Dan, Even though you are gone, God now has the pleasure of listening to you and your music. I heard you in 75 at UVA- wow. You were a true genius in your own way, and your music impacted my life in ways that language cannot describe. You will be missed not only by your family, but by millions of people. "Same Old Lang Syne"- brilliant . What a gift you were to the world. Prayers for the family. ~ Doug

He has always had the ability to put into words and music the feelings we all share. He will be greatly missed. I am sorry for your loss and for ours. ~ Don Miller - Guitar/Vocalist

It's taken me some time to gather my thoughts, I am so heartbroken. First of all, my thoughts and heartfelt prayers go out to Dan's wife, Jean and to all those who were blessed enough to know him and love him in this life. This is such a great loss for you and for all of us who only knew him through his music, but loved him nonetheless. I can't remember a time in my life, since I was a teenager to this very day that one song or another of Dan Fogelberg's was not running around in my head. I was hooked the moment "Nether Lands" came out. I feel like I've known him and loved him all my life. My heart is broken for you and for all of us. The world has lost one of the truly greats. The only bright spot on this sad day is that Dan's music is so timeless and he did leave a Living Legacy that will live on forever through our children's, children's children. And deep down we know that leaving this life is not really the end, it's only the beginning of Dan's journey to the real Nether Lands. Enjoy the journey, Dan, but you will be greatly missed here on earth. Much Love. ~ Debbie Thomas

God Bless you Jean and all of Dan's family....My heart breaks for you. Dan touched my life through his music and I am truly saddened to hear of his passing. May you find peace and understanding at this sad time. ~ Cheryl - California

What an incredible loss we have to bear. For myself, Dan was an inspiration of enormous magnitude. I was not a fan until I was introduced to his music by my college roommate. He would play the "Innocent Age" as he studied or just sat in his room and I was so moved by what I heard. His gift for lyrics was rare and, though I never knew the man, I will mourn his passing. My sincerest condolences to his family. ~ Dan Myers - Pittsburgh, PA

Dan Fogelberg will be missed! But his legacy of great music will never die! My condolences to his family and friends, and all who loved his life and legacy. ~ Matt

Dan Fogelberg's music was always so special to me, as it touched a place in my heart. Wonderful lyrics and melodies, along with his beautiful voice, he touched many hearts, I believe. I wanted to send my condolences to his wife and family, as I am sure he will leave a void. I believe that love never dies, so his love with always be with you.
~ Lynne Henderson

Dan's music touched our hearts, touched our souls, and touched our lives. I don't think ANY musician could ever do any more than that. He did exactly what he set out to do...he touched us all. I thank you for the music and memories, Dan and I thank God, for Dan Fogelberg. ~ Tim O'Riley - Warren, MI

From an ordinary fan who has always loved your sound, your words and your music - thank you. Those words and music will remain with us always even as you now journey on to make more music as you take your last race for the roses. Our life is sadder now for our loss but hopefully you move on with peace in your heart. ~ A Canadian in Colorado, Ann Herb

Hard to imagine that such a terrific man has to leave us. We're better for living in the time that he did, that much is certain. I remember, in the late 70s, standing on a mountain at dawn in West Virginia, listening to "Nether Lands" and feeling... 'so strong and alive,' as he said it. That moment has never left me. Neither will he, or his music. Thanks, Dan. Couldn't have done it without you. Hang in there Jean. Count your blessings. ~ Robert - Fredericksburg, Va

You have been a part of my musical library for over 30 years and I still recall the place that I felt your gypsy wind playing upon my face. You brought much comfort with your poetic words as you will continue to do for many. We here on earth have lost an angelic voice, but the legacy WILL live on, as you truly are the "Leader of the Band" in Rock and Roll Heaven. God speed to Jean, as she must think she is climbing a mountain of darkness, stranded alone on the ledge...you are her star in heaven now. We will miss you!

