I know that we only knew the music, and you the family knew the man. I simply cannot express deeply enough my sincere sympathy for your loss. I received a call from my brother who grew up watching me love Dan Fogelberg's music because he knew I would be heartbroken at the loss of a wonderful, creative, musical genius. My heartfelt desire is that the world will let you know how much we loved your Dan for all the gifts we were able to share through his music. I only have to close my eyes to see him sitting behind that beautiful grand piano at UTC arena in Chattanooga, Tennessee playing his heart out to entertain all of us. I have pictures of that wonderful, magical night in 1981 - I am sure I am only one of millions who is saddened today at the loss of a master. Dan Fogelberg will live forever in the hearts of those whose lives he touched forever. Perhaps in time you will gain some strength from knowing he remains - always - in the hearts of those who loved him all these years. ~ Lisa Nichols - Cherry Log, Georgia
Dear Dan,
I've listened to your songs since I was a child. Like most good things you think it will last forever. As long as I can remember your music was always there. I woke up this morning to hear of your passing. It saddened me that you were no longer with us. I hope that you are now in a better place where you and your father can lead the band. Thank you for all the years and memories.

To All,
My wife Kristina, and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary
on the 3rd of January, 2008. Dan's song "Longer" has been "Our" song since
the day we met. I purchased the song on 45 shortly after my wife and I met
and gave it to her. Our thoughts go out to Dan's family and friends. Dan
will be sadly missed as he has brought happiness to our lives in many ways
through his songs. May he rest in peace.
I am just so sad. I loved Dan's music so much. It came at a formidable
time in my life and it truly helped to shape me and my relationships with
others. I haven't listened to his music in a long time but when I listened
to "Same Old Lang Syne" at the news of his passing I could feel it in my stomach -
just like I felt it the first time I heard it so long ago. What a feeling
of loss I feel all these years later.
My thoughts go to his wife and loved ones at this sad time.
~ Tom in Florida.
I fell in love with your music and poetry back in the 70's...and still admire your blessed talent. My heart goes out to your loved ones. Thanks for the years of beautiful words and music. I hope your father was awaiting your entrance into the eternal light! God bless your life, your loves and your legacy!
Dear Jean and Family...
I was saddened to hear of Dan's Passing, and will always remember his Music and Songs. Our thoughts and Prayers are with you.

Ever since I found out about his death I've been truly saddened. Dan
was a provider of inspiration and peace to me during turbulent years for
which I will always be grateful. My prayers and condolences to his
family. We are fortunate that he leaves such a legacy of wonderful
music.
Rest in peace, dear Dan - you are now Home Free. Thanks for the music.~ Risa - listener of 36 years
For over thirty years, I have listened to Dan. Sometimes when I was lonely. Mostly I
shared the music with the one I love. Always coming away inspired. Having seen Dan in
different venues, I treasure the time he played acoustically on stage. There are far too
many songs to say which is my favorite. From "Scarecrows Dream" to "Dancing Shoes" to
"Souvenirs", I can only tell you Dan touched my heart and my life more than any other
artist. He is one of a kind. He was like a good friend , always there. For that I will
never forget him. God bless Dan, his family, his friends and his legions of faithful fans.

Thank You, Your Family must be proud.
To Dan's Family,
I can't say how saddened I am for your loss. I can say that Dan's spirit will live on in
his music and lyrics. He has been a very big influence in my life since 1975 in Tucson,
AZ.
I have had words with God this morning on his behalf. Every time I pick up my Taylor I
will say a prayer for him and then play a few of his bars.
I wish you peace and I know you will find it. I wish you God's speed because I know he is
there with you. From my Family to you all my deepest condolences.

