My husband and I are absolutely heart-broken. We have loved Dan for all of
our lives it would seem except he's only 8 years older than we are so that
can't actually be so. His heart was in his talent and he was truly the
"Leader of the Band". My husband started playing the guitar, by ear, when
he was very young and patterned himself after Dan and James Taylor. He
does sound like either one depending upon the song. But in his heart he
has always loved Dan...they have a kindred spirit when it comes to the
way they see the world. The beauty and majesty of it all. Dan has
transported our hearts with his music into places only he and God tread.
We will miss him here on this earth but will hear him as an Angel on high.
Thank you, Dan, for the love you shared with all of us for so many
years...you are gone too soon but are in a much better place than
this. We love you and we will carry you in our hearts always. Goodbye,
for now but not forever.
~ Robin and Bobby Williams
I just heard the news on the radio, and I stopped to say a prayer for Dan. Such sad news, his music provided the background to so many memories with friends. "Longer" was my wedding song. I loved Dan and his music. I have fond memories of many Dan Fogelberg concerts back in the 70's. He will be missed, but his music will live on, especially in my heart. Rest in Peace Dan. ~

My eyes are still filled with tears as I try to write this. This man inspired
me. Over the years I've spent countless hundreds of hours learning his songs
and playing his songs for my audiences. I never met Dan, but I felt that on
some level I knew him. We were the same age. It's as though a light has gone
out and at this moment I feel a profound sense of loss; my heart is broken.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and to all those who, like
myself, have been so deeply touched and moved by his music and by his
spirit. To those of you who knew Dan, as I did, through his music we were
blessed!
Thank you Dan. ~
Jim
Dan was a HUGE part of the soundtrack of my college years and my
formative years as an adult. "Souvenirs" and "Captured Angel" will always be
on my short list of favorites. His voice and his songs were such a
source of tranquility for so many that I sincerely hope his passing was
peaceful and painless. It deserved to be that way.

Dan, your music was the best and touched me in ways I will never be
able to express. Thanks so much.
To the morning. ~ Mark Sullivan
Fame, fortune, celebrity. We see it every day in every form of media.
And when someone who travels in these circles passes on, we note it with
a nod but not with much more. When I heard of Dan Fogelberg's death
this morning, however, it hit me hard, and I'm not sure why that is.
Now I know: Dan's lyrics and music were part and parcel of my college
days in Gainesville, Florida. I can recall as though it were yesterday
my returning to school from my old girlfriend's home in Orlando with
"Part of the Plan" blaring from my a pair of old stereo speakers that I
had propped up in the back seat of my '67 Nova. And "Leader of the Band"
is a song stolen from the pages of my life and my relationship with my
own father.
My thoughts and prayers are with Dan's family and fans. I will miss
Dan's presence.
~ Roger W. Yoerges
The Heavenly Choir received the greatest of Christmas gifts yesterday at 6:00am.- the gift of song as only Dan Fogelberg can create. To Jean, Dan's family and friends I offer my sincerest of condolences. My heart is full of sorrow at the thought of Dan's gift being silenced but what a wonderful gift he gave us in his recordings which will live on. I am so grateful that I was able to hear Dan perform live numerous and each concert was a memorable event.
So to you, Dan, thank you for the songs that touched my soul. Rest in peace my friend. ~ Debi R.
The first cassette tape I ever bought for myself was The Innocent Age.
Dan's music has been a big part of my life. He was a great talent and
will be missed by many.

Dan will be sadly missed. I'm grateful for his wonderful contribution to the music industry. His dedication was an inspiration to me. His music knew how to capture the feelings that I felt. Thank you Dan, your legacy will live forever in my heart. A loyal listener; fan. ~ Neka Giles
I feel like I lost a best friend...and in a way I have. Dan has been with
me through the good times and the rough times for over 30 years. God Bless
you Dan and God Bless you Jean...my thoughts and prayers are with you. ~ May
Picking up the LA Times this morning I was shocked and saddened to hear of Dan's passing. I knew that he was struggling with cancer but still could not believe that he was not with us any longer. Back in the mid-70's as a junior high schooler Dan was the first concert I ever attended (at the Universal Amphitheater in LA). His music has been with me ever since and in more recent years I was happy to share his poetic lyrics and beautiful harmonies with my daughters. At Dan's insistence I was tested for prostate cancer recently (cancer-free thankfully) and am committed to being tested yearly, a legacy I owe to the "Leader of the Band." Dan may you rest in God's presence and peace, and may the Lord comfort your wife and family during this difficult time of loss.

