The music always brought peace to my soul. My thoughts and prayers are with
Dan's family.
Sincerely ~
Richard McNally
I was dancing around the kitchen on Sunday, December 16 with my seven year old daughter--we were dancing to
"Same Old Lang Syne". I was telling my two children that Dan Fogelberg is one of my favorite singers; and that
this is my absolute most favorite song. I was devastated to wake up this morning and hear the tragic news of
Mr. Fogelberg's death. He had a voice that I will never forget; and his lyrics were beautiful.
My condolences go out to his wife and family. His songs will always play in my house forever and I will continue
to instill his songs in my small children so that they will grow to appreciate him as they get older. ~
Lisa Tolman,
Mattawamkeag, Maine
Thanks, Dan for your beautiful music that has inspired, comforted, and moved me. You'll always be a favorite. ~
Dan in Nashville
Another star takes its place in the heavens. Shine down on us, Dan.
Dan Fogelberg carried me through hard and desperate times as well as
happy ones. He was and still is the muse for my music and I take greatly
after his legacy. God Bless Dan Fogelberg. Our place here on this planet
is void of a precious jewel both musically and humanly. Sincerely ~ Will
Scott
Such a void that will be left, but such a memory of music that will remain. May the choirs of Heaven be joined by your voice. Jean, may God bless you with comfort and peace. ~
Michael,

Dan's music will live with me until I someday pass.
Oh My God...Dan Fogelberg is gone?
Never! He lives on in music forever.
Thanks so much Mr. Fogelberg for so many memories. I graduated from high school and college in the 70's and moved from the deserts of Arizona to the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains in Washington state to work the first of many radio and TV gigs. I could not of done it without your music. Thank you for the inspiration and the beautiful songs that will live in my heart forever and ever.
My sincere sympathy to the Fogelberg family, you are in my thoughts and prayers. ~
Pat Powers - Phoenix, AZ
To Dan's Family:
My thoughts and prayers are with you. This world was a better place with Dan's music in it. Thank you, Daniel, you're music meant so much to so many.

I feel such an emptiness upon hearing of Dan's passing. I treasured his
music and went to every concert I could. My life was enriched by his
music and I have shared his music with all I meet. So many memories,
both good and sad have been experienced and made more memorable because
of him. He will forever be a part of my life as for so many other of
his fans. ~
Carol Bilderback
Having followed Dan's career for over 30 years and knowing that he had been ill for some time, it still came as a terrible shock to hear of his passing.
It just doesn't seem fair that someone with his unique talent should be taken
away from us at such an early age, but at least his music will live on
forever. A very sad day. ~
Pete Broad, Chester, U.K.
With rare exception, not one evening passes without a Dan
Fogelberg
masterpiece emerging from my guitar into the Heaven surrounding the
majesty of Colorado's Pikes Peak. To have a best friend who you never
met here on earth quite possibly is the truest testament to a much
higher order of things. In the end, it is a short list of people who
have a profound impact on how we live and care and give. Dan will
forever be on the list of friends I seek to find once again. With a
humble tear of appreciation for what he has given to me for over 30
years, as a musician and as a spiritual beacon, I will dedicate his song "The Reach" back to him and to his wife Jean from this day forward. God
Bless. ~
Billy Kauper
May the words he penned so many years ago bring comfort to those he left
behind. "Await your arrival with simple survival and one day we'll all
understand..."
Shine on, Dan. ~

Dan Fogelberg was a huge part of my teenage years. Many is the evening my musician friends and I played our guitars and raised our voices to "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler". Over the years, I may have lost touch with these people who were and are so dear to me, but play for me "Souvenirs", "Wysteria" or "To the Morning" and I see their faces before me, untouched by the 30 years intervening. This is the gift to me of DF's music for which I thank him. My deepest condolences to his wife and loved ones. ~ Laureen (Laurie Burns) de Leeuw
Dear Jean,
It is this simple, there will now be four moments in my life that I will always remember. The moment I heard my Father had died, John Kennedy was dead, John Lennon had been killed, and now the news of your wonderfully talented and gentle husband the great Dan Fogelberg. I will say a prayer for you and yours, for Dan, and for all of us who will struggle through the sadness by remembering all of the happy and memorable moving moments he has given us and the world through his musical genius.
My Condolences ~
J.Dino Vaccaro
Dear Dan,
I am so sorry you are gone. Your songs were an inspiration to me while I
was in high school and college and they helped shape my perception of the
world and remind of what is important. Somehow, I know your spirit survives
in the lives of all the people who were blessed to know you. And while I
only knew you through your songs, I too believe I carry a part of you in my
heart. Thank you, Dan and please know you made the world a richer place in
the short time you were here. ~Paul.
"And here is a sunrise to set on your sill.
The ghosts of the dawn moving near.
They pass through your sorrow and leave you quite still...sitting among souvenirs." Godspeed ~ JLS
'...And maybe there are seasons, and maybe they change. And maybe, to love
is not so strange.' You spoke to me in my youth and still touch me more than 30 years later.
Rest in peace.
To the Fogelberg Family:
Much to my surprise and dismay, I learned of Dan's passing this morning on the radio. Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I am not a person to write such letters to celebrities, however I felt very moved this morning to let you know that prayers are covering your family. Dan touched the world in a very special way--he made a difference in this often difficult world.
May God bless your family, give you the strength to grieve and then heal.
Sincerely ~