I believe Dan was one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time. He will truly be missed but his music will live forever. Dan you were one of my great inspirations. You will forever live in the hearts and minds of everyone. A true musical legend. ~ Vernon Smith - St. Louis , Mo.
I am so sad today. When I was in my late teens and early 20s and heard Dan Fogelberg's music, I fell in love with him. No other singer has touched my heart as he has. I just knew that I would marry him someday and he would sing songs to me that had been inspired by how much he loved me.
I enjoy many artists today, and a couple have been favorites for a long time, but no one has been a favorite of mine as long as Dan and his music. He has always held the highest place in my heart for a songwriter and musician. His music will live in my heart and my home for years and years. My deepest condolences to his wife, family and friends. God bless you all!

His lyrics and songs were so very special and I loved his music and his soulfulness.
Our thoughts are with you. The struggle is now over and he is at peace with all the others who went before him....and they are jamming in their new reality on the other side.
I will comfort myself by playing his music and enjoying his poetry. Hang in there and his legacy will continue forever. ~

I had the opportunity to see Dan during the 'Phoenix" tour in Austin, TX. It was one of the finest concerts I have had the privilege to attend and the musicianship was unsurpassed.
The best memory of his career, for me, will be the song "Leader of the Band". I also had a strong relationship with my father.
Dan will be missed. The world has lost a great musician, songwriter, and activist, but is a better place, due to his contribution.
~ Regards From Texas
I am so thankful for the two times I got to see Dan in concert, and will never forget them. He has brought me much joy and inspiration through his music over the last 30 years. It is hard to believe he is gone, and he'll be sadly missed. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. His memory will always live on through his great music! Thanks Dan, for giving me great memory's of my own. ~ Ralph from N.J.

Dan Fogelberg's poetry and music helped to set the course of my life's journey.
I am 55 years old, and have been a fan for many many years.

I was very saddened to learn of Dan's passing. I had just checked his website to see how he was doing. My husband and I saw Dan in concert here in Portland many years ago and we still talk about what a great show he put on. I've always loved his music. My condolences to his wife Jean and his family. ~ Kathy
I was so very saddened to read of Dan's passing yesterday. Today, I've
listened to some of my favorite songs of his and I find myself crying and
unable to stop.
He was taken from us way, way too soon and the world is a much sadder place
today without him.
But he left a wonderful legacy for us and future generations to enjoy. His
music was so personal and heartfelt that you couldn't help but be touched
by it.
My favorite will always be "Same Old Lang Syne". There's just something
about that story that touches a chord in all of us. Who among us hasn't
run into an old lover or friend, unexpectedly, and found ourselves thinking
of our lost youth, opportunities missed, good times that are only memories
now? The song is so poignant and sad. It says, more clearly than anything
else, that you can never truly go back again.
To Dan's family and friends - my deepest condolences on this terrible loss.
Please know that his countless fans across the globe are grieving along
with you.
To Dan - I just know you're making beautiful music in heaven with your
father, "The Leader of the Band".
I am so saddened by this news of Dan Fogelberg's passing. His beautiful, emotional, melodious voice and music will always live on but I'm so sad that he's gone.....but never to be forgotten. My condolences to his family. Far too young. The world seems different right now, just learning of his passing. A lump in my throat for someone I never knew. ~
Sandra F.
So saddened to hear of Dan's passing. An early inspiration of mine to play
guitar, his songs were always so heartfelt. "To the Morning", "Make Love Stay"
"Illinois", "Stars" "Souvenirs", these and so many other songs of Dan's live on
to further his sweet spirit. I'll see you soon my friend in our home above
with the Lord. God's blessings to his family and friends. ~ Scott Wigley
I can't remember a time when I didn't listen to Dan's music. His insightful and poetic lyrics have meant so much to me. He will be missed! Jean, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
My husband, best friend and I were deeply saddened by Dan's passing. We have been
following him since we were in college, for about 35 years now. We had the pleasure of
seeing him perform numerous times in concert, we were there every time he toured in our
area. His music and lyrics were extraordinary, his talent was enormous. My condolences
go out to his family. He will surely be missed but will live on through the songs which
he left us.

