Countless hours of inspiration has been and forever will be filling my
soul from Dan's spirit of song and craft. From him I have come to love
life. He gives me passion to repay this angelic gift onto the children I
teach.
The sunset has never been more peaceful." With love ~ Gary Heide
Dan's music also touched me. Always wishing I had been blessed with similar talent to write, play and sing, I still play and sing "Longer" and "Dancing Shoes" for my wife.
To his wife and family, my condolences for your loss. Praying that he's in a better place and that we'll get to do a duet someday. ~

May God Bless You and carry you with Him. Your music and lyrics have touched my life forever, especially the song "Same Old Lang Syne". Cheers ~

To DF Wishes, family and Fogelberg community, There are mountains of memories in Dan's music
--so much of it. He, a lost love to the music artisan

my life. I miss him already. ~

I just wanted to say, like so many others, how much his music touched me and influenced me. I am a musician myself & have a deep appreciation for his tremendous gifts. I couldn't let the opportunity pass to express the enormous respect I will always have for his work & the true sense of loss I feel with his passing. I had the good fortune to see him in concert several times and will always feel lucky to say I sang on his "Live" cd he recorded at the Fox Theatre here in St. Louis, as part of the crowd, of course! My sister and I are deeply saddened that he is gone, but will always cherish his music and the memories we will always have of how it was woven into our lives. We will miss him so much.
What can be said that has not before by 10,000 fans. Everyone knew and loved Dan
Fogelberg's songs which dominated radio stations throughout the 70' and 80's. His music
made us all look forward to travel whether it be to work, at work or home. Dan Fogelberg
was a musician's musician on so many levels, truly an artistic being.
He touched so many and will be missed all over the world. "A gentle man of music" whose
life was tragically cut short, has left many trying to reconcile his passing. He
deserved better and will be sorely missed. Jean, we are sorry for your loss.
The world lost a beautiful gift today. The joy, encouragement and peace that came from Dan's songs was something I will treasure for the rest of my life.
Jean, please know my heart and prayers go out to you as you go through this terrible time. Know that God is holding you closely in his arms just as he did me when I lost my husband 6 years ago. Know also that Dan is standing with you now giving you love and strength. I pray as you begin this new journey that you know your not alone.
Dan....Thank you for sharing your spirit with so many of us. I will celebrate your life and all that you gave forever. Until we meet again, find peace in heaven's hands ~

I am truly heart broken. I had so hoped that Dan would beat this disease, but there are
some fights in this life we just aren't meant to win, and I guess this one was Dan's. He
will forever be in my heart, and his music will stay with me throughout the rest of my
life. I know this.... A part of me died today with Dan, but it's a part of me that will
be remembered. My girls, wanted to much to see Dan Fogelberg in concert. They never got
the chance, and my oldest one (10) cried tonight as I told her the news.
However, I know his music will live on in her heart, and in that way so Dan will live on
in all of us who loved and appreciated his music. He sang the stories of our lives, and
death can't take that away. We can know that he is at peace in heaven, and we can know
that one day we will be together with him forever. My deepest sympathies go our to Dan's
wife, Jean, and to his family. May you feel the peace of our heavenly Father, and may He
bring you comfort. Our hearts go out to you.
Praying for you,
And remembering always ~
Darrin Cowger
Your music touched me. Saddened to hear of your passing. I was wondering how you were just a day or so ago. My condolences to your family.
Recently I have become (re)acquainted with Dan's music and even bought one of
his CDs
late Saturday night, mere hours before his departure. The soul touching sounds and
memories are most appreciated and will be for years to come. ~ Pastor Eric "Gunny"

One day we'll all understand.....but not today. Today we just miss our friend and inspiration. Godspeed Dan Fogelberg. ~ Bill Aslaksen - Acton, California.
He was and will be the music of my life since the first concert in Normal, IL., when he
was first starting out until this sad day. Thank you for all the memories and the
stories that have always been there for me.
Rest In Peace
We will all be a bit sadder now that a piece of our hearts has been removed. Without his magnificent voice guiding us, we will be lost.
I have enjoyed Dan's music for over 30 years and I feel like I have lost a long
time friend, who knew my heart. I am very sad to hear of Dan's passing but I will continue to listen to my collections of his music and say prayers of thankfulness for the blessing of his music and I will pray for his wife during this time of great sadness. ~ Teresa Hotta
Dan Fogelberg was a very inspirational part of my musical life. Being a musician all of my life , I remember my early years listening to Dan's music, being knocked out by the harmonies and amazing lyrics and trying to copy every note. I was a big fan and used to cover the tunes of his I could sing, in fact I sang "Longer" at my wedding. Thanks to Dan for all of the wonder and inspiration his music and life brought to mine and many others. ~
DK
Thanks be to God for having shared Dan with us. And Thanks be to Dan for
having shared our own souls with us. God bless and keep yours. ~ B.N.
Character is destiny. Dan Fogelberg's true character lied in each lyric;
his brutal, naked honesty enveloped my soul as well. Songs that have a
certain disposition can elevate you through the roughest of days. He did
that. His gracious, effortless work was a daily experience for me as I
poorly tried to replicate Fogelberg songs on my guitar. Each day I learned
knew Fogelberg twists.
Seeing Dan Fogelberg live was one of the great seminal moments. He played
an all acoustic show that I still discuss at dinner parties. Rare is the
one who influences your life in a positive way. Now, as a man over 50, he
has warned me against a disease with a simple test. Once again, "Lessons
learned are like bridges burned, you only have to cross them but once".
We love you forever, Dan. Rest your soul and look out for us from above. ~
Larry Frazin,
Santa Monica
His songs have made me cry & they have made me reflect on life much more as I grow older. He will truly be missed. He will be remembered as one of the greatest musicians of our time. May he find peace & comfort in his final resting place. My thoughts & prayers go out to his wife Jean.
My sincere condolences go to the family and friends and fans of Dan. I did
not know he was ill and I had such sadness in hearing the news today. His
music was such a big part of my life in the 70's &80's. I often would sing
his songs at karaoke. His lyrics were magical. I always felt he was "one of
us."
Such an incredible talent whose songs will continue to touch the hearts of
millions forever.
A fan of Dan! ~
Debbie
Dear Jean and friends of Dan Fogelberg,
I offer my sincere condolences on the loss of your wonderful husband and best friend! My prayers are with you all during this time of sorrow. I had heard that Dan had been ill, and it is sad that he left us so soon and at a young age. His music has always been a source of comfort and encouragement for me throughout my life. My favorite song was "Leader of the Band." The lyrics were, in a word, "magical" to me.
Thank you, Jean, for sharing Dan with so many of us throughout the world. May the Lord give you strength, comfort and peace through the coming days ahead.
Sincerely ~
Mrs. Diane Milligan,