Thank you for sharing
with Dan, your lives. Just like everyone else, my

Jean... my heart aches for you. I was devastated by the news of Dan's passing. I was so sure he would beat it. I have loved his music and the man for so many decades. His music and lyrics were the best and will continue to hold a very special place in my heart. My heartfelt prayers to you and the Fogelberg family. With love ~ Wendy Gould - Georgetown, KY
He wasn't just my favorite musician, he was my favorite poet. His gift of music has deeply enriched my life. ~ Tracey Becker Catron
Where are the words and music that Dan Fogelberg could float out of his heart into mine? They are still there and will ever remain floating and beating, carrying me from moment to moment as I live on. My two little girls asked why I was crying today, and I showed them Dan's picture on the website. They listened to some snippets of music. They kissed his picture on the screen and told him to be happy in heaven. I want that for Dan Fogelberg, too. It's just that I wanted more of him for me...selfish me. With Dan's leaving comes the realization that things do end. Even great things and great people. While I await my own turn at "ending with grace," I will stop sometimes to remember the moment I sat high in the stands watching you play your music at a concert in the early 80's. I will remember how the band took a break, but you sat on a stool and continued to play and sing, laughing about how the band needed a rest. I will occasionally touch the cassettes I still have in my possession and play them for my high school students, earnestly watching to see if they hear it, feel it, see it...the beautiful and wonderful thing that was and is and ever will be...Dan Fogelberg.
In deepest respect and with
considerable sadness at your loss ~
Kelly Fox
I am so sad. I really thought he could beat this. To his wife Jean and family, he was a rock who has with his words, held me together since the mid 70's...in good times and in bad. His words to this day, helped to hold me together at all kinds of times. Yet, whatever the "issue", his words made and still make me smile. So much soul, so much truth, so many songs which were not on the radio. His talent was and is absolutely awesome.
May God bless you his family and also his countless fans. Just remember "To The Morning". After hearing of his death last night, I just cannot get the words out of my head - words only a true heart and genius could write, capture, and sing. In closing, I truly don't believe he knew what an effect he had on people. He wasn't like that. He was a true person. God Bless us all, we really have lost a true heart and a "Captured Angel " is looking down, probably wandering "why" so many of us cared and adored him and his work . Peace ~ phly-e
"There's a ring around the moon tonight, and a chill in the air, and a fire in
the stars that hang so near". May the knowledge that so many were touched by
Dan's words and music be a source of comfort for the Fogelberg family. Dan will
be sorely missed. ~

Dear Jean,
I was all of eight years old when I first saw and met your husband in
Hartford, Connecticut. After that meeting, I saved my money and for every holiday
and birthday requested every single piece of Dan's music I could get. As the
years went by and my taste in music changed, I still kept listening to and
buying Dan's music.
He was so kind to me and his music stirs the soul in ways many musicians can
only dream of.
I dreamt of Dan playing his music last week. I am so sorry to know that you
have lost someone so amazing. My best wishes for you and all his family and
those who loved his music as I did.
Dan-
Your music will live on. May your journey be peaceful. ~

This seemed fitting for Dan as we all know how he loved the ocean and ships. RIP Dan ~ Marie NY
Gone From My Sight
by Henry Van Dyke
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship, at my side, spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea
and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone"
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all.
She is just as large in mast, hull and spar as she was when she let my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone," there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
And that is dying...
Dan Fogelberg's music just touches you in a way that most music never comes close to. I'm
so sad that he's gone, but what a treasure he leaves behind. ~ Janeen Hawley
I used to listen to Dan's Greatest Hits tape when I was in collage in the early
80's. My peers were in to "New Wave" Me, "Run for the Roses", "Part of the Plan" and of course ..."Same Old Lang Syne". I used to visualize that song as a movie and even my own life. Especially now, right around Christmas as the song states. Dan was and always will be one of my all time favorite singers and song writers. High Country Snows is one of the best country/pop albums of all time. Windows and Walls - Top notch. Dan, I will miss you and any new music...but I have a bunch of memories listening to your albums. Your life was cut way to short. One of my all time favorite songs is from Exiles. "Seeing you Again"...I wish the music world could. Go now and sing with the angels. Heaven has a much better guitar player. ~ S.V. Shelton Pittsfield Il
Part of me died too when I read of Dan's passing. His music and lyrics defined who I was
and so many of my memories have been associated with them. "There is no Eden or heavenly
gates... That you're gonna make it to one day...But all of the answers you seek can be
found...In the dreams that you dream on the way"......How profound!
If I had known about this web page, I would have said "Thank You" to Dan
Fogelberg. Sadly, I am too late. What a wonderful musician. Nobody writes and
sings music like Dan anymore. I will miss him, and I will continue to listen to
his music...the same music I grew up with. God bless you, Jean. May you find
strength through the songs that will live forever with his fans.
Rest in Peace, Dan.
To The Family of Dan Fogelberg, Mr Fogelberg's singing and songwriting was the soundtrack to many of our lives. He will be sadly missed and his CD (Best Of) will stay in my car's CD player, as it has been for years. I send my sincerest sympathy and prayers to his family and close friends. ~