I am so saddened to hear that Dan passed away. I just can't believe he is
gone. I received the email this morning before I went to work that he had
passed. What a sad day for all those who love him, but I know that God

you peace and comfort Jean, and to Dan I want you to know how much I
honored you as a singer and as a person. Thank you for all the wonderful

Thank you for touching my heart so deeply throughout my life. Your lyrics and incredible
music nursed me through teenage angst, young married romance, powerful 40-something
success and now middle age. My husband and I have shared a love of Fogelberg music over
25 years. You're amazing! May you soar forever more, hopefully high in the Nether Lands. ~

Thank you not only for the music Dan, but for the words
as well. Your talent for crafting them together brought us a powerful
feeling of emotion that will live on and on. You enriched our lives.

A belated thank you to Dan Fogelberg: I moved to Maine in 1987 in pursuit of my art, my photography. I rented a house there and created a makeshift gallery in my one-car garage to display my photographs of my new found state of Maine. To say I was the new kid on the block was understating it significantly. I and my then wife Ginger weren't at home much of the time and so we created a "help yourself, honor system" gallery in the oil soaked garage/gallery attached to the tiny home we rented with the garage door always open for walk-ins. On my return home from a shooting trip Ginger told me the story of how she was working in the house and heard someone in the garage gallery. She was surprised to find a man and woman sitting on their bicycles in the garage looking at my work. The man told her he was interested in buying one of the larger framed photographs but did not have his checkbook with him and could she hold it until the next day when he would return to purchase it. Ginger said she would do that but could she have his name? Fogelberg, he said was his last name. She said "As in Dan?" He replied "Yes" and returned the next day to pick up the print. Those first years for me as an artist/photographer were demanding and difficult beyond words. When I moved only on an intuitive notion I hoped there would be signs along the way to help me stay my course and pursue my passion of art photography but signs seemed few and far between. This event, so seemingly casual to the world was a bolt of inspirational lightning coming to me from an empty sky. To imagine an artist of such talent and renown wanted to own and enjoy my work was a sign of great significance to me and gave me comfort as well as courage to persevere. I had only a few meetings with Dan over the next two decades though he always seemed to be standing somewhere in the periphery of my photographic vision of Maine. I never heard his wonderful song "The Reach" without knowing we shared the same vision of the Maine Coast and expressed it in our own ways. When my book "Maine; the Seasons" was published and Dan was sent a gratis copy by the publisher I received a wonderful and heartfelt letter from him in regards to my work and my book. I did not have the chance to tell him, and now I wish I had, how much he had inspired me to follow my heart, my passion, my soul so much as he had done for all of us through his music, his poetry. Thank you Dan for sending your starlight my way, in the beginning when I needed it most. Good travels on your journey. ~ Terrell S. Lester - Taos, New Mexico
To all who knew and loved the Artist:
I awoke this morning to the news that Dan had left us. After realizing that it was not a dream, a great emptiness filled my heart. I can not explain how he touched my soul, but as a fellow musician and songwriter, he inspired much of my music in the 70's and 80's. When I would play "Leader of the Band" for my parents, it would move my Mother to tears and when my Father passed on New Years Day of 2006, it was my honor to perform it at his funeral service. A dry eye could not be found there (including mine). I remember when I first bought the songbook of his Souvenirs album (Yes, they were Albums back then!), I would not rest until I could play every song printed. Even though Dan was obscure to many people, his music touched those I sang for and they would later ask me, "What song was that, I loved it?". I hope in some small way, I brought a few more fans to Dan's wonderful music and lyrics.
Dan, you were a musical legend to me and I will miss you always. I pray for your Family and loved ones and know that God has a special seat waiting for you with an Acoustical Guitar resting right beside it!

