I am very saddened to hear of Dan's passing. He will live on forever in our hearts and memories. ~ Mike Roach, Montana
I am saddened by the passing of Dan Fogelberg and have many wonderful memories of his music. When I was 21 (1977), I went on a life journey across the US in an old MG from Niagara Falls. I had a general goal of making it to the west coast and meeting a cousin who lived in an unknown place called Pacifica. I had no idea where I would ultimately end up, but my life was going nowhere in the small farm town in western NY and I knew there was a place out there for me. Because my MG did not favor the flat-out, straight nature of freeways, I traveled back roads from town to town across the country. I camped every night, cooked over an open fire and found myself in the most beautiful and breathtaking places. The MG was small, but I was able to fit a guitar, a pot and pan, pup tent and sleeping bag. All I had and everything I owned was in that MG. For music, I wired a cassette player into the car and tucked it under the drivers seat. I had a ten or so tapes, one of which was Dan Fogelberg's "Nether Lands".
I can still clearly remember driving, with the top down, hair flying in the wind, free in spirit, living life and looking for my truth with each new day. How clearly I remember singing along, at the top of my lungs, with Dan 's "Nether Lands" lyrics.."High on this mountain, the clouds down below. I'm feeling so strong and alive. From this rocky perch, I continue the search for the wind and the snow and the sky..." No truer story was every told. This was an expansive time for me, with the whole physical and ethereal world to explore. Dan's music touched my life, gave me hope, kept me company and helped create a visual tone for this wondrous life journey. He was with me then and is still with me now. A heartfelt thanks goes out to Dan and deepest sympathies to his family. The wonderful spirit of his soul will live on in all who were touched by his music. Thanks for letting me share. ~ Scott Harriman
My beautiful wife turned me on to Dan some 25 years ago and some of my greatest concert memories are tied up in singing "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler" with him many times. He will truly be missed in our lives. ~ David Guenett and Patty Mitchell
Dear Jean and family, I've been a fan of Dan's since 1974 -- since I was six years old! I've been an avid fan and a collector of Dan's music ever since I could buy albums on my own. I've seen Dan twice in Portland, Oregon and thoroughly enjoyed his live shows. I was saddened to hear of Dan's diagnosis in 2004 and I was really hoping for a miracle. Upon hearing of Dan's passing last night on the 10 o'clock news, I sobbed in my dear husband's arms -- who is Dan's age. Today, I am playing CD's to honor Dan and, you Jean as Dan's memorial. I appreciate Dan's courage to fight his cancer and I am very grateful for his warning to all men to get tested once a year. Thank you and your webmasters to allow us fans to show our gratitude for Dan's music and sorrow of Dan's passing. "His blood runs through my instrument and his songs are in my soul..." Sincerely ~ K. D. Wallace
Prayers go out to you and your family. Your music saved me so many times. Thank you for your gifts, your love of music and melody. With love and peace ~ Allison
This is a sad day indeed. God's Speed. ~ David & Dory, Lethbridge, AB, Canada
There are no words to express the loss experienced with the passing of Dan. It seems so surreal. He was always there with his music. The silence is deafening. ~ Diana, Texas
I am a tremendous fan and listen to Dan sing almost every day. I love, love, love his early stuff ("Illinois", "Changing Horses", "Better Change", etc...) My brother and sister introduced me to his music years ago, so I grew up listening and learning to play his songs on the guitar. In fact, my first date was to Dan's concert in Huntsville, Alabama in the mid 1980s. Jean, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I am committed to praying for your peace and your comfort during this difficult time! ~ Tanjie Kling; Huntsville, Alabama
Dear Jean, I am speechless. The details are irrelevant now, but suffice to say that Dan's music got me through some of the hardest times of my life. The edge that many of his songs have will take on a whole new dimension for me now. I can't remember where I read it or who wrote it, but "if I could reach up and hold a star for every time Dan's music made me smile, the entire night sky would be in the palm of my hand." He will be missed. I am so very sorry. With love ~ Andrea Smith, Piedmont, SC
I saw Dan twice at the Holiday Star Theater in Merrillville Indiana in the 90's. He'd play there when he'd come back to the Chicago area to visit family. Wonderful shows and forever are great memories for me. I will miss you Dan.~ Kevin Martin
My brothers introduced me to Dan Fogelberg at age 14. I am 44 now and listen to Dan every day in my car or ipod. I am profoundly heartbroken to hear of his death. Dan Fogelberg's voice has been a part of my life for so long, I am overwhelmingly saddened. I loved him.
