Your music has always touched me deeply. I think it's all the love that can be heard coming through and I thank you for that.  Rest in peace.  ~ Jess

I haven't cried about a celebrity death in quite a while.  I did last night. A beautiful soul has left us.  I just hope he left, knowing what his impact actually was.  "There's a song in the heart of all of us" and Dan Fogelberg set it free. Peace

Many thoughts and prayers with the family during this time.

My deepest sympathy to Dan's family and friends.  The world has truly lost a great friend and musician - we are all sharing your pain in his passing. Although he is gone from this world, his music will live on forever!  I pray you find peace in God's promise that we will all be together again one day with Him in Heaven.  God's Blessings to Jean, Dan's mother, his brothers and their families.  "There's a hole in the world tonight".  God Bless ~ Nancy

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Fogelberg Family. May God bless each and every one of you and wrap his comforting arms around you.  I was fortunate to be able to see Dan in concert twice and my favorite was in 1995, just him and his guitar what a special evening.  I was excited to find out a couple of years ago that he did a Christmas CD.  It was/still is my favorite one to listen to.

As I write this note and read all of the messages that have been posted, my thought is from Dan's song with one small change "We're Missing You." God Bless Jean, family and friends who celebrate Dan's life and hold him close in their hearts. Your gifts to us are freely given in the beauty and poetry of your musical genius. "Longer" was played at my wedding and so many of these songs represent pivotal times in our collective lives.  It's wonderful to see Dan's efforts to use his passing to reach out and educate others about prostate cancer. Even when the going got rough...he was busy thinking of others. Godspeed, Dan....you are missed.

I have enjoyed Dan Fogelberg's music since the mid-80's, have almost all of his recordings, and have seen him in concert four times with my wife. But I have felt another bond with him because 5 years ago, at age 49, I too was diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Fortunately, my cancer was not advanced and surgery hopefully has removed it for good.  So it was with great sadness that I heard the news yesterday of Dan's passing.  He will be missed by me and thousands of others who loved his lyrics and music. And, I echo the advice that he gave to middle-aged men before he died - please get regular prostate check-ups.  May God bless his wife and family.....

I happened to play "Same Old Lang Syne" on Sunday which, in the circumstances, proved to be rather poignant. I offer my condolences to Dan's family and friends. ~ Alan Jones, Mansfield, England.

Dan, the musical world has lost a GIANT. Your voice came to us straight from heaven and to those of us who have an ear were blessed to hear it!  I look forward to finally meeting you one day..up in the clouds. Jean, take comfort in knowing that Dan is looking down upon you. ~ PJVH

I was sad to hear the news on Monday morning while I was driving to work. In my pick-up, I keep a handful of my favorite CDs. One of which was "Home Free". Thank God he left us wonderful music to remember him and his spirit. My thoughts to his friends and family ~ Dave H

Dan's music touched my heart and soul for many years. Thank you Dan, for sharing your gift! ~ KEN

My thoughts and prayers are with Dan's family at this time. What a blessing he has been to those of us who listened.  I am so, so sorry for your loss.  I saw Dan in concert twice.  The second time, he was touring alone, just him with his guitar.  He played and sang for so long that he got hoarse, but when the crowd gave him a second standing ovation, he said in a very raspy voice, "I'll try to do one more" - and he did. I'll never forget that.  I was just listening to Dan's Christmas album the other day. It's one of my very favorites, and it made me wonder how he was doing. Then, just a couple of days later, I heard the sad news. I'm going to listen to it again.

I recently buried my Brother Dan. He was only 55 yrs old. I so understand what a family goes thru at a time like this. Be strong and rejoice for He is in Heaven. Peace and Love ~ D.R. Metcalf

I cannot begin to express how saddened I was as I heard of Dan's passing. He was so remarkably talented, as a musician and as a poet. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to see him perform in concert. What a loss to those of us who loved him so. ~ Pam ~ Leesburg, Ga.

Godspeed beloved Dan. You are now free to forever roam those high Colorado mountain tops, the beautiful southwestern deserts and the awe-inspiring oceans that you brought to all of us so eloquently in such beautiful and thought provoking song! Our world will never be the same without you, Dan.  We will forever hold you near and dear in our hearts through the wonderful gift of your music.  It became the lyrics of my life and made me a better, more loving and considerate human being and citizen of the planet.

Also, thank you Jean Fogelberg, for all of the love and support you gave our beloved Dan in his time of need. I hope the rest of your journey on this earth is filled with serenity, peace and love.

Farewell, dear heart... ~ Susan Marie

Never has any artist painted the pictures of life as Dan did with his lyrics and music.  Heaven has become a much more beautiful place and just think of the pictures he will paint now!  You have touched my life and I will forever treasure the gift you have left with us. No more suffering. Deepest sympathy to Jean and the friends and family left behind to treasure the memories.