To Jean and Family
I am completely in shock and in deep sadness in learning of his passing this
morning. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I never
had the pleasure of seeing him live and remember reading about his diagnosis
with prostate cancer. I really wanted to see him tour because my wife and I
would have been there! His music has touched so many including my wife and I.
We will light a candle of remembrance tonight and play his wonderful music.
God has added an awesome voice to his choir today and what a sound it must
be. Now Dan can be joined once again with the "Leader of the Band" forever!!!
Godspeed.
~ Rhett & Amy
When I heard of Dan's passing, I picked up my guitar and started playing his
songs. "Part of the Plan", "Next Time", "Old Tennessee", they kept coming.
His music meant so much to us in the callow days of youth. I remember going
to the Anti-nuclear demonstration on the steps of the Capitol Building in
Washington DC following Three Mile Island. Dan played "Gambler" on
acoustic guitar with several hundred thousand of us singing "Let it Shine"
along with him. It was a beautiful moment with a beautiful man.
Thank you so much for everything. You and your music will forever remain
"among my souvenirs". Bless you.
~ Jim Kirby
Thank you Dan...For your music, your inspiration, and
your time with us...I'll see you in the Heavens. ~
Paul David Williams
P.S. I'll play one for you at my next gig.
Dan's music moved me through those years in college and law school when
you are trying to determine what is important and what you should really
hold dear. His music and his songwriting legacy will continue to
encourage, inspire and move me to a higher plane of existence than I
ever thought possible. He was and continues to be a gift to all of us
and the world. He will never be gone as long as the music plays on.
As the daughter of a father who was able to survive prostate cancer, I
say with my heart and a special understanding, God Bless Jean and the
rest of the Fogelberg family and friends. You have a wonderful legacy
to celebrate and cherish. Thanks for sharing him with us all. ~
Pam Johnson Woods
There are no words to explain how saddened I am about Dan's untimely
death. He truly was an inspiration to millions and music has taken a
devastating blow after his death. My heart goes out to Jean and the rest
of his family as I know this is hard on them as well, but I'm sure he is
up above jamming with all of the greats that have gone before him.
Though Dan may be gone I am very grateful that we still have the
masterpieces he left behind.
Thanks,
~ Joe Bronikowski-

To the Fogelberg Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I had the pleasure to see Dan in concert a couple of times. I will miss those future opportunities.
To Dan: Thank you for your music. I am grateful I will still be able to listen to you.