Was staring out at a snowy Michigan scene when I heard the sad news. I only saw him once in concert but he played his heart out, as always. Condolences to his family/friends. "Our snow just turned to rain ...." ~ Mike Martindale - Davisburg, Mi

Namaste my friend, for all you & your music has gotten me through over the years. ~ Sandra Mahoney - Portsmouth, NH

It would not be an understatement to say that the world is crying today. Dan's music is a soundtrack to many of our best moments in life. I know they are in mine. His moving music and lyrics will continue to be adored for generations to come. Heaven has become an even more beautiful and wondrous place with his arrival, though we here on earth will mourn his loss. May Jean find comfort in the memories of all the good times they shared and know that many hearts are sharing her pain. I was fortunate enough to see Dan in concert three times and came away more in awe of him and his talent that ever. We thank him for his music and his sense of humor and we will miss his light on this earth, though I'm sure a star will shine a lot brighter tonight to let us know his spirit goes on. A fan forever. ~ Marie Martin - Dayton, Ohio

Very sad to hear of Dan's passing. He was a genius musician to me and his music will live on forever in my heart. My condolences to his family. ~ Leo Melanson

I'm too sad for words, but please know that thoughts and prayers are with Dan's family. RIP, Mr. Fogelberg!

To Dan's Family, I love "Leader of the Band" with the warm harmonious horns. My son plays trumpet and Dan passed on his 11th birthday, Dec 16th. My favorite of course is always and has been, "High Country Snows" because I'm of the bluegrass mold. My prayers are with the family and all concerned who were close to Dan, in and out of the music business. ~ Bob Garcia - A Fan

Dan's songs were always a definite stop on the radio dial, a conjurer of memories to heal a bad day or start a good one..and now they will always be devoted to his memory instead of ours.

Your songs "Longer" and "Heart Hotels" are amongst my favorites of all time always making time stand still, thank you Dan and God bless you always. Farewell & Aloha ~ Your Friend Michael Covington - Honolulu, HI

Dan's music touched me in very special ways. May his family find comfort in God's peace at the difficult time. ~ Kathleen - Massachusetts

What a beautiful spirit he has.Much love and care to his wife Jean and their families. Love ~ Amy

This morning, the radio station I listen to,WXPN in Philly, was playing "Same Old Lang Syne", and then they made the announcement that Dan had passed early Sunday morning. That song still leaves that feeling in the pit of my stomach. We will be listening to those CD's this Christmas. Your gift of music you shared with us over these years will be with the world forever...my condolences to Dan's wife and family.

I'm blown away today. In the season of giving, news of Dan's passing hit our family hard. We kept hoping for the best, and little news updates appeared to be good news, for so many months. My wife and I met in college, and in part, working on a school project about Dan's career, developed our love Susan, my wife and her sister, brought Dan's music into our lives and we have shared his songs ever since, whether it be on an album or in concert. There can be no happiness in Dan dying, especially at this time of year, but his legacy lives on in the many fine songs he crafted over the years. My heartfelt condolences to the family. On this sad day we celebrate the life of Dan Fogelberg. "We drank a toast to innocence, We drank a toast to now, And tried to reach beyond the emptiness, But neither one knew how". ~ David Allan for Susan - Chicago, Illinois

The first time I heard Dan's music was in 7th grade in a music class back in 1981. I don't remember much about that class or anything else I was taught, but the words and music from "Leader of the Band" stuck with me. While my situation was a little different than what Dan describes in this song, I too come from a musical family and felt like I was in my Mom's musical shadow. I still feel like my voice or musical skills will never be able to compete with hers, but his song gave me inspiration that even so, I could still make my own music and that it could still be a tribute to my heritage. I've never written a fan letter before, but at this time I thought it appropriate to say "Thank you" to someone who wrote such beautiful and inspirational music and who had an early impact in my life. Dan - You will be missed.
~ Nesasha Lacefield

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and close friends of Dan Fogelberg. As one of many fans from around the world, thanks for the joy and inspiration that Dan's music gave. As a singer, wherever I played one of Dan's songs, people would always connect..."Morning Sky", "Longer", "Leader of the Band", "Same Old Lang Syne" and others. Dan will be missed, but fortunately his voice and lyrics live forever! God bless... Thanks. ~ John

To Dan's Family and loved ones: deepest condolences for the loss of such a talented musician and beautiful person. May God's blessings and comfort be with you. Dan will be truly missed by all. ~ Karen - Dripping Springs, Texas

My condolences for the passage of Dan, and may God give comfort for his family. I love his music, and his songs , for sure, will linger on. Dan, you gave us all a gift, that we know we can´t repay. ~ José Alberto - Brasil

A great music man and human being left us for greater places. He will be missed. "Leader of the Band" was and still is my favorite. ~ Bernice Miller

My sincere sympathy to Dan's family. As someone who grew up with his music in the 70's and have listened to it ever since, Dan's death is a great shock and loss. I still can't believe it. He was so young, what a shame. There is an emptiness. But what a contribution he made while he was alive! He will be missed by me and countless others!
~ Denise, NJ.