The songs will go on.  Dan Fogelberg brought such pleasure with his music and the singer never dies.  He is with Gene Pitney making music in Heaven.  These people were such a force in life, they can only continue to be so from Heaven.  My condolences to Mrs. Fogelberg and all Dan's family, friends and legion of fans.  Dan is singing with the Angels and close to us all. ~ Sharon Sottile, Pennsylvania, USA

We miss you Dan!   In the words of Chris Cornell, "Say hello to Heaven".  We will never forget you.  Thank-you for your music. ~ Laura

I was truly saddened to hear of Dan's passing this Tuesday. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family. His music has been intertwined throughout my life. I was inspired to play guitar by listening to his Souvenirs album. I have memories of living on the farm with my friends listening to the Home Free album. My brother was married to the song "Longer". I still think of a lost love when I hear "Same Old Lang Syne". Nether Lands is still one of my favorite albums. I saw Dan in the early 90's at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles with Timothy B. Schmidt (Eagles) and it has always been one of the best performances I have seen in my many years of concert going. My 11 year old daughter learned to play a duet with me on her flute to "Longer"...and I could go on. His soul has touched the heart of many, and he will be sorrowfully missed. Godspeed Dan Fogelberg. ~ JLB

Wow. He lived a life full of song and made us feel so cool while we listened to every word and melody. Good to know ya Dan Fogelberg. May you rest in peace. ~ Ray

I was deeply saddened yesterday after learning of the passing of Dan Fogelberg. We are close to the same age (I'm 5 mos. older) and I have followed Dan's music for the last 35 years. I read in 2004 about the cancer they had found and was always wondering how he was doing but had not heard anything until the news of his death. There is no CD in my entire collection that has been played more that Dan's Greatest Hits, and ironically, I played it in my truck the day before he died. The songs of life from such a beautiful voice were very touching and inspirational. He will be sadly missed. Jean, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and Dan's family as you courageously struggle through this tough time.  ~  Dave McCullough

Jean, I send you love and prayers for your heart to heal soon.  I am entertainer, a dance performer, and music has been a great part of my life.  Of all the sounds and music I have heard while traveling the world, Dan's music and soulful poetry has had the most impact on my life.  It has made a profound mark on my soul. As a young girl, I found peace and understanding in his music and voice.  As a woman, I have found hope and comfort. No song moves me like "River of Souls"  I now think of Dan's journey and the song has even more meaning now...the last line tells it all. "To every man the mystery sings a different song. He fills his page of history, dreams his dreams and is gone". Thank you for giving Dan love, peace, support and happiness.  He did live his dream and gave us all the music with which to dream ourselves. May God Bless you now and forever... ~ Jeannie

Not looking for innocence. We loathe the shortened time. A holiday toast to you, Dan. Another (sadder) Auld Lang Syne ~ Mike Pichette, Bennington, VT

Mrs. Fogelberg: My wife and I are truly sorry for your great loss. I have enjoyed Dan's music since I was a young man, and I saw him in concert once.  I always felt like he was a distant friend. We will miss him. We wish you strength.
~ Gene Kennedy, M.D. and Marion Kennedy

One of the most blessed souls to ever roam the earth. So much of what I believe to be true about love, life and spirit I learned from Dan. I will be forever indebted to him. I think the world may have lost the greatest composer, poet, philosopher and musician of our time. ~ Gerald Eldridge, Holden, Maine

Dan Fogelberg will always be alive in spirit.  His music is timeless, crossing many boundaries and healing many hearts, including my own.  Your life is truly celebrated. ~ Laurie

Dan's music set the stage for adolescent wanderings during my formative years.  It was as if he was my "best friend" riding along and singing with me/for me, to keep me company and to inspire me.  I'll never forget skiing in Telluride listening to High County Snows.  I have been so blessed to have had the opportunity to enjoy his music. May the Lord bless you and keep you Dan.  ~ Ken

...but a gain for those in heaven who have yet to hear him!!  Our deepest thoughts and prayers to the family of Dan. He has made such a  difference in so many lives eternally, and will now, will eternally grace those  he was destined to sing with!! ~ Paul, Jupiter,  FL.

In 1972, I was taking guitar lessons and the teacher mentioned that Dan was one of his favorite musicians. I went out and bought Dan's first two albums and fell in love with his lyrics and style. Since then, he has always been one of my favorites. Like all fans I will miss hearing new music from Dan but I am so grateful for the years of great music. He has been an inspiration for me. ~ Chuck

