It was with great sadness that we heard the news. We "grew up" with the
beautiful music and lyrics of Dan Fogelberg and those memories will live on for
us and of countless others. We would like to express our deepest sympathy
and condolences to his family and friends who will miss the not only the music,
but Dan as well. We plan to make a donation in his memory to the prostate
cancer foundation. We will miss him as well. ~ Lisa Schwartz MD/ Mitchell

God as taken from us one of the most gifted songwriters and performers
who
ever picked up a guitar. He takes his rightful seat as "The Leader of the
Band" in Rock n Roll Heaven. The music industry has lost one its
classiest and most inspiring artists. Rest peacefully Dan knowing that you have
touched so many of us so deeply through your music. ~ Rocky Zotto, Southbury, CT
Thank you Dan for all the great music! ~

Very sorry to hear about Dan's passing. Thinking of him brings back
many fond memories of my childhood. Grew up playing in garage bands; we
played some of Dan's songs such as "As The Raven Flies", "The River",
and "Part Of The Plan." He will be missed, but not forgotten. ~
Ralph J. Gabric
Many hearts are broken today. I for one am very sad at the loss of my
all time favorite singer for the last 30 years. I think to be a fan of
Dan Fogelberg is to be so blessed with the most beautiful and powerful
lyrics and music ever heard. I fell in love with his music for the
first time back in the 70's sitting on my parents front porch and
listening to his music from my best friend's parents stereo blasting it
on a summer day. His music has been a very special part of me and
husband's lives. We play his music everywhere we are. We send our love
and prayers to his family and friends and always know his music will
live on. Thank-you for letting his loving fans be a part of this time in
being able to express our sorrow and thanks for all he has meant to us. ~
Jan and Chuck Levesque
Dan was such a talented songwriter and artist. His beautiful music carried us
through the tough times. He is now with "The Leader of the Band" in Heaven. No more pain or suffering; just JOYFUL MUSIC. My condolences to his wife, Jean, and his family and friends. Godspeed, my Friend. ~

You are a Living Legacy, your music lives on, and we will miss you deeply. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. There is a special place in heaven for you. ~

I host a 'Jazz Radio' show each and every Monday Morning on WRTC, 89.3 FM,
Trinity College from 6a-9a. I have been hosting it for 14 years now. I am
also a musician and was a member of a band here in Hartford in the 70's and
80's that performed a few Fogelberg songs. This morning I asked my audience
to indulge me as I played a few songs from two of my favorite DF discs. I
started with 'Part of the Plan' went to Home Free for a few and ended with
'Place In the World For A Gambler.'
During the set, the phone rang off the hook with callers expressing the
shock and surprise at the news. The music brought me back to a time when
life was more simple and innocent. For all of us who had the pleasure of
seeing Dan 'LIVE', he never disappointed -never! May he rest in peace. His
music that touched so many of us will live on forever. ~

Dearest Jean (and Dan's extended family),
We just wanted to send hugs and prayers to you at this desolate time in your lives. All of us out here feel like we knew this man and we are devastated by his passing. I cannot even imagine what you, his real family must be going through and what you have been dealing with the past few years. To actually know and love a man whose music touched millions must be amazing. To receive notes from people you don't know must be really surreal in a way but know this comes from all of our hearts. May you find comfort in your memories and know that you will all be reunited again someday. I know I have never sent a random e-mail to people I don't know but I was compelled to do this. His music told me about the kind of man he was or I would never be writing this. God Bless you all, stay close and warm and honor his memory. ~ Don, Dee, Joey and Carly Herchuk,

