It is with a heavy heart that I write these words of condolence to those
closest to a true "Living Legacy'. Dan used the gifts that God gave him
to inspire and speak to so many of us who found familiarity and connection
to his music. I just played his Christmas CD last weekend as I was
putting up the tree and said a prayer for him. He left us so young and
too young but he will live on forever in his music and in all of us.
My deepest sympathies go out to his family and close friends.
Sincerely ~
Laurie Mancuso
Grant him eternal rest, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of this wonderful artist.
His lyrics touched my soul. Years ago a friend and I used to harmonize on "Longer." Then, as a horse racing fan, I was moved when "Run for the Roses"
was used one May to begin the broadcast of the Kentucky Derby. This year,
when Derby winner Barbaro was euthanized, that song appeared in some
beautiful tributes to him. And you can't scan the radio dial this time of
year without hearing "Same Old Lang Syne."
Most of all, his passing reminds me of a time when the music world cherished
the heartfelt contributions of sensitive singer-songwriters like Dan. I
mourn his loss along with the loss of a different time in America when truly
talented artists ruled the music world.
May he rest in peace. I like to think of him being nudged in heaven right
now by Barbaro. He's in good company.
Blessings ~

Dan brought peace to a very restless and unhappy teenage girl in the 70's. He brought happiness and joy to a young woman in love in the 80's. In the 90's he was introduced to my son, a restless young man looking for music that would touch his soul. His passing has touched my heart just as his life did. To his family, my heartfelt sympathy. He was and always will be a blessing to me and my family. ~ Carla from Georgia
God bless you and your family our prayers are with you. To pass at such
a young age must be terribly hard. I'm sure you will find peace among
all of our angels in the beautiful heavens above. You will be greatly
missed.
Sincerely ~

He made me believe in love again. May God hold him gently and may his family
be blessed with warm, endless memories. ~

Dan I was saddened to hear of your passing yesterday. All those months when we traveled
the midwest together in a station wagon with you opening for us in all those smoky clubs.
Just you and an acoustic guitar and we played loud and fast. Somehow the crowd always
listened and loved your music and we became fast friends back in Champaign, Il. My
thoughts and prayers are with you and Jean and thanks for all your great heartfelt music.
You'll be missed. ~ Alan Gratzer, REO Speedwagon
Now it feels like the snow turned into rain...My deepest
sympathy. ~
Lydia Olson
I will surely miss his spirit and will dust off a few recordings tonight
to remember him. His music brought my wife and me together and I've played
his songs a number of times in bars, parties, and back rooms where the
quietest of emotions can be heard.
My thoughts are with the family and those who loved him ~

From Spain I send my most sincere condolences to Jean and other relatives of Dan Fogelberg. All of them can be proud of a man who has brought happiness to thousands of people. His work will remain for all time. ~ Roque Soto
I was saddened to hear of Dan's passing. His work always touched a deep part of my heart in how it related to family and friends. Thank you Dan for sharing your gift. ~
Stephanie Danz,

I've been a singer/songwriter since 1970. Dan Fogelberg is and always will
be an inspiration to me. At age 16 he inspired me to take stage alone with an
acoustic guitar. Dan would sit down and play to 15,000 people as if he were
playing to just one person in the audience.. He had that personal touch. His
words spoke to me through good times and bad as I suffered through many
loses in my life including my father and even more so as a celebration of life
through his insights and charm. I never met Dan yet I felt like I knew him
deeply. When I perform many times some might say "I hear a little "Fogelberg
influence in there" which I would then respond "Dan's the man" :) He inspired
an entire generation of singer songwriters and stayed true to his beliefs all
the way to the end.
Like all ends that bring new beginnings. I hope this spawns a new
generation of Fogelberg fans because
Dan Fogelberg is a special person. If you're an old fan please take time to
go back into his musical library
and re-immerse yourself. You'll find yourself smiling. If you're a new fan, be
prepared to be inspired. Thank you my man...I love you and thanks for everything that you gave
me...gave us. You are still the Living legacy ~