Today, Tuesday, December 18th, I am still numb from the loss of Dan.  My Spiritual brother who has gathered us all together over the years to sit and share our lives with Dan's music and now, finally, we see how the music and the lives are intertwined and beautifully connected.  It is like letting go of a big brother who watched over us and nurtured us with his beautiful gift that he unselfishly shared with us for so many years.  I will miss him terribly.  I was never able to catch him live, our lives never crossed that way. I feel so cheated.  So many of you did get the chance to see him perform.  That is something special between the two of you.  Cherish that memory and always remember that his life was our music.  For Jean...your extended family holds you tenderly against our bosom and offers you our Love and support.  Thank you for sharing this wonderful man with us for so many years.  His life will always be a part of our life, and we thank you so much for giving us all a chance to know just a little about him.  Your loss is our loss, and our Prayers are for you to grieve, to Love, and to remember your Love of Dan and the life you both shared.  Blessings to you Jean, may your Christmas bring you Peace and Love. ~ Gary in Montana

Dan, May you rest in peace knowing you left much joy to us all with your wonderful words and music. You left us much to soon, but as the Righteous Brothers sang, you are with a helluva band. You can begin make some beautiful music with your inspirations Lennon, Harrison, and Gene Clark. ~ Nick C

How can we best say goodbye to the man who has somehow captured our thoughts for years and turned them into beautiful song to share with others, especially during time of love? ~ Steve

This man was a contribution to this world. We will never see another like him. He will be greatly missed and always loved. ~ Tiffany Marsh

I lost a little part of me yesterday upon hearing the news of Dan's passing. He was an inspiration and will be missed. ~ Bill Precht, Miami Lakes, FL

Dan, may God bless you in heaven. I have enjoyed performing many of your songs at weddings, parties, and for girlfriends throughout my life. I was shocked to hear from a friend in Jacksonville that cancer had taken you so at such a youthful age. You will be very much missed by all the hearts and minds you have touched with your music. See you in Heaven some day and perhaps sing a song with you. ~ Gregg Norris, Miami, FL

I don't think I've ever been touched as much as I was by some of Dan's songs.  He was a true musician in every sense of the word and he will be sadly missed.

"There's a light in the depths of your darkness, There's a calm at the eye of every storm. There's a light in the depths of your darkness,  Let it shine, oh let it shine."

I'm sure you all know these words as well as I. I have to say that in recent years Dan and his music have escaped me for the most part. I bristled when I would hear one of his "hits" on some soft rock radio station and go "ugh!" That's because it pained me to think that most people would think that those songs were his only contribution to music as a whole. I know better than that. Three of my favorite records of all time are "Home Free", "Souvenirs", and "Captured Angel". I enjoy listening to them back to back to back, ending with the final song on Angel "The Last Nail". To me, Dan never wrote a better song, sweeping in its musicality and heartbreaking in its lyricism. And that is, for me, the Dan Fogelberg music I choose to continue listening to. The majestic "To The Morning", "As The Raven Flies" with its swirling guitars, and the countrified rumble of "Next Time". Back in the day The Eagles had nothing on this guy. I am an atheist but I have to say that if I'm wrong on that point I sincerely doubt that now that Dan is gone from this world that all the angels in Heaven are laughing at him. No, they're all tuning up to sing backup harmonies!

To the family, friends and those who were so touched by Dan Fogelberg's eloquent voice and heart felt melodies - My breath was literally taken away learning of dear Dan's death.  It is so hard to lose someone whom you felt was family.  Through the years, his songs have woven themselves throughout my soul.  They nurtured me and helped deliver me in to the person I am today.  He had such a wonderful gift.  His words and music were my resources in times of love, death and in the moments when I recognized life's truest gifts.  I am so very thankful for all he gave us and all that remains of him.  I pray for peace in the hearts of all who loved him.  Bless his family in their time of need. We are thinking of you and know Dan is too. ~  A fan and friend

Dear Jean, So sorry to hear of your loss.  Dan's passing has surely sent a wave of sadness around the world.  He was an extraordinary soul, not only in his abilities to create and perform musical works, but also for his capacity to convey ideas and feelings that have reached and inspired thousands.  I have listened to his beautifully and thoughtfully crafted albums for thirty years now, and have too many favorites to name all. As Dan's father had bestowed upon him years before, Dan gave to us a gift I knew we never can repay ... ~ Pam, San Jose, CA

I am very sad on having heard that Dan has died. His music has inspired me since I came to this country in 1986. I will always remember it. ~ Agustin C.  Martinez, Midway City Calif.

Jean, I saw Dan do a concert at Central Park's Wollman Rink back when "Nether Lands" came out. "Sketches" is my favorite. Dan performed it brilliantly that night. If I close my eyes I can go back there anytime. Dan will never be forgotten. I just turned 52 &  I've been putting off my colon exam. I read what Dan wrote on the website. I will see my Doctor. My deep sympathy ~ Art Shea

Heartfelt condolences to the Fogelberg family.  His music IS his legacy and it has brightened all of our lives for many years. In peace & sincere sympathy ~ Mary Nell Shiflet, Bloomington, Indiana

Wow, I am saddened by his death. What a wonderful endearing songwriter.  He will be missed for his mark on this world and for the one he should have had.

