Godspeed Dan. I will treasure more the sounds of your music. My
prayers for your family. Until we meet again ~ Laura Lea-Clayton
May God bless Dan, and his wife Jean. I'm so very happy to have known and loved his
music. It will always have a special place in my music library.
My Mother left us on November 18 of this year, so I'm aware of the loss and sadness Jean
is enduring. My Mom, Valarie, had terminal pancreatic cancer. I was able to be with her
in her last month. It was a painful time for all of us emotionally, but it was also so
good to be at her side even in her very last moments of life here on earth. I know she is in a place now where she has no pain, no worries, no fears, and that comforts my heart.
I pray for Jean's comfort. We will all have Dan's music to comfort us, she has that and
very special memories of her life with this gifted man.
Peace ~
Michael Owens
His music touched me in a way, very few musicians have.
His music will live on in my heart.
I was very sad to hear that Dan left us this morning but I know he's
moved on to greater things. He will be greatly missed. I was honored to
have experienced one of his concerts here in Orlando Florida in the late
90's and will never forget it. I had chills the whole time. What a
talented human being, he really touched me. Through his music he touched us
all. I will always be a fan.
With much sympathy to his family,
Sincerely ~
Tina Bailey
Jean Fogelberg,
I give to you all my comfort. I was a big fan of his, especially
through the nineties. I really enjoy his songs, music, and his art work.
I saw him five times in concert. I was just listening to his Christmas CD this
morning. I am really going to miss him.
Love ~ Alaska Dan Fan, Lisa Ann Simpson
My heart skipped a beat when I heard that Dan had gone to be a member of the great chorus in the sky. I grew up listening to his music, singing along with him and wishing one day I would be just like him. Two songs touched my soul, "Leader of the Band" and "Longer". I sang "Longer" at a bar one night, and the next thing I knew, people were asking me to sing it at their weddings. Truly, one song can change your life. I had seen Dan in concert six times, and wished every time for someone to get back stage and tell him just how much he was respected and appreciate.
My deepest condolence goes to his wife Jean. Dan fought a great battle and he did it with dignity and grace. He's now the leader of a new band. ~
Gary Vornheder
My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and the rest of Dan's family. A
true musician has left us. Never will he be forgotten. ~
Kathryn (Kat) Hastings
When I was a young teen I discovered Dan's music and spent hours listening
to his luscious lyrics and melodies. I was lucky enough to see him perform
live at Nassau Coliseum in the early 80's. It is a great loss and yet I
rejoice in the knowledge that the world had Dan for the years we did. ~
Amy Green
My heart goes out to Jean and the rest of Dan's family. Dan's music and
soul filled lyrics kept me company in many wonderful "wild places." Thank you Dan
for your amazing lyrics and passion for love, life and the environment.
Peace and comfort to Jean and family. ~ Nancy Amos -
Englewood, Ohio
Dear Jean, I am so sorry for the loss of your husband, the great Dan Fogelberg. I am almost 52 years old now but when I was in my 20's, I listened to your husband's music almost every single day;so much so that my boss from work said he knew Dan (which he didn't) from college just to hear me scream in excitement. Dan had the most beautiful voice and music. I am so sad to hear that he has passed so soon. Sincerely ~ Terry
My Dad also passed away from prostate cancer. My thoughts and prayers
are with his wife and family.
God bless ~
Margie Jordan
As another restless heart that grew up in the Peoria area, and was only 8 years younger than Dan, I feel a great void today at the news of his passing. I identified with so much of his music, which was easier to do when you knew "The River", and "Hickory Grove", and could probably guess of locations that were referred to in "Same Old Lang Syne". I hope that you are finding a "breath of that sweet country air" today, Dan. I hope that the family takes comfort in knowing that Dan has touched so many of us in so many ways. He has inspired us, challenged us, and comforted us. May God bless you in this time of sorrow, and joy.
In your words Dan, "let it shine". Your heart and soul will shine on us forever. ~ Terry - Englewood, Fl.
A very sad day. Goodbye to our great poet, wonderful songwriter, passionate Earth Crusader. May you journey easily in the "river of souls." May you and the family find peace, Jean. ~
Jamie in Maine
I don't know what to say. I heard the news last night and was deeply saddened.
All I can think of is that God sent Dan here to let us enjoy his music and voice
and beauty and now, with Christmas coming, God wanted Dan to join his choir of
angels. For your beautiful gift of music and all the love you brought forth in
all of us, Dan, we sure will miss you being here with us. What beautiful music must be heard in the heavens today. ~ Sally -Shelby, Ohio
I am still in tears and very sorrowful about my man, Dan. I always called him
that "Dan, the man". Just last night and this morning I was listening to his
Christmas CD and remarking to myself, "This is the best Christmas CD that I
have". I had hunted long and hard for that CD a couple years ago. Just a week
ago I was going through albums, CD's, cassettes and said to myself, "WOW, I
have more of his music then anyone else. Now, I am so blessed that I have that to
listen to and all of his other CD's, albums, cassette tapes. I will dedicate the entire day to Dan by listening to his music. I have a wall of Dan pictures
and one of them is an acoustic concert that he did at the Orpheum Theatre in
Boston. He was genuine, a wonderful man (he had to be to write those lyrics),
and the best singer songwriter that I have ever known. I am so upset right
now, but I really believe that he was a believer in Christ as was demonstrated on
his last few CD's. I really believe he is resting now in Heaven with God. I
have missed him the past few years and miss him more now. My heart goes out to
Jean who stood by him and comforted him through this ordeal. I will pray for
Jean as I did for Dan when I thought of him. I also want to thank Laurie and
Deborah for developing the web site and I really hope that it continues so to
preserve his "Living Legacy" even in his death.
God bless all of you ~