I was so sad to receive the email this morning about Dan's passing. My deepest thoughts
and prayers go out to his family and friends. His soulful voice and inspirational music
evoke so many warm and vivid memories from my past. Dan's music will live on and thanks
to the internet, so will his performances. His songs will always bring me nostalgic
comfort. Jean, wishing you solace and peace during these difficult times. ~ Nancy Lattanzi • New York City
When I heard the news late last night I felt as though a part of me died also. I've only had two favorite singers James Taylor and Dan. I had always wanted to see you in person and tell you all that you meant to me but suffice it to say that my lowest times and my highest times we're shared by the two of you. You shared with me your insights on life, your pain, your laughter and brought me from the brink of despair many times and when it's my turn to leave behind this frame of dust you and James will be there to help those I leave behind. Thanks for being there and I will pray for Jean and the rest of the family and thank you for sharing with us a special soul. ~

Let us celebrate the life of Dan Fogelberg. Because of his beautiful spirit,
he never can be lost to us. When I think of him, it will be as if he is out
sailing just beyond the Reach. Dan always could say it better than anyone so
here are his words: "I tried to say something that was clever and clear but the only thing I wrote was that
'I wish you were here.'"
Wow - a bright light that will always shine in my life!! He lived life and wrote
about it then sang it! My husband and I listened him every time we were together when we dated, every time!! We never tired of it!!! We still love all of his music and were fortunate to be able to hear him in concert in Nashville, TN!! God Bless You Jean!! I am glad he found another love!! To his family we feel your loss and pray for God peace on you! He will be missed but never forgotten! ~
Lesia and Mike Mitchell,

Thank you Dan for sharing your musical gifts with all
of us. The true measure of a man is how much pleasure,
joy and happiness he can bring to others. You did this
all and more with your music and love of life. I know
you go on Dan. I have no doubt of it. We will all meet
again someday so the sadness I feel, and others feel
now will only seem like the blink of an eye. Again,
thanks Dan. You made all the hard times so much easier
to get through.
Peace ~ Ed
My prayers are with Jean and the rest of Dan's family and friends. I know what families go through when a loved one is in a fight with cancer and I pray that God gives you peace, strength and hope. When I heard about Dan's passing, I felt as though I had lost someone I knew very well. His music was the result of a talent given by God and now God has decided to call that talent home. God speed Dan, you will be missed. ~

up with your music. God bless you and your family. You will be so very missed. ~ DD
I was so very sorry to hear of his passing. The last I had heard, I thought
he was doing well. He will be sorely missed both as a person and also as an
amazing artist. I have all of his cd's and will treasure them even more now My thoughts go to his family and friends. ~

