To one of my all time favorite singers, may you rest in peace  and may your family find peace and comfort knowing you are no longer  suffering.  God Bless! ~ Lynn

God bless you, your music will live on. You and your family are in our prayers.

I was so sorry to hear of Dan's passing.  The world has lost a great  man.  You are in my thoughts and prayer. ~ Pam Curtis,  Charlotte,  NC

As I have lived my life so much of the music that I have listened to have influenced my thought and given me refuge and expression in times of need. I don't think any musician has touched me and given me the sense of honest feeling and true thought as Dan Fogelberg has through his music. It is a great gift to be able to connect with so many as he did through his music. I still listen to the song 'Nether Lands' and feel that hope and promise of pursuing your dreams just as when I heard it when I first bought the album. I pray that his wife and family can find comfort in the fact that his song continues, through his music and words. Bringing that hope, dreams of the future, feelings of love & longings for what really matters, for so many people. The light may seem dimmer in our lives but grows brighter in what lies ahead of us all with Dan's arrival.

I never got to see Dan in concert. I had a good friend Kent Erickson who just passed away about a year ago. He went to every concert he could go to with his wife Teri. Dan's music got me through a lot myself. I was told I have MS back in 1984. His music keeps me going to this day. Thanks Dan. Maybe some day we will meet and I could introduce you to my friend Kent. To his wife my prayers go out to you. ~ Scott Herbig, Roscoe Illinois

Dan - I want to thank you for the great music. I will listen forever. You are the leader of the band. ~ Charles

God bless, Dan.  Thank you for the beautiful sounds you left behind for us to cherish. God bless, Jean.  How wonderful that he found you in his life, and had you there to lovingly help send him on his peaceful journey Home. ~
Margaret - Ohio

God's Blessings on Dan's wife and Family, and heartfelt gratitude for his own "Living Legacy" to all he leaves behind.  May God bless you and keep you always, in the palm of his hand.~ The Kurtz-Simmler Family, Pennsylvania

Dear Family of Dan Fogelberg, I send my wishes of sympathy and peace for you at this time. I am grateful for Dan's music, it has comforted me for so many years. My ten year old really likes his music too. He is remembered fondly.... With Love ~ Suzanne, California

Dan. My early years are woven in the memories of your songs.   Love won and lost and the great laughter with some tears are the things that I remember.  All the great music you gave inspired me to look beyond what was right there and well just enjoy life.   Thank you Dan. All my hopes and prayers go out to your family.   You will be with them in their hearts and dreams as you will be in ours.  ~ Paul B.

I am so sorry to hear of Dan's passing! He looked like a real fine man. His music was great too. My deepest sympathy to his loved ones. May God bless and rest assured he is in good hands now, as he will not suffer  anymore. Sincerely ~ sue lawrence

Many years ago sitting in Madison NH as a child, I heard you sing.  Times were not good, and your voice was an instant comfort to me.  I remember hearing "Leader of the Band" and wishing I could love my Father as much.  I am now sitting in Maine, thinking of those lyrics, among many others, and realizing you are leaving such an amazing legacy.  You have made the most beautiful music.  Thank you for quietly being the soundtrack of my life.  Rest yourself now, and Bless your family.  ~ K Snowdon, Georgetown, ME

A piece of my heart went with you today. Thank you for the life changing words and music you gave to us. Rest in Peace my Friend! ~ Mary

I was saddened to hear today of the passing of Mr. Fogelberg.  Though my father was not a musician, but because I followed in his footsteps, I always felt especially touched whenever I heard "Leader of the Band".  My own uncle died of prostate cancer, and from his experience, I know how difficult these past years must have been for you all.  You have my prayers. Sincerely ~ A. L. Kennedy

I live in California and was watching the Channel 7,Eyewitness news when I heard about Dan passing away from Prostate Cancer. As a long time fan of Dan's music, I am so deeply saddened to hear this terrible news.  I had known about Dan having this disease but thought that it had been caught in time and that he would recover with the proper treatment.

