Dear Dan, I can remember being in college and walking into a small
record shop hoping to buy some new music. In the background was some
wonderful music that grabbed my attention. The owner said I was
listening to "To The Morning" by Dan Fogelberg....I was hooked
immediately! My roommates and I almost wore the album out due to hours
of listening. My favorite to this day is "Wysteria". It touches me deep
inside but not sure why. Thank you for giving the world an everlasting
collection of wonderful music.
When I married my husband, almost 27 years ago, "Longer" was performed at
our wedding. A few months later, my mother, who has since passed away, bought
us a beautiful framed picture of the lyrics. It has hung in our bedroom ever
since. The song still brings tears and goosebumps whenever I hear it. So thank
you for this precious gift, Dan, and please know that you will always hold a
special place in my heart.
Love and peace ~
Jill Aul
Hi Dan, I was so upset to see this posted on your site. I've loved your music for such a long time and wish you all the best in your courageous efforts to fight this hideous illness. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. ~
Francis Walsh
I am sorting through a cupboard and have come across a music book of your
greatest hits. Usually I hear your songs in my head. My favorite is "Run for
the Roses" but now I remember playing them. I haven't played in years.
Still, I cherish this book and will keep it forever. Dan, you touched my
life in such a lovely way. I hope you have had some happiness and
contentment during the last couple of years. My best wishes to you and your
family. ~ Judy in Barrie, Ontario (I saw you in Rama)
Hey Dan,
I've always been a huge fan - your songs were always deeper than most. Thanks for the great body of work through the years, and I will pray for Jesus to heal you completely.
Blessings ~
Tim Twitty
Dan and Jean, You kept me company on a long car trip and I was struck by your faith and
connection with God and your loved ones. I pray for you and your family
often and wish you every blessing. ~
Eileen
I have been a fan of the words and music you have shared since 1974. They have carried me through the highs and lows of life and everything in between. Thank you for all of that. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers for strength and the hope of a full recovery. Keep looking to the morning! ~ James Shilling
Hi Dan, Hope you are in good health and spirits. I realized why I have
liked
your music and not really grown out of it. Because there is an intimate
connection to nature in many of your lyrics and sound. Back in my college
days, my music composition teacher lightly scoffed one day at my adoration
for Copeland's "Appalachian Spring", since it was not incorporating as much
atonality...but it has always been a favorite (Bernstein version) since it
is organic and natural like your work. OK, And now the lecture :-) If you
are not meditating daily, start. Meditation will improve your health from
the inside-out...not to mention likely give your fans more music from your
muse.
Cheers ~

Dan~
Grew up in Chicago area and was fortunate to see you many times at the Auditorium Theatre...what a great place...the concert I remember most was in the 70's and Fools Gold was your opener and later joined you for some awesome jammin. From then on I have been a DF follower of your music.....many date nights at my bach. pad listening to Captured Angel..Your lyrics are inspiring and can tell from the heart and in some instances I can relate. I came from a very close family and with 4 brothers that remain very close your "Leader of the Band" hit home to all of us. Have had many friends that have gone through your dilemma and came through shining. I'm a big time firm believer of the yearly PSA and all that goes with it. I am 50 now and have two young men to raise with my wife Kelly, Jack & Sam are 7 & 9 and I plan on being around to see them perform in many years to come. They both play piano and are getting pretty good. I truly hope that in the future you will return to the stage and I will be lucky enough to attend to once again enjoy your always entertaining show. We live in the UP (Michigan) now and is a great place to raise kids.
Stay healthy sir and from my family to yours...live & enjoy life my man!
Best Regards ~
Terry Burgess
Dear Dan,
I check your site from time to time to see if we will be able to see and
hear you again. I understand not yet so I want to thank you for all your
lovely music. You got me through High School. How many times do we stand at
the "fork in the road"? "Nether Lands" always comes to me at those times.
I wish you well and I look forward to the time when we will hear you again. ~
Sandy
Dan- As with so many of your fans, the highlights of my own life's journey as
young adult in the 70's are inextricably tied to your music. Ah, what sweet,
delicious days of innocence made richer by your lyrical celebrations.... the
intimate confidences, the unique vulnerabilities you shared with all of us. We feel like you have been our closest friend, our blood brother-even though we might never have had the pleasure of a personal introduction. You've celebrated our joys and known our pain, and we yours. Gratitude is something felt even more deeply, it seems, with age. I feel an ever increasing gratitude to you and to the spirits that be for allowing us the joy of your spirit and your talents. You have been and continue to be a gift and a blessing to us.
