Many years ago a friend of mine introduced me to a little known singer
songwriter by the name of Dan Fogelberg. To say the least I was awestruck
with not only the quality of performance that I heard but the ultimate skill
in which the lyrics weave their story line. I would be hard pressed to tell
you which song was my favorite because everyone was. "Leader of the Band" will
always be your legacy, but "Nexus","Windows and Walls", and "The Reach" will
always be in my mind. As I hone my skills as a songwriter I think "what
would Dan do here", how do I tell that story like Dan would, and so on. In
my mind I know that the world has lost a true songwriter, poet, and
performer. God speed to your soul and my condolences to all who knew and
loved you. ~
Jim S
Dan, I grew up in Maine with your music on the radio and as an adult hearing
your songs brought me right back to a better time for the world. Thank you
and god bless. ~
Kerry L. Clift
I cannot express how sad I am to hear of Dan's passing. However, I am
comforted to know that he went peacefully and at home. My heart goes out to
Jean. I only knew him through his music, which has filled my life for so
many years, but I'm sure that he was also a wonderful husband and family
member. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to know and love his
music and I know his legacy will live on forever. My thoughts and prayers
are with Jean and the family.
With much love, ~
Michelle Knight
Dan's music has been a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. Listening to those songs never fails to bring me back to happy younger days and through them, I feel immersed in wonderful memories. We are all part of his legacy. Peace.
Dear Jean and Dan's family, I was so sorry to hear of your loss today. Dan will be sadly missed by many many people around the world who he never knew. Sincerely ~ Glenn M.- a fan since his first hit record came out when I was just a boy.
To Dan's family, friends and music lovers everywhere;
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of such a great music legend. My
all-time favorite song by Dan is
"Same Old Lang Syne." I remember buying the 2-LP set back in 1982 just for
that song. But then, I
grew to love the rest of the album and, subsequently, Dan's music. His song
"Leader of the Band" also holds a special place in my heart since I lost my
father at an early age.
He was indeed a legend who will be truly missed.
May God hold him and his family in the palm of His hand. ~
Bernie C.
Jean I am so sorry for your loss. I truly hope that God will fill you with
his peace and comfort in the years ahead. Be encouraged Jean.
His voice was truly a great gift that he shared willingly with us all. I
will miss him ~
James N. A. Lewis
I sang with Dan at the Red Herring at the U of I back in 1970. He even
taught me a little ditty called "Looking for a Lady" on which I put a
harmony for his demo. For such a talented guy he was a humble sort and I am
sorry to see him go.
God bless to his family who are fortunate to been left such a wonderful
legacy. And to all of you guys in our age range, please, please...get that
prostate checked. ~
Nancy Spratlin Nelson
Our sincere condolences to the family. We were very saddened to hear of
your loss. Rarely a week goes by that my wife and I don't listen to
something from Innocent Age, Souvenirs, or Windows and Walls. Great
music from a very talented man. We will remember Dan fondly, and will
probably come to appreciate him even more as we listen again to a
wonderful collection of beautiful songs. We will keep you in our
thoughts and prayers. ~ John and Rhonda Todd - Frankfort Illinois.
Dan you had a wonderful gift from God. I bet you're praising Him now with
all that is in you. I fell in love with your songs that went beyond the
physical world to my spiritual man. I listed to hundreds of hours of your
music over the last 30 years. You were so strong on my mind yesterday and
today and then I heard the news. I will always picture you on stage at
Pine Knob. It was the best concert of my life. Can't wait the see you
again. ~ Bruce Clark - Holland, MI
Dan,
I have always loved your music. It always brought me a depth of feeling that
other artists could never give me. My wife and I were just listening
recently to your Greatest Hits CD while painting inside our house. It brought back
wonderful memories of when we were both in high school and college.
And on New Year's Eve we will be listening to your "Same Old Lang Syne" and
thinking about the year just passed.
Thank you Dan for your life and your music. You will not be forgotten.
Dan, I lost my father, a cabinetmaker by trade, to cancer almost three years
ago. So, naturally "Leader of the Band" struck a chord with me, and is with
me every day. I thank you for all of your music, and for sharing your spirit
and your music with us. We are better for you having been with us, and I want
you to know that, through your music, you will always be. Your legacy is
forever a part of us, and is truly a gift that we never can repay. Thank you. Rest
in peace. ~Ted Adams
I cannot stop the tears right now. A part of my heart
has been taken from me. I grew up with your music,
dear Dan. We played "Heart Hotels" in the folk group
in high school. I played and sang "Longer" at my
sister's wedding in 1980. I cry every time I hear
"Leader of the Band," thinking of my dear father (now
95) who has given my sister and I the gift of music by
provided lessons, instruments, support and
encouragement.
I have played the harp for many years and "Paris
Nocturne" and "Twins Theme" are some of my favorite
pieces to play.
It is amazing how much your music is woven into the
fabric of the lives of so many people. You will be
terribly missed and lovingly remembered.
I will play my harp for you and for Jean as you both
journey on.
Safe home, dear Dan. ~
Betsy A. Paine
I treasure the music you wrote and listen to it on a daily basis. The comfort you
provided me shall be returned as you dance with the angels and sing to the skies. ~
Linda Balas
Many a man and so few the hours of birth.... always singing.
Although I never met Dan Fogelberg personally his voice and words have been
with me and helped me through many days, good and bad. The world has lost a
beautiful person and an incredible talent. My thoughts today are with his
family. ~
Joni Coons
I wish you peace the same peace you gave all of us. I never knew you but your
music will be with me forever in my heart
and in my thoughts. Rest in peace Dan, May God bless. ~ Wayne
I'm so saddened by the news of Dan's death. The world now has one less
extraordinary human being. But he will live on in his wonderful gift of the
timeless music he gave us. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family,
and to all the fans, who like myself feel a little less whole. ~ Jeanette Williams Housecamp
It was with deep sadness that I read of the passing of Mr. Fogelberg. My deepest condolences to Mrs. Fogelberg, and his entire family. If there's a Rock and Roll heaven, you know he's the "Leader of the Band" ~ Debbie - Owasso, OK
Dan,
Through your words and music you continue to touch us. God bless you and
give you peace.
I was watching CNN at lunchtime and happen to see the cold words running across
