I am truly sorry that Mr. Fogelberg died so young. He had so many
promising years ahead of him. My father too died of prostate cancer, so
I know the pain he went through. I extend my condolences to the family.
He will be greatly missed. ~
Michele Weiss
Dan's music will always be loved and remembered. Prayers are with his family as their hearts heal. May God bless you for sharing Dan with us.

This is truly the day the music died. ~ Thomas B. Wiggers
My heart aches for the loss of Dan. I was stunned when I saw the news of
his death and I immediately started playing his music and cried. He has given
me the background music to much of my life. I have truly loved every
song he ever has sang. I will always keep the words "there's magic every
moment, there's a miracle each day" in my heart. I will miss you Dan
Fogelberg. My deepest sympathies go out to you Jean and all who knew and loved
him.
The world is a better place because of you. Rest now. ~ The Flynns
You were a great musician and you will be sorely missed. ~
Jerald Dixon
Dan was one of the most amazing musicians I have ever heard. I was only lucky enough to see him in concert once, in the 70's, which I will never forget. Unlike many songwriters/musicians, Dan's songs made you feel. He wrote from the heart and it showed.
We will miss you Dan, but thank you so very, very much for remaining with us forever through your music.
Many, many blessings to Jean and friends. Jean, you know that there are many fans that loved Dan. Please look upon all of us as the strength to help you through. We are all here for you. Please all that read this, take a few minutes to send strong, positive thoughts to Jean.
Be in Peace, Dan, we all love you, and we will all join you someday and will be ready to hear some great new songs from you then. So, play on, we'll see you soon.
Much love to Jean ~ Tammy
Dan was the greatest, had the largest crush on him when I was 16, in the
70's. I have every album he ever made. Completely magical !! He will
be missed, God Bless his wife and family. ~
Carol J. Flory
How I love to play and sing all of your songs, Dan. I will always
treasure your music and miss you dearly. To Jean, you are in my
thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. May you find peace and
comfort in the knowledge that so many are thinking of you at this time. ~
Mike - St. Louis
Dear Dan & Jean,
I cannot express my sympathy in words. I have loved Dan's music for most of my life and have thought of him as an inspiration in my life. I know that you will be missed so very much by your fans and especially your wife, Jean. I am so glad that you had her with you to help you through this terrible fight with cancer along with all your fans. I can relate to this terrible cancer that hits a lot of people because it took my Mother from me at the early age of 61. I miss her so much and know how much you will be missed also. My thoughts and prayers will be with you both.
I have loved you and your music for so long and will miss you terribly. I know that you are going to a much better place than here on earth.
Good by my friend. Love. ~ Dianne
My life was touched by the music of Dan Fogelberg. May his spirit soar and
may he forever find peace and love. He has left a legacy in his music and I
am so grateful for his life.
To his wife and family: May you be comforted by the knowledge that Dan
touched so many people in such a positive way. He lived his dream of creating
beautiful music and he was such a gift. Thank you for sharing this wonderful
person. You are in my prayers. God bless. ~ Cathie
I grew up to Dan's music, and it was his records I put on the stereo when I
was fighting with some great teenager decision making! Souvenirs got me through
much. I moved from WI to CO soon after high school much because of his
Nether Lands album (plus I'm a skier). I ended in up in Albuquerque, and I even found my
way to Wolf Creek, which is now my favorite place (and he has music about
that, too). I regret never seeing him play at the high school in Pagosa. I did,
however, see one of his fabulous performances at Telluride. I feel like Dan was
a kindred spirit and I will surely miss him, but he will live on in my house
where I still play all the old albums.
My condolences to you. I know he is still here with all of us in spirit. ~

Dan:
I just read about your death this morning. This is a very sad day for everyone who
enjoys music, which is just about everyone. Your work deeply touched me during my
formative years in the 70's and I still listen to your music on a weekly basis. The
emotions that are spread throughout your music touched the same nerves in me which helped
me to get in touch with them as a young man. Thank you for your music and I hope you are
at peace with god. Sincerely ~ Dave
My prayers go out to Jean and all of Dan's family. He will be truly
missed. His music has always been such a big part of my life. The
Angels are in for such a treat.
Sincerely. ~
Connie B.
Yesterday the music did die. Dan's music was with me during the best of
times and the worst of times. It kept me going when I didn't think I could
go on, but did. While I never met Dan, I felt I knew him through his music.
It is a sad day for sure, but his music will keep his memory alive.
My condolence goes out to his family for his music touched a lot of people
in a positive way. Not many individuals have that positive of an impact on
others, Dan's music did.
I was able to experience his music live at least 3 times in concert; they
remain the best concerts I have ever attended.
He will be missed. ~

