Dear Dan & Jean,
Dan has always been a huge influence on my music and I have always
considered his art an inspiration. Through his recordings and
performances, he has introduced me to other inspiring artists such as
Emmylou Harris and Beth Nielsen Chapman. His thoughts toward
environmental issues and the spirit that moves us all have inspired many
of us fans, as well. Although his time here was far too short, his
music, message, and memory will live ...ever on.
My deepest sympathy ~
Jorge Luis Arocha, Jr.
Thanks for the tunes, Dan.
Your music always brought a smile to my face. You will be missed.
Rest in peace.
Dear Jean,
We're so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. We just wanted to say
that we can't imagine what the holidays would be like without hearing his "Same Old Lang Syne" on the radio at least once. It always brings a tear
to our eyes. He has left a mark on so many people's lives and will be
missed immensely. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
I'm having trouble coming up with words that will honor Dan. He was one
of the most wonderful and gifted artists that we will ever encounter. I
loved his music, I could identify with it and it very frequently would
comfort me in my time of need. I went to almost all of his concerts
here in Tulsa, but never got to meet him formally. I will miss him
greatly, but thank God his music will live forever. My love goes out to
all of his family.
I got my first introduction to Dan's wonderful music as a Colby
College
student in Maine in the mid-1970s. One of my buddies in the dorm had "Souvenirs," and the first time I heard it I was hooked. I went out and
bought it, and later "Captured Angel," "Nether Lands," and "Twin Sons." When
I was a junior I had a 4-hour radio show on Saturday mornings on Colby's
then-10 watt WMHB radio, and I always started my show with "Part of the
Plan." I won't admit to having a complete discography of Dan's music, but in
my younger days I would frequently retreat to one of his records for some
solace.
I have to admit I was never a big fan of "Old Lang Syne," and was a bit
perturbed by radio in the 80s that seemed to have the notion that was Dan's
only great song. "Lessons Learned" off of "Nether Lands" was always one of
my favorites, but I loved the whole album, and literally played the grooves
out of "Nether Lands." Listening to it now as I write this, with all its
pops and skips, brings back great memories.
God Bless Dan, Jean and the Fogelberg family. ~
Robert J. Kinney
To Mr. Fogelberg's family, My husband and I were married almost 20 years ago to Dan's music. He is from Colorado, I am from Florida. I had two sons from a previous marriage. Dan's songs "Nether Lands" and "To The Morning" both spoke directly to our relationship, our history and our future together. Dan and his music have always had a very special place in our hearts and in the lives of our family. One of our greatest joys was seeing his live acoustic show in Tampa, Florida many years ago. When he played "Nether Lands", my husband and I both cried...wonderful, joyous tears of our wedding day and what the song means to us. Our hearts our broken for you and your personal loss. What a wonderful man! ~ Michelle W. Larson
So many are deeply saddened today at this heartbreaking news. My
thoughts are with you Jean and all those who were close to Mr.
Fogelberg. His music touched us in a uniquely emotional way. He will
live on in his music for a long, long time. God bless you and bring you
peace that only He can give. ~