the bottom, indicating that Dan had passed away.
I have loved Dan and his music even before I met my wife Karen back in 1979. Together, we had a three way love affair between us and Dan and his music and words, and will forever We got to see Dan in a solo performance at BYU back in 1980. "Nether Lands" never sounded so good as he performed it on solo piano. Please accept our deepest sorrow for your loss, Jean, and to all of Dan's family. As Dan put it, dying (like living) is "part of the plan". ~ Ron and Karen Lowell
This world has lost a man with the voice of an angel and the soul of the
ages. I am so honored to have been at his concert in Charleston, SC several
years back and I will remember it forever. Thank you Dan and may you Rest in
Peace. You will live in my heart and the hearts of all your fans. All my respect and love ~ Sharon in AL.
I just heard the news today; couldn't believe how Dan's death affected me,
but I'm not surprised. I'm 47 and still remember one of the first songs of his
I fell in love with: "To The Morning." I can still recall dancing in the
evening, in my backyard to that splendid piece. Also "Stars" and "Wysteria." So
touching, so stirring, from such a romantic soul and stout hearted poet. What a
shame to have to leave at such a young age, but his legacy will live on in all
the hearts he has touched, and now with his sage wisdom which hopefully many
men will heed. Just another reminder to enjoy every shining moment. Thanks
for being part of my plan, Dan; you're a special man.
Thank You ,Dan, for sharing your beautiful soul with us. Your words will be
with me for "all of the days of my life..." ~
Mary Ann Huffman - Niles,Ohio
Just would like to send my thoughts and prayers to the family. There are not too many people that can really touch lives without ever touching. The songs have always touched my heart and always will. ~
Carolyn in Missouri
My heart is broken. I loved Dan since I was in high school; the night
Nether Lands was released. I cannot describe how many times Dan's music has
given me comfort. Seeing Dan in concert was the highlight of my youth, and
I will carry those memories forever. I look forward to seeing him, and
hearing him sing in Heaven. So many are benefiting from hearing him now.
With prayers for all his family and friends ~
Victoria Leonard -
Valencia, California
I can't even begin to convey the sadness I felt upon hearing this. My
best wishes and prayers are with you. His music touched many, I am
only one. ~
Heather T. Eddy
[This is a message I sent today about Dan's passing, to the two daughters I single-parented]:
I'm a tough man, but this news actually has me tearing up, I feel it personally. It brings back a very difficult and confusing time of my life; surprisingly a lot of intense memories are rushing at me right now;and also because he was a bit younger than I; and because your great grandfather died of the same thing. (yes, I got tested two years ago for that very reason).
His lyrics were so insightful and full of stories we all could relate to.
You girls will remember, my playing the album Nether Lands over and over;that title song especially held real personal meaning to me.
That song has a "big" sound, grand and complex instrumentally, but it is the words that were stating my feelings then, and maybe now, too:
Thanks, Dan. ~
Gary
Jean,
I'm so sorry for your loss. But how great to have been able to know, live with and to love such a Heavenly voice. I will always listen to his music. ~
Norma
I'm a little older than Dan and I cannot forget "Part of the Plan", from way back. I think of this artist/poet with fondness and pray for his family.
Words cannot express the loss we feel. It is so hard to imagine a time in my life when Dan Fogelberg's music wasn't interweaved into the background of my life. I found such comfort and inspiration in his music. I am so sad to lose such a gifted artist and will cherish the wonderful memories of the concerts I was so fortunate to be able to attend. His music and gentle spirit will continue to touch many lives in the years to come. My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and Dan's family during this difficult time. God Bless. ~ Robin Ricci - Fairfax, VA
I am so saddened at Dan's death. Even though I never knew him personally, I feel like I've lost a close friend. I sat on a plane this morning as the sun was coming up, listening to "To The Morning"; then as the plane flew over snowy Colorado, "Nether Lands". I sang "Leader of the Band" to my own Dad a few days before he passed away back in 2000. I've had many "moments" like these throughout my life with Dan's music. Many hundreds, maybe thousands, of hours of my life have been spent listening to and trying to play Dan Fogelberg songs. To Jean and family: I pray that your life continues to be enriched by the gifts that Dan was given, that he crafted so skillfully and gave to so many, and that any bitter taste of these sad days would turn to sweetness as the time passes. So many pass on from this life with their music still in them. Dan passed on with his music in so many. ~
Tony Zapico - Riverside, CA
Family of Dan Fogelberg,
When I heard the news of Dan’s passing today I had to sit and catch my
breath. His music has been such a gift for so many years and will
always live on with me. My sincere thoughts & prayers are with all of
you who loved Dan. He will truly be missed. ~
Teri from Colorado
Hello,
I was greatly saddened to hear of Dan Fogelberg's recent passing. I
grew up in the 1970's and will always remember him for his wonderful,
moving music, as well as for his never-ending dedication to the goal
of peace in our world.
Just this morning I listened to "Same Old Lang Syne" on a local radio
station. That song, which always touched me deeply, will never be the
same again. Rest in peace, Mr. Fogelberg. You will always be the greatest legacy to the "Leader of the Band."
Sincerely ~
Patrick Craig -
Dayton, Ohio
God bless your family through this difficult time. "Same Old Lang Syne" has
always been a favorite all-time song for me. Thank you for sharing the
gift of your musical talents with us. It definitely was a treasure. ~ Diana Flinn - Minooka, Illinois
Wow, I just found out that Dan Fogelberg passed away. I am officially depressed. Many
of his songs resonated with my inner being. At one time, I had memorized every lyric to
"Same Old Lang Syne" because it was so fitting to my life. People like Dan deserve to live
very long lives. We will always have his music, but it will be somewhat hollow, as is
John Lennon's. My condolences to his family. Take heart in that he was very much loved
and appreciated by millions of people.
For me, the snow has turned into rain. ~
Jim Christensen
When I was 18 I began a journey on the road as a drummer and vocalist. I
felt a bit lost at times, but Dan’s music was a source of inspiration for
me. I was blessed to see him in concert in Orlando once. He was awesome. And
my life has been enriched by his wonderful music and now his testimony
through his courage with the illness that claimed his life. Thanks Dan and
to his family and wife for sharing him with us. I will miss him. May God’s
peace be with you. ~ Jeff
There isn't a day that I don't listen to or hum one of his songs, what else
can I say ~ Greg K -