As so many others have expressed on the Living Legacy page, Dan was an
inspiration in my life as well in as my husband's. His music has been a "backdrop" to our lives. We have both quoted lines from many of his
songs in everyday conversation. In our collection of vinyl LP's,
cassettes, DVD's, and CD's, we have most of Dan's albums, from Home
Free to Full Circle. When I heard of his passing, I broke down and
cried. I only had the opportunity to see him in concert once, in
Louisville, Ky. in the early 90's, but I was hoping to be able to see
him perform again. I heard a few years ago about the prostate cancer,
and I was praying that he would beat the odds. My thoughts and prayers
are with his wife, Jean, and his other family and friends. "ever on"
Dan. ~ Jean S. - Louisville, Ky.
Dan and his music were there for me and my first love. His words touched
my heart and soul and for that I am forever grateful. As long as I live,
the memory of falling in love with Mary and the integral part Dan's music
played in that relationship will be one of the most precious of my life.
Thank you Dan. May you rest in peace and may God bless and hold your
family. ~
Brent
Love and prayers to Dan's family.
He left us love in his music and for that I am eternally grateful.
He will never be forgotten.
With love. ~

Dear Family and Friends of Dan,
I am so deeply saddened to hear about Dan's passing. The loss is greater for you, but just know that his fans are feeling a loss as well. He brought so much joy and inspiration with his musical talent and we are lucky he shared it with all of us. He was an original and will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. ~ Dayna Behrmann
I always loved the songs of Dan Fogelberg. He had an amazing melodic, beautiful voice and
wrote wonderful songs. What a loss for the world. I am so sorry for his wife, Jean. At
least we will all have his music always. He died on my birthday. I just turned 57. It
makes me realize I should never ever take anything for granted. Thank you , Dan Fogelberg
for making my life more pleasant with your music.

Growing up in the 70's, Dan was a great influence on my music preferences. His albums will be forever in my collection and I hope my children will keep them to listen to with my grandchildren. The media has mentioned certain songs that he's well known for, but true fans will always love all the songs he composed. My favorite album is and will always be Captured Angel. I am very saddened by the announcement of his death. I wish his family peace and my sincerest sympathy. God Bless Dan Fogelberg. ~ Randy Fry -Tiffin, OH
I am so very saddened to learn of Dan Fogelberg's passing. His music has meant
so much to me. My sincerest condolences to his wife and family. ~

