May God bless you and keep you.  It's as simple a hope as that.

Dan brought such joy to countless lives with his heartfelt music. I shall go home later and listen to some of his songs and sob a bit. I know Dan is now at peace and his music and legacy will live on. My sincerest condolences go out to his wife and family during this sad time. Godspeed Dan. ~   Jon Whitney

I was so saddened to hear the heartbreaking news that you've left us. I'll miss seeing you in concert, but I know I'll see you in heaven. A Dan Fan since 1975 ~  Annette

Thoughts and prayers to Jean and the family of Dan Fogelberg.  "I still recall the place..." when Dan's innovative music and powerful, sensitive lyrics began interweaving through the fabric of my life and shaping the way I thought. If one person could put such profound thought into words and music, shouldn't the rest of us be able to offer a fraction of the same goodwill to others. What an inspiring life and incredible legacy! He will live on in all of us.  How proud those of you associated with him must always have been. ~ Paula L. Nerone

I've got Dan's earlier albums and have seen him in concert twice.  Didn't know he had been ill.  So very talented, gifted and young.  My thought are with his friends and family. ~ Andrew Bers

We are so sorry to learn of the loss. Dan was an exceptional talent and will live in our hearts and minds forever. ~ Fred and Nancy Benson, North Carolina

The world has lost one of the most sincere, prolific songwriters and singers of my generation.  His songs have touched me deeply over the years and continue to do so to this day.  His sweet voice and insightful words have brought me so much relief in times of sadness and joy.  My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and please know that I will encourage my husband to get checked as soon as possible.  Dan's life has brought not only joy in his songs but awareness to my family of the need to get a prostate exam. The sun seems a little less bright today, but I will find comfort in listening to "To the Morning" from Dan's Home Free album, which is my personal favorite.  ~ Mickie Kirshner

Your songs have both lifted us up when we needed it and also made us look deep inside to see what is really important to us in the short time we are here on this earth. You were and are a beautiful person who truly had a gift from God and chose to share it with us through your beautiful music. We will never forget you or the musical legacy you have left for us, and the music world will be a much sadder and colder place without you. We love you and know that you are truly free from all pain now. God bless you and you family Dan. ~ Gary Black - Daphne, Alabama

So sorry to hear of Dan's passing and your resulting loss.  As an aside, I sang "Same Old Lang Syne" at a karaoke party last Saturday night and I haven't sung that one in years! I grew up with Dan's music in the 70's and 80's; it's nice to have his songs as part of my life soundtrack. Best wishes ~ Ken Kovacic, Madison, WI

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear this. The song "Same Old Lang Syne" has made me stop whatever I'm doing every time I've heard it through the years. Such a beautiful tribute to past, present, and future in a single simple song. I'm sorry for you Dan, that you didn't stay longer, but happy you had your wife with you as you moved from one plane to another. All the best to your family, so sorry. I'll drink a toast to your innocence and time with us.

None of us came to stay on this world.  We are here, and then we are gone. It is what we do with the time in between birth and death that matters. Dan used his time considerably well.  He touched millions of lives with his musical poetry.  He left an audible legacy that will live on forever.  I do hate to see him go.  But, for him there is peace and no more pain.  May God bless Dan and his family as they struggle to go on without him.  My heart goes out to you.  Blessings. ~  Mary Ann Capps

And flights of angels sing thee to they rest. Through your sadness I hope that you find comfort and pride in the many happy memories and of the knowledge that Dan's extraordinary music will live on and on. He gave us all such a gift and I am so grateful that I can hear him when I need him. God bless your family. ~ Lora Adams

You're still the living legacy Dan. I'm so sorry you had to suffer. ~ Mitch

Rest in peace Dan. Your songs will forever play in my  heart!  Jean, hang on to those memories and photos. ~  Andy Q. in NYC