Thank you Dan Fogelberg for sharing your gift of music with the world. Your
song "Same Old Lang Syne" takes on even more meaning now. You will never be
forgotten. May our Heavenly Father bless your family during this difficult
time. With love and prayers, ~ Marilyn
Much sympathy to family of Dan Fogelberg. I am deeply saddened by his death and he will live on in the memory of many as a wonderful talent. I have every album and have been a fan for years. Rest in peace gentle prince.
Your words will live on in our hearts forever.
To Jean, your loving wife; thanks for sharing Dan with us.
May his love endure and bring you peace as well. ~

I am truly sad to hear of Dan's passing. His music was wonderful and his song "Longer" will live forever as well as all of his wonderful music. Today is my birthday, and I will always remember a great voice and songwriter left us on my birthday. God bless his family and all his friends. ~ Lloyd H - Houston,Texas
Truly fortunate is the individual who touches so many in so many ways. And
fortunate are we to have shared in his gift. Thanks so much for your gifts
yesterday, today, and tomorrow. ~
J. Kochan, Vanua Levu, Fiji
Dan, you are truly a "living legacy." You are so loved, loved for your life, and loved
even in death.
Thank you for your gifts of song and poetry. You will never be forgotten. ~
Susan
Dan, I saw you many times in concert, your music moved me and an entire
generation. I had tickets for your concert in Atlanta which was cancelled due to
your illness. I couldn't wait for your return..You will be missed greatly. I
only hope that PBS airs your last Sound stage performance soon - Roger F.
I was not aware that Dan was as sick and his passing has come as a sad shock
to me. His music brought us such unique enjoyment and he will be sorely
missed. My condolences go out to his family. ~
Frank Goldfarb -Asheville, NC.
I saw Dan Fogelberg in concert when I was a student at UC Berkeley in 1976. It
seemed then like almost
everyone was into disco which I could not stand. Dan's music was some of the very most beautiful I have
ever heard. His songs enhanced many days of my life and I feel profoundly sad today. Still I am so glad he
was here during his too-short time because he sure helped brighten this world.
Best wishes and deep condolences to his wife and family. ~
Carol Kennon -

