Through your wonderful site I have often garnered
news of Dan, his music and his life and now, heart
wrenchingly, the sad news of his passing.
My sincere
condolences to Dan's wife, family, friends and fans
throughout the world.
Thank God for the legacy of Dan's wonderful music
and my own personal regret was that I was never
able to see him 'live' in concert in the UK.
I shall now go home after work and, given the time
of year in which we find ourselves, play yet again
Dan's beautiful Christmas Album as a reminder of
all that has gone before.
He will be much missed in my household. ~

I thank him for his ethereal masterpieces
and for his truly unique output of artistic air he would breathe into a somewhat lacking music scene, and how they have helped shape me as a fellow artist of self-expression. May he find liberation in the temporary death of his body.
I have tears in my eyes as I type this. Such a loss yet such a wonderful
legacy. I feel
like I've lost a friend. My thoughts are with Jean and his family. Vaya con dios, mi
amigo.. ~

"One last time sing that old song we used to know, but this time sing a
little more slowly" - "The Last Nail"
"Once in a vision
I came on some woods and stood at a fork in the road.
My choices were clear yet I froze with the fear of not knowing which way to go.
One road was simple acceptance of life, the other road offered sweet peace.
When I made my decision my vision became my release" - "Nether Lands"
~ Tom Williams
My father was a band director in a school in Tennessee. At the time he
retired after 39 years of teaching, I sent him a letter sharing my thoughts
about the legacy he had created for me, and for his students. I was
fortunate to be able to use many of the lyrics from Dan Fogelberg's "Leader of the Band" as a foundation for my dad's letter. It was very easy
for me to write that letter, because so much of the lyrics of "Leader of
the Band" were applicable to what I wanted to say to my dad at the time.
As my dad passed away about a year and a half ago, I have found that each time I hear "Leader of the Band" it invokes very special memories for me
of what he meant to me and those with whom he had contact.
I was saddened to hear today of Dan Fogelberg's passing, and my thoughts,
prayers, and condolences go out to those close to him. May you take some
comfort in knowing how much the legacy of Dan and his music has meant to
others. ~
Bob
Thank you Dan for giving us all the gift of music. Your songs are in our
souls forever. It is with great sadness that I say goodbye and hope that
someday I will get to meet the leader of the band.
Sincerely ~
John Michael Long
I think this about sums it up: "It matters not how a man dies, but how he lives. --
Samuel Johnson". To a great musician and person. Dan has touched my heart with his gift and will not be

Jean, Brunswick, ME
Thank you for all the years of fantastic music. It was an honor to see you
in concert many times. Peace be with you and your family at this difficult time. ~
Michael Machuzak
My heartfelt wishes to you Jean and all of Dan's family.
I've been listening to Dan's music since 1974, his music and voice have
impacted my life for many years. He has been there through good times as well as
not so good times. His songs told stories that touched my heart and soul.
He was truly a gift to this earth! To leave a legacy of music as Dan did
that touched so many in one lifetime .. is priceless. His music will go on as
well as his spirit.
Thanks Dan for everything!
To the music world and everyone who had listened to this artist - we have lost
one of the most talented songwriters of all time. His lyrics and melodies
always brought introspection and hope. His spirit and music will live
forever. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jean and the Fogelberg family. Forever On ~
Jeff, Newbury, MA
Sadness engulfs me today as I sit and reflect on the memories Dan Fogelberg
has given me.
Dan's words and music will continue to be a part of my everyday life as it
has been for the past 35 years. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't
listen to one of his songs. I'm thankful for Dan and his gift, his voice
continues to soothe my soul when it is troubled. He was truly a gift from
God. I fell blessed that I was able to see him in concert on several
occasions.
Jean, may the memories of happiness that the two of you shared bring you
peace and comfort in your times of sorrow and sadness.
May God bless you! ~
Cheryl,

