Many prayers and thoughts for Dan's wife and family. He was a very talented
musician and songwriter. His songs voiced the thoughts and dreams of many of
us. I thank God that he was given to us all for the time he was here. Heaven
has another great songwriter now. ~

My prayers go out to Dan and his family. He was an inspiration to many. His music will always live on. ~ Carole, NJ
I've just learned of Dan's passing earlier today. The world has lost a truly wonderful, gifted soul, whose music is so much of who we are today. His spirit will live on. God bless you Dan. Continue to watch over us. ~ Patricia
Rest In Peace Dan. God bless. ~

God be with Dan's family. His musical legacy will live longer than there have been fishes in the ocean. What a gift to music he will always be. God Bless. ~ Roger Lynn, fan since the early 80's.
I'm saddened by the news. My heart goes out to Dan's family and friends. A musician myself, I was greatly influenced by his music when I was starting out, and I got a lot of love and enjoyment from performing many of his songs. Such a great writer, and I'll bet he was just as good a friend. Hats off to you Dan, and your music will live on. Respect ~ Don Coyer
God bless you!
Jean...we are so saddened to hear about Dan this morning. He made some very beautiful contributions to this world through his music and his life. Our hearts and prayers are with you Jean, God Bless You! ~

Just wanted to express my sadness at hearing about Dan's passing. I still listen
to, and cherish, his music. He was a person who brought so much beautiful music
into the world and I'm personally confident that right now, he's "moving toward the light" ~ Karen, Seattle, WA
With deep regrets we send our prayers and sympathy to Jean and other family members.
Dan's song "Longer" was played as "our" song at our wedding in August of 1980. We have played it many times over the years, especially when we have gone through rough times. On this Sunday afternoon, after hearing of Dan's passing my wife once again danced to "Longer."
Dan and his music will be forever a part of our life. Having lost a younger brother to pancreatic cancer, I too see the importance of regular medical check-up to test for these diseases.
We send our love and prayers ~

Dear Jean,
My sincere condolences on Dan's passing. His music has reverberated
throughout my life. Beginning in college when I dated a girl and she
turned me on to Dan's music. We used to listen to his music together.
Although she and I never married, we seem to have this bond with his music.
I have since married and have shared Dan's songs, especially "Same Old Lang
Syne," "Heart Hotels," and "Longer" with my three children, singing these
songs to them when I put them to bed every night. It was/is a time I
cherish. They even got to know the songs so well, they would correct me
when I mixed up words. To this day (they are 16,12, 9) they look forward
to me singing Dan's songs.
Words cannot express your sorrow at this time, but I would like to share a
little Prayer used on the Mass Card at my Father's passing:
God saw that you were tired, and the cure was not to be.
So He gently put His arms around you and said "walk with me." With heartfelt sadness we watched you fade away.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest,
God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
God needed an Angel with Dan's talents up in Heaven.
God Bless ~

I just heard of Dan's passing and wanted to let his family know how much I loved his music. When I was in college in the 70's I listened to him almost everyday. I have so many wonderful memories of sitting in my college apartment on the floor listening to Dan's music. I am so very sorry and wish his family and friends God's grace. ~

Hello.
I just read in the news about Dan's passing.
Here is a scripture that has helped me with some hope:
(Revelation 21:3-4) . . .With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: "Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his peoples. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."
According to Bible prophecy, this will soon be a reality..... sure be nice to live in a world like what is promised here.
Kind regards ~ Mike Ulrich
I was sorry to hear about the death of Dan this morning. I loved the music
that he sang and the words of his songs. One of my favorites was "Leader
of the Band" particularly because I am from Peoria, Illinois and I believe
Dan's dad was a bandleader in that area at one time. You and your family
will be in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this rough time. ~
Valerie
God rest you home Dan Fogelberg.
Thank you for all you were and
for all you gave. Your sister in
earth ~ KRD
Thank you for the music............
Dear Family,
I was so saddened to hear about the passing of Dan. He was such a wonderful
person and had so much talent. My twin sister and I saw him twice at Red
Rocks. That is a memory that we will never forget. We could listen to him all
night long. We took a recent road trip and we listened to all his cds. May God
bless Dan and his lovely wife. He brought so much joy to so many people with
his music. He has helped so many men with his message about prostate cancer. I am a nurse and many men have told me that his message informed them to
seek medical help with determining if they had prostate cancer. So his life has
helped so many people, and enriching our lives with his beautiful music. His
family is in our prayers.
Sincerely ~
Susanne DeGennaro,
Littleton, Colorado
I am so sorrowful. Your music touched me for so many years. Peace and love.
What a beautiful voice. Now to be shared with angels... listen carefully.
Words cannot express the depth of my sorrow at the word of Dan's untimely death. He was my all-time favorite singer, and I passed along that love to all of my children. My oldest son, who is 37, burst into tears when I told him yesterday. He had "Longer" on his car CD player. He truly was a Living Legend, and Jean has my heartfelt sympathy. I was widowed 3-1/2 years ago. It eventually gets better, but it never goes away. With great admiration for the music of a real original and a true poet ~ Jennifer Vizzo
I just wish to send my love and deepest condolences. Dan was just a part of who I was; he was just six years older than I and his music was just part of my life. It was a given, and will forever be a cherished gift to me. I share this gift with my children and now my grandchildren. One has only to hear his music, to feel it, to know that he is safely in that most precious place, and we will see him again. Thank you for sharing your Dan with the world! God bless you and keep you! ~