I remember lying on the floor when I was 9 years old, listening to Nether Lands and reading every word of the lyrics over and over. To this day, it is one of my favorite albums. God truly gave us a gift in Dan and his music. I never got to see him live, which I truly regret. I am so sad to hear of his passing, but know that he will live on in the hearts of his family and his fans. Jean, may you feel peace very soon. ~ Amy Napoli,  Nashville, TN

I will have to send a more eloquent message at a later date. I can't see through my tears and can't think very clearly this morning even though I knew in my heart to expect this day. I expect it for all of us, but I did not want to hear this news of Dan so soon.  Now he will write songs for the angels. I have to go now and cry more tears. ~ LuAnn Pindel

Dear Jean, My deepest condolences to you.  Your husband really did define good music, in an era of disco.  I am sure you and Dan both realized from the wonderful messages here on Living Legacy, that he touched SO many people; deeply and forever.  I pray good luck and Godspeed to you Jean, and to Dan -- Soar On Eagle's Wings. You will be greatly missed! ~ John Anderson, Fort Myers, FL

What a shame. So very sad to hear of Dan's passing. I saw his last concert in Denver on 4 July 2003 at the Paramount and his last concert at Red Rocks on 26 June 2002. Over the years I must have seen him a dozen times. He never disappointed. Although best known for his ballads his best work hardly ever gets any airplay. If you're even a casual fan do yourself a favor and get all of his work and listen to it, over and over again. My many thanks to you for such a fine body of work and the joy and happiness you've brought me throughout the years. Requiscat in Pace, Daniel Grayling Fogelberg. ~  Gregory Burcher,  Denver

My sincere condolences to Dan's family and friends.  The world loses a greatly inspired writer, singer and person.  The whole world should mourn this loss!   Sincerely ~ Paula W

My deepest and sincerest sympathies to the Fogelberg family.   I grew up listing to Dan's music and have every one of his albums, now on CD's.  He was the greatest singer and songwriter of our time and will be missed dearly!  ~ Dorie a very loyal fan!

I was extremely saddened today when I learned of Dan's passing away. His music has been part of my life for most of my life. So many memories come to mind when I hear one of his songs. May God be with Jean and his entire family during this most difficult time. Thank you Dan for the legacy of music you have left for all of us to enjoy. You will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace.

Dan, your talent touched so many lives and your music will live on forever.  May you find peace.  You will never be forgotten. God bless ~ Jennifer

It seems incredibly unfair that someone who championed the environment with as much passion as Dan did was stricken with the disease that is primarily caused by the proliferation of toxic chemicals in everything around us. Dan's music has been a meaningful part of my life for over thirty years, and his unnecessary passing breaks my heart. In his memory, I pledge to be more pro-active in protecting our environment and preventing these tragedies. His voice may have been silenced, but his music will live on...

Rest in peace, Dan. My condolences to the family. I also have been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and my surgery/treatments start in January. Dan was a favorite of mine during the 70's and 80's with my record collection showing proof. I listen to an "oldies" station and always turn up his music when it comes on. Thanks, Dan for the lyrics and music which always hit the right note with me. ~ Mike Pearson, Smyrna, DE

When I met my girlfriend, (now my wife of 28 years) Home Free was the LP that we played again and again as we fell in love. I have been a fan forever. Dan's concerts were some of the best times I can remember. At open mic this Wednesday, I'll play a few of his songs and celebrate his music. Sleep in heavenly peace... ~  Tom Sullivan

Goodbye Dan, For over 30 years you've given me music, thoughts, feelings and memories. These will stay with me until its my turn to go. Wherever your journey now takes you I wish you peace and contentment. ~ Derek

Dan's music has been an inspiration for me during good and not so good times. I feel blessed to have been at many of his concerts.  Heartfelt condolences to his family.  I know he is singing with the angels. ~ Susan Rockefeller

How saddened I am over such a great loss. I have just recently undergone prostate cancer surgery in Maine, and know of the fears Dan went through since 2004.  Your songs will live on, especially as I return to a place we both have loved so much. ~ Joel

Dear Dan: Thank you!