I have never heard the song "Leader of the Band" without weeping. 'nuf
said, my man. Thank you.
Farewell Dan, too soon: Through you the hearts of millions have been
touched in a positive way and will be passed on somehow within the love and good
feelings people have for each other. "Along The Road" became my son's Bar
Mitzvah song because there was no better way to describe my feelings than
through your simple and insightful presentation of a boy becoming a man. 20 years
later, I used "Forefathers" in a video to highlight family history when my
youngest daughter married into a British/Dutch family. The irony? It was my son that suggested it. And so it goes; "along the road, the torch was passed
from hand to hand". I treasure the times I was able to share in the live
performances, the first (with Eagles) in Philadelphia back in the early 70's
when Souvenirs was fresh. It seemed like only yesterday. Your music is now
for the ages. Rest in peace knowing that those beautiful gifts left behind
will forever be interwoven within the soul of mankind. Few who have walked
this earth can claim such a legacy. ~
Harry Liebergot
"There is no Eden or Heavenly gates;
That you're gonna make it to one day ;
But all of the answers you seek can be found;
In the dreams that you dream on the way." Rest in peace, Dan. ~
Mary - Half Moon Bay, CA
So very sorry to learn of Dan's passing. When I first met my now husband, I wasn't sure if we were right for each other, but then I learned that he was a huge fan of Dan Fogelberg. Once I learned this aspect of his personality, I knew that he was the man for me, and we've been together for 15 good years.
I knew that anyone who could appreciate the sensitivity and sheer beauty of Mr. Fogelberg's songs, was at heart a very good person, and this litmus test proved very valid.
May the passing of time ease your pain.
Warm Regards ~
Laurie - Bellingham, WA
Yesterday I was thinking of Dan and wondering how he was doing. Than today I get an email from my sister asking me,
"Did you hear?" I was heartbroken. Dan has been my favorite singer since I first heard him years ago. What a great musician, entertainer and poet he was. Dan will not be forgotten as he left a great legacy in his words and music. My heart goes out to his family and friends. May it help to know that he is no longer suffering and that there are people all over the world who are keeping you in their thoughts and prayers. ~ Marla -Iowa
It is such a very sad day. My teenage bedroom had every single album this wonderful man ever made. They were played over and over and over. Such a peaceful voice to listen to. He has touched so many people, and now he walks in the everlasting reward. I'm sorry for his suffering, and the suffering that his beautiful wife and loved ones are going through now. I will forever be grateful for the gift that he has given each of us. May God's blessings be on all of you. ~ Carol - Kansas
As is common with many of Dan's fans, Dan was a part of my life for decades. He was there for those early mornings before school (there is no better way to wake up than with "To the Morning"), my marriage, the birth of my kids, and for many other happy/sad moments. He served as an anchor when I needed grounding, as well as the serenity needed in troubled times. His lyrics and music spoke to my soul, and will continue to do so until my last breath.
Dan, you will be missed, but fondly remembered by many. Love to your family, and thanks for all of the good times. ~
Dorothy A. Vesterman
You are a "living legacy" to music, Dan. Rest in peace. And my condolences to your wife and family. ~ Natalie
I was so sorry to hear of Dan's passing, I know that he fought a hell of a
fight. Jean and family, I wish you strength and peace during this very
difficult time. Dan was such a beautiful man both inside and out, and we are all
better people for having been touched by his beautiful lyrics and voice.
Heaven just got a little sweeter. Thank you Dan, God Bless. ~
Laura Z - Chicago
My deepest sympathies to Dan's wife Jean and his family, I grew up to his music and my 3 sisters and I listened to him faithfully. I saw him once in concert and he was awesome you hung on his every word. He truly was an amazing musician and by reading the condolences he touched many lives. He has completed his journey here and has moved on to heaven to sing with the angels. Sincerely ~ Janet V.
I just found out about this and am typing this through my tears. My thoughts go out to the family. Knowing what it is like to lose someone to cancer, it is hard to see someone you love suffer from it. Like the generation before mine, the day Dan left this world was like when the world lost Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper. But the music of this wonderful man will live in us all forever. "Longer" was our wedding song and even before I met my husband, I knew this song had to be in my wedding. Thank you for your songs. They have always touched my soul and will always have a special place in my heart. ~ Amy - Washington State
Jean, my heart is broken for you. To have to say goodbye to the love of your
life is the hardest thing you will ever do. We know that you can find comfort in
the fact that Dan is no longer in pain, though your pain we will share with you,
cannot compare to the pain you feel in you heart now. We all pray that you find
strength in his love and know that he is now your Guardian Angel. Dan, you meant
so much to me in my life with your profound words and music. At this moment "the
snow turned to rain" and HEAVEN has now captured an angel. We love you Dan
and we know you are looking upon all of us now. We love you ~ The Sparks Family
I didn't realize it until this moment, but my life is better for having heard your music. Thank you so much Dan, and may God bless and keep you and your wife, Jean. ~ Tim
It was truly heartbreaking to learn of Dan's passing. My thoughts and
prayers go out to his friends and family. The world is a much better
place because of Dan's time here. His music touched the hearts and
souls of so many. Many of my fondest memories are attached to Dan's
songs, most notably, on my wedding day. I walked down the aisle to
"Longer", a song far more meaningful than "Here Comes the Bride". I
know Dan is up in heaven now watching over us all and smiling.
Dan and his music will be missed very much. Jean you and your family will be in our prayers. ~ Melanie from Indiana.