I saw my last concert here in Minnesota in 1997 (the Portrait tour). When
the tour was announced for Full Circle, the closest venue was in Madison,
Wisconsin. My wife-to-be had never seen Dan in concert. So, I drove from my
home in northeast Minneapolis to Madison, a decision that my wife and I will
NEVER regret.
Thanks for sharing your gift with us Dan. Rest in peace. ~ Mark in
northeast Minneapolis
We are so very sorry to hear Dan has left this earth. No one will ever match
his pure talent for lyrics in a song. Our first date 23 years ago was to a
Dan concert and we celebrated many anniversaries attending others. Not a
week goes by when his music isn't heard in our home. He truly has been a
huge part of our life soundtrack. He will be so greatly missed by all.
God Bless Jean and the family ~

Dan truly gave a gift to me that I have never been able to repay. His words were taken right from my heart, like he knew just how I felt sometimes. I have never experienced that with any other musical artist as often as I did with Dan's music. After seeing him perform live seven times it crushes me to know that all I have now is the DVD and will never experience the "real" thing again or be able to share that experience with my niece. My heart is very sad today and I am sending my deepest condolences to Dan's family. He was truly an honorable and decent human being. The world needs more DF's and he will be missed deeply. ~ Vicky Anderson - Lincoln, Nebraska
Go in Peace, my friend. My sincere condolences and wishes of comfort to
Jean and all the Fogelberg family and friends. Words cannot express my
gratitude for the gifts Dan shared with all of us.~

Dan, you made the world a better place. Thanks for being.
Peace be with you Dan. Thank you for the music that defined my high school and college
years and that I continue to be touched by, to this day. Your gift will live on and be
treasured by many forever. I think the angels are so excited that you're joining the
chorus today. And to your wife Jean, and family, take comfort in one another and be at
peace. "....oh let it shine". Blessings and love ~ Mary Lynn
When my father was dying of Cancer I played "Leader of the Band" many
times for comfort; this morning I played it again and
thanked Dan for his "living legacy" of music, for giving me,
and so many others, "a gift I know I never can re-pay".
Just a fan, since the days of Souvenirs. ~