Music is timeless and the imprint on my life left by Dan Fogelberg is without measure. I am weeping in sadness but so grateful for Dan's earthly gifts as my life was often made complete by his music. His musical talent had no limits. His depth of understanding across the ages and styles of music was amazing. I am likely one of his younger listeners and maybe I feel like fans of John Lennon felt at his passing. I really don't know but I am truly full of sorrow. My daughter says "Don't be sad, he is in heaven." Indeed. In honor of Dan and his love of the Christmas season, put on his Christmas album and enjoy the blessing of having Dan in our lives. ~ Lavona See, Ohio
Dan always touched me with his music, helping me understand a part of
myself as I grew up. His music will be with me for the rest of my life,
a part of me that never fades. ~ Allen D. Wheeler
For Dan Fogelberg:
My brother-in-law was a huge fan. He had a brain tumor and died almost
19 years ago. In his final months, his wife would begin his day by
playing "To the Morning". Dan's music was an inspiration to us all.
Thank you.
Your voice healed. Your life touched. May you be safe from harm. You will always be remembered. Now you have become THE LEADER OF THE BAND
"Souvenirs" was always my favorite album. Dan, your talent was extraordinary. Your music will always remain an important part of my life. Rest in peace and condolences to the family. ~ Mimi in San Diego, CA.
A truly sad day for all with the passing of Dan Fogelberg. Dan was truly a living legend and a wonderful singer/songwriter. His songs will live on
forever. He will be forever missed. The song "Same Old Lang Syne" will have a sadder
meaning this year. Rest in peace Dan and peace and love to his family. ~ Deb C.
I owe my sister many thanks for introducing me to Dan so many years ago!
I am saddened to hear of his passing at such a young age. Dan was a man
with great talent, so thoughtful & honest. My thoughts & prayers are
with Jean and all of Dan's family & friends. Heaven has another ~ANGEL~

Dan will continue to live on in his music and our memories. We were truly
blessed with his talent and I will find solace in that.
May his family find comfort and peace in the rich legacy his left in this
world.
As so many have already said, Dan you touched my life in ways no one
else has. You have brought comfort, strength, and have motivated my
spirit with your beautiful gift of lyrics and song. I will never forget
you arriving on stage in Kansas City with your band delayed due to bad
weather, and you sat on stage with your guitar, a chair, and you played
on. Still to this day it's the single best stage performance I have ever
seen. I pray for grace and peace for you, your family and loved ones,
and for all who treasured your gifts as you journey ahead. Thanks for
the memories and the music on this earth. I look forward to future
melodies. With heartfelt gratitude ~ LEP, HSS, CO.
You will truly be missed. I already fill a whole in my heart. I will
have
your music to listen to always. God Bless you Dan and your wife Jean.
Please accept my heartfelt apologies at the loss of Dan. I loved his music. God bless you all. ~