May I express my sadness and condolences on your loss.  Dan was a unique, talented artist and individual that gave me pleasure for over 30 years. The universe has a huge hole in it today!  Thank you Dan for all you gave us.

The world lost a great talent yesterday.  Dan Fogelberg wrote some of the most sensitive, beautiful music the world has known.  During the creative gold rush of the seventies, his music was the voice of a generation.  Thanks, Dan, for your unspeakable gift.  Thanks even more for daring to be who you were.  I'm inspired by the life you lived.  Inspired by your connection with nature.  Inspired by your following of your dream.  I will get your music out now, will listen to it again, will let it roll over me like water from a mountain stream.  And I will be moved, again.  In that way, you will be with us, all of us who will listen and remember
.

All I can think of is where ever he is they are lucky to have him. I try not to feel he was taken away, but given to us for a time. What a wonderful gift to us all. What a wonderful gift of music he left behind.  ~ Jeannie in Tucson, a loving fan since I first heard "To the Morning" in 1974.

I was deeply saddened when I heard that Dan has left us.  I know he has not left us but is still there in his music. His music has lifted me up when I was down and inspired me to play the guitar.  I listened to his music when I was growing up in some rough times.  He will be missed by all who have heard his music.  He was an inspiration to me. May blessings be bestowed up Dan and the family he left behind. ~ Pierre Escuriex

Dear Dan, Just the other day I brought our your Christmas album. It's one of the few I listen to at this time of the season.  You've changed our lives in so many ways.  My wife of 27 years and I remember "Longer" as our Wedding Song.  God bless you Dan for all the souls you touched and for the magnificent legacy you have left for generations to come. ~ jim

Dan, your music helped me during a tough period in my younger days. It allowed me to finally cry. Just what I needed to move forward. You are surely in "gods loving care" now. Thank you for your spirit, your strength and most of all for the "Souvenirs". I will cherish them forever! With my condolences. ~ E.C.

I knew this day would come as it will for all of us...but somehow I am both shocked and saddened at the passing of THE living legacy. My condolences to Jean and all his friends and family whose hearts are heavy on this day. God Bless you all and forever Rest In Peace Dan. ~ Greg from Milwaukee

I sang with Dan and Elliott Delman in Champaign and have been an admirer of him since, and will sing his songs until my life is also over. A beautiful soul, a creative mind, truly a gift from God to brighten each of us. ~ Lee

How blessed we all are to have received the love of Dan's music. He will surely be missed, but will always live on in our hearts. Today, I will play Dan's music and be thankful. He wrote the soundtrack to my tender years. I'll never forget the night, after a concert, I met and spoke to Dan. He was kind and gracious.  ~ Vi from California

"Between the worlds of men and make-believe I can be found"  - "Scarecrow's Dream"

Dan Fogelberg was and is my single biggest musical influence.   Hearing news of his passing this morning made my heart sink like losing a member of my own family.  His gift of music and lyrics had an immeasurable influence on my life and career.  I too am a singer-songwriter and composer, and it is largely because of Dan's influence.   His music connected with my heart in a way that no one else's really had, before or since.   I never got to see him in concert, but I do own most everything he ever released.

It seems like I am grasping for words here and I really am, because I am stunned at the news this morning.  When you grow up with a person and their work has such a profound influence on you, it's difficult to say the least to deal with it.   I sympathize and resonate with all of his other fans the world over, and add my voice to the chorus paying tribute to this man and his work.  My prayers are with Dan's family and close friends.  Thank you Dan for your music and your voice. To quote another songwriter - Don McLean - "this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you". God bless ~ Ryan Sheeler, Ames IA

I feel as if I have lost a dear friend. His music was such a big part of my growing up.  To this day I still reach for his old familiar tunes for comfort, smiles and memories. Thank you for your talent Dan. You will live on for generations in your music. ~ D.P. Georgia

