Jean - My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.  My  husband and I attended one of Dan's concerts is 2003 and loved every minute of  it!  Unfortunately in early 2004, I lost my husband to pancreatic  cancer.  He was my best friend as well as my husband and I still miss him  every minute of my life.  My heart goes out to you!
Thanks to you and Dan for all of the wonderful musical memories we  have. ~ Nicki

I am so sorry to hear we lost our musician/songwriter/singer, the great Dan Fogelberg.  I was so blessed to grow up in the 70's, and enjoy his inspirational and spiritual music, among other greats like Fleetwood Mac, John Denver, Kenny Loggins, Elton John, etc. That magical realm of music sparked my own creativity, and molded me into the imaginative, deep thinking person I am today.  Dan Fogelberg was a great part of that realm.  In the movie "FM" they featured his song,"There's A Place In The World For A Gambler", and the "Souvenirs" album cover was shown on film.  I am so glad the film industry decided at one time to honor our beloved Dan Fogelberg.  There is a concert tape of Dan Fogelberg, "Greetings From The West" which I am fortunate to have in my collection.  I discovered "Souvenirs" in 1977 while searching through my older sister's album collection.  I was instantly hooked.  "Phoenix" is such a cool song, I was deep into that song at age 17, during the best time of my life.  I remember going to the record store and buying the vinyl album "Twin Sons of Different Mothers" at a place called "Peaches", back when they hung enlarged painted album covers outside the record store building.  On this album, the song "Since You've Asked" is so beautiful. I will always choose this for a very special occasion. Another favorite song, "These Days", reminds me of how free we were in the 70's.  Our clothing styles reflected American Indian style, with leather fringe purses, long beautiful hair with hair beads and feathers, faded jeans.  Our generation enjoyed freedoms which now are no longer being enjoyed.  Youth today is so controlled, camera surveillance everywhere, dress codes.  In this day and age, it's difficult to hold onto one's creative spirit and wild heart.  So many of us have no choice but to sell out on our dreams and conform to endless rules.  Music, art, religion and nature is our only escape from this reality. All of these things along with  strong beliefs in nature conservation and the American Indian way, are reflected in Dan Fogelberg's beautiful songs. Even though Dan Fogelberg has passed, he will live on through his music, and remind me of my teenage years in the 70's, the best decade, the best time of my life.

In the most formative years of my life, I found Dan Fogelberg.  He inspired, challenged and motivated me through songs that will ring true long after we all are gone.  His music was the soundtrack of my life and I am grateful and appreciative of his life and legacy. ~ Scott Covington, Houston, Texas

Dear Jean, I know of the heartache and pain you must be feeling at this time. I lost my wife Katherine five years ago to cancer. Just know that Dan is still with you, in your heart and mind, and always will be. Know too that he touched so many with his music. I am also a musician and I perform some of Dan's music whenever I play, so, his music is still alive and I will do my part to keep it alive. My best wishes is this difficult time.  ~ Carl Robinson

Dan's music is very special to me.  Although I never had the privilege of seeing him in person, his music touched me.  He will be greatly missed. ~ Lee

Last night at my family's annual holiday party, we all listened to Dan's Christmas CD.  That's when my brothers asked me if I knew how Dan was feeling.  I told them I didn't know, but last I had heard, Dan was holding his own.  My family continued by poking fun of my life long love of Dan and his music, yet this morning, on the front page of our paper was Dan's obituary. I am so saddened by this major loss, and my phone continues to ring from those who know how I felt about this amazing guy. Thank you so much for the web site and for the opportunity to express my condolences. ~ Liz Leshine

My condolences to Dan's family and friends. His legacy to us will be his wonderful music.

Dan, as a person, your beautifully crafted lyrics helped define the early stages of my life.  As a musician, you inspired me like no other as I began to explore the wonders of music.  And now, in your passing, I am truly saddened and feel as though a part of me is gone.  Keep on making beautiful music in heaven and you will always be remembered here on earth. ~ Jeff, Monument, Colorado

May God bless Dan as he is now in a better place. I will pass his music on to my children for them to enjoy for many years to come. My prayers are with you! ~ Jenny Sumner Ulm

Dear Jean, My heart goes out to you.  You and yours will be in my prayers. I've always loved Dan and his music.  Always will. In Christ's love ~ Julia

I am so sorry to hear of his passing.  Just last week I had thought that I might email KBCO in Boulder to see if they had an update on his conditions.  I have his Christmas CD in my player and played it during a dinner party last week.
His music and essence gave me a lot of peace and pleasure for a long, long time.  I have had the great pleasure to see him perform in Ohio and Colorado where I live now.  His music represents my college years at Miami University where I first discovered him. I wish he were still with us but his music will always be.  Thank you, Dan, for all you have done. Best regards to his family ~ Leslie Hilleman