Dan, I wanted to say thank you for the many years of wonderful music. Your songs have touched my life and many others as well. You will truly be missed. Growing up I listened to your music all the time and saw you many times in concert. You were always incredible! I especially love "Longer" and "Believe In Me," I even had "Longer" played at my wedding....it was beautiful! My thoughts and prayers are with your family...You'll always have a special place in my heart. ~ Your hometown friend, Connie (Peoria, Illinois).
For me, December 16, 2007 is "the day the music died". For three
decades, Dan Fogelberg's music has been the soundtrack for so much of my
life. Music...real music...has the ability to stir the soul. Well, Mr.
Fogelberg, no music ever touched me like yours. You blessed my life in
more ways than I would have ever believed any artist could. You made me
smile, you made me cry, you allowed me to be "fully human" emotionally.
My life has been touched and forever changed by your extraordinary gift.
A sad time indeed for all of us who were so affected by your music...but
the angels in heaven must be rejoicing in full voice at this very
moment. Thank you for the legacy of your wonderful music. If only I
had the same gift of words that you were blessed with...perhaps I could
better articulate my emotions right now. I will miss you so. ~Mark, Baltimore MD
To his family. My heart goes out to you in your time of sorrow.
Dan would NOT want us to grieve his passing. He would want us to celebrate
his
music and the joy it was able to bring us through his gift.
You will be missed Brother Fogelberg but your soul will live on inside all of us
through your music. Thank you so much! ~
Scott
I'm sure, like millions of others, I can't listen to "Leader of the
Band" or "Same Old Lang Syne" without weeping.
Both hit me, and hurt me, for different reasons. And then they also heal
me.
Dan blessed us with his music. May God bless you all now. I'm sick to
hear about his passing.
Peace be with you. ~
Carmen Devney,
Bismarck, North Dakota
I am deeply saddened to know that he is gone. I always loved his music.
My father passed away in 1977 and the song "Leader of the Band" made me
think of him. His music touched me very deeply. I wanted you to know
how much his music meant to me. Sincere condolences to Jean and the
rest of the family. May it bring comfort to know that he is in a better
place and no longer suffering. ~
Lynne in Connecticut
God be with all of you during this time of grief. Dan brought such joy to
so many people through his beautiful songwriting and musicianship. He also
connected people to each other through his music, who may have never been
otherwise. I am deeply saddened by his death, but I have joy in my heart for
the life that he has now with his Heavenly Father, and for the reward he is
receiving. Our first son was named after him, and I am so proud to be able
to continue to listen to his music, and share with my children. I hope
someone writes a song for you, as beautifully as you wrote them for the
loves in your life. Be at peace, my brother! Can't wait to meet you in
heaven. ~
Lisa Fritsch
And Family
What can I say? Listening to Dan's music all these years brought me peace and great memories. He was a singer that could touch your heart and soul. His music will live on for years to come. People like him come around very seldom and you could lay back and just enjoy pure music. So we all mourn for his loss and our loss that he won't be around to do more. Forever fan ~ Robert Van Hevel
This time of year, Dan's beautiful CD "The First Christmas Morning" always
has a regular place in my CD changer. Listening to it last night, after
hearing of his passing, I reflected on the amazing gift of his music in my life and
I am so grateful. ~ C.W. in Colorado
The world has lost a master. It is rare that a mortal human can create
a vehicle through song that can readily make a connection to your soul.
Dan you did this on countless occasions. Your legacy will stand the
test of time through the coming ages. Although we had never met, and
unfortunately I was never able to make one of your concerts, you have
never seemed like a musician to me; you were more like a good friend.
God Bless you and your darling wife. ~
Roger D. Evans
Numb. When I heard the news last night, I just went numb. Jean, we share your grief. I
am so sorry. Ever since hearing "Icarus Ascending" on the way to the taping of Dan's
Soundstage performance shortly after my mom's funeral, I've enclosed those lyrics in
sympathy cards to bring comfort to people who have lost a loved one. Now they are words,
although written by Dan, for Dan himself, as his spirit spirals up toward heaven. There
is no darkness in this place that we're bound... Let it shine! ~
Sue Laabs, Northville, Michigan
What can a person say at a time like this? Words do not seem sufficient,
except to say...
Thanks for all the great tunes, the hard work, and the many gifts you gave
us that
helped fill the sails of time with the wind of our collective spirit on this
great voyage we call life.
You are another kind of energy now.
Keep on keepin' on. It's just as good, or better, only different. ~
Rick from Colorado
I feel like I've lost a close friend. I've spent so many hours singing and
playing Dan's music that it's part of me and will always be in me. This time
of year Dan's Christmas CD means so much to my wife and me. It will be
bittersweet listening to the music this year. To Jean and family, my
prayers and thoughts are with you. Dan lives on! ~
Geoff Tucker Franklin Lakes, NJ
RIP Dan Fogelberg. My heartfelt thoughts to the Fogelberg family. ~

We are broken. Dan was the singer we loved while dating 33 years ago -
and
ever since. We have traveled thousands of miles to hear Dan play. As with
others, Dan was very special to us and will be missed beyond description.
Our prayers will go out for Jean. ~ Del and Sandy - Granbury, TX

your songs. Finally at peace--you are the Leader of the Band. ~

God will care for Jean and the entire family during this time of loss.
Dan has gone home, but he leaves us his legacy of wonderful music which
will live forever. ~

Dan, you will be missed my friend, but not forgotten. Thoughts and
prayers to Jean & family. ~ Cooz Cousino
Dans Music had a strong emotional impact on my life. "Ever On" was the song sung at my second wedding. Thank you, Dan, for your music and lyrics. You and your music will always have a place in my heart. Rest in peace. ~ Peter Blum, Bristol, CT.
Jean and family - Sorry to hear about Dan. I had the opportunity of seeing in concert twice here in Michigan. A very fine musician and entertainer. ~ Pete Wilson,Lansing, MI
Dan, you will be sorely missed. You voice, your songs, your gentle playing and your wonderful spirit have been a companion of mine for many years, and have even inspired me in my own musical journeys. I so look forward to meeting with you on the other side where I can see you face to face and shake your hand, and say 'thank you, friend." ~ Frank Rendo
May you find comfort in knowing Dan will now be singing with the angels
in heaven. His legacy will live on. ~
Tracy,