I have a VERY heavy heart right now. I am a younger fan, my sister had me hooked in the 80's.  Thank God for CD's we will always be able to hear you.  I have been donating to the cancer society for years. I have quite a few family members that have all kinds, I just wish now that it could've been more help for Dan. My condolences are with you Jean. Thank you Dan for such a powerful contribution to the world!! ~ Chris

All my thoughts and prayers go to Dan's family.  His passing is a true loss to the world of music.  The beautiful lyrics and melodies of his songs will live on forever.  Thank you, Dan, for that great gift.  I will miss you. ~ Carol Davis, Peachtree City, GA

It is with great sadness that I learned of the loss of Dan Fogelberg. His music will be remembered and treasured forever. The depths of his song lyrics and their profound meaning give added tribute to the great man and songwriter that Dan was.  As tragic and premature as this loss is we are comforted by the fact that Dan Fogelberg now lives forever in a much greater place.

Jesus cried out and said "whoever believes in me believes not only in me but also in the one who sent me and whoever sees me sees the one that sent me. I came into the world as light, so that everyone who believes in me might not remain in darkness" John 12: 44-46. With Deepest Sympathy ~ Mark Amoroso

Dear Mrs. Fogelberg and Family, Please accept my deepest condolences in the passing of Dan.  I grew up in Montreal, Canada and was a big fan of Dan and his music.  His songs hit a chord with me during my high school years, and continue to do so.  His songs are snapshots of different periods of my life.  They are inspirational and a way of life.  He will be sorely missed, but his music will live of forever.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Sincerely ~ Perry Lea, Naperville, Illinois

I was saddened and shocked to hear about his passing. His legacy will live on though,  and we will continue to listen to his mellow, rich voice for many years to come. I pray that God keep his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult, yet bittersweet time. God Bless.

One of my very best and oldest friend's Sally, turned me on to Dan with the "Captured Angel" in 1975. I became a fan instantly. His songs have always brought me to a better place. Sally died 2 yrs ago with ovarian cancer. We had been friends since we were 12. I still feel close to her when I listen to those songs. I thank Dan for that. I'm sending you heartfelt thoughts of support and peace and thank you for sharing him with us. Sincerely ~ Rebecca Booth

I have pictures of Dan in my office. I have every album he ever did and I was just listening to his Christmas album when my husband called and told me about Dan's death.  It is deep sadness today that I feel today.  He was a intricate part of my every day life.  From 1971 until today.  I have seen this man so many times in concert that I cannot count.  I loved his music and his lyrics and more importantly his guitar playing and piano playing.  He will be missed by me, my husband and my three sons, who are grown men now themselves. I want to express my condolences to his beautiful wife Jean whom he loved dearly.  Just know that Dan is now in good company with our Lord and other Musicians, that have gone before him.  They needed the likes of Dan Fogelberg within their realm, so it should be a musical love fest for him in heaven! Your devoted fan ~ Marion MacDonald, Harrisburg, PA

No musician has touched my life more than Dan. His Music...His Words. Since 1977 I have not missed one of his concerts in St. Louis.  I own every album he every recorded and can play almost any of his songs.  My most memorable moment was the day his limo had me blocked in at the Fox and he came out and shook my hand.  I stumbled over my words like a giddy middle schooler wanting to tell him how much I adored his music.  I am an ardent fan and will continue to honor his legend  by sharing with the next generation the spirit of his music!!! ~ Denise M. Dolan,  St. Louis, MO

