It is very difficult for me to express how I feel about the loss of an individual who had a tremendous impact on my life through their gift of music.Dan Fogelberg's music was truly an inspiration to me and will always continue to have a profound effect on my life. Thank you Dan Fogelberg for sharing your gift. ~ Theresa

How horribly sad and tragic. What a wonderful musician, poet and human  being he was. His passing breaks my heart. ~ srr

My husband also has prostate cancer, and it is so terrible that we have lost Dan in our world.  I grew up listening to his beautiful music. His music was like the soundtrack to my life.  "Longer" was one of my very favorite songs and still is, so very beautiful must his soul have been to write such beautiful songs.  "Same Old Lang Syne" will have a new meaning this year as I hear it played at the holidays as it always is on the radio.  Blessings to you, his wife, I know how much you will miss him.  My husband also ill is still with me, but we never know for how long. What a beautiful person that has left us but left us for a better place and God's talent given to him will always be a gift for this world.  He will never be forgotten because of it and will leave a bit of his soul here on earth to help those still here. Love ~ Tammy Ubach, Lancaster, KY

To an artist that every time I write a song, I wish I could measure up to his genius.  Irreplaceable is the only word that comes to mind. Perhaps one of the greatest bodies of work spawned from any musical prowess of the 20th Century.  Thank God we had him and he carried out the work God wanted him to.  Hope to meet and chat with him in our next life.  I will always hold every album, every concert, and his autograph dear to my heart for I was touched by skill and brilliance. ~ Anthony J. Foti - Brooklyn, NY

My heart breaks to know that this world has lost such a beautiful soul. His music lifted my spirits whenever I listened. I would like to add my condolences to his family and friends. I can't imagine the loss they feel. And condolences to all who loved and cared for this man and his amazing body of work.

My college years and Dan Fogelberg's music are melded together in my memories.  I always thought I'd meet him someday.  Anyone who wrote Nether Lands deserves a place in history. ~ Theresa

I first discovered Dan Fogelberg and his music in the late 70's while in college and I am sitting here listening to him as I type this message.  Dan spoke to us through his music and if you ever experienced him live in a concert you could feel the love he had for what he was doing.  As a musician, Dan was extraordinary.  He appeared to be the same type of person.  I cried when I discovered he died. He was my favorite singer and writer and to think of his gifts being silenced simply hurts beyond belief. I will forever play and remember his music, every album or CD means something special to me.  I pray his family can share their grief and remember how beautiful a person Dan has been to all of us.  My wife and daughter and I will pray for all of you. Thanks for sharing Dan with us, he made us happier and better people. ~ Kelly C. Miller

"There's a sound in the wind that blows through the wild mountain holds, Like the sighs of a thousand crying
souls"

You touched my life with your music and insightful sound and messages. You live on in the hearts and souls of many including me. Godspeed! ~ B

Dear Jean and family: As I heard the news the other morning I was shocked out of my shoes.  I could not believe it.  As an aspiring singer and songwriter in the R&B vane, I count Dan as an influence.  His words and melodies will haunt me forever .....that is his gift to the world and through this gift he will live on forever. My eldest sister still cries when she hears "Same Old Lang Syne."  This song has become a very special part of my holiday season and it stops me in my tracks and tears well up in my eyes as the story unfolds in the song.  I wish to thank Dan for his music and I thank God that he was granted the resources to bring his music to the world. The world is a better place because of he was here.  God bless you and your loved ones. ~ Darrell Russ, Frederick, MD

Dan, May your light continue to shine in heaven as I know that it will continue to shine here on earth. Peace. ~ tlp

I am so extremely saddened that Dan has passed. My father introduced me to Dan's wonderful music and it has had such an impact on me. Especially "Leader of the Band". My father is a musician and I am somewhat following him in the music business as a studio engineer and I also enjoy singing and playing bass guitar [as he does]. This song relates a lot to him and I. I had so hoped to see Dan in his element on stage but alas it cannot be...I wish him well on his journey. May the creator grant him many blessings as he has touched the lives of so many with his words. Bright Blessings to all.   Blessed Be.

To a class act, thanks for some of the best memories of my life. ~ MP

Of all the normal things that are said at a time like this nothing makes you feel better.  You will be sadly missed Dan.  May God keep you in his loving arms and Jesus put his arms around Jean and your family. All my sympathy. ~ Marie Roche' , Fan forever

Hi. I have been listening to Dan Fogelberg's music for about 30 years now. I have spent a lot of time alone (the kind of work I do for a living) and it seems like many of those times it was Dan Fogelberg's beautiful voice and lovely words that I heard on the radio. I can relate to so many of his songs. This man has truly touched my heart throughout the years. We have lost a very special person and a talented singer and songwriter, he will be missed. I wish I had been fortunate enough to have seen him in concert but never have. My thoughts & prayers are with his family at this time. I spent quite some time yesterday when I found out Dan had passed away listening to his music, my husband and I even listened to his music again when we were fixing dinner last night. God Bless. ~ April

Hello Jean and Family: I would like to express my deepest sympathy to you and your family. Like many other, Dan Fogelberg touched me with his music and will live on in my heart.  I wish you a peaceful Christmas. ~ Mardell Morrison

