Dan Fogelberg 's Jean and family -
It is with a heavy heart that I write this. My husband and I always have enjoyed hearing Dan sing his beautiful songs. We are so sorry for your loss, Jean. Dan's music will live on in our hearts. May God bless you and your family. It is good that Dan is at peace. Rest well Dan! You will play beautiful music in Heaven!! Love from ky.
I just want to echo the thoughts and words so eloquently expressed here how Dan was such
a great talent that touched so many lives. I was recently thinking of him and wondering
how he was doing. He had been in my prayers and I guess God saw best to take away his
pain and bring him home.
We will all miss Dan very much. ~

I will always be grateful for the song "Leader of the Band". My dad was one and I recall trying to recite the lyrics to him one Christmas and could not without falling apart. The song itself is one of the most beautiful ever written.
Dan Fogelberg is so entrenched in my musical journey. Thank you Dan and his whole family. The music world would not be and will not be the same without you.
You're in God's hands now. ~
Randy Charles - Wisconsin Rapids, WI
Thanks Dan, you truly did give to all of us a gift we never can repay. ~ Jeff, Wisconsin
Fogelberg family, Thoughts of you in the "Nether Lands". You will be missed. ~

Dan and his music changed my life forever - we would lay on the floor and listen to the
first record over and over again - amazing.
I went on to have a career in music as a performer and teacher. Dan, we love you and you
are alive in our hearts and in the music of all the players you influenced.
Peace ~
Kevin
Dear Jean and Family,
We only met Dan once, at a Robinhood Marine Center gathering a few summers
ago, and he was so kind and friendly. We have a Cape Dory 45, the "Resolution," a big sister to the Robinhood 36, "Minstrel," which I know
brought Dan much joy. We also live in Southwestern Colorado and it was fun
many times to sail by the "Minstrel" along the coast of Maine and receive a
very friendly wave from Dan, who recognized us with our Durango, CO hailing
port.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time. We thank God for Dan's
creative talents and warm spirit.
Best wishes ~
Polly and Dan Morgenstern,
Durango, CO and Maine
My high school English teacher had us listen to "Part of the Plan" back in
the early 70s, and write our thoughts about it. After that I was truly a fan
and still am. He really touched a lot of people thru his music. He will
definitely be missed!!! ~ Brian Schultz, Bradenton, Florida
It was the early 70's the first time I heard Dan Fogelberg's music. It caught me and a warm and peaceful feeling surrounded me. The more I listened over the years the better I felt
about life and myself. This is a loss to the music world and to all the fans that heard the music as I did .
We love you and will miss you.
God bless you Dan. Bless the Fogelberg family in this time of grief. ~

Jean & Family, I am truly sorry for your loss as all of us are. Dan had a God given talent that we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy. I first got hear his music in Dec. of 1973 when I started dating this cute little brunette named Lisa. She turned me on to his music. She and I loved his music. June 6 this summer I lost Lisa to cancer. We were together almost 35 yrs. When I want to be close to her I'll put on Souvenirs, my favorite . From what I've read here there's lots of love coming your way. Memories will rush over you from time to time but they will help you to heal. Dan's music takes me back to my favorite times in my life with Lisa. May God comfort you in the days to come. With all my love & prayers ~ Jim Cole, Lake Wawasee, Syracuse Indiana
Thanks for all the wonderful music! We will miss
you.
R.I.P. ~

The world is blessed with the musical legacy Dan left all of us. May all of us find peace in the music he leaves behind. ~ Alise, Crossville, TN
To Dan's family and friends,
My deepest condolences to all of you over Dan's passing. As you mourn, I
encourage you to be there for one another, and to allow the healing power of music
to penetrate your soul. In my own times of personal loss, I have found music
to be the best therapy for getting in touch with my emotions, grieving, and
finding ultimate resolve and inner peace. In particular, many of Dan's songs
have touched me on a deep, personal level. I know I speak for so many
others with that claim.
God bless you, Dan. Thank you so much for all you have done. Rest in peace.
Again, my condolences, thoughts and prayers are with all of you. ~
Brian Togni

It is great sadness that I read of Dan's passing today. He and his
songs have been a true inspiration for me for many years and will
continue to be so in the years to come. My best friend, Lori and I saw
him in concert many times over the years and will always have the bond
of these memories. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and
friends. May he rest in peace. ~ Robin
May God be with you Jean, we know Dan is now with God and at peace. What a
wonderful talent and we were delighted to have seen him in concert here in

Dan, your music was a fond remembrance from my junior high years. "Same
Old Lang Syne" was one of my all time favorite songs and really helped to
define the 1970's for me.
Thank you for your talent and your willingness to share it with the
world. ~
Warren Ainley,

Dan,
Your beautiful music has made a profound impact on my life and some of the most important decisions I've ever made. The first time I ever heard "Nether Lands" I was struck by your words: "Once in a vision I came on some woods, and stood in a fork near the road, my choices were clear but I froze with the fear, of not knowing which way to go. One road was simple, acceptance of life, the other road offered sweet peace. When I made my decision, my vision became my release..." Because of you and your beautiful music, that has truly made all the difference. Surely heaven must be overflowing with the sweet bliss of your music tonight. You and your family are in my prayers. Peace ~
MJ
Dear Jean, I am very sorry for your loss. Dan's words affected so many of us over the years. Those words and the legacy of his songs will go on forever. ~ Paul Hraska,

I have to tell you that no one has had a beautiful gift in my eyes like Dan!

