"Though the singer is gone, there still is the truth of his song"
I can't tell you how sad this news makes me. You were a light, Dan. And part of the fabric of my life since Souvenirs, which my first girlfriend shared
with me. I went on to learn guitar and sing inspired by you and your gift.
Your songs have always been a part of my repertoire and your words have filled my holiday cards through the years. When I was in college, I used to
sign off my letters to my girlfriend with quotes from your songs as well as those of Jackson's, Graham's. You will be missed. My love and condolences to
Jean and your family. ~ Rob
To Jean and all Dan's loved ones,
I have loved Dan's music all my life. I am a child of the 70's and I
played his albums over and over. Each year I hear "Same Old Lang Syne", I
end up sitting in the car listening until it's over.
He will be missed and loved for years to come.
I will say a prayer for you Jean.
Love ~ Yvette Lee - High Falls NY
I was so sorry to read the news of Dan's passing this morning. My
prayers go out to his family, friends and loved ones. As much as we fans
love his beautiful music, the loss of this gentle man must be most
excruciating for them. Thank you for the wonderful memories and the
lasting gift of your music, Dan. You will be missed. ~
Sue
Godspeed, Dan. Thank you especially for "Spirit Trail". "Let every
creature I see, be a brother and a friend to me. Let every step that I take, leave
the footprints of a warrior... along the spirit trail". And you did.
So sorry to hear about the passing of such a wonderful person, and singer. I
have always enjoyed listening to his music, good on the ears, and sung with
such passion.
He will be truly missed, but we will always have his music to listen to. What a legend he will always be.
My heart and prayers go out to his friends and family.
God Bless you all.
Sincerely ~

I lost my daddy on October 6th from cancer at the age of 53. He was a big fan of Dan Fogelberg and for his memorial service we played the song "Leader of the Band" to honor and memorialize my daddy, who was a carpenter and patternmaker his entire life. He even was able to see his dream of owning his own business come to life before he was diagnosed with cancer. Our hearts and prayers are with the Fogelberg family at this time, as we are also grieved by what this world has lost in such a fantastic singer/songwriter. There is a tremendous celebration in the heavens on this day - now daddy can meet Dan Fogelberg. My family is so thankful for the contribution that Dan has made over the years in his music. Thank you for sharing with us, Dan.
Love & Peace. ~
The Parkman/ Tidmore Family
I am struck dumb and filled with sadness at the news. Dan's music has
always been an emotional touchstone and has given expression to many
emotions I identified with. Words are inadequate to convey the sense of
helplessness, loss and grief. Sadly, I never had the chance to see him
in concert. His music obviously lives on but those of us who loved his
music and all that it said, will miss what could have been. ~
Richard Winnick
So very sorry to hear of very sad news of Dan's passing. We loved his music
and voice so much over the years.
When the alarm went off this morning, Dan's song "Same Old Lang Syne" was
playing. It's my favorite song this time of year and no matter what I'm
doing, I stop and listen or sing along to the words - it's brilliant.
When the song ended and the dj announced that Dan had passed away
yesterday, my heart sank.
He touched so many of us and I'm grateful to him. I'm so sorry for your
loss. ~ Tina Clark - Billings, Montana
My favorite concert ever - and I've been to many - was Dan Fogelberg's
performance at Kemper Arena in Kansas City one evening many, many years
ago. The place was packed and he came out for 4 encores with flowers
thrown all over the stage. The last song he played with the band was
"Paperback Writer" - I can still hear it...
I am very saddened to hear of Dan's passing today. Thank you for all the
years of meaningful music and I hope you find peace in the afterlife knowing
how many lives you have touched. My condolences to your entire family. ~
Mary from CT
I am truly sorry to lose another talented person of my generation (too
soon). May you rest in peace, Dan. To his family and loved ones, I
send my thoughts, my prayers, and my sincere condolences. May God bless
you all. ~