Farewell, Dan Fogelberg, and thank you for your music which will live on
forever. You hold a very special place in our hearts. God Bless. ~ Ken & Kim
All around the world, people are playing their MP3's, cd's, cassettes, 8-tracks,
and
vinyl, whatever technology they have, and listening to their favorite Dan Fogelberg
songs. I have collected them all, over the past 30 years and can sing every word to
every song. Through countless road trips, dorm rooms, first apartment, first job,
boyfriends, weddings, babies, funerals, Dan was with me. I know his family will miss
him, while I will miss his talent and future songs, but we have the comfort of his body
of work. Heaven has the comfort of his joyous voice this Christmas. Good-bye, Dan and
Thank-you!
It is hard to write through the tears that the "Leader of the Band" is
no
longer here. His pain is over, for his family the grief has just begun. For
Jean, I pray you are surrounded by love and support to help lift you up
through this road ahead.
Dan sang me to sleep every night and helped me learn to drive a car as he
came through the radio. He was a voice of calm and reassurance that
everything would be O.K. and that I would survive puberty! Now at 44 years
of age with children of my own he brings back the nostalgia of what
wonderful times growing up listening to him were. ~
Martha Sue Smith
I worked in the Canadian music industry for almost thirty years, dealing
with some of the greatest singers and songwriters of our generation, and
none touched me as personally as Dan Fogelberg. His sensitivity,
artistry and humility were beyond reproach, and I thank goodness that
Dan left such an incredible legacy for us all to carry forward. My
heartfelt condolences to family, friends and fans and a simple 'thank
you' to the spirit that remains. ~ Kevin Shea
May God bless you Jean during your time of bereavement. I just heard
the news about Dan this morning and was deeply saddened. I have always
loved his music and it has given me so much pleasure throughout the
years. Again, God bless and take care. ~ Nina Buffington
Your loss is a sad news. We love you. Your music will live forever to bright our days.
You will remain in our hearts always. May God give you peace ~ Karima
Every father should have a son who honored his life such as Dan did with "Leader of the Band". When my own Dad passed 12 years ago, I modeled my eulogy for his funeral on Dan's song.
Now Dan is gone and it would be fitting if some musician could devote his talent to memorializing him and his work.
Rest in peace, Dan. Your ordeal is over and, as you wrote about your father, your music will continue on through the years. ~ Darrell G. Holmquist - New Lenox, Illinois
It saddens me to hear of the death of Dan. I have enjoyed his music for many
years and in fact have most of his albums in my record collection. He truly
brought a relaxed feeling to a very often noisy and chaotic rock scene. You will
be missed, but your music will live on. My prayers and thoughts go out to you
and your family and friends.
Sincerely ~
Bob Craig
Dan, you were more than a singer, more than a songwriter, more than a
poet. Your soul and spirit will continue to live through all of us who
listened to your beautiful creations and heard your message. We will
listen again and again, and always keep you and hold you in our
memories. May God bless you and grant your loved ones comfort in
knowing that you are now at peace. ~
Bob Eaton, Watkinsville, Ga
I started listening to Dan's music in the mid-70's. While in college, his
wonderful lyrics and soothing sounds were a huge help to me while studying.
Further, his lyrics spoke volumes to me and continue to do so today. My
college career was full of challenges and joys but his "album" (sounds like
such an ancient term) Nether Lands had a song which has impacted my life to
this very minute. Matter of fact, when my wife told me the news of Dan's
passing as I was leaving the house, those words immediately came to my
mind. And for me, at that instant "the snow turned into rain".
My wife has been a teacher for many years. We have had the joy of having
students who were and continue to be very close to us and our family. Plus,
we have had two children graduate from high school and will soon graduate
from college. For EVERY one of the students who sent us an invitation to
help them celebrate this moment in their lives . I have printed off the last
lines from "Nether Lands". From "Once in a .. to the end of the song. Those
words inspired me as I fought mighty demons in college and they gave me
incredible solace in my life.
The loss of Dan Fogelberg's talent and music is a huge loss to our world. But wouldn't you like to hear that "Heavenly Choir" now?? What a glorious
sound his voice will add to it.
God bless Dan Fogelberg and thank you so dearly for the wonder and joy you
brought to my life, and will continue to bring as I play and replay my
cassettes and CD's.
Many, many thanks more than my words can express. ~

Thank you.
My heart is aching and tears flowing freely at the news of the passing of a
man, a musician, a friend I had never met, that impacted my life many years
ago. As a teenager I was, as most teens are, quiet, introverted and
sometimes confused about who I was and how I fit into this world.
The very first "album" I ever purchased was Dan Fogelberg's Home Free. I
wore out the album and my family's sanity by playing it over and over
because it gave me such a peace and contentment in a difficult times.
Souvenirs is my all time favorite with many memories made as I listened to
the music.
I can honestly say listening to the music of Dan Fogelberg impacted my life
in so many positive ways and the memories have been relived many times as I
hear a song on the radio or break out the CD's when the mood strikes.
Thank you for sharing your musical gifts with all of us for so many years.
My thoughts and prayers to the family ~

Just heard the news this morning from my dad. I feel like I have lost a close family member. Listening to Dan back in my troubled teenage years right
up
to now. I'm 49 and still love the music of a very talented man. I will miss
the "new" music that will never be. I will miss waiting for a new album that
will never come. I will miss the man that moved me through his beautiful
lyrics, music and voice. Condolences to his wife and family. ~ Denise Snyder
My family's deepest sympathies to Mr. Fogelberg's family. I was quite saddened to hear the news of his passing this morning. What a wonderful heartfelt letter by Dan on his web site and the encouraging words for men to get the PSA/DRE test. My husband started getting those tests 7 years ago and so far so good. I can only hope that more men will do this now.
May God bless you and keep you. You will continue to be in our thoughts. ~

A piece of my heart is missing this morning. I haven't forgotten what
it is, I just know I will miss it.
I also know Creator has welcomed you home as one of his prized masterpieces.
Your native brothers and sisters will remember you well and speak of you in
the best way. My church is also the wilderness, which is where I know I can
always find you.
Peace and Blessings to Jean and the rest of your family and friends.
Well Done Dan. ~