To Dan's Wife and Extended Family: Dan's music is a legacy that he left for all of us to enjoy for years to come. I've always loved his songs and will consider my collection priceless, as it is. My heart goes out to you all. ~ Kathy Kelly, Crestwood, IL

Thank you making this world a more beautiful place.  When I heard the news on Sunday, my first thought was: "it's the end of an era - a sweet, thoughtful, caring era". I am now revising that.  Your legacy lives on through your music that will permeate the long shadows.  God bless you. ~ Patricia Downey

Dear Jean, Please accept my most heartfelt condolences for your loss.  I was truly shocked and saddened when I heard the news today because I had no idea Dan was ill.  Dan has long been an inspiration for me over the years as I learned to play guitar while his music and lyrics have always touched me deeply.  What a wonderful gift.   I have spent many happy hours playing Dan's CD's and jamming along with him on my guitar.  It was very therapeutic when I was feeling down. I played "Leader of the Band" for my Father-in-Law's 50th wedding anniversary.  He has been a music teacher all his life and was very touched by the song.  It was perfect for the occasion.   Over the years I have learned many of Dan's songs and have always found them challenging and very enjoyable to play.   I also played "The Sand and the Foam" at my niece's funeral.  She passed away at the age of 12 after a heroic fight with a brain tumor.  The song and the lyrics were so appropriate for the moment. Dan will be sorely missed but his music will live on with us forever.  He was truly given a special talent from God and I believe now he is singing for Him.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Goodbye Dan. Sincerely ~ Gary Stafford

Jean, I saw Dan 3 times in concert during a 10 year span and they were the most uplifting, simple and powerful performances I have ever witnessed.  I'm sure Dan is looking down on us now saying, "Why was I holding on to that human life so hard ?"  He will be remembered from now on.

Thanks for the music. Rest in peace! ~ Patrick, Maastricht, Netherland

Aye, Danny boy was a bonny laddy. God Rest Ye Man, lay your head. ~ Diane

This is a very sad loss.  I grew up listening to Dan Fogelberg's music and cherish each and every note, lyric and memory attached to those great songs.  Rest in Peace Dan. ~ Gerry Fleisher

Dan Fogelberg will live forever, just like John Lennon, George Harrison, John Denver, Jim Croce, Freddy Mercury and many other geniuses that brought tears of happiness to our eyes and still do every time we listen to their records.  God bless you Dan for giving us the precious gift of your music, the strength of your voice and your lyrics.  Rest in peace, you deserve it !! ~ Martin Tagle   - Peru

Dan Fogelberg's music has been a part of my life since I was in my teens. I have had so many times where I felt as if he was writing certain songs directly about my circumstances. Being a musician/writer myself, I covered and performed many of Dan's tunes. I will miss Dan Fogelberg and so will the music world. Blessings to all family and friends...and rest in peace, Dan. ~ Mark Hodge

Life is full of strange quirks and surprises.  I listened to your music constantly throughout my college years and all my friends commented on how much we looked alike (but I kept the beard).  This made me feel like your brother and has always kept you close to my heart (and ears).  I developed prostate cancer 4 years ago, a year before you, but somehow managed to survive while you have passed on.  I would trade places with you, if I could, as your music has meant so much to so many, and it will continue to mean a lot in the years to come.  But now you belong to the ages. Goodbye, Dan. Keep on singing and composing in heaven. ~ Bruce McLaren

My prayers with the family. His music and words always moved me. I have tears in my eyes. He was a beautiful man. ~ Osnat Edrich

I was very saddened with this news, but also glad his long and tiring ordeal was over. The joy he brought to me and my friends over the years were never ending. And his music will live on long after we too are gone. Peace be with his family for they too have known a wonderful human being. ~ Jamie Saunders, Tulsa, OK

He now sings with the angels.  Peace that passes all understanding is wished for Jean and all of Dan's family. ~ Mary Ann, Illinois

It is with heartfelt condolences that I send you this note.  From the day I received the letter in 2004 canceling the show in Morristown NJ, I had been hoping Dan would beat the odds and we would see him on stage again.  A fan since the release of Souvenirs, Dan's music was an inspiration to me through most of my adult years.  I always made a point to see him in concert when he came through NY.  My Prayers go out to his family. Now at peace, he will be singing with the Angels. Sincerely ~ Mark De Clemente, Chestnut Ridge NY

May you sing on, now free from pain, in eternity Dan. To Jean and the family of this wonderful man and incredible artist; may the love and admiration of all of us fans provide you some small bit of comfort during this difficult time. Our family just lost someone very special too. Her name was Valerie, she was only 45 and Dan was one of her all time favorite singer/songwriters.  She grew up in Durango CO, not far from where Dan made his home for many years and she always hoped to meet him someday.  When Val & I met, one of the first things we found we had in common was a love for Dan's music.  Through our years together his music became the soundtrack for some of our happiest and most memorable times together.  So just when I thought my heart couldn't be any more broken, hearing of Dan's
passing brought me to tears all over again. But as I write this I know that Val and Dan are now in Heaven together, Dan serenading the angels and Val right there in the front row.  God bless their souls. ~ Kevin - Costa Mesa, CA