The lives we live, and the way we live them, affect many others during the years we are on this earth.  A person and musician of Dan Fogelberg's stature will continue to touch endless numbers of souls long after his passing.  He was an excellent example of what it means to "give back what is so freely given to us".  I began listening to Dan's music many, many years ago.  It was instrumental (not to make a pun) in bringing me back from a devastating bout of depression that almost ended my life.  How many others have shared a deeply moving experience listening to his music? Thank you Dan for bringing to the world your extraordinary gifts.  My deepest condolences go out to his wife, Jean, as well as his family and friends.  I cannot imagine the sadness you must feel at his death.  I do know that it brings a great loss to the world.  I hope that some comfort will come from knowing he has saved countless lives by raising the awareness of the necessity for testing for prostate cancer.  That in itself is a living legacy.  Sincerely ~ Nancy Baker, Denzil, Saskatchewan, Canada

Your music has resonated throughout time and touched the very depths of our souls.  A great musician, songwriter, and man will be greatly missed.  We will forever hear your words and music as "whispers on the wind."  ~
Mary Howard, Green Valley, Arizona

"Longer" than I can remember, Fogelberg's music has been inspirational to my life outlook and growth.  His music touched many chords in life and reached out to millions. He contributed every fiber of talent he had and gave us all an extraordinary gift.  His music and family are his loving legacy, timeless. Hopes and wishes that his family will find comfort in what he gave this world and how much, how very important it was, will continue to be. And he is surely a heavenly angel, playing with one incredible band!

I had no idea Dan had cancer. I usually just enjoy the music of the many but saw the news on the CNN website. How very sad such a talented, good person of this world is gone.  I loved Dan's music and now he is serenading all in Heaven.  God Bless Dan and his family.  May God bring comfort and peace to your hearts. ~ Shelly

Thank you Dan, for giving the world your beautiful gift of music. I'll always remember your songs, your words and your messages. Vince Gill wrote and sang this for his dad. " Oh, how we cried the day you left us, we gathered round your grave to grieve. I wish I could see the angels' faces when they hear your sweet voice sing." ~ Nancy LaRoche Crystal

As so many millions must be feeling now, I am saddened at the passing of a wonderful soul.  Dan touched my heart  through his music and words. He made the world a better place to be.  No man can ask for a better eulogy than that. My hope for Dan is that he is now sitting with his dad, catching up on lost time, talking about family and music. Thanks for the opportunity to express my sorrow.  My heart goes out to all who feel the same.  Ease your grief with the knowledge that Dan is no longer in pain.  He has found the ultimate peace that all our souls long for, in that beautiful place that he helped us to glimpse while he was with us.

Godspeed, Dan.  Thank you for sharing yourself with us, and for all the sublime music that sprang from within you.  I look forward to meeting you one day. ~ Scott Paulson, Huntsville, Alabama

From 1973 on, his music changed me. His trail of footprints is permanent. ~ Mary

"...and he gave to me a gift I know I never can repay...." Thank you Dan for giving me the gift of your music. Rest in Peace Dan. ~ Paul - Downingtown, Pa

Jean & Family - I can't express the sadness I'm feeling, having just learned of Dan's passing. He's been a big part of my musical being since he first hit the scene. I was privileged to see him in concert 3 times over 3 decades and always wished I could have seen him more. His music is always being either listened to, played or thought of. It's surprising how a lyric will pop to mind in just day to day activity. He will always have a place in my heart and mind and music repertoire. Although he's gone too soon, his music will forever stand the test of time and be loved by all who hear it. My deepest sympathy for your loss, Jean. ~ Bryce - Lifetime member of the Fogelberg Cult & CO Native living in PA.

