Dan, you will be missed beyond belief, You will live forever in our hearts
and thoughts, you have been an inspiration in my family. I thank you, every
time I play my 12 string Ovation. Our prayers and love go out to your family
as they are like our family. Dan, you are the true "Leader of the Band." ~ SVH
"Now the dream is rising, in a moment it will be past. This breath is my first, it will all too soon be my last. And on a windy coast, I made several toasts to you and me and the sea.....and no one heard".
Dear Dan and family, I will listen again to "Song from Half Mountain" , I just cant right now. I heard the news today of your passing, the news I was hoping not ever to hear. Somehow we thought you would pull through as you have pulled us through time and time again with those heartfelt lyrics and music that became part of us. Everything will be okay. Some folks were just never meant to grow old. Here is a toast to you. Thank you. Love ~ R M
Dear Jean,
My condolences go to you and your loved ones. Dan's music was such a joy to listen to. I
will always remember his music, because it was always on in my apartment/dorm room during
my college days in Utah. He had such a lovely enticing voice with lyrics that will
endure throughout time. I really mean that, because it has lasted so many years already.
God Bless you and your family ~
Chris Gallegos
Dan touched my soul with his words. I have not felt such loss since Jim Croce passed in 1973. This is harder. ~
Mary Lu
Jean and family,
I'll always remember the great songs Dan gave us all to enjoy through the years. I hope his family, friends and fans will treasure for all eternity what a gift he was to our culture. Brightest Blessings ~
Lisa Williams - Ashville, NY
I wish you the peace that Dan has given me through my time of loss.
It is unfortunate that Dan Fogelberg has passed. He
was amazing. I cannot imagine anyone coming close to
the majesty of his voice. I saw Dan perform at
Caesars Lake Tahoe many years ago. He was wonderful!
His voice was profoundly angelic. Over the years I
have shared his music with my children. We have kept
him in our prayers and wish him and his family the
best on this journey. God Bless ~Dianthe in
California
I am beyond words to speak and still have tear filled eyes after hearing the
news. I want to write because I did not before and should have. I cried because Dan seemed like a dear friend...more than that even, like a relative. He has been a huge inspiration to me, one of the truly pure and remarkable souls we rarely have the pleasure to come across in this world. I am 25 and have seen him 8 times in concert....twice during 2003, the second time in his hometown. I've connected with and will continue to connect with Dan's sensitivity, passion, strength, words on love, and fervor in support of the environment. I want to say that at my wedding in less than two weeks, I will not only dance with my father to "Leader of the Band", but also to "Longer" with my future husband.
Jean, I especially want you to know that you and Dan will continue to be in my prayers. I pray that you feel the effects of all the love and support around you and that it somehow lifts you up. I'm so happy that your paths crossed and that you found each other and true love.
Dan, thankfully, your suffering has passed, but sadly, it has left a huge empty feeling inside so many of us. I know you are in Heaven now, and I'm sure singing with angels...so I'll try to be less sad about my future husband not being able to see you ever perform and feel that sense of complete amazement when you take the stage. Your memory will never be gone...as new generations of Dan Fans crop up (you know our children will be).
Peace and love ~ Jill Storm from Nebraska
A beautiful and Angelic voice silenced! Thank you for your music Dan. I
know it brought me years of joy and wonderful memories of many concerts over
the years! I am sure many others agree. Peace to his family and you are in
our thoughts and prayers at this time of sorrow! ~ Martha Smith
I sit here with so many memories of Dan and his awesome music and lyrics.
There are so many songs of his that relate to many memories and events of my
life. "Longer" was the song we had played for the first dance at my wedding, and
when I was pregnant for my son Ryan I went to yet another of his concerts that ended up being my most favorite. It was at Tanglewood and due to the decibels
limit they wouldn't let his band play with him so he played solo with his
guitar and the piano and he was just so amazing. Sadly almost two years later my
son Ryan died and that was in 1979, and till this day so many years later
your song with the lyrics," I saw the face of a Child" makes me smile and cry
at the same time of all my memories of Ryan.