To the Family of the Late Dan Fogelberg,
Growing up in the late 1970s to Early 1980s, I've always enjoyed listening to
Mr. Fogelberg's music in which some of his music "rocked," but some of his
songs rocked "easy." I liked them both. "The Power of Gold" and "Run for the Roses" were songs along others had great
lyrics. When I was in college, I purchased Dan Fogelberg's "Greatest Hits"
in the early 1990s on cassette. I still play it now & then.
Anyway, since Dan's gone, I just wanted to send my condolences to you in
which you will carry on in Dan Fogelberg's passing.
My late Uncle Al died of Prostate Cancer back in 1995. Since I'm in my
forties now, my doctor says I should have a Prostate check every 2 years. But you
are right, Dan, every man past 40 should have a prostate checkup EVERY YEAR.
Usually people say Prostate cancer takes victims after the age of 60. I hope & pray that they can find this killer because this cancer can go real slow or
real quick. This cancer is sneaky!
Anyway, "The Leader of the Band" is now at the Pearly Gates. Godspeed.
Sincerely ~
Don Ostrem Jr.
So Sorry...I did not know that Dan was ill. I loved his music...saw him in St. Paul, MN back in 1980 (or 81?) at the St. Paul Civic Center. He said he was a great Viking fan...I believed him! I have lost a friend. When I listen closely to different guitar licks or vocals...especially with the Eagles you hear Dan. Oh have we lost a treasure to so many. God Bless...You are not alone.
In loving memory of one of the greatest singers of the 80's. May you rest in
peace. You are now in a loving place that is beautiful. God bless you Dan. Rest in peace. ~ Jennifer
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dan's family at this time. Having lost a father to colon cancer I too stress the importance of having regular check ups. His music will live on forever. God Bless. ~

