Please accept my heartfelt condolences for Dan's passing. His music was a
significant part of my life and there are moments of my past that will forever be
tied to his music and concerts. His words and music brought me to Colorado where
I will always be. I will miss him more than I can express.
Sincerest sympathies ~ Andrew Berman

We have lost a true balladeer. When my wife and myself heard the news this morning all we could say was no. Our prayers are with Jean and the rest of the Fogelberg family. ~ Scott & Leanna Guggenmos - Houston, TX
Dear family & friends of Dan; Dan Fogelberg has touched my life since 1979.
I met my future husband and he was into this guy Dan Fogelberg. I listened to
his music and it touched my heart. I walked down the aisle to a Dan Fogelberg song. When I gave birth to my children Dan Fogelberg was playing in the
background. When I rocked my babies to sleep I played and sang Dan Fogelberg
songs. My children are now 20 and 18 and they were raised on his music. I went
to every concert there was in the Chicago area. I sobbed this morning when I
heard the news of his passing. God blessed us with his music, we were lucky to
have Dan Fogelberg on this earth. My deepest sympathy ~ Nancy Parenti
What an incredibly sad day this is. I had so hoped that Dan could beat the cancer. I checked the internet site every so often to see if there were any updates on his health, and was so devastated to hear of his death. His music pulled me through some periods of deep depression and the nights of his concerts are some of my fondest memories. My thoughts are with his family. Thank you, Dan, for all your music has meant for so many of us.
Memories, music and friends from my '70s college years flash before me. I am sad beyond words. ~ Robert Campi
Have left this world with many, many hours of great music. You are gone but will never be forgotten. ~ Vannessa Smith - Virginia

May you rest in peace. ~

My thoughts and meditations are with the Fogelberg family. I literally grew
up listening to Dan Fogelberg; he's part of the soundtrack of my life.
Here's to "Same Old Lang Syne", Dan; you'll be missed. ~
Kate Baldwin -El Paso, TX
Dan was such a driving force in music, he will be missed deeply. The quiet ones make the biggest impact. I wish his family peace.
I was so sad to hear of Dan's passing. It wasn't but about a month ago, I
thought of him and how he might be doing, I said a little prayer that he might
beat this because we would miss him so.
God bless you Dan and hold you now in the palm of His hand.
Peace and deepest sympathy to Dan's family and friends. ~

I have enjoyed Dan's songs for decades. I'm sorry to see him pass and have
greatly appreciated his music and his heart. I saw him twice in concert.
Once in Minneapolis and once at Red Rocks in Colorado. I wore out my fingers
learning every song on Phoenix and The Innocent Age.
He wasn't just a folk singer, he was a story teller, a revealer, and a
rocker.
To Dan's wife, I'm sorry for your loss. I'll miss his music.
An Angel's voice has left the earth. Thank you for all the memories that you
gave us. You will be missed. Our deepest sympathies to your family. ~