What a great singer and music man that will be forever in my heart!! My dad
is 90 yrs old now and I just love the song "Leader of the Band". I cry every
time I hear it. Such great talent will be dearly missed. I loved all of Dan's music. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his beloved family during
this sad time of great loss. RIP Dan. ~ MAR
To Dan's Wife & Family:
I obviously did not know the man personally, which is to say we had never met, but his music has been a "soundtrack" to my life in an indirect way. My sister had an 8-track of his "Nether Lands" album way back in 1977-78 and even as 7 or 8 year old I fell completely in love with its title track and the rest of the album. Today, I have a 2 1/2 year old boy and I play him that very same song in hopes that he will react the same to it as I did. "Same Old Lang Syne" which is more prominent at this time of year (at least on the radio) could also be considered a soundtrack to a time some years ago where that song literally came to life in my life when a chance meeting with a lost relationship on Christmas eve in a supermarket brought us together as friends again and gave us both "closure" on a relationship that suffered from 2 immature people who thought they were smarter than they actually were (as 22 year olds sometimes do). "Leader Of the Band" was a song I had sent to my Dad for his 75th birthday a couple of years back because it encapsulated my feelings for him and we know how difficult it can be telling loved ones how much we love them and how much they have shaped our lives. He had never heard the song before but did enjoy it.
I hope that you all know that Dan was given a precious gift and was able to change people's lives with it. I am now 38 and still enjoy listening to his music on long drives (part of my job is being on the road) and those above mentioned songs are always in my "mental jukebox" and not far from my thoughts. A good song is timeless as is a good artist. Dan I think will be remembered for the honesty and purity in his music. I will certainly keep you all and him in my thoughts and hope that whatever awaits us after leaving this earth will find Dan happy, healthy and playing an acoustic guitar.
Sincerely ~

Berwick, ME
This morning, while driving my son to work, my iPod randomly played "Heart Hotels" (out of over 11,000 possible tunes). And then I looked at
the news at work and was surprised to learn of Dan's passing. Somehow,
this seemed a modern version of one of his many great story songs. He
was an amazing soul. ~ Tony Bentivegna
My family and I would like to express our deepest condolences in the
passing of Dan. He was very courageous and put up a good fight. He is
a winner! ~

Dan's father was my band leader when I was in High School. I owe him a lot
and have followed Dan's career from afar. My thoughts and prayers are with
Dan's family during this delicate time. ~

My heart has lost a good friend. Dan, you soothed the walk down the
road of my life. I am so sorry that we all have lost you. Your music
will live on, and your soul is now soaring and at peace. Thank you so
much for the smiles. Rest well, my song friend. You will always play
through my heart and soul. ~

I am only 36, but have been touched my Dan's music since I was a
little
girl. I have so many memories tied to each of his songs. They have
inspired me, comforted me, and relaxed me. I am so saddened by his
passing. I pray for his wife, Jean. I saw Dan in concert 8 times
throughout the years. I cannot believe that I will never be able to do
so again. His music has touched my life so profoundly. You rarely see
individuals as talented as he! I am sure he is in awe looking down upon
us and seeing how vast his impact is. Thank you, DAN, for all you gave
to all of us! ~

May God bless your family because He sure blessed us with the music of Dan.
I have seen his performances many times and it was always such a wonderful
experience. The music never got old and was so unique. What a privilege to have
been a part of the Dan Fogelberg Experience. We'll miss Dan and the music,
but it is all Part Of The Plan!

Love your music and your in a better place . Your songs are timeless as will be your memories.
I was so very sorry to hear about Dan's passing yesterday. I can honestly say that his music has made my life richer and more meaningful. God truly blessed him with a huge amount of talent, both in his lyric-writing abilities and his musical genius. I still can't believe how many instruments he played! To this day, I can listen to his songs and still hear something I hadn't heard before. Many times I have had an "A-HA!" moment where I say to myself "So THAT'S what he meant in that line!" I saw him in concert several times, and I loved the way he connected with his audiences. Even in a 15,000-seat arena, I still felt as if I was in his living room with just a few friends, enjoying a performance put on only for us.
Although I did not know Dan personally, I got the impression that he was a kind, loving soul who was a loyal friend and loving husband. I had the chance to meet Jim Wilson, one of Dan's colleagues, a few years ago when he played a piano concert at my church. When he said he knew Dan Fogelberg, I lit up and asked Jim all about him. He said Dan was a great guy, and even though multi-talented, was still humble. I believe that was true.
Once again, my heartfelt condolences go out to Dan's family and friends. I will be sad knowing that I won't be hearing any new music from him, but you can be sure that I will listen to his CD's with a new perspective, an even greater appreciation of his talent, and give thanks that he shared that talent so generously with the world. Sincerely ~ Gerard Schwerdt,North Hollywood, California
God bless the Fogelberg family as we remember "Same Old Lang Syne" and Dan's
great gift for music that will always be a part of our lives. Thank you for
sharing your music with us through the years. Heaven's songs are a little more
lifted with Dan's presence there today.
I sang "Leader of the Band" to my father during the last seconds of his life. I
am forever grateful to Dan and his song for allowing me to comfort and pay
tribute to my father. Jean, may you find peace and comfort in knowing that Dan is now singing in paradise!
Unaware of Dan's illness, I am shocked to learn of Dan's passing. Always
loved Dan's music. A gentle soul and songwriter whose words will resonate
in our lives forever.
Thank you, Dan and God Bless You ~
Dave and Cindy, Plainfield, Illinois