I am saddened beyond word at the passing of the MAN I most admired and  loved in the music world.  Being born in the same year and being drawn in  towards his music, HE defined me in the 70's and 80's.  Before Dan was a  huge name in the music world, those of us who  knew, wondered why he wasn't  bigger, sooner.  "Wysteria" was always my favorite song and Home Free my  favorite album.  I had it in vinyl, cassette and two or three CD's, as I  wore it out .  Home Free is in my car player now. I always felt like Dan Fogelberg was a  friend.  He was always so genuine and gentle. I pray for him and his family, that they be  comforted by GOD in this time of sorrow. ~ Jim Lilly

Happy Holidays to all who happen upon this. I heard about Dan this morning on the radio & I am so sad. My heart aches. However what a legacy he has left us with his music which got me through some times in college. How I will miss him & will continue to listen to all of his music with the knowledge that I am somehow better because of this gifted artist who is now at peace. God Bless his family & it is with a sad smile that I recall his music & will continue to get so much joy out of it. God bless us everyone!

I am beyond moved at the loss of Dan. I was not aware that he was ill. His music has always touched me and now I sit with tears in my eyes writing this as a great musician has left us. Millennium from now they may not remember who Dan was but the little blip on the time line that we live in we were fortunate enough to be with Dan and be blessed by his music. His was thoughtful and his kind songs that left me feeling less hardened.

May you rest in peace!  Thanks for your songs over the years!!! ~ Bryan Kerrigan

"There's a Place in the World for a Gambler" is a song I turn to whenever I have self doubt or wonder about my place in the world.  Dan left us all a legacy of friendship and poetry wrapped in beautiful music. God rest his soul. ~  Mike Ragen, Springfield Illinois

Dan was a wonderful singer. I remember hearing his songs in the early 80's and they were a joy to listen to. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to his wife and family during this time of loss. May they be encouraged by the legacy of love he left behind. ~ Corinne Tobin

To all whom it concerns and to Dan, sitting with the Master Musician - "There is a reason for everything, they say, under the sun. For every reason to stay I find a reason to run...I find a reason to run." There are so, so, so many song quotes we could use for just about anything under the sun. I'm sure there is even a better one than this for a time like this, but I had just recently been playing this song over and over and had planned to learn the guitar parts.

In the last 2 weeks I have found a new love for Dan and his music after learning almost every song he ever wrote back in the early 70's and beyond. Out of the blue, I ran across my LP's and CD's of Dan a couple of weeks ago and I have been listening to him almost non-stop, especially the "Full Circle" album. As I mentioned, I had planned to learn the guitar parts for "Reason to Run" as well as many more on this album. Almost all of the other albums I had grown very close to at the time they came out, but "Full Circle", although I've had it since it came out, I've only recently listened intently and found that it is truly one of his best. Out of all of the musicians since the 60's, including the Beatles!, no one had touched and affected my life as much as Daniel Fogelberg! He Lives On In His Music! ~ Bruce Phillips and wife Margaret and our five children

My thoughts and prayers to Dan's family and close friends.   I know what a struggle you all have been through.  His music will truly live on. Such a talent, and so kind of him to share.  Heaven's band just got one of the best.  Peace and rest to you all.  ~ Mary, Columbia, SC.

Dear Jean and Family, I want to extend my deepest condolences to you and your family. Dan's music  has touched my life in a way that no other artist could.  His music will  live on forever and may you find comfort and peace in knowing that he brought  such joy to those who listened to his music and had the pleasure of seeing him  in concert. I remember seeing him at Jones Beach Theater on Long Island some  years back and it started pouring down rain.  We all just sat there and  got wet, we didn't leave.  Dan was very touched by this and said  so. His fans were as dedicated to him as he was to his  fans.  Dan, you will  always  proudly be the "living legacy" to the leader of the band." May you Rest in  Peace.   ~ Lisa M., New York.

First my deepest condolences to you all. The world has lost an angel on Sunday. My name is Kathy and I am a 37 year old mom of 3. I had quite a turbulent childhood and continue to have problems with depression and anxiety. When I was a little girl, music was my way out. I would even sleep with the radio on. I didn't listen to all the teen age stuff. I listened to anything that described my emotions or what I was feeling then. Dan's music felt like angel wings holding me close to someone or something that had meaning. His words were humble and kind and full of emotion.

I was watching the news last night and when they mentioned Dan passing away, I immediately sat up and was overwhelmed with grief. Like I said the world has lost a true angel, and my heart goes out to you all. He will never be forgotten and will always hold a special place in my heart. Thoughts and prayers continue for you now and always.
May time heal your wounds. With Love ~ Kathy

Thanks to Dan for providing the music and lyrics of life in a confusing time.  Thanks too to his family for making the sacrifices that allowed all of us to share in Dan's minstrel presence in our lives.  My deepest condolences to Jean and Dan's family and friends for their loss.  As powerful a presence as Dan was as a voice in the air has to pale to his presence in your lives.  He was an incredibly special man.  His loss has created a void that will never adequately be refilled.  May the rest of your days be as Dan's are now, with fair winds and following seas. ~ Ron B.