A true loss for music and for the world. As a fellow musician and guitarist
I was touched and inspired by Dan's music, lyrics, and his profound
musicianship. My sincere condolences to the Fogelberg family. We'll miss ya Dan. ~

Love your music and will continue to do so - listening to one of your songs
now. "Same Old Lang Syne" - always makes me think of a love I lost due to my
own foolishness - I tear up every time. Thank you for your life and music. God bless you and yours!
The news hit me this morning as I gazed through my window and out across the farm.
An earthly light was made eternal and now we see Dan
as one of the brighter stars through the fog across the fields, over the ocean, into the sky ...forever ~Kevin J. Stevens
Dan, as sad as your passing, your suffering is over. It is those who must continue to
live without your presence in their lives. Your heart and soul will live on forever. Your
memory and music will be with me forever. Thank you for coming into my life. ~ Dona
Oliveira, Dartmouth, MA
Dear Fogelberg Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Dan was and will continue to
always be my favorite singer. How I will miss him! His music was apart of my
early twenties and got me through many study hours while I was at college.
We will all miss him here in Colorado very much. Jean, I pray that our Lord Jesus will see you through this time of grief
as you slowly adjust to a new journey. May the peace and comfort of the
Lord be with you at this most difficult time.
A most amazing talent, a sensitive and gifted songwriter, and the voice of an angel.
Heaven has been blessed by his presence. We have lost much.
May peace be with his family at this time. ~ Ken and Janeal Hodges
I am deeply saddened by the loss of one of the greatest singer and songwriters of my lifetime. Dan's music has helped me to get through many of my own personal life challenges. My deepest sympathies to his wife and family. Dan and his father are now together leading the band up in heaven. ~ Dana Caswell
Dear Jean,I have never written to a musician's family before. Words cannot convey the sorrow, shock and sadness when I heard the news
today. Sending prayers for comfort and strength for you. Your husband's art has been with me since the 1970s when I was a lost
teenager, and
I have been listening still. Peace to you ~
Heidi
Dan,
I will not forget you...save a place in the concert halls of Heaven for
me.
Jean may God bless you and keep you in this your time of need. ~
Leonard Copeland
Another bright light was dimmed this weekend with Dan's passing. He was only a year younger than me. If there's anything to be gleaned from losing a great talent so young, it is this. We should celebrate every day we are here on earth. Celebrate life, celebrate love, celebrate gratitude, celebrate sadness, celebrate just being alive.......nothing should ever be taken for granted. I, like many others, was touched by Dan's amazing gift to communicate through music. and although he left us way too soon, his gift will remain with us for eternity. God bless. ~