To Dan, Jean, their families, and friends,
May the Lord bless and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious unto you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.
Our thoughts, prayers, and sincerest condolences are with you all. Thank you for sharing Dan with us. Heaven's choir is one beautiful voice stronger this Christmas season.
Dear family of Mr. Fogelberg--
I am so sorry for your loss, and our loss, of this incredible musician. My older brother played "Nether Lands" for me when I was about 12, and I thought it was incredible. I've ridden many miles, and spent many hours listening to his wonderful music. He was there for me at some rough times. I got to see Dan in concert twice, and both times were wonderful. Thank you for sharing him with us, and please know how many of us loved him and his beautiful music. ~
Keith Lyon, Knoxville, TN
I just wanted to take a moment to express my deepest sympathies to Jean and, as I'm sure she knows, tell her how much Dan's work touched so many lives. I'm very sorry for your loss. ~

I cannot tell you how sorry I am about hearing the news today. Dan's music has been a part of my life for over 30 years. My heart and prayers go out to his family at this sad time. With prayers and sympathy ~ Barbara Dinges
Oh, what a sad day this is. Dan was in my life musically through big moments in my life. At my wedding, I played his songs and at the birth of my children.
Many prayers for the family. I can't imagine how Jean feels to have lost her soulmate. It's not fair that someone so talented was taken away so young. God Bless. ~
Kelly Patton, Washington.
Dear Jean~
It's hard to know what to say at this moment...but it is with great love that I send these wishes during this sad time. We, many of us, loved him well and will miss his beautiful music. Please know you're in my prayers. I send you love and hugs .

I'm Margaret from Colorado, a decades long listener of Dan Fogelberg's. My deepest sympathy to his family and wife.
His music was an extraordinary experience to my life also. Through his insight I can truly say I could come to terms with my humanness. This coming from one who was unfeeling. His music opened my heart, and will always be with me. To his wife Jean, you were lucky to have known him, but I'm sure you already know that. My dream had always been to someday meet him. I will no longer have that chance. Time passes so quickly. All my prayers.
It's amazing how close a person can feel connected to someone they have
never met. I was blessed to have been able to see him in concert in
Biloxi, Mississippi and always wanted to have a second chance to make it
to the front row the next time. I cried when I learned about his
passing, not only because I will miss him being a presence on this Earth
but I can so relate to Jean and where she is right now. I was widowed
18 years ago and my heart goes out to her as she embarks on this long
journey of grief recovery. Just know that love and prayers know NO
distance and are being sent to you and all those who were touched by Dan
and his unbelievable music. THAT treasure can never be taken away from
us as long as we keep him alive in our hearts. All of our love to you

On May 20, 1975, Dan, opening for the Eagles, with Fool's Gold backing him at Hershey park

I am shocked and saddened by this news. "The lines of life are never
long when seen from end to end". Too damn true.
The world is made a little less by your leaving it Dan, but you left it

I am so very sad about the loss of this wonderful musician. I have
followed his music since the early 70s, and "grew up" with his work. Dan
was such a gifted man.. and it's tragic to have lost him so soon. I, for
one, will dearly miss him. Thanks, Dan, for all the years of great music.
May you rest in peace. ~

Thanks for the music Dan. ~

My deepest condolences to the family of Dan Fogelberg on his passing. I have always enjoyed his music, but being a horse person, his "Run for the Roses" always touched me to tears. He is now in the grandstand of the most beautiful race track of all, watching heavenly steeds of yesteryear in their own "Run for the Roses". May God Bless you all, and thank you for sharing Dan with his fans. Take care. ~

As I heard the news of Dan's passing this morning, I felt a little bit of my youth slip away as well. Having a father who was recently diagnosed and treated for prostate cancer, I know now that it is the time to stop making excuses and go for a psa test. I feel so lucky to have seen Dan in concert here in Central Illinois several times throughout the years, and will always have those fantastic memories forever. ~ Jay H, Decatur, Illinois
I have been a fan of Dan Fogelberg's music for as long as I can remember, and am
so saddened to hear of his passing. May his family find comfort in knowing how much Dan's magic touched so many.