" And here is a sunrise
To set on your sill;
The ghosts of the dawn moving near;
They pass through your sorrow
and leave you quite still;
Sitting among souvenirs."
I'm just so sad. Thanks for my Souvenirs. Today I listen and cry. Godspeed, precious Dan. Jean, may God give you peace and strength at this difficult time.
When I was 41 I saw him in person in Aspen in a very intimate setting. There were only 75 seats in the tent and almost all were taken. I was so lucky to be close to the front and just a bit to the side, in his direct line of vision. He played "To the Morning" and I lost it. That was the first thing my mom had responded to after her brain surgery. I tried to pull myself together when I realized he could see me but I failed. After the show I was told that he was moved by my reaction and was asked why. I told him why and he asked to talk to me. He is the only human being I have ever been star-struck by and just couldn't do it. To this day and especially now, I regret my timidity. I couldn't tell him that his music kept me literally alive on more than one tragedy. How do I thank someone for that and not seem a crank. Thank you and Spirit hold you always.
To the Fogelberg Family,
I had the great honor and pleasure of being in the audience and hearing Dan perform in a
club in Nashville, Tennessee in the mid-70's. I can not express in words the impact that
his performance, and music made on me that night, and throughout my life. I must tell you
that as I was closing the door to my media/music studio late Friday night, Dan flashed
through my mind. I think I even spoke his name out loud. I have lived in the Pacific
Northwest for many years now, and might have felt his impending passage into the Light
because it correlates to the time I was thinking of him. My deepest sympathy goes out to
his wife and family; God Bless them, and give them strength during this difficult time.
HIs soul is released from all pain, and please be assured that his artistry's universal
power is Eternal. ~