(Please let us know how you are and what we can do for you.) We send love and light to you for your healing and happiness. ~ Kate
Dan,
I am 47 years old and when I think of you and your gifts of music I feel as
if I am back in high school. Simply, thank you. I am sending you and yours
love and light. ~
Blair
Hi Dan, my name is John Lattanzi from Northeast Ohio. I'm not going to go
into detail about how much your music has meant to my wife Sharon and I over the
years -- we'll let that go unsaid. 3 years ago my best friend Norm was
diagnosed with colon cancer. Shortly afterward they removed a large tumor from
his liver. Not long after this I learned about your situation which also hit
us very personal and close to home. Norm passed away three weeks ago making
this a very difficult time in my life. I remained strong through this entire
time - delivering words of his wonderful life at his services, without shedding
one tear. I stayed strong for his family and our friends while everyone
around me grieved openly. Norm loved life, and he loved to make people laugh. I
thought he would not want us to mourn for him during his services - that we
should be upbeat and share the good times of our times with this wonderful
person. But yesterday, it really hit me -- like nothing else I have ever felt, I
wept openly. I guess I needed that to have closure. Now one day later, and
still a little bit misty, I search your website for some kind of sign that you
are doing well and carrying the torch for all of us that have a friend like
Norm. Please Dan, tell me you're doing well -- God knows I need something to
help me get through this time.
Your friend ~
John
Dear Dan, My name is Mike, a resident of Sydney Australia. I would just like to let you know that my prayers are with you and I will pray for healing. I have loved your music for many years and will go on doing so.
Thank you for your wonderful and loving contribution to the music industry over many years and the joy and blessings you have brought to thousands all over the planet.
Thank you also for the medical advice as well. Fight on brother and God will be with you every step of the way.
Thoughts and prayers are with you. ~
Mike.
Dan, I've
been listening to your music and songwriting since the late 70s. As a
musician, I eventually worked with a bass player from Pekin IL who had
studied band
under your dad. He really took a lot out of that, and I've enjoyed hearing
his stories and memories of those times. I'm
wishing you a full and speedy recovery. Also know that your message about
this illness is getting heard and appreciated. Stay strong. ~ Kyle Ashley
Oh, that I would have half the gift you have of putting just the
right words together. I would use them all to let you know how much
you have meant to me over the years. Please know that I join millions
of your fans worldwide in wishing you comfort and peace in a complete
recovery. ~
Marti Daily, Indianapolis.
Dear Dan,
I pray for you. My wife and I have been fans since our childhood, and to hear about this brought me to tears. My wife's father has been a fan of yours since high school. He even performed "Nether Lands" during college in front of 5000 people and I know you were a great inspiration for him. He follows in your steps to this day. As do I. All I can say is please don't give up. You can beat this thing! So let us all know what's up. You have so many people who love you for inspiring them. I am one of those. I listen to you all the time. I hope to meet you someday...so come back to Traverse City MI and perform so my wife, her father and I can meet you! And give you a huge hug for winning! Best wishes and I will pray everyday for you.
Your song, "Leader of the Band" is one of my favorite songs of all time. During a time when my father and I were in disagreement, it made me realize how important he is! I thank you for that very much! Anyways God be with you!
Sincerely ~
Benjamin Borton
My friend, Dan -Hey buddy, I want you to know how MUCH of a gift you have given me through
all of these years. I want to be encouraging to you with my prayers that is a "
Hail Mary " as one year ago ( April 4th , 2006 ) I had an encounter with
death and recovered. I was induced into a coma due to respiratory failure from an
accident at work. A priest was called for me. But having a strong will to
live and saying prayers (Hail Marys) I came back from the dead. EVERYONE could
not believe I was alive. Please Dan, keep your faith , I kept mine and it
worked. God Bless you, man. We need you to conquer this. Dan, please keep your faith .... when God wants us, it will be wonderful.God Speed ~ Ron
Dan,
My prayers are with you and your family. My brother was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and had his prostate removed. Luckily, the cancer had not spread and he is fine. I have loved your music since Home Free came out. I've spent many many hours of my life listening to your beautiful music. Your music has made such an impact on my life over the years. I hope that one day you can return to the recording studio and make more albums. They mean so much to your fans. Please take care of yourself, and know that there are many people praying for you. We truly love you Dan.
Sincerely ~
Carolyn Powell,
Corinth, Texas
Dear Dan & Jean, First let me start off by saying that you will be in my prayers every day from now on. It is the least I could possibly do in return for all the years of pleasure you have given us all with your music, If I may I would like to say how absolutely honest and pure your music has been. I just recently re-purchased "Home Free" again. It is just as good today as it was when I first heard it! I am 53 and know two people personally who have prostate cancer. One of them is advanced. Thank you for being strong enough to try to help others from letting this disease get a hold of them even while you are suffering thru it yourself. Sincerely ~Dan Hartnett, Redlands, Ca.