It's a late Seville night and I'm listening to some of Dan´s music with a few glasses of wine and I'm still digesting the news from Maine that happened yesterday morning. I guess I thought he would get better and be around for years to come and give us more music, words and poetry. That's why this news is a shock. It's a very sad day for this humbled fan.
Since Christmas is here now "Same Old Lang Syne" will become all the more poignant. Christmas 2007 will be remembered. As I heard once before from an old wise man; "Only the good die young".
To all his immediate family you were with someone who gave millions pleasure in his art. That must be so comforting. What a legacy!
Good night Dan!! ~
Johnny Good, Seville, Spain.
It must be true, at least to some existent. The Good Die Young. Well in my eyes Dan, you were one of the Good Ones. I so enjoyed your music. It meant so much to my life in the Eighties and Nineties and today. The things you wrote are so POWERFUL! They hit home in my heart and in my soul. So "longer than there've been stars up In the heavens"... I've been in love with your music. My favorite line you wrote is in "Hard To Say" - "It's never easy and it's never clear, who's to navigate and who's to steer, so you flounder drifting ever near the rocks". Man that is so profound, yet so simple and even harder to see. You helped me see it. I've been married 20 years now and you have soothed my soul on many, many occasion. God used you Dan and I'm so glad he did.
Your biggest fan ~
Carl S Smith
You don't know me, but your loved one's music walked me through the halls of college and inspired me in my music and gave me great lyrics to sing as I sang in coffee houses, events, etc while I was at Rhodes College in the early 80's. I was kept well company by Dan's poetic way of looking at life through his amazing songs. Words are just so inadequate about how much he and his presence here will be missed. I have sung my entire life, but it was especially when singing the music of Dan Fogelberg that people responded and wanted more.
Please know that my prayers are with you, that the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ will accompany you further through this life as He has done so far, and may all of you get rest now. Sincerely, with warmest regard ~ Meg Butler Curtis of Franklin TN
You and your songs had a profound impact on my life. Thank you for sharing your gift
with us. Rest in peace.
It has been a tradition for some time to dance with my son and husband every Christmas to "At Christmas Time". Today we danced with a heavy heart. In the process of thinking of
Dan so many times today I realized that so many of my memories for the last 30 years have
been wrapped around the only man whose music touched my soul and stayed with me. I have
passed along his legacy to my son. We will always dance with Dan each Christmas. I know
he is at peace now and will continue to pray for Jean, and the ones he loved , that they
find peace and comfort in this life until they meet Dan again. ~ Kelly Schumacher,
Burlington NC
To Dan Fogelberg, I know you are on the red road. Though Takuskanska has left, Wakan Tanka and Tunkashila are ever along side your eternal spirit. Wastekicilakapi mita kola. I have heard the words of your music in my soul since the 70s and always felt your depth of passion. To your family, I am so sorry for your unforgettable and irreplaceable loss. ~ Grace Tomkins
How does one express the sense of loss over Dan?
Impossible.
One of the greatest gifts of all is music. He left us great memories
forever. For that we are blessed.
While routinely surfing sites recently, I checked Dan's because I hoped
I might see him in concert again. It was then that I learned of his
prostate cancer. He urged men to get checked. I got checked, and have
an elevated reading. Hopefully it's early.
Perhaps Dan's voice can be a message to men and fans to check early and
often.
God bless his family.
Now you can rest in peace. You are now an angel. You are in a better place. ~
Fran & John
My heart and soul goes out to you, Jean. I am 37 and have listened to his music since I was a baby. I will always listen to it and always remember it. Again I am so sorry for your loss but I am glad he is not suffering anymore. With deepest sympathy ~ Holly, Pueblo, Colorado
Dear Dan - Our thoughts and prayers are with your family now and at the holidays.
You have
touched so many in ways you will never know. I was so saddened to learn of your passing
this past weekend. Heaven is acquiring an amazing musician and storyteller. 'Same Old
Lang Syne' brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. My 9 year old son recently (just
this past Friday, in fact) asked why I was crying when I was playing your video for it on
the computer. I told him he's too young to have loved like that, to understand how
perfectly it describes a past love, a past feeling, and a chance meeting between two
formers lovers. It is the most amazing song lyrically, musically, and spiritually that I
have ever heard. The world has lost an amazing man. All my best to everyone who is
affected by this loss.
We've lost a truly great musician/songwriter and gentleman in Dan Fogelberg
who passed away from prostate cancer on Sunday after a long courageous
battle with the disease. His music was inspiring as well as influential, yet his
sound very distinct. In my eyes he was a very underrated artist who should have
gotten a lot more recognition than he received. For those that knew his
music, they would surely agree. For those who did not, I would suggest they take a
listen to how his voice, harmonizing and melodic sound was quite
inspirational. As a tribute to Dan, I have posted "Same Old Lang Syne" as my profile song on my
page. This is one of the most moving songs I have ever heard in my life and it
still brings tears to my eyes and chills down my spine whenever I listen to
it. Its lyrics can actually bring you back in time a bit to your younger
days. Rest in peace, Dan. Your legacy
and your music will live on for eternity. And thanks from my heart for all
the beautiful music. You left us much too
soon. ~ Michael Maffei
My husband and I got teary eyed when we heard the news that Dan passed
away. Our hearts are broken. Dan you left us too soon. Your songs
touched my heart, especially " Same Old Lang Syne" and "Run for the Roses".
Now you can sing for the angels!!! God bless you and keep you in His
loving care. Our condolences to Jean and your family! ~
Carmella Romero
In the early 80's when I still worked in the forestry business, I used to leave my lovely, and incurably sad girlfriend in our home and make the 400 kilometer trek to one of the many frozen and far flung logging camps I plied my trade in. On a dime store tape deck in a beat up AMC Gremlin, I listened to Dan's songs as I bounced along that nondescript road, singing at the top of my lungs to songs about lost loves and homes in the country. It kept me warm and occupied and set me daydreaming. I now live in a big old house in a picture postcard setting and I feel I owe it all to you Dan for writing "Long Way Home (Live in the Country)". The sad girl is long gone but your songs remain as the soundtrack to that most memorable of bittersweet relationships. I often wonder if I will meet my old lover in the grocery store at this time of year. I'm so sorry you're gone. I've thought about you and listened to your songs thru much of the day. I lost my father to prostate cancer but he was older. It should not have been your time. "Born out of darkness, to head immediately towards that other darkness, with only a blink of light between." -- Beckett ~
Terry Quennell
Dan's music has marked so many poignant moments in my life. His songs are
laced throughout every significant moment of my past. His eloquent lyrics
and beautiful music has touched me since I was a young girl. I had every
album. In 1982 I was in college. I played the albums so many times that
they "mysteriously" disappeared after a dorm party. I still believe that my
roommate was so sick of hearing them, that she took them and threw them
out!! I was heartbroken.as I am today. I have spent the day weeping on and
off. Nether Lands (My favorite album, I think. It's so hard to choose), has
been playing in the background all day. His music will live on, as will his
spirit as he has moved on to sing with the angels. My heartfelt
condolences go out to his wife, family, and all the fans who have loved him
so. ~ Jenny ~ Point Pleasant Beach, NJ
I am heartbroken!!! Growing up as a teenager in the early 70's and owning
an acoustic guitar, his music was all I played!!! Having had a very troubled
and abusive childhood, his music was all I listened to. Every night when I
went to bed, I would put on my cassette tape of either Souvenirs or Home Free,
put on my headphones, and soothe my broken soul with his voice, his harmonies, his words, his music. That was my escape, he was my escape. I believe to
this day that Dan Fogelberg brought me through, possibly, the worst years of
my life. His music gave me the strength to continue on and gave me the
ability to hope beyond hope, that there was kindness and love in the world,
outside of the "world" I lived in. I had hoped and prayed since learning of his
illness, that he would beat this disease and grace us yet again with his
wonderful voice and music. I am so deeply saddened and feel as if I have lost a
dear, dear friend. I will always hold a special place in my heart for Dan and
will miss him terribly. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. ~
Dawn
Dan, a spirit and inspiration such as you will never die. You are with us
all. Wrapped around our being. Thank you forever.
To Jean and the rest of the Fogelbergs and friends - my sincere condolences. Dan wrote some of the most tender, passionate and
beautiful music ever. I grew up and grew with it. His spirit is always here. We are lucky to have his legacy.
Be strong in the New Year...Dan would want that.
With love ~