To Jean and Family -
My family and I wish to send our deepest condolences to you and your family
for the loss of such a beautiful man. I had the pleasure of interviewing Dan
in 1993. I was a contributing writer to my ex-husband's local entertainment
paper, and was granted an interview with Dan before he came through to
promote his tour in our area. Being a fan of his music since 1973, I was
incredibly nervous and scared that I would come off like a complete fool.
Needless to say he was as sweet and wonderful as I had always believed he
would be. The interview went well and when I wanted to hang up because I
feared of taking up his too much of his time he encouraged a casual
conversation. He shared stories of the bands and people he admired and had
the pleasure of working with and knowing over the years. My half hour
interview lasted 2 hours. I deeply regret saying that I lost the tape of
that interview some years ago in a fire. But, I still carry the
memory deep in my heart and can remember how excited and thrilled he was
talking about his music, his fans, and how grateful and humble he was for
all he accomplished over the years. I feel so very privileged to have had
those few hours speaking with one God's messengers.
Good-bye Dan and Thank You. ~ Cecelia, Indiana
My thoughts and prayers are with the Fogelberg family. "Longer" was my wedding song in 1982, and still holds
a dear place in my heart. I will miss you, Dan, but your
music will forever keep you close.
Sincerely ~
Carl W. Fanning, Jr.
Jean & Families -
We have come to the crossroads where Dan has taken the high road. His
tenderness and love will surely brighten up the heavens. Dan was the best
singer/songwriter that this earth has ever had the privilege of hearing. Many a night in
Santa Fe, NM. I have laughed and danced with Dan. The first time we met,
people were falling over my left leg trying to get a closer look at the man, Dan.
He helped me stand then to walk to a safer place to enjoy him perform. (It
took nine years to walk without a brace.)
Many concerts later we met again at the Red Rocks, CO. He introduced his new
wife Jean, with love surrounding him.
Dan always did wear his heart on his sleeve. That is what we have all fallen
in love with. Thank You for that, Dan. The flame of my candle is lit with
prayers for you all -Jean, Family, Friends & Fans! Vaya con dios, mi Amigo (go with God my Friend) ~ Maggi Meadows-a fan for 30 years.
I am so sorry to hear about Dan's passing. I have loved his music and
attended his concerts since the 70's. I have all his CD's and albums and will
continue to play them in remembrance of his life. I am sure he has touched many
lives with his music. My prayers go out to his family. ~ Laurie T in CT
Thank you for sharing your gift and self with all of us over the years.
As with so many others, your music has touched my heart and meant so much
to us. Your light will be missed in this world, but will add to the
stars above.
Love and peace to your family. ~
The Hennessey's
There's a light in the depths of your darkness. Let it shine. Oh let it shine. Dan's passing will leave this earth without one of its greatest talents. I feel very privileged to have seen Dan play live many times over the years. My wife plain and simply adored you. Deepest regrets and peace to the entire Fogelberg family. From one Illinois boy to another, you were our boy! ~ TW
Dan's music touched my life repeatedly. Like so many others, I often
thought "he KNOWS me. He KNOWS what I've been through." The choir of angels
is just that much sweeter now.
Godspeed. He was loved so much. ~
Sue Henning-Mitchell
God Bless you, Dan. This world lost a truly inspiring human being. Your

Hello, It is with a heavy heart I send my condolences to the Fogelberg family. I am absolutely gutted at the news. May you accept my heartfelt gratitude to a true artist who will never be replaced. Dan, may you rest in peace. Kind regards ~