Oh, what a huge loss! I My heart cracked when I saw the news. I've been a steady fan since the day at college that I first heard "Home Free". His music, of course, is the legacy he leaves to current and future fans--and so rich a legacy. But I think he also leaves a legacy about how to live, especially when fame brings its fortune and curse. He came across as someone who was modest and genuine, and had his priorities straight. A good soul. A friend in the music business said you never heard anything bad about Dan. He also had a wonderful and wicked sense of humor, which he'd show during his performances. Last night, after I read the news, I listened to several of Dan's ballads. A lyric that stays in my mind this morning is from "Bones in the Sky": "A life lived so well." To Jean and all of Dan's loved ones: I hope it helps to know how many of us mourn with you. I am, we all are, richer because he graced this world. ~ Joan

My thoughts and prayers go out to Jean and the rest of Dan's family. Since the release of "Souvenirs" in 1974 when I was a high school sophomore, I have been captured by Dan's exquisite, soul-searching lyrics, moving melodies, haunting instrumentals, dazzling collaborations, and "outside-the-box" search for new musical heights that he sought to reach and always accomplished with simple excellence. His music still resonates with me 33 years later. He has always been and will always be my favorite singer/songwriter. For me, "Same Old Lang Syne" will never be the same! I thank the God of the Universe that Dan left the legacy he did.

I am so sad. But so happy to have had him touch my soul. God bless him and you, his family. "He gave to me a gift I know I never can repay". Much love. ~ Meredith White

My heart goes out to Jean and I pray that God will comfort her broken heart and give her peace in knowing so many hearts and souls that were touched by her husband, Dan Fogelberg's beautiful music. What a blessing his life was to so many, especially Jean, I'm sure. What a blessing it must have been to be married to such a man with such a huge heart. May God bless you and comfort you in your grief and devastation. He was truly a gifted artist and his legacy will go on forever and continue to touch and bless the hearts of those who listen to his music. ~ Karen Sanders - Daphne, AL

Dear Jean, This must be such a sad time for you and I can only imagine the pain you are going through. The news of your husband's passing I'm sure has hit all who knew him very hard. His music spoke of a gentle soul with so much to share - it is such a shame this bright light was extinguished too soon. It must have been very difficult for you to watch the man you love suffer and decline from the cancer. My mother passed away from cancer and, I too, have had to fight this disease. Unfortunately, I don't believe you are ever truly "cured" but instead learn to live with the consequences of this condition. No matter what the circumstances, however, I know you're being there had to mean everything to Dan. I just hope and pray that you now have as strong support system to help you. My husband has recently had a heart scare and I think the hardest thing for me is knowing that he could leave me at any time. This truly scares me, but I find a great deal of comfort in remembering all the wonderful reasons I love the man. Not sure if any of this is of any comfort to you, but I just wanted to let you know I (we, my husband and I) are thinking of you. You, Dan and your entire family will be in our prayers and if there is anything we can do to help, please ask!! ~ Phyllis & Ken Morrow

My wife and I give our condolences to you, Jean Fogelberg, for the loss of your good husband, Dan. I am sorry for your pain, but I assure you, he is in a much better place. A time will come when you and all the world will see and hear Dan sing again. When I was a young, shy teenager of 16 back in 1977, I first heard a song from your husband on the radio, the classic title cut "Nether Lands", a tune that deeply moved me, especially musically. It was one of a few songs ever written in rock history that shaped the style of music I would firmly get to like within me. The Nether Lands album would turn out to be the first record I purchased in my life, and one I consider to be a masterpiece. I wish to thank Dan Fogelberg for writing these songs and many other great tunes that he created. God truly works in mysterious ways. Just about three days ago, I found out that Dan Fogelberg had cancer by looking him up on the internet for the first time, wanting to read his biography. My own father died of cancer in 1990 similarly, as well, so I know the rugged road. My heart and prayers go out deeply and truly to the great Dan Fogelberg. He was a good songwriter, but to me more importantly, a man of respect and love. I saw this in his love for his father. "Kindness to a father shall never be forgotten", it is written. May God rest his soul. ~ Michael B. Galaburri - Milford, Connecticut