I wish to send my deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Dan. In a
way, as I am sure you will understand, Dan had millions of friends who
connected with him through his wonderful music. He is still with us in heart and soul
and his legacy will remain for a very long time to come. To his family and
friends, those of us who didn't know Dan personally are feeling the loss of a
great person, one who let us know him through his music. I know that you have
lost someone you knew beyond the music, the personal level that you have
with a loved one. I send you my deepest sympathy and the strength to get through
this hard time in your lives. You were very blessed to have known him and
loved him and have many wonderful memories that do not go away. I was looking
at his Discography and was amazed at not only the volume of music, but also
the quality of his songs. He was a special man, talented and loved by so many.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I hope it helps at least a little that you
know how much he was appreciated by so many on this earth. It takes a very
special person to be able to do that and that was Dan. ~ Kathy, Michigan USA.
I am so sorry to hear of Dan's death. What a gentle, wonderful talent he was. I was in my late teens in the 70's when his music really became well known, and I was a huge fan. His hits, "Same Old Lang Syne" and "Leader of the Band" were so moving, that still, all these years later, I can't hear them without tears coming to my eyes. I hope he knew while he was here, how important his music was (and still is) to so many. Dan became the "Leader of the Band", and his "living legacy" is his music. His father would be proud. ~
J. Brooks,
North Dakota
I heard tonight of Dan's passing. Dan and his music have been and always will be a light to this world. There is no way we could ever repay the treasure he gave us through song. God Bless You, Dan. May your spirit always be with us when we hear your music. Jean & the entire Fogelberg family - Our thoughts and prayers are with each of you at this time. As Dan and his music were a blessing to us, so you were surely a blessing to Dan. God Bless you always. ~ Teresa & family
I am deeply saddened by the news of Dan's passing. His music has been
a
cornerstone of my life, and I regret that his unique voice has been
silenced.
My deepest condolences to his family. ~
Emily Moore
I write this as I listen to his music with tears in my eyes. He was amazing. My first memory of Dan was when I was about 6 years old, in a record store and seeing the album with Tim Weisberg, "Twin Sons Of Different Mothers". And I'm looking at the album thinking, "They don't look like twins." I asked my Mom later, "Can someone be twin sons of a different mother?" My mother said, "No, but, they're probably good friends." I'll miss him. Too soon. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Take care ~ Peg
I did not realize Dan was ill until just now (Monday, December 17, 2007 1:04 AM).
I believe the penetrating peace, compassion and sincerity embedded Dan's songs reflects that Place from which we are born and to which we return at the end of the day. In this respect, Dan has never left. Where could he go? It is a presence that proceeds"The Journey." That engulfs "The Journey." And which survives the Journey's End. Just like his music.
We struggle to grasp, to comprehend the notion of the Eternal Present ... an Eternal Presence, on a material plane where all things seem to come and go, are born and then die ... tracking a Beginning and an End. Compassion is how we come to know that which proceeds the Beginning and survives the End.
Manifested in his music, reflected in his journey and embedded in his psyche, Compassion endures. Dan endures. And his music endures.
I understand that Dan was a devout supporter of the World Wildlife Federation (WWF). My favorite WWF quote goes like this: "The Earth is not an inheritance from our parents, but a loan from our children."
We must now allow the lender to receive the return of this special loan, grateful for the time we had together. In this way, The Lender can re-gift that loan in perpetuity so that ALL may share in that gift.
A Wish of Love and Peace for all those who mourn his loss and celebrate his incarnation.
Sincerely ~
G. Bruce
Lovely memorable music in a much simpler time for many of us. You are missed and may God
bless you and your family. ~ Kat
Dear Jean & Family,
I was very sad to read of Dan's passing today. He fought valiantly against
a dangerous foe. I hope his struggle will inspire all men (and women, too),
to do whatever they need to do to be screened for cancers and other diseases
that can be arrested early enough before they are incurable.
Jean, I hope you know how much Dan's music inspired so many people and how
his life, including his battle with prostate cancer, inspires - and will
continue to. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during
this time.
With sympathy and respect ~
Tom
Dear Jean: I´m sending you my sad condolences for the death of your husband and tremendous musician, Dan. I am from Chile, and I´m spending a sabbatical in Houston. I knew the beautiful music of Dan when I was 13 years old and always I continued listening to it. Be sure that he is in the heart of many, many people who loves his music and wish for Dan the glory of heaven. You have my prayers for Dan and for you.
Sincerely ~
Crispulo Marmolejo G.
To the family,
No one can feel your pain or truly understand the depth of your loss. Please
know that in some measure all of us, those who loved his music and the
messages in his music share a small part of the loss you feel. Dan brought
us love that touches without touching, love that calls upon us to know love
for love's sake and nothing else. Thank you Dan for a ray of light in a world
that has much darkness. Now you are a part of us all and your light will
continue to shine through the the love you created through your music.
Bless you and rest in peace.
I'm very moved by the news of Dan Fogelberg's passing, and by the letter he wrote and the "sermon" on getting tested. While I have none of his records (yet), I greatly admire his talent, his skill, and his sensitivity. "Same Old Lang Syne" is a masterpiece and has brought a tear to my eye on more than one occasion. He is a poet and will be long remembered. And, if his "sermon" convinces just one person to get past that aversion and get tested before their cancer becomes advanced, his legacy will include saving lives as well as enriching them with his music, and his efforts on behalf of the environment. God bless you, man, and blessings to family and friends. ~ J T
The world lost a great poet and friend on December 16, 2007. One who will
undoubtedly be missed by all who knew him. I, myself feel as though I have lost a personal friend. A friend that although I never got to meet personally, I feel I knew intimately because of the way he touched my life with his music. My heartfelt condolences to Jean and Dan's family, extended family and friends. I know Dan is whole now and the world is better off having had him if even for a short time...too short a time. ~ Andy Harrell, President, Parrot Head Club of Tidewater, Inc
Had hoped and prayed for years he'd beat this. So sorry he didn't. Last time I saw him play was at Sokol Blosser Winery on a clear beautiful night underneath the stars in Oregon. It was just him and his guitar. He had joked that his band was supposed to be there but they were all in jail and wouldn't make it. That was just fine. The night was perfect, sitting on a blanket, having a nice glass of wine, listening to him sing and play and enjoying himself. Am treasuring the memory of that night with him forever. Love and prayers to all that knew him. We were and are lucky to of had him in our lives. God Bless Us All ~ Teresa
My deepest sympathy to Dan's family at the loss of such a wonderful, gifted
and talented man. He will be sorely missed. I had the pleasure of seeing Dan
at a concert he gave at the high school in Pagosa after he had
completed a national tour. It was just him and his guitar, no band. It was
lovely and memorable. I will always treasure his gifts of songs that he wrote and
shared with all of us. Again, my deepest sympathy. A very sad day. ~
Michele Gill
Life may be loss in the end, but some are harder to handle than others.....this one is
for me. :'(
I remember driving back and forth to and from Nashville and Memphis while I was in college and most of the time I had Dan Fogelberg on my 8 track and
cassette player. Dan was a huge part of my early adult life and any song of his
I hear brings me lots of memories. God bless Dan he has brought a great deal
of joy to many many people. Rest in Peace. ~ John Hamsher
I'm so sorry to hear of his passing. What a sad day for the world. Thanks for
the music, Dan.
Deepest sympathies ~ Lesia
Dear Jean;
I can't begin to say how sorry I am to hear of Dan's passing. He truly had a gift and ability to lift up the spirit of his fellow man though his songs. I just realized how much I miss hearing those songs and those good times they played a background to in the seventies and beyond. 'Same Old Lang Syne' will carry a much deeper and sadder meaning this year. I'm only 47 but I've begun to feel the weight of my years through my own illness. The passing of my elders and Idols it was bad enough when it was the old folks of my family or old family friends, but watching older friends and Idols of my generation die of cancers brings it home all the more!!! May God bless you and keep you in his loving arms Dan and Jean. Love ~ Craig P. Curtis
I'm so sorry for your loss. Dan was my favorite musician and will be deeply missed. He was an inspiration to me in my pursuit of music and I am so sorry he's gone, however, he will be forever with us due to the musical gift he had and shared with us. His songs struck a deep chord within me (pun intended) regarding my family. I lost my dad last year and am still trying to pick up the pieces of my life and move forward without this extraordinary man in my life. Last summer, as I was leaving a restaurant, Dan's song, "Same Old Lang Syne" came on my song list in my car and I dissolved into tears, remembering my father. The lyrics have nothing to do with our relationship, but the beauty of the song and gentleness reminded me of my dad which brought me to tears. Dan's music was so moving and just hit me so deeply. "Leader of the Band" was another that reminded me of my grandfather and "Run for the Roses" was my grandmother. I have a son with Autism Spectrum Disorder and "The Language of Love" is his favorite song so not only do I love his songs, but my sons sees the beauty as well. Dan was such a truly talented musician-I am so deeply sorry for your loss and the loss of such a great talent to the world. God bless you in this challenging, difficult time. Sincerely ~ Linnie Mills
For 33 years I have been a devoted fan. Today my first grandchild was born. My son celebrated his 16th birthday. Dan Fogelberg died. My heart is full and aching. His gift has blessed me through the years. Adolescence when I hoped to marry him, Adulthood, when his music got me through the good and bad times. Twenty years into my marriage to wonderful man, and three sons later. I only wish is that I had written that letter of thanks before he passed from this plane. Sir, your music has been a soundtrack for my Life. I thank you and I live with the hope to tell you when are all at Home together. My heartfelt condolences to your wife, friends and family. ~ Laura Jean Derby
I wish to express my deepest sympathy and condolences to Jean and Dan's family. What a tremendous loss.
Today has been bittersweet for me. Today is my birthday and I received a CD and DVD of Dan (quite ironic), and later in the evening while watching the news, I heard of his passing. I was blessed to have older brothers who schooled me in fine music, including my first brush with Dan Fogelberg on the 8-track of Captured Angel (still one of my favorites). His music and lyrics have provided inspiration, solace, and strength at various times in my life. I am truly saddened by his passing. God be with you! ~ Matt - Highland, UT
My heart cries when his sings,
always has, always will. ~
GREG,"Sircumfrence"
For me, and I'm sure for all of you reading this message, today is the day
the music died. The vinyl, the CDs, and the few videos became a bit more
precious today somehow.
To Dan's family we send our most heart-felt condolences. ~