Dan's song, "Same Old Lang Syne", gives me such sentimental feelings that I
never knew could exist. It has a very deep meaning for me. Firstly, it
reminds me of a very, very dear friend of mine, Dwight, who died very
young (about 35) from a heart attack while doing his very best favorite
thing, hunting turkey. He once told me that the line "the years had been
a friend to her" was, in his opinion, the nicest thing one could tell a
woman. I agreed. When Dwight died, I lost someone very special. Now,
I lost another person who helped make Dwight so special to me.
Jean, my husband, Jack, died in 1991. He left me with his son, at that
time age 7 years old. Please allow me to give you the following advice:
Don't expect too much of yourself in moving on. I found that there is
no closure for the loss of one's husband. I have re-married twice since
then, and it's like I'm still searching for what I lost. I recently
realized that I'll never find it again. You'll never "get over" the
loss of Dan, but you will learn to live with that loss. You'll never
move past it; you'll just learn to live with it. Eventually, you will
be able to think about the happy times and not cry too much. I still
cry and it's been since 1991.
God Bless You, My Dear. I wish I could do something for you. I'm sure
that you know a lot of women whose husbands have died and they will be
there to try to give you consolation.
With Deepest Sympathy ~
Jo-Anna
All I can think of is that there will never be any other artist that can
have such an affect on my life as Dan has. I cannot express to you my
sadness. Dan's music has touched my life in ways that no other music or
artist ever has or ever will. Jean and family, may God give you grace
to walk the path without Dan in your life. He would have wanted you all
to choose the path of happiness and sweet peace. Be On Your Way, Dan,
put on your Dancin' Shoes, and Reach for the Stars. Your life has come
Full Circle. ~ Vicki Johnson, Frankfort, KY.
Dan was a wonderful man and musician. He will be greatly missed. I loved each and every song he sang and wrote. Dan's music was very dear to me. His music was part many of the important times in my life. I send my thoughts and condolences to his wife and family. May you remember how loved he was. You are all in my thoughts. ~ Kathy H.
Dear Family of Dan Fogelberg,
He was a hunk I had a crush on in my girlish college years, an inspiration in my early
20's and someone I respected and had great affection for in my adulthood. And I was just
a fan. It must be very hard for those of you who really knew and loved him. I am so
sorry he is gone. ~
Candace
Dear Jean,
I wanted to let you know how sorry I am for your loss and the loss of all of us. Dan's music has brought smiles, tears and enjoyment to me for more than 30 years. I never missed a concert when he visited Nashville. Know that the entire music world grieves with you today.
Sincerely ~
Debbi Pearsall
I was very saddened to hear about Dan's passing. His beautiful music will
be with me all my life. ~ Mary V.
Oh my what a great loss. My wife, Deena, and I cannot express enough our deepest sympathy. My wife introduced me to the music of Dan when we first got together in 1988 and I have loved his music ever since. She felt so inspired by the music and was comforted as she went through her hard times in life when she was growing up. She was so insisting on making sure that "Longer" was played at our wedding and to have it as "our song". I didn't argue as I loved the song too. Dan will be greatly missed by everyone. I pray peace for Jean and hope that she knows he is no longer suffering and will be with us all forever as we all know he is in Heaven looking over and helping all of us through life. Our love to you Jean. ~ Donnie and Deena Powell
Dan,
Your music has been a part of my life for over 30 years. You are the
best.
Fans,
Let's celebrate his life by singing "Christ, the King" from his
Christmas album.
From Ann Arbor, Michigan- Dan's soulful poetry and I will dance a "pas de deux" forever. ~ Wende Sharma
Yesterday I lost a friend. A man whose music was present in my highs,
lows and everyday life. To Jean and all of Dan's friends and family
that held him through this passage, thank you for meaning so much to his
life. My sincere sympathy to you all. For me, I'll let the love of his
music be my guiding star.
Peace to you. Katie Relkin ~ Dripping Springs, TX
Dan Fogelberg is the one main source of musical strength I've had
through my whole adult life. Whenever things were hard, or I needed
uplifting, or I was celebrating and felt great, I would turn to him.
It's so ironic that he passed now. I can go months without listening to
him, but the last 2 weeks have been the hardest in my life, and I once
again turned to my musical friend and supporter, Dan, and have been
listening to him daily! He has helped me so much, and his life is an
inspiration.
I'm very sad for his family. I only knew him through his music, and the
few interviews he has done, but one thing was clear, this was a man with
a lot of love, a lot of passion, talent and integrity.
God bless you Dan, for how you used your talents to enrich other's
lives. I know you touched my life so positively so many times, and
perhaps saved my life a time or two. I will always be grateful and
always be a fan. ~
Laura Kjellman
High school grad of 1980, I remember Dan Fogelberg's music very well. "The Power of Gold" was the theme to our senior prom. Just last week, my daughter was stumped by snippets of a song her husband heard on the radio-I immediately knew it was a DF song ("Same Old Lang Syne"). Thanks to Dan for a lot of great songs that always evoke memories.... ~ Greg M.
To Jean and all of Dan's family:
I am offering you our deepest and most sincere sympathies on the passing of
Dan on behalf of me, my wife Connie, and our children Mary, Michael and
Grace. Dan has touched my life with his words and music for over 30 years
and my wife and children's lives also, over the last 13 years. While I have
always been a lover of good music, I can honestly say that once I was
introduced to Dan's songs, I always had one of his CD's (or tapes) with me
in my car, because he became the standard for me. There was a calming
effect to his music that would actually give you a feeling of peace in your
heart when you listened to it. I have, I believe, every one of his albums
and have attended at least 10 of his concerts in the midwest over the years.
I introduced my wife Connie to Dan's songs soon after we met in 1994 and she
immediately fell in love with them. My children are only 12, 11 and 9, but
quickly became fond of Dan's music and it became a big part of their lives
as it was with Connie and me. Also, I could sense that Jesus was with Dan,
guiding him in writing his songs. I always knew that this had to be, because
he used "love" as a such a common thread in his songs.
We thank God for the blessing he gave us all in giving us Dan Fogelberg and
his music, and we ask Him to take Dan's soul into sweet heavenly paradise to
enjoy unending happiness. We also ask him to bless you Jean, and all of
Dan's family and friends, at this very difficult time. We will never forget
him!
With Love ~
The Piotrowski Family
A very sad day with the passing of an amazing voice and person, but the
joy of his music will live forever! Thank you for this Dan!
To Jean:
Know that many people's thoughts and prayers are with you. Dan touched so
many lives for the good. He now is free of pain and home with the Lord. ~
Kathy F., Woodland Park, Colorado
To Dan Fogelberg's wife, extended family, and friends:
My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and everyone close to Dan. My husband
and I grew up listening to Dan's music. My husband still loves to listen to
the oldies channels on Sirius and on the radio. We sing along with every
Dan Fogelberg song that comes on the radio. I had no idea he was battling