I'm so sorry to read of Dan's death.  His music meant the world to me. My brother found him for us in 1974 and I think we have bought every album then disc that was ever put out.  I met my wife, Ginger, in 1977 and we fell in love through Dan's music.  I know that he was held in high esteem in the music industry, but we always thought that he should have been even more famous.  I have driven many a mile in my car with only his music playing.  When I played my guitar and sang, I was always him.  We still think that the best concert we ever saw was the one that he did by himself acoustically.  I really liked him saying that he wanted to do his song the way he wrote them, before he added 100 more voices and 250 guitars.  His music was so simple and heartfelt.  We will greatly miss him but his music will always be in our hearts.  Thank you Dan. ~ Guy Cullins, Kerrville Texas

My condolences to Jean and Dan's family and friends. Thanks for the years (decades) of meaningful words and music that will live on in our hearts.  Yours ~ Rosemary Ross

I have been a fan of Dan's for YEARS! His music always spoke to me. 27 years ago I suggested his song "Longer" be played at my best friend's wedding. They did use it and it touched everyone! The world has lost a musical poet - I offer my sincere condolences for this quieting of his gentle spirit! Sincerely ~ Lisa S.

I was 8 years old when I happened upon my older sister's copy of "Home Free". "To The Morning" immediately got under my skin and before I knew it, I was a fan through my older siblings and my Mom. (I'll always remember Dan Fogelberg 8 track tapes in my mother's car). Those early albums right up through Phoenix and The Innocent Age will always be with me. Thanks Dan for helping to kick off the soundtrack of my youth. My thoughts and best wishes go out to the Fogelberg family. We've lost an American treasure. ~ MHI

You will never be forgotten.  My prayers go out to your family.   Thank you for all you have given us all.

And to the brothers, especially you Peter, my thoughts and prayers are with you. ~ Ron W, Peoria IL.

My Thoughts and Prayers to  the Fogelberg  Family. He would be happy to know that his music was truly a focal point; for a group of friends and myself,  who grew up listening to his music. This group got together through a Teenage "Search Program", where we quite frequently used his music at or on our retreat weekends. The group is still together, now some 30 years later. We fondly remember  the many trips we made to see him perform in New Jersey. As a guitar player myself since high school, he was a major influence in my development. I will continue listen to his music, and remember the many wonderful  memories and times that his music brought us. May God's peace be with you, Dan, and to your family as well.  Sincerely ~ John Palombo Jr.

I can't believe that the fight is over! I prayed so much, my dear friend. For about 30 years your music and lyrics filled my life and kept me grounded, although I'm thousands of miles away. Wherever you are, Dan - I'll never forget you, and keep you in my heart forever. God bless you and Jean. ~ Guido/Cologne/Germany

Dear Jean and the entire Fogelberg family, I am so sorry for your loss.  I only had two favorite musicians in the whole world, Dan Fogelberg and Luther Vandross.  Luther died last year and now Dan. Both of them had a very rare and gifted talent for making a song speak right to your heart every time. Dan was exceptional with his many many talents.  I was fortunate to see him perform at Riverfest in St. Paul, MN about ten years ago with my sisters.  Just look forward to the day when you will be reunited with him and live each day until then in the way Dan would want you to.  That would be the highest form of honor you could give him. Know that the world is grieving with you and we will never forget him or his music.  ~ Gretchen Rose Massenburg

Dan will truly be missed in the hearts and lives of many.  May God bless and strengthen the family. ~ Michael Van Court

Thank you for the wonderful memories accompanied by the soundtrack of your beautiful music. "Go easy... rest in peace". ~ Greg Kopp - Phoenix, Az

His music will live forever. ~ Regards from Iceland

My heartfelt condolences go to Jean and all of Dan's family and friends. All of us who love his music have lost a dear friend... I know you have lost so much more. I lost my Dad a couple of years ago. During the months when he was declining, I often listened to "Leader of the Band". And I found the courage to say the things we always assume people know because it's so much easier to assume than it is to really let the heart talk. Knowing those things got said and that Daddy knew just how much he meant to me has been a comfort. I never thanked Dan for that... he had to know his music brought pleasure. I hope he somehow knew how much good his words did. The hole in your hearts will loom large through this holiday season. I hope so much your many memories will give you comfort. My sincerest sympathy ~ Ruth Gill

Dear Jean, I am saddened to hear of Dan's passing. I am 51 myself. I have seen Dan five times in concert, and each time has been different. His music and art will live on in my heart. May the love of God be with you. ~   Mike, Logansport, In.