Although I only knew Dan through his music from concerts and records, he
impressed me as an artist of sincerity and grace, a fine and talented musician
and a man of dignity and dedication. I, for one, will miss his presence in the
world of music. My best to his family.
I feel like I've lost a piece of my youth. Thanks for sharing a glimpse into
your soul, Dan. Our loss is heaven's gain.
This is for Dan and all whom can. He showed the world tenderness which was part of his plan.
Never malice, anger, bitterness or rage.
Ever present enlightenment when he was on stage.
His life was shortened by an insidious disease.
He carried on with dignity, grace and ease.
Composed with saints, angels and sinners.
He touched one, he touched many. For that we are all winners.
Rest In Peace Dan Fogelberg
I was so saddened to hear of Dan's passing. Though I never met him I felt
as
if I knew him through his music and even following his struggles with
health.
I will keep Jean in my prayers.
Warm regards ~
Joe
Farewell Dan. Your music touched my soul. It will be playing in
heaven as it always has and
you will be right at home. Love you ~ Cindy in Idaho
How sad. Here I sit, a 52 year old man with tears running
down my cheeks, remembering the dozen or more events in my life,
over the last 35 years,
where the music touched the soul. God bless your soul, Dan.
To the Fogelberg Family and Friends: Our sincere deepest condolences to you and your family. I just heard him seconds before I read on my email that Dan had passed away. Know that Dan is watching over you and sees the love and adoration for him and his family. ~ Sheila, James, Robert
Thank you to our sweet Dan who gave the world so many wonderful years of
his beautiful voice and music. I was just thinking of him last week hoping
he would start giving concerts again. He will now for God and all in
heaven. What beautiful music there will be.
To say that Dan Fogelberg was an inspiration to me and my music is
an
understatement. He was one of the most prolific singer/songwriters of our
generation and he touched millions of lives with his gift. My prayers go out
to his wife Jean and his extended family as well. I pray for his soul. He
will be greatly missed.
For His Glory ~
Tim Malchak
Dan, Your words and your music have been a personal inspiration to me
since the time I was 16 years old, I am now 47. I feel that, not only
does the music industry have a huge hole in it, but the world in general
does, too. I know I personally feel a void today in my life that can't
be filled. You were one of a kind, a troubadour. Your music was
indicative of your kind and gentle nature and you will be missed by
many. I am now reminded just how vulnerable and temporary our life here
on earth is. Please rest in peace my brother. May God bless and keep
you. ~ Walt Berchin - Arizona
The news of Dan's passing has made me so sad. His music and lyrics defined a
particular time in my life when I was a teen. I am 50 now. Even now,
whenever I happen by chance to hear a song on the radio, I make everyone
QUIT talking and turn it up and relive those days again and the memories
come back easily...his music grounded me. I always felt that I was his
number one fan. His music touched me in such a really profound way and I
thank him so much for that. He will surely be missed by many, but he will
really be missed by me.
Dan Fogelberg was a big influence on me as a budding musician in the early
1970s. I have always enjoyed his music. He was a great singer, songwriter, musician, composer, and arranger, and his talents will be missed. My prayers go out to all his family and friends in this time of sadness. ~
Daryl Rogers,
Fond du Lac, WI
Dan Fogelberg's music has graced my stereo speakers for 35 years. Seeing
him with America back in my college days was one of the most special
times. Hearing the news of his passing is one of the saddest.
You will be deeply missed. ~
Dan Spaulding,
Minneapolis, MN
I am so saddened to learn of the passing of one of our truly great singer-songwriters, Dan Fogelberg. His magical lyrics have been such a part of our lives for the past several decades, and now will continue into eternity. I trust that his wife and family know just how special we all hold Dan in our hearts.
Dan...well done, good and faithful servant. May you now rest in the peace of
Christ. Amen.
Dan, Your music has had a profound effect on my life and I will thank you
personally in the new world.