Rest In Peace DF. My favorites are "Sutter's Mill" and "The Wild Places". Your music will live on.....

My heart is broken and I cannot hold back the tears.  I have loved every song since Home Free was released.  Jean, our prayers go out to you as you grieve. I know the heartache of loosing the man you love, the pain never completely goes away, but with love and support from the world, I am sure the pain will lessen with time. God bless you for being there when Dan needed you! Thank You. ~ Christina Lara

He gave us a gift we will never repay but will continue to enjoy through his music and talent.  I am the same age as Dan born just a few days before him, and I do get the PSA and DR exam every year and hope his warning and message gets out to as many people as possible.  He will be missed but never forgotten by all  who grew up with him and loved his music. ~ Jim L Christie, Wildwood, Missouri

From a Fellow Mainer and fan I am truly sorry for your loss.  He was an inspiration and will be sadly missed by all.  My deepest and sincere sympathy ~ Becki Hall, Casco Maine

I am very sad to hear of Dan's passing. I had been praying for him.  Dan's music was a big part of my life and I believe that he was one who had a rare gift. He will be missed greatly but his music lives on... ~ Dana Smith

I shed a tear when my husband woke me this morning to tell me about Dan’s passing. I just turned fifty this week and his music was the music of my youth and my life. Heartfelt condolences to his loved ones. His music truly touched the soul of myself and many others. Sincerely ~ Holly Maciolek

My husband Tony played in an ersatz Dan Fogelberg tribute band for years, called Safe Harbor, which disbanded in 1985. He broke down when he heard the news of Dan¹s passing, and he is now 56, the same age as Dan. He also made an appointment for a prostate screening today. Dan left much more than a musical legacy, to say the very least. God bless and keep him ~ LeAnn from TN

I was very saddened to hear that such a wonderful man with a wonderful voice has died.  I have been a fan of Dan for many many years.  His music will live on forever in my heart and my children's hearts!  I give my many condolences to his wife and family....live on Dan!

What a gifted man. May you be blessed with his spirit and enduring light. My sincere condolences on your tragic loss, and thanks for allowing us to share your grief. Peace to you ~ Camille Ziemann, Algonquin, IL

My deepest sympathies to your family on their loss.  You touched my life with your music in a way you will never know.  Thank you for all the great music.  It got me through many things in life.  I know you'll be singing with the Angels in Heaven. ~  Robin

To the family of Dan Fogelberg, Please know that there are many of us all over the world who are mourning the loss of this great artist.  I have been a tremendous fan of Dan since he wrote and sang "Run for the Roses".  That particular song as well as "Leader of the Band" have meant so much to me--long before the death of my father, a Kentuckian and horse trainer. My father has been gone for ten years but those songs still bring tears to my eyes. We shall all miss Mr. Fogelberg.  May the family be at peace with his death and may God bless and love them each and every one as I am sure He will. Sincerely ~ Diane Brandstaetter, Atlantic Beach, Florida

I am probably the only 37-year-old black woman who grew up listening to Dan's songs and understanding the passion in the lyrics. I am saddened to learn that he had been battling cancer, and even sadder to learn of his passing. I pray that he transitioned smoothly and with peace, and I also pray for his family and friends as well. If I could have met Dan, I would have wanted him to know how his songs permeated me and made me simply FEEL. May God bless Dan and his family. ~a fan

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, Dan, as you embark on a new and peaceful journey.  A wonderful friend and brilliant musician, you will be dearly missed. ~Tom, Kim, Benny, Ashlee, Sean (The Coffey Family)

Dan Fogelberg's Greatest Hits was something I owned as an album, cassette, cd and now on my Ipod.  I recently played it for my youngest child as I did for her three brothers.  His story songs are what we need more of.  Thank you Dan and I hope that every man will heed his encouraging words posted on his website and get regular check ups.  Dan didn't have to die. ~ Martha

He moved my husband and I through his wonderful songs.  What a joy it was to have our daughter discover his music and again awaken the days of our youth through it. Dan will live on through memories and his song! God Bless ~ Linda & Bill Macky

Words cannot describe the sadness I feel today. Thank goodness that music lasts forever and so will my memories of the concerts over 30 years. I started today with "To The Morning" and all I can say is that we were all blessed to have you in our lives.  ~ Steve Brumer

My memories of Dan started many years ago when I met him while he was playing the coffeehouse circuit around Illinois colleges. He was a headliner, I was a pass the hat guy who had no clue what he was doing. Nevertheless I remember him being encouraging and being blown away by his talent and his voice.   After that, I saw him many times in concert and would cover some of his songs when I was dating my wife.  Souvenirs was one of her favorites.  One holiday when the family got together I played "Leader of the Band" to my father.  One of my favorites that I have
worn out many times was Twin Sons Of Different Mothers with Tim Weisberg. Seems like I always gravitated to a Fogelberg song when I picked up my guitar to play.    Now that Dan is gone, my thoughts turn to those days when we were much younger.  God speed, Dan.  Your memory will live with this old guitar player forever.