cancer. It is a hard road to haul. Many thoughts and prayers. ~ Diane,
Elizabeth, Colorado.
When my husband of 25 years and I were dating we listened to Dans music all the
time. To this day when we hear his songs it touches our hearts and rekindles our
feelings of long ago. Dan Fogelberg was one of a kind and he will be truly
missed. Our condolences to his friends and family. ~ Ron and Kelly Turner, Dawson
Georgia
Thank you Dan for expressing what we all felt but did not have the gift you
had. I am truly heartbroken at your passing. You will forever be in my heart. ~
Terri
Dan:
I am shocked and saddened by the news of you passing today. Although your
presence will be missed, your music will carry on for a long long time.
Although I was never fortunate enough to meet you, you have always been one
of my truest friends. From the first time I heard your music and played it
until the vinyl was worn smooth, to all the hours and hours you helped me
learn to play the guitar so I could be closer to your music, to the time you
spent with us on our wedding day when we played 2 of your songs. Your music
touched us deeply and that will never change.
Our prayers go to Jean and your family. Our deepest thanks and appreciation
go to you for the wonder and magic you gave all of us. ~
Fred
Dan, may you be in the loving arms of God right now and experiencing
peace and contentment.
My husband Richard woke me up in the middle of the night (he'd been
listening to the radio) and said he had to hold my hand when he told me
some bad news. He knows how much I adore you, Dan, and he too is a fan.
Jean, so many people share your grief, not to the same extent of course
but certainly at an unusually personal level. Dan let us know him quite
well through his music and his incredible talent and he will be sorely
missed for a long time. May you derive comfort from us all. I thank
him for the music and for getting me much more involved in music myself.
Fly away my sweet bird over the land. ~
Maura
Just wanted to send my thoughts and prayers to the Fogelberg family during this
time of loss. Dan's life and Dan's music touched so many lives in so many ways.
He will be sorely missed....
Dan Fogelberg was a huge part of my life and I will miss him. I remember seeing
him perform live in Atlanta and I cried because it was such a thrill, such a
beautiful concert. May he rest in peace, wherever beautiful music is playing.
~
Suzanne DeBolt,
Signal Mountain Tennessee
My husband and I saw several of your shows in Nashville, Tn. and it was pure magic. The first show my husband surprised me with the tickets on my car seat when I was getting in to go home after a hard day of work. His voice and words carried people to a better place as I am sure he is in today. ~ Darlene Elmore, Hendersonville, TN
His music and words touched us so, even in now in our 50's and 60's we still
love his music and how it still is enjoyed to this day.
He will be missed...
Dear Dan , I'll light a candle for you tonight. Your music was a powerful
gift to this world. ~ nhs from poughkeepsie, ny
Jean - Dan lives on in his music and in the hearts of all his fans. He
is at peace. May you find your peace in his words, for they are truly
his legacy.
God Bless ~ Vicki
Growing up, I listened to your music regularly on the radio and, without intention, learned them by heart. It wasn't until later in life, as the encounter of life experiences and rights of passage were found, that your words took on such a different meaning and meant so much more to me. You will be terribly missed in the hearts of all. May your wife, Jean, find strength, both in the love of your family, an endless following of fans, and the powerful legacy which you leave behind. With deepest regrets ~ David Foito
It's difficult to understand why God chooses to take people who have so much
love in their hearts and so much more to offer this world. The feeling of
emptiness overwhelms me.
I feel, as I'm sure all of us feel, short changed. Dan, I thank you for your sojourn here on this planet. You have made this world more bearable to endure with your beautiful music and words.
My heart weeps with your absence. I hope to see you in your next sojourn. ~
Alan James Hutchinson
God speed, Dan. Your gifts of music and words blessed us and touched us for
so many years. Thank you and may you now rest in peace. Jean, our heartfelt
prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family. May they bring you comfort
and peace. God Bless. ~ Mike and Amy, Frederick, MD
To this very day the greatest concert I ever attended was circa 1975.
Dan opened up for Dave Mason at the Auditorium North Hall in Memphis,
Tennessee. I fell in love with him then and have followed him since
that time. I grieve for his lose but celebrate what joy he gave me.
God Bless his family. Thanks Dan for enhancing my life. ~
Pamela G. Burgess
To all of the friends and family of Dan -
My deepest condolences. I will miss him and his music - especially his wonderful words. But his songs (and his memory) will always remain in my heart. ~
Linda Tommasulo
When I heard of Dan's passing this morning I was
heartbroken. For years I have followed his music since the
early 80's and have loved all of his songs.
My one goal in life was to go to a Dan Fogelberg concert,
but now I'll never get that chance.
His music & lyrics were inspirational and there was not one
song that was the same.
He shall forever be missed. We will always think of him each New Years Eve.
We love you Dan and will miss you! ~
Tom & Dale Mauldin
I thank Dan for the monstrous legacy of beautiful songs he has given to the world. I'm only 28, and am happy when the elder are shocked to hear I know who Dan Fogelberg is, and that I know more songs than they do.
I've met friends my age along my life journey and recall touching memories of how "Longer" came into their life.
"Missing You" and "Lonely in Love" have always been my favorites.
You will be celebrated every day, Dan, without fail.
Many thanks ~
David Daskal
Thank you for many years of beautiful music. You will live on through
the lives of those you touched. May God be with you and your family.
I am truly saddened at the passing of such a giant in my life musically,
I
was driving thru the mountains of Idaho
yesterday taking in the lyrics of the Phoenix CD. I have no words to express
my loss here at Christmas time, except
he inspired my life in the West and my connection to the animals of the
earth in a giant way. I vividly remember his lyrics running thru my mind
just this fall as I gazed upon a red tailed hawk soaring thru a canyon close
to home.
I was so hoping he would recover. ~
Grant & Kimbra Kline
Your soothing voice, emotional lyrics and kindness will be missed. May there be
light upon your path.
Jean, you are in my thoughts and prayers. ~
Patty
I, too, felt the sadness one feels when hearing of the death of a
close
friend. Dan, your music and poetry spoke to me through most of my life,
and I will miss you greatly. Your life may have ended prematurely, but
you touched more hearts than most of us can ever hope to do. May you be
at peace. Jean, peace and love to you and your family at this difficult
time. Know that you are in our hearts. Blessings ~ Cynthia
Wearing the green ribbon today for Dan.
Dan, thank you for making my spirit soar through your music. I often sang with
you in my 20s and 30s singing your musical masterpieces while listening to
all your albums. I had the pleasure of seeing you on your Innocent Age tour as
well as 2-3 other tours. What a performance you gave. I will never forget the
tribute you gave to John Lennon in the Innocent Age tour after he was killed. It
was so moving. Your music brought us all through good days and bad and I believe
will live in our hearts forever. Thank you for all you gave us. We will
miss you. Now go show those angels who the true leader of the band is . . .
condolences to your wife and the world as we experience a true loss. ~ Donna Summers, Somerset, NJ
Dear Jean,