Jean, My name is Kent Agee. I'm a writer of some success in Nashville. I would probably not
be making a living as a songwriter if it weren't for Dan's lyrical influence. I certainly
wouldn't be the lyricist that I am. My thoughts are with you tonight. The loving, supportive partner of a songwriter is
already a hero of giving. I will forever miss the music Dan might have yet made, but my
God what a legacy he's left us. "Captured Angel" is playing in my head and in my heart
right now. I wish you all the best.
Most Sincerely ~
Kent Agee
Dan:
I am a fledgling writer who has worked tediously at his craft for 10+ years
now and have found inspiration in the themes your music resonates, as they
mirror closely with what I believe in and try to express in my words. Thank
you Dan for who you are.
To Dan's family: I know it is difficult to do, but please take solace in
the fact that Dan will always be a part of you. God bless you and rely on your
faith in these difficult times. You will feel Dan's spirit again. ~ John
I am so sorry to hear of Dan's death.
Sounds trite, but no words can express the sadness and loss. His music, especially "Leader of the Band," really spoke to something deep inside us all. We could see ourselves in Dan's songs, and the gentleness and peace within them drew us all in.
He will be terribly missed.
Please extend our heartfelt sympathy to Dan's family. ~
Deborah Sweet,
New York
Friends and family of Dan....I was in a hurry Friday as I was arriving at my destination. "Same Old Lang Syne" came on the radio. I stayed and listened to the song. That says it all. Bless you. Thanks for Dan. ~ John
I want to express my Love for a man that changed my life and I am
forever
grateful for his grace."One day we will all understand. "
Aloha.
Dan was with me thru the 70's and 80's with his music. My heart goes out
to his family and friends. His music will live on and I will think of
him often this holiday season. ~
Brad - Perth, Australia
To Dan's family and friends I send my deepest sympathy. This is a very, very sad day. Peace be with you, Dan. Go freely now. ~ K
His songs were the setting for my best memories. I think of those I loved though they may no longer be with me and when I hear those beautiful melodies I also feel "just for a moment I am back at school". Thank you Dan for all you have created - for the true expressions of the divine in our souls. I have thought of words like soulful, harmonic, rhythmic, moving, joyous or melancholy but the best word to define your music is "true". Your music was true to yourself and true to all of us who it spoke to. More than any other artist, you spoke my language and I understood. More than ever I will be haunted by your melodies. Here's to the brother I never met but knew so well. So long my friend and until that morning may you journey ever on. ~ Jay Salt Lake, UT
My deepest condolences to Dan Fogelberg's wife, family, friends, and fans. Dan
inspired me throughout my entire music career. My next few shows will be
dedicated to Dan and his music. I am truly saddened by his passing but know he
will always be with me on stage. Love always ~ Brian Munger
I'm so saddened to learn that Dan lost his courageous battle with cancer.
Peace and love to his family and friends. I grew up in Peoria and my older
sister went to high school with Dan at Woodruff. I remember when a friend
brought his first album over to show us--it was so exciting. Another memory
is that Dan was my very first rock concert when he came home to Peoria in
'75 after "Part of the Plan" became a hit. I was 13 and so mesmerized by
his performance at Glen Oak Park. I'll never forget it or him. Godspeed,
Songbird. ~ Kate (Springfield, IL)
I am heartbroken.
From the very first moment I heard Dan's voice in song, life as a music lover changed for me. I cannot begin to express in mere words the positive influence he had on me. There have been so many times in my life where I wanted to give up and felt that life was harsh and cruel. Then I would put on his albums and headphones to begin healing my aching soul. I know these words may sound extreme and melodramatic but they are so very true. When my first marriage broke down, I wondered if I would ever find a man who understood the soul of a woman, then came his words "there's a heart in the soul of a woman, that only the truest of loves can release." set it freeee, oh set it freee! As I listened over and over to those words and so many others I began healing and realizing that if he understood this, then there was hope for me to find it out there somewhere.
I know you are in the light of perfect love, Dan, and can continue your loving work from where you are. We will all miss you but thankfully have your words and music to soothe us now until forever. I was one of the lucky ones who got to see you sing live and in person. In fact my daughter and I spent one summer traveling from one concert to another both in our state (Washington) and the adjoining one (Oregon). It all began that summer with my daughter winning tickets for she and I to see him on the waterfront in Seattle.
God Bless and be with all of his loved ones at this time of great loss. ~
Linda H., Olympia, Washington.
Dear Dan, You gave so much. And were taken from us so young. Why? I only know you
through your music. Perhaps someday we can talk and I can listen and learn
about this very special person named
Dan Fogelberg.
God bless you and your family. ~
Zac
I heard the first strains of the "Same Old Lang Syne" today during the news and
my heart fell even before they announced that our Dan had passed.
Dan and his music has been part of my life since my teens, with his music our prom and homecoming themes in high school. You will be missed Dan. May you be at peace now, and those you loved and that love you find comfort in these coming days. ~ Becky in Alaska
Dan,
I was both an honor and a privilege to play your music on the radio in Denver, Milwaukee and Rochester, Minnesota. It was also a thrill to meet you in person in St. Paul and Milwaukee. Your music meant more to me than you'll ever know. Thanks you for helping make those early adult years a lot easier to deal with.
I know you're teaching the angels a thing or two about making heavenly music. Thanks again, Dan, for everything. You'll be missed. See you "Down the Road." ~
Tim Dunbar,
Denver, Colorado
Godspeed Dan, and blessings to your family as they grieve the loss of such an
inspirational man. ~ Amy in Oregon
So sorry to hear this very sad news.
Dan's music touched my heart.
My condolences to Dan's family.
Dan's music saved me through many hard times during my youth... an especially difficult time during my Jr. High years. I would lay awake at night with my headphones on and listen to The Innocent Age on my record player, non-stop. I would put the arm of the record changer over and let the needle repeat my favorite record sides until I fell asleep each night. The lyrics and the beauty of all of Dan's music will forever be etched in my soul. I know he must have been a wonderful and truly heartfelt person.
I lost my father to prostate cancer 7 years ago... and it's a very sad disease to battle and watch someone you love suffer through.
Your family's sadness is felt throughout the world during this time. May God bless you and Dan in his next life journey. ~
Kevin Jones - Lancaster, PA
The snow has turned into rain. ~ M. Meade - Las Vegas, NV
Hello. I am sorry that you had to lose your husband so early in life. I am also sorry that I did not know his music. I know how you feel. I lost my granddad to cancer 6 years ago and it is still hard today. But it does get better. Just think of all the good time you had and you will be fine. He never leaves your side. He is with you all the time. Please give my regards to your family. ~ Katie Thompson, UK
My sincerest condolences. Dan and his music were very popular during my college years. We will miss him greatly. ~
Richard Horah
My thoughts and prayers go out to Dan's family. My family has struggled as well with cancer, losing several loved ones. I know from experience that this time of year can be especially difficult. I hope that knowing how much his fans cared about him provides comfort to the family. For almost 30 years, Dan's music has had a special part in my life. There always seemed to be a song of his to capture times when I sought hope, love, peace or wanted to reminisce. For this I am thankful, and now I will treasure my cd collection of his songs even more. ~ Lorree
To Jean and Dan's loved ones: His voice touched millions of hearts, his
words touched millions of souls. I pray his love remains with you all your
days, and the memories bring you strength and joy. ~ Lindan in Michigan
I turned 18 in 1975. Dan's music was very influential to me back then and
beyond. I literally loved everything that he ever did. I started college in
"77", and those years for me were the absolute best years of my life, and when I think back to that period, I always think of the music that I loved, and Dan's music is always in those thoughts. To this day every time I hear a Fogelberg tune it carries me back to those times that I wish so badly I could return to. The first time that I heard "Leader of the Band" I was driving alone in my car. Of course I recognized the voice immediately, so I turned up the volume. My Father was having serious health problems at that time, and I knew that it was just a matter of time before my Dad would be gone also. I had a bit of a problem driving for a while because I started to cry knowing that my leader of the band would not be around for much longer. I love that song, and every time that I hear it, I go to another zone, and listen to that song so intently, and get a little sad, but at the same time I feel ok, because of the heart felt message that Dan got across in that beautiful tribute to his father.
I just learned tonight that Dan passed away, and that makes me sad. My condolences to his family and fans, and my thanks to Dan Fogelberg's music for being such a big part of my life during the best times of my life. Even though I had never met Dan, I will miss him, and I will cherish his music for ever.
Sincerely ~
Reese Grandstaff
Very sorry to hear of the sad news. I hope your family and friends make it through this rough period of time with strength and a great deal of pride that they were able to have shared your life with them. Beautiful music. We'll miss you. ~