Just to let all of you know that I was impressed and moved by the music over the
years. My thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Fogelberg's family, friends, and fans. He was a great musician and will be missed. ~ Rev. Dave D'Costa
To Jean and the rest of Dan's family, my prayers are with you at this time. Dan, your music is like a soundtrack to certain parts of my life. You said so many things in a way that only you could have said them. Thank you for the invaluable gift you gave me and so many others through your music. Rest in peace. ~ Jim - Deep River, Connecticut
In an age of outrageous behavior and self-promotion, Dan Fogelberg was a man of
virtue, honesty and class. Never in the headlines for the wrong reasons, keeping
his terrible illness quiet, spending his remaining time isolated with those he
loved, exhibiting throughout the style and substance that made him so beloved to
all of us. Dan, you gave all of us so much, it seems that we fans all took and never gave back. You cannot be replaced, but I leave you with this absolute promise - I shall do everything within my personal power to keep your memory alive forever by spreading your music to my children, and their children, throughout the coming generations. They will know of your talent, your incredible gift of putting into song the lives of everyday people, and they will love you as deeply as the rest of us. Thank you so very much for sharing your gifts with us. God Bless you. ~ Nick
Dear Dan,
Your passing has made my heart sad and heavy, but to hear your words and voice lift my
grieving spirit. Thank you for decades of pure and thoughtful prose, many concerts
filling an evening with lifelong memories and most of all leaving indelible stamps
marking the passage of this fans life journey. It would have been a road less meaningful
without an insightful and encouraging companion at my side. You traveled with countless
thousands.
What was to come will not be, but what was will last forever. God rest your soul.
Peace to Jean, your loving family and friends. ~
Jack Straw
My grieving heart, soul, and prayers go out to Jean, Dan's mother and
brothers.
Dan's music and lyrics got me through some of the toughest and most heart breaking moments, as well as some of the greatest joys of my life, starting from high school to the present. I sang "Leader of the Band" to my dying father last year when they took him off of life support, because it was one of his favorites. Dan Fogelberg has been with me in some fashion for more than thirty years of my life. Though we only met once during a concert in 1978, his music and generous spirit touched me deeply, and the world and I will miss him terribly.
God bless you and keep you, Dan. You changed the world. ~
Debbi - "Between the worlds of men and make believe, I can be found..."
Dan:
The first song I ever heard that summed up many father and son relationships was "Leader of the Band". "Run for the Roses" and your best,
"Same Old Lang Syne" are songs that have moved many many people, not just me. My son is coming down for Christmas and we play and sing "Same Old Lang Syne" in your memory. You truly moved people . . . thanks for the music. ~ Mike Roach - Palm Bay, FL
I am so sorry to hear of Dan's passing. His music played a major part in
my life over the years, and will continue to do so in the future. He was one
of the greatest talents of all time, and will never be forgotten.
I'm sure God decided it was time for a command performance, and I know Dan's
making the angels smile now with his songs - and his love. God bless you,
Dan Fogelberg....I love you, my friend. ~
Mickey
Dan's lyrics touched my soul and my life in the 70's, somewhat keeping me
on
track with what is important through his songs. I am deeply saddened and
will miss him dearly. I promise his songs will forever live in my soul. My
thoughts are with all those that had the opportunity to be close to him. The
closest I got was to bring flowers to the stage at one of the many
performances I attended.
With sincere sympathy, love and peace. ~
Linda Hjort -Tatarian
My deepest sympathies to Dan's family and friends. The music of the world is
dimmer today with his passing, but his legacy lives on. Thank you to his
family for so generously sharing Dan with us all these years.
Dan, we will miss you greatly. You were taken way too early. ~ Dave and Suzette - Santa Clara, Ca
Dan was absolutely my favorite artist ever since I first heard him back in
the mid 70's. There wasn't a road trip that occurred in the 70's and 80's
where Dan's music was not playing. I saw him in concert a number of times
and bought his music in multiple media. Needless to say, I was deeply
saddened to learn of his death. My condolences to Jean and the rest of
Dan's family. ~
J. Ainsworth - Guilford, CT
What a sad, sad day. Dan's music was a HUGE part of my life. My wife
and I saw him almost every time he came to Atlanta. In fact, we saw his
last tour in 2003 in support of Full Circle. What an incredible
artist he was. I just can't say enough. I'm listening to a tribute for
him on XM while I type this and they are playing "Same Old Lang Syne."
What a wonderful way to remember this incredible artist. Maybe we will
all get to see you again someday, Dan. Until then, I raise a toast to
you... ~