In 1974, my older brother started listening to an album I love to this day,
Souvenirs. I was 9 years old. I bought all the albums that followed for the next 34 years. The music of Dan Fogelberg was and will always remain a gift to us all. ~ Kimberly Brown.... Weston, Connecticut
I was born in 1975 and the one musician that was always on my parents'
stereo was Dan Fogelberg. He has been a part of my life as long as I
can remember. His music has been an inspiration and a comfort to me and
I will truly miss him. I hope for peace and stillness of the heart as
the family and close friends go through this difficult time. He led a
good life and did what he loved best and to me that is what matters the
most. ~ Sunni Thompson, Salt Lake City, Utah
Dan's music helped ease me more gently through my teenage years, and I
grew to appreciate him all over again in my 20s and 30s. He was a great
talent who entertained many, and he will be missed. My sympathies to his
wife and friends in this loss. ~
Martha Lundgren
I am deeply saddened at the news of Dan's passing. My sincerest condolences
go to Jean and Dan's family and friends. I feel that I have lost a friend
myself. I am so very grateful for the gift of Dan's music, as he was able to
express so beautifully so many emotions I've experienced, but was unable to
put into words.
My favorite "Fogelberg memory" comes from one of the many times my wife and
I were blessed to see Dan in concert. It was in Phoenix, AZ, and it was just
Dan and his guitars. At one point, while singing "Gambler," Dan asked the
audience to join him in singing "Let it shine." Dan dropped out for a while
and just let the audience sing on. It was an amazing sound, soft and
beautiful, in multi-part harmony, as if coming from heaven itself, wherever
that may be. For a few moments Dan just took that sound in (as we all did),
and then he softly said, "Ah, that's sweet."
Indeed it was, Dan. All of it. Thank you. ~
Gregory Brundage, Tucson, AZ
Thanks Dan, I never get tired listening to your music & lyrics. ~
Ron
Just one of the many nameless faces that loved your music. Thanks for all the great memories Dan. You truly will live on in your songs...to me..and many others. God Bless ~ Michael Miller, Austin Texas
My heart broke this morning when my husband called me on his way to work
to say that Dan had passed. I cannot tell you how much this man's
music has touched my life. I believe I truly learned about love
and emotions from the lyrics of his songs. From laying in bed crying to his music after a break up to "Longer"
played at my wedding, to his awesome blue grass cd "High Country Snows"
that we made a tradition to play on road trips!!
The essence of his spirit was the gift of music which says that he will
live on with his music. I have never had a musician touch my
heart and my soul as much as he did. Along with seeing him 5 times in
concert, I was always one of his biggest fans. I look so forward to seeing him again.
Longer,
with love for all you gave.
You will be greatly missed ~
Nancy Nytomt
Our hearts are heavy and our thoughts and prayers are with Jean and all of Dan's family. He will live ever on through his music and will never be forgotten. May you find peace ~ Carla and Gary Lee
I never could listen to "Leader of the Band" without tears welling up in my eyes for my own father, and to have lost the magic Dan brought to all of our lives is such a great loss. Many others have expressed in words things I have felt, and a truer and more talented craftsman in music will be long in coming. I am in his debt for the joy and pleasure his music gave me over the years. Godspeed to Dan's family. Thank you for the music. ~
Tom Martin
Wow....I was just checking up on news and spotted the sad news of Mr.
Fogelberg's passing. I wasn't a huge groupie type fan or anything but the name rang
a bell and when I heard the songs again I said wow what a shame. I am only
35, a former US Marine, working as an electrician these days in NYC. I can
remember being home from school, (when I was younger) sick and my mother
playing the radio and always hearing this guy's music. Very soothing and would
always make me feel better being home with Mom and hearing music like Mr.
Fogelberg's! Very sad! Nice to know a talented man like Dan can NEVER be forgotten
with the great music which will always LIVE ON! Condolences to your family!
Semper Fidelis ~

There is joy in the journey, thank you Dan. Peace–dear friend and generous teacher. I
sing to your spirit where all my dreams dwell.
The vision--the freedom, the life lived so well.
And I sing in your canyons and the echoes ring clear.
And I wish somehow you may still hear. ~

Dan's music meant a great deal to me and a girlfriend in the 1970's. But I have and will remain a fan until I too leave this world. Godspeed, Mr. Fogelberg. ~

I feel part of my life is gone too. Like us all, Dan's music touched us & soothed us. I
can recall certain times & events in my life by songs that were in the background. Dan
Fogelberg's music was part of the fabric of my youth, my adulthood. Especially this time
of year, we all know what songs we will be playing of his; which ones make us tender to
the utter unexpectedness that life (and death) bring.
Well done, Dan.
You have come, lived well, brought us all somewhat closer with your music. In this crazy
world, let's all take a minute, (or hours) to go to that special, haunting, lovely
place that makes us feel understood. The place you so eloquently sang of.
God bless your wife, family & loved ones.
They knew you fully ...They are blessed!
My heart and soul are so saddened by such a loss. Still, it is amazing
how so many lives have been so enormously and personally touched by Dan.
Thanks, Dan, for the gift you have shared...Ever On!!
As I view all of the condolences here today - I find myself crying...Mr.
Dan Fogelberg's music was very profound in my life. I met my husband and I told him after he
proposed that the song "Longer" would be our song. I always wanted that song to be played at my
wedding. You will truly be missed but your legacy will live on through all of us. ~ Laura Martz - Phoenix, AZ
"Leader of the Band" will forever make me think of my own father. Thank you, Dan, for
your incredible gift over the years.