To All,
I read the news that Dan had passed and couldn't believe it - I didn't
want to believe it. As someone who didn't know him intimately, I can
only imagine what his loved ones are going through.
To me, Dan Fogelberg will always be the most talented and gifted writer
and musician in the world. There are other artists with great ability,
but I believe Dan surpassed them in every aspect. He was and is and
forever will be truly the greatest.
I am so thankful for all that he shared with us, but I mourn for the
unwritten and unsung stories that will be buried with him now. For
reasons unknown, his life was cut short, and he never had the opportunity
to give the world everything he held in his heart and life experience.
To his family, my deepest condolences. May you be comforted with your
memories, and with the countless recordings he left behind. To my
fellow fans, please keep his music alive. Play it often and always with
great reverence and gratitude, for each song he gave us was a piece of
his soul. ~

A true artist and a true inspiration. Music that touched our souls and
lifted our hearts. My hope is that the deep sadness we feel today will pass
as the music that we turned to so often fills us once again. My sincere
sympathies to Dan's family and friends. I too feel like I've lost a
lifelong friend today. ~

Jean,

I heard a song of Dan's last night that my 15 year old daughter was
listening to. His music will live on through the next generation. ~ Holly Vinnola
To Dan's family and friends, It is with deep heartfelt sympathy that I convey my condolences. As I read the sad news of Dan's passing, tears stream down my cheeks and my words seem empty. Dan's words and music touched my soul and always gave me a special "place" to find whatever I needed at the time. I wish you strength and patience as you mourn your tremendous loss and I hope that the knowledge that Dan was loved by so many will bring some solace. I also wish that you can celebrate his gifted life with the full panoply of emotions which touched you when we was alive. With gratitude ~ Barbara F. Stein
Dan,
You were the lyrics to my childhood. You were the one who made me fall
in love with the singer-songwriter genre. Your lyrics pulled me through
so much tough teenaged angst.
You are loved.
May your legacy live on and on and on and on..." longer".
~ Judi Austin - Milwaukee, WI
May God Bless such a man. His love of humanity and nature is so evident in his music. He will live on forever in this. He has been such an inspiration to me since I was young. I would like to just say thank you and hope to meet you someday. With love ~ Babe Catino - Batavia, New York
I know I can't say anymore than anyone else here. I just found out about Mr. Fogelberg's passing, and my radio station was just playing "Same Old Lang Syne" in his honor. His music has inspired me for so many years and will continue to do so, so he will live on forever in my heart. My condolences to his family. Remember, Jean, he is only a breath away. ~

I will carry Dan's music in my heart for the rest of my life. My thoughts and
prayers to the Fogelberg Family. God Bless. ~ Jim Kilburn - St. Louis, Mo.
I learned to play the guitar listening to Dan Fogelberg.
I remember seeing him in concert and how much it meant to hear his songs
performed live.
His songs meant a lot to me and I am very saddened that he has passed.
Let us all live the one life we have been given in a meaningful way.
You will be missed. ~

We are so profoundly sorry. Dan made this world a much better place. He
gave us beautiful gifts of grace, peace and joy and we will always be
grateful.
His music gave us strength and inspiration to be better people. We send our
love and prayers.
I spent my college years listening to the vinyl recording of Dan. I will now
pull out my CD's and reflect on my own, personal "good old days" that I
spent connected to Dan in my own special way ~