With Dan Fogelberg's passing, we have lost one of the greats in the world of music. I always thought that he deserved more attention than he got. He was definitely a great influence on me musically, and I used to play several
of his songs in my "coffee house" days. My sincerest condolences to Dan's family and friends. Dan, may you rest in peace. ~ Dennis E. Tamburello

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Jean, and your entire family.  I have Dan's "The Very Best ...." on my computer, and it will be an everlasting reminder to me of how his music impacted my life.  One song in particular ... "Leader of the Band" will always be very personal to me. I know Dan wrote that as a tribute to his father; but never having known my earthly father, but knowing my Heavenly father, the lyrics speak ever so loudly of the life that Jesus lead, and that's the legacy Dan leaves with me.  I've used his song on several occasions in adult Sunday School and men's retreat settings ... relating his lyrics to Jesus' life and his call to each of us to "Follow Him".  I pray you will feel the arms of Jesus around you in a very real way ... especially right now. With you in prayer ... and I pray in Christ's tender care. ~ Steve Downs, Salem Oregon

I have always liked music, all types of music.  When my other friends were listening to Earth, Wind, and Fire, Kool and the Gang, James Brown and Luther, I was also listening to Dan.  I fell in love with "Same Old Lang Syne".  I lived the song, it was if Dan wrote the song just for me, but how could he know my story.  I still play it every now and then in the car, and a few times I tear up listening to it.  Now I'll play it with reverence to one of the "voices" of our time.  I feel sorry for anyone that has never taken the time to listen to that "voice".  I thank God for you Dan and your
gift.  Thank you.  By the way, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer last December and had surgery in February.  I am still cancer free.  Thank you Dan for spreading the word.    ~ Gerald McMillian

I have been a fan of Dan's since the 70's.  Though we have never met I had a love affair with him and he never knew it. My heart is deeply saddened by the loss of such a incredible songwriter, composer and entertainer.  My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time. Dan you will be missed. I hope you will be the guitar player in the great band in the sky. See you on the other side.

Dan, as you begun your new journey in the spirit realm, we pray for a peaceful transition.  Your music was a gift that will live forever. Prayers to Jean and your family. ~ J.D. and Delta Noble, Santa Fe, New Mexico

My deepest sympathy to Jean. Dan was an amazing musician with a so wonderful voice. Rest in Peace Dan and thank you for the wonderful music. ~ Claudia, Germany

I got to work a concert with Dan in Knoxville, Tn. 1983. The song "Same Old Lang Syne" always made me weep over the first girl I ever loved in my life. She was in the 8th grade and I a Senior. We were separated by our parents. I'm happy to say that Carol and I reunited after 38 years and have been wonderfully content for almost 3 years. She is still just as beautiful and I still weep when I hear that song, but tears of joy. Dan made a very big impression on me and I have all of his music. God bless you Jean and know that he is home now with the leader of the band. I am 57. My father died of cancer at my age. Dan is part of all of the baby boomers lives as an ICON! ~ Barry Snyder

Dan, Thank you for your wonderful gift. Your music has helped through many difficult times in my life and I thank you from my heart. Your lyrics, voice and music will live forever. God bless you Dan,  your family and friends. I will miss you. Jean, my prayers are with you. ~ Tony Quick, Sanford, NC

I have been greatly influenced by the elegance, grace, and imagery created by Dan's music and sentiments, memories, and stories. I  have many fond memories of seeing him perform, listening to his music and  enjoying such a fine person. I feel for those who were closest to him.. I wish all of you who loved him most a peace and comfort in having been close to  such a great individual.  For me "Gambler" has always been his best  piece and most influential in my world.  I'm sure he is  smiling from  heaven  at those he loved the most and wishing you all  a warmth  that goes beyond words, music or sentiments. May each person who loved  him be comforted by his memories. ~  Tim Watkins

Dearest Jean, and to all of Dan's family and friends...I was heartbroken to awaken and read the email telling me of Dan's passing. No other man or musician has affected my life and emotions so strongly and consistently as Dan's music has...his melodies and words, and the sound of his voice truly touched my heart. I will miss his "presence" and will always keep him in my prayers and in my heart. I look forward to the fulfilling of God's promise that we will be reunited with our loved ones, one distant day...and even though I did not personally know Dan, he is in my heart as strongly as any true friend and person I love could ever be. God bless him and I know God has. And God bless you too, Jean, and remember always that this separation is not forever. You will be together again. All my love to you and deepest, heartfelt condolences to you. What an accomplishment on Dan's part to be so loved by so many people and to have given such an incredibly beautiful and lasting gift to all of us. God bless you Dan. We love you and always will. With deepest love. Sincerely ~ Liane

Dan, Your songs are the very reason I became a songwriter.  Your poetic use of language married your beautiful melodies, and your voice was the perfect vehicle to share those songs with the world.  Thank you for your inspirational messages about real life, love, and all the spaces in-between.  The world's loss is heaven's gain. You will be missed Maestro.  May God bless your family and friends. Godspeed my friend ~ Mark Waldron

In memory of Dan Fogelberg, I write to say thank you for sharing your gift of music with the world.  I always admired Dan's musical talents and his way of capturing a real, human story through lyrics and melody. And the man could rock, too! I was fortunate to see Dan in concert twice; once in 1987 as a solo act in one of the greatest concerts I have ever attended and once with his band just a few years ago. Another evening of musical magic. I am saddened to say goodbye to a man who is gone far too soon. Best wishes to the Fogelberg family, and may you celebrate the many accomplishments of a very special human being. ~ John F. Snyder, Slippery Rock, PA