I remember winning tickets on the radio to see Dan at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles in the early 1990's. I was so full of joy to be able to see him there.  The tickets were not for close seats, in fact they were way up high in the theater and quite a distance from the stage.  However, I brought binoculars with me and got to see Dan close up that way.  His voice sounded so beautiful in this outdoor arena and many of his songs brought tears to my eyes from his lyrics and such an incredible voice.  I want to extend my deepest sympathy to his wife, family, and friends.  Dan will also be missed by all his fans which are worldwide.  May you rest in peace Dan. ~ Linda, (a long time fan in California)

God rest your soul Dan Fogelberg. Your music was the theme of my wedding 27 years ago and I still have all your albums . I will always hold a place for you in my heart .  ~ James Allen Moore

My heart is broken by Dan's death today. He has been one of my favorite singers for 30 years. Hearing his name or his voice always brought back wonderful memories of some of the best times in my life.  The first song I heard him sing was "Nether Lands". I was 18 and was starting my own life after breaking away from years  of childhood abuse. It felt as if he had wrote this song for me and I always felt more encouraged and stronger everytime I heard him sing it. Much love to all the loved ones you've left behind and best wishes on the new journey upon which you have now embarked. Thanks for the wonderful memories and how you helped me. You were greatly loved and will be greatly missed... ~ Cindy Cater, Taylors,SC

Thank you for the music, the joy, the reflections, the courage. Thank you is not enough, but all we have.  Our thoughts and prayers are with your beloved Jean and family.

May you rest in peace, in fulfillment, in loving
May you run straight home in God's embrace
Into the freedom of wind and sunshine
We let you go
Into the dance of the stars and the planets
We let you go
Into the wind's breath and the hands of the star maker
We let you go
We love you, we miss you, we want you to be happy
Go safely, go dancing, go running home
(Helen Steiner Rice)

Wind to thy wings, Dan, wind to thy wings.  ~ Beverly McCartt, Winter Park, FL

My prayers to the Fogelberg family and friends. I wept when I learned of Dan's passing. "Same Old Lang Syne" has been a favorite of mine for oh-so-many years and I've sang along to it at least seven times to the radio over the last couple of weeks. God Bless You and thanks Dan for sharing your gift with us. ~ Tonya Rice

To Family and Friends of the fantastic Dan Fogelberg - He was a treasure, a great musician and lyricist. His melodies go deep inside and resonate throughout your memories. Thank you, Dan, for all that you gave us. May all who loved him, be warmed by his music.

National Public Radio (NPR) has an expression called "Drive-way Moments." That's when you hear a story and have to stay in your car in the driveway until it's over before you go in the house. Dan Fogelberg's "Same Old Lang Syne" has always been my driveway moment. Even if I'm driving, after all these years I have to pull the car over. There has never been a more powerful song. My prayers go out to his family and friends during this very difficult time. I hope there is some comfort in the fact that his music will live forever. ~ Mary Jo West, College Park, Ga.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thank you for all you gave us. ~ Steven.

To Dan's Family, I am so very saddened to hear about Dan's passing. Dan's music and lyrics touched so many hearts and minds of our generation. I have his "Greatest Hits" CD in my car, and listen to it on practically every trip I take, however mundane, because Dan was able to write about the most basic things and elevate them to something grand. We were all fortunate to travel life's journey with this remarkable talent, and our prayers and thoughts are with all of you who loved him personally. Remember that you are not alone, for Dan inspired so many, many more who admired him from afar. May his journey Home be filled with as much light and happiness as he gave us here in this earthly realm. Aloha, Dan! Love ~ lauri sudol & family

You will be missed greatly Mr. Fogelberg.   May God Bless You. My prayers go out to his family. ~ a fan

Blessings and safe passing, Dan.  I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your glorious music. To Dan's family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. ~ DQ

As "Same Old Lang Syne" comes on the radio this time of year, I tell my kids it used to make me cry when I heard it. Now, I will have another reason to think about the singer and the depths of the words. So sorry for your loss. ~
Molly O'Boyle, Reston, VA

When we got married 20-some years ago, we saw Dan (1st of many times) at the Valley Forge Music Fair in Phila, Pa.  It was a circular theater & the stage rotated.  We all roared when Dan said "wow---usually if the room spins it's something I did".  We saw Dan many times after that.  We are sad, the leader of the band has gone.  We never told him we loved him enough.  ~ deb & rich.