I'm saddened by the pasting of a great singer and songwriter.
I play keyboard and one song that always stirs my emotions
is "Longer". I will continue to play this song and others that Dan has
written. Beautiful music is to be shared and enjoyed by all.
You will be missed, but never forgotten as long as I play your music.
Good Bye Dan, and Thank you! ~

Last night (12/16/2007) in passing, the news anchor reported the passing of Dan. I was in shock. Dan's early music defined my teenage years, and helped me get through a number of emotional times in my life. I pulled away sometime after Exiles, but Dan's music has been a staple on my MP3 player for years. I am thankful for his talents, his passion, and for his music. May God find a special place for you, and may God watch over your family. ~Tracy
God needed a songwriter and singer in heaven. He got the best. My thoughts and prayers are with you Jean. Dan is in the best place of all. May he rest in peace. ~ Mark Taylor, Long Beach Mississippi
Dan was our generation's Thoreau, our Sandburg, our Dylan. His words
shared the stage equally with his music. His songs opened the door for
us to take an introspective examination of our lives. When the snow
softly falls, or a star shoots across the sky, I will think of Dan. ~
Dave Brennan, Minnesota
Dan's songs touched my heart, especially "Leader of the Band"
. Jean, may you have peace in
your sorrow. My thoughts and prayers are with you! ~ Maria Gifford - Pocatello, Idaho
Hello to all,
My sincere sympathies on the passing of Dan Fogelberg early this morning.
What a terrible loss of such a vibrant spirit that brought such beauty to
the world. It saddens me each time someone of such talent and honesty leaves
us - we're the poorer for it. So much of the development of my love life as
a young adult was formulated through the gorgeous songs he played. They
still play in my head all the time and I always wished I could have heard
him LIVE. When I hear the songs on the radio, no matter what is happening,
there's no way I can get through a whole song without my voice cracking or
tears coming to my eyes, because they evoke such beautiful messages and
memories. That is truly the mark of a Legend. When I hear "Same Old Lang
Syne"
this winter season, I know this time those tears will be shared by ones
mourning Dan's passing. What a miracle he brought us - and I hope his
memory lives with you forever. ~
Jamie Gripich, Victoria, BC,