Dan Fogelberg:
Sadly, we lost one of our greatest role models yesterday. Over the
years, Dan's music has not only provided us with entertainment but has
inspired and touched all of us. While he may have left this world
physically, his spirit will always live on through his wonderful music. ~
Carrie - Edmonds, WA
Since 1972, Dan Fogelberg - through his music - has been a regular and reliable companion of mine. Always at my side, he's been with me through many happy and sad times. We'll all miss him, but to those who knew him - personally or through his music - he'll never really be gone. Dan will live on through memories, his music, and his legacy, and we will always carry a little bit of him around inside of us all. Dan's poignant, eloquent, and thoughtful prose and his haunting and indelible melodies will continue to be a constant. Rings around the moon on chilly nights, old keys left un reconciled, lessons learned, and many other things will bring him back to us in an instant. Thank you, Dan, for the companionship and music and thank you, Jean, for sharing him with us. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. ~
Joe Page
Back in 1977 I met a girl ( now my wife) and the only way I could tell her how I
felt about her was to "borrow" a few lines from one of the many wonderful songs of Dan's. His words were our words; we shared them back and forth so often they became a
part of us... part of our tapestry. They will live in us forever. Thank you Dan.
"I was born by a river.." Dan Fogelberg's profound gift of finding the
right lyrical sentiment and coupling it to such beautiful melodies truly is
his "living legacy." All of his fans feel truly blessed to have his great
body of work by which he will be remembered. The postings thus far include
many "favorite" songs, which is exactly how it has felt all these years.
There are so many wonderful songs of Dan's that there are literally scores
of favorites. Was Dan his music, and his music Dan? Was there a separate,
private persona about which we know nothing? Understanding none of this, we
know that we have loved Dan's heart, which could not hide when he wrote and
sang the anthems that ground out the rhythm to our lives, lo these many
years. God bless you, Jean; you are in our prayers tonight
Jean and family,
Our family's thoughts and prayers are with you in your sorrow. Dan's
legacy was in the words of the songs he wrote...songs that told stories
about everyday things/experiences. Because of his articulate ways he
used his words, he set the standard of how to create a classic. Thank
you for all the wonderful music. Dan was truly the "Leader of the Band"
for my generation. ~
Marie Azizi
Honestly; I feel as though I've lost a close friend even though we never met in person. Does anyone know what I mean? His music has been so much a part of my life for the past 30 years. And he will live on in that way. But I grieve just the same. And I grieve for his wife, Jean.
I am devastated to hear of the death of Dan Fogelberg and at such a young age.
(Along
with my father and mother, there have been way too many deaths in these past few years
for my heart to bear.) I was an early fan of "Danny" Fogelberg. As a teen in the
70's, I was turned on to his music (as well as many other artists of the late 60's early
70's era) by my older brother. I forwarded the news story to my brother. I think he still
listens to Fogelberg's music. I got to see Fogelberg in concert at Madison Square Garden
probably in the late 70's. And even though we, the fans, didn't know him personally you
almost felt like you did because his songs and his voice could touch your heart so
deeply. I think I need to dig out my old LP's and light a candle in honor of a gifted
poet whose beautiful voice has been prematurely silenced. My sincere condolences
and deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Dan Fogelberg. His legacy will live
on. ~Helene Idels - San Diego, CA
Dan Fogelberg and his music will always hold a very special place in my
heart. The songs he wrote and performed are simply so wonderful and have
acquired such a deep meaning for me. I really can not describe the feelings
that I have for Dan and his music.
During a very difficult period of my life listening to songs of The
Innocent Age album without any question saved my life. The stories, lyrics,
and his performance of all his songs, in my humble opinion, are
unparalleled. A man like Dan Fogelberg comes into one's life so rarely.
I know that Dan Fogelberg will be missed greatly.
In my opinion, his classic song titled "The Reach" is the greatest song Dan
ever wrote and performed. I have worn out a untold number of cassettes
listening to it again and again. Even after Twenty Five years with much
water having traveled under the bridge of my life, and listening to "The
Reach" literally millions of times. I still get goose bumps every time it
is played.
Dan Fogelberg and his music has and will always mean so much to me. I have
written into my funeral plans to have "The Reach" played as part of the
celebration of my life. No other words and lyrics describe my own thoughts
and feelings about life better.
I will miss you greatly, Dan Fogelberg. May God bless you and have mercy
on your soul. ~ Benjamin J. "Joe" Browning
I am so sorry to hear about our beloved Dan. I have seen this incredible man perform 3 times in my life, each one different from the previous. The one that really stands out is the one at the Fox Theatre in St Louis, MO; a totally acoustic performance, it was magnificent. Dan was a shining star in our universe. I first learned of Dan in 1976, I think it was the Captured Angel album (yes, album for you youngins) man there are some great timeless songs on that album. Every album prior to and since have been equally incredible in their own right. This will be a person sorely missed on this earth. Jean my heart and prayers go out to you, I always thought Dan was a special person placed on this earth with a mission. I am sure he had completed what was meant to be done, I am only sorry that he will not be here to continue his legacy and his life. The world grieves with you Jean at the loss of this special man. I cry as I write this. I had always hoped to maybe meet Dan someday, it looks as though that will have to wait until eternity. Hopefully he has hooked up with some friends by now in the after life and they are probably having a heavenly jam session. Rock on Dan. Love and prayers ~ KKF
I am so sad to hear of the untimely death of Dan Fogelberg. His music touched millions
of people. Best wishes and thoughts go out to his family and friends. He will indeed be
missed. ~