I want to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Dan.  My wife and I had a friend of ours sing "Longer" A capella at our wedding and the songs and music which came from his heart have meant a lot to us.  I know he will be greatly missed by those who knew him and also by all of us who were inspired and touched by him.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.

Dear Dan, I never wrote you a fan letter but now I'm writing to you. I'm so sorry that you had to fight prostate cancer. Your music has been a steady and reassuring part of my consciousness since high school. In 1979 my recently "ex" boyfriend at the time performed "Wysteria" and dedicated it to me at our high school prom! We had all your albums and knew your songs by heart. Twice I saw you in concert at the U of I (what a thrill that was!) My favorite was "Run for the Roses." Your wise and tender lyrics helped all of us to "join in the dance." Thank you. ~ Julie Pearson, Bettendorf, Iowa

To Jean and the family of Dan Fogelberg, As a young man starting in radio in the early 80s, (through a friend at Epic Records) I discovered the talents and music of Dan Fogelberg and I quickly became fan. It was amazing how Dan sang with true emotion.  He made you feel every word he sang as if he were singing only to you. Dan will truly be missed but we can rejoice in the music that will live on. God Bless ~ Charles Luck, Lubbock, TX

To Jean and all who loved Dan. How sad to hear about Dan's death.  His music, as others have said so well, touched the lives of millions of people and will live on as a reminder of the gifts he shared so abundantly with others.  I just lost another friend, Peter, age 50 to the same disease and like Dan, he fought it with great courage and dignity.  Peter leaves two little boys and Jeanne, his wife.  I loved Dan's poet soul and I extend my sympathies to Dan's wife and family.  God bless.  ~ Sister Maura Hobart, Daughter of Charity

To the Fogelberg family, In 1982 I went to see Dan in a solo acoustic show at Southwest Missouri State University.  He played and sang for more than 3 hours.  It was in a word...incredible. His words and his music will live forever.  No matter at what level you knew him or enjoyed his talent, you were certainly aware of his God given gifts. Our thoughts and prayers are with you today and always.  May you find comfort in knowing how many lives he truly touched with his heartfelt music. Please accept my deepest condolences ~ Brian, Wisconsin

It was with the greatest of shock and sadness that I read the news of his passing this morning Dec. 17. I was a young immature struggling musician in the late 1970's and Dan's music helped to shape what I became. I learned to play the guitar listening to songs like "Stars", and "Looking For A Lady", and "The Last Nail". I feel as if a piece of my aging heart has just  died. My prayers are with his wife Jean and the family. Heaven now has a chance to hear his heart. Blessings and God's Peace to all ~  Michael Case, Villa Rica, Georgia

Friday afternoon I was standing in the grocery store when "Same Old Lang Syne" started playing. I stopped that moment and said a prayer for Dan. I could feel the end was near. My heart was pounding just feeling he was leaving us. For Jean - my deepest condolences. For Dan - light and energy to guide you on your journey home. ~  Bridget Rigdon

I will continue to keep passing his music on to my children..and  theirs. ~ burnsey

My heart is also broken.  Dan sang from the heart and touched people everywhere.  May he be surrounded now in peace and bliss. ~ Kathy

How do you say you understand when someone loses a loved one.  I feel that I can relate to this loss as I lost my sister (47) to Colon Cancer in June of 07.  She only had a year to live after we found out about her condition.  I have never seen such a horrible thing in all my life.  When I learned of Dan's condition, my heart was saddened because I knew how he was suffering. It just doesn't seem fair that those we love must endure that kind of pain.   Dan Fogelberg has given to so many people a body of music that will live way beyond his years.  I am glad to say that I was able to see him live in concert and will treasure that memory.  I would like to thank you Dan for the memories you have given me and I will always love your music.  God certainly has a new leader for his band in the sky. Sincerely ~ Ted Etheridge

I am very sad today.  He was the greatest...the world has lost one of the best. Jean I wish you peace and happiness. ~ Kathy NH

I loved Dan's music.  He was truly a gifted songwriter and has left behind some wonderful songs to shape his legacy.  For a long time I've wondered how Dan was doing.  I'm just sorry to check his web site and find out he is no longer with us.  My sympathy goes to his wife, family, and friends. May you find comfort and peace.