To the family of Dan Fogelberg,
I was so saddened to hear of Dan's passing. I hope it is encouraging to know that just
yesterday, (a few hours before his passing) out of the blue, I thought of Dan and said a
prayer for him. I don't think that was a coincidence. There is a God who loves you and
who loved (and loves) Dan. May He comfort you and hold you close in this time of sorrow. ~

I am shocked and saddened with the news of Dan's passing. One of my
goals in life was to see him perform. My prayers go out to his family.
My husband is a cancer survivor. We must continue the fight to find a
cure for this horrible disease. ~
Kellie Jones, MA
I was absolutely stunned when I read the newspaper this morning. I knew
(from the web site) that Dan had prostate cancer, but I secretly held out the
hope of seeing him perform again.
I had always been a fan of Dan's music. His lyrics were sheer poetry set to
music. His voice was, well, soothing, sexy, beautiful. If you are reading
this, you are already a fan and know how amazing he was.
It wasn't until I saw him perform in concert that I truly saw how incredibly
talented he was. He was such a professional. every song, every note was
played to perfection.
I had the privilege of seeing him in concert two additional times. I
couldn't wait for him to come to my area again so I could get tickets as
soon as they came out.
After reading the news this morning, I felt as if I had lost a close friend,
someone who was with me for so many years and with whom I had grown up with.
His music carried me through so many phases of my life. Some good, some very
difficult. I laughed with Dan, I cried with Dan. I will truly miss him and
his music. There will never be another talent quite like his.
My sympathies go out to Dan's family. His fans all share in their loss. ~ J
I cannot begin to express the depth of my sadness in the loss of
Dan
Fogelberg. His music has been a part of my life for such a long time.
Words do little to comfort the bereaved, so I will simply say I am
sorry. God speaks through the words of some, and the music of others. I
think Dan had both of those bases covered. ~
John Patrick Colatch, D.Min.
My thoughts and prayers go out to Jean and their families. Dan was the only artist of our time that captured our hearts in song. He knew how to capture joy and heartache perfectly. The world will now see the gift that this man had. (Unfortunately it takes someone's death to accomplish this). I am so thankful that you put our thoughts to him in book form so he could read how we feel about him. I'm so glad that I wrote something to him. I am very sad today knowing that this world has lost one of the great talents and hearts. But, I know he is in heaven now singing for God.
Thank you for all of your hard work in continuing to share his legacy on your web site. ~
Sandra Minne
Dear Fogelberg Family, the bright soul of Dan has cast it's light on so many millions of people. His bright soul will continue to shine on."Let it shine...oh let it shine." Thank you Dan for your light in my life. Peace to you and your family. ~ Terence
How I will miss Dan. His words and music always spoke to me as no other. My
little sister turned me onto his music in the mid 70's. I have been hooked
ever since.
I had the opportunity to see him live on about 3 occasions; not enough. I am
rueful that there will be no more. My loving prayers go out to Jean ; Dan's fine
wife who loved him for so long. I know my sense of loss is nothing compared
to the loss felt by her. But, I will keep his songs in my heart. I will keep
singing them daily. Maybe someday I can pen a song to compare with his. I
think "Nether Lands" was my theme song for quite some time. I remember watching
the progress of his words and craft throughout his career and marveling at
his maturation process. To me Dan was the quintessential troubadour,
singer, musician and poet of our day.
To say I will miss him is not deep enough. Even though we never met, I have
lost another brother in my life. Godspeed you, Dan Fogelberg.
To all the Fogelberg family, I send my condolences. ~

For Dan and his family:
May the LORD bless you and keep you.
The LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you.

Dan's music has touched my heart and spirit many times. I remember a performance in Aspen when I lived there during the 70's and 80's. I am saddened by his passing, but know that he lived life to its fullest and will continue to reach out through the power of music.
My sincere condolences to his friends and family. ~