America has lost one of the greatest songwriters of all time.  DF was my first concert and he sang "The River", need I say more. I was hooked as a lifetime fan. His passing is truly a loss to all. Regards ~ Lisa Foster

I feel as if I have lost a best friend.  My thoughts and prayers are with your family.  My heart is sad, but your "song is in my soul" always. ~ Carol S., Bristol, CT

It is impossible to convey in words the meaning of life lived. Dan and his music reached out to so many across the years. I first heard "Home Free" at the house of a girl that I dated while in college. I saw Dan perform about 4 times over the next few years, both as a solo act and eventually with a band. The world of music glows a bit dimmer with his passing, but his songs will continue to soothe and comfort us for many years to come. God bless you, Jean and peace be with you. ~ Ben Crawford, Manassas, VA

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dan Fogelberg.  As a 'baby boomer', Dan's music was one of intense passion.  His songs were ones to dream to, cry to and hope to.  His singing and music made me believe that he was singing just for me and the lyrics were written just for me, as I am sure so many can relate to.  My deepest sympathy to his wife, family and friends.  Although I was only a fan, the closest connection I have to Dan Fogelberg is that I lived in Nederland, Co. for many years. About two years ago, after losing all my 'oldies, but goodies' CD's in a wreck, I re-purchased my favorites of DF, Captured Angel and Souvenirs, which I will treasure for many more years to come.  ~ Michelle W. - Black Hawk, Co.

Dan has been a part of my life since his early days in Nashville.  As a teenager, my friends & I were totally in love with the long haired, beautiful-voiced guy.  My mom wouldn't let me go to a bar where he was hanging one night (I was underage & it was a school night!).  I was heartbroken.  My opportunity to meet him came 25 years later after one of his concerts in Dallas.  My friend & I waited outside the stage door, feeling 17 again, hoping to see this guy we'd followed forever.  Our hearts pounded when he came out - that smile melted us!! His songs always rang true, having different meanings during different stages of my life. Thanks, Dan, for all the music & memories.  I will miss you terribly. ~ Chris

You made the world a better place.  You will live on forever in the hearts of all of us whose lives were changed by your songs.  Your music was such a gift to all of us and we can never thank you enough. ~ Susie, Illinois

My wife and I wish to express our heartfelt condolences to Dan's family and close friends. His music was a very strong influence on my life and several of his songs seemed to describe situations that I had personally experienced. In particular, "Leader of the Band" touched me since I played drums in my youth as a member of my late father's dance band. Also, "Same Old Lang Syne" was applicable when I encountered my first wife for the first time ten years after our divorce. Whether listening to his records or seeing him in concert, his music always touched our hearts. We hope you take some consolation in knowing how much he was loved by his fans. We share in your grief and we only pray that Dan is in a better place where there is no further struggles against cancer. With deepest sympathies ~ Rick Rutherford

Dan has been a part of my life through the last 30 years. He has written my all time favorite song: "Same Old Lang Syne". I never saw him in a concert, because he never came to Europe, but I will always keep you in my heart. What a loss!! All the best to his family! ~ HH / Denmark

Wow, I was so sad to hear of Dan's passing.  By far my favorite songwriter--and of course, my favorite song of his is "When You're Not Near Me."  I guess now we'll miss him all the more because he's not near us. But, his music lives forever... and in a way, so does Dan.  Thank you for the lovely music and lyrics, Dan. Best wishes ~ Lucy in Minneapolis

I just want to say I am very sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I have enjoyed his music for many years and am thankful for what he has given us. All over the Internet message boards there is a true outpouring of the sadness of Dan leaving us and appreciation of what he has given us.  I will always treasure his music. Thanks.

Our condolences.  Last night we featured a full hour of Dan Fogelberg music and the comments were wonderful and we have encouraged everyone to please stop here and share them with listeners and family.  A Quiet Storm has been silenced but we have the music and great memories.  Thank you for sharing! ~ Ron Kovacs, RadioMaxMusic

My heart goes out to Dan's family and friends for your wrenching loss and I pray you find strength and encouragement from our Father God.  I'm sorry you won't see your beloved here on earth, but I trust he is in heaven playing music with the angels!  Oh how they must have rejoiced to have such an AMAZING addition to the band!!  For those of us left behind, please find solace and JOY in his music and daily tell those around you how much you love them!!  When it is my turn to be welcomed into heaven, I've got a long list of song requests Dan!! Can't wait to have a front row seat!! ~ Monica Mainard and family

I was so deeply moved when I heard of your passing.  Your music touched my heart in ways I can never justify with words.  "Like the songs that the darkness composes to worship the light." - your words...your music.  They will remain with me forever.  My prayers and best wishes go out to you and your family. ~ Tony Fino

The snow just turned to rain.... What beautiful music. What unique lyrics. What a sorrowful day.  He touched my heart and soul forever. ~ Nancy Healy

I had his music in my wedding tape and almost felt like he was there...my husband died two years later and listening to that tape over and over was much help during my grieving process. He helped make my memories more beautiful.