All of us, from dust to dust, we all become forefathers by and by.
Dan, it was with surprise, yet a sense of relief, that I heard of your passing this (Monday) morning. It's a beautiful, brisk, not-a-cloud-in-the-sky winter morning here in Richmond, Virginia. My ride to work included "Bones in the Sky", "Ever On", "Forefathers", "The Reach", and "River of Souls". I'm trying really hard not to tear up too much at work today, but it's really hard. You've been an instrumental -- pun very much intended -- part of my life since the late 1970s, and I will miss you greatly as the years go on. Thank goodness you left such a legacy of material to remember you by. I'm thankful for the few times I got to meet you after concerts, your music that carried me through some of the hardest times of my life (including my own mother's gallant fight with spine cancer that took her at age 49 when I was 19 years old), and your always soulful message of self-sought spirituality, harmony with nature and the never-ending battle between love and that which would claim to be love. As a writer myself, I will miss your incredible ability to transform mere lyrics into soulful passages that didn't just carry your music -- they gave it wings upon which it soared. We've all waited with hope that your affliction would turn around. Many of us are shocked right now. As you said in Hearts in Decline, "It's going to take some time" for the true loss to sink in. I wish your family all my love in their grieving process, and I hope they will realize just how much we are all there with you and them right now. Your music made us all part of something much greater than a singer and his fans, and that relationship will go on for years to come. Funny, I was just thinking about that on my way to work. Your music is now history -- never to be sung by its creator again. How will we remember you? How will we ensure your legacy? It's time to get out the CDs and give them all a listen again, for every song has another message now -- or at least many of us will feel those chords and rhymes with new meaning. There will be tears, joy and sorrow, but let us all remember we're crying for ourselves. Dan has reached that place to which we all aspire.
To my fellow fans: Let's keep the websites going and the memories flowing. To Dan: Godspeed. Thank you for the music. Thank you for the memories. Ever On, Dan. Ever On. ~ Meade Daffron - Richmond, Virginia, USA
Dear Jean,
My heart goes out to you as my public radio station is playing "The Raven Flies" in the
background ... high in the Colorado mountains 22 years ago
a dear friend played "Longer" on his guitar at our wedding as the snow fell..... truly
a special song & day for all. Dan's memory will always be with
us as we play that special song each and every year. Take care. ~
Denise Newberry
His was the pivotal music of my teenage years. "Twin Sons of Different Mothers" was the text of my life at that time. I know that his songs will live on forever in my memories of those times. My sincere condolences to all of his family and friends. ~
Pam in Massachusetts
Nether Lands was a pivotal album for me; the words meant so much and helped
me to feel less alone during a difficult time. I hope Dan went in peace. My
condolences to his family.
Blessings to everyone in the Fogelberg family. Dan wrote many songs that
will endure for the rest of time. Quite a legacy when you think about
it. I pray that his soul is with God in heaven. Thanks Dan, for making
life a little brighter.
~ Doug Garrett
Dan, you've been with me on my life's journeys, up the majestic peaks and down into the desolate valleys. Your music is a part of me, and has touched a chord deep inside me for as long as this weary soul can remember. Thank you. ~ Jim
Dan Fogelberg and Fools Gold was the last act I ever saw at the
Waterbury Palace before they closed up in the in early 80's. He was
(surprisingly) a rocker when he played live. I saw him several times in
the 70's and he played his hits and some softer stuff, but he always
had a great band with him on the road and they could really play. I
remember him opening for the Eagles on 5/15/75 and he tore the
Springfield Civic Center up... It was (at least in my mind) one of the
few times where the opening band blew the headliner out of the water. I
thought the Eagles were very weak that night. Anyway, here's to a guy
who was a rocker in balladeer's clothing. The album with Tim Weisberg
was always one of my favorite 8-tracks too. Thanks Dan for providing
me and my wife Cindy with half a dozen great concerts back in the day.
We will miss you.
Dear Jean, Mother and Family,
Feel absolutely devastated.
This afternoon I listened to the "Christmas Record", thinking of Dan one more time, and still afraid of his silence.
I was a great fan of Dan, unfortunately not enough known throughout France.
He'll continue to live inside us, I'm sure, so close he is from our souls.
God bless him forever. My deepest sympathy to all of you. ~
Dan Ar Wern
I am EXTREMELY saddened to hear of the death of singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg. Music has always been very healing to me. Every song tells a story, especially Dan's songs. I will ALWAYS be a huge fan of his. Dan, if you can hear me bud, rest in peace and God Bless! You will be missed. I will admit that I have been shedding tears since first hearing the news of your passing. Just for the record to anyone reading this...Real men DO cry! ~ Tim Roberson - 41, Glassboro, NJ.
I am very sorry for the loss of Dan Fogelberg. He was visionary in his music, and will always be remembered. The 70's and 80's generation lost an icon. I think it is also a wonderful idea to create a memorial fund in Dan's name. I am sorry he left us at such a young age.
I am so sad to hear of Dan's passing. He was such an inspiration to me
while I was growing up. To this day, I still listen to his music. My
condolences to Jean and the rest of the Fogelberg family. A great and
wonderful voice and spirit has ascended to the heavens. He will always
be remembered as the voice that got me through some hard times in high
school and college. God bless you, Jean!!!
Farewell to one who touched me through music and lyrics. A life too short,
but everlasting.
As sure as the Kentucky Derby "Run for the Roses" will continue forever, so
to will your life's work and gifts to us all.
~ Bruce - Syracuse, NY
God Speed to you Dan on this, your last journey. May your loved ones be
comforted by all the joy your music has brought to others and will
continue to bring. Your music lifted me up in times when I needed it. I
am grateful that I had the chance to see you perform and sing along with
you. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. ~