The Prostate Cancer Foundation extends its deep sympathy to the Fogelberg family on the tragic loss of their loved one, and the loss of an American treasure. It is our mission to end death and suffering from this devastating disease - we will not accept defeat.
My heart is silenced due to the death of Dan Fogelberg, for the Leader of the Band has died.
Just wanted to send my condolences. ~

Dan's music has given me such comfort and happiness throughout the years. I am so thankful that I got to see him in concert once in Lexington, KY several years ago. The band took a break - he sat down at the piano and asked what we would like to hear. I was screaming "The Last Nail" (my personal favorite) as loud as I could. He said he was going to play a song he didn't normally play in concert and began playing "The Last Nail". I will always cherish that moment. He could describe feelings with his music I've never heard from anyone else. He will always be my favorite artist of all time. I'm just heartbroken he is no longer with us and for what he had to endure. Jean, my thoughts are with you. I'm so sorry... ~
Edie
May the blessed winds carry the Minstrel home. May his poetry and song live in our hearts.
My deepest condolences on Dan's passing.
Dan's music and words helped guide my life like no prophet ever did. Thank you, Dan. ~ Cindy
What a great loss. My husband and I were just talking about the time went to see him in concert at Middle Tenn. St. University. It was so oversold, we had to sit on the steps. In the 1970's he was my favorite solo artist and I had all his albums. Went to see him without his band in Nashville and it was wonderful. He will be greatly missed. Please pass to my condolences to his wife. ~

Dan Fogelberg was one of my all time favorites. The lyrics were the
best of the best. I discovered him in Austin, Texas while in graduate
school. A strong memory I have at that time, is going on a first date
with someone in the 80's. After getting in his car, his cassette of
Dan Fogelberg came on, and I said, "Oh, I love Dan Fogelberg!" He
looked at me and said "I am already in love with you!! I have waited
to date someone who likes Dan as much as me!" Everyone who has ever
known me, listens to Dan sometime in my car or home. What a sad loss
for music. I have the old vinyls of Dan, but will update to CDs today. I hope an anthology comes out soon. So sad. RIP.
~ Allison
I am now and have always been a fan of Dan. I saw him in El Paso TX. His music has been the theme of my life, since I was 15 years old in high school. I cannot believe he is no longer with us. My deepest condolences to the families and friends. He will be missed. ~ Michael
Dan,Wealthy the Spirit that knows its own flight, stealthy the hunter who slays his own fright, and blessed the traveler who journeys the length of the light. You have been such an inspiration to me and so many others. I will keep your music alive and continue to share your message of love. MAY PEACE BE WITH YOU...~ Ron
Christmas was never Christmas until I heard Dan's beautiful song 'Same Old Lang Syne' on the Radio. Now it will never be the same again. He will be missed by all who loved his music and by his family. Here is an Irish Prayer to help him on his way. 'May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face.May the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again. May the Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.' ~
Josephine and all your Irish Fans.
I just heard the news today, and it just blew me away. Dan you will so be
missed. Your music was such an awesome talent that God gave you. I will miss
you. Yes, your music will live forever in my heart. May Our Lord, Jesus Christ
hold you tight now, as you're now singing with Him and His heavenly host of
Angels. Love and May you rest now in Jesus' arms ~ Diane
Dan;
Your music has been part of my life ever since I first heard you at the Red Herring in
Champaign. I was in the audience at the Red Lion when you took the stage during the REO
Speedwagon and impressed the powers that be that put you on your recording journey. I was
in Heidelberg, Germany when I saw your first album and heard you live in Frankfurt later
that year. Your songs have been on my ipod throughout my life journey filling me with
great remembrances of times gone by.
My thoughts and prayers are with you. ~
Peter D. Visel
I will carry Dan's beautiful music in my heart and mind. It was the background and sometimes inspiration for so many important and poignant moments of my life. My love and prayers to family and his dear friends. ~