Dear Jean,
In June, I lost my younger brother to Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 40. My father also passed away from cancer five years ago.
While news of Dan's death brought back so many memories of my own loss, it has led me to further discover Dan's music, and provided me with a much a deeper understanding of his life and legacy. His music was open, honest, and often compassionate. This Christmas season, I and my family have discovered Dan's CD "The First Christmas Morning", and played it while opening our gifts this year at our family gathering. I've traveled to Bethlehem, and at Christmas time feel a sense of loss at not being able to be at the Church of the Nativity for the Christmas Celebration. But Dan's music has allowed me to truly feel the presence of Christ's birth. While Dan's death has brought sadness into our holiday season, his Christmas music has brought much joy to what would normally be a quite sad Christmas season.
My sympathies go out to you. May you be richly blessed this Holiday Season! ~
Doug Delorge,
Biddeford, Maine
It is with great sadness that I recently heard the news of Dan's passing. I've been playing guitar for 37 years and consider myself lucky to have learned so much about guitar playing, counterpoint, and music from Dan. I consider "Souvenirs" to be one of the great albums of all time. I have it up there with Allman Bros live at the Fillmore East. When I first heard this album I wanted to sell my guitars and forget singing altogether. But, with perseverance and being blessed with a great ear, I was able to pick up quite a bit. I learned drop D tuning and other tunings by trying to learn Dan's music.
His legacy is so much more than recorded music. There have to be thousands of players like me that owe whatever level of competency they've reached to Dan as a teacher. And add to that the many people that have heard those people play and have enjoyed their playing. He was, in my view, the most complete musician I've ever had the pleasure of picking apart. "Part of the Plan" and "Morning Sky" are staples in my repertoire and have been for decades.
I had the pleasure of seeing him only once at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ. I was in awe of his command of both his voice and the guitar. His shows at this time had him playing solo in the early part if the show. You could hear a pin drop when he played this part of his show. And, he was flawless.
My sincerest condolences to his loved ones and deepest thanks for the wonderful musicianship he displayed as well as thanks for the priceless lessons I've learned from him.
God Bless ~ Tom S
Our thoughts and prayers are with you & your family. Thank you for sharing
Dan with us.
Sincerely ~
Mary Helmers & Family
I never met Dan, but I loved his music and lyrics. They both touched my life. Dan left us very young. I've been wanting to see him, but the opportunity never came. He was one of the finest musicians I have ever heard. May God be with him.~