Dan is the man. His music has touched many of us and there is no
greater value in life then knowing you have left
a positive mark in the lives of other people. I extend my sympathy to
his family and friends and may we receive
solitude in knowing he is in a better place. ~
Greg Mori
My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and all of Dan's family and
friends.
His music touched my heart in a very special way - I attended his concert 4
days after my mother passed; an outing I had eagerly been anticipating and
yet was so conflicted about due to this sudden occurrence in my own life. It was the most comforting, intimate and warm thing I experienced for
months following my mom's death.
How blessed we all were to have been touched by his gift, his spirit and
his music.
Kind Regards ~
Sue Smethurst
I thank you for your gift of song. You are now in God's hands. He loves
you, and so do I. To the family, be strong, and of good courage. Stay
strong in the Lord. God Bless you all. ~ Jim
I feel like I have lost a life long friend, one who was beside me every step of
my way through life. I have always felt a deep connection to music and when I
discovered Dan's I knew that I had found something very special. Many hearts are filled with sorrow today, but I am sure none more than Dan's wife Jean. To her I send my deepest sympathy and hope that she knows that Dan has not left her. He has wrapped himself around her to give her some small measure of solace. Jean, when you look out upon the star filled night, when the air is clear and crisp, you will feel his presence there with you. He hasn't left you, he is merely watching over you until it is time for you to go home, and then he will be there to guide you across the starry skies into a peaceful and beautiful place. Have faith that you will be together again. My love to you ~ NMKC
I am absolutely heartbroken. ~ Diane
In 1973, I heard the song "Part of The Plan" by Dan Fogelberg, and immediately felt a connection to his music at that time. I was sorry to hear of his passing, and thank him for being a part of my life's soundtrack through the last 35 yrs. ~ Paul in Denver
For some reason after a long day I was drawn once again to this web site late
Saturday night/early Sunday morning. There was a sense of foreboding that grew
stronger as I looked through its pages. This led me to go to You Tube and search
out anything I could find about Dan. As I watched him perform "Leader of the Band" tears came filling my eyes. Before he had finished somehow I knew we were about to lose this wonderful artist, this thoughtful man. As Dan said, men get tested and regularly. His too early passing is just another part of a legacy that will indeed live on. Thank you so much for your gift of music, it has enriched my life.
Godspeed ~
Dan Sanderson - Hamilton, ON, Canada
To Jean and Dan's family, my heartfelt condolences. Yours is the greatest loss. I am extremely saddened to hear Dan has passed away. I have shed many a tear today. Dan will be dearly missed by all who knew him and by those of us who have had the pleasure of sharing in his musical gift, as indicated by the many tributes that have flooded in. Dan has been inspirational in my musical world and I feel a part of me has been lost also. It may take a while before I pick up my guitar again. But when the time comes, if I may "misquote" Dan "I will sing to your spirit, where all my dreams dwell, the vision, the freedom, the life lived so well; I wish somehow you were still here". May your spirit live on, up above. "Let it shine..." ~
Gillian -Cambridgeshire, UK
My heart is out to Dan's wife and all his friends, family and all of his
fans.
His music was uplifting and inspiring. I saw him in concert many times and
thoroughly enjoyed him and his music.
Rest in peace.

Thank you for the beauty of your music and the poetry of your words.
God bless you. ~ A fan from Pittsburgh.
The previous messages have put into words what I seem to be failing to do. Prayers to all of Dan's family and friends.
I am in shock, and my heart is heavy with the news I have just heard. I
was not aware of Dan's illness, and perhaps that makes the shock
greater. To lose one so talented and full of life at such a young age
is such a tragedy. Dan's music touched my heart and soul from the first
time I heard him. I was at an Eagles, Seals & Crofts & Judy Collins
concert at Rich Stadium in Buffalo, NY in 1974 and they announced an
unbilled opening act - a "little known, yet up and coming new performer"
- and of course it was Dan. He rocked the crowd and I will always
remember that day. His "Same Old Lang Syne" has always brought tears to my
eyes, but now it will be for the loss of a dear friend, although we
never met. You will be missed, and your music will always be loved. My
sincere condolences to Dan's wife and family. ~ Brian Stacey - Connecticut
I fell in love with Dan's voice and music in 1981 when my college
roommate played his albums over and over and over again, (okay, she was
obsessed!). We saw him in concert at Kemper Arena around that time. What
I remembered about that performance was how he played so long. It is to
this date THE best live concert I have ever been to. It seemed that he
put part of his heart and soul into everything he played. He lives on in
the art that he left here. We are praying for his family and friends in
this difficult time. God's peace and comfort to you. ~
Elena Foster - Kansas City, MO.
Such a sad day. Thank you for all the music that touched me. I remembered a
lot of special people today as I listened to your songs.
Godspeed on your journey ~

