Dear Jean, please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of your husband
Dan. I have been a fan since 1980, when I was 20 and decided to use Dan's "Longer" as my wedding song. I know no words can ease your pain right now but please know
that I as well as countless others will keep you and your family in prayer and
thought. Sincerely ~ Anthony DeTomaso - N.C.
Dan,
You will live forever in my heart.
May the "Leader of the Band" rest in peace. ~
Tawnya L. Tucker - MT
I heard the news on the way to work this morning and it took my breath
away.
What a great loss the world has suffered with Dan being gone. The angels in
heaven will sound a little sweeter now. He will be dearly missed by all of
those of us who loved him from afar. ~
Jennie Wagner
Thank you, Jean, for sharing Dan with us all of these years. May he
rest in God's peace. "Blessed the traveler who journeys the length of the light." ~ Maureen
My sincere condolences to the family. Dan gave us all a gift, by singing from his heart; something few of us have the courage or ability to do. His music will live on forever. ~
Liz - New Zealand
Dear Jean, I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Thank you for taking and sharing the newly added photo of Dan on his web site. Blessings, Comfort and Peace to you. ~ Beverly
My mother has been a fan of Dan Fogelberg ever since his very first
album (which is still my favorite) and always wanted to meet him. Well,
we finally got the opportunity to make that happen. It was during his
Wild Places tour and the show was in Murfreesboro, Tn. I talked a
couple of women into giving us their backstage passes and we actually
got to meet him. Some of the other celebrities I've met have been very
rude and I was afraid that after all the years of admiration Dan would
also be a jerk and disappoint Mom; but our encounter with him was
fantastic. Dan couldn't have been nicer. He signed all kinds of
autographs and gave my Mom a big hug. I told him how much I enjoyed his
music and thanked him for everything he's done to warm our hearts all
these years.
Just yesterday I was shopping and heard "Same Old Lang Syne." I sang
along with every word (I know it by heart after all these years ) and as
always, it brought a tear to my eye.
It broke my heart to call Mom today and tell her the news. Dan was one
of the greatest, most heartfelt singer/songwriters I've ever heard and I
will miss him and his music forever.
God bless you Dan. ~

While searching for "Same Old Lang Syne" on Yahoo Jukebox, I discovered the rest of Dan's Legacy. I fell in love with the soul of this man as portrayed in his music. Consequently, I purchased 3 of his CD's with some of my favorite songs like: "Seeing You Again", "Hearts In Decline" and "Our Last Farewell." My condolences to all who loved him. His death has left a hole in the universe.
Dan, we will miss you very much, but you have left us so much to treasure. Jean, my deepest condolences for you and the family. Hopefully his memory and legacy, and all the hearts he touched will help with the pain and loss. Dan touched me deeply since my late teens, and "Leader of the Band" touched me particularly as I lived through my own father's suffering as he also died of prostate cancer way too early at age 56, 20 years ago. Dan's songs will provide me with comfort, joy and energy until my final day comes. In the meantime, I will schedule my next screening ASAP. ~
Peter - NJ
"Ever On" my friend.
Dan, your lyrics, your music, and your voice have comforted me for years. Your memory
will live on in my heart and on my iPod. Thanks for writing two of the most warming
songs I love. I'll always sing along when I scroll to "Lonely in Love" & "Hard to Say." God
bless. ~ Scott Aston - Austin, TX
My deepest and sincere condolences on the end of a most wonderful life
of music and lyrics. His music was played at my wedding and at many
important events with family and friends. He will be always in my
heart. I have his loving family in my prayers. Sincerely ~
Carol Guggenmos -

Thanks for the background music for many memories ,both good and bad, in my

I am so sorry for the loss of this great man. Dan's music first touched my
heart and soul during my high school years and he has been with me in song
since. Just this past Friday night the love of my life and I were sharing a
glass of wine in front of a roaring fire with Dan's first 5 albums playing. I
would not have had it any other way. His life will live on through his music
in my heart until I join him in that heavenly choir.
May God wrap his arms around you all and surround you with His Angels and
bring you comfort and peace. ~
Michael
Park City, Utah will always miss you Dan. You gave us such pleasure with your music and soul. God bless your family. ~