Dear Jean and Dan's Family,
Dan was so woven into the fabric of my formative years and beyond, that news
of his passing silenced me. His music has soothed my soul for decades when I
needed comfort and uplifting. I attended many of his concerts, as did
multitudes of my friends and family. He was a remarkable talent, both stratospheric
in his vocal abilities, and hauntingly talented as a lyricist.
As a writer, though, he has achieved a sense of immortality, and through
time, new generations of Dan Fogelberg fans will quietly hum to themselves his
calming melodies, just as he did as he first created them.
Blessings ~
John Marc Anderson
Dan,
Thanks for all of the wonderful music you created and I will pray for you.
God Bless You! ~

I cannot fully express my sadness. Dan's music played such a poignant part of my formative years growing up in the 70's and 80's. Please accept my sincerest sympathies. God Bless and Keep you ~ Demetria Dixon
What a shock! I sit here at my computer thinking of how many times I have listened and sung along to Dan's wonderful music. I too am 56 years old and have learned to value each and every day that I have with my friends and family.
I would like to thank you Dan for allowing each and every one of us the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful message of your music - which has become part of my history and the fabric of the "world". You will live on and on through your music which has become a part of everyone who ever had the opportunity to listen to it. God bless you and yours.... ~

I was listening to Dan's Christmas album when I heard the sad news. I've enjoyed Dan and his music over the decades and will sorely miss the man and his music. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jean and his family and close friends. ~ LFS
Dear Jean, My thoughts are with you as you mourn the passing of your husband. Dan's music touched so many hearts and minds - including mine - in his short time on Earth. It is a comfort to me that we will always have his music to cherish. I wish you peace of heart and peace of mind. ~ Jen
Dan,
I know that you are up above watching us all now. Seems fitting that such a wonderful man with such an outstanding talent as yours would leave during the Christmas season. I pray that your family finds the joy in this great season and that the pain of your leaving becomes more understandable as time goes on.
God Bless you sir, your music will live on forever...
I met Dan once in the 80’s. I was helping produce an environmental
documentary on the Rockies entitled “Downwind/Downstream” and we had asked
to use Dan’s song, “Sutter’s Mill” on the soundtrack. Dan could not have
been more gracious and generous. In addition to letting us use the song for
free, he volunteered to play a concert at the world premiere in Aspen. We
send our very best wishes to his family and friends, Dan will be greatly
missed. ~ Nick Lerek
What a tremendous loss to the musical community and to all of us who so
loved his music. I have listened to his music since his very first album
and stayed with him up to this day. From the inspiring 'Part of the Plan'
to the haunting music of 'Nether Lands' to the ache of lost love in 'Exiles'
and the wonderful pairings with Tim Weisberg on 'Twins Sons of Different
Mothers' and 'No Resemblance Whatsoever'. There was never a moment in my
life that I couldn't find at least one song of Dan's that could express what
I was feeling so much better than I ever could. Whether singing is own
music or interpreting the songs of others he always touched a deep chord. I
loved his concerts and was fortunate to see him perform with a full band,
with an orchestra and even just him and his guitar. He never disappointed.
To Jean and all of Dan's family, the thoughts, prayers and love of millions
of people go out to you.
Once in a vision I came on some woods and stood at a fork in the road
My choices were clear yet I froze with the fear of not knowing which way
to go
Oh, one road was simple acceptance of life , The other road offered sweet
peace
When I made my decision, My vision became my release
His music will live on forever. ~

The world is a poorer place for the loss of Dan. Our prayers are with
his family.
You were a good man. Your music will live on forever. Thank you and may you
rest in peace.
I have over 30 years of memories tied to the music of Dan Fogelberg, and he will be greatly missed. I did not know he was ill...I was talking to my son the other day about his music while I was looking online for a copy of his Christmas album...which I cannot locate anywhere. God bless Dan...thank you for the music...only the heart may know.
You are truly a legend...your music and songs will live on forever.
My cousin and I used to sing your songs around a campfire at Lake
George in NY. You truly are a beautiful person...your wife was one
lucky lady. You will be dearly missed.
We have lost a great man - a legend who will live on in our hearts and
through his music. I cannot begin to speak of the sadness brought to the
world this day, but also cannot begin to tell of the joy in Heaven at his
arrival.
Rest in peace, dearest Dan. Your family will sustain through our prayers
and God's grace.
Much love and warmth ~
Roxanne Freeman
We'll miss you, Dan. I bet the music's a little better
in heaven tonight.