Rest in Peace, Dan
It's "Hard To Say" goodbye. We are too stunned for words.
I am so very sorry for your loss. My deepest condolences. You and his family are
in my thoughts. I'm crying as I write this. Dan's music touched me deeply. I have listen to his music since his Souvenirs album back in 1974. His music is in my heart. I wish I had known him.
A great loss for all of us. Peace and love. Sincerely ~ Jack Welsh
Hello,
Sometimes I guess it's true that only the good die young. I didn't know him
but somehow I really believe he was a good soul. I hope these messages from
us fans can ease some pain for Dan's family. I'll miss his unwritten music.
Thank goodness for all the great music we have from him already. All the best
to his family . I hope you can cope well. God Bless ~ Kenny Forgione from New York
Fogelberg Family,
My heart goes out to the entire Fogelberg family as you and all of his
faithful fans grieve his passing. He has given so much to the world of
music and for that we are all very thankful for his time here on earth.
Please know that the world was a better place because of Dan and his
music. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. ~ Scott Green
I am saddened by Dan's passing. He gave me many hours of joy listening
to his music. Peace be with you, Dan ~ George
With deepest sympathy from Nebraska. In about 1975 I had the pleasure of
watching Dan open for the Eagles in Omaha. I was blown away by his awesome
talent. I loved the melodies, but was absolutely engrossed by his lyrics. I
have two grown children who still love Dan¹s music because it is what they
grew up listening to. My sympathy to you Jean and all of the fans who will
remember him as the true talent he was. ~ R L
Like the many who have expressed their sadness at hearing of Dan's passing, I
too was devastated to hear the news. My husband had the television on last night and I was in another room nearby. When I heard the news coming out of that television, I went running into the living room screaming, "NO! NO!" I was crushed to hear that Dan had passed. I knew of his valiant fight with cancer from reading about it on his web site, but I was so praying that he would be able to beat it. Upon hearing the news, the song "Same Old Lang Syne" started playing in my head, and the tears started coming. This morning, looking out my window at the early sunrise, I could see one bright star shining in the midst of a few puffy clouds which were glowing in beautiful colors from the rising sun, immediately the song "To The Morning" began playing in my mind. I found myself singing along with it, and again the tears came. I never met the man, but I'm so thankful that I "met" his music back in the 70s. I have several of his albums, cassettes, and now CDs. His hauntingly beautiful music and lyrics will always be a big part of my life. He was such a great talent, and no one else can compare to him. I pray for God's comfort for his wife, Jean, and his family, friends, and fans, who will all miss him terribly. Thank you, Dan, for the awesome gift you gave us, your music, your beautiful expressions of love and life. They will live on in us all. ~ Stephanie N. - Houston, TX
Dan, Your music was the soundtrack for my college years, when I met my
dearest friends and made some of my fondest memories. I hear the first few notes
of "Longer" and I'm 18 again.Thank you, God Bless you. ~ Theresa
Anyone who has spent time with Dan Fogelberg's music has been blessed by
his captivating gift. I felt great sadness when I heard of his passing.
Like many others, he helped frame our lives during the 70s and 80s with
his lyrics and melodies. He will be greatly missed. Jean, I wish for
you a sense of peace. Please know that the thoughts and prayers of many
are with you at this time. ~

I am so sorry to hear that Dan is gone. His music meant so much to me. At a
turbulent stage of my life, he was my anchor. I will continue to play his
songs and remember what an inspiration he was and will always be. ~ Laura
Rushton - Mansfield, OH
I've been Dan Fan since I lived in Illinois and he was a student at U of I in 1972. Nobody really understood my love for this man and his music, but in the early 90s, Dan came to my town (Pensacola, Florida), so I dragged my husband to see him on Valentine's Day. Needless to say, my husband now not only respects Dan's music, but reveres him for his great talent. It sure wasn't all Dan's "smarmier" side,he played hard-edged rock, blues, a little jazz, and a whole acoustic set. And he talked, and he told stories, and he made so many new fans that night.
I've continued to be a huge fan, enjoying all of his albums and picking up on his environmental causes, which could be his best legacy of all.
The world will miss you, Dan. ~
Robin Rowan
Thank you Dan for all the years of wonderful music. I was deeply saddened when I heard you had left us. -God Bless ~ Linda
I thank Dan for his message of education on prostate cancer and listen to what he has shared. I heard today of his passing and his inspiration and song will live on in our hearts and minds. May all those close to him overcome their personal grief and find peace with the positive memories and messages he has left each and every one of us. ~

My best memory of Dan was listening to him while skiing. His pure vocals and deep song writing have always touched me. God bless him and his family.
Dear Jean, Dan`s mom and brothers, I am so sorry for the the loss of your
Dan. His light will shine forever in the hearts of all who loved him. I am a
long time fan and will miss seeing him in concert, and hearing new songs. He
was so much a part of my life, there is a void. My loss is small compared to
you, his family. I am comforted to know he had all of you to be there and to
love and support him through his illness. I know he is at peace. I hope you
continue to love and support each other, and in time find peace. Dan will live
on through his music. I will always be listening. My thoughts and prayers are
with you. ~ Sheila and Bill - Fallbrook,Ca.
Jean,
an angel's voice is now silent. We fell in love with Dan's words and music over thirty years ago. Our hearts go out to you in this time of sadness. We will keep Dan is our thoughts and prayers. He is surely singing now in heaven. He will be missed. ~ larry and kelly
My sister and I are deeply saddened. We work together and play 'Same Old Lang Syne' on our media player extremely often. We were devastated to hear the news and express our deepest sympathy to Jean and his family. ~ Susie and Jane
Dear Jean,
May God give you and your family strength in your time of great sadness.
My family will have you and Dan in our thoughts and prayers. We saw Dan
perform many times including his last tour here on Long Island. We always
left his performances felling exhilarated. Dan always wrote with great love
and tenderness and affected each and every one of us in a personal way. God
bless. ~