I was saddened to hear of Dan Fogelberg's death this morning. Dan's music touched me as both a musician and a fan. He crafted beautiful songs - haunting melodies with lyrics that spoke truths. Years ago I played "Leader of the Band" for my father-in-law on his birthday and made him cry (I'm assuming that it wasn't my rendition of the song that made him cry). My condolences go out to Dan's family and friends. His music was a blessing to so many. Blessings ~ Rich Kelley
My deepest condolences go out to Dan's wife and family. Dan's voice and music has always affected me personally
on the deepest emotional and spiritual level. He was unquestionably one of my favorite vocalists. I am deeply saddened by this news. God Bless Dan. Sincerely ~ Bob Conboy, San Diego
Dear Jean and other fans, Dan's music endeared our hearts with a gentle message that serves to validate those in our lives who are special. Dan, like all the other 150,000 people who die every day, are special gifts to us and have a contribution to the world as a whole. Dan took hold of the challenge and gave us music that proved equal to the task and a pleasure to sing along with. Thank you Dan Fogelberg for all you were and gave to us. We love your music and will miss you. Admiringly yours ~ Gilbert Nichols, Fayetteville, NC
I loved Dan's music. He has been my favorite since he first started. I am 55 and can relate as we were in the same era. He will be eternally missed as there is nothing like his music. God Bless Dan and thank you Jean for caring for him. I am a two year survivor of cancer and just wished Dan could have been as fortunate as me. ~ Sr. Bobbi Bussan
I wonder how many people became musicians because of Dan's music. I am one of those people. Dan will be sorely missed but his music and his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched. My condolences to Jean and family. ~ Steve Prusik, Sullivan, MO

Rest in peace. Thanks for the many years of great music. You will be missed.
We have lost a true & genuine being in the passing of Dan. We all will miss him & his wonderful talent. His ability to tell the story in music and make you feel apart of it, in fact a gift. There will not be another talent such as him. My heartfelt condolences go out to his wife & family. Just know that in his short life, he has brought joy & happiness to millions and we all owe Dan a debt of gratitude for his soft , gentle, caring nature thru his music. Dan may be gone, but, his music will live on. God bless you Dan & God bless your family.
Dan Fogelberg touched my life and I thank him for his everlasting music. ~ Tom Lynn
We were stunned to see the news in the paper. We were fortunate to have seen Dan twice, the last time in Madison, and both times we were within the first few rows of seats. The last time was an experience we will always treasure. We will remember Dan through his wonderful songs and musicianship. He brought us years of happiness through song and we'd hoped for many more. God's comfort to the family in this time of grief. ~ Dave and Chris, Wisconsin
I was stunned this morning to hear about the passing of Dan Fogelberg. I have been a fan of his music for over 30 years, and I remember distinctly the first time I listened to the "Captured Angel" album. I was in a cold and crummy rental house, out on my own for the first time, and the song "Aspen", an instrumental, literally brought me to tears. Dan's songs have been a part of my life and will continue to be. One of my very favorite songs is a little-known tune called "Don't Lose Heart", which has inspired me since the first time I heard it. I'll never forget him or his music. ~ Chris Johnson, Canton, GA
Our thoughts and prayers are with Dan's wife and family. We cannot express our sadness at the news of Dan's passing on. A truly "Golden Voice" has been silenced today. May you find comfort in knowing that Dan has touched lives from the past, present and future and his legacy will continue on for generations to come. God bless you during this most trying of times. ~ Flory, Dirk, Sean, Pierce and Brandon Renshaw, Katy, Texas
My deepest sympathy to Jean at this very sad time. Dan's music is very much a part of the soundtrack of my life. I can't tell you how many times I watched the sunrise listening to "To the Morning" or found myself belting out (yes you can belt out a folk song) "More Than Ever" or "Anyway I Love You." Home Free" is one of my most precious albums of all times. I am thankful his music will live on forever. I am thankful for Dan. ~ Grace Wimbish
The loss of a musical talent of Dan's magnitude diminishes my own life and I believe the entire world around us. He gave us all so much that his absence will leave a tremendous void in many lives. Dan was truly a musical genius who changed countless lives with his beautiful melodies and profound lyrics. His music touched my life for over 25 years and I was privileged to have seen him in concert on several occasions during that time. He was always a magnificent performer! Dan, you will be missed by countless fans for years to come. And while my heart is deeply saddened with your passing. I can't help but smile at the thought of how much brighter the heavenly choir must sound now that your beautiful tenor voice has been added to those multitudes. Till we meet on the other side, may God keep you in His perfect grace always! ~ Jeff Davis, Augusta, GA.