"Longer" was the only song at my wedding in 1981. This is a very sad day. I know he is now at peace. Thank you for all of the incredible songs. ~ Glenn
What "souvenirs" Dan has left us. God is enjoying his talents now. I pray for
his family's peace in knowing that there is no more suffering and thank them for
sharing Dan with all of us. ~
Don Cudworth -
Mission Viejo Ca
I am so sadden to hear of Dan's passing away. His music was and still is so much a part of my life. I feel like I have been given a gift and the joy of it is Dan, that I have been able to share it with my daughters. Your legacy lives on in all of us. Rest well and thank you Dan. ~ Anna Parkma - Ohio
I feel like I've lost a good friend. ~
Mona Lee
"There's a light in the depths of your darkness"...May it continue to shine. Rest in Peace, Dan.
Dan was a great musician. I grew up listening to all of his songs. He was
so talented and will be missed. One of my prom themes was "Longer". I love
"Face the Fire", "Run For the Roses" ,etc. He was so good, smooth. And I am
not a soft rock fan. He had me listening though and always will. God bless
him and his family/significant others.
I am devastated - never to hear new music by a man who has been with me the last thirty years. Seeing me through good times and bad. I hope and pray he knew the joy his music brought to others. I hope Jean can find peace in this terrible hour with the knowledge that her love was my love, in my heart, and I share her pain . I only wish I could make it better somehow for his family. Just know how much he meant to the world for so long . What a wonderful life. Peace now.
We have lost another of the greats in a dying breed, the singer-song writer. Hopefully the new generation will learn of Dan's passing and become inspired to become true stars, not the one's created on TV. God Bless to his family and friends. ~ Leo - Pennsylvania
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. My family knew Dan from
Pagosa Springs, Colo. where he built his home near my parents Lodge. I met him a couple of times and I can truly say he was a very humble, down
to earth person.
A wonderful talent.
Sincerely ~
Tammy
The world lost one of the most inspirational performers of all time this
morning. My greatest sympathy to his wife Jean. I want you to know how much he
touched my life. I saw him in concert every chance I got and one summer I was
able to bring my Mom. I drug her up to Park City Utah, first thing in the
morning. We sat on lawn chairs and hung out with his other dedicated fans.
During the concert I looked over at her and she had tears streaming down her
cheeks. I was able to share with her the Man and his music. She knew why I called
him my favorite male vocalist of all time. I am sure she was there greeting
him in heaven. Thank you Dan for sharing your songs, your talent, your heart.
I will miss you but your music will live on.
~Anne Duffin
"His gentle means of sculpting souls."
Through his music, his words of poetry, and his voice which balanced each
note and each word was truly a gift.
A gift which indeed did sculpt the hearts and souls of many people, and will
continue to do so for generations to
come. His music can never be erased from our societal tapestry. His words
will continue to touch millions.
God bless his family, God bless Dan Fogelberg. ~
Mary Beth Olds
I am so sorry to hear about Dan Fogelberg. My heart goes out to Mrs.
Fogelberg. I am so sorry for your loss and sorrow. I hope your
memories will be a source of strength to hold in your heart, and that
his spirit will be always with you, in you and around you. May family
and friends be there for you. Take good care of your self. ~ Ann Rehme (St. Louis MO)
Dan's music kept me company on many long drives and I think I wore the grooves out on Souvenirs. We will all miss you Dan and our thoughts and prayers are with you. Thanks for some time well spent. ~ Dennis -CT
Friends, Dan was my post to lean on for many years of my life. He inspired me and my deceased wife with his wonderful, magical music. I will always play his music until the time that I also leave this Earth. May God Bless and keep Dan
To the Fogelberg family,
I have very fond thoughts of Dan Fogelberg and his music. As a musician and author I appreciated his talent and heart. You cannot write and perform at his level without having the capacity to love, and to be loved. He will be missed while his music yet lives.
To his family I send my prayers. God bless your hearts, I know you are suffering. Please allow those around you to love you and take care of you in the days to come. ~
Lane Stonecypher
Dan's music and lyrics inspired so much in me that I'm frightened to
actually try quantify it. I moved to Colorado because of Nether Lands. I
fell in love over and over because of his many songs. I started my own
company (my first of many) because of "There's a Place in the World for a
Gambler." I've kept myself (or gotten myself back on track) many times
through "Man in the Mirror."
My life's troubadour has passed and I'll never forget him. People have asked
me many times for a favorite DF song and frankly, I don't have one. I have
one every day, every moment, every hour, depending on my mood and my place in
life. He's touched me at every high and low.
God Blessed you Dan Fogelberg and took you way too soon. ~
Dee Rambeau
I know we don't really know people we don't know, but in Dan's music there
is so much passion, expression, love, kindness, wonderful stories, and even
hope, that I'm sure I'm seeing Dan's soul. Such a short life, yet what an
impact on others. I saw Dan in Maine a few years ago, and he was a kind,
funny, talented person who seemed to have love for all people. Dan, your
music & its passion will stay with me forever, as will the person I'm sure
you are. My best wishes to you and your family, and that the future brings
all of you peace, love, and fulfillment of your hopes. ~
Gary Allegretta -