"There is a light in the depths of your darkness." To the Fogelberg family my condolences. Now Dan has got a gig playing guitar with the Angels. His music is a permanent part of my memory and will resonate forever through the strings on my fretboard.. ~ Owen Jarvis, Phoenix, AZ
From the first time I heard "Part Of The Plan", Dan Fogelberg became a true
inspiration. It was the first song I learned to play on the guitar. A "Captured Angel" has risen to the "Stars". An incredible talent has been
silenced far too soon. Your music will live on. Deepest condolences to
Jean and the Fogelberg family. ~
Michael Glazer
Dan,
Your music was and IS magical. For "Gambler", "Longer", "Leader of the Band"... --
these and so many other of your compositions are heaven sent, and as you enter
the next phase of your spirit's journey, please know that we'll miss you
greatly and continue to savor the myriad musical gifts you've bestowed on us
over the years. Thanks so much! ~
Michael Lyon
Your run for the roses has finally ended but your music legacy will
last
forever in our hearts and souls!
Thank you so much for sharing your gift of music with us, and Jean thank you
so much for all the years of sharing Dan! You have been his pillar of light!
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine! Forever! ~ Bill,
LaPorte, In
My deepest sympathy to Dan's family. Thank you for sharing his wonderful gift with the world. His beautiful songs have carried me through some very rough times and I will always be thankful for his talents. Although his voice has been silenced on earth he can now sing with the choirs of angels. GOD BLESS. Forever Grateful ~ Susan Solano
The suffering is over. You are with the other Angels. I've been a huge fan of yours for over 30 years. I've seen you in concert at least 12 times and prayed that I had one last time to see you and your beautiful performances. The best artist in the world is what you are. Jean, may God help you and all of the family through this time of grief. ~ Shelley Ford, AR
Words cannot express my heart...thank you Dan, for the words and music. To Dan's family and circle of friends:
Honoring your sorrow, wishing you peace. ~ Marie in Minnesota
Jean,
My condolences to you and all that are close to you and Dan. As I write
this, I'm listening to "Same Old Lang Syne".
This song takes me back to a similar time. I've seen Dan in concert a few
times, and was always amazed by the
dynamics in his shows, powerful at times, and gentle at others.
My Mother and a couple of close friends passed away just before the
holidays, and my Father died in the summertime
from cancer, and a close friend is being treated for prostate cancer at this
time. So, I [almost] know what you've been
through and are going through at this time.
It's always an awkward thing to say, but Dan is no longer feeling the pain
and suffering from this disease, and is now in a
better place. Let's keep praying that there will be a cure for this and
other forms of cancer.
My God be with you all at this time.
With Sympathy ~