Thirty five years ago your words and music started to affect my life. You
shared your heart, your thoughts, your feelings, your awe of nature, and put
them into words that so many of us wanted to say but couldn't quite express.
Now there is a sadness I need to write about, but I can't do it anywhere as well
as you might have.
Thank you for all the years and emotions you brought to life for us and for allowing me to share time some 20+ times, you on stage, me mesmerized by your talents just yards away in the audience.
You brought so many blessings to the world, warmth to so many hearts. I hope that every one of those blessings travels with you on this next stage of your journey. We will miss you, Dan Fogelberg.
Go Down Easy my friend. The "Go Down Easy" song and music video has given
me inspiration over the past twenty years and will continue for many years
to come, especially here on the ski trails of Alaska in the fall and winter.
Thanks for the inspiration. Your spirit and environmental ethics will live
always in my memories. ~ Larry V.,
Anchorage, Alaska
Dan is an inspiration to us all. His encouragement to "just follow your
heart and do your best work" belies the heart of a man who maintained the
beauty of simplicity within the rigors of an often complex life. God bless
Dan Fogelberg. ~
Don Sturgill and family
Thanks for the memories. Your music touched my life.
Dan's music worked its way into our hearts from the start of our life together. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing him in concert as he awed us with his remarkable talent . We are very saddened by his death, yet feel greatly blessed that he shared his gift of music with us and so many others. May God provide comfort and peace to his family during this difficult time. ~ Dennis & Laura G.
Right after college, in 1974, I was a mixed up young man. During the
turbulent years in the 70's and early 80's Dan Fogelberg created a calm
sensibility within that storm of personal and social upheaval many of us
felt back then. Over the next few years he provided countless hours of
respite from the issues that haunted us, and the personal conflicts that
gripped me. In many ways, Dan Fogelberg's way of providing me a look at
some of the anxious aspects of love and life and helped me establish
hope and resolve for my own situation. Thanks Dan, your impact is
significant. ~
Edward W. Holler, Ed. D.
Thank you. I cannot even tell you why. Just Thank you. It was you that brought me to the most beautiful place on earth. Colorado. I remember going back stage at the Sundome in Sun City AZ, and meeting you. I shook your hand and it was an instant connection. I knew what it was. It was magical. It made sense. I realized that you were the reason I got in my car, in 1978, and drove from NJ to Ft. Collins. It was PEACE.. You gave me PEACE. And now, You are at PEACE. God has called upon you to bring all of us PEACE. The world is a better place, having known you. I will miss you. Thank You. ~ Amy Sausnock from Colorado
To The Fogelberg Family,
My husband & I have always LOVED Dan's songs. When we started dating in 1982, one of the things we had in common was the love for Dan's songs. We went to his concerts when we could. It always felt like he was singing our love songs.
I know one concert we went to in Ft. Worth at Will Rogers Coliseum was extremely hard for me to attend, but could not miss. A very good friend of ours had just passed away unexpectedly after giving birth to twins, a boy & a girl. She was brain dead but still on life support. I know I cried through the whole show.
When my husband & I heard about Dan's passing, we just held each other.
We are so sorry for your loss & for the loss the whole world feels. He was a very exceptional artist & we will miss him greatly.
Our prayers are with you ~
Don & Nathalie Garwood
I am so saddened to hear of Dan's passing. A good friend of mine in college introduced me to Dan's music and I am so glad he did. At the time I was estranged from my dad and, hearing "Leader of the Band", I knew it was time to make things right. Now, over 20 years later, Dad and I are good friends in addition to father and son. I only hope Dan's friends and family can be made aware of the unique way Dan touched people such as myself. ~ Harold
"I want a lover and I want a friend
and I want to walk in the sun.
And I want to do all the things that I never have done..."
Words to live by. Thanks Dan ~