This is indeed the saddest news. So much of my life, memories and moments are tied into Fogelberg's music - the good and the bad times. I feel a tremendous loss at this moment. All I can hope is that as he died, Dan heard the Netherlands calling. I am so terribly, terribly sorry. God bless.
I am so very saddened. The sad realization that I will never see this
incredible man perform again or experience his life through his music is very
unfortunate, especially for those who have never experienced him.
I have been a fan since 1979. My best friend and I saw him first in Phoenix
in 1981, the last time was in Santa Fe in the mid 90's. I am also proud to
say I saw him in Red Rocks. My best friend decided long ago that "To the
Morning" would be played at her funeral because it was so inspiring to us way
back when.
Thank you for offering a place for me to post my thoughts, I could go on and
on, memories related to his songs go through my head like a rolodex.
My sympathy to you, his family and friends.

To the family of Dan Fogelberg,
Words cannot express the sadness that so many people felt as we learned of Dan's death. The impact that his beautiful and poignant lyrics had on countless lives cannot be measured. He has been one of my personal favorite artists for three decades. The beauty of Dan went beyond the unforgettable songs that he wrote and sang, but in the way that he chose to live his life as well. I am truly saddened by his passing. I am so fortunate that I had the privilege to attend one of his concerts many years ago. I will never forget that!
God bless,
~ Jill Stenzel
Dan Fogelberg will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his

I literally grew up with the music of Dan Fogelberg. I loved it then and I love it now. I thank him for sharing his gift. The world is definitely a little darker today.
~ Valerie Harmsworth
So saddened by his death. His music has always been a comfort to me. Going through the many turns my life would take, I carried my Fogelberg albums with me always. I felt he captured my joy, sadness and uncertainty in his lyrics and music. To his loved ones, I'm sure many, many people are saying the same thing. Dan's music and talent touched my life in a way no other artist ever has or will. I hope that you are comforted in this hour of loss as his music has comforted so many in theirs.
Most Sincerely ~
Annie Spillar
To the "Leader of the Band",
Never in my 47 years have I been moved so much by lyric and melody. Never have I been moved so much in hearing of the loss of an artist.~ Sim
It was 1972 I bought my first Fogelberg album, we can't go back physically,
but I can put in my ear buds, put on some Fogelberg, close my eyes, and I'm
there in 1972 again, what a great feeling.
I hope there is another side.
Regards. ~

I heard of Dan's death on the radio and I just went home and played his music for the
rest of the day. His "Run for the Roses" is over but he came home a winner.

I was so deeply saddened to hear that Dan passed away today. I was a huge
fan who has seen him a few times in concert, and who owns all of his albums.
I have been listening to Dan since 1970. I did not know he had cancer. I
hope the best for his wife, and will miss hearing new material and the
chance to see him in concert again. ~ Brian Roberts
So sorry for the loss. Amazing how Dan's words and music can move the lives
of people he never met. Hard not tearing up while listening to his best today.
A real gift we all will miss.
To the friends and family of Dan Fogelberg - our thoughts and prayers are with you. May faith, family & friends see you thru this difficult time. It is always hard losing a loved one. My husband and I had "Longer" played at our wedding June 24, 1983. Also, at our fall get togethers, two of my friends playing the guitars and I sing harmony and several of Dan's songs are what we enjoy singing the most. His legacy will live on for years to come. I look forward to reading more on the website. I especially loved the picture of Dan and his wife. You can truly tell they had a deep love for one another. How refreshing to see. May the good memories help get you thru the more difficult times.

We feel like a member of our family has passed. The last time we saw
Dan perform was at Echo Basin near Durango, Co., a night to remember
under the stars! Even our daughter loved Dan and as a young girl, chose
his "Bones in the Sky" tribute to Georgia O'Keefe to perform a lyrical
dance solo to. Thanks for the music and memories to cherish forever.
Our hearts go out to his family, your music will always be treasured.