The passing of Dan Fogelberg has touched me deeply. His music and songwriting
craft had a tremendous impact on my musical life and my generation. The gift he
gave to all of us will be shared and treasured forever. It is my sincere hope that wherever his journey takes him, he will continue to touch all as he had done for so many of us.
Thank you for the memories Dan...there will never be another such as you. ~ Billy Yates -
Venice California
My deepest condolences to you and your family, You Dan, will live on forever
in the music you have left behind. ~ AmyBeth
I have always thought that Dan gave an example of what would happen if
men
let women know what we were thinking and more importantly what we are
feeling. His passing leaves a void where once there was a voice to teach
and share. ~ Randy
I, like many others here, was shocked and devastated when I heard of Dan's
passing. The world has lost one of its greatest singers and songwriters. I was, and still am, a great admirer of Dan's work. I'm 28 now, and I was practically raised on Dan's music; Phoenix was probably the first album I was ever exposed to as a baby. I have always loved Dan's ability to make even the most trite sentiment sound new and refreshing with his wonderful lyrical gifts. He had one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard. He was truly a master of storytelling, and musically, he has composed some of the most engaging and beautiful music I've ever heard, and probably ever will hear. "The Last Nail", "Scarecrow's Dream", "Longer", "Believe In Me", "Nether Lands", "Leader Of the Band"....I could go on and on listing every song that has continued to touch me in some way throughout the years. Dan's music stands the test of time in every way possible, and his legacy will live on forever, of that
I am sure. My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and the rest of Dan's family, and I know God will give them the strength to deal with the loss they are now facing. Rest in peace, Dan. You have given us all much more than you will probably ever know. ~ Kevin Bluxome - Williamsburg, VA
We all have a lot to be thankful for; his thoughts, words and music will continue on. My best to Jean and the family. Peace. ~ Kelly Grogan - Colorado
Dan you were an inspiration to me and you will be dearly missed in the music world. Nether Lands and Windows and Walls were two of my favorite albums of all time. I will see you on the other side happy journey my friend. ~ Ray Mims
I echo the thoughts of so many others. I am a singer/songwriter and so much of his music inspired my style. He represents a whole piece of my youth, and I feel as if I had a friend pass. Prayers to you, the family. I just lost my brother, the same age, to cancer a month ago...a hard road to travel. ~ Gina - Colorado Springs, Colorado
With a heavy heart we share the loss of a special man and talented musician. I am truly saddened. His music touched my soul and traveled with me throughout many chapters of my life. I went to many of his concerts in venues large and small, he reached out to so many. My deepest sympathy to you, Jean and to his family. You were truly blessed to have been a part of his life as he was to many of us from afar. ~ Mary Sealine - Iowa
To the family of Dan Fogelberg; Dan's music has been such a big part of my
life. May it comfort you to know how many lives he touched through his music. It is a sad day for all of us. Rest in peace Dan, your music lives on for ever... ~ Cindy in NY
The angels in heaven are listening to some beautiful music today. Dan's music got me through some very rough times in my younger days. I feel as though I have lost a dear friend. God Bless.
Like so many others here, I was saddened to hear of Dan's passing. Great to
know that his music had the same profound effects on me as it did countless
others. How fortunate we are to have his poignant and inspiring lyrics and
magical melodies live on. Hope his friends and family close to him find peace. I
have and will listen to his music frequently, but now a sad note has been
added. ~ Greg - Lafayette, LA
Wow what a loss. I am and always will be a fan of Dan Fogelberg.
How many times have a listened to those great songs late at night. His music has been such an important part of my life. I still remember when he came to Nashville and played at the Opry House in the 80s. I will never forget the music and the man.
My thoughts and prayers go to his family.
May he rest in peace. ~

I am extremely saddened today with the loss of one of the greatest musical
artists of all time. I have been a huge fan of Dan Fogelberg for half my life,
discovering him at age 30, and still loving him and his powerful and moving
music at age 62. My wife told me the shocking news this morning, and we both
said that we felt like we have lost a dear friend. We have been married
almost 31 years, and I turned her on to Dan's brilliance when she was but 24. As
he said in "Part of the Plan", "some day we'll all understand." "Let it shine."
I am also a fan whose all-time favorite song is "Same Old Lang Syne. ~
David
Dan, I grew up with. His words and music were always inspiring and real. I
have in my will that the "The Reach" be played at my own funeral service. I am
so sad. His music was touched by the soul of God. Godspeed Dan. My deepest
condolences to Jean and his family. He will live on through his music and
lives he touched so deeply. ~
S. Hon - Aurora Colorado
Dan touched so many lives with his soothing vocals and he said things in his songs that we mortals simply could not verbalize. He was a great poet and a wonderful musician. While he will be greatly missed, we'll always have his musical legacy to help us cope with the loss. My heart goes out to Jean and the rest of his family. Thanks Dan, you will live forever on. ~ Steve Chappell
I hadn't heard that Dan was sick and was devastated to
hear of his death. My husband had his prostate removed
five years ago and I understand completely how
devastating this cancer can be. Dan's music will
forever keep him with us. I feel the same way I
felt when Jim Henson died. There will never be
another. ~
Pamela Shelton
I too lost my wife way too soon to cancer. I wish I could say something to Jean that
would make things better but I can't. Hopefully the luminous times you shared will help
carry you through. Walking from the darkness to the light is a terribly hard trip.
Ernestine lives within my heart and in a real way is with me though the days. My heart
goes out to you.
Dan and his music will be greatly missed. He brought years of comfort to my
life through his music. I shall be ever grateful.
Rest in peace Dan. ~