Oh Dan what a talented man you were, you are spoken of in many of my poems
throughout my life that I have written.
You shall never be far from my thoughts and your words and music will live
in my heart until it beats no more. God bless you Dan and as you sing to the Angels above please sing a special
tune for my little guy Ryan!
Dan will be greatly missed by so many fans and our hearts go out to all his
family and I pray that all their fond memories of Dan will help to ease their
pain just a little during this sad time.
I shall choose to remember and celebrate all the days that he lived and not
just the one day that he died. Rest in piece sweet gentle soul and I look
forward to meeting you again someday.
Warmest Regards and Love ~
Cheryl
Dan was so very loved and appreciated for his beautiful music. We will miss him so. I will treasure the times I saw him in concert and I thank the Lord for the wonderful music and words he left for us. Prayers and condolences to his wife and family. ~ Nita Carsten
It will never be the same when I hear the beautiful "Same Old Lang Syne",
which I just heard on the radio a few minutes ago. It made me cry. His music
also touched my soul, such as "Run For The Roses". I'm such a horse lover and
that song makes me cry every time I hear it. I didn't even know he was
sick. Rest in peace.and I will treasure your music forever and ever. ~
Laura - Minnesota
I am so sad to hear Dan has passed.
I discovered Dan's music as a teenager and I have loved it all of my life.
My sincere condolences to Jean.

Dan gave us a gift we never can repay. It's a very sad day - he left this world way too soon. Condolences to his family. ~ Martha Windisch, a long time fan of all of his music.
Dear Jean:
I am sorry for your lost. However, keep strong faith for in time the two of your will reunite in a wonderful place, free of deceases, prejudice, crime and war - Heaven. My husband of 17 years who is only 42 suffers from a Neurological disorder where there is no cure and each day tortures his body, but I have strong faith (even though I'm not a church goer) that when it's his time we will be together again and he will live an eternal life free from pain.
Everyday you will miss Dan, but focus on the memories you two made together no one can ever take those away. God Bless ~Teri
I am sending you Love and Light Jean... I know there is nothing I can say to lesson the pain.
Peace from the Source!
~ Inga Nova
The one concert I want to go to when I go 'home' is a
Jerry Garcia, Jim Croce and now Dan Fogelberg concert.
I hope his journey home was joyful. God bless you
Dan. ~ Linda from California
I was saddened to hear of Dan's passing. His music was prominent in
milestones of my life, both the good and bad. He had a way of creating
visual images with his music and his words.
He will not be forgotten.
My thoughts are with Dan's family ~

I was very sorry/saddened to just learn that Dan passed away earlier today.
For years he's been one of my favorite singer/song writers. I am thankful for the gifts
God gave him and his ability and willingness to share them with the rest of
us. I will be praying for his wife and family during this difficult time
I turned sixty last week - I've loved his music for more than 30 years. His
"sermon" on prostate cancer evaluations every year should not be taken
lightly. Please take a few minutes and thank your Deity - no matter how the
Deity is perceived by you, for the brief moment in time He shared Dan with
us. His music will live on.
To Dan's family, I got to meet Dan at the Fox in Atlanta a few years back. He was that person you always wanted to meet but never thought you would. I got to
tell him how much I loved his music and I had seen him every year since he
started.
I was one of the lucky fans that got to tell him how much his music meant in my life. I would not trade that day for anything!
I have followed his sickness and he has been in my prayers. I'm sorry for his
family's loss. You have to know we as fans will never forget him. Thank you
for letting me share a part of his life, for that I will be forever
grateful. My thoughts and well wishes are with you now.Sincerely ~ Ellen Thompson
My condolences to the family and friends of Dan Fogelberg. He gave me and the world so much pleasure with his music for a lot of years. He will be missed greatly. ~ Mary Danforth
First of all, I would like to express my condolences to your family and
friends. I was surprised at how sad I was when I heard of Dan's passing, especially when I recalled which songs he sang that touched my teenage years. My very first boyfriend, sophomore year, dedicated the song "Longer" to me. Even though I am not in love with him (I probably was only infatuated with having a boyfriend) that song did touch my life, as just thinking about it tonight made me cry a little. It had such deep meaning and Dan conveyed it so sweetly.