life. You will live on always thru the wonderful gift of your music

all the lives you touched. Rest in peace, brother. ~ Lisa & Don
I am a long time fan and his passing will leave a void in my life and my music.
I love and will always love your beautiful and inspiring music. Thank you.
I think I'm still in shock over the news of Dan Fogelberg's death. There
are so many of his songs that have touched my heart through the years. A great
voice has been silenced too soon!!! My thoughts go out to his family and
friends. I'll miss you Dan! ~ Lori Nugent in Lebanon, Tennessee
To the family and many friends and fans of Dan Fogelberg, God bless and comfort all of you. To his wife Jean, thank you for sharing this wonderful man with the rest of us. My husband Dan shares his exact birth day, month and year, and is from Maine...it truly is a small world! Dan's songs will live in the hearts and minds of us all for eternity. Godspeed Dan. ~
Linda M-Thompson's Station, TN
Dan Fogelberg, just the name brings so many memories, comfort, and love. I grew up with
your music. I have all your albums, yes albums not cd's. I loved the Captured Angel album and would listen to it every night in my twenty's. The song "Same Old Lang Syne"
really hit home, but I am sure you are hearing this many many times. My only regret was
never seeing you in person. For that I am truly sorry, we all think we are so "Young"
and forever. But, I am grieving, never personally knowing you but every time I listen to
your music I am so full of love. I truly have never been touched by an artist as "Dan
Fogelberg". Rest in Peace. ~ Virginia, Crystal River, Fl.
I have only heartwarming and loving thoughts for Dan Fogelberg. I remember him from the 70s and followed his music endlessly. He was bright, warm, sensitive, and more importantly, based on his music, a one-in-a-million human being. His music is legendary and had the power to make you understand the importance of endurance and strength through life's many obstacles. He will be missed terribly. My tender thoughts are with Dan and his grieving family. I am so sorry for this world's tragic loss.
I met Dan in Cleveland at a concert. He took the time to talk to me and my
daughter. That was on Father's Day. He will be missed. His music was special.
"Leader Of The Band" was the father daughter dance at my daughter's wedding
reception. I cannot express my deepest sorrow enough to your family. It has
affected me deeply.
Sincerely ~
Mike Hahn
Jean, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Dan, thank you for allowing us all
to
be a part of your innermost thoughts all these years. You will truly be
missed. ~ JB
A HUGE loss for music, and for those of us who loved his sensitive lyrics, melodies and solo concerts. This, for me, is "The Day the Music Died" that Don McLean wrote about. My heart and prayers are with you, his loved ones, as you struggle to accept and deal with the void he leaves in your lives.
I saw Dan in concert more times than I can count. While he was wonderful with his band, I loved his solo concerts most of all. He was easily the most talented artist I've ever seen. His wide variety of ability first dawned on me in reading the cover of his Phoenix album: music, lyrics, lead vocals, background vocals, keyboards, guitar, album cover design. Then flute with Tim Weisberg on Twin Sons of Different Mothers and No Resemblance Whatsoever.
My favorites will always be "Ghosts", "Believe in Me", "Windows and Walls", "Only the Heart May Know", "Seeing You Again" -- not the ones for which he is most known, but the ones he wrote for me, without his knowing it.
Thank you, Dan. May God bless you and give your loved ones courage and strength in the days and years ahead. You will be missed more than you know. ~
Kathleen Brouillette
My heart broke today. I feel as though I lost a very good friend. Dan's music has been such an important part of my life for a very long time. I have passed the love of Dan Fogelberg on to my sons. They share in my condolences and sadness. ~
Michelle McDonel
I'm sad. He touched my life. ~ Kathy
My thoughts and prayers are with Dan's family at this time. I can never
repay the amount of joy his music has given me over the years. I know that
most people know Dan for the popular tunes, but I loved them all. I will
always be sad that I can never enjoy another concert. They were the best and
he always made the audience feel that he was just singing to his friends. ~
Robin
We have lost a wonderful person but the angels are singing with him
tonight.
So sad to lose such a talented person. His music will live for a long, long
time and touch many people.
A long-time music lover.
Thank you Dan. You made a sound that carries us all, and will last forever. Your Friends ~ Kev, Sam and the entire Summer at 513 Gang.
I have never been moved to tears over the passing of a 'celebrity' as I
was when I heard the news about Dan. My older sister had the "Captured
Angel" album in the 70s and I became an instant fan of the music and the
lyrics and can proudly say that I have a copy of every piece of Dan's
music that is available for purchase. My sister got married and left home
but I hid that "Captured Angel" album so she would not take it with her
and I still have it today! Dan's music has been my inspiration through
tough times and has been the soundtrack of my good times - my husband and
I, like so many others, chose "Longer" as one of our wedding songs. I
grew up in PA and moved to OH and have seen Dan in concert 6 or 7 times.
One of my personal favorite songs is "Old Tennessee" - I cannot even
estimate how many times I have listened to that song with the volume
turned up full blast - something about the lyrics to that song is so
beautiful and every time he played that in concert, it was always my
favorite part - the song just 'comes to life' each time I hear it. His
music fills my soul and my children have grown up listening to it also and
have heard all about my obsession with the songs. I remember teaching my
oldest son the words to "Morning Sky" when he was about 5 years old and
how proud he was when he could sing the first verse at the same speed as
the record! Don't know now why we chose that song, I think he just liked
it coz it was really fast! Dan's music and beautiful poetic lyrics will
always be a part of who I am and I will treasure my collection of his
music always. My heart goes out to Dan's loved ones and close friends as
I am sure that someone who touched the lives of strangers with his gift
was a very special person indeed and will be greatly missed by those that
loved him personally. Dan will always be alive in the hearts of all who
embraced his music and lyrics. His voice will be a great addition to the
Heavenly Choir. ~ Diane G Columbus OH
Our world has lost a great voice, no other can match. You will surely be missed
by all your family, friends, and fans. I know you have touched the lives of
many. I myself am deeply saddened. Your music will continue through the years
for more generations to enjoy. Peace is with you now. God Bless your wife Jean,
and your family. ~ Suzanne, Dearborn,MI
We are truly saddened. Dan's music was woven into the fabric of our lives. Now
the emotions his music touched will be amplified by the realization that he has
gone. In deepest sympathy ~ Greg and Michelle Tompkins
My band just learned "Same Old Lang Syne" for the upcoming Christmas/New Year
jobs.
How sad I am to learn that Dan has left us.
His songs will remain in my heart and memories for all time. ~