Dan's words and music are timeless and speak of his wonderful talent.
The lyrics are poetic and mean so much. His music brings back so many
happy memories of my college days and I love to listen to it still
today. I have been a fan since Souvenirs and will continue to listen to
his "living legacy."
Dan and I were friends during high school and early
college. I am very sad for his family and their loss
and I hope they take comfort in our good wishes. ~
David Ryan
Dan's was the first concert I ever attended and his music touched me deeply.
"Longer" has been playing in my mind all day. Peace to Jean. And men,
please take Dan's sermon to heart and schedule your testing today. ~
Karen Rose
Very saddened to hear of Dan's passing. He is now at peace and cancer free and with "The Leader of the Band."
God Bless ~

Dear Jean,
Please accept the condolences of all high school boarding students in
the '70's. We all found greater happiness in our experiences because of
Dan's music. To this day his music has been an important part of our
lives. On a personal level Dan's voice and lyrics remains one of the few
artists my wife agrees with me on. He was truly a wonderful human being
who will be deeply missed.
I wanted to share a quick thought with you, "Love never dies." In '97
our family tragically lost our cousin Katie in her sophomore year at St
Lawrence. Shortly after I began writing a script and found myself
finding great comfort in Dan's music. When the script was done it's
message was for all who have loved and lost in life. Dan's "Same Old Lang
Syne" became the focal point of the script.
The message is;
Lover never dies, it lives on in the people and places that we loved in
life. When you miss those you love most, steal a moment to yourself,
close your eyes and listen. In that silence you will forever hear the
special words that they spoke to you and feel the special way they
embraced you with a hug or a kiss.
I hope it brings you some small comfort. ~ Eddie
I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Dan Fogelberg's passing. I
first became an adoring fan in high school when Souvenirs came out, then
I fell in love with Nether Lands and listened to it over and over. My
husband and I chose "Longer" to be sung at our wedding nearly 21 years
ago, the words epitomized how we felt about each other that neither of
us were able to verbally express. We were truly blessed to have been
able to be a part of his music, and I am personally grateful to him for
his beautiful lyrics. Rest in Peace Mr. Fogelberg ~
Cindi Jackson
Heaven has a new band member.
Thank you so much Dan for your beautiful melodic voice, your brilliant songwriting, and your awesome spirit. Your music has enriched innumerable
lives for many years, including my own. You've left us far too soon.
You've left a void that can NEVER be filled. My heartfelt condolences to
Jean. God's Blessings ~
Linda in So Calif, age 59
I am at a loss for words. I loved your music, your words, your voice.
You helped me through some pretty sad times in my life. I think my
favorite of all your songs was" Forefathers" where you talked of your
heritage. I loved you, Dan. My sympathy to your wonderful wife, Jean.
God grant her peace. God bless you, my friend. Rest in eternal peace. ~
Allie Bradshaw
I love Dan's music so much. I met the best friends of my life in the early seventies and one of the things we discovered together was Dan Fogelberg. My wife and I fell in love to Home Free and Souvenirs and have always thought his music brought us closer together. It's ironic in a way that Dan died at six in the morning because the first song on his first album Home Free, is "To the Morning" - my favorite song of his. Dan went to his first day in his new home in the morning. How appropriate. May God accept Dan into His loving arms and bring comfort to his family and to all who loved him.
Dan's music got me through college in the early 80's. I had the
pleasure of attending a concert in Kansas City that I will always
remember. Best regards ~
Lisa Zimmer
Dan, I have loved your voice from the moment I heard it back in the 70's. You are truly a wonderful musician and talented artist. I kept checking your web page for updates, but there weren't many, now I know why. No more pain. ~ Kathy Baranowski - San Diego, Ca.
I am very saddened as many are at the passing of a great singer/songwriter. I have been a fan of Dan's music since I was a freshman in college in 1976. What was ironic was that I ended up working on different ranches in Colorado close to where Dan was. I got to meet Dan when he was building his house in Colorado. I ran a lodge in town where Dan housed all the workers on his house. It took a long time to build the house and consequently I had several opportunities to meet and talk with Dan. I even met his mother and family. I know that Dan valued his privacy and I always respected that. My prayers are with Jean and your family. ~ Kelly Ambrose, Berea - Kentucky.
I met Dan in Colorado in the 70's. We had lost touch but I remained a fan, and always
followed his music. He will be so missed. He will be in my prayers, and his spirit will
live on in the lives he touched, like mine, and his timeless music. ~
CM Hernandez -
Aspen, Colorado
Thank you for the music you brought to our lives. I saw Dan in concert
in
Missoula, Montana, in 1983 or 84 and he was phenomenal. Just all by himself
on the stage with his guitar, he was something else. I wish peace to his
family. ~
Nancy of Fairbanks, Alaska
I was saddened to hear of the death of Dan Fogelberg. I listened to his music a lot as a teenager and still enjoy it today (I’m 47). What great songs he wrote and sang and had such a wonderful voice. My sister and I loved singing and harmonizing along to his songs. Condolences to his loved ones. He will be greatly missed and will always be remembered and loved. ~
Pat Bergquist
Home Free... I fell in love with your music. I'm listening now and I always
will. ~ Holly
I am sitting here crying as I write this. Dan's music is amazing. And
this in itself is the best tribute to this man. I survived the disco
years listening to Captured Angel album and Souvenirs album. They were
my cherished albums of the late 70's and early 80's. My mother has
passed away and now she can hear Dan's beautiful music in heaven. Jean I
am sorry for your loss. This "captured angel" has flown home to find
peace. ~ Robin
I remember discovering Souvenirs and after that, well, need I say more. This world has lost a lovely soul and the other world has gained one. See you again, Dan. ~