My wife informed of Dan's' transition this morning. I read some of these
condolences today at work, which caused my eyes to tear up several times. I had to wait till my co-workers left for home before I could add my thoughts. Thanks for your significant part on this earth to make it better place, the world has been blessed. This season will be very special when I hear the sax start up after the words " the snow turned into rain" ~ Joe & Martha
The first concert I ever saw was Dan Fogelberg in Peoria, Illinois. I am sorry for the family and will continue to pray for them. Dan has received the ultimate healing; he feels no more pain or fear over what may come. God Bless you, Jean. ~
Cathy Trotter
We all prayed and prayed for healing for our dear Dan. He's now healed. God works in his own way. "One day we'll all understand."
Dearest Jean, My most sincere condolences to you and your family at the passing of your
beloved husband. Dan defined my (our) generation in his songs and messages
of love, peace and friendship we all shared in our young adult lives.
Tonight , I will pick up my old guitar, dust it off and play his music like
we did so long ago for our friends and loves until the tears choke back the
lyrics leaving the chords to echo in our memories . Thank you Dan for a
life of love and music. God bless you and may he welcome you into his band. Love. ~ Peter Bentivegna - Cape Cod, Ma.
Devastated. I cried last night for an hour while listening to some of my favorite songs. I feel like I have lost a friend and confidant. Someone who always understood what I was going through and always had the right words to say. Over the years, I have worn out both his vinyl and cassettes and, if it were possible, i'm sure I would wear out his CD's. My deepest, heartfelt sympathy goes out to his wife and family. I hope knowing that he will live on in his music and continue to touch so many lives will give you some comfort at this difficult time.
Dan was a great inspiration. I remember when I first heard his music, 1974 In Lexington KY music store. I had to have that album. Thanks for all the memories, words and inspiration. Yes I have had a PST test done because of Dan. Thanks again.
He will always be a "Part of the Plan" for me. ~
Dick Bullard
Jean and family,
Heaven has gained a new soldier with an ever so harmonic voice. May his
legacy live on in the music that he so graciously shared with the World.
May it be "Part of the Plan" that time and memories of wonderful years spent
with Dan sustain you today and each day of the rest of your life. Fondly. ~ Tom and Martha Close
Hello,
I am so upset about Dan's passing. He was such a vibrant part of my life as I was growing up. He taught me how to play the guitar. I listened and learned on his records. My dad was also a band director and after my dad died, I sang Dan's music "Leader of the Band" in honor of my dad. I will be forever grateful that he was in my life. Bless his soul.
With Love, an adoring fan who has a broken heart, ~
Carole (only 6 years younger than him)
Thanks Dan, for all the beautiful music you gave us. You will never be forgotten, but you will be sorely missed. ~ Wm. Mountrey - Monterey, CA
Oh, I am so saddened by this loss. Your music has touched me for decades.
Thank you for leaving us such a beautiful legacy in your songs. You will not
be forgotten. ~ Laura
It's so very difficult anytime we loose a loved one, even more so during the Holidays. Many fans of Dan feel we knew him as he communicated his feelings to us in his music. Dan, to this day was one artist that I personally saw captivate an audience, keeping their attention and waiting for each and every word of a story he told through song. I've never seen anyone do it better.
Heaven has a new band leader and I am happy to have lived in a time that I could experience his spirit.
God bless him, and his family and friends, and of course his fans. ~
Dan in Ct.
Many of Dan's songs mark my life;
"Leader of the Band" gave me words with which to talk to my father when I couldn't find
words of my own.
"Same Old Lang Syne" was one of the songs that brought my wife and I together. "Part of the Plan" has been a life anthem.
"To the Morning" never fails to move me.
"Since You've Asked" may be the most beautiful love song I know.
Thank you.
Peace. ~
Milton
Dan Fogelberg's music was introduced to me in 1979; he became my favorite; "Nether Lands" became "my song" and I've been a fan ever since. I was
lucky enough to see him in concert in Vail a few times when I lived there
in the 80's. He typically would go from the concert to the Red Lion or
other bar and jam with local musicians. It's obvious the insightful and genuinely kind person he was by the lyrics he wrote and the way he
interacted with his fans. I'm heartbroken to know that he is gone. I'll
treasure his beautiful music always. ~
Tami Boudreau - Columbia Falls, Montana
My sincere condolences to Dan's family. He was a wonderful
inspiring
songwriter. Coincidentally I used some lyrics from one of Dan's song's
"Forefathers" in my own Father's eulogy detailing his legacy only 2 weeks
ago. They were so uplifting for my entire family. Thanks Dan and may you
rest in peace. ~ Tom McCarthy
Wow, what a blow. I read about Dan's passing on Yahoo.com. I only knew his
music and as a 12 year old kid with an estranged relationship with my own
father. I played (more like kindly butchered) his song "Leader of the Band"
for my Dad at my first guitar recital. I'm 41 now, still play the guitar
and piano and still pinpoint that recital and playing that song as a pivotal
moment in my relationship with my Dad. We've gone on to have a pretty good
relationship. I'm sorry for the loss of Dan Fogelberg but at least he made
the world a better place with his music.
Respectfully ~