Thanks Dan, for your beautiful voice, and lyrics. You will be
missed. ~
Jesse
Dan's music has been a steady thread through my life, reaching all the way
back into the 70's as a teenager and then forward into my adult life. His
lyrics and melodies connected at a soul level, and his songs were some of
the first I attempted as I learned to play guitar. His music still has a
steady quality of homecoming for me, and the first album remains my
favorite.
To Jean and Dan's family: Hearts go out for you in this difficult time - his
gift and talents are so deeply appreciated for the rare expression that they
continue to be.
Dan: Godspeed and Fair Winds - thank you for enriching my life with your
music. ~
John T.,
Arizona
Dan,
My brother and I have been inspired by your music all our lives. How tragic
that you leave us so early. We miss you already! May angels carry you to
heaven on swift, silver wings.
We love you! ~
Eles Renfroe
Dan gave us all a gift we can never repay. Jean, I hope you both found
the love you needed to get through this heartbreaking time ~
Joan Blindauer
So very sorry to learn of Dan's passing. His music has meant so much to me over the years. I grew up in Illinois - and actually saw him perform in Peoria. Then, as an adult I moved to Colorado and enjoyed the connection with his music here. Although I love all of Dan's music, I think High Country Snows is especially beautiful. He captured that Colorado spirit perfectly! May Dan continue to hear the beautiful strains of his music being played here on earth, and lifting up into the heavens.
I am so broken-hearted over this tragic news. Not knowing Dan had
passed away on Sunday, I was thinking of him while listening to "Same Old Lang Syne" on
the radio. I was wondering how Dan was doing and how he was holding
up with his illness. Little did I know. It was a pleasure knowing
Dan. Like so many others, his music has been such an important part
of my life. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Jean, and with
Dan's longtime loyal and loving support team. ~
Sarah McMullen
Our most sincere condolences on your loss. We fell in love listening to Dan's music. "Our" song will forever be "Longer".
Thank you Dan, for putting into words and music, our deepest thoughts and feelings. You are in our prayers. ~
Patrick and Hilda Malone
Dan - You will be in our hearts forever. You have given such a wonderful
gift of music to so many people and we are forever thankful. What a sad loss of
a wonderful person. I pray that his wife and loved one's will find peace and
comfort. Only the good die young!
Dan's songs have been a great inspiration to me through the years. Thank you,
Dan. And to Jean and the family, I wish you peace, and thank you for the love
you have given Dan.
Just heard of the passing of Dan this morning. I am a fan of many types of music and my
collection includes most of Dan's work. I also served two years on the state of Illinois
board of the American Cancer Society. My mother is a 30+ year survivor. I know how
difficult it can be to deal with this terrible disease. A local public radio station has
been playing a lot of Dan's work this morning as a tribute. I'll have to get out a few
of my LP's and CD's tonight and have my own. My thoughts and prayers are with your
family.
Dan wrote so eloquently in his song "Nether Lands" where I believe he is
now and how he is feeling. We love you so much and we miss you today.
God Bless Dan Fogelberg.
Wow. No other musician touched my life more than Dan. I was introduced
to his music by a roommate at the University of Illinois; most mornings
began with a side or two of Home Free. And most evenings would end in
the dormitory stairway (great acoustics) with the guitars and voices of
friends trying to reproduce Dan's harmonies. We would go from one album
to the next, singing each song in order, and nearly rejoicing when one
of us picked up one of Dan's vocal nuances that made each song unique
and special. Fogelberg cover tunes represented a solid chunk of the
repertoire of a band I was in for nearly 15 years.
I can't remember the number of times I saw Dan in concert: whether at U
of I, or in Chicago, or even several years ago at the Ravinia Festival.
I remember one concert in particular when Dan sang "Same Old Lang Syne" the
first time.
I think it may be quite a while until I can listen to "To The Morning"
without shedding a tear. Rest in peace. ~
Jeff
I came of age with Dan's songs in my heart and head. It's the soundtrack of my
life. What a gift and legacy for someone to do that for a stranger. Take
care, Jean, I know the music will live in your heart.
Thanks for everything. ~
Monica
I was very saddened to hear about Dan Fogelberg's passing. I have been fan for more then 30 years and derived great joy from his musical genius. More recently I have gained great strength from his battle with Prostate Cancer. When I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer almost a year ago, the first place I went for help was Dan's Website. His battle and advice prompted me to seek treatment immediately. Now a year later a have had prostate Surgery and am Cancer free from the disease that took Dan. Many Thanks ~ John Burns
Wow, I'm shocked to say the least. and, very saddened indeed. Dan's lyrics
and music has been a HUGE inspiration and motivation in my own life as a
musician. Every album, Every song, Every note, Every nuance played by Dan
has a special and memorial meaning to me through the years both in very hard
times and very good times for sure. I must say it is hard for me to listen
to the songs I've listed as favorites during my hard times because of the
remembrance of the emotion I endured from those times and the relationships
I had. But that's the best part of Dan's music because it portrays
practical experiences. You're the best Dan! God bless you brother.
Funny how songs from the past bring feelings of love when replayed in my
mind.
Life's ambitions captured in a glass were shattered exposing that moment of
time,
and the dreams of lost loved ones are placed back on the self beside the
legends we've left behind,
only to be forgotten.
I can never get back that I once loved that part of me is gone,
the life I now live, wouldn't trade for anything which echoes in this song.
The landscape around is beautiful God's handiwork. His perfect time.
Rich music adds to its beauty. In time past it was yours and mine,
never to be forgotten..~
Ed Seffens- Temecula, CA
Dan Fogelberg will be truly missed. His music has left a lasting impression
of my life and the lives of my family members. I was lucky enough to see
him in concert once, and will never forget him. My thoughts and prayers are
with the family and friends of this great man at this difficult time. He
will never be forgotten. God Bless. ~ Tracy Taylor,
Arlington Heights, IL
Jean:
Judging from the responses you see here, I know you understand that Dan has
left a number of living legacies...people who appreciated both him and his
music while he was living, and people who will do so, even more so now.
Godspeed.
Thoughts of deepest sympathy & our condolences to your family and friends.
The world has truly lost a most wonderful human being. His songs were
inspirational to the many people who can never forget his mellow music. He was a
refreshing talent, one not scandalized every other day in order to "stay famous".
Thank goodness for recordings, for his voice and music will truly live on
forever in our happiest memories and hearts. Be comforted to know that you are
not alone in your time of sadness. The world is a little darker for this, but
brighter for the fact that we had known him. Blessings to you and your
families.
Sincerely ~