Although we never met, I feel like I just lost a best friend. ~ Michael

The world is a much darker place without you my friend. You arrived here on this planet during a meteor shower and so you left us during one. Let the heavens place a star in the night sky for you so when your family and friends raise their heads in the darkness questioning why?, they will see the star and be reminded of your greatness. ~ D'Anna Shumate

My prayers are with you Jean! Sunday was my 38th birthday and I had recently been thinking about how Dan was doing. I was heartbroken when I heard the news. My brother also passed away from cancer almost four years ago. I will greatly miss his solo concert music, having seen him on stage at least 15 times. God bless and take care. ~ Jeff - Erie, Mich

Not even knowing of Dan's passing, I was driving down the road Sunday feeling down and began singing "Part of the Plan". A few lyrics into the song and the blues disappeared. His words and music have a mystical and healing quality. I believe that they will live on and be a comfort and joy to us all forever. I will miss knowing he's out there making music. My deepest condolences to his loved ones. ~ Susan B. Shaheen

Dearest Dan, The voice of an angel. Your music has given me so much joy. In your memory I played "Nether Lands" for you today. I have played that song hundreds of times, it is my favorite. Today the words seemed so prophetic and beautiful. God has received a very special man into heaven. I pray for you and your family, friends and fans who are grieving the fact that you left us way too soon. You will always be an inspiration to others with any form of cancer. I know you have helped save other peoples lives by promoting early detection. Thank you for sharing your love of music with the world. You will never be forgotten. God bless your beautiful soul, and God comfort those who love you and help them through their grief. With love forever. ~ Kari Christensen

I am thankful for the way Dan's music has changed my life. I believe I have every album he ever released. Truly, he was blessed by God with an amazing gift of song. It was a great experience for me to see him in concert twice. (The second time, it was his solo acoustic tour in 2001, and I was lucky enough to be in the front row- it was incredible.) My favorite songs of all are "Same Old Lang Syne", "Leader of the Band", "Forefathers", "Believe in Me", "Dancing Shoes", and "High Country Snows". Dan Fogelberg was one of the most gifted people in this world. He will be forever missed. May he rest in peace. ~ David Phillips - Southgate, MI

Dan is finally residing in Heaven, the place from which his music has always originated.

The world has lost a great talent and wonderful man, but the universe has gained a shining star. Dan's music has been the soundtrack of my life since I first heard his Captured Angel album in 1975. I have all his music and continue to listen to it all to this day. I have been very fortunate in being able to see him in concert three different times, venues and states. He will be missed but never forgotten. My condolences go out to Jean and his family at this difficult time. Ever on, Dan. ~ A Colorado Fan

Hello, Dan's music and lyrics have always touched my heart. I had no idea he was battling cancer. I am battling stage 4 colon cancer right now. I am 52 years old. This morning, I was sitting in my car waiting for my daughter when I heard the song "Ghosts" (is that right?) on the radio. It literally lifted me into another level of thought. I sat and cried as I listened, and then when the radio announcer said this was in memory of Dan Fogelberg who died yesterday morning, well... what can I say? What a powerful, powerful song. I have been looking online for it. Did Dan record this on a CD? Could you please help me find it? I need to pass it along to others that I know who are also battling cancer right now. Thank you so much. My sincere condolences. ~ Jane Easton - Corvallis, Oregon

I am SO sorry. I am so sad. I heard of Dan's passing by chance while driving to a job this a.m. I can't even grasp the reality of someone who was so important in my life being gone, with such a struggle. BUT I DO remember Dan and his music..."LONGER"....will carry on and on and on.