Hello, My name is Randy. I have a friend who had prostate cancer. He did get
treatment and he had been clean. He then ignored his scheduled check ups.
Then a year and a half later he decided to go. The doctor discovered the
cancer had returned. They did catch it in time and he seems to cured for the
time being. This is also another concern and wake up call for all those
lucky enough to get early diagnoses and treatment. Be prudent and take
seriously the treatment and prevention afterwards. I know Dan's songs well.
When I was younger I was in a wedding band and "Longer" was THE SONG! Our
drummer sang it great and I loved that song and many others. Along with "Same Old Lang Syne"
which I swear happened to so many people. I want to celebrate
the music and lyrics Dan was able to bring to us. The fact that destiny led
him to music and me and everyone who chooses can appreciate and be
entertained by his efforts. This accomplishment alone is monumental in one's
lifetime Thank You Dan and God Bless ~
Randy Satz
Go with God. His music will live on forever by us playing it. You will
be remembered. And Jean may you find peace in knowing that he suffers no
more. Thanks for sharing him with us. ~ Don - Corpus Christi, TX
I remember the first time I heard a Dan Fogelberg song. It was "Longer" He had a very soothing unmistakable voice. I am sure many couples had their first dance to that song. I have 2 of his albums. Greatest hits and Windows and Walls. I can't listen to "Leader of the Band" without busting up inside. I hope he has found eternal peace. ~ Eric
As a long time fan I will so miss this gentle troubadour and the music he didn't have the time to create. But he left to the world his spirit and so many songs that over the years have become like companions to us. And in these he will live on forever. Godspeed Dan.
Thank you Dan for singing the very heart and soul of my life, and the lives
of so many others in our generation. I am so blessed to have had your music
accompany me on my journey for over 30 years now. My heart is full because
of your sweet strong, tender voice and the amazing talent you embodied. To
Jean, who was blessed to have a few precious years with him, an entire generation grieves with you today. "Ever on" Dan. Thank you so much for being the
beautiful minstrel. ~ Anne Lowry - Asheville NC
Many of my life experiences are intertwined with music and Dan
Fogelberg's music is a part of it. Thank you Dan Fogelberg for your
timeless gift of music. My prayers and God's peace to him and his
family. ~