Dear Jean and family,
I am so saddened to learn of Dan's death. We are so blessed that part of the
legacy he leaves us is the gift of his amazing music.
My prayers are with you in this overwhelming time of loss. In time, he'll
help you find your smile again.
Blessings to you and yours. ~ Laura McLeod
Dan's music brightened my days, and enlightened my mind. For this I will
be forever thankful to him and for having lived during his time. May God
place Dan's soul at rest, and welcome him to eternal life. ~
Joe Prieto
I am so sad. It is like losing an old friend. Dan's music was so much a part of my family life. When my husband and I were dating, we listened to a lot of Dan's music. Then our kids did too. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. ~
The T's of WA
No music ever touched me the way Dan's music did. I am so sad to see his
creativity forever silenced. May his spirit live on. Thank you Dan for the
music and for making this world a better place in your own way. May God reward
you for doing the work He put you on earth to do. ~ Melissa
Thanks so much Dan..
I heard of Dan's passing this morning and I am sick at heart. An old friend
introduced me to Dan's music in 1976. He played Souvenirs for me and I
'fell in love' with these songs and all that followed. My favorites are "The
Innocent Age" & "The Reach." His music spoke to me, it touched my heart and
soul and helped me through some rough times in my life. Thank you Dan. God's
blessings on you and your family. ~ Michele Yerdon - Syvertsen, New York
Thank you for your music and your inspirational lifting of each of our hearts. I will greatly miss you but will continue to enjoy your gift of music. The saddest word in my heart today is goodbye. ~ Diane
I mourn today a great musician from my home city of Peoria, Illinois.
Like so many others, I have collected, listened to, and cherished his
poetry and gifted note blended together in an audible portrait of him
that has a timeless elegance. Not knowing him personally, I still feel
that I share the loss that others have in his passing. I would not
venture to bring anything of importance except to say that the Dan
Fogelberg I knew can never die. He lives when I sing and shout the words
and melodies he made with his heart, mind, and soul. This beautiful
artwork of his is tribute to an unparalleled devotion to the days of his
life and, borrowing from one of his masterworks, "...in dreams that you
dream along the way." ~
K. Rose (a Phoenix)
I was saddened to hear of his death. His music was the highlight of my teenage years. When everyone else was listening to Quiet Riot and Whitesnake, I was listening to Dan.
My favorite all time song is "Ghost", which is a song that was rarely played.
I know that you have read similar stories but there is one thing is common;he will be truly missed.
Sadly ~
Stephanie
Jean,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Thankfully, Dan's suffering is over and all
that remains is the sweet eternity of holy heaven.where there is no more
illness or sorrow. The bible talks about the beautiful music in heaven. I
have a vision of Dan in a completely healed body singing a love song to
Jesus. I can't wait to hear it one day. Until then, my prayer for you is
that your pain will end and your life will be full until you meet Dan once
again.
Blessings ~
Paul - Houston, Texas
I am so sorry for your loss.
I have always enjoyed Dan's music and will miss him.
Take care. ~

Jean,
Just letting you know our thoughts are with you.
I walked into Leisure Landing Record Shop just outside the campus of LSU in
1972. Playing was Home Free. It had just been released. I was captivated by
the lyrics, melodies and unique voice of Dan. I played the record so much I
had to buy another copy some months later. Like so many people I have many
memories attached to so many of his songs. I am glad we¹re left with his
music.
In our own way we mourn your loss as our own.
Stay well.
A Big Fan ~

I just heard the news on the radio not sure I heard correctly I got onto Dan's
web site. I'm so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. He gave so many years of
wonderful music that will go on forever. The world was a nicer place with him
and his wonderful music in it. ~

My heart is broken, but profoundly touched by the soul and music of Dan Fogelberg.
I had the opportunity a few years ago to hear him as I went with friends and my wife to
The Landmark Theater in Syracuse, NY, for "An Acoustic Evening with Dan Fogelberg".
It was an incredible evening seeing and hearing in person the man whose words and music I had admired for so long.
"The leader of the band is tired," and may his gentle spirit rest in peace.
God Bless you Dan and all your family and friends. ~
Bryan M. Riccardi -

Your music was an inspiration to me through the years.
In 1974 having just arrived in Tucson, AZ I picked up Home Free.
I had never heard your music and I was in the process of making my own
mark in the bars and casitas with my own brand of “folk rock”.
Through the next thirty years, through jobs, births of children, bands,
laughter, tears,
divorce, new love and the emotional pain of my addictions I followed your
career.
At least eight concerts; you were always a staple in my live concert
attendance and on the record shelf
wherever I called home. I remember updating your musical collection from
vinyl to CD’s in the 80’s.
And there were always at least two songs of yours that I covered in my
weekend sets playing
music in the local bars and coffee houses.
I have now come to know that “home” is where the heart is,
as you so eloquently spoke In one of your songs.
In my recovery I have been able to reflect on my journey through life with
your catalogue of songs
as a guide.
Thank you for your passion for life, your poetry in song, and your
connection to the divine.
The circle is unbroken as your music will live in the hearts of my children
and grandchildren.
Much gratitude.
Love & prayers to your family ~