I'll never forget the first time I saw Dan perform. It was a summer night, outdoors, and he opened the concert alone on a grand piano, singing "Nether Lands". I sat there, barely able to breathe from the sheer beauty of it. Thanks for making me feel that way, Dan. Courage and strength and peace to you, Jean. ~ Jamie

Dan set the soundtrack to my life as I was coming of age. Almost every song is linked to a special memory. Like most of his fans, I'm sure, I felt as if he'd written them for me. I am grateful for the gift of Dan Fogelberg ~ Gray Smith

Wow, I didn't know, but I encourage everyone to look at Dan's body of work. So many great songs were seldom played on the radio. Dan thanks for The Innocent Age most of all. Heard the album a million times and always found something new. Jean, best wishes, glad he found you in the end. ~Scott

My deepest sympathies to Dan's family on his passing.  I had the pleasure of enjoying Dan's music over the years and was lucky to see him twice in concert.  Dan was a true poet and consummate musician who wrote and played with warmth and sensitivity.  We will miss him but his spirit lives on in his music, which has touched so many and will continue to be discovered by new fans for generations to come. God Bless ~ John

Jean, My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.  In 1994 my husband was killed in a plane crash.  I played "Longer" at his funeral and I am sure you will find even more comfort in these words than I.  Dan's gift of music to us all will be an everlasting legacy as will your love for him.  May your family become a bridge towards healing.  The angels will truly be singing now. ~ Anne

There is nothing I can add that hasn't been said already about how much Dan's music meant to so many of us or how saddened we are to learn of his passing. One thing I remember about him that made me realize what a cool guy he was. First, I absolutely fell in love with The Innocent Age and sometime later a buddy of mine offered up some tickets to Dan's show, so I nabbed them. Only once I got there did I find out it was a solo acoustic concert and I was instantly and totally bummed out that I wouldn't hear those songs I loved so much with a full band. Boy, was I ever wrong!  Throughout his performance, he went from a six string guitar, to a 12 string, and then a grand piano and he just bowled us over again and again with his songs in their purist form. They should have called it The Goosebump Tour! But here's the real kicker. That night our hometown baseball team, The St. Louis Cardinals just happened to be playing in The "I-70" World Series against The Kansas City Royals just down the street at Busch Stadium. Dan was openly humbled and outwardly thankful that we would put aside such an important night of America's favorite past time to come listen to one guy and his tunes. What's more, he kept giving us updates as to the score of the game! We cheered the entire evening- For the music, for the team, but mostly just for Dan. Peace, prayers, and many thanks to you, Jean. ~ James Montgomery, St. Louis Mo.

Such sad, sad news.  I pray for his family and friends and all that were close to him.  I remember going to a Dan Concert at the Universal Amphitheater when it was open .. under the stars and so wonderful!  It was one of the favorite things I did back then .. can't even remember when it was (1976 or 1977). So sweet.  I still have my records and I still quote from his music. Be well. We will miss him. ~ Evangelina Rubalcava-Joyce

God speed, my friend! The music may have left here, but it will now be beautiful with angels! ~ chef jackson, texas

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.  What a talented artist! ~ Jen-Omaha

We here at the 1 in 8 Foundation were so sorry to learn about Dan's passing today. We would hloved to have him on our board as our mission is to stop cancer in its tracks. As a cancer survivor myself I send our love and prayers. Sincerely ~ Ken Vrana, CEO

To the Fogelberg Family, My heart was truly saddened to hear the news of Dan's passing. I grew up in the era when Dan's music was such a big part of my life. He will be missed in so many ways, but we are blessed to have had such a musical talent in our lives. My prayers are with you Jean. ~ Steve Minor, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

An old musician friend of mine once told me, "The great ones write their own lyrics, compose their own music, and can sing while playing an instrument before live audiences".  I first saw Dan Fogelberg in the mid seventies.  I was one of 45,000 people at Rich stadium in Buffalo, New York excited to see the Eagles.  As I chatted with friends, I barely noticed the intro for some guy in jeans and a flannel shirt who walked out on stage and sat down with his acoustic guitar.  A few minutes into the first song ("As The Raven Flies") I remember thinking to myself, "Eagles Schmeagles, WHO is this guy and where has he been hiding?"  Of course, like all of you reading this, I have been mesmerized ever since.  In today's world of violent rap, meaningless lyrics, and talent less performers, we have truly lost a national treasure with the passing of Dan Fogelberg.  He has been, and always will be, my favorite performer of all time. Ever on Dan......ever on. ~  Don B.  New York.