My heart is also broken.  Another foundation stone taken from my life. Dan was so much an influence in my own singing and songwriting. I adored "Scarecrow's Dream" and "The Sand and The Foam" and "Longer" and "Dancing Shoes" too. Dan's music was introduced to me at a very special time in my life by a very special person. I will always treasure these memories combined. Time will heal our broken, broken, hearts.  we will ache so much until then. Thank you my friend, see ya later. With love ~ Bill D.

I think I have been in shock since I found out yesterday.  Many of my friends who know how much I love Dan have called to see how I was handling it.  And I was handling it okay until today.  I went running with my iPod which, of course, is filled with his music.  Then "Our Last Farewell" came on....and as I began to listen to the lyrics, in a completely different light this time, the grief crashed over me and I had to stop, sit down on the side of the road, and allow myself to weep and sob for my friend.  His lyrics have helped me to voice things I was feeling, to laud things I found exhilarating, and to mourn things I had lost.  I have passed that legacy on to my children, who are in their twenties now.  And he has inspired them as he did me.  When I was listening to "Our Last Farewell", I came face to face with the reality that his voice and creativity have truly bid me their last farewell, and I feel such an incredible loss.  But, I am so thankful for the legacy of song he has left to me, to my children...to the world.  Dan will continue to touch lives and change the world with his music.  I hurt today for this loss I feel...but I celebrate the fact that he will continue in his music....Ever On....  Goodbye, my precious Dan.  I will miss you. ~ Linda Dean

My condolences and thoughts go out to Jean and to all who loved Dan Fogelberg. He was a role model to me as a musician/artist, and his own legacy continues in the art of those who drew inspiration from him and his work. In the world of American music, he rose to a vantage point from which no other musician could see...a unique place, as a one-of-kind poet, who was not cow-towed by the industry of pop culture - yet who was able to harmoniously interface the sublime with the popular like few ever could...and in my opinion, that's what a musical genius can do. In that regard he joins the company of a very select few that includes such diverse individuals as John Hartford, Ray Charles, and Wes Montgomery. Rest in Peace Dear One ~ Brent "B.G." McPike, Terre Haute, Indiana

Dear Friends, I had the good fortune to both listen to Dan's soulful and spiritual music as well as see him play solo at Red Rocks for one of the last times. He really made each person feel special and a part of his performance. I consider him a brother and friend for sharing his unique and beautiful reflections of life and times with all of us. Even though I didn't know him personally, I really did. Whenever I pick up my guitar or sit at my piano, I will thank God he inspired many of us to share a moment of understanding and beauty through our music and lives. God bless you Dan and I know your soul will soar high and through us all, you are a true inspiration and friend. My deepest and most sincere thoughts and wishes to Dan's family and friends ~ Mark Winters

Your music, and your concerts will always live in my heart.  You were such an inspiration in my life these last 30 years or so. To millions of us, you will live ever on.... rest in peace Dan. ~ Rudy

I would like to express my deepest sympathies to Dan's wife and family. I have followed his career for many years as he has produced many of my favorite songs. (too many to mention) I only wish I had a chance to experience one of his concerts. I believe he is entertaining those in heaven as we speak. ~ John

My condolences to Dan's wife, Jean and his family.  Two things I want to mention, I always loved the song "Longer" and chose it for my wedding song and  whenever I hear "Same Old Lang Syne" it signals the start of the holidays for me and it is one of my most favorite holiday songs!  I am so fortunate to have seen Dan twice in concert in the middle 1990’s in New York. He gave the best performances!  His music and lyrics will live on for generations to come.  He will be sorely missed. Sincerely ~ Barbara

Jean and Family, I am so sorry for your loss.  Dan's music has had such an impact on my life, from the minute I discovered "Home Free" in 1973.  There have been so many songs that Dan penned that helped me through hard times or helped me celebrate joyous times.  Whenever it was very hard for me to express something to someone, I could always find the words in Dan's lyrics; I always considered him a wonderful poet. Selfishly, I am so saddened that his voice is stilled, but so grateful that all I have to do to bring him back in my heart is push that little disc into the machine that lets him sing. ~ Jamie London Knorr

My heart is heavy and sad, and yet I hope that I can make a difference in one life today. Dan Fogelberg made a difference in millions.  May you bless God's heavens as you have blessed God's earth with your beautiful music. ~ Cindy Kevorken, Westlake Village, California

I place you with the likes of John Denver and Gordon Lightfoot.   You are part of my base of music that I have always gone to when I need healing and warmth.  That will not change by your passing.  Your songs will live on. Now,  go take your place with the Angels singing somewhere above.  Most likely singing a few of your songs.  You will be missed. ~ Doug J, Plainfield, IN

So very sad that Dan is gone.  Last night, at the annual Christmas sing in Downtown Peoria, it seemed the thousands of holiday tree lights were dimmer this year, reflecting the hometown grief.   However, Dan's music is forever, and I find comfort in that today.