I have listened to Dan Fogelberg, since I was in my 20's, he will truly
be missed. I love his music and I remember the first album I purchased - Phoenix. I still have it. Please accept my condolences. I can't tell you

Dear Dan & Family,
Thank you so much for making a positive difference with your talent in the world. I
especially love your Christmas CD this time of year. May the Lord bless you & your family. ~

To Jean, and all of Dan's Family, Friends and Fans -- May God comfort you all at this time. I cannot even find words to describe how saddened I feel at Dan's passing. His beautiful soul and artistic flair has and will continue to touch many. ~
Donna Ryder, NJ
Dear Mrs. Fogelberg;
I am very saddened to get this news today. I have been a fan of Dan's music since I was a teenager in the mid 70's . My first song I remember was the "Power of Gold", and the Twin Sons album. I have seen Dan perform once at Red Rocks in Colorado, and I was privileged to be in his presence one day when I was next to him at Wolf Creek Ski area in Southern Colorado. I have tried to play some of his music on my guitar and I have been humbled continuously each time I play "Old Tennessee" or "High Country Snows" and "Go Down Easy". Since I have left Colorado and moved to Michigan I think of Dan's music frequently and long for the San Juan mountains again, with "Cry in the Forest" and "The Wild Places". I remember the scenes and smells of the mountains and this takes me to a good place again, where I was happy in my life. I will go there again with each song I attempt to play and each song I hear over the stereo. I am fortunate to have the video of Greetings From The West and will memorialize him tonight when my wife and I can sit down and console each other while watching and listening to my most idealized musical artist. My heart and deepest sympathy go to you and your family today. Dan has touched many hearts and the results are immeasurable.
Sincerely ~
Eric Marty,
Grand Haven, Michigan
Jean and all who love Dan,
I have loved him since high school in '71. Funny, I never knew he painted.
I'm a portrait artist who now teaches. His was one of the faces I did when I
was first drawing people. I miss him already. He's just on the other side-
no ending.
Love and blessings ~

We walked "up the aisle" to the violin and flute of "Aspen" 25 years ago. Our
hearts were touched when Dan announced his battle with prostate cancer had
begun. We walked "up the aisle" again to "Aspen" this summer at our 25th
Anniversary, this time escorted by our children ages 18,16, and 14. They are
among a group of teens more familiar with the gifts of Fogelberg lyrics and
melodies than their adolescent friends. We will miss your lovely song and
soul within, and make sure our future children and grandchildren hear it as
well. ~
Kelly Barnett & Rich Jany
Farewell and Godspeed, Dan.
Our sympathy and most sincere condolences to Dan Fogelberg's
family.
A talent fully used, a humane voice celebrating our short lives on earth at
their most poignant and bittersweet moments.
What more can you ask of life, except to live it longer among people we
love, doing what we love? Thank you for including the message on prostate
cancer prevention on your condolences page.
And thank you, Dan, for helping so many of us get over so many mountain
passes. We'll see you down the road.
To Dan's loved ones,
I am very saddened of Dan's passing, but knowing that he is no longer in
pain, and with the Lord. I didn't have a chance to play his songs until
a year ago, when a dear friend started playing his music, and at the
same time would play his guitar along with his singing. He was such a
big fan of his, that I also became one too. My prayers are with your
family. ~
A recent but grateful fan.