We were saddened today to hear the news, and we want his family to know that there are so
many of us out here...strangers who you will never know or meet, who love Fogelberg
music, there is nothing else that compares. He truly had a gift for words. It was so
astounding to think of how many instruments he could play, and make it look so easy.
Anyone who hears "Nether Lands" knows he was a genius!
We married in 1980, and like every other couple that year, we had at least two Fogelberg
songs in our wedding. We have faithfully purchased every album, and then changed over to
CD's ; now we have them downloaded to our Ipod's and computers. Our children know all of
his songs from having them played in our home so much over the years. We went to every
concert that we could and we were amazed. He felt like a friend to us because he was
such a part of our lives. His words have kept our love bright, have healed us when we
have had friends and family deal with divorce; have inspired us to be better people. I
love the line "He respects me when I work, but He loves me when we sing". I have thought
of it often to remind me to sing...to look at life with a brighter outlook. Please know
that his body of work will live on through many people, keeping us inspired and loving as
we walk "Along the Road". Heaven is a place where we can sing forever and never get sick
or tired, how could it be better? ~ Kevin and Jodi Horne - Charlotte, NC
I remember going to see Dan play at the Red Herring Bar in Champaign-Urbana
when I went to school there in the early 1970's before he hit the national
scene - supposedly his song "Same Old Lang Syne" was based on running into an
old girlfriend in a grocery store in Champaign. It is one of my favorite
songs, and I will be listening to it in Dan's memory when I visit friends in
Champaign for this New Year's Eve. My deepest condolences to his family and
friends, but I am so grateful for the music he left behind.
I lost count of how many times I saw Dan in concert. No one had a voice
like his or sang poetry like he did. He was my all time favorite. I
checked his website about a year ago to see if he was coming my way, and
read about his illness. I was heartbroken for him then and now.
I listened to "Twin Sons of Different Mothers" today at work and relished
every note.
He will be truly missed by many of us who grew up with him.
~ Sandra from Texas now in PA
To the family of Dan Fogelberg,
I am saddened to hear of the death of Dan. He was taken from us much too
soon.
I first heard Dan's music in college in 1978 when my now brother in law put
Nether Lands on his record player. The soaring music and Dan's voice were
magical and I was hooked. I went out and put the album and played it over and
over again. Each time a new album arrived "in the record stores", I added it to
my collection. I never tire of hearing Dan's voice and his musical
compositions are exquisite.
I can't say that I have a favorite song as each has a different meaning to
me but the one song that bring tears to my eyes each time I hear it is "Leader
of the Band". When Dan sings "Papa, I don't think I said I love you near
enough" I silently sing along substituting"Daddy" for Papa in tribute to my
father who I lost several years ago and whom I did not say I love you to very
often. I am teary eyed thinking of it now.
I can't imagine that we will never have Dan write any new songs for us and I
know that the world is a little more silent without Dan. I pray that his
family and friends can find peace and comfort from his memories and from each
other. His voice is truly a gift that we, the fans, will never tire of hearing
and his living legacy is his music.
I wish peace in the new year for his family and know that we miss him too.
~ Martha - New Jersey
Jean, my heart goes out to you. This morning my husband called me to the
living room to tell me something. Before he could say the words, I said "Dan
Fogelberg died." He said he didn't know that I had heard the news, to which I
replied, "I didn't, I just knew." Haven't been able to get him off my mind
for days now. His music touched my life multiple times almost every day for
three and a half decades. He changed my life, inspired me, taught me to give
and to give back. He showed me how to love, how to forgive and how to hang on
in the toughest times. He will never, ever be forgotten. Until the next
time around Dan. ~ Jennifer
Music has certainly lost a legend today. Dan's music was so poetic and beautiful. It will forever be a part of my soul.
~ Gary - Huntington Beach, Calif.
Dear Jean,
I hardly know what to say. When I was a girl, Dan was my first love. His
music helped me get through an incredibly difficult childhood. I was the victim o
of terrible child abuse, and Dan's beautiful music made it possible for me to
stay connected to beauty, hope and the Spirit that exists in everything. I
have gone on to have an amazing life, devoted to philanthropy and the creation
of a world of peace and joy where all living beings can flourish. That would
not have been possible if I had given up hope. I can't overstate how
important his music was to me at a very vulnerable time in my life. Since I was not gifted as a musician, I
channeled my energy into photography. I want to extend my deepest condolences to you and the rest of your family
and friends. Dan was a rare and brilliant treasure. I will miss him deeply.
May his energy live on in peace, joy and beauty forever!
With love ~
Gloria
Forever lives in his music.
My heart is broken. I will miss you dearly but your music is your legacy. I
will always use it for comfort, especially now.
I too met my old lover in the grocery store just before Christmas Eve, the
year that "Same Old Lang Syne" was released. We've been married for 24 years and
it continues to be our song. Dan will be greatly missed.