I remember Dan at the Red Herring coffee house in Urbana, Illinois: 1971, I think. “Anyway, I love you” from the "Home Free" album (still my favorite!) was played at our wedding. The joy and solace of his music continues. ~ Bruce, Galveston, Texas

I am so saddened at the news regarding one of the greatest singer/songwriters to ever live. I was just listening to his box set last week wondering when we would get some new music. I am a singer/songwriter who has been compared to Dan, but I pale in comparison with his talent. I am convinced that he is sitting around the Angels showing them a new song or two..and even THEY are speechless at the talent that the world lost BUT HEAVEN GAINED! We will miss you so much Dan...and the snow just turned into rain. Sincerely ~ Douglas Slaughter

Dan - You're together now with the "Leader of the Band".  Wow-what a reunion that must have been.  We've enjoyed your music for decades.  "Longer" was played at our wedding.  Thanks for years of good tunes and wonderful insights into life.  I'm listening to "The First Christmas Morning" as I type.  Rest in Peace brother. ~ Dennis and Barbara O'Neill - New Jersey

I wish to send my condolences to the family of Dan Fogelberg. Through the years I have listened to my many albums that I have by him.   Many were given to me by a friend who looked a long time to find me the album with the song 'The Reach' as that is just one of my favorite songs by him.  The album, The Innocent Age, I have played many times over. Every New Years Eve I would play 'Same Old Lang Syne' at midnight to bring in the New Year.   I only wish I had a chance to have seen him perform in concert, however, he lives on in song.   I will be playing my song again this New Years at midnight and will be saying a prayer for all of his family, friends and fans who, like me, will be remembering him and thankful for all of the beautiful and touching music that he made. With Heartfelt Sympathy ~ Kathie Lawrence, Norway, Maine

Jean and family, I was still in shock since last night when I heard about the news on television. How odd that my daughter , 17, was just getting into Dan's music and LOVED it, we bought a Greatest Hits Cd just last night, and both my daughter and I have not slept over this, she is not going to school today and probably won't for the rest of this week, we both are in tears and can't deal with the loss. I have been a fan of Dan's music since the 70's, and I have his music going on at my house ALL THE TIME....on an every day basis! Please forgive me about talking about how sad WE are, when I should be offering my condolences to YOU instead. We will keep you in our prayers, Jean, to give you strength and peace around this. God Bless ~ The Cosentino's, Powell River, British Columbia, Canada

What a great loss.  Your music has been some of the best music of my life. Go in peace and make beautiful music as we all know you can. ~ Terry Riddle

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. He touched so many lives with his music, including both mine and my husband's. ~ Beth & Dave Fulton, Los Angeles, CA

One thing that I most enjoy and look forward to is performing "Same Old Lang Syne" at Christmas whether in front of an audience or just for family and friends. The thing about this beautiful song is that it slows down time when time seems to rush by faster and faster each year. It enables us to feel the true spirit of the season. I sang it this past weekend with gratitude to Dan for the gift the song is and now I sing it with a touch of sadness knowing he has passed. But, he's gonna be O.K. My brother, Bill, who died from PSa in Concord, N.H., March '06 will be there to show him around. God bless ya', Dan and Thank You. ~ Dave Birks,  Kissimmee, FL.

Ok, this is my third attempt at writing something profound, but there's nothing that I can say.  When my dad died (ironically, of prostate cancer) several years ago I had "Leader of the Band" played at his funeral.  There's not a man I know that doesn't relate to that song, and it was a fitting tribute to my father's "living legacy".  Dan's words and music filled my everyday life it seemed.  I feel fortunate that I was able to see one of his last performances a few years ago here in DC.  He may not have been the world's version of most popular but for all of us who knew and loved his work, who connected with him from that very first album, there is now a hole in our lives that will remain forever empty. Thank you for your music Dan.

We are saddened by Dan's passing, yet uplifted by his courageous battle and thankful for his life.  We had the good fortune to see him in concert twice in San Diego and experience his wonderful connection with his audiences. We will keep his memory alive every time we hear one of his beautiful creations.  Our hearts go out to his family, friends, associates, and fans.  And to Dan we say: "Thank you for sharing your gift of music and wisdom with us all." ~ Doug M and Kathy C from Palm Coast, FL

I was raised listening to Dan's music.  I never was aware of the influences and memories that it created for me until much later.  I feel like his music was a gift that my family and I shared and truly lived.  I feel as if a part of my life has forever been altered with the passing of Mr. Fogelberg.  I hope he is at peace and making music in heaven.  I wish his family and loved ones the best and extend my deepest condolences.

It was only a little while back that I had sat and listened to your music Dan, thinking all the while what a gentle soul we had the blessing to have that could so fabulously touch our lives. It was with profound regret that I learned of your passing. I know in my heart that the Rock and Roll Heaven that goes before us will only light our way as we all get there with you Dan. My heart felt prayers are with you Jean. God bless you and your family at this difficult time. Thank you Dan for all that you gave and all that you will give. ~ Loretta Mitchell, Baytown, Texas

I bought a bottle of Tullamore Dew last night and drank a few shots while listening to Dan's music. Ever on Dan, Ever on. ~ Carl Rynecki, Hood River, OR

To the family, friends, music industry, business partners and fans, my heart is with you all as we give great respect to a man with enormous talent and strength. Some things are never timely and sometimes we feel a bit unjustified, but we accept and move on. God gives us all a purpose and it is up to each of us to release that purpose as best we can. To you who were close to Dan, would know his being much better than those of us who were drawn in by his astonishing musical abilities. His purpose was exposed to millions, which is a gift few really get to have. Much of the world never gets past their local community. May he be safe now and enjoying his new life. May he be exercising his beaming smile and continuing the joy of music in the heavens above until we all one day get to join him. May your healing come in all your loving memories. ~ Dana Suprenant, Kankakee, Illinois

Mr. Fogelberg: I graduated from high school in 1977. I believe Nether Lands had come out a month prior to that. All of your albums, wow! Thanks for the memories. Prayers to your family and friends. The Heaven's choir just gained a great person and voice. You will be missed. ~ Robert G.  Goleta CA.