I just heard that Dan passed away.
I pray that he is with the Lord, and in no more pain.
I am 55, so Dan was part of my youth, a very great part of my youth. He had such soul, such a great, but gentle voice, and I am sorry that it is stilled.
I hope that Dan's family can take solace in the fact that he touched so many lives while he was alive, and that they will see him again some day.
God bless you all.
Hang in there. ~
Mary Jane Peters
I'm so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I was fortunate enough to see several of his shows at Red Rocks and every single one was just magical! Thank you so much Dan for sharing your amazing gift with us for all these years. Your music will live forever. ~
Mike - Highlands Ranch, Colorado
I went to the concert at the Omni in Atlanta promoting The Innocent Age album,
and Dan told us that "Same Old Lang Syne" was a true story which happened in Peoria Ill., Christmas, 1974. He said there was a sequel, which he would tell us when he was about 80. He gave us wonderful songs, beautiful lyrics which will be with us always. Still, we are all diminished by his leaving. ~
Randolph Phillips.
On this day of remembrance, I offer my sincere thanks for all of Dan's special
music.
I will always treasure the breathtaking beauty of "Nether Lands."
Much Love ~

Wow! I know I was shocked and saddened to hear of this beautiful singer's passing. But, when I read the many condolences from fans, friends and family, it touched me deeply. This wonderful man obviously touched the hearts and souls of many around the world and will be sadly missed. I too, have been a fan for many years and will continue to enjoy his wonderful songs for years to come. His final letter of encouragement to men around the world is a testament to the great human being he was. He will be missed. My condolences to his family. ~ Camille
I can't stop the tears. If it were not for the gift of this man and his

sharing this gift with this world. Dan, Peace be with you. Rest now.

Dan's Music has always been at the top of my list. Nether Lands is without a doubt my favorite album. I discovered it in college and have been a huge fan for many years. My cousin and I sang "Leader of the Band" at my grandfather's funeral. Dan's music has touched us all. Dan's passing saddens me beyond words. We have lost a wonderful poet, a talented musician, a tremendous voice and a gentle soul. I cannot express my sorrow for the pain those who
knew him are going through. My prayers are with you. ~ Ed
I was so sorry to hear about Dan.
He special talent for songwriting and performing will be missed. I have friends in
Colorado who knew him.
RIP Dan
A sad time. He was an amazing influence that makes me smile whenever I hear his voice. Best wishes to his family.
I just wanted to let Dan's family know how sorry we are for your loss.
Though we never met Dan, my wife and I feel like we grew up with him.
His music was on our 8-tracks, cassettes, cd's and ipods. So beautiful
and tender. Dan, you truly made this world a better place.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you ~ Mark and Denise
I can't remember a time in my life when Dan Fogelberg's music was not a
part of my day to day habits. I remember lying in bed listening to his
songs before getting up to go to school, and then as an adult using his
soothing sounds to fall asleep. His music is so incredibly inspirational
and I am beyond sad that he has passed. The earth has lost a truly
poetic, caring soul, but I hope that the energy that drove his
creativity and his music lives on. I have always cherished my
collection of his work, and now will so even more.
My deepest condolences to his wife and family, because if a total
stranger can miss him, I can only imagine the pain experienced by
someone who loved him and shared his life must feel.
Dan will truly be missed. ~
Michelle Goldner - Carmel, Indiana
I had been waiting for either a new Dan album or the news I heard last night from my brother. My sadness is profound. To Dan's family, I wish all the healing this world has to offer. I know there were more beautiful songs left in Dan and if we listen closely perhaps we will hear them. "Standing silent, laughing Breathing steam, Gazing down into a freezing stream...I saw the face of a child" (DF, Sketches). Thank you Dan, for all of it. ~
Paul - Red Lodge, Montana
The Lord now has his 'Leader of the Band', one that God himself will nudge
his other famous members to consult with when playing for His family and
Saints. I am happy to be so close to his music on a daily basis, singing along
quite loudly and feeling how he made music as I would have, if I was given his
ferocious talent. "Wysteria", "Dancing Shoes", "Since You've Asked","Bones in the Sky" and "Minstrel".....cryingly incredible, as much the same when I heard his
Nether Lands album. If music is a person, he gave us himself in so many beautiful
chords, all strung around an amazing beautiful tapestry of sound. We have
that, as he left that here for us. I am grateful for that. After learning
about Dan, I stopped last night, could not move, felt as if I was hit in the
stomach, feeling a wound, a loneliness that whispered that my friend was gone. A friend that gave me his soul through his music, and one that I can say I
will never abandon. Look at what he left. That will stay pure and strong in my
heart, and that is what I believe he wanted. Dan held our hands and reached
our hearts. Dan has passed, but he is alive through his spirit here, with us.
Now he will never grow old. I loved Dan, and I loved his music. I am happy to have shared in what he loved. Much love and peace to Dan's Family, who
are in many ways, my family. ~ Glenn.
My sincere condolences to the family. He was a man that brought love, life, and harmony to this world, through his music and concern for the environment.
Dan may you always R.I.P. ~
Daniel Lars
I have always loved Dan's music. A great songwriter-singer. He will be missed. There is a reason to make sure your loved ones are checked on a regular basis. My husband says that the tests are easy and he knows after losing his best friend to prostate cancer they are worth it. To young to die, but, the music will live on.
Dear Family and Friends of Dan Fogelberg,
I am sure you will receive many notes of love and care during this difficult time that speak words similar to those I write. My husband, Joe, and I have been "fans" of Fogelberg music since our college days. We consider "Longer" "our song" as I am sure many couples of our generation do. After 30 years together we are easily transported back to a sweet time of younger love when we hear that song. It still stirs the soul.
I know a great deal of sacrifice is required of a "performance" family. We thank you for supporting Dan as he shared his gift with the world. I remember hearing Nether Lands for the first time while visiting a friend at Georgia Southern College and thinking "that is the most beautiful music I've ever heard". As a theatre and vocal student I was drawn to the drama and classic beauty of the album and from then on looked for new works from Dan Fogelberg.
On a final note, my husband (51) is battling follicular cancer so we understand the pain of the "waiting and battle" of long term, terminal cancer. We pray you now find peace.
Know that Dan's music touched many lives and will continue to play in homes like ours.
May memories sustain you, may the peace of Christ give you comfort and joy in this season of loss.
Sincerely ~
Ginger L. Whittington
It's a very sad day. I never got to see Dan in concert, but his music has been a part of my life and will continue on. We will all miss him. Prayers and peace to his family. ~ Dawn - St. Louis, Missouri
Dear Jean and the Fogelberg Family,
I am so saddened to know such a great man, Dan Fogelberg, has left this
earth.
However, I know he is an angel forever with us. He blessed us all by sharing
his gift of music and writing and the passion it made him feel. His legacy
will remain, always.
I am moved to tears of both sadness and joy thinking about how much your
husband has touched my life through the years, even though to you - I am a stranger.
I send you blessings of comfort during this difficult time. Should you need
to see Dan again, I feel quite sure that if you gaze into the river - he
will be there.
With sincere sympathy ~