Such a sad, sad day. A beautiful voice, a talented singer/songwriter whose music has been a big part of my life for years. My thoughts and prayers to family and friends. Definitely a living legacy to the" leader of the band." Godspeed Dan
The first time I heard Dan Fogelberg, I was in high school, and no other artist existed for me. His music was the most perfect and such a voice as I had never heard before, life, feelings, memories, all defined by his music. I was lucky enough to see him in concert, and the memory has never faded. I felt very few artists were worth the $, but with Dan, there was no question I am so very sorry for your loss, and I will keep your family in my prayers.
I know you are broken hearted and this is a depth of sorrow never felt before, and again, I am just so sorry for your loss. May God keep you and comfort you, in the many days to come.
Sincerely ~ Beverly
Goodbye, Dan. Your music, and you, will live in my heart. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jean and Dan's family and friends. You do not cry alone. "Oh, I'm missing you." ~
Cal Thomas
You've gone to sing with the angels. Odd thing is, I just
"rediscovered" your music this past week and have played "Same Old Lang
Syne" a million times over to introduce my children to the beautiful
music you created. At 37 years old, I was a youngster when your music
was just beginning to be played so the lyrics and melodies have brought
me comfort and warm memories of my childhood this past week. Thank you
for blessing us with your music and your beautiful voice will live on
forever through your songs. My prayers are with your family. ~ Amy

Hi,
Just a note to say how shocked/saddened I was today, to hear of Dan's
passing. I first picked up on Dan in 1978 when I heard a friend's copy
of Souvenirs. After that I bought up the back catalogue, which in
Ireland was pretty tough going, until the overwhelming success of The
Innocent Age which made his albums more accessible to buy. His music
will live on in the timeless classic songs he recorded. Thank God we
still have them.
Regards ~
Colm O'Neill
I met my husband through Dan Fogelberg's music. I was hooked when I heard "The River" for
the first time. I just lost my husband of 20 years to cancer. Rick was diagnosed about
the same time as Dan and I was so hoping that even though Rick lost his battle, Dan would
survive. I know what he went through to stay on this earthbound and mortal plane. The
treatment for cancer is worse than the disease and the medical profession is clueless.
He must have loved life and his wife very much. I can only hope that maybe Dan and my
husband Rick are somewhere crafting new songs for the angels.
With any life-threatening illness, you value your tomorrows more than gold. I long for
more tomorrows with my husband. Dan left behind a wife who no doubt loved him, but he
left behind so many words and chords that inspired others to find their soul mates. I
will always love him for that. I wish his soul Gods' speed and I wish his wife peace. ~
Jeanne Zierk Moore
"There's a place in the world for a gambler..." I fell in love and married my wife all the while listening to Dan's songs some three decades ago. To the family, we are so very sorry. To his fans, "the leader of the band" is gone, but his music remains. Dan's death is a rude shock, but good can come from it. Put on the Home Free or Souvenirs album and love the ones around you and rekindle the joy we all felt thirty years ago when we were all so young and falling in love.
Dan, you will be missed, but we all know, it is all "part of the plan." ~
Bruce S. Reynolds
Fighting back the tears, I write because I care, but I listened because he cared. I could go on and on about
how I felt when I heard his music; how the words
touched this poets soul; but instead I offer my
heartfelt condolences to his family and my deepest
thanks to you Dan for sharing your gifts. Well
meet beyond this sphere some day I am sure. ~
Mike Carson
Dear Jean,
My heart is saddened to hear of Dan's death.
He was truly my favorite musician. I have all of his albums (mostly on
vinyl) and listen to them
often for encouragement and inspiration. Please accept my humble and
sincerest condolences.
A Fan Forever ~