I grew up listening to you, Mr. Fogelberg. My mother has everything you've ever written. Each time I listen to you I can feel the power of your music. As a teenager, I sent my mother to see you in concert in L.A. in the front row. She said that was the best gift she'd ever received. Now I'm a mother with three small children and they immediately know it's you when I play your music. I am saddened that you are no longer in this world, but you will live on forever in my mother's eyes, my children's eyes, and my heart. Thank you for sharing your gift with us. Let it shine! ~ Leslie Jones
I was very sorry to hear of Dan's passing on Sunday 12/16. I have always loved his music & the joy & simple expressions he portrayed through his song writing. He will be truly missed. My condolences go out to his family, friends and all who shared in his legacy. ~ Charles L Watson, Rochester, NY
This gentle soul was always there with me, musically, through so many phases in my life. I hear a song and start a journey back to people I knew and places I lived. God bless him on his journey and God bless his family during this time of loss and transition.
I am trying to write my condolences through tear-filled eyed. I am so sorry to Jean and all of Dan's family and friends. I so loved his music and I'm sure he was as good a person and husband as he was a songwriter and singer. God Bless Him and I thank him for making my life filled with his great music. I still have all his albums on vinyl and am listening to one now as I write this. You will be sorely missed, Mr. Fogelberg. May you rest in peace. ~ John Castle, Tecumseh, Michigan
The world has lost a beautiful soul much too early, and I feel that I have lost an old friend. Dan Fogelberg's music has been part of my life since my early teen years, and I am now 49. My kids were raised listening to his songs, and they are grown now, and still know all the words. I will miss him very much. He left a musical legacy that will continue to touch hearts and lives. I send my condolences to Dan's family and friends. May they find peace and rest in knowing he has gone home and is no longer in pain and suffering. There must have been a fabulous reunion in heaven.... ~ Kristie Swisher
I have been through his albums, cassettes, and Cd's - I will always have Fogelberg in my collection. Through different times in my life his message and music have meant so much. I can only hope that Dan is truly in a better place. God Bless him and his family. ~ Mary Jo
I am so saddened by this news. We live in Durango, Colorado, very close to Dan's adopted home. One of my happiest memories was seeing him perform at Red Rocks a few years ago with our son and daughter-in-law. My kids grew up with his music, and it will always be special to all of us. My husband is a prostate cancer survivor -- thank you for making other men aware of this terrible disease. Our prayers and thoughts are with you, Jean. ~ Sue and Jim Mooney
Dan: My father and I enjoyed a great relationship, much better than most fathers and sons, and your music was always a big part of that. We both play guitar which makes your music a likely candidate, but it was the sentiment of your music that truly brought it to the top of the list. We'll be getting together again for the Holiday in a week or so, and we'll sing "Same Old Lang Syne" in your memory. You have truly given to us a gift we know we never can repay. ~ J. Michael Roach
God bless Dan. He is now performing for the Lord. ~ Craig
I am terribly saddened to hear of Dan's death. His music will live on and on as all great music does. Thanks God we have that. Jean, may you soon come to some peace. I'm sure Dan is watching over you. ~ Jeanie, Laura, Ohio
I was grieved to hear of the passing of Dan Fogelberg this morning. Since the early 80's Dan Fogelberg has been one of my favorite artist. Most sentimentally is "Longer", which was played at my wedding in 1981. To this day "Longer" brings so much happiness to me when I hear it, except today when I played it and cried. May his family find peace during this difficult time.
Dan touched me when I was a very young man with the lyrics on "Captured Angel". Dan, "your cage door's been flung wide open." I still play "These Days" at least once a week on my guitar and you'll always be my favorite writer, player, singer and artist. Thank you so much Dan! ~ Bryan Smith
My deepest condolences to the family. He was my idol. I was fortunate enough to see him in concert twice. The second time was in San Diego, I was front row center. I was so blown away by his talent. I have everything he ever made. The world has lost its last great poet.