I was so very saddened to hear of the passing of such a wonderfully talented musician and songwriter.  His music has brought me a lot of comfort over the years, and was used at many special occasions.  Although his legacy will live on, the world is a little dimmer without him. In peace ~ Wendy

Thank you, Dan, for your contribution to the music world. You will be remembered for writing great music from your sincere heart and soul.  And thank you, Jean, for being such an inspiration to him. ~ Robert Lombardi, Baltimore, Maryland

Dan's music was a great balm for my soul during my college years and beyond.  Being from the Prairie State, I was always so proud that an Illinois Boy could be so thoughtful, loving and kind in his music and in his life.  I had most recently been listening to his lovely Christmas album, one of my very favorites.  May you rest in peace, Dan; and may your family heal and move forward knowing the love and prayers of many, many people surround them. ~ Rosalie from Illinois

My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of loss.  His music lives forever.  Not only on the sound waves but in our hearts. He is at peace. Sincerely ~ Pat Bodek

Even though I knew about Dan being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in 2004, I was still shocked when I heard on the news that he had died.  I am a big fan of his music and have been for years.  My heart and prayers go out to his wife, family and friends during their time of sorrow.  Having heard that "The Innocent Age" was personally one of Dan's beloved albums, I couldn't help but think of that album at this time of his death and the song, "In the Passage", which is one of my favorites.  It's still hard to believe that Dan won't be around creating and recording more beautiful songs for us in the future but the music he has already recorded will live in our hearts, forever.  Rest in peace, Dan. ~ Cindy S., Durham, NC

Thank you, Dan for your wonderful music and inspiration.  You have helped me through some very tough times.  Your music will live on forever. Ever on my friend and rest in peace.  Jean, I will continue to pray for you. ~ Matt Rinaldi, Las Vegas, NV

I haven't felt this sad since the passing of George Harrison.  They were both such magnificent gifts to us.  I'm listening to Dan's music as I write.  I, too, grew up on a river and am taken back there every time I listen to that song.  Dan's music is felt so deeply and will continue to.  He will be kept alive by his music.  My heart goes out to his family and wife, Jean.  She must be an incredible soul to have been chosen by Dan to be his wife.  And, Dan, God Bless you on your journey. Thank you for every word you left us. ~ Martha Jane

My deepest condolences to Jean and Dan's family.  I have been a fan since the 70s but had never seen him in concert until the Full Circle tour.  I am so grateful now that I was able to see him.  I feel great comfort and pray that everyone else will too knowing that he has now become a member of that heavenly band.  His music and legacy will live forever.  ~ Mona - Houston, Texas

The music of Dan Fogelberg will always remain dear to me.  I started listening to it in college nearly 30 years ago, and has a part of my life ever since.  He was an artist totally under appreciated.  I shall miss the wonderful son of the leader of the band. Sincerely ~ Tom Bouton

Dan's hauntingly beautiful music has followed me all the days of my life. I have been fortunate to see him over the past 30 years wherever he was near. I am greatly saddened by his passing into another life from this one. Yet, his music will remain here on this earth, in our hearts; for an eternity. Thank you to his family for sharing him with us.  We are forever grateful and humbled by his gentle, beautiful soul. ~ Cindi

Hearing that you had left us hit like a thunderclap.  It is so wonderful that your music, your very essence, can live on. Blessings to Jean and all your family. ~ Paul

My husband and I fell in love to Dan's music.  He'll always hold a place in our hearts. ~ Karma Decker

Jean, how blessed you were to have known and loved such a treasured soul. Your pain and loss I cannot even imagine, but the gift you were given, to love and be loved by this man is something you will always have and carry with you. Thank you for bringing comfort to someone that gave comfort to so many of us out there. Bless you ~ Jill Greer  Atlanta, Ga

Dan, my wife and kids like to joke about me listening to my "old fogies" music. Well, they can never understand the love I have for your music, your voice and the stories you've told so well. Thank you for the songs I've come to know so well. Thank you for the memories and thank you for being a part of my life as I grew up and now as I go into my "old fogies" stage! Godspeed to you and my sincerest condolences to Jean and your all your family, friends and fans.