Dear Jean,
My deepest sympathy to you and Dan's family. Dan gave all of us so much
joy and memories with his music.
I have so many thoughts of all the beautiful songs that have been in my
life for so many years.
Heaven today is filled with so many tender lyrics and melodies being
sung by Dan. ~

I remember a show in the early 70's and have not forgot it and I will not forget Dan.
I am devastated upon hearing of Dan's passing. I don't think there has been
a week that has passed, that I haven't listened to, or played his music over
the last thirty years. I learned to play guitar because I wanted to learn
how to play all of his songs. I wonder if he ever really knew how much his
music touched peoples lives. We will miss you. ~ Jeff
I'm only 33, but the young me and the old me remembers and enjoys your
music.
So much can be said by a person. Though we never had a chance to meet, you touched my life.
Rest in peace and thank you for what you left behind. ~
Brent Nowak
Thank you from the heart for all that you gave, Dan. May the lord keep you and your music at his right hand. With eternal gratitude ~ Jim Del Signore
Jean,
My first introduction to Dan's music was "Part of the Plan" back in '74 and
I've enjoyed everything since. My family's thoughts and prayers are with
you. May God bless you, your family, and Dan. He certainly is healed now. ~
Michael King
I too am heartbroken. A beautiful man who gave us beautiful music. ~

My two brothers and I grew up in Kentucky in Lexington, along with many
other artist' of Mr. Fogelberg's talent Eagles,Poco etc. The impact of his
masterful tunes has endured all of our lives. I can recall going into the
Lexington Center Shops at 15 years of age and going into a place where you
can record a song of choice and put it onto a cassette tape. The song of
choice, you may ask? It was "Same Old Lang Syne". Oh how I tried and tried to
emulate the feel and inflection of a man's voice who clearly had lived that
indelible piece of music. Your contribution to popular music is a great one
and is great in my own musical journey. My brothers and I share in many
peoples feelings, we are sorry you have to go much to soon. But so
shall you sing with Angels. ~ Chris Currens
To the family and friends of Dan Fogelberg,
I was saddened to hear the news of Dan's passing today. 21 years ago my
wife and I met and she introduced me to Dan's music and lyrics. We
instantly shared something in common that we both loved that was thought
provoking and emotional inspiring. Seven days later we were engaged and
we are married still today. We continue to create new and share our
memories with Dan's music as a soundtrack.
Not many can be described as one of kind, and Dan Fogelberg is truly
that. He will be missed, but he will never be forgotten. His words
echo on when he sings "Be on Your Way". "maybe someday we will meet
again". ~

A very, very sad day. Dan gave all his fans the great gift of his beautiful voice and awesome talent and we will cherish that always. My deepest regrets are with Dan's family and friends at this time. ~ Emilie Fusco - Wheeling, W V
I loved Dan Fogelberg and his music. Although I never met him directly, I
was fortunate enough to attend a concert many years ago in Florida. At one
point he dismissed the band, sat down at the piano and said, "Now let's do
some pretty music." What followed is among my favorite musical memories
ever. I am thankful to God for the man and the music and I hope to
experience him leading a heavenly band in the next life. Blessings to Jean
and all who loved him.
Thanks for the music, Dan. ~
Rev. Jim Merritt
Farewell Dan. You left the world of music a rich and inspiring legacy. Personally, your music has given me many fond memories and welcome feelings of my youth in the 70s and 80s. The performance of yours with Timothy B. Schmit that I attended around 1993 at the Brady Theater in Tulsa, OK will always be carried with me as one of my favorite concerts. Thanks Dan. ~

Dan Fogelberg was one of three strong influences in my growth as a musician.
I remember the first time I saw him in concert in Columbia, MO at Mizzou
back in 1981. I still hear his influence in my music today. I cried this
morning when I heard the news. My heartfelt thanks to a man who followed his
own path and gave so many hours of listening pleasure to the world. Though
you may be gone, your musical legacy will never be silenced or forgotten,
at least by this soul. Prayers and sympathies to Jean and the rest of your
family. ~