I am deeply sorrowed to hear of Dan's death. My love and support go to his family and friends. The world has lost a
great human and artist. I am 55 yrs old, and this news really
hits hard. He was so young and so brilliant. May GOD bless you,and keep you strong in your time of grief.
It's really hard to type this, what with the tears hitting the keyboard and all,
but I just wanted to say; like so many of Dan's fans...his music touched my
life.
His dad was the leader of the band...and then Dan became the leader of the band. His spirit will always be with us. I'll see ya up there someday, just have some new strings on that Martin for me!
~ Vic
It is truly a sad day. I started playing guitar because of him. I will never
play like that. He did things with an acoustic guitar that most can't. So
very glad I had the pleasure of seeing Dan perform over the years. My fondest
memory was after seeing him at a place called Waterloo Village here in NJ. It
was under a very large beer tent (what a show) his limo drove past us as we
were walking to our cars he stopped the car and rolled down the window and
thanked us for coming. There were only about 12 of us there but it was a day I
will never forget. He played unplugged before anyone one else thought of it.
Love Ya Dan. God bless you and the loved ones you left behind. ~
Ted Spino
Now the pain has gone, but the legend lives on, for You are the leader of the
band!
Rest In Peace Dan! You were a great source of inspiration in life and your
music will live on forever! That what true greatness is! Thank you for your
kindness for your fellow man and love and blessings to your family at this time of
sorrow. ~
Chris Burden
To the friends & Family of Dan Fogelberg,
I was heartbroken to hear of Dan's passing. His music has touched my
life many times, in many ways. One of his songs was my senior class
song at high school graduation, his music comforted me when my mother
passed away, and his Exiles album during my divorce was astonishing.
Please know that his music & words will always live on.God Bless.
Jean, Dan's music was my comfort music when I first moved away from
home. It was very soothing when loneliness would try to take over. I
hope his music will continue to comfort and soothe all those who have
been touched by his beautiful music and voice. God bless you and your
family. ~
Suzanne - San Antonio, Tx
Thank you for the memories and your spirit. Your music lives on..... ~
Paul - Flagstaff, AZ
I love his music. It has been with me for thirty years. Since I heard the
news last night I have felt such a loss. To feel this upset about a man I
never met is surprising, yet it feels like he was a member of my family.
That is a testament to how deeply his music touched me. Good times and bad.
Sorry for your loss Jean.
Dan Fogelberg was, and still is, my musical hero. He meant a lot to me as
my twin and I studied music education at N.I.U. in the 70s. We sat in the
pouring rain in the 80s to listen to him perform live at Ravinia. We
listened to his tender, melancholy "Same Old Lang Syne" every New Year's Eve. We
felt his love for his father and the musical gift they shared in "Leader of
the Band." We loved the title to his album "Twin Sons of Different Mothers" as well as all the great, great songs. His
lyrics spoke to us - maybe we are a little more melancholic in our
orientation than he was.
His life and his music touched us deeply and we will continue to listen and
to miss this musical treasure of our times. ~
James and Laurel Kaiser
Dan had a unique talent for tapping into the deep emotions that we all feel. His concerts felt more like intimate performances in the living room (especially at Red Rocks). His music inspired me as I made life choices. Like all of his fans, I'm truly grateful that he chose to share his talent. I hope he knows how inspirational he has been to us all. Jean, and family - prayers and positive thoughts will continue on your behalf. Despite my sorrow for the emptiness that you must now feel - that we all feel - I'm comforted by the fact that Dan is still with us...always will be. ~ Kerry in Colorado
I have been a Dan Fogelberg fan since 1979. I bought "Phoenix" and
literally wore out the album. When he released "The Innocent Age" I was
amazed at the richness of the music and lyrics. Those songs have stood
the test of time and are truly classics. When my wife and I married in
1982, "Longer" was our wedding song. Over the years, I continued to
listen to Dan's music and got to see him twice in concert. My 18 year
old son is now a huge fan as well - no more albums but plenty of Dan's
music on his iPod. I was so sad when I learned that Dan had been
diagnosed with cancer. I lost my dad and my mother-in-law to this
horrible disease.
My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary on Saturday night. The
musician we had at our party played "Longer" for us. I was deeply
saddened when I heard that Dan had passed away the next morning. I hope
he knew how much his music meant to me and his many loyal fans - his
gift was amazing and he shared it with all of us.
I never met Dan Fogelberg in person but I pass on my deepest condolences
to his wife and family. Losing a loved one is a difficult event for
anyone. I hope the knowledge that Dan's music touched so many lives and
that he is now at peace helps ease the pain of your loss. I have always
believed that the true measure of a person is in how much they loved and
how much they were loved in return - Dan surely had plenty of both. God
bless. ~
Jeff Hyson,
Oviedo, FL
Rest easy old friend. You never knew me but I spent countless hours
alone with you, shared you with my wife and children, and carry your
words and music in my heart to this day. I saw you live four times, each
better than the last. My daughter was living in Nashville and invited me
to come and see you at the Ryman. She called me this morning to give me
the news of your passing. You meant that much to us in our sharing of
you. Hope to sit and listen to you on the other side someday. ~
Michael Stair
My prayers go out to his family. I am going through the same issue in my life. God Bless you Dan.
I was very sad to hear the news last night of Dan's passing. His
music was a large part of my late teens and early 20's. "Longer"
was
played at my first wedding and I think about those days every time I
hear it now on the radio. His early albums were a bit slow for my
tastes back in those days, but I liked them just the same. Enough that
several are in my collection. They were my alone time albums and filled
those days when I was deep in thought about life's mysteries. What the
hell did I know, I was just a kid. But the music did help. My prayers
go out to Dan and the family. Few men make a mark on the world and
fewer on others soul. Dan was that kind of artist. Developer of souls
without being religious. God bless!
My deepest sympathy and condolences go to Dan's wife Jean and all his
family and friend at this time. There are no words that can express the
sadness I feel for this loss. So many times Dan guided me through some
very rough waters and lifted my spirit and soul so I could move on with
his passionate songwriter and voice. He has inspired me since the 70's
and will continue to do so for the rest of my days. My thoughts and
prayers are with all those who mourn his passing.
Love to all ~
Karen
It's a sad day in the world of music and the world as a whole. It's sad
that no more poetry and music will come from that talented brain and
heart... and that we his fans will have to be content with listening
over and over to what he created while he was here. To his family, the
loss is much more keen.... you didn't just adore his music, you loved
the man. My heart goes out to you. Our loss seems minimal in comparison.
I have been a HUGE Dan Fogelberg fan since I was a young child when "Run for the
Roses" was on my father's Oldsmobile tape and turned into our car trip song for
years. I am heartbroken that he is no longer with us and he will forever be in
my memory!! ~
Lori Fisher
I offer my prayers to you in this time of loss. Dan was a huge part of my growing
up and just last night my wife and I were listening to "Same Old Lang Syne." His
voice, penmanship, and heart were truly a class apart. God will touch you and
keep you safe, He needed a new choir member in Heaven.
I will keep you in my prayers and let the ACS know when I do Relay's for Life this coming summer. I never met Dan, but through his music he helped me forge my own musical career. ~
Roger Bishop
I first saw Dan Fogelberg in January '76. I was nineteen and had been fired from my first "real" job that day. The concert was wonderful and I was lucky enough to meet him after the concert. He was very gracious to a star-struck teenager. Over the years I was able to attend concerts at several venues, including a benefit for Gary Hart at Red Rocks.
He and The Eagles are the embodiment of my youth.
His songs were beautiful. He will be greatly missed. My sympathies go out to his family
I was saddened to hear the news of his passing. I truly loved his music and
continue to listen to it. I was first attracted it him back in the 70's,
because of his album cover! I was also able to see him in concert at Purdue
University around that same time. A concert I'll never forget. He came out
alone and sat at the piano and said: "If you came to listen to Rock N Roll,
you're in the wrong place" The crowd went wild, and it was one of my favorite
concerts I ever attended. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and
friends. He was truly a talent, and will be missed by many.
To the family of Dan. You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. The loss of this very talented and special person is felt here in a small town in Indiana. May his music continue to bless all of those who I loved him for years and those who hear his songs for the very first time. Heaven has a new "leader of the band." ~ J.L.M. from Indiana
Dan's music gave me hope on many days I felt alone. I am so sorry he is gone but his spirit lives forever. ~ Lori
We wax poetic in the face of grief.
Any attempts to understand the why are overshadowed by tears of pure emotion.
Concern for those most intimate with him is given.
Love reaching across the universe for those most impacted by his art is shared.
The individual mourns.
With deepest sympathy for the physical loss of someone cherished.
With deepest gratitude for the continued legacy of his work on earth. ~