To the family and friends of legendary singer and songwriter Dan
Fogelberg, my thoughts and prayers are with you guys. This was a very wonderful talent that didn't get a lot of credit during his lifetime. But I for one, loved his work and it kept me going after a bitter divorce. Those days never seemed so bad, when I listened to his songs. They really touched me and made me believe that tomorrow is on the way, and I can't change today, but I can work on tomorrow.
Thanks, with deep sympathy ~
Robert Hartman
As I was walking out the door this morning, my partner called me back in and
told me that she had just seen on the "ticker tape" that Dan Fogelberg died. All I could do was cry! When I got in the car, I put in the Dan CD, that I
had just removed yesterday to listen to a demo of the acoustic band that I
am in. As I got to the end of my street, one of my band mates, who I grew up
with in college during the 70's called to see if I had heard the news.
We talked for a while about the talent and all of the incredible
memories--like playing "Longer" at one of our best friend's weddings. He also died way
too young, and it just made me realize how important every day is. I'm 51
and cannot believe that Dan's life was cut so short. My thoughts and prayers
go to Jean and the rest of his family. I'm so sorry for your loss, and I'm
happy to hear he was with his family when he passed.
Many hours of music will be played in his memory!! Many tears will be shed
and the idea that there will be no more music is inconceivable! ~
Andrea A.
My deepest condolences to the Fogelberg Family - Dan's music inspired me and influenced my playing and philosophy towards music and life in general. Such a talent will be sorely missed. My heart aches today for we truly have lost a storyteller and musician that changed the World. I can't even find the words.....I love you Dan. Thanks for the gift.
This news was very significant. One more of the most important artists of our time, and
great influences in our lives, has passed away. And there will be no one who can take his
place. ~
Mark
We'll have to wait for another place and another life for that next
concert opportunity. I've been listening to Dan's stuff since 1974 when
first introduced to Souvenirs. Can't say I've bought everything since
and before, but I can say if there was an opportunity to watch Dan
perform and I was close, I was there. There are so many songs that have
spoken to me at so many different points in my life, where would I begin
and end. "Leader of the Band" really hit me at a point when my kids were
growing and really made me wish I had appreciated what my folks had done
for me. I am thankful for the legacy he leaves behind in vinyl and
memory. I hope it is a great consolation to the family to know that he
leaves behind for us all to enjoy, so much more than most of us ever
attempt. Thanks Dan, so, so sorry you had to go so early, but glad
you're beyond the pain. I'll be waiting at the great ticket booth in
the beyond. In Christ ~ SRJ
The news of your passing made me cry. The world has lost an awesome
musician and songwriter. Thanks for all your songs. ~ Sherri
To Dan's family, My heart goes out to you in this difficult time. Just always know that Dan was a very special person who shared his inspiration-his laughter, joys and tears-through his incredible music. I first heard his music on Public Radio in 1974 and fell in love with those beautiful melodies. Through the years, I have bought every album he released
and enjoyed them tremendously-I still listen to them every once and while-even thirty years on. And I know that many many people have been inspired and touched by those magical songs he wrote. Though I never got the chance to meet him, I know that the world was a much better place because he was here.
So Dan, for all the light you have shared, may your journey be sweet and full of peace, may your heart be warmed by the love of all your fans, may the sun always shine upon you, and please accept my humble thanks for all you so graciously shared. You will be missed. You will always be remembered. Thank you so very much.
Dan was the best musician/performer I have ever witnessed in concert. I
saw him perform many times here in Cleveland. My favorite was his one man
show which truly showed how gifted he was. His dedication to his music
and overall professionalism inspired me greatly. Heaven has received
another "leader of the band". ~Stan Jarosz, N. Royalton, OH
I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dan.
His music gave me so much peace and enjoyment in my
youth and I know it will be with me until I take my
journey.
Prayers and positive vibes to you Jean in this time of
sadness. The memories that are so hard now will bring
you much comfort later.
A 44 year old widower and father of 9, I "fell in love" with Dan when I was
only 17. His earliest songs were written when he was about that age, and I
marveled at the "old soul" I had found in this handsome, Christ-like face
and these incredibly nimble fingers and brilliant ear for sound. From then,
1978-79 to now (almost 30 years), my heart has beaten and my soul has
moved with his. I followed from the distance that his fame put between us;
I even wrote and recorded a song for him when I was just 22 that expressed
my hope that when "we" were old, we could be close; we could be friends. I
could never get it to him. Now, this will never happen for me on this
earth. I cannot tell you what a great sadness this is for me. My sweet
Jackie and I saw him during his last concert tour, and I wept then, as he
was putting something out in that performance that was beyond human ability,
and it was beautiful and powerful beyond belief. I sang out with all my
heart with him hoping he might hear, hoping he might take
comfort in how much he was known and loved. I'm sure he couldn't hear me,
but I sang out just the same. I wept and wept yesterday from the time I
heard he had passed, and I have asked my sweet wife Jackie, who passed at
only 39 in March of '05 (contracting her disease when he contracted his) to
be there to welcome him Home, to give him a big hug and kiss for me, and to
tell him how much I love him. Home with his father, Jesus his brother, and
all he hadn't met in the flesh but whom his spirit had touched, for that is
the only explanation for the music that poured from his voice and
instruments and the words that flowed from his pen. Surely, the angels hold
him close in their embrace, even as we mourn his loss to us . . . for now .
. .until we see him again-face-to-face! Now he can enjoy music more
beautiful than his wildest dreams, for "Eye has not seen, nor has EAR HEARD
of the wonders Our Lord has in store for us."
To Dan's dear family, I know
as few others what a horrible sadness rips at the heart when someone this
beautiful leaves us so soon. I will pray for your faith, hope and trust in
these coming months and years.
May His soul rest in peace. Goodbye for now, my sweet, sweet friend. I
will never forget you; I will see you soon, and until then, let us pray for
each other.
Love ~
Peter Lemmon
His music was bright then and his memory, brighter now. ~