Dan, my prayers are with you and those closest to you. Since the 70s your
music has inspired me, given me fortitude for the journey, and informed my
writing. You are a true poet and artist, and I wish you God's very best. ~
Deb Kinnard, author
Dear Dan,
My husband and I have enjoyed your outstanding musical talent for more
than 2 decades. We have attended many of your wonderful concerts with
great satisfaction. Your music to us is most refreshing and so
enjoyable. Our son attended one of your concerts as a small boy; it was
his first, and he will always remember it with great pleasure and
inspiration. Of course, we have numerous "albums" and listen to them
over and over. My husband has several of your songbooks and loves to
pick the guitar to your music.
We just learned last week of your diagnosis. We wish you the very best
in your endeavor to fight this major bump in the road. My husband is 54
years old and has never had these tests, but since learning of your
condition, he is planning to get these in the very near future.
God bless and God speed.
Most sincerely ~
Donah and Gary Clower,
Vienna, Ohio
My dearest Dan,
I am writing so tell you that your music has touched my life in a profound
manner. Songs like "Nexus" "Windows and Walls" and "Tucson, Arizona"
are the soundtrack of my life. I was introduced to your music by my
brother at the early age of 10, which was about the time I discovered The
Eagles. His words to me were, "If you like the style of the Eagles you
will love Fogelberg." He knew me very well so the fact that he was right
was not a surprise. I lost my beloved brother in July of 2003 and to this
day your music helps hold him close to my heart. When my grief was at its
worse I wrapped your albums around me like an old quilt to keep me warm in
the night.
Know that you and Jean are in my prayers.
Dear Dan, my boyfriend told me that you are his favorite artist and I
was looking for one of your CD's to buy him for his birthday and thought
I would search for your website. When I found it, I read about your
current battles and want you to know that I pray for your health to be
restored and comfort for you and your family. I also forwarded your
home page to my boyfriend because he will be 49 on his birthday on the
29th of March and he really needs to read that.Thank you so much for
all of your music and for helping so many people by letting them know of
your battle. God Bless you and don't you worry about a thing. God
has you in His hands. :) ~ Dawn Murphy
Dearest Dan,
I awoke from a sound sleep thinking of you this am. It was 0300 the hour of DIVINE MERCY (It is a Catholic thing). Needless to say I was and am praying for you very much. I ask for your complete and total healing and quite frankly I am expecting this!
I send you at this very moment every ounce of energy health and healing that I have..I pray for you and your loved ones and send you and pray for you to have all the best that our GOOD and GRACIOUS GOD can give you!!!
Please be open to healing and make time for miracles to happen!!!!! Please know that even though I can't post here often, I think of you and pray for you very often.
Much Love and Healing to you my dear man.
Love and Peace ~
Laura
Dear Dan,
Just a quick note to let you know that I am thinking of you. Your music and
lyrics have inspired me ever since college over 20 years ago, and I thank
you so much for that. As a result, the themes in your music have helped
guide me through my life's paths. May they also guide and comfort you even
more.
With thanks and a prayer for you ~
Leslie Lange Kennedy
Dearest Dan and Jean;
I thought of your music today and visited your website to see how you
were. While I listened to 'Hearts Hotel' I read of your illness. I
have faith that the beauty of your spirit and the love of all those you
have touched so deeply with your gift will help through this difficult
time.
My prayers are with you. ~
Wayne B. McPeek Jr.
Dan,
I'm sitting in my backroom listening to the Nether Lands album. It's my
favorite. I just wanted to say thank you for all your wonderful music. I
was stationed in Japan when I got introduced to your stuff on the Far East
Radio Network. I've been a fan ever since. A day doesn't pass without me
playing a little of your music. I wish you well and my prayers go out to
you everyday. It the least I can do to repay what you've given me. ~ Larry Bohannon
Dan,
Thank you for music and lyrics that endure. From college memories of Nether Lands to today, your music and spirit have touched me and my family. My teenagers now listen to your music - and I'm grateful for that.
We wish you peace and a full and complete recovery. May the knowledge that you've touched many lives give you comfort. Thank you for providing a positive influence through the years. ~
Gerald King
Dear Dan,
One of my favorite songs is "Believe In Me."
The music, the lyrics---perfect. Who inspired that song?
I hope you are still creating beautiful music during your treatment.
May God bless you with restored health. ~
Jan in Dallas
Dear Dan, I have two friends who are survivors of prostate cancer, so your courage touches me in a very personal way. My prayers are with you and your family, and I hold you in my highest vibrations. I fell in love to your music, and listened to it every night as we fell asleep together. Many of my very best memories include your beautiful voice. I saw you perform at Indian University in 1977 with the love of my life, and the experience is imprinted on my soul forever. Love, light, and peace ~ Kris
Dan -
The darkest light can be broken by the brightest dawn.
Your music and lyrics have been an inspiration to me and I am sure to generations. I am sending the most positive thoughts I can.
Be well - your mind can take on journeys your physical presence cannot. You have a gift - the gift of a mind.