To the family of Dan Fogelberg, I can't possibly express the sense of loss I feel right now. I've been playing guitar for 45 years, and Dan's music has always been a major influence in the direction my own musical path took me. I wish I could have met him. My wife and I have lived in Nederland, CO for eight years now, and it's unfortunate that I couldn't have been there when he was there. I mourn the passing of an exceptionally talented, and exceptionally good, man. The world is much diminished without him in it. My thoughts and sympathy go to you, his family. ~ Jim Ayer
My heart is breaking.
He was the single most listened-to musician when I was in college in Vermont in the late 70s. Whenever I hear one of his songs, I am transported back to Burlington and realize how time has flown. My deepest sympathies to his family. He was always live on in our memories. ~ Jeffrey Scott Beckerman, Esq.
So sad to hear about Dan's passing. I remember my first time - listening to Souvenirs & Captured Angel. I think it was 1976 and I visited a friend in Charlottesville, Va, who had been my tour director in Europe a few months earlier. I was hooked and still listen to the 4 CD set all the time. Saw Dan in concert a few times, loved the solo acoustic tour at William & Mary. So many great songs, so many memories. Dan helped make me the man I am today. I hope he knows that somewhere. ~ Jeff Hutton
Dan's music has been a favorite of mine since the 70's and it was part of a cassette (remember those?) that I compiled for my then to be wife. I shall miss him, but continue to enjoy the legacy of his music. My condolences to his wife and family.
You touched us with your artistry, your humanity, your spirit. To your family and friends, I pray comfort and peace. To your soul, I pray thanks. Go with God, my friend.
I read of Dan's passing this morning and was truly saddened. Dan's music touched me from the very first song I heard, and it will continue to touch me throughout the rest of my life. Dan will be missed. ~ Rob, Jackson, TN
I cried this morning as I heard the news of Dan Fogelberg's passing. His music both inspired me and helped me through some difficult journeys during my life. I will forever keep his songs and the memories that his songs created for me, deep inside my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with his family as I know, he rests among the stars watching over all of us. God Bless ~ Darcy Gregory
Jean, Thank you for sharing Dan with the world. He inspired me in so many ways. I am not typically one who writes into or joins fan clubs, but felt strongly enough about Dan's music and public messages that I am compelled to share with you the fact that I will forever stand in his shadow. ~ T.J. Tischer, Santee, CA
To the Fogelberg Family, You are in our thoughts and prayers. Dan Fogelberg's music touched so many people's lives. I first started listening to his music when I was 18. I have followed his career for the last 30 years. I feel like I have lost a good friend. His music was both inspiring and comforting to many of us. His voice will never be silenced; it lives on through his legacy and in the hearts of so many. God's blessings in the days ahead. ~ Maureen Ley
My younger brother called me this morning to break the news of our loss. When we were growing up I turned him on to Dan's great albums and he knew I would be saddened, but would want to know. I have used this as my signature line on a breast cancer message board that I visit: "Love when you can, cry when you have to, be who you must, it's a part of the plan." -Dan Fogelberg. So many strong messages in all of his lyrics. I hope you don't mind me sharing. To Dan's family and personal friends, my heartfelt condolences. He is not really gone, as he will live on in your memories and in his music. I hope that brings you peace and helps you all through the sorrow. ~ christine k, st. louis, mo
Deepest Sympathy from 50's Rocker, Charlie Gracie and Family - We wish to express our condolences and send prayers to the family and friends of the wonderful Dan Fogelberg. We were deeply saddened to hear of his passing this morning. For us, he was truly a great artist whose lyrics and melodies touched our hearts and souls every time we heard him. My father, Charlie Gracie (1950's rock 'n' roll star) was especially fond of Dan's "Leader Of The Band" because it reminded him of his own father who inspired him (my dad) to a lifetime in music and performing--a career that has now spanned 56-years. What a great musical legacy Dan leaves us--a gift we will continue gain joy and inspiration from for as long as we walk in this life. Thank you Dan any May God Bless Your Soul. Very Sincerely ~ Charlie Gracie, Jr. and Family
I am so saddened by the news of Dan's passing. His music touched us all in so many ways. I can't think of an artist who spoke from the soul like Dan did. He will be sorely missed. My heart, and prayers go out to Jean and his family. Sincerely ~ Lisa Formica
My daughter called me yesterday with the news. I cried. For 30 years Dans music has been a part of my life. I'm playing selections off his Christmas album this season and am once again reminded of how talented Dan was. I was fortunate enough to see Dan play live 3 times. May you enjoy eternal rest Dan. My prayers are with Jean and the rest of Dans family. ~ L.S., Washington State
Jean, Your husband had an impact on my life and I am grateful to have
seen him in concert many times and grateful I can listen to his music
and feel connected. Your husband through his poetic words and unmatched
voice truly made my heart feel soft and good. His message definitely came
through to me ~

To the family of Dan Fogelberg -
Dan's music brought me such joy and happiness. It helped me through some hard times too. He really made a difference on this earth. I saw him a few years ago in Bend Oregon and he was as classy as ever. My favorite song was "Gambler." I have played it quite a bit these last few hours. My prayers are with family and wish them the best in these difficult times.