Dear Jean:
I know you have heard this many, many times but your husband's music truly
touched my life. His album first came out when I was in high school. I listened
to it until I knew every word of every song and the order of the songs on the
album. I saw him in concert three times. I wish it were more. The funny thing
about all this is not that long ago I was wondering why I hadn't heard anything
from him in a while. I only wish I would have looked on his web site. I would
have known he was ill and could have told him how much I loved his music. Of
course I had a bit of a crush on him; who couldn't with his good looks.
My heart goes out to you and your family. I know he will be sorely missed.
You will all be in my prayers. ~
Joan Phinn,
Exton, PA
I saw Dan in concert some 30 years ago, and even in a large arena he still had the power to move me to tears. His music has been woven through the years of our lives and he will be missed.
To Dan and those closest to him. I was first exposed to Dan's music at the young age of 12. It was the Innocent Age album and what an album it is. My sister and brother sang a duet of "Only the Heart May Know" and at that point I was hooked. Later I was introduced to his Home Free album which to this day is my favorite. I love "To The Morning". Phoenix and High Country Snows are also memorable, as "Go Down Easy" reminded me of a girlfriend I had. I was privileged to see him twice in concert and was blown away by his talents both times. Like John Denver before him, this was an abrupt departure and he will be sorely missed. I thank him for leaving us his music as a legacy. It is truly something to treasure and enjoy for years to come. My sincere condolences to friends and family. ~ John Huston, Monterey Ca
I have been a fan since my college days, beginning in 1977. Dan's music helped me grow into the adult that I am today. The messages of his lyrics are held deep in my heart. I will miss him greatly. ~
RK,
Sunrise, Florida
I came across Dan via my roommate in college in 1977. He brought with him Nether Lands and I was mesmerized. What beautiful songs, what lyrics. They described my melancholy feelings at that time of my life perfectly.
I did not know that Dan was ill and I was so so sad to see the news in the LA Times today. I wish there were more artists like Dan around. I am a Christian and I do not know Dan's beliefs but I pray that he knew my Lord.
Please know that your family is certainly in my prayers today and will be for a while as you go through your pain in the loss of Dan. The world is better for having his music.
Sincerely ~
Jody Evans
I am so sad as a big part of my childhood is gone. He was my oasis when I was a
kid as I am disabled. I lost my aunt to bladder/bone cancer and I know what he
went through. His music will live on forever if we want it to.
Dan had a gift which he gave to the world. He touched so many of us with his
beautiful words and music. His songs got us through our worst times and
celebrated
with us in our best times. His is a legacy that truly lives on. I named my
son Daniel and played Dan's music for him as a baby. At the age of two, my son
named our new puppy Fogelbert. Thank you Dan, and sincere condolences to your
wife and family.
I loved him. His was the first album I purchased. I have been all over the country for his concerts. I went thru a breakup in 1987, I felt his Exiles album was written just for me. I lost my dear husband 2 years ago. Jean, I am so sorry. Please know that he was loved by many and feel our love and let it be a comfort to you.
God's Blessings to all Dan's family and friends, Thanks for the
wonderful
blessings that was thru the songs and spirit which will always be
remembered as a part of what and how precious our emotions and relations of
life are. The value and the beauty thru the music that Dan gave us have
left the permanent memories that will live on not only with his
contributions but the countless musical disciples left to carry on much like
my 12 year old son, and all your sons and daughters. I know the heavens will
be proud to have their newest angel with the sweetest voice and heart to
join the Leader of The Band. ~