I confess, the first time I saw Dan I sneaked into a sold out room in
Denver in 1974. My wife and I saw many other concerts since (all paid
for). Dan is an inspiration.

God bless you and Godspeed.
Indescribable talent, with heart felt prose and lyrics, strong, silent, sad, determined, soft, thoughtful, profound, soaring, romantic, wistful and wonderings. Emotionally open for others, allowing feelings to be heard and felt, through voice and song. A star will shine brightly in the sky, enveloping all those he has touched through his God given gifts. The "other" road, so reluctantly chosen, offers sweet peace, I can only imagine. Jean, he will always be with you. Know you are so loved by many, through this man, who so loved you, until death do you part, tu et dans ma couer et dans ma tete. ~ Beryl

I pray that you are in a much better place than this where you can sing forever! May your family find solace in knowing that your music lives forever in all of our hearts. Missing you now and always. ~

I was heartbroken to hear of Dan's passing. He truly was a gifted musician, and a special person. I can only be glad of two things at this time: that he is no longer suffering, and that his music will live on. My condolences to his wife and family. ~

My heart goes out to the family and loved ones of Dan Fogelberg. As a
student at the U of I and a frequenter of the Red Herring (and Toad Hall)
from 1967-1971 I always felt that Dan Fogelberg was "my" personal discovery.
I have been a fan ever since and have not missed an album or a concert when
I was where he was performing. Unfortunately, all of the early Red Herring
Folk Festival albums I had that included his recordings were lost in
Hurricane Katrina - but then he only ever got better over time. There were
times when I felt his songs were written specifically for me as they echoed
my own life so. I rejoiced in his success. He will be missed.

To Mr. Fogelberg and family,
I'm so saddened and want you all to know how much I've loved his talent, voice, and most of all his spirit. Aside from my shock and tears this morning I felt a bit of relief knowing that he has helped many people realize the importance of testing and taking good care of your self and the concern of Prostrate Cancer. I hope to meet you Mr. Fogelberg on The Spirit Trail.
Love, prayers and thoughts are on my mind and in my heart for you Mrs. Jean Fogelberg and family.

I was deeply saddened to hear the news of Dan's passing. As a 50 year old,
I grew up listening to and always enjoying Dan's music. So many of his songs
will always play in the jukebox of my heart and soul. My deepest
sympathies to Jean and the entire family. ~ Sam in Illinois
I was truly saddened to hear of the death of Dan Fogelberg today. His music touched my heart when I was a youth, and each time I hear one of those old songs, I am transported back to yesterday, and experience emotions that I felt long ago, which I still carry around inside my heart. In particular, I am always reminded of someone I once loved (and still do, somewhere deep inside) whenever I hear "Same Old Lang Syne." I'm sure I'm not alone in this, and I suspect this was exactly Dan's purpose when he wrote that beautiful and wonderfully bittersweet song. The fact that so many of us are still moved by those songs, these many years later, is a tribute to the genius and inspiration of Dan Fogelberg. The world seems poorer because he is gone, but there is some comfort in knowing that his music will live on in our hearts and memories. May he rest in peace, and may God grant consolation and peace to those loved ones he leaves behind. ~ Eric
We are sorry for you loss but Dan will always be with us. Our blessings for his wonderful music that will live forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. God Bless, but thank you for a wonderful singer and songwriter. All our love!! ~

My wife and I are so sorry to hear of the passing of the son of the "Leader

news. I bet even God cries when Dan sings "Same Old Lang Syne". God bless
him and his family. We'll miss him.