From the moment I heard the song "Nether Lands" (or can I call it an
anthem?), I felt I had discovered a kindred spirit in this journey of life.
Though I never met you, Dan, your music over the years has inspired me to be
better than I was.
Dan, may you now truly learn to fly and know the freedom of spirit as you
reach your "Nether Lands" and hear those "beating of heavenly wings" as your "soul rises and sings anthems to glory and anthems to love."
Though you only had a brief 56 years here on this earth, this world is a
better place because you lived. I give thanks to God for your life among
us. Thank you for giving us the gift of your honest self through your music
and passions. ~
The Rev. Thomas Robinson,
Easton, PA.
Dan, I will miss your talent and musical skill. I have enjoyed your music
from the start of your professional career. Our prayers and thoughts go out
to Jean and your family. I am certain your Dad is very proud and the two of
you are making beautiful music in infinite time.
To the Fogelberg family and friends:
I grieve with you at the passing of such a gentle, creative, loving soul. The world is a better place for the music he created and I wanted to thank Spirit for letting his soul be here for what is, to me, far too short a time.
May he Run for the Roses forever.
Healing, Love, Peace.
OM Namah Shivaya.
Padme (Lyn Gilbert),

Dear Jean & Family,
We are so sorry for your loss.
There is nothing that I can say at this point that will make you feel
better. I can't imagine having to be without my Husband of 19 yrs, especially at the
Holiday Season. The only thing I'm sure of is that Dan is no longer in pain.
He had a long battle, and now it's over and he can rest.
My ex-husband, the father of my 4 daughters, passed away in March from
throat cancer (he was 48 yrs old). Even as adults, you can't console children when
they lose a parent. All you can do is let them talk, cry and vent. Be a
good listener for them, no matter how much it hurts. Please know, that there
are people out here that truly feel your pain that only time will heal.
You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
~Susan Griffith,
Talent Coordinator/Producer-KBIG Radio
I have listened to Dan for many years and saw him once in when he performed in California. I will always cherish the music he played and am saddened to hear of his passing. I will keep his family in my thoughts and prayers during this trying time. ~ Ralph Roberts
I mourn a great loss for the artist, the inspiration and a friend who I
had yet to meet. My prayers are for Jean and family; God bless you,
console you and keep you now and always. I feel so fortunate to have
been alive during the period where I could enjoy Dan's music in the time
in which it was written and performed. ~ Sam in Georgia
Dan will sing with the Angels. ~
Tom Owens
Thank you for the gift of your words and your music. It has been the soundtrack
of so much of my life. You will always be warmly remembered. ~ Jeffrey Dean Sullivan - Salt Lake City - Utah
Dear Jean,
I share your sadness with Dan's passing. Know that his music enriched my life, inspired me to care, to dream, to love, to forgive, and to play & sing. At 51, I lived the life that Dan sang of and until yesterday was a happy man. Haven't cried in years...the gates are open today.
With love and respect ~
Monte
Dan's songs were poignant and beautiful beyond anything I have ever heard.
The poetry, the music, and the beautiful tenor voice so clear and naturally
beautiful. I am just stunned by his death. May he rest in peace. ~
Faith Bader Vogel
What a great musician. He will live on through his music.
Dan Fogelberg - the mere mention of his name stirs up wonderful
memories of friends, love and laughter. We attended a Dan Fogelberg
concert in Houston in the early 1980s and it was one of the best
performances I had ever seen. I loved his music and voice the first
time I heard it and continue to love it to this day. My heart broke
when I heard of his passing. I will cherish his music even more. ~
Colleen Mace
My first college love introduced me to Dan and his music. We saw his
concert at Purdue in 1975. Donna and Dan both touched me deeply. I
have held them in my heart over since.