It was with great sadness that we heard the news. We "grew up" with the
beautiful music and lyrics of Dan Fogelberg and those memories will live on for
us and of countless others. We would like to express our deepest sympathy
and condolences to his family and friends who will miss not only the music,
but Dan as well. We plan to make a donation in his memory to the prostate
cancer foundation. We will miss him as well. ~ Lisa Schwartz MD/ Mitchell -

My heart is broken to hear of the passing of Dan. It always seems amazing to me that God takes the good ones away. This world is so full of chaos and craziness we need people like Dan Fogelberg to help us get through the day. His music always takes me back to a time when life was much more simple. I think he would of been a wonderful person to meet, and being a musician I appreciate his genius with different styles of music. Rock to bluegrass He will live on. May God Bless His Soul ~ Jim from Ohio
His voice is so strong and clear inside my heart. I am so saddened for what you
and he must have endured, and
so thankful a person of his talent came into this world. I wish you peace and comfort. ~ David
Dan, thank you for your gift of music and your beautiful ability to tell
stories that wove themselves around my heart. This world has lost a gifted
musician and a dear friend. I am so saddened by your passing. Dear Jean,
my deepest sympathy and prayers are with you. Dan's music has been such a
big part of my life; my wedding, the birth of my three daughters; my mother's death from cancer and when I was going through a tough time I would always
put one of Dan's albums on and his music would always comfort me. I know
his music will live on because he touched the hearts and lives of millions
of people everywhere. Rest in peace Dan. ~ Kat Newland -
Massachusetts
I'm a 21-year old musician and music fan and for my money, the 70s and early 80s were the
prime time for pop music. Melody mattered, sentiment mattered, and the music struck an
emotional chord. Dan's music was a great example of all of this, whether he was rocking
or balladeer. A truly great songwriter and even better singer. Dan must have had so
much music left in his heart before this much too early passing. Rest in peace Dan, you
left us music fans a true legacy that won't be forgotten. ~ Matt Chiricosta
He was way too young. His music gave me many, many hours of happiness.
He was a talent that God gave us if only for a little while.
My prayers go out for the both of you. Dan, to know he left such a
positive mark on this world he visited and you Jean, to come to peace
with his departure. He played the most heavenly guitar and piano I have
every heard, with lyrics that said volumes with every word. My wife and
I have sung, played and tried to do his songs justice for 30 years now. ~
Frank and Robin Gerber -

I was in my early teens when Dan Fogelberg's music became a part of my life. My brother introduced me to his music and it brings me back to a time in my
life when things were a lot simpler. What great memories I have of his
music, sharing it with my friends, and actually going to see him in concert.
My heart goes out to his family. His legacy will live on, and he will be
missed. God bless to you all.
He was always known to me as "Dan the man Fogelberg". What a writer,
what a musician, what a man.
His music will live in my heart and mind forever, I will miss him. ~
Ron Hust
I wish to send my condolences to the family of Dan Fogelberg. He was one of my favorites.