Every once in a while a true songwriter and singer comes along to touch the hearts of everyone. For me it was and will always be Dan Fogelberg. I was devastated to hear of his passing but thrilled that I was able to see him in concert in 2000 in D.C. Rest in peace, Dan, and know Jean that this fan will keep you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. ~

Dan Fogelberg's music was a major inspiration to me through out my life.
I fondly recall the wonderful way he made me and my high school
sweetheart feel.
A romance that is still unforgettable with Dan's music as our
soundtrack. We had the wonderful opportunity to watch him perform at
several of his concerts.
Dan represents to me a wonderful time in my life, and he is definitely a
part of the soundtrack in my life. I am truly appreciative of the depth
in the meanings of his songs, in his words, and in his ability to craft
an impressive array of sounds with his palette of sounds.
In my heart, in my mind, in my soul, Dan Fogelberg will live on. I will
show my children to appreciate him.
I am truly saddened to learn of his passing away. It is as if though a
part of my own life passed on.
My deepest condolences to the family of Dan Fogelberg. May his music and
all he stood for live on and on.
He is a true musician and the leader of my band. ~

I haven't been able to stop crying today. Dan Fogelberg has left a huge void in the hearts and souls of all who loved his beautiful music.
God bless always.
A forever fan ~

Dan Fogelberg's music was such a large part of my early teens. I
listened to Souvenirs and Captured Angel so many times I am surprised
that the grooves are still in the album. I might have had a few
fantasies of growing up and marrying him one day also!
I am glad he was a part of my growing up. It was a good time to be a kid
and have such wonderful musical influences. He will be missed.
Wow. I just read the internet obituary. I wish I could have written this sooner. To Jean, your husband's music was a refuge I have returned to on a regular basis for 30 years. I was a freshman in college when I first heard the album "Nether Lands". That one album has gotten me through countless broken hearts and moments of despair. "Lessons Learned" says it all.
God Bless You. My thoughts and prayers are with you. ~
Carol Smith
My deepest sympathy to the Fogelberg family. I just lost a very good
friend
to brain cancer 12/13/07 and can relate to your pain.
The heavens truly now have two angels.
I loved the music of Dan Fogelberg and he will be truly missed.
Believe in the power of prayer, Fogelberg family, as nothing is greater.
Godspeed.
Thank you! ~ Chuck

The Fogelberg family, know that Dan was blessed with the talent and heart
to touch so many people in the world. I have played his music for over 30
years and every time I've heard someone say, "I love that song". Dan
will be heard for generations, that's "A Part of the Plan" ~ Dan Winkler
To the Fogelberg Family,
I started loving Dan's music in the 70's when I was at college. I am from Illinois.
That he was from here was a source of great pride. I was lucky enough to see Dan perform
4 times in my life and count those as some of the finest concerts I have ever seen. As
a Music Teacher, I taught my kids Dan Fogelberg songs. They loved it. So sorry to hear
of his passing. A truly great talent taken much too early. My sympathies are with you. ~
Patty Baugh-Riechers

Your voice was like that of an angel. May your memory live long in our lives for the wonderful sounds you gave us.
It is with such a heavy heart that I say thank-you and farewell to a friend
in music. How wonderful to have touched as many lives and hearts as Dan did.
In his short life, he truly gave a gift to countless strangers...thank-you
brother. Jean, my heart goes out to you.
Sincerely ~ Janis in Sonoma
Wow! I remember playing a stand-up bass on stage with Dan at the Red Herring real late
one night. I will never forget him and we are all going to miss him! ~ jim zdunek, aka The
Bugman, Chicago.
Dan,
You have touched my life ever since my early twenties, and now I'm fifty.
You will be greatly missed. This is a very sad day for me. I'm sitting here
crying, feeling a sense of loneliness. Perhaps in due time, that will pass.
Until then Dan, God Speed. Love you. ~

To Jean and the rest of Dan's family, I am so saddened about his passing and your loss. He has always been and will always be my favorite artist, and one of the most influential people in all aspects of my life. I know that there is a place in Heaven for a gambler, and he's probably having a jam session with John and George right now. We were blessed to have him, and thankfully his words and music will fill our hearts forever. Even though I was never lucky enough to meet him, I knew a small part of him through is writings and a voice that brought me to tears. It was obvious that the last few years were the happiest of his life, and I hope you can find comfort in that and knowing how many lives he touched. His light will always shine.
Sincerely ~