I feel sadness and I am weeping for the friends who are close to this man.
Dan is gone from your physical touch, and lingering hugs.
I am also weeping with a glowing heart that my experience has been effected, that I have
been a better writer since hearing his work. As always, I still have the ability to
collaborate under the branches of The Creativity Tree, I treasure that, as all of us on
the branches do. Love can be so crushing, still good even when it hurts. Jean, I believe
we are never gone, only somewhere else, I focus on your strength. PAX ~ Brian David
Alexander.
Dan,
Thank you for sharing your wondrous gifts throughout the years. Your music
and lyric touched so many so deeply, helped to heal countless broken
spirits as well as served to remind us to take a look within ourselves and smile. Although I never met you, I am honored to have been touched by you. The
world is a better place for having had you in it. My life is richer for having
heard your song.
Thanks again ~
Hollis Clanton
I don't even know how to begin to express the sadness and sense of loss I feel.
A loss for everyone who loved Dan's music. He's life & music were a gift to us all and he will be dearly missed. My sincerest sympathy to his wife and family.
I enjoyed Dan's music. May he rest in peace now. ~ Dave Heller, Palatine IL
Dear Jean, I know only too well the pain of losing a loved one. I lost my 6 year old
daughter Shannon this year after a 5 year battle with acute lymphoblastic
leukemia. My faith is what sustains me. At hearing the news of Dan's
passing, I find myself crying as though I've lost family. I have been a fan
of Dan's since he first arrived on the music scene. I've been fortunate to
hear him in concert several times. He has always been and will continue to
be my favorite singer and songwriter. I will add you and your family to my
prayers. I believe that Dan will be singing to my daughter Shannon in
heaven.
My heartfelt condolences ~
Gayle Froio
I cannot express the depth of my sadness. The world has

It is amazing to me that the
news of Dan's death literally sat me down, and brought a rush of
tears that I had not expected. Whether he knew it or not - his music
spoke volumes about all of our lives, and I feel

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Dan Fogelberg. While I have many
songs that I call my favorite I can honestly write this and tell you "My
All Time Favorite Song" is "Same Old Lang Syne". There is a girl back in
Missouri that I think of every time I hear this song. She is a very
special lady. His music touched me in so many ways. My prayers are with
Mr. Fogelberg and his family. God blessed you and he will continue to
bless you. ~
Steve Lane,
Arlington, Texas
I’m so sorry… the world has lost another great musician before his time. Dan’s music truly touched my heart; it was like every song released was mirror of my life and what I was going through at that time. I’ll pray for him and his loved ones. I’ll also pull out my guitar and play his songs in his memory. God bless you and keep you my friend. ~
Harry
I've cried more over Dan's passing than I did when Lennon died, and I'm not
ashamed to say that. The soundtrack of my life would not be what it is
without Dan's music...and I don't think my LIFE would have been what it's
been without his art. Seriously. My heart is broken. God's peace to Jean
and the family...you are in my prayers! ~ Penny, Elizabeth, Colorado
My deepest condolences to Dan Fogelberg's loved ones. I grew up with his
beautiful music--so unique and full of feeling. ~
Melinda White,

I want to pass along my sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Fogelberg.
I live in northern Minnesota, along the Canadian border, and next to the
Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness [BWCAW]. I am blessed to have nature in
the wild at my finger tips. I have always felt Mr. Fogelberg's connection with
nature, and his natural wonder about life, and our relationship to the
Creator, within his music. I listen to his recordings often, and reflect upon
life myself through music. As a songwriter, I could feel the way he carried
himself forward in exploration of his path in life....now it is ended for his
physical life. But music is the basic math of the universe, and Dan was a
master at it. I have gone out into the forest here [there is a special place I
keep on my property], and I put up a prayer tie in his honor, and lit the
sacred fire in his name. I have smudged the area down with sage and sweet grass,
and will keep the fire burning for seven days.
It is said, that for each step we take, how we take them affects the next
seven generations..... Dan Fogelberg has done that with kindness and grace
through his music. May the Creator find his soul in great favor, and his
spirit take to the four winds in everlasting peace.
Goodbye Dan Fogelberg, you will always be
remembered. ~
Barry W. Tungseth,
Ely, Minnesota
Dan,Your music , your voice , and your lyrics were (are) greatly valued by all . Now you are singing with the greatest choir ever assembled.God Bless you and your family. ~ Tom Mangano, Duluth , Georgia
His message says everything. He will be missed very much by all of us. ~ Mary M. Williams
Heartbroken,heartbroken....rest in peace ~ Anne D. Mass.