"Part of the Plan" was my introduction to popular music when I was in 10th grade in Nashville, Tenn. I had never heard such a cool song! Since then, Dan Fogelberg's music has been a part of my heart. I will miss you. ~ Diane H.
I have been a fan since Souvenirs came out when I was only 13. Of course, I immediately went out and bought Home Free. To this day that is some of my all time favorite music ("Stars" may be one of my favorite songs EVER). I was such a fan that in my high school year book in 1979 I stated that my goal in life was "to marry Dan Fogelberg". Well, that didn't happen, but I did see him in concert many times and have loved him through the years. And, the man I did marry was also a huge fan. I knew from our first road trip together where we were blasting and singing "Part of the Plan" together THIS is the man for me to marry. Truly a sad day. My best wishes to Jean and all of his family and friends. May you be comforted by happy memories and his "Living Legacy". ~
Mrs. Gerry Leighton - Flanders NJ
Dan, Rest In Peace. Your beautiful music will live on forever.
I started playing guitar because of Neil Diamond. I continued playing
because of Dan Fogelberg. I could never thank him enough, but I'll forever
have his music.

Beautiful man and music. We'll miss him.
Dear Jean and family,
When I was a little girl, I'd listen to Dan's songs (his 1982 Greatest Hits, I was 4 when it came out) every night to fall asleep to. I'd have to get up every few minutes to rewind my favorites (especially "Run for the Roses") and would pretend to be asleep every time my parents would come in to check on me. I really didn't want them to turn off my tape and if I was drinking around with my tape recorder, they would."Run for the Roses" will always remind me of being a kid. And nearly every song of his reminds me of the happy times we had as a family listening to Dan. Long car rides up to the mountains, getting our Christmas tree, sitting around in the family room, just hanging out.
It was always my dream to see Dan in concert and I'm so sad I wasn't able to. My parents did see him in concert and called last night as soon as they found out to say they wished they'd taken me. Even though I wish I could have gone, I'm glad I didn't. My parents came home the next day all in love and cuddly. It was cute. Probably horrifying at that age, but really great now.
Sleep tight, Dan. You were my first crush (at ages 5-10), a wonderful singer, songwriter and, seemingly, a really, really nice guy. You also taught me through your lyrics that it was really important to be cherished by a husband someday. I've found my mountain guy and he's wonderful. Amazing what a good, little kid crush will teach you. The world will miss you.
You will all be in my thoughts.~