One really doesn't know where to begin. What a  legacy he leaves behind, the music, the words, the life and the example that he set for others.  His music is in my heart my soul, part of my DNA in some respects.   I have albums and then cassettes and then CD's of his music and now it's on my Mp3  player and computer. The form changed but never the content it was always a pure expression of his soul.  He will be sorely missed but never gone from the  hearts of millions of people that he affected. I send love and condolences to  his family who knew him best.  With much love ~ Kate Robertson, Idaho Falls, Idaho

Dear Jean and Dan's family ~  I can only extend my deepest and heartfelt sympathy. Several of Dan's songs touched my life over the years and truly made an impact on me. When he toured Pittsburgh, I made it a point to attend. My 9 year old son is now taking guitar lessons and I plan to share Dan's music with him. ~ Michele

Dan, Jean, and family....Our thoughts are very much with you on this very sad day. We have lost one of the truly great people and musicians of all time. Dan's music has touched all of us in so many different ways and will live on forever. Your gift of music will be with us forever as will your legacy. Thank you for all that you have brought us in your life, a life that was taken from us way too soon. ~ Scott

Thank you for the ways you have touched my life. ~ Laurie L. Martinez

My heart goes out to Jean and the rest of Dan's family.  Dan's music has helped me through some rough spots in my life.  I hope my prayers may in some way help you through this. ~ Robin

Dan, Love your music as much now as I did 30 years ago. I have been able to share your music with my 16 year old daughter and it now lives within her. You may be physically gone but your spirit and voice will live forever. Rest now my friend, you have made your mark in this life. Best Regards ~ Bruce

I am fortunate enough to have seen you in concert three times. Your interaction with your fans was to me as powerful as the words you sang to us. So may you Run for the Roses and be at peace. Having just lost a brother to cancer, I know the courageous battle you fought, so be at peace, Dan, knowing you will live on in your songs. ~ Dewey

It is with immense sadness that I have learned of the death of Dan.  My prayers go to Jean and to all those close to Dan's heart in the United States and throughout the world.   People have found a peace through Dan's music that has served to make us feel good about ourselves and about each other.  When I heard Dan's music amid the hustle and bustle of life  I thought of the beauty of the stars on a clear night, the tranquility of the lakes and mountains, the wild places! Now when I see the stars at night , admire the beauty in nature and the love of humanity,  I will be inspired to think of Dan, look up and say thank you Dan for inspiring me to a better life with the message in your music. His music and his spirit will live on forever.  Ever on, Dan... Ever on. ~ Nessan O'Brien, Ireland

My thoughts and prayers go out to you, Jean, and all of Dan's family. You were truly blessed with the life and talents of such an incredible artist and person.  I feel that I lost a friend, and shed a few tears of my own yesterday while I listened to some of Dan's music.  Find strength in the fact that your loved one touched so many people so deeply.  He definitely made this world a better place, and we are all suffering a huge loss.  Hold on to the wonderful memories of him, and find peace in your hearts now that his suffering is over.  Dan was a special gift from God to all of us! ~ Denise Barry - Lansdale, PA

I will miss you so much, Dan!!  I'm so sorry you were taken from us so early. I saw you in concert twice at Red Rocks - what beautiful evenings those were and what a joy it was to see you in person!  Your music has brightened my days for many years!!  You are such a talented person - you can be proud to know that you really made a "mark" on this earth!  My prayers go out to Jean and your families - what a sad day for us all!! ~ Donna - Littleton, CO

My deepest condolences to Dan's family.  For a man that I never met personally, he had such an impact on my life.  A very old and dear friend of mine introduced me to the music of Dan with "To the Morning". That moment is forever etched in my memory.   His lyrics touched my soul - the very core of my being.  The depth he brought to his music has yet to be matched by any other artist.  He will truly be missed. ~ Vicki Hughes

I fell in love with Dan, the man, the musician, gifted singer and songwriter when I was 15, in 1975.  I learned to play the guitar, "Part of the Plan" was the first song I ever learned.  My life was changed by his music.  I moved to Boulder in 1980, and always looked to catch a glimpse of him in  his black jeep!  I had more than just a passing "crush", you could say!  I saw him in concert too many times to even list.  I was devastated when I first heard that he was sick, and kept him in my prayers constantly, and really hoped for the best, and believed he would beat this horrible cancer thing.  I am heart-sick, not just for myself, but for all of his family, and other fans, of which he had many, just like me. All I know is that the heavens and all the other angels are rejoicing, and making the most beautiful music ever.  The measure of a man here on earth is what he leaves behind, the lives he touched, those he loved, and inspired. There will NEVER  be another man like him!.  Maybe that's why I never married, there was never anyone who came close to being the kind of man I looked for, the soul, the beauty, the gift he had.  I love you Dan, and my heart goes out to his wife, and everyone else in his circle.  God Bless. ~ Summer from Texas

When I was 19 I moved from New York to Colorado to live with some cousins I barely knew. The first thing I unpacked from the car was my guitar. My cousin Joe was there with his guitar. Without knowing each other or ever having played together we sat down and played about 4 or 5 of Dan's songs together in perfect harmony. The second date my husband of 24 years and I had together was one of Dan's concerts in Boulder in 1980. Dan's music has been an integral part of my "life soundtrack." Thank you Dan, and thank you to Jean and the whole family for sharing him with so many for so long. Music is the perfect universal language and Dan's musical and spiritual energy is eternal. ~ Alison Hamling

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He was one of my mom's and my favorite singers. May he rest in peace. ~ Shon P. Connors

I always enjoyed Dan's songs.  He was in touch with something that allowed him to make the personal universal. Those of you who have lost a loved one, please accept my condolences.  Meanwhile, understand that none of us will ever lose his music.