I am so deeply saddened to the news of the death of a truly beloved songwriter. I have been a fan of Dan Fogelberg's music for 30 years, and this rips at my soul to know he lost his battle of prostate cancer.   His music will live in my heart, as well as in his other admirers' heart forever.   My condolences to his wife and family as they grieve over their beloved husband, son and brother.  Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you on this sad day.  ~ Rose-Long Beach, CA

Dan Fogelberg affected my life from his first album and song, deeply, so many years ago. My heart and mind are trying to wrap around the news that  shook me to the core this evening. A candle, a prayer, a wish, and the knowing what Dan left us, and what he still has in store for us. What he gave me cannot be put into words. Most sincere blessings to Dan, his family and all the countless fans, friends and admirers around the world. ~ Anne Stevens, Merced, CA

I have such fond memories of listening to Dan's music, his amazing harmonies, insightful and romantic lyrics, graceful and beautiful melodies - and I am so saddened by the fact that I will never hear any more new music from him.  It is such a tragic loss for the world, as well as for his family. I wooed my first love with the music from Captured Angel, and created another fan.  As I moved through the ups and downs of the late 33 years, I would always get great comfort from listening to Dan's music - he had such a gift for making me see what was really important in the world.  A living light has been removed from our world, but at least we are all made richer by having known and listened to Dan's Music.  I know that the world has been made a better place by the musical gift that has been Dan Fogelberg. My deepest sympathy to Jean and all of Dan's family.  Thank you for sharing Dan with the world. ~ John Kurko

I cannot tell you how sorry we are for your loss. Dan has been like a member of our family. My brother who we lost to drunk driving 25 years ago introduced me to Dan's music, so know this, Dan already has a friend in heaven. His music has been the focus of many happy times.  My oldest daughter and I danced to Dan's music at her wedding for the Father  Daughter dance. I will pray for Dan and his family  tonight. ~ Terry  Poole

I am so sorry to hear that Dan has left us, but his words and music will live forever in my heart, in the hearts of my children now grown and continue on in the hearts of my grandchildren. Thank you, Jean, for sharing him with us.  ~ maureen in california

Oh, dear, Jean, I'm so sorry to hear that Dan left this world today. I send you my deepest condolences and psychic hugs for support.

I did not know until now. How sad for me. I was in the record business (retail)  when Dan first came on and got a chance to hear everything and was immediately mad a fan of the music. I will pray as I always do. God be with you.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Jean and Dan's family at the news of his passing early this morning. Although I'm not sure who wrote these memorial words, they seem very fitting given Dan's love of shore and sea, and I'd like to offer them here: "White wings swirling gently ride, the wind that takes you with the tide, to shores unknown, unseen by me, today you sail a different sea, with God to guide your spirit free." Your musical legacy will live on in our hearts forever and we'll miss you very much.~ Linda in Plymouth, Michigan

Dear Jean, Reading of Dan's passing made me cry for you. What a loss. Your partner and friend is gone. May you get strength from all who love you and your family. Dan's music will forever be a part of musical history with his heartfelt words and insight. My favorite song will always be "Same Old Lang Syne".  It is true story in my life. God bless you and thank you for sharing with us all. ~ Mallorie Parkinson

I first hear Dan's music when I went away to college in 1977. I knew right away it was something special. So many songs touched me deeply over the years. I had the privilege of seeing Dan play in a small Boston-area theater about 20 years ago. It was like an old friend was sitting in my living room, playing a few of his favorite songs. I think we all felt like that. I'm sorry Dan was not able to win his battle against cancer. Perhaps his message about being checked will reach a few more men because of his reaching out to them. Again, I am sorry for what you're all going through. ~  Donna

My husband and I are his same age...tomorrow my husband  is going to take Dan's advice and get the tests.  What a horrible way to  get a wake up call. I'd like to simply express my sorrow to Dan Fogelberg's family.   He was such a great poet ...feel like I grew up  listening to his wonderful voice.  ~ Catherine Duncan, Clearwater,  Florida

I am so sorry to hear this news. Dan's music was very special. I am crying as I write this. May he rest in peace.