My deepest condolences to Dan's family and friends. I lost my husband to cancer, so I know what they are going through.
Dan has truly inspired so many people in this world with his gift. He has stayed with me since I was a young girl in the very north of Norway. His music touched me from the first note and has a true companion for over 30 years.
A wonderful man has moved on. May he find peace in the "river of souls." ~

My heart broke when I heard this news yesterday. I love Dan's music, as it
has touched me in ways that I cannot describe. God bless and peace my
friend. ~

Dan's songwriting and musicianship has been an inspiration to me. I
am
saddened by his passing, but I know he will live on in the great catalog of
music he has left to us. I lost my father a few years ago to prostate
cancer. My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Fogelberg family. Peace
Dan ~ Rick Soedler - New York
When my husband and I first met 24 years ago, Dan's music was the only music we agreed on. My husband, Tom, comes from Peoria and was a fan of Dan's from the beginning. We have passed our love for Dan's music on to our children, now 20 and 18 years old. We feel like we lost a part of our family yesterday. My husband and I together saw him in concert twice. The first was the fabulous one at the Fox in St. Louis in 1991. The last one was at the Palace in St. Louis about 5 years ago. To think that his voice has been silenced is such a sad thought. Our condolences to his wife, his mother and his brothers. He was truly the greatest. Rest in peace. ~

I pray for peace and love for the family at their loss. We will all
miss him and are grateful for his music that remains behind. I'm sure
he will be watching over each and every one of you.
Sincerely ~

We are just so sad to hear the news. Dan was one of our very favorites artists
of all times. His music has gotten us through so many rough times. His music will fill our house for years to come. Thank you, Dan. We will never forget you. Our thoughts go out to all of your family and friends. ~ Sue and George
Wow, I'm stunned. Heaven just gained another beautiful voice and lyricist.
I'll never forget the emotional feelings that come over me when I listen to
Dan's music. God bless you Jean and family. ~
Carl
Please give my heartfelt condolences to Jean and the rest of Dan's family. Dan's music has meant so much to me. We musicians have lost a kindred spirit and our "Leader of the Band." Rest in peace dear Dan. ~

My heartfelt condolences to Jean and Dan's family. His music will live forever.
Dan performing at Red Rocks in the 90's, what a memorable time, and so awe-inspiring. Thanks for your genius, Dan. You will be sorely missed. ~ Cyndy, a longtime Colorado fan
Our heartfelt sympathy go out to Dan's family. But it must be of great comfort to know that he will always be in everyone's heart every time they hear his music and prolific lyrics. We will miss him dearly but he will never be forgotten. ~ Lorelei & Dave
The world has lost a good person. Fortunately, he has left us his music. The
lyrics will linger on, as will our memory of him.
Godspeed Dan. Thank you for being there to touch and enrich us, and for sharing your talent.
Peace, love and prayers go out to those all who knew, loved and cared for him. ~

What a loss. It was because of Dan I began guitar lessons while in Jr High
in the early 70's. It was guys like Dan who have a real talent, just the
singer and his guitar; no back up singers, loud distorted instruments, or
computer generated "assistance" to make up for their lack of talent and
ability that we see in today's"artists" (I use the term loosely). Those of
us who grew up listening to Dan since the early 70's feel a deep sense of
loss as if it were a family member. I think I probably spent more quality
time in my room plucking my guitar to Dan's music than I did spending time
with the family (typical teenager).
My guitar teacher at the time asked me to bring in some "albums" that I
wanted to learn how to play. I brought in Dan's Home Free album. It's still
a favorite today. As Dan said in an interview, his music has touched a lot of people for a very long time, and speaking personally, it will be apart of
my life until I see another Fogelberg concert someday.
God bless to his wife Jean, thanks for sharing Dan with those of us who feel
we came to know him through his music. He will NEVER be forgotten. ~
Scott Campbell
My heartfelt condolences and prayers to all Dan's wife, family, friends and fans. Dan's music has touched my soul deeply like no other artist, and I've been passionate about his music for 30 years. May you all take solace in the music legacy he has left us all.
I will miss him. ~ Jan
How very sad to hear of Dan's passing. I have been a truly devoted fan
since the early seventies. I recruited about a dozen people to go to a Dan
Fogelberg concert around when he was diagnosed. We even had the tickets.
Unfortunately the concert was canceled. Although I will never get the chance to go
to "the concert" I was hoping for, his music will always be in my heart
dancing with tears now. My condolences go out to his family. ~ Sue-Berwyn - PA
" when faced with the past, the strongest man cries." ( from Souvenirs ).
You are part of my midwestern youth. Music to grow by and follow me to
the Rocky Mountains; "high on this mountain.. I'm feeling so strong and alive"
(from Nether Lands ). Thanks Dan. You kept my dreams alive. ~ James Mahan - Rawlins, Wyoming
Your music so often reflected my heart. We were blessed for a short time by the gift of
your voice and songs, now heaven is blessed with them for eternity. Thank you and
blessings to your family. ~ Tonitta
My world was shaken this morning. One of my favorite artists has passed and so has a piece of music. It is not selfishness that I intend, only the greatest compliment to a revered musician.
As one who did not follow his heart, Dan has always been an inspiration to me; living vicariously through his music you might say. His music is played often in my house. Even as I write this note, a kind reminder that it's the music and not the notoriety. In as much, as amateur musicians, my friends and I have tried for years not to butcher Dan's music. Let that be a testament to his impact. Unknowns trying to emulate the vast talent that Dan brought to this world.
My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family. ~