To Jean, blessings and thoughts to you at this time. Your man was a genius
and his legacy will live on forever. I was a huge fan forever. I was a teen
at the time he began and his music went with me wherever I went!! Till this
day I stop what I am doing and soak up the sound, words, and presence of his
songs wherever I hear them. I am blessed to have been touched by his music. ~ Linda
Dan has inspired my life and my music more than any other individual artist
(other than my father, my personal "leader of the band"). He will be forever missed. What a tragic loss for so many, many people. My love and prayers are with Jean and his family. Whenever I pick up my guitar I reflect on his powerful lyrics: "He respects me when I work but He so loves me when I sing." With much love ~ Deb Clark
I was truly saddened to hear of Dan's passing. Since hearing of his illness in 2004, I have periodically checked the website for updates. Just this past Saturday, my mind started singing one of his songs and I thought I'll check tomorrow. Needless to say, when I checked on Sunday, my heart sank.
I started listening to Dan's music years ago in high school. Home Free, Souvenirs, Captured Angel - truly great albums. Listening to his words helped me through difficult times. His words were always hauntingly beautiful, eloquent and pure. I wish I would have had the chance to tell him personally how truly talented he is and to thank him for the pleasure and peace he gave to me through music.
My deepest sympathy to Jean. I know your heart is breaking but take comfort that Dan will always be with you. True Love never dies. God bless you and Dan.
With deepest regrets ~
Nancy
It's when I find out about these things that makes me saddest. I have revered Fogelberg's
music for many years. I did not know he was ill. Now it's too late to let him know how
important he was to me. Dan, your music was (and will always be) influential to me. I
will never forget!
Wow. I had just finished listening to "Same Old Lang Syne" on the radio when
my co-worker told me that Dan had passed. I just love "Same Old Lang Syne"
and "Leader of the Band". I purchased a greatest hits album of Dan's around
this time last year just so I could play "Same Old Lang Syne" over and over
again. I have my 9 year old, 5 year old, and 4 year old singing that song around
the holidays. Dan's music is truly an inspiration that will live on. My
deepest sympathy goes out to his wife Jean and the rest of his family and friends. ~