Dear Mr. Fogelberg: Thank you for providing the soundtrack to my life from Jr. High School to the present. Your music and especially your words were far and away above any other, and I am so grateful for the way they made me feel. The world will definitely be a poorer place without you in it, but thank you for leaving behind something of such beautiful value. You will be missed. Love ~ Jenifer Jones
The world was richer for having him, and now poorer for having lost him. A unique insight into life he carried, a part of me died also when I heard the news. Way too soon, Dan, way too soon. ~

I wish to express my most sincere condolences to the friends and family
of Dan Fogelberg. Words cannot express how much his music and
inspirational message have given me the courage to carry on through some
of the darkest moments in my life; and how his music also punctuated
some of the most joyous moments in my life. He was and will continue to
be the most admired and influential people in the music world. He is
now free and I will always remember him as a sensitive and valiant
songwriter and performer. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him
and especially by his fans.
Warmest Regards ~ Tom Schifani -

"... and he gave to me a gift I know I never can repay" . How
truly appropriate. I missed Dan by a few years at the U of I, but never
missed a record and went to every concert within my reach. His music
was like an anthem for my life as well, so many of his songs touched me,
guided me, made me think and sometimes cry. "Nether Lands" was played
at every camping trip I went on. "Longer" was the song at my wedding.
My kids grew up to the Innocent Age, and I sang "Leader of the Band "
to my own father . My "prized possession" is the D-41 that I just
bought after wanting one for as long as I knew that is what he played.
I certainly hope Dan realized "somewhere along the road" the impact he
has had on people such as me, not only for the absolutely beautiful
music he composed but by his words that made us smile, think, remember,
hope and cry. Dan, in his way was one of the 'leaders of the band" which
was our generation. The world is a less graceful place today. ~
Roger F. Wilson
Jean:
May God Bless you.
Dan will be missed.
I met your husband years ago when I was just a kid working in FM radio back in NY. My wife of 25 years and I have two kids and are now in Atlanta.
No longer in radio however Dan's music and words have always touched me, my life and my heart.
The Innocent Age was a masterpiece.
He was a good soul.
Our heartfelt condolences. ~
Ron Rizzi
What a wonderful and talented musician and poet. I've enjoyed your music
for many years, and have been to two of your concerts in Atlanta, which
were both unforgettable. God bless you and your family. ~ Geri, Georgia
Hello.
I wish I would have known that Mr. Fogelberg was sick. I would have written this sooner. I grew up in Colorado and my parents owned the only record store in our town. We played his first four albums over and over to our customers to spread Dan's beautiful music to everyone we could. One of my best memories of my childhood was waking up to "To The Morning" (from Home free) on Saturday mornings. My hippy mom would play it really loud and we would all wake up and smile.
I was fortunate enough to see three Dan Fogelberg concerts. They were incredible. When I was a kid, I learned almost ever song on Home Free and Souvenirs on my guitar. I can't imagine how many hours in my life have been spent listening to his music. I've had to continually re-purchase LP's, tapes, and CD's because they were worn out or damaged. I will always treasure his memory. I wish to send my deepest condolences to his family. He truly touched my life. ~

Oh my God,
I never ever thought that I would be so profoundly moved by the death of a
man I had never met before, but then I realized I had.
Over the years I met him through the poignancy of his lyrics coupled so
gracefully with his music.
Every time I listened to "Nether Lands", I felt like it was Christmas. "To
The Morning" was the first song that served as an introduction for me to Mr.
Fogelberg, I sang it with fellow band members at my sister's baccalaureate
mass from high school.
I went on to learn, play and sing some of his most poignant and
inspirational tunes. Needless to say it came as a huge shock to me last night when a dear
friend from the past e-mailed me with this tragic news.
I applaud Mr. Fogelberg for his "sermon" after his personal remarks on his
web-page and wish his loved ones my deepest heartfelt sympathies for their loss."Be on your way;
Maybe Someday we will meet again."
With a heavy heart and a most grateful ear. ~