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Fogelberg family this evening. We first learned of Dan's passing Sunday evening and our hearts skipped a beat. Dan touched many of us through his music. He was gifted and in turn we were blessed to have had him in our lives. Jean may you find peace. There is no pain like that of losing someone that you love so deeply; I know. One breath and one day at a time. You will pull through. Dan would want you to. ~
The McKenzie Family Louisville, Ky.
Godspeed Dan as you go on your way. I will miss you and your music greatly. To
Jean and family, my heartfelt condolences and prayers are with you all. I was
truly shocked when my wife called me this afternoon to tell me of Dan's passing.
We both loved his music so very much - and as a musician, I'd always hoped that
someday I might have the opportunity to work with him. It was peaceful and happy
music, and was one of the things my wife and I had in common as we dated. Our
children have heard the music (a lot!), and will carry it on as well.
I too have started on the journey, as I was diagnosed with PCa this past August, and am on hormone therapy at the present following my prostatectomy. Men - I'm 51, with no family history, and I had absolutely NO symptoms - only a 4.5 PSA on my annual physical last February. Don't wait! My disease is also very aggressive, and hopefully we've caught it early enough - my PSA's only reached 6.9 before my biopsy - so get checked! As Dan said, education and awareness are the key - and don't assume it will strike someone else - I'm a walking testament to that philosophy. Remember, testing could save your life.
Rest in peace Dan. ~ Terry Douds, Lancaster, Ohio
I am so sorry to hear of Dan's death. I was in tears - I have so many
memories associated with his music. I saw him in concert twice - what a
wonderful experience! To his wife, Jean, and family - wishing you peace during a difficult time. ~ Lynn in Minnesota
I am so saddened to learn that Dan has lost his fight with cancer. What an amazing person he was. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, his music and his legacy. May God welcome you into His gates with outstretched arms, Dan. You are and always will be my favorite artist of all time. My prayers and thoughts go out to Dan's family and friends as they go through the very difficult times ahead. Let's all celebrate Dan's life and be encouraged in the fact that he is with the Lord. God bless you.
What sad news to hear of Dan's passing today. Like so many, I've been
blessed by the heartfelt messages Dan expressed in song for most of my life.
Souvenirs was one of the first record albums I bought, at sixteen, and I've
enjoyed so many "albums" since then. We have laughed and cried and dreamed
to his music and words, and few storytellers could compare with him.
We each have a few special songs from Dan that really move us, for me, those
two are "To The Morning", and "Song From Half Mountain" (and "The Reach" and "Stars" and... forget it, there are too many to name...)
Every Dan Fogelberg song will now be a little bittersweet, knowing that he's
gone, but we all know that he'll live on in his music forever.
I wish Jean and Dan's extended family peace and comfort at this time, and
hope that the thoughts and prayers of countless friends and "fans" provide
some solace.
Dan, you are loved and we will all miss you. ~ Glenn,
Lacey, Washington
Dan has been my favorite singer/songwriter since the 70's and I will continue to
enjoy his music until it is my time to go. His love of nature and the environment was evident in many of his songs and I will continue to do my best to protect both. Dan's passing leaves a vast emptiness in many of our hearts, yet our souls will continue to be soothed by his music. ~
A grateful fan in Florida
Dearest Dan,
I thank you for helping me help myself, through extremely difficult
times. I hope to be able to be of help and compassion to others as you
were. Your song that I have patterned my life after is "Along The
Road", which ironically, I would like played at my own services when I
pass on.
"Along the road, your steps may stumble, your thoughts may start to
stray, but through it all a heart held humble levels and lights your
way". Best wishes on your new journey! ~
Sam Grande
Dan's music has forever touched my life, I shall always remember the artist, the songs, the lyrics. May God be with you and your family at this difficult time. Thank you for sharing him with us.
May he rest in peace.
As a young musician, Dan's music inspired me throughout my journey toward my music degree, which I use everyday. It was just last week I used "Leader of the Band" to demonstrate form of Popular Music to one of my 8th grade general music classes. I even took the time to tell them of Dan's legacy, his fame, his amazing talent for song writing and singing, and I mentioned his battle with cancer. Today I recalled to them the song we diagramed the form of last week and I informed them that he had indeed passed away yesterday morning. We listened again to the song with the lights off in silence. So his legacy truly does live on as music educators, parents, friends, fans and loved ones teach future generations the greatness of this most inspiring musician. My daughters and I have sung his songs together since they were small children. As their ears and voices developed, we routinely sing the harmonies a cappella together just as a way to remind us that we love each other.
My sister undoubtedly welcomed him into the other side as she passed too early too. She was a huge fan and actually was who first played his music for me...she about 18 and I 13. Thirty years later I'm still listening and will continue to do so. My deepest sympathy during this sad time. He was too young! Fondly ~Callie D'Addio, Windsor, CT
I was a big fan of Dan's music. He has written the best ballads ever. I will truly miss him and his music. I started listening to Dan in 1077 and had to go back and buy every album he had done (which I still own). I believe that The Innocent Age was my favorite. I saw Dan perform on Thursday, July 24, 1980 in Colorado Springs, CO. This show was done with no one else on stage but Dan and I was blown away. What a performer. I wish his family the best and may he rest in peace. ~ Dave Daniels
I first heard Dan's music while driving away from the end of a 7-year relationship. His
music carried me for miles and years as I moved my life along - sometimes in excitement,
sometimes in sadness, always feeling connected to the voice, the music and those lyrics
which so eloquently captured the essence of being human. I'll keep him with me for as
long as my road runs. My deepest sympathy to Jean. ~