What can I say? At 3:00 a.m. this morning I heard the news over my radio as I tossed and turned. I was shocked. I prayed for your lovely soul Dan. I prayed that you be welcomed into the wonderful presence of the Lord. I am an acoustic guitar player and was taken by you the first time I heard your Souvenirs album. I cannot put down in words what your music means to me. I try to write my own songs and I know a good songwriter when I hear one. Dan, you were one of the very best. You put into words the feelings that I longed to do but never could. Once when you came to Baton Rouge, the crowd was very rude and it pissed me off. I'm sure it pissed you off too! You wanted to share your soul with us by playing solo, playing softly, playing from your heart but I guess the "crowd" wanted to hear your popular soft rock. I don't know . I felt terrible for the way the crowd acted. I still play several of your songs in my sets and always will. I'll see you soon Dan. God has called an angel home... ~ CK

Thank you for filling our lives with music. ~ JLK

Thank you for sharing your gifts with us. Just one of his many heartbroken devotees ~ Jane Leslie Kreisman

I feel I have lost a friend. Thanks for the music. ~ V.F. New York.

The "pathways the child followed home" may be gone, but the pathways to beauty, love, and sharing our joys and sorrows, that Dan led us to through his inspired vision, will remain.  I am sad to hear of Dan's passing, and I am joyful for the beautiful music he shared with us.  I am so glad I got to see him perform live at a small venue in Wheeling, WV some years ago.  Jean, my prayer is that your grief is tempered with the joy of having known and loved this beautiful soul who is so beloved around the world.  My thoughts and prayers join millions of others for your peace and healing.  Godspeed, Dan.  Love ~ Banford Exley,  Wheeling, WV

Oh God, I was devastated this morning when I heard the news.  Dan Fogelberg’s music brought me through so much teenage angst and heartache.  I love him to this day and still love and play his music. My best to his family and friends. I know that I will miss his presence in this world.

Loved the man! I cried when I heard. His singing and music have inspired me since I was a child! He will always be the "Leader of the Band" to me!!! Prayers go out to his loved ones for comfort and support. It is a truly sad holiday! ~ Briana Moore/ FL

I remember getting a call from Pete Fogelberg, winter of 1993/1994 inviting me to stop by a local bar in downtown Peoria where Pete was performing his solo act. As my wife and I walked in the bar Pete smiled and nodded as he and brother Dan were sitting next to each other playing piano and singing. You could see they were very much enjoying hanging out together, playing and singing and acting up like brothers do. During the set breaks Pete and Dan sat at our table. It was an enjoyable night as we had a few drinks, listened to "Fogelberg brothers stories" and talked until very early in the morning. No one in the bar knew Dan Fogelberg was sitting in with brother Pete Fogelberg. Thank you Dan & Pete for an evening of music and friendship ~ Butch & Karen Duffy, Peoria, Illinois

Dan's Family, I am so sorry for your loss!   Even though we didn't know him personally, he seemed like a wonderful person and musician.  I have loved and listened to his music for years and loved the touching messages in his songs.  I like his music so much that we had one of his songs sung at our wedding.  So, again so sorry for your loss.  Rest in Peace Dan! ~ Marie Lapcinski

The world will miss the music man. What a true gift and blessing he was.He meant so much to so many, God only takes the best. To his family, you have my deepest of sympathy. I lost two family members last December and know what lies ahead of you. Hang on to your love of him and lean on your faith in God and know that someday you will be together again. May the angels be with you to comfort you in your sorrow. God bless you ~ Trish Robichaud, a fan of 32 years

I am so deeply saddened by the loss of Dan Fogelberg.  My heart goes out to his family, especially his wife, Jean.  His music was such a huge part of my life.  Any song that I hear by Dan Fogelberg takes me right back to a specific time and place.  His songs will always be a part of who I am.  My thoughts and prayers are with those closest to Dan. May you always find peace in memories of him.  He was an exceptional human being.  ~ Carole Wright, Gurnee, IL

Dan touched my life immensely during the late '70's when I was a teenager.  His was the first "album" I bought with my own money!  I would have to say that he was my favorite singer then, and I could relate to his lyrics more so than those written by any other.  I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing, and I send all of my condolences to his wife, Jean, and to his family.  His music will live on in the hearts of all whose lives it touched. Sincerely ~ Darlene

Dear Jean,  I read the news this morning and immediately cried as if he were a family member of my own. His songs inspired me for 3 decades and his position about our planet provided me with the foundation I have today to protect the environment . 'Earth Anthem' has been one of my favorites for 3 years. Jean, may you find comfort in knowing that he doesn't have to fight and suffer any longer and I'm confident that he's in a better place. He was loved by thousands of fans and many friends I'm sure. May God always grant you the courage, strength, and guidance to continue doing what He would want for you and may He lift you up at this time. God bless you ~ Cindy Fabian, Charleston, SC

I'm heartbroken. Dan influenced the way I think, write, and sing, and has been since 1973. ~ Candy, Marietta, Ohio

Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. I've listened to and loved his music for years. We will miss his voice and music yet I am sure he is in a better place. Sincerely ~ Rose, Central Maine USA

I'm so very heartbroken to hear of Dan's passing. I was so fortunate to have got to see him live in concert. He will truly be missed. ~ V.Montoya Westminster, Co

Jean,  My heart goes out to you in this time of sadness.  I lost my husband four years ago and you are in my heart as you make your way through this difficult time.  Dan's gentle spirit has touched the lives of so many with his beautiful songs and lyrics.  His music has been an integral part of my life these many years.  He will be missed and never forgotten.  May you be surrounded by the peace, love and comfort of friends and family.  With love and sympathy ~ Miriam - Washington

He will always be in the hearts of the man, woman and child. Now he is in the spirit of the Lord. We will all miss your beautiful songs. My condolences to the Fogelberg family. ~ Ann Thomas, Minnesota

Dear Jean - When I heard the news of Dan's passing on the radio yesterday I was floored.  I prayed for Dan last night and  he is now at peace and no longer suffering.  I have many of his albums (including his last one) and I am so glad I had the opportunity to see him in concert in New Jersey. His voice singing those lyrics was absolutely breathtaking.   The music world lost a wonderful artist and you Jean, a soul mate.  My sincere condolences to you and Dan's family. ~ Patti

I cannot tell you how saddened I was to hear of Dan's passing.  His music has gotten me through some very rough times over the 30 thirty years.  My sisters, who are much older than I, turned me on to Dan's music years ago and when I hear it I am always reminded of my wonderful family.  I only got to see him once in concert during a Memorial Day concert in Dallas in the late 80's.  My prayers and thoughts are with his family.  Please know the world was blessed with such a wonderful musician.  ~ Suzanne Madrid

I was actually talking about Dan Fogelberg Saturday night unaware that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.  I was telling my husband of a Dan Fogelberg concert I went to in Huntsville, Alabama in the late 70's. Fogelberg played solo with his acoustic guitar and piano.  What a concert!  I have many of his albums and have found comfort in his music through many events in my life, especially during those college days in the 70's to 80's.  My thoughts and prayers are with you, Jean, and your extended family.  God Bless You. ~  Jill M.  Gadsden, AL.

I sit here in tears as I read of your death.  I feel like I have lost a dear friend although I never met you.  Your music was you and was such a huge part of my life that I feel you were too.  Thank you for such beautiful, soulful, expressive music. I saw you in concert at least 4 times and was blown away every time.  My prayers of peace go out to your family and hope you are singing in heaven. ~ Marie, Idaho

Godspeed beloved Dan. You are now free to forever roam those high Colorado mountain tops, the beautiful southwestern deserts and the awe-inspiring oceans that you brought to all of us so eloquently in such beautiful and thought provoking song! Our world will never be the same without you Dan.  We will forever hold you near and dear in our hearts through the wonderful gift of your music.  It became the lyrics of my life and made me a better, more loving and considerate human being and citizen of the planet.  Also, thank you Jean Fogelberg for all of the love and support you gave our beloved Dan in his time of need. I hope the rest of your journey on this earth is filled with serenity, peace and love.

I haven't felt like this since John Lennon was murdered. At least the sorrow aspect. I had the distinct pleasure and honor to have seen Dan in concert at least 4 or 5 times. His gentle spirit and the music that he offered to all of us was from his heart and soul and left an indelible mark on us all. I never had the opportunity to meet him which is my loss. I did, however, have an opportunity to meet him through his music. And know him, we all did. Dan we all Love you and you will be deeply missed. Your music legacy will go on for many many generations to come. I grew up with his music in my heart and when I hear his music to this day it reminds me of the best moments and memories of my life!!! To his family, there are no words that could be expressed to ease your sorrow and grief. Know that there are MILLIONS of us out here that have you all in our prayers. He is now at home in the presence of angels as we knew him as one down here. My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. God Bless ~ Douglas Ladd, Rochester, NY

I first heard your song "Part of the Plan" in 1975. I emulated your style of music. You are one of my favorites. I feel the sadness of your passing.  I took a long road trip from Denver to Philadelphia in 2004 and the only tape I played for three weeks on the road was your CD.  I told my five children that I wanted "Leader of the Band" played at my memorial.  Your music made a huge difference in the world.  My condolences to Jean and your family, but you have a place in my six chamber CD tray in my truck that has not been removed since I bought your CD nearly 4 years ago.  You are a beautiful soul. ~ John, Larkspur, Colorado

My thoughts and prayers are with Dan's family, friends and fellow fans!! Our hearts are heavy with his passing. Dan, Go With God.  ~ Maryellen

May his family feel comforted to know that they are not the only ones missing him. Heaven now holds one of the greatest talented artists. His music touched me deeply and it will live on for generations to come. ~ Naomi  - West Babylon, NY