I am stunned and saddened to hear of the news of Dan's death. His music touched me from my college days in the 70's until today. My wife and I fell in love to "Longer". 27 years later we are still in love. Despite his passing I can hear him singing, "high on this mountain the clouds down below, I'm feeling so strong and alive".
God bless his family and his memory.
~ Jeff Cherry -
League City, Texas
My very sincere condolences Jean.
I was blessed to have shared the stage some time and music with Dan. I learned the
peaceful side of art through him.
The world has lost another peaceful minstrel. My prayers and loving thoughts go to you
Jean and to the wonderful memory of Dan.
May you find some peace and solitude in your loss.
~ Tino Gonzales
I first saw Dan in concert in Salt Lake City in 1975. I fell in love with his music. I saw him many times over the years and the last being in NYC. I will always love his work. My children and I would sing along to his songs and we had a deep love for his work and it integrated into our family life.
I send my deepest condolences to his wife and family. His legacy lives whenever we play his lovely music.
Blessings... ~

Dear Jean,
I am truly saddened to hear of Dan's passing. I know there are never really any words that can truly comfort and console you. All I can say is that I wish you peace and love.
I will always keep Dan's music in my heart and my head and will always feel great joy when I hear his wonderful voice and guitar.
I know that the heavens are even more like paradise with his beautiful music filling the air.

I will miss hoping for another "Longer", I will never think of the Kentucky
Derby without hearing "Run for the Roses" in my heart, I resolve to continue my
drives through the vastness of the Rocky Mountains with out "High Country
Snow" playing on the CD player in the Jeep...and I will still weep through every
playing of each album, 8 track, cassette, CD and download of Dan's music.
Carly Simon says in her "Love is Immortal":
Love is immortal
and Life is eternal
and death is only a horizon
and the horizon is nothing
save the limit of our sight.
Dan has merely crested the horizon....He has climbed to the top of one of his
precious Rocky mountains and hiked to the other side. We cannot see
him...but it doesn't say anything about a limited life...only our limited sight.
So, since we cannot see him, we can keen our ears towards the heavens and hear
all the music he has left us. To Jean and his family...thank you for sharing
him with us. Thank you for all the time he spent in the studio recording the
music we love...when he could have been holding you. We are grateful. ~ Kate
and Jeff Robertson (Stone River Artists)
To the family and friends of Dan, I wish you the best. He was an amazing
artist. His music brought me joy and comfort depending on what I needed at
the time. He will be greatly missed.
Dan, the passing of a great musician usually gives me
occasion to pause. Yours allowed me the time this
morning to travel back to 1981 Kauai sharing with my
friends Scott, Judy and Julie, this incredibly
evocative music by Dan Fogelberg. I had listened to
"Nether Lands" in Alaska the year before and thought it
added to my feelings of wonderment as I traveled
through such a beautiful place. Wherever I visited, I
brought Dan and shared him with the people I loved. I
still hear you, you haven't left us. ~ Royce in Chico.
I have every one of Dan's albums from the start to finish. As a musician I am
very sad to hear of him passing away. He has inspired so many people. Touched
us in the deepest of ways emotionally which the hallmark of a great artist.
My condolences to his wife and family. As I travel through Illinois by his
home town to live here in Fairfield Iowa I am reminded of his song "Illinois".
I am doing a benefit concert on May 19th "2008" in Fairfield Iowa and will
dedicate " Dancing Shoes" as a memory of how gentle and loving of a soul he was
and still is.
~ Lou Valentino
Dan Fogelberg's music has been in my life for decades. My condolences

Rock on, Dan, you will be missed.