I have loved Dan and his music as long as I can remember. I had the
opportunity to meet him during an interview for a news magazine show and
have seen him in concert many times. I will raise a glass to his memory on
New Years Eve. I am so sorry for your and our loss. He is and was an amazing
man.
My Best Regards ~
Sharon Taksel -

My heart goes out to all family, friends, and fans of Dan. He will be
missed. ~ Tim - Denver, CO
For Jean and all of Dan's family, God saw he was getting tired, and a cure was not to be: So He put his arms around him and He whispered "Come with me." With tearful eyes we watched him suffer, and saw him fade away. Although we loved him dearly, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He takes only the best. Many times I saw Dan in concert but I can only imagine the one in heaven today as another "Leader of the Band" has joined the heavenly chorus. Music has lost a brilliant voice today, but it shall never be silenced. May the grace of God be with you now and always. ~ Debbie Parish - Beavercreek, Ohio
Dan's music touched me at so many levels during so many times of my life.
Loves gained and lost, the rebirth of faith, tragedies, celebrations, and
each new life phase was greeted with his music since I first discovered
his gifts at age 15 in 1973. The title track on his Nether Lands album
is my theme song. His legacy will live on for decades in his art, music,
and poetry. Thank you for sharing him with the world. May God's grace
and comfort be with you in tangible ways as we all learn to go on without
him in our physical midst. "Tu es dans ma coeur et dans ma tete." ~
Judy McNeill Linger, MD -
Vero Beach, Florida, 32960
How can one say "Thank You" and "Goodbye" all at the same time? To Jean, family and friends, please know that Dan's, words, songs and music, will live in our hearts forever, and we are truly blessed to have had him in our lives. Dan's song "Longer" was my husband's and my wedding song in 1980. We have Dan's DVD Greetings From The West, which we watch regularly. We were lucky enough to see him live when he came to Toronto, Canada. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time, and hope you are comforted by knowing how great a man he was and how much love he brought to us all.
Sincerest love ~
Janet Rhind
My deepest sympathy to Mr. Fogelberg's family. I absolutely LOVED his music and, just a few days ago, I heard "Same Old Lang Syne" on the radio and smiled, remembering his appearances in Louisville, KY, in the '70's and '80's. I believe it was during one of those visits that he wrote "Run for the Roses."
Thankfully, we have that beautiful music to remember him by. ~
Debbie Young -
New Albany, IN
I have thought very much about how Dan was doing since the announcement
of the cancer. My wife Vicki and I prayed often for Dan and his family.
A beautiful person and songwriter has been silenced. But his work will
live on forever in recordings and words. Anyone who has never taken the
time to listen to any of Dan's music truly does not know what there
missing. Even when introduced to our younger nieces and nephews they
comment on how wonderfully written and beautiful songs came out of such
a man. He will be missed. I can only hope that perhaps Dan had produced
other songs that were never released may be by his family if they choose
to do so to share with all of his fans. Dan had very hard core long term
fans. Myself since high school. I have all of his work and never get
tired of it. May God Bless Dan's family especially this time of year.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love ~

It is truly a sad day.
We've lost a legend that fought bravely until the end.
Thank you for your music that helped me through many rough moments in my life.
May peace be with you and your family. ~

Today I mourn the passing of a truly great artist and an inspiration in my life and music. My heart goes out to the Fogelberg family and I am truly saddened to hear of Dan's passing. Dan's music has touched my life and inspired me immensely. He will always be one of my mentors and heroes.
Walk in peace Dan. May the trail rise up to meet you. ~

Regardless of whatever lies beyond our time here on Earth, Dan did what we should
all strive to do; touch the lives of so many people in the most pleasant way
that we can. He did it through his music. Thanks Dan, it wasn't a poor attempt. ~ Tom
I wish to send my deep condolences to the family of Dan. I knew his
father very well in high school, because he was my band director. Dan
himself came to my concert, way back in the '70's. I wish to send this
out to his mother as I have seen her in Peoria from time to time.
Thanks for the memories Dan ~
Bob Ehrich
A sad, sad day. The greatest singer/songwriter of all has left us on the 16th of December. I pray Dan may rest in peace. He will perform in heaven soon, I know for sure. God must be a fan of his music to take him so early to heaven, no wonder we all are.
I will remember him in all his songs which I will be playing for the rest of my life.
I wish to say my condolences to his wife Jean and the rest of his family. ~
Peter Lage - Venterink, Holland
Not a winter goes by here in New England that I'm not moved by the
haunting lyrics of "Same Old Lang Syne". Every time it comes on the
radio I'm transported back 25 years to a girl that I once new and loved.
Mr. Fogelberg's mastery of painting pictures with his lyrics has impacted
me forever and for this I am grateful. You will be missed my friend but
never forgotten. There must be a special place reserved in heaven for
the souls that have brought peace and joy to so many people. May you
find comfort knowing that he is at peace and with God, Jean and family. ~ Bill Doyle