I was shocked when I heard on the radio today of Dan's passing. Just a few days ago I
listened to "Same Old Lang Syne," which is one of the most melancholy songs around
holiday time and evokes sentimental memories. I've always liked Dan and regret that I
never pursued learning more about him. But life these days is so hectic for all of us, we
often fail to appreciate the true gems in our midst...until they're gone. It's another
sad loss to music, and follows the greats like Jim Reeves, Jim Croce, Rick Nelson, John
Denver and Karen Carpenter. It seems the ones that touch our hearts the most are not
allowed to remain on this earth for long. ~ Larry Jordan and family -Panora, Iowa
Like so many, I am deeply saddened by the passing of this "quiet man of
music." He was there with me through all of my life's adventures and trials,
and he always seemed to know just what to say at just the right time.
We met only once, briefly, but you've been my friend for thirty-five years.
I'm really going to miss you, Dan. Vaya con Dios. ~
Jim Robinson -Bakersfield, California
Most importantly now, Jean. Let me express my deepest heartfelt sorrow, comfort and loving support to you and your family during this difficult time. I am sure these last few months were especially hard. I send you my deepest feelings of strength as you face your new tomorrow.
Last night, as I explained to my 11 year old son why I was sad, he calculated that Dan was really important to his life too. From my son's point of view; if his mom (me) did not watch MTV back in 1986 and had not seen Dan singing in a video filmed in Colorado, then his mom would not have decided right then, during that video, to move to Colorado, and instead, would have stayed in Philly and never met his dad in Colorado. Therefore, my son surmised, he would not be here today. He is glad that Dan was around :) My son is a smart kid and he is probably right.
So, it is about the music, the memories and the wonderful things that happened along the path while listening to Dan's inspiring music.
Dan, there was magic in the music that will go "Ever On". I relive my most precious life memories each and every time I hear your music. Thank you for the wonderful gift of your music and how it spoke to my soul and the souls of those I held close.
My college years, my graduation day, my 20's, my wedding...Dan was there and he didn't even know it.
Thank you for the memories.
He's had a massive impact on my life. He's probably the only reason I was
able to write poetry in high school without feeling like it threatened my
manhood. Not to mention girls I've danced with, long drives he's kept
me awake, and the days I used to take his Innocent Age album from start to
finish and study the lyrics and get all emotional. Yeah, I had it bad.
I can't count the hours I've spent with his songs as the background.
He'll be missed. ~
Michael Jensen - Logan, UT
I couldn't believe it. I was driving back home to Virginia this morning when I heard on the radio. What a man, what a legend. I cried... There are some people that affect you in many ways. Dan did this through his music and it dearly touched my soul. So young, just a year younger than my mom and its a GREAT loss. We love and will miss you and you will live on through your AMAZING MUSIC. Rest in peace and I wish the VERY best for your wife and family. God bless you. Forever a fan.
We are saddened at the passing of one of our favorite voices and storytellers, especially at Christmas time.
Dan Fogelberg's music is such a part of our family's life, even my adult children remember listening to his albums when they were growing up. Just recently, my 28 yr old son called me from LA where he lives and works to say he'd just heard "Same Old Lang Syne" on the car radio and it made him think of his father and me and how we loved that song.
Be reassured that his music and the stories they tell will continue to live on in many hearts, as will his memory. We ask God to bless and strengthen you and your loved ones in the days ahead.
Sincerest condolences ~ Megan Cobb - Beaumont, Texas
We here at WKTJ were privileged to be able to play your songs to a listener group who loved them. We played a tribute for you and will continue to play your awesome music as long as we are on the air. Thank you for your contribution to music. You will be missed, but you are loved and will be forever by both us here at the station and our listeners. God Bless.
Somehow it doesn't make sense that I can feel such profound sadness over
the loss of someone who I never met The fact I only saw Dan in
concert and never got closer to him than a concert stage doesn't make my
sadness any less real. My thoughts and prayers are with your family,
and I know that you are in a better place and at peace. I truly feel
like you got me through my first love, my first broken heart. You
introduced me to my current love and you were there for everything
in between. Your music touches my soul as deeply as anything can, and
I am grateful that your music lives on in your CDs . . . but you will be
forever missed. Thank you for sharing your gift with all of us.
Maybe now you finally know how many lives you have truly touched. ~ Diane in Kansas City
I grew up listening to Dan. I remember him in my college years and also was blessed to see him in concert at the Mann Music Theatre. It was an acoustical concert and totally amazing. I feel sad because I didn't know he was sick. This may sound strange but for some reason the other night I listened to him on You Tube. Again, keep in mind I didn't know he was sick. That was God's work saying to me don't ever forget this wonderful man and his talents. My prayers are with all of his family. ~ Tammy Mc
I am so very sorry to learn about Dan's death. I am a 53 year old woman.
Dan's music accompanied me through many times in my life. He created
so many beautiful songs; songs with themes which seemed true and real for him;
songs with themes which were true and real for me. I have always appreciated
how he expressed personal feelings in song so exquisitely. Dan was like a friend to me.
Dan really touched me. I am grieving now too, along with his loved ones.
~ Ann Duquette - Acton, MA.
I am truly sorry to hear of the passing of Dan. Dan's mother is a long time customer of mine. My heartfelt thoughts go out to all of Dan's family. Here in Peoria, on one of the local radio stations, they just finished an hour long tribute with his music and an interview with local promoter Jay Goldberg. I was so blessed to have the time to sit and listen to the tribute. Just a week ago, I sent cookies to Jean & Dan from "Mom", and I hope they arrived ok.
Again my prayers & thoughts go out to the Fogelberg's. ~ Carl Anderson - Peoria, Il.
God Bless you and your family. Thank you for your music. A long time friend.
Dan, your music fed my soul and dreams for 35 years. I grew up
listening to you, feeling every word and note. I can't believe we lost
such a wonderful musician, environmentalist, photographer, poet and
person. Rest in Peace. The world will be lonely without you. ~ July