My name is Noboru Takagi, living in Aichi Pref. Japan.
I’ve been listening to Dan Fogelberg’s music for over 30 years.
Last Monday, I heard the sad news, the death of Dan.
His music has been giving me good spirit , encouraging me
all the time.
In fall 2004, I read about his battle with prostate cancer in the
homepage. Since then, I’ve been expecting to hear a good
news about recovery of it, because I’ve lost my elder sister
for brain cancer in 2003.
We’ve lost good musicians: John Denver in 1997, Warren Zevon
in 2004. This time, we lost Dan.
We Japanese fans of Dan Fogelberg miss him, but his beautiful music will never disappear.
Thanks for all, Dan and the staff of The Living Legacy Website.
Dear Jean and the Fogelberg family and friends: I feel as though I have listened to Dan's music most of my life. I remember being in high school and the memories of his music, then touched my life so much. His music is a part of my past and a part of my life. I feel a great loss in my heart, but I am so glad I was able to share and enjoy his music throughout the years. It is evident that Dan was a loving, caring man, with more talent and insight than any other. His voice always seemed that of an angel's with harmonious emotion that reached right down to your heart and soul. There aren't many artists that can do that. I have always felt that Dan, through his music, has helped me to work out a lot of things surrounding my life. I will always be grateful for that. I only wish I were able to tell Dan that. I am sure he knows it, and also knows how much he meant to his family, friends, and adoring fans. Thanks Dan, for all the good things in life. God bless you. You will be truly missed. Missing you ~ Lia Aiello
To Jean and the Fogelberg family:
I am so very saddened by the death of your most beloved Dan. His music was the very definition of my time in college and it surrounded me during the very first time I fell in love – I can never hear his music without thinking of that wonderful young man and my happy years in college. The memory brings tears to my eyes now as I think of it, but I hope it brings happiness to you to know what joy he brought to my life and the lives of many others through his music.
My thoughts are with you and may you forever be bolstered by his love for all of you and your memories of him. He has inspired me to nag my husband to get his tests every year, the same as I get my mammograms!!
Much love ~
Marian Hersh