Off to the "Nether Lands." Peace Dan.
I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to Jean and all the
Fogelberg
family. I pray that God will give you the peace that passes all
understanding. I pray that you will know His comfort and feel His loving
arms wrapped around you holding you close. I mourn and weep with you as
I'm sure all of Dan's fans and friends do. Dan was an incredibly gifted
man with the ability to touch one deep in their heart. I treasured his
music and legacy before, I will do so even more now. Rest in eternal
peace Dan. God Bless you all ~ LKG in Texas
What a wonderful story teller. His songs were stories. They were void
of
ego and void of any self serving purpose. They were stories to be told and
shared. As a musician, I will miss such a prolific, humble and moving
musical story teller.
I'm sure he is the hands of the Divine Spirit illuminating the presence of
all spirits with his gift of word and music. ~ Lisa Moyers
Dan - I still can't believe the news. I am so saddened today. Your music
shaped me into the musician I am today. I drove to the Rocky mountains
listening to your music, inspired by it. Thank You for all the joy you
brought to my life hearing your beautiful voice, the stories and messages
you shared with us. God Bless and Peace.
How to sum up your feelings in words? Dan knew and did it passionately.
For so many people to love this man, he was truly blessed. Tears fall
now. Forever in our hearts will be his beautiful music. I am hurting
with you all. Peace be with him & all who hold him close.
So very sad today. A beautiful light has gone out. ~
Karen Smilen, Lake Worth, FL
I am so sorry for the passing of Dan. He brought joy and happiness to
everyone who knew his music. He will be missed. When I think of Dan
Fogelberg, I have only fond memories of good times with his music. From the
first, and only time, I saw him play in Portland, Maine in 1981 to driving
in my car and a song of his comes on. It is all nice. ~
John H. Kent
It was always the music, just the music. Always a friend , always a fan ~ Kenny (play on)
Dear Jean,
Your husband's lyrics and music have moved my soul since I was a young girl growing up in
the 70's. I wept this morning when I heard the news of his passing as though I lost a
dear close friend. All the nights his songs kept me company, all the joyful songs that
brought me happiness and smiles. The world was a better place because of his presence.
God bless you and your family and keep you in His care during this time. ~

Dan Fogelberg's music is woven into the fabric of my formative years,
and so I feel that I've lost a bit of myself today. I thank him for his
lyricism, intelligence, and gentleness. Balm to an evolving psyche in a
cynical world.
It is fairly impossible to put into words what the music of Dan Fogelberg has
meant in my life. My older brother, often quite distant in my life, introduced
me to his music early on through Souvenirs, and this opened up the one common bond we shared. When dealing with personal conflicts with my father, listening to "Leader of the Band" late one night in the darkness somehow put things into perspective and allowed me to ease into a better relationship, so that I was able to appreciate his impact on my life and fully enjoy his last years with us. "Longer" was the song my wife and I picked to express our feelings for one another at our wedding nearly 25 years ago; a song that moves us deeply to this day. Intentionally or not, Dan's music was - and still is - a constant thread weaving my family's lives together. It is as if we have lost a dear relative - he will truly be missed.
I am sorry to hear of Dan's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. I
discovered his music as a Senior at an Ohio College in 1978. His lyrics and musical
ability left a lasting impression. It was a pleasure seeing him in concert several
times. His dedication to environmental causes was admirable. God Bless. Thank you. ~

Dan Fogelberg kept me good company as I made the 7 hour trip back and
forth from Lewisville, Texas to Texas Tech in the late seventies and
eighties. I didn't know anything about his illness until I heard about
his death on the news last night. This morning, I brought down my Dan
Fogelberg albums and put them around the Christmas tree as a little
tribute. I'll never forget all those wonderful songs Dan sang. It's
been many years since I heard them, but it's now time to start playing
them again. Thank you Dan for some of the most beautiful music and
lyrics. I have many, many fond memories of listening and singing along
with your songs. May God bless you in heaven and bless your loved ones
here on earth. ~