Dan Fogelberg's music has touched so many people .I am one of them. His album,The Innocent Age, with its haunting melodies and touching lyrics has been a favorite of mine since it was introduced. His love for God's earth and his wonderful contributions to its longevity will be missed. I will be lifting up prayers for his wife and all those who will miss this wonderful and compassionate man. ~

I am so sad. What a beautiful voice silenced. You will be missed, Dan.
I am so sad, I feel like a part of my youth as been snatched away from
me. A part I cannot retrieve. May God bless his wife and those who are
left to mourn his absence. ~
Susie
Dear Jean,
I don't have words to express how sorry I am to hear of Dan's passing.
I have so missed his voice. The world has truly lost a beautiful and
talented soul, though heaven has gained one.
I know it does not ease your sorrow to know that thousands mourn with
you, but I pray that with time your memories will make you smile and
have hope and comfort that you will meet again someday.
May God's love comfort you at this time.
Sincerely ~

Dan Fogelberg is without a doubt one of the more talented and gifted songwriters of our times. He and his music and his environmental stewardship will be greatly missed. His music helped me through hard times, good times and all the in-between times. As a musician/singer, I have been greatly influenced by his work. May God bless you and keep you in your time of grieving. We shall never forget this legend. ~ Martin Gibson in "Old Tennessee"
Dan left the world very beautiful music. He was gifted and gave us HIS GIFT of music. ~

I had the pleasure of seeing Dan Fogelberg four times; the Amazing Grace in Evanston Il, in the early 70s
The Auditorium Theater with his band Fools Gold, in the mid 70s - Chicago, and with the Eagles at the Arie Crown theater in Chicago also.
The last time was at Navy Pier in 2002-2003 outside on a beautiful summer night with my wife, might have been one of the last, I know it was one of his best. A bird landed on the stage, he took a look at it,
looked at the audience and proceeded to play "Blackbird."
Thanks for the memories. Also thanks for playing your Martins like no one else, I try to copy your style as best I can. Home Free to Full Circle - they were all great. ~
Mike
It broke my heart to find out that Dan had died, actually brought a tear to my eye reading about it. There is not enough room to say what a great singer he was. How I loved Nether Lands when it came out, and still consider it one of the best album/cd's by anyone. No not enough room. My sympathies go to all the other fans, Dan's family and last but not least, his wife Jean. No one lost more than she.
Dear Dan,
Unfortunately I have never seen you perform live, but through your music you were always there reaching out to my heart. You were there to comfort me in sad times and to en light me further in happy times. I got to know you when I
lived in the US as an exchange student and I introduced your music to my
brother, who became an even bigger fan. Especially at the end of the
seventies and early eighties when I was a young adult exploring life you
were part of my life in music and helped me form the person I am now. For me
you never died as you live on through your music.
In gedachten en muziek ben je altijd bij me. (in thought and music you will always be with me, love) Veel liefs ~
Brigitta Teeling, Zwolle, the Netherlands
Many of us leave our mark in this world only on those who share our day-to-day lives. A few rare individuals have the opportunity to touch the hearts of millions. Dan was one of those exceptional souls. Through the gift of his lyrics and music he gave voice to the feelings of many for whom words are not an art form. I offer my most sincere condolences to his loved ones who now must face the void he left. Our collective loss pales in comparison to yours, but we feel the pain deeply. God bless you and keep you and carry you through your grief safely. ~