Needless to say, my heart is broken with the news of your passing, Dan, but you are at peace now and that is a comfort to me. You will never know how much you have affected my life, you will always have a special place in my heart. ~ Mary Crawson, East Islip, NY

To Dan - words can't express the sorrow I felt when I heard the awful news. We all know our time in this realm is finite, but that doesn't make it any easier to hear. I only saw you in concert once, 2003 at Navy Pier in Chicago. But I've known of your music since I was a teenager in the 70's. I've always been a fan of music that speaks to the heart, whether it be about love ("Longer"), pain ("Same Old Lang Syne"), recovery/rebirth ("Phoenix"), searching for one's dream/purpose in life ("Lost In The Sun"), perseverance/strength to face our fears ("Nexus")...and many more...all of which have played major roles in helping me define my part in life. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you!

To Jean-my prayers will be for you at this time, and that you will always have wonderful memories of your time shared with Dan! Thank you for sharing this special man with us! Sincerely ~ Wayne Hockett

Of the 400 CD's I own, the best investment I ever made, was having bought Dan Fogelberg's, The Innocent Age album, and later the CD.  He was and remains, within a minuscule handful of my top favorite songwriters.  If ever an artist understood how to articulate what lies in the core of human experience, Mr. Fogelberg's gift for both his musical as well as lyrical abilities, at such prolific capacity and stratum, often centered and humbled me to a summit of ineffable and poignant wisdom.  This artist possessed a rare musical gift that we as his fans, "can never repay", if only to say..."thank you Mr. Fogelberg, for the enormous contribution you made in the annals of music history, and the unprecedented eloquence that emanated throughout your work.  You'll be missed and remembered.  May God keep you and may you rest in peace." Ever truly yours ~  Marisel Estevez

I feel like I've lost one of my best friends.  Dan's music is a part of so many of my memories.  My best friend, Susan, introduced me to him back in the early 80's and he went on every road trip we took!  We saw every concert he gave in Houston, and had regular arguments over which song was his "best".  I've played his cassettes until they were ruined, and then I'd go out and buy new ones.  Nether Lands has been in the CD player in the car for the last week. He is a special man.  My life is better for having him in it. Thank you, Dan. ~ Dawn

I have attended countless live shows in my life and multiple Dan Fogelberg performances, but, the one moment in all the hours of concert going that will forever be the most memorable happened in the summer of 1977 at the Wolman Skating Rink in Central Park, New York City. Dan walked on stage solo, sat at the piano and began to play "Nether Lands" without accompaniment. By the measure in the song where the lyric reads "for the wind and the snow and sky" not another sound could be heard amongst 5000+ people and it felt as if the entire audience had been transported on a gentle breeze to a higher place far away from the boundaries of earth. May we all find comfort knowing that Dan has arrived at that destination he gave the entire planet a preview of. ~ David Forrest, Bend, Oregon

No profound thoughts here. Your death left me heartbroken. I never imagined it would hurt this badly. ~ M.

When I moved to Colorado in 1977, I didn't realize how influential your music would become to me.  Now, 30 years later, I carry your songs in my heart and in my head, daily.  Not a day passes when I don't sing one of your songs, while on my daily 10 mile walk.  Your music 'centers' me.  No frills, no gimmicks, just stripped down melodies with poignant words fill my mind. When we go to Maine every August, and when we go to Maine next summer, your presence will surely be felt, more than ever.  For all the  music you've left us with, thanks.

Dan was and is my musical inspiration. I wish you peace. ~ Jim G

Dan Fogelberg touched my life in a very significant way.  His music was beautiful and its messages meaningful.  I was fortunate to have learned of him and even seen him.  I pray that his wife and family will take heart and know that he touched so many lives.  Thank you Dan Fogelberg. May God keep you in his loving arms. ~ Casey Hancuff, Eagle, Idaho.

To Mr. Dan Fogelberg and family - Thank you for your heart and your soul and the poet in you. Your words and music have a truth in them that for me will always ring clear. Thank you for giving me joy.  Your music helped me to bring love into my empty life. Thank you for all you gave us. God bless you and your family. I believe God will hold your soul close because he recognizes all the good you did here on earth. ~ John Cherryhomes

Dan Fogelberg has been an idol and inspiration to my work as a musician for over 25 years. My heart goes out to his family and I wish them a peaceful Christmas. The Music World has lost one of it´s greatest talents. "Gone are the pathways, the child followed home".  ~ Eyfi - Reykjavik - Iceland

I cried when I heard of your passing, because I am admittedly selfish.  Having you in the world made many people feel better, but for you it must have been time to let go.  I never met you, though I felt we knew each other.  I listen to your music every day, and always will.  To Jean, you have all of my thoughts and prayers.  I will never forget him or how his music helped to shape my life. I loved you like a brother, you will live on in spirit.  Rest in peace. Love to you and your family ~ Meg

Our thoughts and prayers are with Dan's family. His music was truly inspirational. "Longer" was sung at our wedding. We saw Dan every time he was in Indianapolis. I remember his last Indy concert at the Murat in 2003. He sang "Leader of the Band" and I cried hysterically as my father was dying at the time. His music will live on forever. ~ Beth and Dave, Indianapolis, IN

Dan Fogelberg was one of my all-time favorite singer/songwriters; a man I listened to constantly from 1972 until his untimely passing. My most sincere condolences to Dan's family and friends! ~ Steve Salzman - Gurnee, Illinois