Dan Fogelberg's music has touched my husband and me for decades! We were married in 1980 and our wedding song was "Longer". Through the years, we saw Dan in concert many times. His beautiful music will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers to his wife, Jean and his entire family.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Dan's passing. We're all blessed for the contributions that he has made in his short life. He has truly left a positive mark and contribution in our society with his beautiful music. My greatest condolences to the family, and those whom were so very close to him. ~ Jeff Pritchard - O'Fallon, MO

I am pleased that he is no longer in pain, but deeply saddened that he has left us. "Leader of the Band" was an inspiration to me, who grew up without a dad and did not fully understand, nor could I, how he really felt about that song. Nonetheless, that song was one of my favorites of ALL times. Sincere condolences to his family and close friends from my family to yours. ~ The Rinehart's - Houston, Texas

The older we all get, the more sure we are to stumble upon sad news like the early passing of Dan Fogelberg. I live on Long Island. Always have. Growing up with WLIR and WNEW, I was lucky to be introduced to Dan's music early. I can make this kinda quick....He was one of the very best at guitar playing, singing, songwriting, arranging musicians (even if most of them were him), conducting, painting, performing, and.....caring....caring about all of it. I'll miss every piece of the man. ~ Tim Finnegan

Say it isn't so!! My heart aches for the family of one of my most treasured musical artists....last night my 38 year old daughter called (devastated) from Dallas with the news.....just another tribute of how Dan's music crossed generations. We will forever by touched by the unique talent of your loved one. Thank you and best wishes. ~ Becky Cornett - a long-time fan from Louisiana

Dan, we attended the University of Illinois (both art majors) at the same time, and your gift to us is eternal. As you wrote and sang about your father, "your song is in my soul", so shall it be for all you have touched. My wife and I met at U of I, and "Longer" captures our emotion like no other. You are a gentle, loving, lasting voice that will always bless people through the ages. We will meet again, my friend. God bless you. ~ Scott Thorn Barrows

Our deepest sorrow. Dan's music has been a constant in our own musical journey, and it will continue to resonate within us even with his passing. Our thoughts go out to his family for their great loss. ~ Suzanne Morley and Jon Frolick - Alberta, Canada

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of such a sweet singer/songwriter. As a young adult, I thrived on his music. Many mornings as I was getting ready for work, I'd play "To the Morning". "Longer" was sung at my first wedding, and I believe his music played in the background when I "became a woman?" He was the master of the heartfelt love song and his music was the soundtrack of my young adult life - being a starry-eyed, hopeless romantic just embarking on my journey into adulthood. As I sit here writing this tribute, his music plays on my computer. Having just lost my mother-in-law to an aggressive cancer, and knowing how the end of the battle with this disease can be, my sincere condolences to his wife and family because I know how difficult it is to watch someone you love fade away. I pray they will find comfort in knowing he's no longer in pain, even though he will be missed. This is how we had to look at it when "mom" passed. He was too young and talented to lose. May you find peace in knowing how much he was loved by so many. You are in my prayers. ~ Karen Fore

From a forever fan that so enjoys Dan's music and enjoyed his performances from Peoria to Colorado to Minnesota. I'm so sad to hear. My heart goes out to Dan's wife and family. What a great man and musician. He shared and left us with so much!!! ~ David Kleine - Minneapolis, Minnesota

My Prayers and Condolences to Mr Dan Fogelberg's Family and Friends. The world has lost a good man with a good soul and a fine musician. RIP Mr Fogelberg. God Bless Your Family and Friends in this time of need.

I can't even know how to begin: Dearest Jean, I know we've never net, in person, but I'm sure you can feel my soul as well as the millions out there who, for decades, have lived their lives with the inspiration Dan provided, most especially, me. I feel kind of lost but will pickup a Martin, and play for him everyday, most namely, "Part of the Plan". You see, "Souvenirs" is like my bible and Dan gave me the path when I was lost in '74. God Bless you and many, many prayers for you in the coming days. Lots and lots of LOVE your way. ~ John Perry - Seattle, Washington

Like John and George, Dan was taking from us much too soon. Just know he will never be forgotten and the gift of his music lives within us always. ~ Denise Mantegna - Baltimore, Maryland

I was so saddened to hear the news - one of our classic greats has passed on - but will forever live on in our hearts and souls through his music. Dan was great songwriter and guitar player. His songs were always filled with such emotion and sensitivity. They truly filled me with emotion. He was a special musician and I will hold dearly the tunes he sang and shared with the world. God bless. ~ Susan Watson Woodard - Selma, NC

I am so sad to hear about the passing of Dan Fogelberg. I grew up loving him and his music. To his family and friends, you will all be in prayers. The music world has lost a great contributor. Rest in peace Mr. Fogelberg.