Dan, To say that your music has been an integral part of my life, every day,
is to grossly understate it's importance.
We will find a way, somehow, to carry on without you, but life just got
harder for us all. At least we have your music, your legacy, to comfort us.
Though the world is a little sadder place, Heaven is enriched. "The mark of your ignorance is the depth of your belief in injustice and
tragedy. What the caterpillar calls 'the end of the world,' the Master
calls ... a butterfly." ~ Richard Bach.
My only wish for you is Peace. ~JJT
Dear Jean and family,
I cannot begin to express how much Dan's music and legacy have given me courage when I
really didn't think I could go on. His music and his "light" will live on in my heart
and I will continue to share his legacy with my children and grandchildren. Thank you for
sharing your beloved husband and friend with all of us. We are all grieving with you,
but our loss is of course incomparable to anything that you and your family are feeling
right now.
Please take care of yourselves and know that we are praying for all of you and this world
of ours. ~
Trish
I was deeply saddened by the news that Dan has passed away.
Unfortunately, this is the only time of year "Same Old Lang Syne" gets played, it probably is my favorite song of his. You see, it reminds me of my story, re-meeting the love of my life (yes, in a grocery store) and those feelings of excitement, sadness of what could have been, wistfulness.
The happy ending, years later, after 2 nasty divorces, we are married, (13 years Dec 30) and continue to cherish our love and life together. We are truly blessed.
I hope that you are close to God, and know that Dan's music touched so many hearts with music that meant something. Simple, loving and beautiful. I'm sure you, his family, know how blessed you were to have him in your life. ~

It has saddened me to hear of Dan's passing. Your song "Same Old Lang Syne" is
my
favorite holiday song and when I hear it on the radio I will listen to the
end even if it makes me late. Your music will live forever. Rest in Peace. ~
Kelley Eccles
My Heart is broken. I can't even imagine how family and friends are feeling. You
are all in my thoughts and prayers. May peace be yours. He did give to all of his fans a gift we cannot repay. He got me through many hard times in my life and we celebrated with his music. What an incredible gift he is and I say is because his music will live on. He will live on in all the hearts of his fans that got a glimpse of his heart. My deepest sympathy goes out to you all. Sincerely ~ Claudette
I just learned this morning of Dan's passing and I wept. Having grown
up in Southern California in the 1970's & early 80's. Dan was a vibrant
soundtrack to my life. Now at 40 years of age, married, with kids, career
and mortgage, it sometimes seems like feelings and passions temper over
time. However, every once in a while one of Dan's songs will come across
the radio and my world seems to stop and I take a moment to remember to "way
back when" as well as think about where I am going. It never fails to give
me clarity and perspective, some longing for times long past, a few regrets,
but invariably optimism and appreciation of what I have now and what my
future might hold. Rather humbling to realize that a few words and music
can evoke such strong feelings. "Gift" seems rather inadequate to describe
what Dan gave to a great many of us. THANK YOU and PEACE are the only gifts
I can return, in kind. ~ Ken, St. Augustine, Florida.
Dear Fogelberg family - my heart is aching for your loss and for the
loss of all those Dan touched so deeply through his music. It is at
times like these, when I am typing through tears, it is still hard to
rejoice knowing that Dan is with his Holy Father and will feel no more
pain and will live forever. It is times like these when I struggle
with my new found faith....and my heart hurts. But I do believe in
everlasting life, and I do believe that Dan is in a wonderful place, and
I hope God will lift up your hearts and you can, in time, rejoice in
knowing that you will be together again, forever. Thank you all for
making Dan's life a happy one....and for sharing him with us for so
long.
My prayers are with you ~

When I heard the news, I felt kicked in the stomach. I lost a best friend
earlier this year & the feeling was exactly the same. My deepest sympathy and
prayers go the Dan and his family. No one will miss him more than I.
My sincerest condolences to his family and friends, he left us way too
early. I've
Seen him perform many, many times, he was so passionate about his music. First time was in NYC when he opened for the Eagles in 1975. He will be missed immensely and never forgotten. A musical genius. "Take life for all the freedom you can".
Godspeed.
I spent my teen years with you in my ears everyday. And often as an adult.
I
can't imagine being without you then, or now. I'm going to miss you, just
knowing you aren't around to write anymore. ~ Annette Warner
A rare gift and a loving heart. Dan will be sorely missed, but never ever
forgotten. ~
DK
Thank you for the music. For that we never can repay. God's wishes to
all of the family.
I felt like I'd been dealt a hard blow when I heard the news this
morning. This man's music has been part of my life since high school
days. I think back to that time and my friendship with Mimi and
Kathy...we'd play the early albums over and over again. It was as if
he'd written those songs especially for us. "Longer" was my wedding
song, as I'm sure it was for many.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Such a huge loss; such a
young man. ~

I was a student at the U. of Illinois during Mr. Fogelberg's time in
Champaign. I remember the nights at the Red Herring and later concerts in
the Auditorium that were magic. It was very sad to see the news of his
death this morning. He lived a rich, meaningful life and a treasure of
great music. My condolences to his family.
I hope that Dan, wherever he may be now, and his family can take some
comfort in the fact that he truly touched the hearts of millions and, in
my instance, changed the way that I view the world. My thoughts and
prayers are with you all in your time of loss.~