The dignity and gentle spirit of Dan Fogelberg shines through in his beautiful music and
his life, which goes on in a kinder, gentler place. My condolences to all who loved him,
and that includes all the fans. To Jean and the rest of his family, may you find solace
in the great love this wonderful man shared with you. There will always be a special
place in our hearts for Dan. He will never be forgotten.
Peace and Love ~ Judy
It's with real sorrow that I learned of Dan's passing. Like so many
others, his music touched a part of me (in a deep way that other music
simply never really did). I remember his first album Home Free; man I
can just feel the goose bumps that listening to "Hickory Grove" or "The
River" used to give me at the tender age of 15 in 1972; but then again
so many of his songs used to do that. An occasional run thru my dusty
old LPs always finds me landing on one of his compilations and smiling
at the memories as the vinyl spins. Rest in Peace Mr. F - your music
magic will be hard to come by again. ~

I spent yesterday with my two sons Dustin 25 & Daniel 23. We went to my Mother's house to celebrate Xmas. On the way home I turned my sons on to several of Dan's songs. They really enjoyed his music. When I woke up this morning I heard Dan had passed away yesterday. Tears poured from my eyes. I was born in 1951 also. I saw Dan several years ago in Kansas City at the music hall. Dan is a great performer and everyone who came in contact with his music will never forget him. Peace be with his wife. ~ LDM
I want to express my deepest sympathies to the Fogelberg family. The world
has lost a wonderful person, but his music will carry on forever. ~ Dave

What a sad, sad day. Dan's music has been a part of my life for the last
30 plus years and he will be so missed. I saw him in concert many, many
times and can still see him in my head; guitar in hand, long hair,
singing his heart out. I will keep that with me always. My condolences
to your family.
Please accept my deepest sympathy and my sincere condolences in the death of Dan.
In 1965 about a year after my husband Joe died after being hit by a drunk
driver, the song "Go Down Easy" came out. Yes it made me cry but, it also gave me a sense of relief and even hope. Today when I heard of the death I was trying to remember the name of the song and went to this web site. Thank you for providing me a chance to say thank you and express my sympathy. ~ Evelyn Kennedy
Hello to the family & friends of Dan Fogelberg,
First of all, my most heartfelt condolences in your loss. You are in our prayers during this difficult time. Dan's song "Longer" was my wife Joy and my wedding song on September 25, 1982. We just recently celebrated our 25th anniversary and one of the gifts we received was a Greatest Hits CD with "Longer", along with many other songs that we enjoy so much, on it. Thank you for all of your support that helped to make Dan the entertainer that he was. Now more than ever, we will truly enjoy listening to his music. Please take care and God bless you always. Dan, may you rest in the peace of Christ forever.
Sincerely ~
John Stahlman -

Peace Dan. That is what you gave to me many times as I listened and sang to your music. Your music and legacy will live on forever. ~
Jeanne
We will "...never need more than a prayer to be near you," Dan.
Thanks for the music.
Blessings to his family. ~ Trudi Beck
Your songs inspired me and your songs brought comfort to me. I was never able to see you in
concert as I had once planned, so save me a seat where I'm sure your concerts will
continue. I'll be along some day down the road to listen and watch you at a heavenly
venue. Jean, my heart and prayers are with you as you continue your journey onward. ~
David Byrd - Mesilla Park, New Mexico
To a poet whose songs so touched my soul, travel in bliss."Part or the Plan" albeit too soon. You will be celebrated.
"One day we will all understand." ~ Ariane - NYC
First of all, I am truly saddened by Dan's passing and I have never wrote
condolences to anyone that I did not personally know but I have shed many tears
today. Perhaps for a man whose songs I loved so and since we were so close in age I grew up with his music and have loved it so much. I mourn the thought of him passing so young. God bless his family in this time of sorrow. I hope he did not suffer but, if so, he is at peace now and I know singing in heaven. ~
Debbie Gilbert
We've been sitting here watching You Tube videos of Dan, what great memories.
After twenty years the words return without effort. Amazing.
Our thoughts are with you. ~
Terri & Katie
I can't begin to express the sadness this news has brought - the thought of all of the music that was taken away from us much too soon. Dan's songs have eased my mind and soul for many years, most recently through cancer treatment of my own. He came to be a close friend of mine through his music, and I will always treasure the legacy he left us. My thoughts & prayers are with Jean & all the family ~ Emilie -Grove City PA