Dear Mrs. Fogelberg, Dan Fogelberg was so much a part of my life through his music that I feel I've lost a faithful, longtime friend. On vacation in New England in 1981, I met a cute guy and we chatted casually about music. Everything clicked between us after he told me he'd just been to a Fogelberg concert and how much he'd enjoyed it. We both had every album available from Fogelberg up to that time. The cute guy followed me home to Texas a few days later and I married him. We just celebrated our 26th anniversary. Mornings of reading the paper together over a pot of coffee is usually our favorite time of day.  This morning we found it unusually sad because of the passing of Dan Fogelberg. He struck a cord in our hearts. The world will be a little colder without him to provide new scores as a backup to our lives. Thankfully, he left an exquisite body of work and  it's timeless. We'll never forget him. Our thoughts are with you in your difficult time. ~ MB

Dan's music was such a great part of my college years and beyond.  My heart broke a bit when I heard of his death.  I hope someday to leave a legacy as great as that of Dan's music and life. ~ Peace, Peggy

To Jean and the rest of Dan's loving family, I am so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I believe he returns to us, again and again, in his beautiful music and the wonderful memories he created for us through that. I can't listen to "Dancing Shoes" or "As the Raven Flies" without knowing exactly what boy I was in love with at the time, in the hills of North Carolina, listening to him play Dan's songs on his guitar. Dan made such a mark with so many - in no small part due to the love and support of his family. He is greatly missed. Much love ~ Jenifer Madson, Erie, Colorado

A great man has left us.  I never met him personally, but his songs, words and melodies have on many occasion brought me peace in my own life.  I will miss him and his music.  God bless you Dan, and my condolences to your family.

The music of Dan Fogelberg is forever entwined with my memories of "the  good old days."  It made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me dance.  It kept me singing during the good times, as well as during those times  that were not so good. Praying God's peace for Dan's family and  friends. Dan Fogelberg will live on in my memories, too. ~ Jamie  (Georgia)

What person from the "Baby Boomers" ever hear "Same Old Lang Syne" and not be returned to the when/where we heard it?  We have been privileged to hear a true artist make magic, and sustain it for decades.  The magic will live much longer, and so will he within it. ~ Michael L. Mills

I was driving in to work this morning when I heard the news. I almost went off the overpass I was so shocked. I remember the first time I heard a Dan Fogelberg song. I was registering for my first quarter classes at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville in September 1976. That day I bought every record that had been released to that point and I have bought every one released since that date. I saw him in concert, also at UT, in April 1982. I often tell people that I once "sang" with Dan Fogelberg. Then I tell them there were 10,000 other people singing with us. But that is how he made you feel, like you were a personal friend and every song was being sung just for you. To all his loved ones, and to those of us who loved the musician, all I can say is that there will only be one Dan Fogelberg and we were blessed to have lived in his circle of light. ~ MARY JO BURNELL

I was shocked and saddened at the news of Dan's passing this morning. My heartfelt condolences and prayers go to Dan and his family. I am a professional musician today because of Dan Fogelberg. I was thirteen when "Home Free" was released and have been an ardent fan ever since. Dan's music touched me on so many different levels that it would be impossible to express in words the influence it has had on my life. Thank you, Dan, for your Life, your Music and your Love. ~ Eddie Francis

I am very sorry to hear of Dan's passing. Like so many I was instantly a fan, and being from Chicago made a point to see Dan in concert many times in the Midwest in the 70's. I brought "Home Free" to college in Iowa City and every girl on my dorm floor was hooked. Introducing his music to friends was a joy as was every album after the first. His lyrics and his music were a special gift. He will be remembered fondly. ~ Michelle

Dan's music always made me smile. So,today I'll smile as Ii remember him. ~ bobby peoria, ill.

Thank you for your inspirational music that has touched me and millions of others.  Rest in peace and God bless your family. ~ Ron - Denver

My heart and prayers go out to Jean and Dan's family.  Dan was a huge part of my life starting in my high school years.  His music and especially his lyrics touched me deeply.  At a time when music seemed to have less and less content and more and more volume, Dan's songs truly pierced the heart and soul.  I have always identified with his comment thanking "his father for his gift of music and his mother for her gift of words".  That truth paralleled my experience with my own parents. In closing, a verse from Nether Lands comes to mind and it offers comfort for an aching heart...

Off in the Nether Lands I heard the sound
Like the beating of heavenly wings
And deep in my brain I can hear a refrain
Of my soul as she rises and sings
Anthems to glory and anthems to love
And hymns filled with earthly delight
Like the songs that the darkness composes to worship the light ...