We discovered Dan when he released Nether Lands. For my family, Dan
Fogelberg's music is an integral a part of our lives as each other.
While saddened with the news of his passing, I'll choose to remember the
countless wonderful memories associated with his music - particularly
his concerts. A priceless night at the Kennedy Center in the late 70's
. . . and man, the dude could rock! Rest well, Dan! "Let it shine!" ~
Brian
My heart is full of sorrow. I'm crying.
Addio amico e grazie di tutto. Riposa in pace. ~
Andrea.
A lump in my throat....and such fond memories flashing through my mind....from Home Free to Full Circle. How ironic are the titles of your first and last albums. Your music and soul will remain a beating part of my life. You shaped my 20's and delight me in my 50's. Sing with the angels...we will hear you. ~ Janet from San Francisco
Dear Jean,
I logged on this morning to check email and saw the email from
thelivinglegacy.net. As the tears streamed down my cheeks, I could hear "Leader of the Band" playing in my head. I am so sad today; for you,
your family, and for all of us who never actually met Dan but loved him
for the music and poetry that he shared with us. After I logged off my
computer, I got into my car to take my kids to school. I turned the
radio on only to hear that sweet familiar voice; they were playing Dan's "Same Old Lang Syne."
I send my deepest sympathies to you and your family. Dan's music will
live forever in all of us.
With love ~
Shelby
The first Christmas CD I pull out every season is by none other than Dan Fogelberg -- "The First Christmas Morning." After all these years since my
college days in the late 70's, I remain a fan and am saddened by the news of
Dan's death. May the Lord of that First Christmas Morning bring peace to you,
his friends and family; may it bring you comfort to know he is now in the
presence of Christ, the King. Blessings to you all. ~ Ada, Michigan
Kathy and I are so deeply saddened at the passing of Dan. He and his music have been intertwined in our lives since Kathy and I met in 1976 and she introduced me to this wonderful songwriter and person. Our sincere condolences to Jean and the family at this difficult time. His music will live on in our hearts forever. Godspeed Dan.
Sincerely ~
Mike and Kathy
My thoughts and prayers go out to Dan's family. The world has lost a wonderful singer and songwriter. His work will live on and touch the lives of many for years to come. You will be missed and loved by us all. ~ Sylvia Stovall Myrtle Beach, SC
Hi -
I was playing Dan's four disc box set Saturday night, before we traveled through a storm to a Christmas party. I always felt emotional listening to the songs, and this night was no exception. I only saw Dan once in concert, but it was memorable. I am so sorry for your loss Jean. I never met Dan but I will miss him.
Kind regards ~
Dr David McLachlan
We send our heartfelt condolences to Dan's family and close friends. His music and lyrics brought a thoughtful sense of joy and life affirmation to our lives when we first met thirty years ago and continue to reach a special part of our being to this day. Blessings to all who have listened to and loved his music and shared his passion for life. Thanks for all that he contributed to this world. Peace ~ Peter and Lydia Myers
A great musical genius has left us. He was a tremendous influence and
inspiration to me. As a father, "Leader of the Band" is one of the most
beautiful songs ever written. "Longer" was Lisa and my wedding song.
Dan will always be in our hearts.
The loss of Dan Fogelberg (and, his incredible musical talent) is
stunning. I have most of his albums and have listened to and enjoyed
his music tremendously for 30 years. I was always amazed by his songs
and how he seemed to put words to my own feelings as I aged and went
through many rough times. His music was inspiring, consoling, and
encouraging. He will truly be missed as there are very few artists
anymore like Dan! Thanks to his family for the wonderful contributions
Dan made to music.
All the best ~

Hi Dan,
I'm so terribly sad and nothing can express the way I feel now!!! Thank you so much for
your music, your lyrics, your thoughts and inspiration. Your fight against this crucial
disease is a role model for all people suffering from cancer. Rest in peace - and thank
you so much!!! ~

Dear Jean,
I fell compelled to write to you and express my sorrow at what you have and
will continue to go through. I always loved Dan's music. So much of it seemed
to speak right to my heart and it felt at times so personal. I'm sure you've
heard this many times -- that was his gift.