My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Dan Fogelberg. Dan's music was a staple on my turntable in the 70s and 80s and meant and continues to mean a great deal to me. There are songs and artists I turn to when I am having hard times, need encouragement and strength and Dan's music was always there for me. A personal favorite of mine is High Country Snows. This album launched me into my "bluegrass period" and is a fine piece of work. When I heard of Dan's passing l played all of Souvenirs. I was late for work but it was worth it. ~ Lou Rotondo
As a teenager in the 70's, I fell in love with Dan's music the first time I
ever heard it. His music was one of the primary forces in causing me to
develop the love of great music, which is still my passion today. No one
in the music scene since the 70's has captured the passion and emotion in
life the way Dan did with his music and poetic lyrics. I am deeply saddened
that this exceedingly creative and apparently quite courageous life has been
taken, but I am so thankful that his legacy lives on with his music. The
world has always been a richer place because of Dan, and I will be even
more thankful now, each time I listen to his music. ~

I saw Dan in concert at Madison Square Garden many years ago. He was

As I mourn Dan's passing, I celebrate his music . He will always be a light in the depth of darkness for me. I pray he is at peace in a better
place. ~ Cindy
My deepest sympathy to the Fogelberg family and friends.
I am deeply sorrowed to hear of Dan's passing. My friends and I have enjoyed his music for many years. I have tried to play his music ever since I bought my first guitar in 1978 and am occasionally good enough to move people with his songs. I never had the chance to see Dan at a live show, but several years ago he was actually scheduled to come to our small town of Greensburg, PA. Several days after the concert announcement, he announce the cancer and had to cancel the show. We were waiting in vain to reschedule. There are to few people in this world that actually stand for something, and something so good, we will miss you but heavens band just got a little sweeter.
Dan will be missed. As a Kentuckian, I think of him every first
Saturday in May. His song "Run for the Roses" truly captures the spirit
of the Kentucky Derby. He was a very talented man indeed. Thank you
for your music, Dan. ~

Dan's music has been the soundtrack to my life and I was so very saddened to
hear of his passing yesterday. Dan's legacy will live on forever in his music,
as it continues to touch the hearts of many.
Thank you Dan, for the beautiful footprint you've left in this world.
When I was growing up, I heard this man's music mostly from hanging out with my
older
brothers and a friend/neighbor of ours who played guitar.
It made me want to write/play music. I'm not that good a musician at all,I don't think
I ever will be, but this your music made me realize that every song tells a story and
only the greatest stories ever really touch your heart.
I hear 'Same Old Lang Syne' every year around this time, and every time, I wind up in
tears.
This year, it'll be just a little more difficult to hear it.
God Bless you, Daniel. Thank you for everything you ever gave us, and giving us, what I
think, is probably one of the most beautiful songs about love ever written.
My prayers and thoughts are with Dan's family today. It is a great loss for all who have
heard his beautiful voice and shared the love of his music. He will be greatly missed. ~

What sad, sad news to learn that the world has had to say goodbye to Mr.
Fogelberg and to his tremendous talent.
Dan Fogelberg's music was introduced to me (on records!) when I was about
13 by my parents who were fans of his from the beginning. His music was
such a special connection within our family. We went to concerts and were
eager to get his new albums as they were released. Being a rather young
fan, I'm 25 now, my friends all know of Dan through my raving about him
and tease me a bit for this, since many of them are not familiar with his
music (what a shame!). After my husband told me the news yesterday
that Mr. Fogelberg had died, my friends and family all join in the sharing
of condolences along with Fogelberg fans around the world.
The Fogelberg family is in my prayers for God's comfort in the promise of
eternal life and in the love they share.
Peace be with you, ~