I lost my own mother to colon cancer this year, and it was a hard time watching her suffer with it for a year after diagnosis (get your colons checked, too!)
May you be comforted with the good memories with your lives together, and may the bad memories of the sickness fall away (they do) with time.
God Bless you. ~
Cheryl
I was deeply saddened to read about Dan's passing. I didn't know he was sick so
it was
quite a shock.
I first saw him at The Main Point in Bryn Mawr, PA after Home Free was released. His
music was a gift to us all. He will be deeply missed but gratefully remembered. Our loss
is surely Heaven's gain.
Blessings to his family and friends.
I first looked at Dan's website a couple of years ago because I wanted to
see if he would be touring. I found out at that time that he had cancer. Today
I heard the news that I didn't want to hear...that Dan had passed away. A few
days ago I heard "Same Old Lang Syne" on the radio. It is such a bittersweet
song, finding a lost love and then watching her leave again. My father died
two years ago and I played "Leader Of The Band" over and over and I just
sobbed. Rest in peace, Dan. You will be missed.
A very long time ago, when I was recovering from one of the most difficult times of my life, when I was struggling just to get out of bed in the morning, I would play "Nexus." That song (..."stealthy the hunter who slays his own fright..") gave me the strength to get up and be part of a world that terrified me. "Blessed the traveler who journeys the length of the light". You saved me, Dan, and I thank you for it.
I will miss him dearly. Rest in peace Dan. You were a
huge inspiration in my life and will continue to be. I won't be able to pick
up my guitar without thinking of how you made me want to play it. Thank you
for that. God bless you. ~ Mike Mallett - Barnegat, NJ
Goodbye Dan...
Thank you for sharing...
Your spirit and music lives in my heart. ~

I am so very sorry for the loss. We will miss Dan and his music. Our

Dan Fogelberg is and will be an inspiration to the many that have followed his
career. I will hold dear all of the wonderful music that he brought into my
life growing up, Thanks Dan. To his family, you have my heart felt condolences.
~ David A. Skaife
Thank-you Dan, for so many lovely songs that intertwined with so many memories. My sister sang "Longer" at my wedding. So sorry to the family for your loss, and God bless you. ~
Patricia Sidener -
Kansas City, MO
It is so hard to fathom that Dan is gone. However, his beautiful music, lyrics, and spirit will live "Ever On". My heart goes out to Jean and his family. I wish them peace and strength to get through this very difficult time. ~ Marie, Chicago
For Dan and his family,
I remember the days of very melodic harmonic sounding music. A highlight in
life for me was getting to see Dan play at Auburn University with my later to
be wife. He was a magic musical power to us.
I feel like he's out there somewhere and feels everyone's thanks for being
such a great and interesting life. I pray for the family there to get through this
time as smoothly as possible and I'm sad for your loss and I'm sad about a world lacking even more now of intelligent creative style and class. ~
Ricky
Dan,
Your music was inspiration to me. You words on your River of Souls song "All There Is" has been an inspiration to me to keep things in perspective professionally. Specifically, "You've climbed your way to the top, but lately it seems there's a hole in the heart of the American dream" is pure poetry and beautiful in its sentiment. You will be missed! May God bless you
It will be difficult to leave these earthly ties as so many people are
connected to your songs and your energy, but you are now in the arms of the Divine
Mother and the "Leader of the Band" is calling you Home.
You are missed but your music, like that of Beethoven, will live on for
generations
to enjoy and hear your messages of compassion, love, gentility, and kindness.