I'm deeply saddened by the loss of Dan's light. His music touched me at

Dear Fogelberg Family,
Dan's music was the BEST!!! I will remember his music always!!
Prayers are coming your way.
~ Vicki Carter
To say that I am devastated at Dan's passing is the understatement of the year.
His music was an essential part of my adolescence; when I was growing up, his voice and his music portrayed much of what I both thought and felt as a young man growing into adulthood. With his passing, I have lost a part of my own past.
However, in a sense, Dan will live on in the memory of all who treasured what he brought to this world. Count me among those who will treasure both his music and his memory until I go into my own final sleep.
Godspeed, Dan.
~ Robert J. Barron
During my 18th summer, I worked at the Olympic National Park in Washington State. I was a waitress/hostess/front-desk clerk etc. at Lake Crescent Lodge. I brought along my turntable and tiny speakers, and fell in love with Nether Lands that summer. It is a strong, enduring love, which continues nearly 30 years later. Farewell to one of the great ones.
May he rest in peace. His music was an inspiration to all. He really
will live on forever. ~

My condolences, Jean, on your great loss! God Bless, Dan -- thanks for the music!
The world is so much more empty today, but what a reunion there must be on
the other side! Dan, the music and inspiration you left us will keep you in
our hearts and minds always, and we are grateful for the time we knew you. Rest
well, my friend. Jean, may the trail rise up to meet you, may your heart
rejoice in song, may the skies be fair above you, as you journey ever on. Our
thoughts are with you.
~ Marco
Dear Dan's Family! I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Dan was a wonderful musician and even though I've never met him, it was as though I new him. He would be a good friend. Dan lives on with God and the Angels. His music proofed that he followed what God wanted him to do. God bless you all. ~ Sarah Bergstrom - Hope Mills, North Carolina. You Rock Dan Fogelberg.
The song "Longer" sustained me as a young woman. I dreamed that someone as
warm, handsome and wonderful as Dan would come into my life and sweep me off
my feet. His warm voice spreads over you and makes you feel safe and loved.
He was loved and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him and heard
his beautiful words and voice.
~ Vicki Keyes
We lost a great artist, musician and spirit yesterday...much too soon. His last gift to
us, "Full Circle", says a lot. Peace to Dan and his family. ~ Wes Waugh - Boone, NC
Your talent and voice will be deeply missed. I thank you for your songs. ~

I heard the news on KSL last night. What can I possibly say? I saw Dan every
time he came to SLC. My very best to Jean and all who knew him best. What
a great life of inspirational music that will live on in the eternities!
Husband, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Innovative Artist, Poet, Storyteller, Missionary, Ambassador, Visionary, Witness and Warrior. Dan has left a living legacy to all of us and all future generations. His life and music was his sacred "Offering" of love and hope. Ho Mitakyue Oyasin-All My Relations ~ Sheri Cline - Anacortes, WA
My prayers and deepest sympathy go out to the Fogelberg family at this time.
I was a fan from the
minute my friend introduced me to his album "Souvenirs"....Dan's music
touched my soul- that was some
30 years ago. To this day every time I listen to his music, as I did when I
was a mere 20 year old....I
smile and sing along. Dan's music brought me comfort then, and still does
today. We were lucky to have
him and his true talent in this world.
~ Sheryl
No other singer/songwriter has ever touched me with their music as Dan
Fogelberg has. Sadly, I did not discover his beautiful music until 1981,
but the sounds and the messages filled a place in my soul that will
remain filled even though the messenger is no longer with us. Please
accept my humble words of sympathy for your loss and know that neither
he nor his music will be forgotten.
Sincerely and with love ~
Wanda