My heart is breaking at this news.  I had just checked the website a  few days ago to see if there were any updates.  Dan, your music echoes  through so many lives, and touches those lives like few artists have ever  done.  Still so young, I feel like we were robbed, yet I know you have  bequeathed to us a gift that can not be valued, for your music and words, and  the meaning in those words, are priceless.  Rest in peace, dearest Dan, and  Jean, may your memories of the years with your husband sustain you.  You  will be in our hearts...both of you...for always. Love ~ Michele Lee

Dan's music has been a sort of soundtrack for my life, in a way.  So many of Dan's songs are the ones I turn to in time of need.  "Part of the Plan" and "Magic Every Moment", in particular, never fail to lift my spirits.  Best wishes to all of Dan's family and friends. ~ Rob Waters, Long Island, NY

My deepest sympathy to Dan's wife and family.  His music helped me through so many bad times and several hospitalizations.  I'd put his music on and somehow things seemed better. I love his music! He was even better in concert. Based on his music I can only imagine what a wonderful man he was.  I'm sure those who knew him best are feeling a great loss, I know I am. ~ Monica, Pittsburgh, PA

Dan - YOU gave us a gift that can never be repaid.  Our thanks to YOU for sharing of yourself and your music.  To Jean--may your fond memories of your life with Dan warm your heart forever and keep you in good stead.  Sincerely ~ Dena (Clearwater, FL)

My condolences to Dan's wife, Jean, and his entire family.  My friendship with Dan started 40 years ago at the start of his career.  Then he was in the band the "Coachmen" in Peoria, Il., while we were still in high school. Even then he played his music from his heart which is why it captivated his fans and he soared to fame.  He will be missed by many but remembered by all. God bless you and give you strength.  ~Kathy - Peoria, IL.

I pray God's blessings on Dan's family and friends.   His music was the soundtrack to an important part of my life. I'll never remember my college days and the early days of my adult years without remembering his music.  He was so talented.  I am so sorry for the loss to those who knew and loved him.

Please take comfort in knowing that Dan was the rarest of human beings. Heart, soul and talent and the gift to make all of us feel happy and free. ~ Eric

How beautiful the choirs in heaven will sound with the presence of Dan Fogelberg.  My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family and his fans.  His spirit and music will live on forever.  My husband and I had the pleasure of seeing Dan in concert in Atlanta at Chastain Park for many years and will cherish those memories for the rest of our lives. Dan, rest peacefully knowing that you have touched many, many lives with your music.  Jean, many hugs to you.  ~ Tom, Linda and RJ Casey -  Jasper, Georgia

I was so sad to hear that Dan had passed away. My first date with my future husband was his concert in St. Louis. I have been married for 21 years, and our special song at our wedding was "Longer".  I loved his music - he will be missed. ~ Gwen Rubin

Dan, you brought peace to the world through your lyrics and music. You  are a true poet. Your songs will live forever and so will you. To a  friend I never knew from a fan you always had. ~ Bob O

I am so saddened to hear the news of Dan's passing.  His music was such a big part of my life from his very 1st album to his last.  I just can't believe it!  I saw Dan in concert in 1982 at the New Haven Coliseum with 2 of my sisters; we were singing along with him, screaming and crying all at the same time.  It was a wonderful memory!  I am going to play all his albums (I have every one of them) this week and keep his music alive in my heart.  There is no one that can be compared to him.  There will never be another Dan Fogelberg. Sincerely ~ Donna, Milford, CT

It feels as if I lost my best friend.  Dan's music helped me through my radiation treatment for breast cancer three years ago.  All the technicians enjoyed his music, also.  It was the best medicine.  This is truly the day the music died. ~ Donna Gatlin

God Bless you Jean and Dan's Family. Please know he is in all of our hearts too and we will never forget him. Make beautiful music in the heavens, Dan! We will see you again.