~ Joe Dickson, Houston, Texas

What a wonderful man -- and an even more beautiful spirit.  My thoughts are with his wife and family - and I will never, EVER forget the wonderful gift he gave all of his fans -- his music. ~ Mikhaela E. Houston

To Jean, family and friends, My deepest condolences for your loss. I have felt a connection with Dan's music for many years. It seemed that his music was the soundtrack of my life and helped me through many troubled times, and many joyous times.  His music continues to inspire me to be a better person and custodian of the earth.  His words and music will continue to fill our hearts, enrich our souls, and he will live there, "Ever On". ~ JP~Eagle River, WI

Peace to Dan's family and friends.  My heart is so heavy that I can only imagine your sorrow.  The world seems a still and quiet place to be today, yet ever more lovely from its Fogelberg infusion over the last 3 decades.  "Thank you" just doesn't quite cover it, but I am forever grateful for your beautiful gifts, Dan, and carry them like precious gems with the greatest respect and love. ~ Marla Stair, Knoxville, TN

My heart is heavy and thankful at the same time. Selfishly I will miss your words and music but also overjoyed by the enjoyment WE all had watching and listening to a true artist at work. To Jean and the rest of the of the Fogelberg family, my prayers go out to you. Rest in Peace Dan and thanks for the ride ~ Tom Siciliano

My fiance, Steve Bailey, and I have been Dan Fogelberg fans for decades. It was Dan’s music that brought us closer together and helped me come out of a dark place and realize how important music meant to me. We are both naturalists and lovers of nature and saving the land. Steve is an ornithologist. I’m a science and nature writer. Dan’s songs inspired us – music is another way to get an important message across to the people.

When I learned of Dan Fogelberg’s death today, I was so saddened – as if a part of me had been taken. But I do know how much he has given to so many people and so I will listen to his music today, remember and be grateful for
his days on Earth. Condolences, sympathy and warm wishes to his family and friends. Sincerely ~ Sheryl DeVore

My wife and I were very saddened to hear the news about Dan.  I have spent the better part of 25 years playing and singing his music.  I learned to play the guitar just so that I could sing his songs, many of which touched me deeply.  To this day, my favorite concert was sitting in the now extinct "Front Row Theatre" in Cleveland, which was a very intimate setting, watching Dan play his guitars and piano, performing his many hits, along with songs from his recent album "Exiles."  This man had such depth to him, and could convey such meaningful messages in his music. We will truly miss him.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jean, and the rest of Dan's family and friends. ~ Kevin & Lori Crawford

Dan, your passing is a great loss for all of us who are left behind, thankful to have experienced the beauty of your craft, the wisdom of your ways. Where you lead now we too shall follow some day. Godspeed. Jean, there seemed to be so little time for the two of you here. Just know that forever is waiting for you both to one day be together again. You came at a time that he needed you most, another gift that can't be re-paid---but true love demands no debt. ~ Marcy

My heart is deeply saddened to hear of Dan's passing.  I had been checking the website recently hoping to hear some good news on his winning his fight with cancer.  His voice is now shining brightly in heaven.  My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and his family.  His music was a gift to the world, his life was a gift to you.  Sincerely ~ Terie Vickery

I read this morning that Dan Fogelberg died in his home in Maine at 6:00am. He was 56 years old, just three years older than me. The irony is not lost on me that his passing a week before Christmas and his song "Same Old Lang Syne". In this song, Dan writes of meeting an old lover in grocery store on Christmas Eve, drinking beer in her car in the parking lot, reminiscing about old times and snow turning into rain. So vivid was the story, I could see myself in the picture.

I was introduced to Dan's music in the mid 70's by my good friend Tim. We were in college at the time. Long hair, wire rimmed glasses, bell-bottom jeans, and what we called waffle-stompers were the wearing apparel of the generation in the Front Range. Souvenirs was the first album (yes, it was vinyl) I heard of Dan's. I was jealous of Dan's straight long hair looking almost Native American on the cover.  One of my first guitar pieces I learned to play was "Gambler". We played it solemnly in the dorm late at night, sitting around smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee. We thought of ourselves as artists but we were just college kids. While we were playing around with music, Dan was creating it, and in a time when there was no internet, word got around remarkably fast and his following grew. Every girl I knew loved. So of course, if there was a chance in hell of getting lucky, a guy was always in good stead if he knew a couple of Fogelberg tunes and of course the odds improved an order of magnitude if he could actually play one of his songs!

It's contemplative nature such as in "Sketches" from his Nether Lands recording still remind me of heart aches I have had in my life or in the title track from Windows and Walls., I wonder if such a fate awaits me as I grow older. Then there is "Gypsy Wind" from his Phoenix recording and the lyric, "I still recall the place, where I first felt your gypsy wind playing on my face" or one that I always turn to when I need to remember my own greatness "Nexus":
Wealthy the spirit that knows its own flight
Stealthy the hunter who slays his own fright
Blessed the traveler who journeys the length of the light

I write this memory as a tribute to Dan, a man I never knew but the nexus across which our paths crossed changed the course of my life for the better over so many years.