If your heart's desire as an artist was to be heard, understood and inspiring to this world, then your rest is certainly more sweet for having achieved this amazing goal in the hearts of millions. Bless you for the joy you sought that led you on your Journey Dan and love and healing to you at this time Jean. ~ Maite

So very sorry to hear of Dan's passing away this morning. He was such a remarkable talent and artist. His beautiful gift of music touched a whole generation and continues to do so. At Camp Cheley in Estes Park, Dan's songs are always part of the open-air chapel service - "Nether Lands", "Part of the Plan", and most special is "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler" which is played and sung at every closing ceremony in a darkened room lit only by candles and voices of campers singing at the top of their lungs "Let it Shine". His legacy will live on forever through his music and his family. ~ Andrea R. - Grand Rapids, MI

My heart is so sad at the passing of Dan Fogelberg. I will continue to listen to his great music as others will. He is not gone because he will live in the hearts of his family, friends, and fans forever. The radio has been playing his songs all morning and for that I am thankful. I listen to his CDs all the time and as the song plays on the radio now it makes me very sad that I will not get to hear any new music from him. I think what a great addition to heaven's choir that he will make. I will hear him sing again one day. Thank you Dan for being the great inspiration and artist that you were. Words can't express how much you were loved and appreciated. ~ Diane Presley

My heart breaks for you Jean and all I can say is thank you to Dan and his amazing impact that he had on my young life. His sensitivity in song gave me courage as a musician and allowed me to feel more comfortable in my own skin as a young man. His music and stories were so comforting to me in lonelier times that I still shed a tear occasionally when I'm somewhere and I hear his songs playing in the background. They remind me of where I came from and how much I've gained in my life as I write this today. Of course I never knew you, Dan Fogelberg, but I celebrate your life and thank you for touching mine quite deeply. We shall meet someday. ~ Michael

I knew Dan as a child when he and my brother, Jack, were in Boy Scouts together, at Glen Oak School and Woodruff High School. When he ran around with my brother, they were pretty wild together. We had some photos of Dan taken at our house when he was in the Scouts, but Jack took the pictures from the family album to show to people when Dan became famous. Who knows what happened to the photos after that. I remember walking home with Dan one time in high school. As we were walking up Spring Street hill, he pulled out some drawings he had done. Not everyone knows that his talents also included drawing and, I'm sure, other areas of art. I still remember one particular drawing he showed me of the inside of Dracula's castle. I loved it! I wish I could say that Dan was a friend, but at best, he was an acquaintance for a short period in my life. My dad was his family's letter carrier, and he would see Dan once in a while when he was home from Colorado, or touring. I loved his music, and it makes me cry when I listen to his songs because he really knew how to touch the listener's soul. Now I'll cry because he's gone. It's so wonderful to be able to leave beautiful music and lyrics for people to enjoy after you've gone. Obviously, I'm not a writer, but I hope what I've written lets you know how much and how long Dan's presence in the world touched me. Sincere condolences. ~ Karl Augspurger

I met Dan at the high point of his success at his home in the mountains outside Netherland. He was down to earth, passionate, full of creative energy, a real gentleman, a gentle soul, who will be sorely missed and is a shining example of the best of that era as well as this one. My condolences to his family and friends. From an old Boulder soul, who also had the great privilege of living in those mountains at that special time in life, when creative energy flowed like a great river. ~ Sharon Proffit

To the memory of DF...your music infused the soundtrack of my youth...first love, first lust, heartbreak and happiness. You were among the greatest songwriter/performers of my generation. As I do, you valued melody, feeling and richness of experience in music. The quality and sincerity of your voice stands in stark contrast to what is offered up today as popular music. For that I thank you deeply. A part of me is gone forever as of Sunday, December 16. But, your memory and music will live in me for the rest of my life. You can now rest in peace.
~ Thomas Hardey