It was a pleasure knowing you Dr. Dan
I am deeply saddened by the death of Dan Fogelberg. His life was cut way too short. I saw Dan Fogelberg many times at Red Rocks outside of Denver and at other venues as well. His concerts were always incredible, extremely moving; just pure magic. He will always live on through his music and the legacy he left behind. I became more aware of the environment through his lyrics. I "know" he was a good and beautiful soul. I will miss seeing and hearing him.
A fan of 30 years ~
Joie Dennis
My deepest sympathy. His music and lyrics will forever live. I wish you strength, Jean. May you be comforted by the many wonderful memories you have of your loving husband. God bless. ~

Well, another one on his trip to the sky. We all will miss him
You can tell how great a man is when people think of you fondly upon your passing and have a smile on their face thinking of the good feelings you brought into their lives. No amount of fame or money could ever replace a legacy such as that. "The Long Way" has been going through my head all day at work today. It wasn't until I got home and opened the paper that I learned of your passing. Thank you for that gift today. It will be treasured. Until we meet again.
So sad to see Dan passed away, someone who made such an impact with his
music and his storytelling. What a loss for us, his fans. I always
wonder why the great, the talented, the good ones die early. But we
know there is heaven where Dan is. My deepest sympathy to the family. ~ Sherrie
I am very sad to learn that one of my all time favorite musicians has passed away. I have so many memories of my young adult life connected to his music. My prayers are with Dan and all who knew and loved him for the deep and beautiful man I am sure he was.

always have the music, though it won't be quite the same. "All of the answers

After reading all the condolences on the site, it is obvious that Dan was much beloved. Although we didn't know him personally, we felt we did thru his wonderful music. I myself am named Dan and was once a folk/rock balladeer who played the local circuit. It's been awhile since I took up the guitar since I lost the music, but hearing of Dan's passing not only greatly saddened me but also has given me a renewed sense of purpose. I took up the guitar yesterday and played some of my favorites of Dan's. My fingers hurt unlike anything before but it was worth it. Tomorrow I hope to continue my journey back from the wasteland. Thanks Dan for giving me the inspiration. ~
Dan Richardson -

Thank you Dan, for the gift of your music and the poetry of your lyrics. Like so many
others who have written, I feel as though I have lost an old friend rather than someone I
never met. Perhaps one day we will meet on the other side, and you can teach me a few
chords. Godspeed. ~ Carl in PA
Mrs. Fogelberg, Our hearts and prayers go to you and your family, I wish for you to have peace. I can only hope he knew how much his music touched and changed lives. Dan Fogelberg was truly a one of a kind musician and his gift with words was astounding. This news saddens my day.
Men of Dan's talent are rare indeed and he will be greatly missed. I look around at the young artists today and wonder who is my daughter supposed to look up to. It reminds me just how blessed my generation truly is. ~