Rest in peace, my friend. You are an angel now. You are in better place
free of all disease and worries. Please pray for us! ~ Fran & John
If I had had the opportunity to meet you in person, I would have liked to thank
you for sharing your gift of music and I would have told you how much your songs
touched my heart. You were a wonderfully talented human being who will be missed
by your family and fans.
The music, the man and the memories all conjure up a simpler time in life for
me.
The memories of lives once connected but now separated are relived each time I hear Dan's name or listen to his music.
Certainly, God has a very special place for such a remarkably gifted and spirited man.
My heart and prayers go to those who were closest to him. I pray that God's grace and peace touch them in the days ahead.
One thing is certain; Dan touched millions of lives.
I know . . . . . he touched mine and I am a better man for having known him, if only through his music.
Thank you for sharing your life with us.
Rest well, Dan. ~
Mark
This is bittersweet. I am sorry that he is gone but I am comforted that his suffering is done. The song that impacted my life most was in 1981when I was 14. I was living in a little town called Levin, in the North Island of New Zealand. His song "Same Old Lang Syne" was big here. In my memory, this song defines 1981 for me with my best friend. I didn't understand the song then, but Dan always wrote songs that seem to become more meaningful the older we became. I will miss him. Fly away with the wings of eagles to the Nether Lands of eternity. ~
Sarah in New Zealand
Very sad day. ~ Ed Henry, Winter Haven, Fl.
Dan,
It was 1980, headed for Boulder from south Georgia with Twin Sons by my side. The world opened up as I moved to Colorado to settle not to far from you. It was a magical time then, full of inspiration. The surprise performance at the Boulder Theater with Tim Weisberg. Phoenix meant everything to me at that impressionable time and still does. I discovered your earlier material as the snow fell. It will always be a part of me. I cannot thank you and the Lord above enough for your work.
Your music will live on forever. ~
Drew
He left us wonderful lyrics and music that will never be
forgotten.
Much Love ~
E
To the family of Dan,
I hope for you emotional rest, and peace from the long process of this illness.
I so always will be grateful for the music that touched all of our lives in such a positive
way. ~ Debra in North Dakota
I was so saddened to hear that Dan died. However, his music will live on forever. I have always enjoyed and been inspired by his music and lyrics. His song "Leader of the Band" always makes me think of my father, who is gone now, and the gifts he gave to me. His album"The Innocent Age" is one of my all time favorites. I think I will sit down and listen to it in its entirety and appreciate Dan's life and the gift of his music to us all. My deepest sympathy to his wife Jean. ~
Deborah J. Kaechele
I want to say goodbye to Dan I really enjoyed his music as I was growing
up he made me think about life and to respect it as we live another day.
I'm going to miss him so and I'm going to still listen to his music. He
brings me alive. Wish I had met him in life so I could have told him
this. His music reminds me of John Lennon, John Denver and James Taylor.
They all have a way about their music and sometimes it really touches
your soul deep inside. Thank you Dan for giving me something to think
about. Life itself. Now, you will play and sing for the Lord up in
Heaven. Love You Dan. Your friend ~ "Eston"
Dan Fogelberg was an inspiration to me. I loved his music, his art, his
persona. I wanted to play guitar like him and learned many of his songs. I saw
several of his concerts. I will miss the man and the music. My best wishes to
those who are left behind.
I first heard Dan at the Arizona State Fair in 1977, and paid $2 for the privilege. A fan called out "I love you!" and Dan called back, "I love you, too!" The crowd went wild. Since then, I've seen him 8 more times--the last time at Meadowbrook Festival, in Rochester Michigan, about 5 years ago. It got to the point where my then-husband refused to go with me anymore. I actually preferred the songs that didn't really make the charts--"The Reach", "Nexus". Although when my father died, "Leader of the Band" had a lot more meaning for me. I'm so sorry to hear the news. It's been a LONG time since I wrote any kind of fan letter but this would be the one that I couldn't ignore.
Dan - thanks for everything. ~ Dave B, Charlottesville, Virginia
It would be impossible to convey how many moments of genuine happiness Dan's music has inspired in my life. So I won't even try.
Man, will he be missed. ~