My heart sank in my chest this morning when I heard of Dan
Fogelberg's
death. For so many years his music inspired and comforted me. I was
fortunate to see him perform during his acoustic tour several years ago.
What a talent!
To his wife, family and close friends, I offer heartfelt condolences. His
music will shine in his absence. ~

We have lost a truly magnificent man. His incredible talent will be
sorely missed. I grew up listening to him and always thought that his
music was very special. His lyrics were so genuine that you just knew
they touched his life and all who understood them so very personally.
I'll always have a special place in my heart for Dan. May he rest in
peace in all of The Good Lord's glory! ~

My daughter woke me this morning to tell me of Dan's passing. I was so saddened
to hear
of this, as I had hopes of seeing him again in concert. His music has touched my soul
like no one else's ever has in my life. I feel like I've lost my own best friend. Jean, I
wish you well as you get through this difficult time. ~

Dan will live on forever in our hearts and through his incredible music
which we will cherish forever. What a great loss for the world. I pray
that his family finds peace in knowing that at least he is not suffering
any more and knowing that he will always be with you.
We will miss Dan more than words can say ~

Dan's music saved my life a couple of times. And yesterday, at the time of his
death, one of his songs came through loud and clear to me. I never really knew
him except through his music but I loved him all the same.
Your living legacy may have passed, but the legacy of your spirit and song shall transcend the ages. GodSpeed. ~

Hello,
I was saddened this morning to the news that Dan passed away. Being a guitar
player myself, I loved his heart felt ballads that I listen to often walking
my dogs along the Fraser River while eagles fly above me. His music on those
walks blend so beautifully, as if they were written for moments like these.
My prayers are with his family at this time and my heart goes out to you.
His legacy will live on with his love of music and his spirit will be alive
when he visits me, as I listen to those beautiful songs he created.
Maybe just maybe as we look at the stars on quiet nights we will be able to
hear Dan singing his songs for us from above with a smile.
Thank you Dan for letting me enjoy and play your music. As Boz Scaggs wrote
in his song Sierra "The angels lay their clouds across his sky, they line up
for him every night, some have wings and others sing the rest do lazy
ballets in the air".
My deepest regards ~

Dan, I was so crushed and saddened to learn that the world became just a little less
bright today. You have been with me through your music for so many years, at so many
important emotional times in my life and it is so hard to believe you are gone. The most
memorable of these times was when you actually helped me woo a reluctant and beautiful 16
year old girl in 1981. I sang her a poor rendition of "Longer" accompanied by my cheap
acoustic guitar during free time in Spanish class as a Junior in high school. That day
she finally agreed to go out with me, and eventually became my wife and gave me two
beautiful sons. So, in a way, you were responsible for the most precious things in my
life, and aside for obviously thanking you for your wonderful music in general, I have to
thank you for that as well. You will be so missed, but I'm glad you are finally able to
rest now. May God grant peace and comfort to the ones you loved and who loved you at this
most difficult of times. I'll see you on the other side, my friend.
I was driving down the highway this morning, the 17th, when I heard the news on the radio. Such a sense of loss and sadness, to never hear another original song from such a talented, gifted soul, that I've listened to since 1977. Dan, however, is freed from the confines of this life, and lifting up his beautiful voice, I'm sure, with the angels in heaven. To Jean and his family, my heartfelt regrets for your loss. Our prayers are with you. I pray that his past music will lift you up in this sad time. I know it will for me. We'll miss you, Dan. ~

My deepest sympathy goes out to Dan's family and friends. I loved his music from the beginning of his career, and have truly been touched by the words of his songs. His gentle voice will sing forever in my heart. ~

To the Fogelberg family:
My sincerest condolences on the loss of Dan. Many years ago, I was introduced to Dan Fogelberg through the gift of the album Souvenirs, from a girlfriend. I loved the album and my relationship with Dan lasted a lot longer than the one with the girl. Through the years, his talent and craftsmanship inspired and entertained me. To this day, The Innocent Age is one of my favorite albums of all time. I'd heard about a year ago that he was ill but I had no idea it was as serious as it was. I was stunned this morning when I heard that he passed away. I'm sure that you'll be hearing this quite a bit but I wanted to let you know that I'm praying that God will bless you and keep you throughout this trying time. Know that Dan left a legacy that will surely endure.
Best wishes ~
Steven Thompson
I was so sorry to hear about Dan's passing. I pray for comfort for Jean and
the family. He was a treasure and will be missed by many. I am glad at
least his songs will live on forever in our hearts.