My deepest sympathy to the Fogelberg family.   I have never been so touched by one man's music as I have been by Dan Fogelberg's.  He simply captures thoughts and feelings so beautifully.   One of my favorite albums is The Innocent Age.   I still have the 33 rpm record.   I wore it out but won't discard it, so I bought the CD. Many times I would listen to the lyrics, and sit back and say, "Yeah, he's singing my feelings". I have a special place in my heart for "The Reach".  One of my favorite places to visit is Maine - the ocean. I have often dreamed of having a place in Maine, on the ocean, and can picture me playing "The Reach" while sitting on my deck, looking at the wonders of the water. Keep singing.  You will be greatly missed, but always remembered. ~ Alice

The Fogelberg Family, Please accept my heartfelt sympathy and condolences during this difficult time. As a long time fan of Dan Fogelberg and the wonderful singing and songwriting he contributed to the world of music, he will be missed very dearly.

Reading about Mr. Fogelberg's battle with advanced prostate cancer has really reinforced the importance of early cancer screening and detection. As a registered nurse in the operating room, I am all too familiar with the effects of prostate cancer and the devastation it brings upon innocent families. Even though most of the prostate cancer patients I treated were many years older then Mr. Fogelberg, it is very important for people to remember that prostate cancer can affect those much younger than 56. Being a male and I nurse, I will certainly not take prostate cancer for granted. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers ~ Rick Green, Carlsbad, California

Dear Jean Fogelberg, I turned on my pc today and got the news. I did not know Dan but through his words and music I believed him to be a fine human being. Dan will live on through his music and his songs will take me through the rest of my days. Heaven will be a happier and more musical place now that he is there but he was called far too soon. Take very good care ~ Andrew

I cannot believe the wonderful, talented man has left us.  I first heard Dan when I was a sophomore in college in Albany, NY.  I absolutely fell in love with his music, style and everything I heard.  I started collecting his albums and his music helped me get through some tough times in school.  I graduated and continued buying his music and going to concerts whenever I could.  When I got married in 88 I had "Since You've Asked" played at my wedding at a time when "Longer" was the song played by everyone.  What an amazing shock to loose him so young.  My thoughts
and prayers go out to his family and friends.

I first heard my favorite Dan Fogelberg song when I was 16. To this day I want to cry every time I hear that last verse " the snow turned into rain"...    I'll definitely cry now when I hear it.  That song means so much to me.  He was a beautiful man with a beautiful voice and he belongs in heaven with all the other angels. God bless his family this Christmas season ! ~ Lisa Hutcheson, Tupelo, Mississippi

I cried as if I had lost a cherished friend. I first heard his music  as a freshman in college in 1975 and I have never stopped listening to it since  then.  Recently, I was in Colorado high up in the mountains and while I was sitting there all by myself, I experienced complete silence which enabled me to  see the wonder of what was before me.  And the first thought that came to  my mind is that this is what Dan was singing about.  He may be gone, but he  will never be forgotten.  The stars in the heavens will shine a little  brighter with the soul of Dan Fogelberg

This breaks my heart.  Saw Dan for the first time in 1974. He opened for the SHF Band, and I knew he was something special. My prayers are with all of his family. He will be greatly missed, but his music will live on forever. ~  Dennis

Today I am mourning the passing of, in my opinion one of the greatest artists of our time. There are artists who can play one instrument well, and there are some who are great singers, there and great song writers and  even great lyricists, but this artist that I speak of was all of those and so much more. He was a huge influence to my music and I will miss him. Rest in peace Dan Fogelberg your music is truly in my soul. ~ Barry Verdin Arlington Washington

Dan, you will be missed beyond measure.  Your songs are poetry and will be your living legacy to us.  Jean, my thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.  Please gather strength from the love of his legion of fans. His lyrics are a testament of his love and faith.  Take care. Best Regards ~ Angie

I've just learned the news of Dan's passing. I had the privilege to see him in concert only once--at the High Country Snows tour when I lived in Los Angeles which would have been around 1984/85. I still have the t-shirt from that concert. His music is ageless and timeless. It makes you want to throw open the windows of your car and sing. So much of what is presumed to be music can't even be sung today. Dan's music is precious and irreplaceable. Truly one of the most pure voices ever to grace a recording...to say nothing of the lyrics and music that fed my imagination.

I am truly touched by this loss...not only for his family, friends, and those he worked with over the years, but for me personally as a long-time fan...and fortunately for me as a breast cancer survivor~this makes me sad; yet knowing that he is at peace and no longer suffering gives one solace. Thank you seems like such a small thing to say to him now...but thank you Dan....you will be missed. ~ Jackie Guerriere

Dan Fogelberg's music touched my heart in many ways through the years. When I was happy or sad, his songs were always comforting to here. He was a gifted singer/songwriter who was taken far too soon. I will remember him always through the legacy of his words & music. The world was fortunate to have had such a gentle soul who touched all our lives in so many ways. My sincere prayers & condolences go out to his wife & family & friends during this difficult time. I will remember him always as a true leader of a band. I hope he knew how much his music touched so many lives through the years. ~ Robyn Lee Butera, Rochester NY