I am looking out the window at snow swirling around the pine trees in my back yard, and it could almost be a line from one of Dan's songs.
Dan Fogelberg's music often had a certain quality that I loved, a longing for something that once was,or might one day be again.
I guess that sums up the way I feel at the moment for although there is great loss, there is hope for the future.
My family has long treasured your gift of music, and indeed it is a gift we never can repay.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jean and the rest of Dan's family and friends. ~ Mike Lynch and family - Miramichi N.B.
Jean,
My thoughts are with you this day. Dan's music brought meaning to so many
events, both large and small, in my life. I believe that the joy he brought to
others will continue and that he will live in his music forever. ~
Deirdre
Dear Jean,
My family and I
send you our most heartfelt sympathy. Dan made such a difference in our lives. God be with you in this difficult time. You will be in our prayers.
I first heard of Dan Fogelberg in 1978 from a dear friend, Jeff M., who played for me
"There's a Place in the World for Gambler" and "Looking for a Lady", helping me find my
own voice. I hold deep sadness in Dan's passing, his music touched me so deeply. ~ Lauranne Bailey
A lot of good memories of riding around in the car on winter days listening
to Souvenirs and then later Captured Angel and Nether Lands on the 8-track.
Thanks for your immense contributions and our prayers are with your family. ~

My first concert in the late 70's in Elliot Hall of Music at Purdue University. Piano set followed by the Guitar. It was awesome! Bless your spirit and best wishes to your family. ~ Brian Heimbach - Frankfort, Indiana
Dear Fogelberg family, the bright soul of Dan has cast its light on so many
millions of people in such little time. May his soul shine on, "let it shine... oh let it shine". Peace to all and to you Dan. ~ Terence
I am going to miss him dearly. He along with James Taylor and John Denver
helped shape my teenage years and my life since. ~
Mr. Richard Bacon
To the entire Fogelberg family,
I heard of Dan's passing over night last night on the overnight radio. I am
so saddened to hear this news. I've always thought Dan to be my all time
favorite songwriter and musician. This morning, going to work, I plugged in
the Innocent Age CD and it brought on so many reflections of childhood,
heritage, coming of age and what's really important in our journey through
life. I can relate to the feelings in his art and always felt that we were
actual friends. I wish peace and comfort to Dan's loving family and will remember Dan in my
prayers throughout the Christmas Season at Mass and through the coming year.
Take Care and God Bless ~

Jean,
Dan will be missed so much. I can't express my sorrow enough, but
I have been so blessed to have been alive at the same time as this
great talent. My sincere condolences are with you and your family.
Thank you, Dan, for touching my life with your music for nearly three
decades.Your lyrics and sumptuous arrangements changed my life
for the better, and you will never, ever be forgotten.
"To the Morning," Dan.... every sunrise will make me think of you
and this song, from now on. Love ~ Elaine (Long Island, NY)
His music inspired us all and his parting much to soon. Miss you ~

Your music has touched us all. May God bless you and your family.

Dan died yesterday. He was an important part of my life in an odd way. 30 years ago in school, my roommate introduced me to Dan's music and I was captivated. Over the year we were together, I was moved by the songs - the music, the melodies, the thoughts.
In the normal course of events, we went our separate ways. I retained my intense interest in music, begun at an early age. But Dan faded into the background of my life. Over the years, I heard his music rarely, perhaps only 2 or 3 times on the radio.
Then, this past Saturday night, I heard "Same Old Lang Syne" on the radio, and for some reason, it penetrated and stuck with me. So that night, I downloaded "Same Old Lang Syne" and "Nether Lands" (from WalMart of all places!). I remembered "Nether Lands" as being particularly moving. It's playing as I write this, and it still leaves me with goose bumps.
Then I see in the paper this morning that he died yesterday. That's a little too coincidental for comfort Makes me think.
Love and condolences to all his fans. ~

Through your life's music and your encouragement of prostate cancer awareness, your music and your caring heart will live long in our hearts and memories. Thanks for so many great ones!
People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.
When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support,
to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled, their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on. A dear friend is gone. My Condolences To Dan's Family, Friends and Fans.
Thank you, with love.
Great sadness today. I will listen to my vinyl records tonight and remember him fondly. ~ Tim - Lincoln, Nebraska
My condolences and prayers to Dan and his family. Dan, you provided the best music
during the 70's and 80's. I am so glad I had a chance to see you in concert. It's a
custom now that every trip that I make through Kentucky, your CD goes in, and I play "Run
for the Roses" and because of that, my children are now familiar with your music. "Your
fate is delivered - your moment's at hand - It's the chance of a lifetime in a lifetime
of chance - And it's high time you joined in the dance. " The music you created kept
us all in "the dance" and it's been the best 'dance' for all of us. Rest in Peace - God
bless. ~