God bless you Dan. Your music was and always will remain meaningful.
In your own way you have become the "Leader of the Band". Thanks. ~

Today is the "Day the Music Died." Dan was MUSIC to me. His music has
been the soundtrack for my life for the last thirty five years. He inspired,
lifted my spirits, consoled my heart over loves lost, and gave me hope that I
could love again after divorce. Dan was one of the most creative writers, and he always touched my heart
with his lyrics. May his family be comforted, and blessed through the kind
words of so many who have left their memories here. Heaven is more special
to us when we have an investment there. Dan, I look forward to seeing
Heaven with you, because I never had the chance to meet you here in person on
earth. God Speed. ~ Anita
Jean,
As one who has been left behind as a result of cancer, I send my condolences to you. Dan's music will forever bring back to me a time when I was younger and innocent, good memories. When my husband turned forty a few years ago and got his lab slip for annual bloodwork, I CHECKED THE PSA BOX even though the doctor didn't order it. We got a verbal thrashing afterward, but I don't regret it a bit. It's not up to a doctor to decide if we want to screen, simply because the insurance may not pay for it or it's not "warranted". I pay the insurance, I love my husband. Done. Thankfully, it was all good. I'm sending our best wishes to you during this difficult time! ~

Goodbye, Dan. You and your family will be in my prayers. ~ Brian,

cried.
I am a few years younger than him, 51, but I grew up with his music and it
has always been a integral part of my life. My wife and I, just this past
weekend, not even knowing the news, were actually remembering some of his
songs we play and sing together. I remember we got stuck in the house in a
snowstorm back in 1980. We had a six pack of beer, two frozen steaks and a
Dan Fogelberg album. It was a great weekend. The Leader of the Band may have
left this worldly earth, but his inspiration, emotional depth, kind soul,
and most of all his music will always remain with us. Our most sincere
condolences to Jean and the rest of his family.
Sincerely ~
Robin and Billy Hoitt
My condolences to Dan's family. Dan's memory will live on in his music for all of us. Hopefully men will heed his message to get regular checkups. ~ Merle Simpson, Wichita, KS
When I was a young kid, playing Dan's songs on my old Yamaha with my best friend filled with life and heart with joy. 30 years later, as a father and husband, I still am moved by those memories, beautiful music and intense lyrics that helped me through some very difficult times in my life. Thank Dan Fogelberg, thank you for the wonder words and music....
The loss of Dan has left a huge break in my heart. Dan and his music have been a
part of
my life since my college days in the seventies. And now, just turning 50, I still listen,
remember and renew my love of his songs.
I send my deep felt sympathies to Jean and all that were close to him. And Thank You Dan
for sharing your life and music with all of us. Rest In Peace.
Most Sincerely ~

Heartbroken.........
My condolences to Jean and Dan Fogelberg's family. I have been a fan of Dan Fogelberg
since I was a teenager. At that time I found a connection with his music. Throughout
the years I followed his career and continued to go to his concerts when he was in the
New York area. When my dad died in 1990 we had the song "Leader of the Band" played at
his funeral. May you all find peace through this time. ~ Mary B.
I was so saddened to learn of the passing of Dan Fogelberg. His words
and music were of the soul and he certainly touched mine. I wish his
spirit a continued peaceful journey through time. ~

Dan was a true inspiration in my life. He was a great man with an amazing
message. Thank you
I loved Dan from the moment I first heard the Souvenirs album years ago.
Dan Fogelberg has been on my cd player, in my car, on my tee shirts, my
video and is even my password. I've gone to sleep at night listening to
his soothing voice singing his beautiful songs. He's in my heart and
always will be. My prayer, and my heart, go out to Jean, and all of
Dan's family. He will be missed. ~
Teresa
My husband Steve and I are such fans of Dan's music and more importantly the
message. We grieve selfishly for our loss of any further sound from Dan but we
grieve like many more for his family. Another light has gone out. Rest in peace Dan, your memory lives on. With much appreciation for a gift to the world for so many years ~