No human being has touched my life deeper than the soul of Dan Fogelberg, through his
music. My life was transformed and made whole almost 30 years ago by the magic of God
through this man. I am forever grateful for his finding Jean later in his life and that
she was by his side as he journeyed on. My grief is as deep as my gratitude. My
blessings and prayers go out to Dan, Jean, and all the rest of Dan's family, friends, and
fans. ~ Dorothy Thomas, Onancock VA
How terribly sad. Such a gifted musician. "Run for the Roses" is one of his best. It's played constantly here in Kentucky at Derby time. Blessings be upon all his loved ones. The songs will never be forgotten or the man who wrote them.
I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dan Fogelberg. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, family, and all of those, who like me, deeply loved his music. His courage in the face of this disease is a tribute to his character. I have passed on my love of his music to my 6-year-old daughter. I sing his songs (albeit badly) to her when she goes to sleep. Dan, thank you for the music I have loved since I was a kid. Words cannot express how much you will be missed. ~ Laura Boone
I was saddened today to read of the passing of Dan Fogelberg. I have a signed photograph from him that he sent to me years ago and it's one of my treasured items. I'm a 43 year old woman who has loved and cherished his music since I was 18. I come from an abusive home and many nights I would lie in bed and listen to Nether Lands and feel such peace and such amazing calm. Albums like The Innocent Age. Songs such as "The Lions Share". I have every single CD and although I was just one of the millions he touched with his lyrics and his voice, I am one that truly received gifts from him that will last me a lifetime. We were blessed to have him. Now Heaven is blessed to have him. My heart goes out tonight to his family. They are all in my prayers. And the beautiful thing about an artist such as Mr. Fogelberg is that he never truly leaves us. If we need to feel him all we need to do is put his music on and he is still with us, forever.
Salute Dan Fogelberg. Thank you for all of the strength you gave me from the moment I first heard your music. And thank you for the strength you continue to give me today. ~