It was the summer of 1980. Fresh out of high school and madly in love with the prettiest girl I ever laid eyes on when I first heard your music. "Longer" was to be our wedding song. Although it never happened, I found a kindred spirit in your music. I once heard you say in an interview that you really didn't write from personal experiences. Well you did from mine. From the wonders of love, to love gone bad and the love of the wild places you said it all for me and I thank you for that. You've taken your place on the spirit trail now, but your music will live on. Vaya con dios amigo.
Whew. I was hoping and praying that you would beat this disease. The
musical world loses a huge contribution today. Your music has touched my
heart for over 20 years. The magical concerts you shared at Red Rocks are
some of the greatest shows I have ever seen. Those who have been there know
how truly magical they were. Today I am playing your songs and trying to
smile knowing that your music will live on in all the hearts and voices of
those you touched. You will be missed dearly. To your wife and family- God's
strength and courage. ~ Carla Parker Denver, CO.
Jean,
There are no words adequate to express the condolences I wish to convey.
You and I have never met, as a matter of fact neither had Dan or I,
physically. The man however met so many through his voice, his music,
his gift. You have my best wishes through these hard times. The one
thing I wish I could give back to you, Dan, unfortunately I can not.
May you continue to live in peace each day having had the precious time
you had with such a precious individual.
Only the best ~
Marc
My deepest
sympathy to Jean and the family. The shock hit me hard. I have a strange
story...I credit Dan's music in resulting in the miraculous birth of my son who
is 10 years old now. I lived in Houston and through Dan's music I became
convinced I had to move to Colorado. I chose the Boulder area. I met my son's
father near Boulder, in Lafayette. He had moved from California just weeks
before. I thought it very strange that things turned out the way they did, he
moved back to California and I moved back to Austin with the baby. Then I
realized the miracle, my son, thanks to Dan's music. We visited Nederland
several times and I felt a "Dan presence." I don't miss the snow but I will definitely miss Dan....Rest in Peace. ~ Carol, Austin, Texas
"Joy at the start. Fear in the journey. Joy in the coming home.
A part of the heart gets lost in the learning. Somewhere along the road.
Along the road your steps may stumble. Your thoughts may start to stray.
But through it all a Heart held humble levels and lights your way."
I will always love and miss you Dan.
Your music meant so much for so long. Thanks. ~ Tommy
God bless you Dan Fogelberg, and love and prayers to you Jean and the
rest of the family. There is an Indian saying that those are not stars, but
smiles from our loved ones in Heaven letting us know that they are happy.
There is a new star with a Heavenly voice singing now. God bless ~ Katie,
Barstow, CA.
The man may be gone, but your music will still be touching lives generations from now. You will be missed. ~

The loss of Dan Fogelberg isn't only the loss of a man, it is the loss
of a spirit that has helped guide many souls through their darkest, and
their finest hours. Unfortunately "The good do die young!" The
world will shine a little dimmer without Dan Fogelberg.
Sincerely ~
Armand
I will miss you and your gift . The best is at rest! I have all your music. Thankfully I saw you at Madison Wisconsin Civic
Center in 2003. What a great show as always. In the 7 shows I attended throughout
the years, there will never be another as great and talented as Dan. It's not possible!
My thoughts are with Jean and the Fogelberg family. May God help you through
this spiritual time. ~ DAVE P
I just don't know how to begin to thank him. I just don't know. He left me with so much, so many, many memories. He was the musical thread that tied me together with so many friends. We loved him. We reveled in him. He's the reason I picked up a guitar and learned to play, a feeble attempt to learn his songs, to emulate him. He serenaded us at Red Rocks with a brilliant full autumn moon as his backdrop. I'll never forget it. He left us with beautiful melodies and touching lyrics. I thank him for sharing his thoughts, feelings, gifts and talents. He certainly added enrichment to mine and so many others lives. He was a pleasure.
And thank you Jean, for the comfort and happiness I know you gave to him during your years together. While I know you grieve, I also hope you realize your extreme fortune in having been such a significant part of his life and he yours and I hope you can find joy and gratitude in that. I'm confident you do. He was really rare and he'll never be lost to any us. What a lovely legacy he leaves. So, thank you, Dan. On behalf of all of us that celebrated life with your music as our score. ~Buddy, Butch, Fox, Burnsie, Hut, Thayer and me, Mary B. Bertotti, Columbus, IN
Wow, memories of innocence and simpler times are flooding through me
now. Remembering the concerts, the road trips with friends listening to
Dan and of course, quiet times with my special one, Dan's gentle voice
in the background. Thank you Dan for sharing your God given talent with
us. You did touch our hearts but there is no doubt, Heaven is enjoying
you now. ~

Thanks Dan, may the eternal Journey be as beautiful as your music. ~ S.G.
So sad. A more important musical performer never existed in my life. So sad. ~

I have a CD of Dan Fogelberg's on as I write to his family. He had such a
excellent voice. His passing will not be forgotten. He's in Peace now. ~