The song, "Longer" is my husband's and my song. Dan's music was always so soothing and real. We are so sorry to hear of his passing. He will forever be remembered in our hearts. Love ~ Carol & Tim
I grew up listening to Dan and his music will continue to influence me forever. My heartfelt condolences to his wife Jean and his family.
Dan Fogelberg your music, lyrics and concerts have been a very special
euphoria for me in my life. "The Innocent Age" and all your lyrics have helped
me to love, hate and understand the past. Your lyrics have given me some
wonderful inspiration and helped also with grasping the future and "rushing
headlong through the crashing of the days". I cannot thank you enough for
the work you did and at times I reverted to your music for the strength to
understand what passage life was going. The many times I saw your concerts I
would leave with such fulfillment. "And lead to his weary journeys end".
You will now follow the spirit trail.
God Bless Dan Fogelberg and Wife Jean. ~

I am shocked & saddened to hear the news this morning but his music will
live on in all of us. Oh how he touched me with it since I was 14 in the 1970's.
I remember visiting Colorado then & wishing I would meet up with him & we
would live happily ever after:)
I am still going to hold on to that dream when I am stressed!! ~

Dear Jean and other Friends and Loved Ones of Dan,
I was just devastated to learn of Dan's passing. I have been praying for
him since I found out about his cancer diagnosis several years ago. Dan has
been such an inspiration to me for so much of my life. He was truly a kindred
spirit and his music saw me through a lot of tough times in my life. Dan's
music was also a part of the joyous times of my life, including my wedding, 22
years ago. His version of "Since You Asked" was my wedding song. Although I
never met Dan, I always felt, as so many of his fans apparently did, that I
had known him all my life. And I know, by the empty place I feel in my heart
right now, that life will never be quite the same without him. Although his
music will live on, his presence in the world will be sorely missed.
My love and prayers to all who loved him. I grieve with you. ~

Like so many others, the happiest years of my youth were accompanied by
Dan's silky harmonies. No music makes me more nostalgic. Today I've
retrieved my favorite cassettes , Captured Angel and The Innocent Age, from
a shoebox in the closet and playing them, reliving times I haven't visited in
years. I believe that Dan is basking in the love of those who've been
waiting for his arrival. I wonder if he has any awareness, in that
dimension, of this sudden cacophony of songs being played here on earth in
his memory. If so, it must be thunderous. ~ Dee Sharp
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to friends and family. Personally, I
feel that "Same Old Lang Syne" is/was one of the greatest lyrical
songs/story songs ever written. The song evokes a sad but wonderful
feeling every time I listen to it. I will remember him for this and his
many other fine songs. Rest in peace, Dan, your song will forever be a
major piece of my musical tapestry. ~

"I sing to your spirit,
Where all my dreams dwell.
The vision, the freedom.
The life lived so well.
And I sing in your canyons and the echoes ring clear.
And I wish somehow you may still hear".
As a singer/songwriter myself, Dan has been the single greatest influence in my career. For the gift of his music, and "the life lived so well", he will remain forever in my songs. ~

As so many others have noted, Dan Fogelberg's music and passion have been
part of my life for as long as I can remember. So many memories - in 1981
driving from St Louis to Chicago to see Dan in concert, many future concerts
spent at the backstage door hoping for a glimpse or an autograph..the
seminal experience of going into labor with my 16 year-old daughter
immediately at the end of his concert at Merriweather Post Pavillion in
Baltimore. The quality of our lives will have dimmed now that the hope of
new musical expression is forever silenced. My thoughts and prayers to Jean
and the family. Know and take comfort in the multitudes of people whom
Dan's words and music have touched. ~
Susan Topel, Baltimore, MD
The world will not be the same without Dan. He could reach my soul with a song better than anyone else ever could or will. "The Reach" never failed to make me sing along and wish I was on the water, even when I am down. His talent and soul will be missed forever. ~ Rodney Johnson, Lansing, Michigan
My heart is broken. Thanks you for all of the joy and inspiration you
have given my throughout my life. ~Cathy
I was crushed to hear this news. Dan was such a gifted talent.
He will be missed but his music will live on in us all.
That's the one thing a musician leaves behind that is a comfort to the bereaved. ~