Several months ago, I had the strong urge to listen to the Dan Fogelberg albums that I had enjoyed in the 70's and 80's. I sent my sisters links to listen to Dan's music, also.
He was a very talented musician and a favorite performer of our family's. "Leader of the Band" holds special meaning for myself (a music teacher) and my mom (a retired music teacher).
While a college student at Ohio State in the late '70's, I had concert tickets to see Dan, and was very disappointed when my dad refused to let me go, due to a winter snowstorm. About fifteen years later, my dad surprised me with tickets to see Dan in Columbus, remembering how much I had loved his music and had wanted to see him.
Today, one of my sisters sent me the following email: "Yesterday it came to me that "today I need to get that Dan Fogelberg album" (Souvenirs).
Then, this morning, I heard on the news that he had died yesterday....so I told Frank (my co-worker) the story this morning, and he said, "Yesterday, I was home alone, and just got the urge to play "Nether Lands".
Isn't that strange? We want to believe that when someone really special passes, you know it."
Dan's special music and beautiful voice will undoubtedly enrich the music in Heaven!
I was so saddened to hear of Dan's passing. I was and still am a great fan of his music. With so many wonderful songs, it's hard to name one or two favorites, but 'Believe in Me', 'Run for the Roses', and 'Leader of the Band' hold fond memories. My husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer this year, so we know firsthand the fear and uncertainty of this terrible disease. We were lucky that surgery removed it all, and he is now cancer free. If only Dan's had been diagnosed sooner, we would not have lost someone who touched so many lives in such a calming way. We encourage all men to follow his advice and get your regular PSA tests. ~

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of my
favorite
musician. I had all his recordings on 8 track tapes until I purchased them
on LPs and then later on CDs. I was lucky enough to see him in concert 4
times with the final time being his 30th anniversary tour. I have his
songbooks and play his music on the piano. Not a week goes by when I don't
listen to his recordings. I loved Dan very much and he will truly be missed.
With Deepest Sympathy ~

What more can we wish for than to make a difference in this world with the
one life we are given. Thanks Dan for sharing your gift of music with all
of us over the last few decades. You've touched my heart and soul and have
brought great joy to my life. I honor the memory of the life you lived so
well - you've left the world a better place. My thoughts and prayers are
with Jean and Dan's family and friends. Peace. ~

I am so sad today to hear of Dan's passing. I've been listening to his great music all day in tribute. I cry at this time of year anyway when I hear "Same Old Lang Syne", but I am crying early this year. Dan, we won't forget you. ~