To the Family of Dan Fogelberg,
I extend my deepest sympathy. We have lost a true musical treasure.
Dan's music touched me in a way few others have been able to accomplish. I
will always be thankful to him for making me feel deeply and for helping to
verbalize that which was deep in my soul. I will always love his Exiles
album and his classic "Leader of the Band" and "Same Old Lang Syne". Your
gift for telling a story was second to none. You will always live on in
your music and in the hearts of your many fans.
Rest in Peace Dan. I know you will be singing with the angels now. ~ Elaine A. Lagarto
I remember a day in 1972, driving in my Triumph convertible, radio
blaring. This was the first time I heard his voice. I pulled over to the
side of the road so that the music was not obliterated by the engine
noise. I was instantly hooked. I drove immediately to the record
store(remember them?) and bought the LP.
That moment will be etched in my mind forever. He will be
missed...terribly. But thank you for the memories and songs that will
last beyond time.
Thanks ~
Andy
Dan wrote his lyrics in a way that made us feel as if we really knew him. I'm sure that is why so many of us are so saddened to know he has left this earth. I often thought how it must have been to really know Dan as friend or family. The loss of such a person in your lives is unimaginable to me. I offer my sympathies to Jean and the family. I know his music will be played in my home along with the Christmas carols this year. ~ Jane -Pennsylvania
Life holds so many paradoxes that can't always be understood in the moment, if at all.
We now live with another. Dan's passing. A sadness in my heart, and a joy that he left
the beautiful gifts of his music, that will never die. To Jean, I send comfort and
peace. The angels have another wonderful voice with them. And we still have that voice
here.
How Blessed.
With Love ~ Karuna Gerstein -Cotati CA
My heart is broken, and my prayers are with Jean and the family. What a
dear sweet soul our Dan was. You will be sorely missed, dear one. Thank
you is not enough for the legacy of music you left to all of us. Thank you
for sharing your talent, your dreams, your soul with us. I'm jealous of
Heaven now. What an addition to the choir. Love ~ Dena
We stayed up until midnight last night by the light of the fire and the Christmas Tree, listening to Dan's music. We recalled the shows we saw in Philly, Seattle, Portland and Indianapolis. We remembered the funny stories he told on stage, and all of the loving memories of people and places that his music evokes in us. We cried the way we do when we lose someone we love. The world was a better place with Dan Fogelberg in it. He will remain a chief inspiration for us as an example of doing good work in the world. ~ Joe McKinstry & Paul Butler
I am deeply saddened by Dan's passing. To his family, I hope you are
comforted by the many people who loved Dan through his music. While he
is gone to a better place, those left are lucky to have his music to
remember him by. I know generations to come will continue to find
inspiration in his music, as will I. Whenever I'm walking the dogs at
night & see a ring around the moon, I always start singing "In the
Passage". I will continue to keep the family in my prayers. ~

My wife Leslie and I have been fans of Dan's music since the beginning
and own just about every recording of his. We will miss his lyrics and
special way of creating a song that no one has captured in the same
manner. Hopefully he will be at peace now and free from pain and
suffering. Our regret is that we are not able to hear any new music
from him, but his songs will live on forever in our hearts.
Dan, you have created many a moment that our lives have shared along the
way, and we are forever grateful.
Our sincere sympathy to Jean and the rest of Dan's family and friends.
Today is a very sad day for my wife and myself. Having lost my father
and mother early in life to cancer I know the conflict of feelings those
close to Dan must be feeling. Joy that Dan no longer suffers and great
sadness at the loss of a dear friend or family member. Dan was blessed
with a great gift and in turn blessed us by sharing that gift. Dan will
live on through his music in our home as well as thousands of other
homes.
May God bless and keep you all. "The Leader of the Band" has a new band
member.
When I heard of your diagnosis, I prayed that everything would work out
for
you but as time passed, I sensed that that may not be the case. I just want
you to know that I am deeply saddened but know that you are among friends and
loved ones probably singing like the angel you were. I never had a chance
to meet you but I felt like it would have been as friends sharing a beer and
tossing around tales for hours. You came across as so accessible.
I will never forget your music and how it affected me. It was a big reason
for me enjoying the guitar, singing and writing songs. I used to play a
bunch of your songs in college and actually had a classmate give me one of
the biggest compliments of my life, when she told me after hearing a song of
yours that I sounded and played just like you did. It meant more than she
knew. It was the sincerest form of flattery and I wish I could have shared
that moment with you. I loved all of your music and it played a huge part
in my life. Your music will always remind me of some of the most wonderful
times of my life.
Please Rest in Peace and know that you are in my thoughts and thank you for
everything you did to accent my life. With Love ~ Mike in MD
Thanks for the memories Dan. Our prayers go out to your loving family.