Your life has been dedicated to the music. I for one thank you for that and I look forward too your next album. You move people, change their lives and give them hope. Give yourself hope.
My thoughts are with you ~
Davy
Dear Dan -
Your music has always shown me that there is a great love out there in everyone, that there is more wonder in nature than any man could replicate, that there is no road that does not have a resting place somewhere on its length and that there is always, always a place for hope. Never having had the pleasure of seeing you live yet having cherished your music for over thirty-five years, I trust you will draw strength from the wonderful music you have produced, just as that same music has strengthened so many. Whatever happens to any of us - your music will go EVER ON! ~
David Shipley,
Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom
Dan,
I wonder if you are writing more music these days.
I hope so. It is God's gift to you. ~
Traci Suzanne
Good Morning, I'm in shock, I feel like I've been told an old friend is ill. There is no way to describe the impact your gentle soul reflected so perfectly in your music has had on me over the years- from 1973 in fact. You will be in my prayers until you make a speedy recovery. Have faith my friend. A relocated Australian in Indianapolis. Warmest Regards, Best Wishes and our Prayers ~ Peter Ryan, Indianapolis.
Dan, all I can say is that you remain positive.
Thank you from the depths of my heart for the many, many beautiful lyrics
you have sung over the many years.
All the very best for the future.
Regards ~
Jan Hutchison,
Auckland New Zealand
Dear Dan,
I hope & pray that your healing process is going as you wish. I have been a
fan of yours since the 70's. Your music has been a part of my life since the
first time I heard you on the radio. Since then I've come to know & love
every song. I actually named my son Daniel, that may seem a bit fanatical,
but my relatives had awful names. So please stay healthy. My prayers are
with you & yours. I'm not religious but my best friend was diagnosed with
Ovarian cancer and through reiki healers and prayer chains her cancer scare
turned into cysts. I will ask many to pray. I love who you are for the
world. ~ Connie Bruno, Florida
I too have to stay vigilant with checking my prostate as I now am that age and my
86 year old father has had PC for years.
I also sing and play and have put milk on the table for 30 years. I have sung with you almost every day since Home Free.
On stage, in the car, splitting wood, to my children, around the campfire with friends you have been in my mind and my heart. I consider you one of my closest friends, that I have not met, as of yet. Love you Dan. ~ TF
Dan, I thought of writing about how your music has been the theme
songs for parts of my life. Of how, from my last year of high school in
Puerto Rico (where my family moved when I had a few months left of high
school to complete) through my Navy years an on to my parenting/adult
years. Yet, that would be me about me. And this is about you. You and your wife are in our prayers. You have made a
difference. Stay strong and know if you ever come to Fenton
Michigan, I will bring you down to the Fire station and you can ride a
truck with us. Respectfully ~ Michael "Tom" Howley
I have only just become an admirer of your extraordinary talent. My husband
(a long time fan) and I pray with you, your family and many others, through
this very difficult time. May you be blessed with a full recovery and many
more years ahead. ~
Suzanne Dickie (Australia)
Dan - It has
been a while since we have heard anything from you and I was used to seeing you
in concert every few years or so (have seen you over 20 times live
throughout the US). I just bought an MP3
player..Phillips/ 1GB...holds 450 songs or so. Over 150 songs
which I have downloaded in the first week or so are yours. By the time I am
finished with your music, I may not have any room for Joe Walsh, The Eagles,
CSN and Y, Jackson Brown, Pavarotti, Ella, Sinatra, or Martin !!! Best wishes
to you. ~ Greg Palumbo
Dan, Having spent childhood summers sailing on the Eggemoggin Reach, I
get a tear in my eye every time I hear "The Reach." Thanks for
triggering those happy memories.
Thanks too for the great times that I had at two of your concerts, one
in New Orleans in 1984 (I think) and one in Madison, WI a few years ago.
You were under the weather at the New Orleans show, but you toughed it
out; for which we were all very grateful!
I hope your treatment is going well and you can keep smiling despite the
circumstances. There are legions of us out here pulling for you. ~
Dave in Oshkosh
Dan, You are in my thoughts and prayers. Hope you are doing much better and
I hope you have been given the inspiration to write a few more tunes for us.
Love to you and Jean. God bless ~ kay, Peoria, AZ
Dan, Words alone cannot describe what you and your music has given me. During my high school years, when I first met my loving wife, Souvenirs was on my turntable 24/7 as it was our favorite! I have followed your career ever since and have loved every song you have recorded. In the mid 90's I lost everything due to drug use. When I decided to become clean and sober, your song "The Long Way" brought me back. I since have married my high school sweetheart and have my life back with nearly 8 years of sobriety. Everytime I hear "The Long Way", a tear comes to my eyes and takes me back to a time when things were the best for me. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Jean. God bless you. ~ Mark Skipworth