Even though over 30 years have passed since "Souvenirs," it was the
quintessential Dan Fogelberg album to me. Went through two copies of
it as a teenager in the mid 70's--someone just a little older seemed
to have the world figured out. Played it again this morning and
revisited his lyrics; he was a wise and spirited soul. There was
indeed a place in the world for a gambler. Thank you, Dan. ~ Anne
As I sit here listening to "The Innocent Age" one more time, I am extremely sad.
I can't express how much Dan Fogelberg's music has meant to me over the years. Driving through the front range of Colorado in '81 and listening to "Innocent Age", or coming out of the Blue Ridge Mtns off of the Appalachian Trail and listening to Nether Lands at my car, on a Monday morning in '79 as everyone else was heading to work....
These are but a few of my best memories. Lots of quiet evenings spent with those I love listening to Dan's excellent guitar and voice.
The world is truly an emptier place.
Rest in Peace my friend. We miss you.

Returning to the source is serenity." ~

Dan Fogelberg touched the lives of so many people on this island. And his song "The Reach" will remind us all for generations to come of who we are and where we live. He will be missed. ~ Sally Richardson
I've been a fan of Dan's for years. I never missed a concert when he was in town. He will be greatly missed.
To his family and friends, I wish you all peace of heart, mind and soul.
Rest in Peace Dan. ~

I was shocked and saddened by the news of the Dan 's passing.
It was Dan Fogelberg who inspired me to get a guitar and learn how to play
it. He made it look so effortless that I thought I could do it too. I did
learn to play and have traveled the country singing and playing songs I have
written. I always feel like I am getting a visit from a long lost relative when
one of his song's come on the radio.
Thanks Dan...
Longer than there's been fishes in the ocean....
I will remember you. ~
Shari
Dan's music has gotten me thru so many times...good times and hard. I will
miss him here on earth but I will never stop hearing his music. I am so
sad. I wish his family well. Thank you for sharing him with everyone. ~ joy
You were so much a part of my existence as a young woman. Your lyrics spoke to me in a way no other music ever did. Of course, like so many other fans, the song "Longer" was sung at my wedding, but it was more than a song - it was a testament to the life I hoped to live each day. Today, when I walked in the door from work, my husband's first words to me were, "Did you hear the bad news?" How sad I am for Dan Fogelberg's family and friends. How blessed the world is to have his legacy of music. ~ Donna
We met after the University of South Florida concert in 1993. I had heard your music
in college back in the 70's. Over the past thirty years your lyrics have informed my
heart and mind. Dan, God is on His throne and seeing you come today is going to put a
smile on heaven's face. Imagine the angels and the joy they have having you back]
among them to join the heavenly chorus. Not only that, but Daniel, your guitar will
give God glory. Your music lives on and you are not gone. Thank you for your gift, Dan. Love ~ Andy Benson
Dan Fogelberg was a real inspiration to me. From 1974 through the mid 80s I
wore his records out! Today I write songs for a living in Nashville TN. And
I can honestly say I hear his influence in my music. There is such power in
music, and what a gift he had. It saddens me to know he gone, but his work
lives on. God rest his soul ~ Steve Williams
Your music touched my life - your beautiful music lulled my little ones to
sleep, helped me through a terrible divorce, and kept me calm and sane. I have no doubt you are now serenading the angels in heaven.
May your family take solace in knowing how many people loved your music. May they wrap the memory of you around them like a warm blanket when sadness overcomes them.
Rest in peace, wonderful minstrel. ~
Melanie Thomason
We lost a true musician today. A man who could make music that moved the
soul has left us to his own rewards. My God grant him the eternal peace he so
richly deserves and may he also grant his family comfort and support.
I am sad to hear of the passing of Dan. His music has and continues to keep a
very special place in my heart. I will never forget the first time I saw him in
concert at the Celebrity Theater in Phoenix - 1974. The next day I purchased all
of his albums and haven't stopped playing them since. What a great artist. Never
to be forgotten. ~
Scott
To Dan's Family:
It is with great sadness that I received this message this morning. However,
as I thought about Dan's music, especially in his later years, I know his
faith was strong and that his music not only continues in our hearts and
minds but in heaven as well. How the angels must be rejoicing to hear a
voice like his that has no equal on earth. The leader of the band is
certainly leading the band in heaven now.
I first heard Dan's music in the late 70¹s when my college roommate was
playing Dan's Home Free album. To this day, his music carries me thorough my
highest and lowest times. His music touches my soul like no other music ever
has. His legacy will indeed live on in our house as my 16-year-old son is
now listening to Dan's music.
May God's grace and peace be with you and may your emptiness be replaced
with the promise that God's children will all be back together, forever.
In Christian Love ~
Perry Passen
It is with deep sadness but also knowing that Dan lives in many people's
hearts that I send my condolence to his family and friends.
May the Angels in Heaven be with Dan. He left a legacy that means so much
to us will never forget his songs.
Peace and Love be with all who loved Dan. ~
Tony Morales/El Paso Texas living in Bakersfield California
My sister came home from college for Christmas Break, 1974 with a new
album (Souvenirs) from some guy named Dan Fogelberg that she'd just seen
in concert. After one listen, I was also hooked. My wife and I
listened to Dan's music throughout our dating years (the late 70's) and
in all of our 27 years of marriage. We saw him live several times
including a memorable acoustic show in Augusta, GA in 1995 when I sat
right in front of him in row #1. As a songwriter and musician, the man
was an inspiration to me. "The Innocent Age" holds a special place in
my life. My condolences to his loved ones, and my thanks to Dan for his
gifts to us all and for an example of a life well lived. ~