Dan's music has influenced and impacted my life greatly from the very first album I bought. When life was hectic and I needed a lift or some peace, his music would soothe my soul. It is hard to grasp he is gone. I was fortunate to see him perform live, three times and each time was incredible! My heart and prayers go to his wife Jean, that she may find comfort in the memories of her time with this incredible man. He will be greatly missed by so many of us! "Ever on" Dan.... "ever on". ~ Loveland, Colorado

Bless Dan's family in this time of loss. I pray that you take comfort in knowing that your loved one spoke for many and defined the feelings of a generation. Dan's music and words were the poetry of life. ~ Paul from Iowa

Although Dan Fogelberg's passing pierces our hearts, all of us who loved his music can continue to embrace it. He left us a wonderful and rich legacy. I extend my deepest sympathy to his family and friends. Know that I'll keep you in my prayers. ~ Sharon Fisher

My condolences to the Fogelberg family and my thanks to Dan Fogelberg for the simple yet brilliant beauty and eloquence of his lyrics and melodies.  While many songwriters attempt to overwhelm you with the sheer genius of their complex and obscure lyrical references, Dan Fogelberg kept it basic and spoke directly to our hearts.  The sheer beauty of his clear tenor voice did not require accessorizing, it was a masterpiece that stood on its own merits.  I hope, perhaps out of curiosity sparked by his passing, someone who has never heard of Dan Fogelberg will listen to "Longer" or "Same Old Lang Syne".  Both are timeless classics that will stand the test of time.  It is a shame the world has lost such a beautiful artist much too soon.  Rest in peace Dan! ~ Jon Anderson

Though we know heaven has welcomed a very special person our hearts are filled with sorrow but the loving memories we have of Dan will live on in his music. ~ Karen Delaney

God's choir has a beautiful new voice now. Prayers of peace to the family.  ~ Verna--Michigan

Last week I paused before leaving a store...  "Same Old Lang Syne" was playing on the radio and I waited to listen to the rest of the song.  I still get wonderful chills from listening to Dan's music, and I always will.  I was saddened to learn of his passing, and I will shed a tear as I play his Greatest Hits album tonight. ~ Scott

I took a deep breath when I heard the news.  True - a beautiful voice is silenced, but so many great memories remain. I always looked forward to a new Dan Fogelberg album, and ran  to the store to purchase it as soon as it was released!!   Dan - thanks so much for pulling me  through some dark times in my life!  Every single song was an inspiration, and I could relate! My sympathies to you,  Jean and  family.    Dan - play on! ~ Pat Fox- New York

Condolences to all of Mr. Fogelberg's family and friends. He authored and played some very thought provoking and poignant songs for the time that we live in. He will be missed. Thanks ~ James W. Heaney

On December 16th, the world lost an incredible man, artist, composer, singer, storyteller, and one damn class act.  If you grew up in Morrison, Colorado in the early 70's' you were no stranger to Dan Fogelberg.  He was always the very best and most wonderful performer at Red Rocks Amphitheater, my home away from home every summer from 1972 through 1976.  My entire life in the 70's was defined by this man's music. I have been dreading this day since 2004, and now must come to terms with his passing.  There is now another angel in heaven and hopefully he is as happy as his music always made me. God bless and keep you, DF.  You will be missed! ~ KB, Denver Fan

I'm so sorry to hear of Dan's passing.  He has been a favorite artist of mine for many years and his music will always move me. I fully intend on exposing Dan's music to my young son as he grows, and will also take Dan's medical advice as well. Rest in Peace Dan Fogelberg. ~ Chris

Peace brother Dan. Your songs and life were a true inspiration. Your music will be with me always. Peace and love always ~ Ron.

A great singer and by all accounts a good man, met him once. I have not forgotten that moment. RIP Dan.

Thanks for sharing your great gift with us. Though maybe valued too high in the end, I think it has been repaid for by now. Rest in peace and be loved forever ~ JWV from the NetherLands

I am so sorry to learn of Dan's passing.  His music and memory will live on forever through his loved ones and fans.  I lost my father to prostate cancer 8 years ago, it is such a dreadful disease. We can only hope that one day a cure will be found. ~ Karen L. Kidwell

Jean my prayers lifted up for you and your family. My husband too passed away from cancer at 38. We loved Dan's music. It was very much a part of our life, from dating, our wedding and I'll never forget that I was listening to "Nether Lands" the minute he died and that was his favorite song. He has been gone for 8 years now and I still cry when I hear that song, not just in sadness but with such wonderful, precious memories. I'm so sorry for your loss and know that he made such and impact on so many people in ways that can never be known.