Dan, through harsh times when younger and all along my life, your music has been a
constant inspiration. May God receive you and continue singing and giving us hope from

What a very, very sad day. This world has lost a dear and gentle soul!! My love and prayers go out to Jean and Dan's family. May good memories and peace fill your hearts. Thank you Dan for all the beautiful music you gave us. Your melodies and words will live forever in our hearts!!

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Dan Fogelberg. He is my very favorite singer and the world must deal with such a loss. He will however live on through his music that he gave to the world. He will be greatly missed.
Twenty five years ago, at my mom's funeral, I had the lyrics to "Only The Heart May Know" read. As fitting as it was then, I find it to be even more fitting once more at this very sad time..."Friends we knew follow us through, All of the days of our lives, Love we shared waits for us there, Where our wishes forever reside. Starry skies, soft lullabies, Where do they go when their melodies die? To a day, far, far away, That only the heart may know." I feel blessed in my life to have enjoyed the depths of this man's soul through his music and lyrics. The true measure of a person is how much of an impact they've had on other people throughout their lifetime, and Dan Fogelberg did just that. He was a very special. Many great memories in my life will be forever linked to his music. The angels are rejoicing to have him in their chorus. My love to Jean and the Fogelberg family. ~ Cass Reedy - Kittanning, Pa
Dan, Since hearing the news yesterday, I've been searching for the right
words to say. There are none to adequately reflect the impact your music
has had on my life. I can only say thank you and God speed. Jean, my
thoughts and prayers are with you.
~ Grace
The "Innocent Age" changed my life and the way I grew up to appreciate the talent of the singer/songwriter. During a move a few days ago, I came across my collection of Fogelberg albums/CDs-long put away and all but forgotten. For the next 3 hours I played and replayed all of my personal favorites. As it turned out, this gesture was just a few days before his passing. Dan, please enjoy your "Nether Lands".
Goodbye, Dan. You also gave a gift we can never repay. Rest in Peace.

I am one year younger than Dan Fogelberg. I first discovered his music when I was a student of nursing in 1971. I bought his first album...vinyl, and wore the grooves off ....through the miracle of technology I have now acquired every song he has ever recorded. I found Dan's site in 2005. In 2006 I was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. After surgery, chemotherapy and so much help from family, I am cancer free. I thought of Dan a lot. He looks like my husband. And I remember a happier time when his music touched my soul and I was a carefree 20 year old. Things change but Dan Fogelberg's music will live on and continue to touch my soul, for however long I have to listen.
To Jean: Bless you sweet lady, you must have been something to have been loved by this man. And he by you.
I was so saddened to hear of Dan's passing. My first boyfriend introduced me to him in the '70's and I saw him perform at St. John's University (NY). His lyrics and music shaped the person I am today. Best wishes to his family. ~ Ann C-E - Rockaway NY
Dan, I was introduced to your music when I was in the Navy stationed in San
Diego back in 74-75. I still have those original albums, Captured Angel,
Souvenirs, plus a few others that came later. When I was stationed in West
Berlin in the Mid 80's, I started making a music video to "Same Old Lang Syne". More than once I had my female and/or male lead transfer to another
duty station, so I was never able to finish it. I think I still have what I
shot somewhere. It was fun and that song is burned into my mind. Thank you
Dan. V/R. ~ Paul - Madera, CA
Dan opened up a new dimension in my love for playing the guitar. His influence rings through every song I play, no matter who wrote it. The next time I pick up a guitar, I will try to play with a little more care, a little more passion, and a little more joy because of him. I'll miss you Dan. ~ Lee - Ohio
There was a concert I will never forget a spiritual experience really...Fort Collins, Co
many years ago in the early 80's A Beautiful Man with beautiful words who impressed upon
us all to take it slow and think it through and live for today. I will never forget this
man, his words, his voice.
~ Patti
I have been touched by Dan's music for over 30 years and am deeply saddened at his passing. A more talented and poetic soul has not walked the face of this earth. My wife had "A love like this..." inscribed on my wedding ring 10 years ago because that song touched her heart. I know his music has touched thousands of others in the same fashion.
My family and I offer our prayers for Dan's wife and family.