My heart goes to Dan's family and friends. "Same Old Lang Syne" is a song that is close to my heart. My God's peace be with you at this time. Celebrate that he touched so many. ~

I started listening to Dan while a student at UNC-Chapel Hill in the late 70's. His words and music spoke to my heart. My heart is heavy today with his passing, but his music will never fall quiet. My sincere condolences to his family. What a poet. ~ Carol
It was with great sadness that I learned of your passing. You are truly
a "living legacy" and will continue to live on in your lyrics and the
spiritual sound of your voice. I was privileged to attend three of your
concerts, two here on the Mississippi Gulf coast. It was with great joy
that I purchased Full Circle at your last concert here in Biloxi.
As will thousands of others, I will miss the anticipation of your
concerts but will treasure the times I was able to spend listening to
you in concert and the continuing times I will have to absorb your
heartfelt music.
Go with God. ~
J.R.
As a musician, Dan's music has been very influential. I hope to someday
match the expertise of song writing that he had. My prayer is for you,
the family left who will carry this burden of his passing. May you be
given the peace and the strength to encourage one another for the coming
days.
Sincerely ~

Such a sad loss. I was very sad to hear about Dan's passing away. The snow is
gently falling here as I write this and there is a sense of calm and peace.
Dan's pain has finally been set free. I wish to send my sincerest sympathy and prayers to Dan's wife Jean and his family and friends. I couldn't help but think about his song "Leader of the Band" after hearing about this, and smiling to think that Dan will now be with his Dad up above and they will play their music on and on. The stars in the sky will shine brighter now, so I will be sure to look for Dan's inspiration and music there. He has given us a wealth of gems to hit the replay on, and he will forever be missed. I never got to see Dan do a live show, it saddens me to think I never will get the chance to now. Such an early age, sooo many songs yet to be written. What a legacy to leave behind, I will treasure His legacy forever, and am very thankful for the Inspiration that Dan gave so freely in all of his songs. Shine Onnnn Dan. Love ~ Nancy Holtz - Hastings, PA
I had the pleasure of talking to him in Boulder early in his career and found
him to be humble and funny. Jean and family, please accept my deepest
sympathy in his passing. Take heart in two things. One, he touched millions of people
with his brilliance and will remain immortal through his music. Two, he is
where the guitars never need tuning, the harmonies are always perfect, and the
only thing that is flat is the road to eternal happiness. RIP, Dan, I will miss
you. ~ Matt McCauley - St. Peters, MO.
Having been raised and currently living in Illinois, I was drawn to one
of your songs several years ago called "Illinois" ("I may miss the
harvest, but I won't miss the feast.")
Years later I heard a song that made me cry the first time I heard it, "Leader of the Band. " I printed it and gave it to my own father, he
wept.
Dan, I have listened to your songs, your words, your music for almost 30
years. You touched my life and the lives of so many people. God bless
you Dan, may you rest in peace and Dan, thank you for your
assistance in educating my heart. ~ Jeff McGuire
My sincere condolences To Jean and all Mr. Fogelberg's friends and loved ones who were fortunate enough to personally know and love him. His music guided me through my college years and beyond, and I know I have broken more than one guitar string in my feeble attempts to play and sing his music. He will continue to be my and my wife's favorite singer-songwriter, and will live on in our house through my playing his music on my guitar, and on my CD player when my fingers are sore. His Christmas album is one of our favorites and is a big part of our holiday music. He was a gifted musician. I thank him for his music and the love he shared through it. ~ Brian
So many have said many wonderful things about Dan, his music, his impact on their lives. There is very little more to be said except that he was a beautiful soul, he was an extraordinary talent, and he seemed to live his life in a manner that we all could learn from. The best we can do is to love those around us and continue to support the things he believed in. His light went out to early but what a magnificent gift he gave us all. We are so lucky to have been able to share in his gift. All the best to Jean and his family in their time of great sorrow. ~ Elizabeth Atwell Hart
Dear Jean and family,
I am so deeply saddened by this news. Dan has been an inspiration to me
through his incredible music and talent. I cannot think of a time when I
haven't had a reason to listen to Dan's soothing voice. His talent cannot
be measured nor surpassed by anyone. I cannot believe I will never see him
on stage again or sing along with him in a concert. My dream was to
someday sing on stage with him. I only hope that I will see him again in
heaven. He has truly been and will always be one of my favorite musical
artists of all time.
Sincerely ~