My husband was born and raised in Illinois, went to college in Peoria, and
died young of cancer in 2001 at the age of 48. We moved to Colorado in 1990
(right down hwy. from Estes Park). We too, were in love with the landscape in
that part of Colorado. He died in Longmont, Colorado. So I discovered in Dan's
biography some things that were common to my life with my husband.
Dan's song, "The Leader of the Band" always reminded me of my own dad. His "Same Old Lang Syne" was so like an experience I had with my old college
boyfriend. So, his music always felt so deep and so personal. What a blessing he was
to the world.
I would like to say to Jean, as one young widow to another -- that it does
get better in time. Take care of yourself and don't be afraid to ask for help
and cry, cry, cry. My heart goes out to you in a special way. I am a praying,
Christian woman, and I will be praying for you. God bless you and all the people
in your family who are suffering this tremendous loss.
I could not let this day pass by without
expressing some condolences for the family of Dan
Fogelberg. Being a woman who loves and cherishes
music and all that it has to offer in this often
troubling world, I am so appreciative of Dan's great
contribution to this world. His songs were both
lyrically and instrumentally beautiful and I cannot
even begin to express how the love of his music has
affected me throughout my life. My husband and
myself, both musicians and always striving to emulate
his great insight and talent, once read a comment
written by Dan who said that a critic once called
his music too victorian. Our thought was that that is
what makes his music so unique, flowing, and
absolutely wonderful. I will miss his music immensely
and treasure that which he has left behind.
My sincerest condolences ~ Robin Gerber
My sincere condolence to Jean and Dan's family. I lost my brother to the same thing at that exact age.
Dan's music kept my brothers and I entertained for years and still today I listen to his music and remember the good old days, when I played for the Many Roads Band from Barnesville, Ohio. We covered the songs like "The Last Nail" "Old Tennessee", "Captured Angel" and the best one "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler" I know them all by heart. We will certainly miss having him in this world with us. He will live in my heart forever.
God Bless Jean and his Family. ~

Dan was the voice of my generation. I can't think of my college days without
remembering his songs. We were so lucky to have had his talent. My condolences
to Jean, his family and friends. ~

My sincere sympathy for Dan's wife and family. Cancer took the life of
my soul mate of almost 26 years 2 1/2 months ago. One of the many
wonderful things she had brought to our life together was the gift of Dan
Fogelberg's music. She was a huge fan and had all of his tapes and CD's.
We also went to see him every time he played at the theatre out here in
Long Island. Such a loss, both of them - she was only 49, too young as
well.
No one will forget Dan or his music. ~
Joanne
We are so sad to hear of Dan's passing. His words and music will forever live in our hearts and memories. We are lucky that all we have to do is close our eyes and see and hear him. We both feel as though we have lost a good friend who shared so much of himself with all of us.
God bless all who loved him, especially his family! We are truly sorry. We'll always cherish your memory, Dan! xo ~ Donna and Ray, California, USA
Throughout the years since my college days in the '70's I have listened
and learned lots of Dan's songs. The various groups I have been in, the
acoustic ones-my favorite of all, have sat down and harmonized for
hours. I have seen Dan in concert three times, one of them just an
acoustical evening with Dan Fogelberg in Minnesota. During that concert, he had to start the song "Longer" three or four times because he
just didn't have it quite right in HIS mind. That brought out the human
side of him which drew all of us in music so much closer to reality. My
sister, who passed away almost 4 years ago from cancer, played his songs, we performed his songs at parties and get togethers, and cried
together at concerts in the past.
I thank him for the creativity that I will never, ever forget. He was
only 2 months older than I am now. So, I relate so much where he was in
his life. I thank you Dan Fogelberg for (kind of) knowing you through
your songs, through your words, that aloud us to get into your mind.
What an awesome person you were, and will be in my mind. ~

As a Puerto Rican woman who grew up listening to salsa, Dan was one of a
handful of "Anglo" musician who touched my soul with his music. He
will be truly missed. Dan, the world is a better place because of the
music you left us all.
God love you always. ~
Sylvia Garcia
We were together through the years. Thanks for your words that helped me
along the way. ~
Nancy
Thank you Dan, for sharing your blessings with us during your time on earth. Your words and music will be alive in my heart forever. God speed. ~ Jenny
Just heard about the passing of Dan Fogelberg. He has been well known even
here in the northern parts of Germany.
A true singer-songwriter. I will light a candle this evening and listen to
his old records in my collection. ~