I am speechless. I've been a fan since '70.
I didn't even know he was sick. I'll be 53 in March and never had a psa. I'll be getting one this week thanks to Dan.
I count Dan as a major force in the development of my skills
both as a performer as well as a songwriter. My closet is full of vinyl with his name on it. I will treasure the collection more than ever. My prayers are for his wife and family.
God bless you. ~
G.E. PERRY (GORDO)
The world has lost one of its greatest artists. I grew up listening to his music and fondly remember times spent with my brother and sister singing at the tops of our voices right along with Dan as his albums played. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends during this time. May his legacy and music continue to play on.....
Sincerely ~

We love you Dan and wish Jean the strength to get through this trying time. You truly were "The Leader of the Band" and you won't be forgotten. ~
The Leasure family
God Bless you Dan and your family. You have only left us in this physical world
'cause your music lives on eternally. Your music represents what was in your
heart and you shared that with the world. Thank you for your contribution to our
lives and for the peace and joy you shared with us! ~ Jon
You can mend a broken heart...dry the tears that you cry
but there's no catchin' up with the time gone by. You can try to run it down until the day that you die but
there's no catchin' up with that time gone by. Dan was a global treasure. His voice was heard everywhere. Our prayers and our hearts go out to Jean. Dan lives
on in our hearts and he is on what he might call "The Eternity Tour"..or just another
town along the road. His voice rings out across the
universe
and will forevermore. Godspeed to you, Dan...and to you Jean, my love. I wish you peace. Warmest ~ michael
I am stunned...Fogelberg's music was more than a revelation to me. It encouraged me to become a musician. I first heard his 'Souvenirs' album in 1973, and I knew then that I wanted to create music like his. His lyrics, his sense of melody, and his incredible insight into humanity will be forever lasting...thanks, Dan, for all you did. 'Between the worlds of men and make believe I can be found...' or 'Where do you go when you get to the end of your dreams'. Thanks ~ Mike Wilson, Visalia, Ca
Back in the early seventies I felt this man's work, especially playing in the mountains of Colorado, his music made my journeys brighter and more in love with my wife wherever we went. I miss her and I will miss Dan. Rest my friend. We are always at the beginning of the journey, and Jean, remembering all the good times spent with the one you loved helped me through my loss.
Dan shared his talent with the world and because of that gift, the world is
a better place. In so many ways his music has helped shape our lives. He
will live on in our memories and in the very fabric of our being -- thank you
for the gift Dan -- rest in peace. ~ Ron Havelaar, Texas
Like many others, Dan's music carried me through my teens.
I am greatly saddened by the loss of a very talented and young man.
May he rest in peace.
Our prayers go out to the Family. ~

the plan.
Await your arrival, with simple survival, and one day we'll all

What a sad day when we lose someone special to us. The sharing of his
music with friends and family over the years has been so uplifting and
inspiring to all who listened. He now joins that great band of
entertainers that have gone before. He's been the salvation and healer
with his lyrics and music of so many. We will miss you. Your music will
live on forever in our hearts ~ Jeff and Caren from West Virginia
Your music will always live in our hearts. That you so much for your inspiration through your music.
I am listening to you now.
RIP. ~