To Dan's wife Jean and the entire family of people who loved Dan: My wife and I learned with sadness late last night that Dan passed away. Dan's music has filled, and will continue to fill our souls, hearts and ears with his beautiful voice and tender lyrics for 30 years. We play his music every night as we read to each other. His voice gives us peace and beauty and will continue to do so in our lives forever. He is with his beloved Dad now and with the angels who will be honored to hear his gift of song and lyrics. We will miss him but his legacy of music lives forever. Thank you, Dan, for making my wife's and my life more enriched by your beautiful gift of music. Peace Be With You and your family. Merry Christmas, Dan. ~ Michael and Cyndy Curran, Two Fans of your music for over 30 years , Juneau, Alaska

I was saddened to hear of the passing of a beautiful man with such a beautiful voice.  His memory and songs will live on in my mind.  Rest in Peace Dan.... ~ Denise Sozio

Dan - Rest in peace. I hope you found comfort in the joy you brought to so many people. Your music knew no boundaries of age or distance. This summer I visited the Philippines for the first time with my fiancee, her 19-year-old nephew knew that I sang and played guitar, and he asked if I could sing while he played his favorite song. He took a worn and battered acoustic guitar out of an old cloth case and started picking a flawless version of "Leader of the Band", and we shared a wonderful moment on a small island on the other side of the world. Jean, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family, and Dan's music will be forever in our hearts and souls. ~ Karl.

When my Dad died back in 1981 those exact words "and he gave to me a gift, I know I never can repay" gave me help and strength. Thank you Dan. You are gone but your legacy remains. ~ Mike, Scotland

My deep condolences go to Jean at this time of personal loss. I feel a personal loss that Dan will not now enhance my music collection with something new every so often as he used to. I've been a big fan since I bought "Captured Angel" when it first came out all those years ago. It is a great loss to music in general. I am sad at his passing. ~ Roger Mendis, Sydney, Australia

Thank you. Rest in Peace, Godspeed and prayers for you & your family. ~ Anne McNally, St. Charles, Mo.

I'm so sad. When I was 12 and just becoming aware of the power of music. Dan's songs were the first to actually make me cry and laugh all at the same time. I'm so sorry. I loved him too. How wonderful it is though that his songs live on. ~ Marci Beddingfield

Over thirty years ago, Dan helped introduce me to the acoustic guitar and musical poetry, and has remained at my side since.  He was loved and appreciated, and he will be missed.  ~ Bill

I cannot express how crushed I am at the death of Dan Fogelberg.  His music provided the soundtrack for my college years----the best years of my life.  The ability to write music like he did is surely a spiritual gift. Jean, your wonderful photos of this talented man will keep his memory alive in tandem with his gorgeous melodies and lyrics. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.  I will think of you whenever listen to your husband's music.  Godspeed, Jean and Dan. ~ Susan, Dallas, Texas

I'm very sorry to learn of Dan's passing. Since I'm the same age a things like this really hits home. A man that made such beautiful music should live  forever. His music will. My condolences to his family ~ Dennis Ryan, N.J.

I truly believe that each one of us is put on this big globe for a very special reason. We might not always know what that reason is, but it becomes clear with time. We just have to find it, or open ourselves up to hear the message. Dan Fogelberg found his gift at a very early age. He shared this gift with millions of people who wanted something simple and wonderful, a gentle voice, poignant lyrics and a breathtaking talent. He touched so many lives in his all too short time on earth. I was very saddened to hear of his health struggles and his passing. In all of the tributes I am reading about him, I see how truly loved he was by those who followed him for decades. He played a part in the memories of our lives. To me, that is so much of what music is all about, creating memories. Wonderful vocalists like Dan, gave me the belief that I too had gifts, that in my own way I was special. Thank you Dan Fogelberg! I send my prayers and thoughts to Dan's family during this very difficult and painful time.

My heart weeps at this news.  I am truly sorry to learn of Dan's passing.  I grew up with his music and love every song he ever did.  I lived in Colorado for many years and had the great pleasure of meeting him briefly in a record store in Boulder in 1983: albeit brief, it is a memory I'll carry all my life.  Dan's music will live on in eternity, sending the same beautiful message that it always has...that is his legacy of love.  May the Leader of the Band rest in eternal Peace. My sincere condolences to Dan's family and close friends.  I'll always be a True Fan. ~ Julia in Michigan

In a cynical age, Dan Fogelberg was not.  This often made him the bane of critics, but it always endeared him to people who choose to hope, and who believe that goodness does truly exist.  Such a heart and such a voice will be missed. ~ Glen

Peace and comfort to all of the family and close friends. May you find solace in the music and words he left for us all. I first heard him sing over 30 years ago and used to play his album Home Free for my then to be first wife, who passed away a few years ago .She was my "Looking For a Lady". When she and I divorced, we listened to "Be On Your Way" and cried. What a wonderful musician, singer and poet Dan was. His music has always touched my heart and soul. I, too, saw my late Dad as the "Leader of the Band". I could go on and on....but, my condolences to all and remember: We will all be together someday....someday. ~ John in Tucson, formerly from the country in Ohio