You're "Home Free" now. You will never be forgotten.
A great American artist has left his imprint for all of us to remember him by. Thank you Dan. Peace.
Dan's gift of his music and lyrics have deeply touched my soul more than any
other musician or poet. He will remain in my heart forever. Dan will
continue to live with all those of us he touched in soul and spirit. I just
feel such sadness that he will not be here to enjoy the precious times that
have been taken from him too soon. My heart bleeds for his wife, Jean. I
have always loved following his life's journey through his expressions in
music. He really painted a picture with his stories. I could tell he had
really found a true love with her and my thoughts and prayers go with her
during this healing process.
I shall miss you Dan. Bless your soul and thank you again for the gift you
have given me. It is so hard to say goodbye.
With Love ~ Beverly Shea.
Dan has left such a rich and lasting legacy with his fantastic music. What
a songwriter! His family should be so proud, as he has touched the lives of
so many. He will always be cherished by his adoring fans. Thank you for
your music, Dan. You left us too soon, but you left us with so much.
Dan's passing really saddens me. I was a fan for thirty years and will
continue to be one. His music brought me through many rough times and many good
times. I hope that he didn't suffer too much and that he is in a better
place now. May he rest in peace and his family find solace.
Stay strong. ~

On Sunday 12/16 @ 6:00 a.m. my alarm went off to the sound of Dan's
"Christmastime". I chose that song because it's always uplifting and
gets my day started off right. I was so saddened to hear the news since
Dan was a friend to so many. Dan was a wonderful soul and so gracious to
share his gift of music with the world.
Jean and family, I am so very sorry that Dan has gone and wish you and
your family peace and comfort in the seasons ahead. Thank you so very
much for sharing him with his fans for all of these years.
I am sure that his voice will lead the angels in song.
Peace be with you. ~

I had heard Dan's music many times on the radio, but didn't become a huge fan until I married my husband, Tom. He absolutely loved the beauty and depth of Dan's music. Through him I learned to appreciate that Dan Fogelberg was more than just a musician, he was a poet. He shared his ups and downs with us, his fans. He allowed us into his personal life through his music. We learned about his life, his loves and his sorrows in each of his wonderful albums and CDs. He spoke to our hearts and will always remain there. We will miss him terribly and pray that his family will look to God for strength during this very difficult time in their lives.
My deepest and heartfelt sympathies go to his family and friends ~

I was so saddened to hear of Dan's untimely death. My name is Lisa Morgan and I was and still am a huge fan. I have every album and will listen to him all day as a tribute.
I called my sister last night to tell her of the sad news and we both were crying reminiscing about all the great music that got us through the 70's and 80's. His music was just so beautiful and he seemed like a beautiful person as well living life to the fullest in the most beautiful places in the US.
It sounds like he put up a brave fight with dignity and respect. I for one had no idea he was sick. I pray that he is now free of pain and at peace. My sympathies go out to his wife Jean and his other family members and friends. I think every girl growing up in the 70's wanted to be Dan Fogelberg's wife, you are the envy of us all Jean. May God give you peace as well. Sincerely ~ Lisa Morgan
I have been reflecting on the moments of great peace that Dan's music
has brought to my live. I hope that same peace has now found him. I
wish peace and love to his family. ~

Dan, your music will live in hearts forever. How blessed we were to have
your music. May you rest in peace. Our love and prayers are with you

It is impossible to convey in words how much influence one person can have in
the lives of other people. I feel I have a blood brother forever in my love for music. What Dan had to say in his music will always ring in my heart. I will always be looking so close at the music he composed, to learn in some small way how to bring those techniques into my own music. Dan will always be my inspiration to learn the rules well enough to know how and when to break them. My heart bleeds along with the family, as well as billions of fans, at the loss we all suffer at this time. And I long for the time when we will all be singing together on a much grander stage. My love goes out to each and every one of you. ~ Brian Roos