It is very sad to hear of Dan's passing. I began listening to Dan in the early 70's and was lucky enough to be spending time around Nederland when he would pop in to the Pioneer Inn. I got to meet Dan while he was having his house built. I would talk to Dan when he came to ride our horses. His music touched me at an early age and still touches me at age 50. My wife and I love his music....I will always remember him sitting in the kitchen with blue jeans, a ripped t-shirt, scruffy beard and an old straw hat. May God hold you in the palm of his hand.....you are "Home Free" now. ~ Kelly Ambrose - Berea, Ky

Sail on Dan, You have truly given me a gift, I can never repay. Your music has lifted me up in bad times and given me joy in good times. May you have calm winds and following seas-Sail on. ~ Mike Davis - Florida

Thanks so much to Dan for his 1974 song "Better Change" which played a significant part in turning my life around back in 1977. You will be missed Dan. ~ Steve Carmean - Delaware, Ohio

What a gifted person! Your music will certainly live on forever and ever. My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and friends, especially your wife Jean. I was very fortunate to have been able to hear your beautiful voice and see you in person at Chastain Park in Atlanta, Georgia several times. Your songs have always been some of my favorites. You are an inspiration to all those future song writers and musicians. Rest in peace.

I feel affected by news of Dan's passing the same way I did when John Lennon died. His music was a part of me. I saw him in concert - solo or with bands - at least a dozen times. I've made sure that Don Fogelberg's music (usually "Nether Lands") was the first played in every house I've lived in - my way of bringing good luck the home. Thanks for your lasting contribution, you'll be missed!

We are so sorry to hear about Dan's passing. We have loved and enjoyed his music throughout our lives!! Thousands of prayers go out to you and your family as Dan I know is playing and singing beautiful music in heaven!! With much love ~ Carol and Donna

Dan, you and your music literally led me to find my Colorado dream, and you and your beautiful music have always been a part of my wonderful life here. They still tell stories of you in Nederland, Colorado, and I'm sure that town is grieving today. I feel I have lost a part of me, as well as my heart. God Bless You. ~ JC Leacock - Crested Butte, Colorado

Dan has been a part of my life since I was 17 and listening to "Nether Lands". I've introduced my children to his music as well and now he is a part of their lives. We are sadden to have lost someone we felt close to and offer our condolences to his wife Jean and to Dan's family and friends. The world will not be the same without him. ~ Karen Weick and Family - Monroeville, N.J.

I was so very sorry to hear of his passing. I grew up with Dan Fogelberg. I lived through the 70's and adored him emotionally, physically, spiritually and all of the words that came out of his mouth. I bought every album, song, download I could get my hands on. This is a great loss to his fans and to his beloved wife. My prayers are with his family at this very difficult time. ~ Carol Clarke

I was so saddened to hear about Dan's passing. My sorrow is tempered by the knowledge that he leaves a legacy that few of us will: he touched millions with his incredible gift of music and through that gift he will live on forever. I will always remember him when I hear his songs. My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and his family. ~ Mary

Not too many things or people have inspired me as much as Dan and his music. He will be sorely missed but always remembered. Goodbye Dan and thanks.

Aloha... I am deeply saddened by the news of Dan's passing. I just got the email/article this morning from my sister-in-law who's husband has also been diagnosed with prostate cancer...he is 56. I send warm, loving thoughts and condolences to all of you that are dealing with such a huge loss. I grew up in a musical family and was a professional entertainer for over 25 years. The first time I heard "Leader Of The Band" I knew I had to learn it and sing it to my father. I could barely get through the song the first time I sang it to him and it will always be one of those tunes that will make me cry every time I hear it. My father (who passed away 3 years ago at the age of 92) and mother were also entertainers back in the 30's and my brother, sister and I grew up in a totally different environment than most kids. Our lives were full of music, love and laughter and we often performed together. Please know that Dan and his music are loved by many, many people and he is one of those timeless musicians whose music will continue to touch so very many lives. He touched mine. May God's love and grace be with all of you during this difficult and sad time, and may each tear that is falling right now be a tribute to his wonderful gift. Thank you, Dan for all the beauty and love you gave to the world through your music. With much love and Aloha. ~ Paula Nurse