In these days when "popular music" consists (far too often) of distorted screaming into the microphone or simply cussing to a beat, Dan Fogelberg's music was a refuge and -- at times -- a soundtrack for my life. I had rather hoped he would live to see some sanity return to the airwaves and his music be appreciated once more by the general public. Far more complex than the "soft rock" tag given by the media, Fogelberg's music followed in the tradition of the singer-songwriter era graced by the presence of people such as Harry Chapin, Don McLean, Janis Ian, James Taylor and Michael Kelly Blanchard. His were songs that both defined and at the same time transcended human experience and were surely touched by (as Lincoln put it) the "better angels of our nature." To the family, may the peace and presence of Christ be with you and be the "friend that sticks closer than a brother" during your time of grief. To Dan Fogelberg, requiescat in pacis.~

I pray Dan knew the Lord. A truly welcomed addition to Heaven's
throng of Musicians and Choir. The absence is but for a time. We
shall all see him again and listen on the other side...keep the faith
above all. Thanks for it all Dan. In Him ~ Weston Bright
In 1978, I first was introduced to the music of Dan by my friend, Jim B.
I was instantly hooked. I saw Dan perform live many times, from his
solo tour concert at the Pacific Amphitheater in Irvine, California to
The Backyard in Austin, Texas. They were concerts where it was
possible to listen to all the instruments and vocals blend in angelic
harmony.
Dan's poetic verses, musical arrangements, instrument versatility and
powerful soulful voice were gifts to us from the man above. Now we are
left with his songs and our guitars to bang out his tunes and close our
eyes and sing our hearts out in vain to capture the moment of a
Fogelberg live concert.
My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and all the Fogelberg family. ~ Val - Austin Texas
It is a very sad day for all of us and our prayers and thoughts are with Jean
and the family at this time. The world has lost a wonderful man, one who not
only had a great voice, but had all the right principles. These principles were
expressed and passed along to others in the form of his music. Thanks so much
for all the memories Dan and "Safe Passage" to heaven my friend. ~
Glen C. Schulz
My husband and I are truly sorry to hear of Dan's passing. We are
touched
deeply whenever we hear any song Dan brought us. "Leader of the Band" is a
particular favorite because his dad, "Mr. Fogelberg" was indeed the leader
of the band at our high school, Pekin Community High School, while we were
students there.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all who loved and cared for Dan Fogelberg. ~
Jim and Denise West
I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to Jean and the rest of
Dan's family. Like so many others, Dan's music was a huge part of my life
growing up in the seventies. I have many fond memories associated with his
music and there are times in my life that are forever linked to his music.
Godspeed Dan. ~
Jeff
Thanks Dan. Thanks.
Dear Jean,
this is coming from Germany.
Would it be needless to say how much your husband's music and lyrics have
meant to me as well as so uncounted many others for decades now?
The leader of the Band is gone, and that is an infinite loss to the world.
And certainly to you, as you have only met him a little while ago and were
not allowed to grow old with this man so full of wisdom and strings to the
outer spaces of life, that not too many humans are allowed to tap into.
Would it be needless to say how many times his music has made me cry, how
many times it made me dance and how many times it made me sing? The spirit
of his songs became part of my personal religion, his reflections were
always phrased so poetic and therefore touched me deep inside.
May it be needless, but it needed to be just said, and dear Jean, no comfort
for your tormented soul can anyone provide, but know this: many tears are
being cried.
May you find the strength to go on and become Dan's living legacy, and may
some day for you the snow turn into rain.
With heartfelt warmest regards ~
Karen
Dan,
You were my inspiration as a young man. It was your music that encouraged me to pick up
the guitar and become a musician. My music led me to become an engineer, mixing for
Epic/Atlantic artists back in the 80s. (Gloria Estefan, Steven Stills, etc)
Your song "As the Raven Flies" was the first song I learned to play on the guitar, and
all your albums after that, I played with your songwriting in my heart.
You are a true inspiration to your art. Your music will always be in my heart and soul.
My sadness of your passing is only tempered by the fact that I KNOW you have ascended to
a better place, taking your place as one of our angels, looking down upon us, spreading
your light to us all.
I forever stand in your light, touched by your lyrical and musical wisdom.
Bless you Dan. ~