The struggle is done. Peace be with you always, Dan. Jean, may you find
comfort in the glorious memories and the knowledge that we all will miss
him.
Dan is one of my all time favorite singers. Such a talented musician/singer/songwriter will be missed in this world. His music was so beautiful it could bring a tear to even the hardest of hearts. His songs were so full of truth. I pray that his family has peace at this time and know that we are all mourning with you. Rest well Dan, the snow has turned to rain... ~
Renee McCarley
Jean, God got a good one yesterday. Our prayers are with you.
I want to wish you our sincere condolences. We loved Dan's music so very
much. He touched our hearts with his songs and he will always be remembered.
God bless you, God bless Dan. ~

To Dan Fogelberg's family. His music meant a lot to a generation. I'm sorry for
your loss. We're all singing "Same Old Lang Syne" this holiday. ~ Kim
Family of Dan Fogelberg:
My sincere condolences on the loss of such a wonderful person. Less than a year ago, our family also lost a person of unfathomable beauty. We will always wonder was she was taken so suddenly. and so tragically. We will never know, unfortunately.
However, we still discover new things about her that we never knew, from those who she touched over the years. These small anecdotes, as well as our individual memories of her, have brought us so much comfort over the past year. I can only imagine the magnitude of these items, from a person such as Dan who has touched so many. I hope you find some comfort from these folks, as well as your memories of Dan.
Personally, Dan has always been a favorite of mine. So many memories have associated with his music over the years. He has helped me through so many life experiences, and two life-threatening conditions which persist to this day. I still find strength in his words, and vow to struggle and fight through my last day of existence, with his music at my side.
God bless all of you.
Take care ~
Mike
My thoughts and prayers go out to Dan's wife and family. He was a very talented musician. When I heard of his passing, I got all of Dan's CDs together and listened to his music all day today. It took me back years to some of the more memorable things that happened to me. "Nether Lands' was one of the first albums I bought in high school with my babysitting money. "Longer" was the theme of my junior prom. "Same Old Lang Syne" has always been one of my personal favorites, as were "Heart Hotels", "The Last Nail" and "Dancing Shoes". All of Dan's music expressed so much emotion and feeling, he really loved his compositions and it showed! My favorite line is from "Nether Lands" itself: "Where do you go when you get to the end of your dream?" Dan was very inspirational in his brave battle with cancer. God bless his memory, Dan was truly a musical legend!!!
My heartfelt love is with you at this hard time. My sister in-law passed just a
couple of months ago from cancer too and so it's pretty fresh for us too. Just know that I loved his music--sang them a lot when I was a bit younger. I wish for you heartfelt smiles along with the grief. Peace & Blessings ~ Lindee Brown Larsen, singer
My heart is breaking for the loss of this warm, talented, and gentle man. His music has touched my soul since I first heard his voice over 30 years ago---"Longer" was my wedding song. Not one "first snow" has gone by without a Dan Fogelberg song weaving its way into my mind. From this day on, his voice and his music will bring a smile, and a tear, to me. Peace, courage, strength and healing to his wife, his family, and all who loved him. A beautiful voice...a beautiful soul... ~ Carol Jenkins, Massachusetts
Dan, I will miss you and your music immensely. I used to play your
tapes
while traveling as a sales representative in the Rocky Mountains. I loved "Same Old Lang Syne" and "Leader of the Band" I wore out the tape long
ago. You are legendary.. Rest in Peace my friend.
~ Kim
God Bless Dan
I was truly saddened to learn today of Dan's passing and wanted to express
my personal gratitude for all his music has done for me over the years. I was
fortunate enough to be surrounded by much music in my household growing up
and Dan's songs were a part of that influence. I'm forever grateful for his
gift and its eternal impact on my life. Peace to your family. ~ Dan,
Maryland.
Dan: Thank you for your wonderful music. I was so sorry to hear of your passing. We lost my brother-in-law to the same terrible disease in 2006. You were always in our thoughts and prayers as he fought. Wishing you peace and and happy that you no longer suffer. ~ Lela
It is with deep sadness that I learned of Dan's
passing. Truly, he was one of the greatest

warmth and his genius will be missed. His music will
endure and future generations of fans will be enriched
because of the legacy he has left us. ~