Dan, your music was a part of my early adult years and touched every dimension of my life. I still to this day melt when I hear your music. I share losing you with your lovely wife Jean and your extended families. I will continue to play your music every day. I know you left a legacy for all of your fans. God has you now in his loving, safe arms. Be free. ~ Janet

Dear Dan, From your very first album in 1972 that I bought and listened to, your music changed my life.  I absolutely fell in love.  I have been in love ever since.  Your music deeply affected me with its poetry, grace and spiritual wisdom.  It was my favorite.  I saw you in concert once in Atlanta, GA in the late 70's.  I am such a fan, and I am going to be strong in now hearing you have passed because I don't believe in death.  I believe you are only changing form.  And that is how I think of it.  I want to thank you for all you gave us...your listeners.  We deeply appreciate it.  I will continue to listen to your music Dan and will continue to see you as living which I believe you are.  God Bless you, you great spiritual soul and good travels. ~  Jane Anne Harvey, a long and beloved fan

I would like to send my most sincere condolences to the Fogelberg family at this time of loss. I have been a big fan of Dan's for many years and one of my favorite albums has always been, "Innocent Age".  I've bought so many tapes of this particular album because I kept wearing it out.  I now have it on CD and it is still my favorite.  Even though Dan is no longer physically with us anymore, his spirit is eternal and the mission and his life will continue to touch so many lives for generations to come.  His music, passions and especially his devotion to his family and support for cancer research, particularly prostate cancer, will be a legacy that will continue for a long time.

In Dan's song, "Leader of the Band", a tribute to his father, we can also say this is a tribute to him as well.  Just as his father touched so many lives with his music, so has Dan's.  This is just my way of saying that Dan's music touched my life and still does.  He will never be forgotten.  May Heavenly Father bless you, Mrs. Fogelberg and your family.  In the name of Jesus Christ.  Amen. Sincerely ~ William Sillyman, Houston, MO

To Dan's family, I'm so sorry for your loss.  Dan will be remembered by all of us who loved him and his music.  His music will play forever in our hearts.Peace ~ Jennifer

You touched my heart, my friend....I will see you on the other side one day.   Bless you.

You touched so many people in your lifetime including myself. I can't begin to express my feelings over your passing.  My prayers and best wishes and thoughts go to your family and friends.

I just read the news that Dan Fogelberg passed away.  I am not a blogger, nor do I ever contact celebrities, but I felt this note had to be sent. I grew up in a home where fighting was a daily affair due to life with an alcoholic parent. My solace during those years was listening to music in my room. I cannot tell you how often, but many of those years, I listened to Fogelberg albums and 45's and sang along.  It always had such a moving affect on me.  His music carried me through some difficult times, and I just wanted you to know how much his talent and gift impacted my life. God bless you as you are grieving, my prayers are with you.... Most Sincerely ~ Becky Soske

I know I didn't know Dan personally but I've attended many of his concerts and have always loved his voice and music. My condolences to his wife, Jean. I am just so sad that we've all lost him. The world will be so quiet without him.

Dear Jean,    Wow, what a tremendous loss at such a young age.  I lost my hubby to Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma a few months ago at age 60. What a guy he was, and we loved and miss him so much. My deepest condolences to Dan's family and friends.  I've loved his music since I was a teenager.  The words in his songs were speaking right to me many times.  I hear his songs still over 2 decades later and I feel them reaching out to me.  He was a master songwriter and his voice was angelic.  He will be greatly missed.  I'm just a fan, yet I feel a huge loss.  God bless his family and friends.