Dear Jean,
I cannot remember ever feeling so grieved at the loss of an artist as I have felt about the passing of Dan. His music has been a constant in my life - we played many songs from Twin Sons at our wedding in 1979. I had just introduced my daughter to some of those lyrics ("Since You've Asked") for her wedding. I played Innocent Age for several years every time I drove between my sister's home in Kansas and mine in Nebraska. Those songs still make me cry at the memory of having to leave my sister after a visit.
Sunday morning, while I was running, three songs of Dan's popped up in a row on my iPod and I wondered if the Universe was trying to send me a message about Dan. I was so sad to discover I was right last night.
Jean, I wish you strength. We have all lost a remarkable man and we are sad - for ourselves and you. We will remember him fondly and his music will always be with us. ~

Thank You Dan .....for more than you know. ~ Jim Botelho
Dan's music in the 80's was the sound track to my days. I cannot thank him enough for the smiles, grins and tears his music brought to my life.
My best wishes to his wife. ~

My husband introduced me to Dan Fogelberg's music when we married in 1977.
He had the pleasure of seeing him play in a small club in Louisville Ky, where he was working while going to school.
We moved to Houston Tx after we got married and had the pleasure of seeing him in concert with Tim Weisberg.
His music has given me solace and peace through the hard times of our marriage and helped me find peace when my parents died.
His music still helps me through the hard times giving me peace and solace and generally brightens the day proving to me that somewhere out there is a cloud with a silver lining with my name on it.
I have and still do cherish his music and the memories that it evokes when I listen to it.
He is in God's hands now and is writing and singing with the angels in Heaven.
My thoughts and prayers go to his family and friends.
Maybe someday I will meet him in Heaven. ~
Sis Everette and family
Mere words cannot express the sadness in my heart! My tears saturate the
keyboard as I write! The music industry has truly lost one of the greatest
singer/songwriter/musicians of this generation! Dan's music will live on,
and the memories of his concerts will be treasured in our minds and on DVD, but
the heart ache will last a long time! Dearest Jean and family, please know
that all of you are in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers as we all grieve the
passing of Dan! I pray the Lord will lift each one of you up and comfort
you in His loving arms as you mourn and grieve the death of your precious loved
one!
Dan - you will be truly missed!
In sympathy and sadness ~

I've probably sung of your songs as many times, or more, than you did over
the past 30 years. Rest in peace, Dan, and many thanks for the music that
helped me not hate my job as a professional lounge singer.
Our humble and sincere condolences to you, Jean at this time of great loss. Although
Dan's life was tragically shortened by illness, he made the lives of so many others
better through his authenticity and unmatched song writing and musicianship. He is now
living in a far better place, a "re-captured angel" who was allowed to live among us for
a time. Living on with him is my mother, Rose, who was also a big fan of his. Just
Saturday, I was compelled to share via e-mail to this "living legacy" web site the story of how Rose sent my wife and I our "twin sons of different mothers", from the Great
Beyond. We are certain of it, because she sent them both with her beautiful blue
eyes. These two human legends, Dan and Rose, were both musicians; but first and
foremost, shared souls of indescribable depth. We mourn with you Dan's passing. But we
thank God there is now incredible music in heaven. I will always treasure the music Dan
made, the way it made me feel, and the way it impacted the lives of my wife, Kathy and I,
who have been friends and soul mates for 25 years. "Be On Your Way, Dan", and thank you
for your time here on Earth. You touched us deeply!
Peace ~

As a disc jockey in the late seventies and early eighties I always was very happy to see Dan Fogelberg come up in the rotation. This coming Monday evening I will continue a personal Christmas tradition and listen to "Same Old Lang Syne". This year however with new meaning. My thanks to Dan Fogelberg for his music and memories and my thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. ~