What horrible news. I used to sing "Leader of the Band" over and over when I was young. I'd
add different lyrics or hum, but it was a regular on the rotation that is in my mind...
as an adult as well. Dan's music changed my life in so many small ways. When I was moved
by an artist, I could add this song to the visuals playing in my mind and they always
fit. Not just this song but others too. He had a sensitivity that reached me and calmed
the air all around.
Just now, I expected to turn in for the evening and was just checking my email after a
busy day, but found this news devastating. It's as if I knew him, an old friend. Sadness.
One of the good guys, gone from here.
I feel very strange about this communication and am not really sure why I thought you
needed to know this. I haven't done anything like this before, on an email that seems
impersonal and random. It is because I believe Dan was a great man, inspiring and kind.
I am so sorry to hear he suffered in this way and send you my heartfelt sympathy for
your loss. ~Heather Kennedy
May God bless you and hold you tight. You have given so much to the world
with your beautiful music. I can only think of your soul-wrenching song, "Since You've Asked," and how much it means to fans now. Personally, your music
has given me joy, love and strength since the early 70s. No other artist
fits that bill. Now, you are no longer a captured angel. You will be missed.
~ Debbie
Very sad news. He was part of our youth, will always be remembered in Athens, Greece
I write this with a heavy heart. Someone on TMZ wrote that Dan's music soothed her soul. She hit the nail right on the head. That is exactly what it does. I have enjoyed it for over 30 years. I don't think I could ever pick a favorite.
Dan, may you rest in peace. You have given us such pleasure for such a long time and you have fought the good fight. And your message didn't fall on deaf ears. I will make sure that our doctor does a PSA on my husband at our next appointment and, since I just turned 50, I will go and have my colonoscopy. And I will keep up with my mammograms. The tests are not fun, but I'm sure the treatment is much less so. And that lasts a whole lot longer than it takes for the tests. (Let's all do this in honor of Dan.) Your fight is now over. Go with God. The world is a quieter place tonight, but your music will live on forever. To Jean and the family, my deepest sympathies. Take comfort in knowing that Dan's pain is over. I was going to say that yours is just beginning, but I'm sure yours began long ago. It is very painful to watch someone you love going through such awful things. My Dad died suddenly and my Mom was in and out of the hospital for years and finally spent her last month there. As much of a shock as it was when my Dad died, ultimately, it was far better than it was watching my Mom. God bless all of you.
Dan - You are finally at peace. Your music will live on and I am
privileged to have been a fan of yours for over 30 years.
Jean and Dan's Family - My thoughts and prayers are with you. ~ Michele,
Orange, CA
So many of Dan's words of inspiration kept me going during good times and
bad...even the sad songs sent motivation, probably without his realizing...My
thoughts and wishes go out to family, friends, and fans. ~ Rob- Houston, Texas
When I heard that Dan Fogelberg had passed away today, it dawned on
me
.... the huge display of distant memories I had from his songs. Some of my family lived in Dillon and Keystone, Colorado, I would visit often. We listened to a lot of Dan's music while watching the snow fall on the glistening evergreen trees behind the lodge. I felt love for the first time to his songs....ugh, it aches to this day, I was 15 and had a crush on a young blue eyed skier. Those songs remind me of softly fallen snow and serene moments like I will never have again. I remember hearing "Dancing Shoes" and it always moved me to tears, as it is now, to hear it. That man had a softness and a spirit like no other.
What a legacy to leave, not many can do what he did, touch people in so many ways.
God bless his spirit, his family and his song!! He will be missed dearly! ~
Susan
I'm sick with sadness that this wonderful songwriter's life was cut short. Even
though his music spanned 30 years, for an artist, there's no such thing as
retirement. We could have gone on another 30 years.
Many of his songs struck me to the core, but I have had a special place for all the songs on "Twin Sons Of Different Mothers." By the time that album was laid to rest, it had so many scratches and nicks, the songs crackled like a 1920s movie.
I wish I would have found this site sooner, and I could have told him directly how much I loved his music. ~
Roseann Haslett
My heartfelt prayers and condolences to one of the greatest musicians of our time. He changed the world with his lyrics and made us stronger with his tunes. He will be missed but definitely not forgotten. ~
Charlene
I am saddened to know of Dan's passing. He was inspirational for me throughout my time of growing up. His words and music encouraged me and helped through many difficult times. I will pray for his soul. ~ Sandy from Pasadena
May he rest peacefully within the heart of the gentle love he expressed so
beautifully in his music.
Thank, you, Dan. ~
Jim Sheehan
Words cannot begin to express my sadness. Like so many millions of others
(think about that, MILLIONS), Dan's music was many things to me: an
inspiration, a comfort, a safe harbor.
We have lost a true legend. May Jean find grace and strength to carry on.~ Brock N. Meeks, Annandale, VA
God Bless Dan's Family. We had no idea he was ill. His music has been a
pleasure for our family many years now all the way back to our early eighties
high school years. Now at the age of 44 with a five year old daughter we relate
more and more the "The Innocent Age" masterpiece that will remain timeless as
great records affirm. ~Tony and Kellie Craft
So sorry to hear of Dan's passing. He was way too young. What an impression he
made in
his short number of years.
Love and prayers ~

I have attended uncountable live shows in my life and multiple Dan Fogelberg performances, but, the one moment in all the hundreds of hours of concert going that will forever be the most memorable happened in the summer of 1977 at the Wolman Skating Rink in Central Park, New York City. Dan walked on stage solo, sat at the piano and began to play "NetherLands" without accompaniment. By the measure in the song where the lyric reads ".for the wind and the snow and sky" not another sound could be heard amongst 5000+ people and it felt as if the entire audience had been transported on a gentle wind to a higher place far away from the boundaries of earth, in the most hectic city in the world. May we all find comfort knowing that Dan has arrived at that destination he has given the entire planet a preview of. ~ David Forrest, Bend, Oregon.
I was saddened to hear of Dan Fogelberg's passing today. It stopped me
in my tracks and took me back to the early eighties when as a young
teacher I would play his music on my way home in the car on volume 10!
and sing along. It would help release all the problems of the day and
put me back on a high. I loved and still do love his music. It touched my
heart and soul. I know the words to so many songs. My prayers are with
his family and friends. ~
Lee Hall Brisbane, Australia