Dear Dan and Family,
I was deeply devastated as I listened to the announcement of your sudden passing. My heart and condolences go out to the family and closest of friends.

forever. "The Leader of the Band" has died. The world will never be the same
again. ~

To hear about Dan Fogelberg's passing deeply saddens me. My heart goes out to his family, as I have lost my father and my best friend to cancer recently. But the good news is he will be with us forever. His music, his voice. Thank God for Dan Fogelberg, where would we be without his music. ~ Tracey Bleahu
I too feel like I lost a dear friend this day. Dan's music has been with me for over 35 years. His music and heartfelt lyrics took me through all my ups and downs of life. I will truly miss him but he will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers to his family. God bless ~ Kathy Pace - Huntington Beach, CA
I'm so very sad to learn of Dan's passing. He was a huge influence on my
life beginning in the 1970's when I started listening to his wonderful music. My thoughts and prayers are with Dan and his family. ~ Gail Kelley (California)
Thank you, thank you, Dan. All I could think about this morning was
"watching the sun, watching it come...and it's going to be a day, there is
really nothing left to say but c'mon morning",even though my heart is very
heavy this morning. Thank you for getting me through heartaches,
life-changing moments and quiet times. You were there at all the important
times. Twenty years ago, I walked down the aisle as a bride, not to "Here
Comes the Bride" but to "Aspen."
Blessings to you and to your family.
"One road was simple, acceptance of life, the other road offered sweet
peace" - now you have found your sweet peace. ~

All the more reason to follow your passion; time is fleeting, live with
no regrets. My sincere condolences. ~

Your words and songs set into motion the creative efforts of many
artists who appreciate your music which lives on. We related to all of
the human and spiritual tales you spun and wove into the fabrics of our
lives. I treasure my LP's, CD's, and memories of places and events a
certain song will remind me of.
I count it as loss to everyone who heard your music and caught your
meaning.
Grace and Peace. ~

The music of Dan Fogelberg was such a comfort to me as a teen and remains so
today over 30 years later. He created such beauty with his lyrics and
melodies. I was so fortunate to have seen him in concert at Red Rocks in the
summer of 2000. Tears began to stream down my face as he started to play his
first song, it was a dream come true to be sitting there with him solo on stage. I know there will be many who will miss him forever.
Sincere condolences to his family. ~

Dan, You'll long be remembered. Thank you for your wonderful gift to us all. ~ David
I cannot add anything that is more than what others have so beautifully
expressed in their messages. My motto has always been "I am a part of all I
have met." While I never met Dan personally, his music met my heart and I am
glad he is a part of me. ~ Sheila in Colorado
Jean, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I work out of North Berwick Maine
and I never knew that you and Dan had a home in State. I was listening to a
local radio station that plays Christmas music during the season and Dan
came on. I just found out today that Dan passed on Sunday. My father
passed away eight years ago November 4th right before the holidays. I had a
very difficult time dealing with his death and understand your loss. Our
prayers are with you. Dan will live on with his words of great music. ~ Tom
Too soon taken, but the circle is complete. Dan, at times it seemed you wrote my life. The pains and the joys, seemed to parallel your music and words. Without knowing me, you held me through it all; and helped me through it all. I will miss you deeply. As deeply as your art has touched my life. May God bless you and give strength to those you love. ~

I've always said Dan had the voice of an angel. Now, he's singing with angels. Are they in for a treat.