Thank you. Your music has been such a large part of my life.
I saw Dan perform twice, in Syracuse, NY. I will treasure those concerts and
how I felt sitting there watching a musician that had touched my life in more
ways than I could count. Blessings to his family. ~ Sue
The "Leader of the Band" is gone, how sad. You brought me much joy with your
music.
Now you will be the "Leader of the Band" in heaven. Thank you so much. God
bless you.
Jean and family,
I was greatly saddened to hear of Dan's untimely passing. I was not even aware that he was sick. I first heard Dan's music as a freshman in college in 1977. The guys in the room next to me played Nether Lands non-stop. While I was really looking for a disco alternative, Dan was not exactly to my wilder tastes then. At least not that I admitted to publicly. I bought Nether Lands, and then Souvenirs, Home Free, Phoenix and The Innocent Age, and I still love his music. I still think of my first wife when I hear "Lessons Learned" from Nether Lands, as it was our song. His music was like that, more so than any other artist that I can recall; one associates his music with a particular event in time. I hope you and your family are at peace. Your husband was well loved by many many people and his music will live on. ~ Mark Henderson - Mt. Juliet, TN
His songs will always be a part of me.
The world is a little less for his passing but we have grown more for having
him here for the moment ~ Paul in NY
I cannot tell you how sad I am to hear of the passing of Dan. He has been a huge part of my life since I first heard his album Nether Lands. I listened to him in good times and bad times and listening to his music got me through a lot of tough times in my life. I am proud to say I own every one of his albums and would be hard pressed to tell you my favorite. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you through these difficult days. I hope listening to his music in the future will help you as it has helped me in the past. God bless all of you ~ Patti Berg
What can one say. You have inspired me for over 20 years with the lyrics in your
music. The world will be a much emptier place without you in it. As a teenager,
my father and I clashed to say the least. He bought me a Greatest Hits album and
I've been a huge fan ever since. It brought me and my father closer to share a
common love of your music.
Thank you. ~ Corinne
Sympathy & prayers to all Dan's family in this time of loss & sadness. We loved his music. ~ The Hillier family, Wabush, Newfoundland, Canada
God Bless Dan Fogelberg.
A friend of mine just told me of Dan's passing. He will be missed more
than I think I could ever express. He has given us all the lasting gift
of his music. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. ~

For Dan's Family and Friends,
His music touched me in so many ways. Through good times and sadness he was always there. I saw him many times in concert, the last at Red Rocks just Dan and piano/guitar. A memorable night. He shall be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Rest in peace, Dan. What beautiful music will now be heard in heaven. ~

We always loved Dan's music. He was just 3 years older than me which is hard to believe, but was huge on the musical radar. His songs had incredible passion. We will miss him so much. Our thoughts go out to his family as well. ~ CC
I will remember Dan for a gem of an LP called Home Free; an album that
speaks volumes to me and my own musical craft, now 30 years on. Today as I listen
to it, it feels like I've lost a friend, too.
My heartfelt condolences to Jean and family.
Peace. ~

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve for Dan. He was well loved
for his music and words. He has brought me thru many good times in my life
through his music. One of the first songs I learned to play on the piano was "Longer". To this day, more than 20 years later, I can still play that song and
nothing else in the world matters. Of all performers that have passed on before him, he is the one in my book who will be missed the most. I am involved in a car show each year in Salt Lake City, UT called Cruisin for a Cure. We raise money to help with prostate cancer awareness. For the last 2 years, we have had a motor home from the NPCF that has been doing checks on-site. We are proud to help the men of our community to get tested. And what better place than a car show. I was sad to hear that Dan has had to fight this horrible disease. Peace be with you. ~ Angi Christensen
My sister just gave me the news about Dan Fogelberg's passing, I am very sad. I'm a musician and composer and Dan Fogelberg's music was a great inspiration to me, especially when I was in college and graduate school.
I remember where I was and what I was wearing the first time I heard "Wisteria." It was also the first song of Dan's that I had heard. It remains one of my favorite songs of all time.
I will light a candle for Dan and burn it this week at my teaching studio. I will also hang up the album covers of all of his albums for my music students to see.
What a loss for the world. I will keep Dan's family in my heart and will always have Dan's music in my soul.
With deep sympathy, ~

Dan Fogelberg,
I was at our Barnes and Noble store on Friday looking for Home Free because I wanted to see if they had it on CD to replace an old cassette tape. I remember thinking that I needed to check his web site to see how he was doing. Two days later on our morning news program, I heard the news. I have had a profound sadness throughout this day. Dan Fogelberg had the soul of a poet. I remember the first time I heard his album and was mesmerized at his unique sound and the depth of the lyrics. The first concert I ever went to was in Austin, TX. and Dan was alone on stage with his guitar and piano, sipping beer from a mason jar. It was musical heaven. I am reassured that he is at peace now and playing in that heavenly chorus, but I think they will give him a solo now and then. And, I'm just a fan. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, family, and friends who were fortunate and blessed to know him personally. The world has lost a poet today. ~