I will always treasure your music.  You will be missed. ~April

A gentle passing for a kind man. He will be remembered not just for his music but his love of life. Here's hoping that his life will not be lost in vain that advances will be made in the treatment of prostate cancer in our lifetime. Fond farewell Dan - may you rest in peace

Dan, God Bless, and thank you. ~ Greg

This is one of the saddest days ever... may he rest in peace ~ monti smith

God bless Dan and Jean. They are great role models for anyone young and old. Him for his contribution to music world and for shining a light on a very deadly disease (but curable in the early stages) and her for showing that love can endure anything. My heart goes out to the family, he fought so hard, and he is better off and no longer in pain and tired. Celebrate his life, do not mourn his passing! ~ Sean C. Jones

I will never forget his music nor the warmth I felt when meeting him in  Lake Tahoe. His spirit will live on...

I am so very sorry to read of Dan's passing this morning.  About 3 -4 ? years ago my husband and I and some friends saw Dan at Starlight Theater in Kansas City, Missouri.  It was a great show.  I've been a big fan, always especially loved "Run for the Roses" and "Leader of the Band".  His music weaved through many parts of my life and I'm just sorry to learn his song has ended.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Dear Family of Dan Fogelberg - My deepest sympathy to you all.  At age 52, I've dealt with breast  cancer and its treatments twice in the past three years, but feel fortunate  that my prognosis is good.  I didn't realize Dan had been dealing with  prostate cancer, so his death came as a shock to me.  I've always loved his  beautiful voice and his heartfelt lyrics.  Rest in beautiful peace,  beautiful man. ~ Stephanie

I can't believe he's gone.  My thoughts and prayers are with his loving family at this time.

Words are inadequate to express how sad I am at the loss of Dan.  My deepest sympathies go out to Jean, their family and close friends.  Dan's music touched SO many people's lives and the holiday song is especially moving EVERY year during this time.  May Dan's spirit be in a peaceful place. Blessings to DF's family ~ A Caring Fan

Dan, I love you and hope that you have found peace and healing at last. ~ Vel

We've lost one of the best. Now Dan can rejoin his dad and share their music again. This is a terribly sad day.

May God comfort the family and may Dan rest in peace eternally! Respectfully ~ Ross Bennick

I am grief stricken to learn just now of Dan's death. The world has lost a great musician and gentle soul, heaven has gained an angelic voice for its choir. The leader of the band and his loving son have been reunited. In Dan's memory, let us all become voices for peace and for love. Jean, may the love of friends and family bring you comfort during this time of great sorrow. We will lift you up and ask that you be given strength to carry this burden. A new star in the heavens is shining down upon us all this night ~ oh, let it shine. Blessings and love to all ~ Sandi

I just read that Dan Fogelberg passed away.  My heart is saddened.  His songs were and still are a part of me that I have always and will continue to cherish.  My deepest sympathies go out this his family.  He will be missed.

Words can't express how deeply saddened I am at the loss of Dan Fogelberg, a true legend, a human who touched my (and many others') life deeply and at many junctures along the way.  I first heard Dan when he performed at my college, St. John's  University in Jamaica, NY back in 1978. I've been hooked ever since.  There's nothing like listening to The Innocent Age while driving down the California coastline (or simply doing work around the house... ) "Stolen Moments" and "The Reach" are two rarely-heard, but amazing  songs that get right to my heart every time.  Don't get me started on Souvenirs, Phoenix or Nether Lands...

This is truly a sad day for music, but the beauty of Dan Fogelberg  will live on in the hearts and lives of thousands of those he touched  with his lyrics and lush melodies.  I own every album on vinyl, cassette and almost all on CD. Time to bring them out and stop the Christmas  carols for a few days... my most sincere condolences to the Fogelberg  Family, especially Jean.  My love and thoughts will be with you for years to come.... ~ Elaine

Rest in Peace, Dan. Thank you for your contributions here on Earth ~ Joseph A.  Spadaro