To Mrs. Fogelberg, I am sure you know how lucky you were to have met and
fallen in love with him...and he the same. I know you must be suffering
terribly right now, and you both fought very hard to beat this cancer.
I wish you peace in your heart--to know he no longer suffers. I wish you
all happy memories of him. Death cannot take those from you. They are yours
to keep and hold dear.
I'm glad he is no longer suffering. I am very sad that he has left this
earth. I thank God for the lyrics and music I can still enjoy.
Rest in Peace, DF.
I am saddened by the news. Dan Fogelberg's music was the soundtrack to my romance with
my husband over 20 years ago. At the time, it was the only music we could agree upon.
Although I recognize his music is not the secret to our success, I do believe the honesty
of emotions in the lyrics somehow imbued our relationship at its' tentative beginning.
Over the years our musical tastes have grown together, but nothing has the power to make
us feel 18 and in love again like those songs. Truly, madly, deeply.
Dan...Your vibe lives on and will continue to enrich us...thanks for all
the joy.
I just want to add my sincere sympathy to his family. I can't even calculate how
many hours I spent in my youth listening to him and was always blown away by his
incredible talent.
God gave him one of the purest voices I have ever heard, and now today, he is using that pure, undamaged voice once again.
RIP Dan. You will be forever missed. ~

I am so sorry to hear that Dan has passed away. I first met Dan at a kitchen store. He was planning a birthday party for his wife. He was so excited and so in love. He will truly be missed. Mrs. Fogelberg, our prayers are with you.
Dear Jean,
I have just read about Dan's death this morning on the internet. I can't
tell you how this has saddened me. In fact, just this past weekend while
shopping with my husband, I picked up one of Dan's cd's for MY Christmas
stocking!! I have been a huge fan of Dan's ever since the 70's and have many of his
albums. His music has always touched and inspired me. I know every word to
each of his songs and can relate them to different aspects of my life. I did
not know that Dan had been sick and my heart goes out to you. Just wanted
you to know how much his music has meant to me for the last 37 years. I will
keep you in my thoughts and prayers. ~

From when you lived in Nederland to now, you voiced our lives and loves.
My deepest condolences to Dan's family. Dan's music influenced my life in so many ways I can't even tell you. He will always be a huge party of it. Even though I never knew him personally, I feel like I did. Peace to you all.
It would appear that it all has already been expressed-- the deep and wide impact Dan and
his music had on so many people.
I am one day and one year older than Dan -- and a bit more fortunate when my prostate
cancer was caught earlier in the process. Still way too young for us both.
I too love Maine -- and it fitting that he passed away in that great State.
His music will feed my soul for as long as I live - thanks, Daniel, for all the joy and
meaning you brought to us all. ~ Dave D in Austin, Texas
Dearest Jean, Family, Friends and Fans,
I am deeply saddened to hear that Dan lost his battle with cancer. He was a truly remarkable man, singer and songwriter. He will be missed by so many, but his legacy will live on. He was the leader of the band.
To his family and friends, may you find the peace and comfort you will need to carry on, as he would want you to.
With Love and Deepest Sympathy ~
Lorrie Swedenburg
Dear Jean and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Words cannot explain the sense of loss we as
fans feel. Dan has been my favorite artist, musician for 30 years, and I
so looked forward to him returning to tour and make more of that heartfelt
music once again. I will always treasure him music as I'm sure we all will.
He has left us the gift of his music, and for that, I am forever grateful.
Forever a Fan ~
Deb
I have grown with his music from a teenager to a mother now 50 years old. There will never be another musician who touches all aspects of life with such grace, his music will live on in each of us daily. Dan you will be missed but the suffering is over and you are truly free now! "Home Free"! "To The Morning" helped me to rise everyday and start with a fresh heart, peace be with you Dan. Jean, thank you for being at his side and providing such loving care for the man who cared for a country for many years! Our world is a better place because of him! It will be much darker now, his music will resurrect the light.
God Bless.
Love ~ Tammy Billings Vinson
I cannot find the words to express my sorrow after hearing of Dan's passing.
His music has meant so much to me over the past 30 years and I feel that I
have lost a part of myself. My deepest condolences to Jean and all of Dan's
friends and family. May God bless Dan Fogelberg.
Sincerely ~
Tammy H. in Belleville, Illinois
It's funny the things we remember...the little video clips in our brains
that remain vivid. Durango, Colorado - 1975. I was 18 and pulled "Home Free"
from the album racks...then "Souvenirs". And there stood a young girl who
had just fallen in love. Dan...God gave you powerful gifts and you used them
well. Thank you.