One of the great songwriters of our time. He played the kind of music that you
would very often find yourself totally taken by the heartfelt lyrics of his
music. He will be remembered.
Hi to his wife Jean. I'm so sorry for your loss. He was a good man and he
wrote really great songs. We will miss him. I'll pray for you. May God give you peace at this time. It won't be the same without him. My daughter Paula had a stroke Sunday. She is not good. She has 7 kids and is only 34 years old. Take care ~ rena sanderson
Dan, when I look to Heaven I will forever see you there among the stars and hear your
song in my heart. It has been a humble pleasure to be allowed to experience Dan's music
and poetry. He has been such a
part of my life for the past 33 years and my children grew up to his beautiful
accompaniment. Blessings to you Jean, family and friends. May we all share in the peace
Dan has found. God Bless ~ Yvonne Harrell, Oregon
My deepest sympathies... Dan helped me through college with his music. He will be greatly missed by so many of us who associate his beautiful music with cherished times in our lives. ~

Thank you Mr. Fogelberg. I always felt that if I was a gifted
musician/singer/songwriter, I would create music like yours. However I am not. I give
you my gratitude for writing/singing the music that I never could. Thank you for
representing my dreams in the real world. You and your music will continue to be an
inspiration to me through out my life. ~ Jack Fischrup Piedmont CA.
You'll always be a living legacy...even now when you're with the "leader of the band"... ~

A couple of weeks ago, I was alone in my living room, and Dan's music
suddenly came on during random play. I thought of how far he had come spiritually,
and wondered what was now going on in his life. I had wanted to go to his
website to find out, but didn't, hadn't been there in a few years. Then
yesterday, all I did was feel blue and cry---without even knowing why. Let's not
forget how we all are connected through his music. I saw him several times in
concert, and what a masterful artist he was (is). Love and life go on, and now
his music is of the spheres. I hope all of your fans get to see you in concert
somewhere in the stars, Dan. Longer ~ Cornelia

The angels in heaven greeted the newcomer with open arms. Heaven, we know just got a little bit sweeter. Dan is a legend to anyone out there who was lucky enough to listen to his inspirational music. He truly was a huge part of what makes me who I am as a result of listening to his music...DVD....and seeing him in concerts. He could paint a picture of any mountain scene or of the "Reach" off the shores of Maine, and the roaring seas that he loved so much. He could tell a story that you could relate to and it was like being there experiencing it as he did. To his brothers: "...one went to Chicago, and the other to St. Paul..." and to his mother and father (I know his father, "...the Leader of the Band" is up There with him now.....)Thank you for all that you did in raising / and growing up with Dan to shape your brother / son into what he has become. You too have shaped so many lives indirectly through Dan. And to Jean - you are so lucky to have experienced a man with such deep insight and appreciation of the beauty around him. But he is equally lucky to have finally found the woman that gave him true happiness. Thank you for hanging tough with Dan throughout his battle with cancer and just being there for him. I love the pictures of you both posted on the website. May the Lord who gave us / you Dan, give you much comfort in the days to come. Know that the Lord is a good God and put your faith and trust in Him. Dan is with Jesus in heaven celebrating for his job well done during his time on earth!! Peace be with you! ~ Kim Z.
Dan,
Thanks for all the wonderful years of some of the greatest songs ever sung.
You're singing in Heaven now my brother and someday I hope to hear you again
in person! I've been a fan since 1976 and still listen to your music.
Blessings ~

I thought of him often the past few days.
I was walking the airport, looking out at the bay,
the snow storm filling the bay with a blistery white.
I heard of Dan's passing when the leader played.
I stopped . Some much he gave me in his music, his art.
And in the end, I took his advice and was tested.
I have been sad, I have enjoyed life more with the songs that he wrote and
played. ~
Donny.
Dan Fogelberg's music was a blessing to us. Our condolences go to his family in their time of loss. His music and legacy will live on in our hearts forever. Sincerely ~ Lauren and Rich Notestine, Toledo, Ohio
"The leader of the band is tired and his eyes are growing old but his blood runs through my instrument and his song is in my soul. My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band."
Dan Fogelberg we will miss you. RIP ~

Had the pleasure to meet Dan twice, the second time with his wife Jean who is a lovely
and gentle soul. The very first album I ever received, Home Free, was from my brother
when I was 12, some 31 years ago. Every other Dan album, I have been lucky to collect.
We were lucky to have his work, though his time here was not enough. Bless his wife
Jean and his family and thank you to them for sharing him with us. The world is a colder
place without him.
I would just like to say that one of my regrets in my life was not being able to see Mr. Fogelberg in concert because he was a great in the music
industry, both in talent and passion for the wonderful music he created. I have
played his greatest hits over and over today. Thank you for sharing your talent
with the world Dan! ~

To my longtime friend: I love you and will miss you greatly.
To the Morning... ~

I first heard your music in 1975 while in my freshman year in college in
Tennessee. My favorite song has always been "Old Tennessee." Your concert at the
old Ellis Auditorium (now the Cannon Center) in Memphis was to me your best
performance. I am so honored to have your albums. You will be greatly missed
but knowing you are in a better place where there is no sickness and all the
wounds of this world are forever healed is great comfort. Thank you for your
music...it will live on. ~

My prayers and thoughts to the family of Dan. He was a living legend and his
music will be his legacy. ~