When I logged on tonight, I found out that Dan was gone. I am embarrassed to say I didn't know about his battle with prostate cancer. Dan Fogelberg's voice, lyrics and music have been such a part of my life for so many years. I feel very sad that you're gone - and that I didn't know about your illness. I love your music and your spirit, Dan. ~

I cannot understand how this terrible disease continues to plague us and takes
too many people too early.
I will schedule my husband's appt tomorrow, and drag him in....in your honor.
Thank you for your music, from an entire generation of fans....Heaven gains a bounty today. ~

It is with great sadness I am posting this today, as I have just learned
of
Dan's succumbing to the disease of which he has battled for the last several years. I am fortunate to have seen him perform live several times. His
music will continue to remain deeply embedded in my soul, as I have never
had an artist's craft touch me the way his did. My condolences to his
wife, Jean..he will forever remain in our hearts. ~

My deepest sympathy goes out to the family of Dan F. I just read the news on the internet and then went to the web site. I had seen Dan in the 90's when he came to play a Red Rocks in Denver Colorado. I have loved his music for years and what is so very interesting is about a week ago I got out one of his CDs with all his great songs on it! I listened to it while driving into my job in Golden CO. I was thinking at the time wonder if Dan will come back CO someday and play again. This is such a shock since I was not aware that Dan had been fighting prostate cancer. I have been trying to get my fiancée who is 46 to go get this test done and get things checked. It is so very important that men do this exam!
Dan will always hold a place in my heart with his incredible music over the years. May his music live on for many years to come!
May God Bless your family ~
Rebecca Hallin,
Morrison Colorado
My thoughts and prayers go out to Dan's family in this time of sadness. His music was a source of happiness to me as I was approaching adulthood. I listened always with such admiration and respect for a man who took his inspiration from life. He will be sadly missed.
Jean:
I check this site daily to here of Dan's condition. When I read today of
his passing I was heart struck. I'm a grown man but I cried like a baby.
I feel a part of me has died - my innocence of youth - which I felt when
I listened to Dan's music. I feel old, and devastated, as if one of my
life long friends has died. May Dan be in Peace with the Great Spirit
and I thank him for all the music and inspiration he has given to all of
us. I wish you the best in this time of grief and I am grateful he found
you and enjoyed your love and had you there by his side when he passed. ~
Rich, Pittsburgh, PA
As we grieve his loss, may we celebrate his life and our love of his
music.
My heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends.
God is with you. We loved your music. Thank you. Our thoughts and prayers
to your family. Thanks for sharing him with us. ~ Gene, Salt Lake City
I loved the LP Nether Lands, especially the title track.
The voice and his guitar playing will be missed by millions.
Add Dan to the helluva band in Rock & Roll Heaven!
BE BIG! ~
Jay Sorensen
You will be missed but always remembered. Thank you! God bless you....
Dan, I saw you in concert in the late 1970's in Tempe Arizona and it was one of
the most amazing concerts I have ever been to. I thank you for your music and
inspiration. Rest in Peace, you will never be forgotten.
An angel's voice returns to heaven.
To Dan's family... I just wanted to say, like all the others here, how much his music has meant to me in my life. No one wrote (or will write) more beautiful lyrics and music than Dan Fogelberg. I will always cherish my one opportunity to hear him in concert in Columbus, OH years ago--it truly was the best one I have ever attended. From his very first album to his last, his beautiful songs touched a place in people's hearts and souls that precious few artists ever come close to. What a great loss not only for his family and friends who knew him, but also all his fans who were touched by his special talents and the man that he was. I wish I could have told him that personally.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers. God bless you. ~ Terri
I became a big fan after the release of The Innocent Age in 1981. The depth and power of that album helped me to find the deeper side of myself. Even though I never saw Dan in concert I have remained a fan ever since that time and will always be inspired by his work which, to me, represents the man himself. All your fans will miss you Dan but the legacy you have left behind will continue to inspire us for the rest of our lives. A sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU for all you given to me. ~ BK Schafer, Texarkana, Arkansas