To all of the Fogelberg family and friends. Dan Fogelberg not only gave me
and many other people beautiful music, he gave me words that allowed me to
think about love, the world, the earth in ways I may not of thought of. In ways
that actually changed my life at times. We will all miss this beautiful soul
dearly. God Bless you all. ~
Bill Frank - New Jersey
To the family and friends of Dan Fogelberg,
I was a teenager in the 70's and spent countless hours listening to
Dan's music, playing guitar and singing his music, sharing his music
with friends and dreaming of someday marrying someone like him (ok maybe
I dreamed of marrying him!). When I married my high school sweetheart,
my sister recited the words to "Since You've Asked" at the ceremony.
Because of this, he will always have a special place in my heart. My
sincere condolences to you for your loss. ~
Pam Neves
My heart is at once heavy as I grieve the loss of your earthly presence
and
grateful that you now walk with the Great Spirit and suffer no more. Jean I
know I join many in sending you peace, comfort and strength.
Dan, thank you for the immeasurable joy your music brought to my life.
Music above all else, can fill the world with profound gifts and by sharing
yours, the world is a more beautiful place. ~
Jenny Michaels,
Nevada City, CA
Dan,
You wrote the soundtrack for the courtship and marriage to my wife, Patty. You consoled us during a brief breakup and carried us through 22 years of wedded bliss. You've touched so many hearts on so many levels. You waged a brave battle against cancer and raised awareness about the disease. You have earned your peace. The rest of those who love you, will carry your legacy.
Peace to Jean and the Fogelberg family. ~

Dear Fogelberg family,
I have followed Dan's diagnosis and struggle with both personal and
professional interest. Like thousands of others, Dan's music was part
of the tapestry of my college days in the late 1970's. I can't tell you
how many of us in nursing school talked of using "Longer" in our future
weddings.
As a nurse that works with prostate cancer patients, I can tell you
there is a strong brotherhood that is grieving with you these days.
But, I want you to know that on the most popular radio station in the
Dallas/Fort Worth area today, not only was Dan's music highlighted, but
his message about the importance of getting checked. This radio station
plays "oldies" and has a 40-60 year old demographic. They shared the
importance of digital rectal exam and getting the PSA test - they did it
in a way that was respectful, but to the point that men need to "get
over" the process and get checked. Maybe now that someone like Dan has
died too early, men will listen. Thank you for sharing your lives and
pain with us.
God bless you! ~

I'm from Louisville, Kentucky and have lived for many years away from my
home. But whenever I hear Dan's "Run for the Roses" a lump comes to my
throat and I remember how much I miss my old hometown. I will miss the
good man who sang such a beautiful song.
My condolences go out to Dan and his family. He was and is one of my favorite musicians.
~ Tabitha Schaffer (nee McDaniel)
Dan, I hope you are smiling from your rocky perch. Thank you for the
beautiful music. ~

To the family and friends of Dan Fogelberg,
My wife and myself wish to express our condolences for the passing away
of Dan. We pray for God's strength and comfort to be with you all.
We also, along with millions of others, have been long time listeners
and fans of the music created by Dan. We felt a common bond (both
being Illinoisian transplants to colorful Colorado) with Dan and always
enjoyed "High Country Snows" on our road-trips around the state. We
have always been fans of the singer/songwriter musicians and Dan has
been one of our favorites. He has made us laugh, cry and feel. He will
be missed but his music will endure.
Thanks for the memories ~ Dale and Rita
I send my sincerest condolences to the Fogelberg family. We'll miss
Dan. ~ Jim
Oh, I am heartbroken! His songs have always touched me deeper than any others. I still
remember 6th grade (early 80's), lunch milk monitor for the day, when a friend put her
headphones over my ears because she loved this song so much. It was the first time I ever
heard of Dan Fogelberg; I was hooked and reeled in. It was," Same Old Lang Syne". The fact
I remember the first time I heard his music, well over 20 years ago, says what his songs
and music have meant to me. Peace for his wife, and for her to know Dan and his songs
will never be forgotten. ~ Julie in Missouri
So sorry for your loss. I know the past several years have been most difficult
for all of you. Some one gave me this when my Mom passed and it has stuck with
me forever. I hope you can enjoy the meaning of it as I do to this day. Know my
prayers and thoughts are with you. It is very difficult at first, but after awhile its like a room in your house. When you want to, you can go into the room and enjoy the memories, and then, when you are ready, you can leave and close the door behind you. The room is always there for you to re-enter when you feel the need. For the time Dan walked this earth, know, he brought much love and joy to all those around him and his fans. And he was loved in return. He touched the hearts, and lives of his family and others. He will always remain in the hearts of those people he touched. May God give you comfort during this time. ~ Gail and Billy New Britain, CT
My deepest sympathies on the loss of Dan. I grew up listening to his music as a kid and
still listen to it as an adult. I will never forget his sweet voice and inspiring
lyrics. He will be truly missed. God Bless and my sincerest sympathies. ~ Tammy