It saddens me to hear of Dan's passing today. He was one of the very
talented musicians blessed with the ability to write, sing and play such
beautiful music. The music family has lost another child. Thank you for all
the great lyrics and songs you bestowed upon us. I hope to catch your
concert when I get there. Until then rock-on my brother, rock-on.
Godspeed Dan. My thoughts and prayers are with you Jean and the family. Dan's songs and voice touched so many, we will keep him in our hearts. ~ Mary - Cedarburg, WI
I just learned of Dan's passing, not even knowing before that moment
that he was sick. I am one year older than Dan and feel my mortality,
and know that Dan must have felt his. We are all diminished by his
passing, but we will be uplifted by his music so long as any of us are
alive. Jean, our prayers go out to you. May God lift you up at this
difficult time of year. ~

Dan, your work had such an impact on me and for our generation. My
favorite concert memory of yours was in Berkeley at the Twin Sons of
Different Mothers tour. Your work, your voice, your inspiration were
magic. We will miss you deeply, and will remember your songs and music
"longer than there are fishes in the ocean." ~

With great sadness, we wish to offer our deepest condolences to Dan's family.
The power of Dan's music and performance is an unforgettable experience of my
youth. I can hear "Part of the Plan" in my head just as clear as the first time I heard it on the radio cruising through Jackson Hole in 1976. Our paths crossed many times working in the concert business in NM, and Co. Thank you Dan and company for all the great shows in CO and NM that we were so privileged to provide sound for; the solo shows and the blues band (frankie and the fairlanes?) all great times. Our last show in vail, Dan played his heart out in frigid temps. Adios amigo, you remain the "Living Legacy" ~ Gary & Laura Mathews
So sad to have you leave us, Dan, but glad for your soul's release. Your
music will forever be in my heart. ~ Gail - Long Grove, IL
Dear Jean,
My condolences to you and your family. We know that our pain is much less than yours is, but I think that we all felt that Dan was part of our family. We grew up together and his music was there for us during many hard times. Thanks to Dan for everything. We will miss him, but we will all be reunited in heaven. What a gathering that will be. ~

Over the past few years, I have followed the few press releases regarding Dan's cancer recovery, and this morning's news frankly just left me weeping. As a 51 year old non-professional musician, this man and his music had a much more profound effect on me than I ever could have imagined. I feel like I've lost a guardian of a piece of my own musical soul. May he rest in Peace and may the Great God of Grace and Mercy watch over Dan and his family.

I also was very surprised at Dan's passing. I love your music and have been listening to it for years. Your words were so real to me and carried me through some bad times and made good times. One of your lines always troubled me though: "there is no eden or heavenly gates, that you're going to make it through one day, but all of the answers you seek can be found, in the dreams that you dream on the way." I know now that you went through those heavenly gates and all of your answers are more than found. I loved you and will continue to play your music. My prayers for your family. ~ Diane
There are no words to console you,I know. But please know that Dan
touched our hearts and very souls and made a difference to the world.
Warm regards ~

Thanks for the timeless music. It will live on. Rest In peace ~ Pete
We provided sound service for Dan on many occasions back in the late 80's/early
90's and have fond memories of a heartfelt performer. Although we haven't seen him in years, he left us much too soon.
Our condolences go out to his family.
Sincerely ~