Dan ~ You were an absolutely brilliant singer and songwriter.
Your songs have brought me much happiness. I am very grateful for the wonderful
gift you shared with your fans and supporters around the
world. ~ Larry Hagan in Tulsa, Oklahoma
To Jean and the Fogelberg family you have my sincerest condolences.
Though Dan's life here on earth was much too short may you be comforted
by knowing that Dan was truly one in a billion or billions. Never have I
nor so many of his fans been inspired, captivated, refreshed, and been
touched in the heart by one artist. Dan was truly a gift for the ages. I
did not listen to his music a lot until my early 30's (49 now) but since
then he has by far been my most listened to artist. He continues to
inspire and touch our hearts years after his music was written. I truly
believe I am a better person for knowing Dan through his music. My 18
year old daughter is as enamored with his words and music as I am. There
are few persons, artist or not, that can have that effect from
generation to generation. He will be very much missed by you as well as
his many fans but his music is such that it will continue to live on
even long after we too are gone. Rest in Peace Dan and thank you, thank
you, thank you, for being part of our lives. ~ D.U. - A
fellow Illinois son.
Jean and Family, I hope you get a chance to read all of these messages from mostly
strangers. We all were touched by the spirit of the songs. He made a
difference and this says a lot. Good bless you and may you find peace
in his passing and celebrate his life. ~

Dan encouraged us all with songs of love, longing and life. From about 1980 on, we never missed a Houston concert. He will be missed by the millions he touched, certainly, but the music he left us is an enduring legacy. Our prayers are with him, Jean and all the people Dan called friends and family. ~

I did not know that Dan was ill and I am shocked and heartbroken upon
hearing of his passing. I grew up with Dan's music. My condolences to
his wife and his family and friends. ~

He will always be in our heart!
Rest in Peace, you have opened yourself up to all the world and we are
better for it. Your gift will continue to give and inspire ~ Dave
Nether Lands left me speechless as a teenager in 1977. I am once again
speechless as I hear of Dan's passing. I only saw him play once (1979
Oxford, Ohio) but it was one the finest shows I ever saw. Just Dan, a piano,
and a couple of guitars. The world has lost a great one. ~

His music meant so much. I was terribly saddened to hear of his passing. My
thoughts and prayers are with you.
I am so sad to hear this news. I was such a big fan in college during
the late 70's and early 80's. His music always touches my heart.
God Bless him and his wife. ~

Let the world know that Dan Fogelberg will remain a beacon of light. Through his music
and intensely meaningful and introspective lyrics he gave us a compass when there was
none; now to become his living legacy. The world is a much better place for Dan having
lived and shared amongst. May God unite and welcome Dan Fogelberg into his Choir of
Angels! Thank you Dan, you will be missed. ~
Joe Wills
God rest your soul, Dan Fogelberg. As usual, we don't know what we have until it's gone. I think the next time I see your cowboy painting, I shall cry. Thank you, Dan Fogelberg. Thank you.
Dan...we loved you so much. Thank you for all eternity for your
brilliance, kindness and wisdom.
I was shocked to hear of Dan's passing. I really thought he would beat this disease. My heartfelt condolences for his wife and family. ~

Why did Dan's music touch me so much? At a time in my life when I had no clue how to be
a sensitive straight male, here was this woman-loving, world-traveling, "ski bum" singing
sensitive lyrics that spoke to me about being both male and being aware. As I got older,
seeing Dan every year when he played a concert in the NW, I saw how he adapted to the
changes in his life, how he became more aware of his stage crew, how much he wanted to
sing songs that he no longer had the range for. I remember, in the last concert I saw on
the Pier in downtown Seattle, he had just come back from Paris and shared with us his
love of that city. In a concert just a few years before at the St Michelle winery, he
apologized because he had stayed on the slopes somewhere for an extra day and hadn't had
quite as much time to practice as he would have liked.
He was obviously so in love with life. That, along with his music was a priceless gift
to those of us who had the privilege of being with him in those all to brief musical
encounters. To Jean and all who he left behind; peace and love. And to Dan's spirit -
as you taught me:
... here is a sunrise to set on your sill.
The ghosts of the dawn moving near.
They pass through your sorrow and leave you quite still...
Sitting among souvenirs.