A job well done Dan!! You will missed and certainly not forgotten. Thanks

I am so saddened by Dan's passing. He was a wonderful man and brilliant
songwriter. There are few such as he in this world. ~ Nancy Walker

Some 30+ years ago, my Mom and Dad bought me my first stereo record player along
with Dan's LP
"Twin Sons of Different Mothers". I remember how I felt playing my first record and what an amazing
songwriter I was listening to. Dan was always with me in song as I listened at home, driving in my car,
kissing my first girlfriend, breaking up with my first girlfriend, going to work, everywhere. My friend called me
while I was driving home last night and informed me of the news. Shock comes to mind and the tears
came when I finally returned home. Jean, please accept my sincere sympathy. I know that Dan was an
exceptionally amazing man that graced us with his wonderful words and music. Dan, may the heavens
enjoy your music now. A truly amazing talent has left us all, but you'll never be forgotten. Thank you for
the amazing memories Dan. May peace be with your family as they all know that you were so loved
by many. ~ Michael Stanford, Cumberland, RI.
Rest in peace river man. May the "light in the depths of your darkness" shine
on you forever more. ~ Steve-Austin, Tx
Dan's passing is a loss that is very personal, because listening to his music will always
engage meaningful memories of my life . . . when, where, what we were doing. I am
overwhelmed with sadness and the realization that we can no longer hear his words with
new songs. We shall miss his voice. ~

Dear Jean and Dan's Family,
Our family extends to you our heartfelt thoughts and prayers of comfort and love as you
experience the loss - yet celebrate Dan's life and gifts. In his living, he touched so many with
his music, laughter, art, friendship and giving of himself to help others and the environment.

My wife informed me last evening of Dan's passing. I had no idea he was ill.
She and I reminisced about attending one of Dan's concerts in Asheville, N.C.
many years ago when we were first married. What a great time we had. I first began
listening to Dan's music thirty years ago while in college. I told my wife that his
passing reminded me of my own mortality...as someone of my generation, he
will be sorely missed. ~
Randy Gray, Columbus, Oh.
I will never forget the way Dan's music made me feel. I have been listening to
him since "Home Free". ~

Dan Fogelberg's music has been a part of my life since the early 70's. The
wonderful memories that are awakened whenever I hear his music are too many
to list. I shed a tear today for Dan's physical passing, but his spirit
and music will be with me forever. Thank you Mr. Fogelberg! ~

My heart aches today at the news of Dan's death. He made a tremendous
impact on me as a young girl growing up.
His music affected me more than words can say! To lose his life at such
a young age, the same age as my father was
when he lost his own battle with cancer makes it even harder. Dan's
music will live on forever in my heart and mind!
Rest in peace beautiful man. ~
Lynne Fox,

What a very sad day! Dan and his music have been a source of inspiration and comfort for
so many. Now, hopefully, we, who have been graced with his music, can return that
inspiration and comfort to his family and loved ones. Dan will be missed but through his
music we will all keep a part of him with us. Farewell, Dan...my thoughts are with his
family! ~

To All Family Members -
I was shocked to hear of Dan passing away today and am saddened, truly saddened. After my father passed away in the late 70's from cancer until the mid 80's there were many artists I clung to who helped me through the rough times and Dan was definitely one of them. He truly left a lasting legacy that will stand the test of time. Dan you are gone but never forgotten. You are all in our thoughts.
Sincerely ~
Jack Evans