Peace to you, brother, as you make your passage into the realm of our Lord Jesus.  This day you have been restored to perfection, and depart on a journey to Heaven where we will once again be graced by your voice and your soul.  To Dan's family, I pray that your faith stays strong, and that the peace and grace of our Lord comfort you each day.  ~ Brian - Colorado Springs.

It is with great sadness that I hear of the passing of Dan. I wish to offer my most heartfelt condolences to his wife, Jean. His music will live on as a Living Legacy. ~ Roy Evans, Lynchburg, Va.

Greetings to the Family of Dan Fogelberg: My deepest thoughts, prayers, and sympathies go out to you. Dan's music touched my life in many ways as a college and seminary student. His gift will not be forgotten. As a prostate cancer survivor of nearly two years, I "preach" the same sermon Dan has. My journey began with a DRE from my local physician who astutely detected something worth further examination, and ended with robotic surgery at the University of Michigan. While my story has ended differently, please know that Dan's legacy will go on to help many more. May God's peace and presence be with you in this difficult time. Peace ~ Pastor Ted D. Kerr III, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Ida, MI

I grew up listening to the sounds of Dan Fogelberg, and was sad to hear that such a legendary voice was silenced yesterday.  My condolences to his wife Jean. Sincerely ~ Scarlet Artruc

My deepest thoughts and condolences to all who had the honor and privilege of being in Dan's close circle of 'family.'  I only knew him by his music and am feeling such a deep loss. I will always remember where I was when I heard the news of his passing.  I'm sure it'll be communicated countless times in the next few days, but his music touched me in a way that was almost like he knew what I was feeling and thinking.  I will miss knowing he's sharing the earth with the rest of us. ~ Pam

My heart is broken just like so many others today.  I grew up on Dan's music and my now grown children are also big fans. My whole family's thoughts and prayers are with Jean and the rest of their family in this sad time. I so wish there was more that we could do.  Just know that everyone here sends their love and feels your pain. ~ K.M.  Gloucester, VA

The news of Dan's passing caught me off guard this morning. I didn't know he was battling cancer.  My prayers and sympathy go out to his family. He was an amazing singer/songwriter. I saw him perform live once, in Central Park in the late 70's.  I wore out my Captured Angel album when I was a teenager.. His lyrics touched my life.  Thank you Dan...may you rest in peace forever. ~ Maryanne

I am shocked and heartbroken. This was not the news I wanted to get this morning when I checked my email. Tears fill my eyes because a part of me is gone. Dan Fogelberg’s music played a huge part of my early life, those formidable teen years.  His music and his words moved me, touched me deeply – helped form me to become who I am today. I just wanted to see him perform live one more time but that will have to wait until I enter through the pearly gates of heaven, too. Cindy – say hi to Dan for me and sing our song together…..”and on a windy coast….I made several toasts to you and me and the sea….and no one heard….” Sincere condolences to Dan’s family and all of his fans. ~ Becky M., Cocoa Beach, FL

I am very sad to hear the news of Dan's passing. Dan, his wife and family have all been in my thoughts and prayers since I first heard of Dan's diagnosis with cancer. I was married on June 30th of this year for the first time at age 49 and Dan's song "A Love Like This" was the song we choose for our first dance. Dan's songs will forever be with me. God bless him and his family. ~ Denise Marsh - Parker, Colorado

To the family and friends of Dan Fogelberg, Dan not only brought the most beautiful music into our hearts, he gave hope in the midst of tragedy.  Several in my family are facing a cancer diagnosis this Christmas, and his example of sharing his legacy gives us courage.  The issue is not physical life, but inspiring meaning as we go throughout our lives.  He did that with of his soul, and for that we are all blessed beyond words. I pray that the Spirit that gives us all breath, life, and music will embrace you and gently comfort you during this time of sorrow,  and that
Dan's gifts will light our way always. ~ Deb Sponable