While in college, I was reintroduced to "The Innocent Age" on cassette on a road trip. I started buying up his CDs like crazy and promptly fell in love with his music. I was lucky enough to see him live in concert three times, each time a little bit better than the last. Whether it was "Forefathers," "The Reach," or "Don't Lose Heart" his songs, all done on a solo tours, were that much more uplifting and heartening.
When I compare the lyrics and music of his songs (as well as others of his generation like Billy Joel, Gordon Lightfoot) with those of today, I am just so thankful I was exposed to this music at a young age and partly grew up with it. I have sung along to them so many times and they are so special to me that I can rightly say they've made an indelible impact in my heart and soul. He will always be one of my musical heroes. Vaya con dios, Dan. ~

For over 30 years Dan's music has touched our lives. We missed your concert in the Bay
Area only to find you a few weeks later at a one day concert in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It
was "The Wild Places" concert that sent us on another path. The concert was
magical-- seared in my mind forever. We lost a beautiful soul and a
wonderful man today. May the Creator watch over you Jean and the family.
~ Dave and Carol Schaub - Los Gatos, CA.
I'm so shocked and saddened to hear about the sad news of Dan's death. At 40, I have
such fond memories of his beautiful songs and will make sure my children grow up hearing
his wonderful words and melodies. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and
family. ~ Laura Ervin
Jean - please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your husband Dan. I'm so sorry the two of you didn't have more time together. His music touched so many lives on so many different levels. I had the privilege of seeing Dan in concert at least a dozen times when he toured in Ohio. The concerts were always great - even in the pouring rain. And yes, "Longer" was our wedding song.
Dan I thank you for sharing the gift of your music, your voice and your spirit with all of us. You will be missed by many. Ever on. ~ Diane - Ohio
Please accept our heartfelt condolences, Jean, to you and you family. Dan was a very special singer/songwriter. The "'Reach" meant so much to us for many reasons and it was also your home. So many of his songs reached out to all of us. May God be with you in this time of grief and may Dan now rest in peace. We will miss you as you were a genius. ~ B Hart
A true great man has passed on. My sincerest condolences to his wife and family. I feel so privileged to have seen his final concern at Echo Basin, CO.
Perhaps Dan's own words can best describe the impact his music had on my life: "Up through the branches, The stars shine above on the arroyos and mesas you loved. And as the moon rises, the black mountain mourns, For the old friend he'll look on no more. I sing to your spirit where all my dreams dwell, The vision--the freedom, the life lived so well. And I sing in your canyons and the echoes ring clear, and I wish somehow you may still hear." ~ Tom Yorke - Toms River, NJ
To Jean and
Other Family Members: Please accept our sincere sympathies. Dan was
more than just an “entertainer”. His music and lyrics plucked the
chords of emotions that are often difficult to express in words. I was
already in my 30’s when I first heard “Nether Lands” and “Part of the
Plan”, but from the first I was hooked, as were my wife and then young
daughters. All of us remained fans through the years, and now my
oldest daughter plays selections from the “Portrait” anthology for her
own girls. You have had a great impact on our lives, Dan. Rest in
Peace with God, and serenade the Heavens. ~ John B., Arizona.
I have had Dan Fogelberg "record" albums since the beginning of his career. Inspirational music that has lifted me, relaxed me when I was stressed, and I sang to in the car. People may have thought I was strange, but I didn't care. Dan's music is in my mind now especially "Nether Lands" (my favorite album and song). The most beautiful, folk, jazz, classical, rock altogether that I have ever heard. GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY DAN. I'm sorry that I didn't know until just today that this had happened. I'm getting out my piano and guitar music this week and playing DAN'S music! My condolences to the family of Dan and all those that have worked and sung with him. May they be at peace in this sorrowful time. God Bless! ~ Ellen M. Backlin - Chicago, IL