The world has lost one of its most beautiful men. My heart is broken for
Mrs. Fogelberg.
I just found out this morning that Dan had passed away.
I am from the Pittsburgh area and had Ch 4 news on and almost fell over when I heard the news. Especially, that he had died from cancer.
A dear friend of mine passed away from cancer back in the early 90's and Dan's music helped me through a really tough time.
I actually wasn't aware of how sick he was.
My deepest sympathy to his wife and family.
His music will always by a part of my life. ~
Debbie Ernst
Dan...Thanks for all the memories. Thanks for all the love you shared with us all. ~

All our thoughts and prayers are with the Fogelberg Family. He will be greatly
missed. He touched my life with his music since first hearing his albums while
at Iowa State University in 1976 and lead me to take up guitar and now my
daughter asks me to play "Old Tennessee" every chance she can and in this time of
Christmas, we play his Christmas album as we open gifts and share our family's
company. May God provide you strength and comfort in this time of sorrow. We are
blessed that he has left us so much, a gift we can never repay
him. ~
Jack R. Repplinger, Jr.
Hey Dan I heard of your death today and I cried. Losing you is like
losing a part of my past. I always wanted to meet you ,and I almost
did in Cohasset Ma. But was too shy to tell you that I have made love to
the women I have most cherished while listening to Nether Lands. I know
that may sound goofy but to me it was very important
especially for a man who has had trouble loving himself. On a happier
note my 2 ½ year old daughter now sings the "Power of Gold" with me in the
car. Dan, I will never forget you and all your lyrics and how they
moved me and brightened my life when things were not always good. ~ Billy

Dan's music helped me with the challenges of growing up in the 1970's.
As a young man, his music inspired me to learn guitar and play his music
even to this day. In fact last night, even though I was unaware of
Dan's passing, I played through several song books of his music.
Perhaps a sign, I don't know.
Thanks for your inspiring music, heartfelt and touching verse and
memories of your great concerts.
My prayers go out to the Fogelberg Family.
May You Rest In Peace ~

I was very sad to hear about Dan's passing today. I don't remember the
exact time I first heard Home Free, but it was either in 1973 or 1974 while
I was still in high school. From the opening strings and piano of "To The
Morning" on Home Free, I was immediately captivated by Dan's genius. I
learned some of Dan's songs as I learned to play guitar. "Same Old Lang Syne"
is still one of the most remarkable songs I've every heard. Thank you for
the gift of your music Dan. You are home free now. ~

Dearest family of Dan Fogelberg:
His music was a part of our lives. I have four sisters and Dan's "Leader of
the Band", was "our song" to our dad who never had any boys. Our Dad is a
musician too just like Dan's dad and the way Dan described each of the
children leaving, had a chilling similarity to our family. His descriptions
like "a thundering velvet hand" were so familiar to us. It was as if he
looked into our lives and personalized a song for us that we will all hold
dear to our hearts for the rest of our lives.
I will forever be indebted to Dan for this song and the legacy it leaves for
the five of us. I weep over the loss of his life and talent and especially
those who are closest to him such as his wife. I am praying for God's mercy
and comfort for you.
Prayerfully and gratefully yours ~
Theresa Matarazzo
What a sad day. Dan's music touched me and many of my friends in a way that few artists
have. His songs had a way of giving me insight into things that were happening my life
from the first time I heard "Home Free" through "Full Circle." Fortunately, we have that
music to cherish and remember him with. Jean, my deepest condolences to you. To us, he
was a talented artist, singer-songwriter, whose music meant a lot to our lives. I know to
you he was a whole lot more. ~ Don
I was very saddened to hear of Dan's passing. I love all of his music.

Wow, when I picked up the newspaper this morning and read this, I just could not believe it. It was just several days ago we were listening to the radio and a song of Dan's was on, and my husband & I were talking about how much we loved this music and then when on to discuss how it had been some time since we had seen or heard anything about him. Never in a million years would we have ever thought that we was so sick. The world has lost a giant of a man. Not just in music but in all he did. He will be so missed. I just feel like I have lost a member of my family. I just cannot begin to imagine what his death must mean to his wife and family. Just know that there are millions out there, just like me, who have been fans of Dan's for a long time and are so sad today. I will keep you all in my prayers. His music will live on forever. ~ Elaine in Ky.
You will be missed, immeasurably. I am thankful to have known you
through your music, and will continue to listen to it as long as I live
and teach my son about who you are... ~ Debbie