Warmest Personal Wishes of All ~
Patrick Carrington
A great songwriter and singer is gone but his lyrics will keep him alive in our
hearts. ~ Mirza Baig
Dan,
I just heard of your passing, and as I read the story tears streamed down my face. Strangely enough, at this very same time I was playing music I had downloaded for my niece, "Jingle Cats". As my tears were falling at the news of your passing I couldn't help but laugh at the same time as this serious news was joined with cats and kittens singing Christmas carols. As part of me thought of the cruelty of this world, the part of me listening to the cats singing made me realize that life is all things. From the depths of despair, to the laughter of the silliest. And that much of life is what we make of it. God knows I need to work on that. Thank you for your music, and your sharing it with all. We'll miss you down here. Say hi to my Mom, Okay? ~
RM, Tucson
I am totally saddened right now. He was my favorite artist and Dan inspired
me to sing. I will miss him. ~
Robert Veach
I am so very sad to hear the news of Dan's passing. His music will last forever. I hope he is having a great reunion with his loved ones in Heaven. The world is such a better place for having known him, and will be a sadder place without him.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family. ~
Jeannie Wood,
Highlands, TX
May God give you strength in this most difficult time.
Dan, in my heart, "the snow turned into rain" today. Thanks for the memories. ~ Barbara
The stories you told us through your music will live forever as you will in
my heart. My husband and I started our lives together with your music and
will take it with us in our hearts wherever we go. Lovingly ~ Jody
Dear Mrs. Fogelberg,
I am deeply saddened to have learned of Dan's death. I am saddened for the
loss it represents not only to you and to his loyal audience, but also to
his future listeners, such as my young children. I regret to my core not
having written before to express my gratitude for his wonderful music, and
for the wealth I have of vivid memories associated with his music. I notice
on the internet that this compliment is a common one; indeed, the power of
music to affect and move human beings is amazing, and, in my personal
experience, his music has been particularly affecting and moving - at
various times providing comfort, inspiration, and joy. I have traveled the
world extensively, and I feel compelled to tell you that his music has
provided to me an enhancement of experience, as sites were seen or, rather,
sensory perceived, and memories were created. His joy of life, as conveyed
through his music, has seemed to percolate within and inform my
subconscious; for example, while riding a horse along a mountain trail,
perhaps, or taking in the view at the top of a mountain after having stepped
off a ski lift, I have found myself softly humming the melody of or singing
the lyrics to one of your husband's songs - as if in a subconscious gesture
of praise and thanks to God for the beauty of the moment I was experiencing.
Your husband's music has helped to refine my sensitivity to such beauty, and
as a result, has enabled me to derive more meaning and happiness from my
exposure to it. I am eternally grateful for my exposure to his music and,
indirectly, to the beautiful soul behind its creation. My memories of
beautiful places and moments, interwoven with Dan's music, I will always
keep "in the deep heart's core" (Yeats) along with my gratitude to your
husband.
I pray for your peace and comfort. Warmest regards ~ Trevor Wallace,
Houston, Texas
May Dan rest in peace. He has certainly found his "Nether Land." His songs were and always will be a part of my life. My prayers are with his family.
Dan's family, I am a long time fan of Dan. I was only able to see one of his many concerts. I was in awe of his talents as a songwriter and singer. He is the only performer that I know that demanded respect from his audience while he performed. He didn't like the shouting and clapping as he sang his wonderful songs. And I appreciated his integrity. In my eyes, Dan had an enviable life up until his deadly illness. My thoughts and prayers are with his family in this time of sorrow. The music world has lost a dear man that has touched the lives of many with his feelings on life. May he rest in peace. ~
Alan Peacock,
Carthage, Ms.
I wish to send my condolences to Dan's family and to let them know how much I will miss
him even though I never knew him personally - his music brings such vivid memories of a
time in my life that brings such emotion, love, hope, confusion, sadness, joy, it is hard
to explain. I do not think any other artist has ever been able to bring so much out of
me - here we are in our 50's and I can still feel that same way - and I still am that
same person! And he was there for me to help me find who that person was through his
amazing music. I send my thoughts to you and thank you for sharing him with the world.
Sincerely ~
Sybille Andersen. Nantucket, MA
I know I probably can't say anything that hasn't been said before, or
could possibly say anything to comfort friends and family left behind, but
I feel I need to put something into words. Dan Fogelberg was a songwriter
who touched me. I bought his albums, sang along with his songs, and was
moved by the songs' content. There seemed to be more heart put into his
songwriting than many, many others I've heard. So I was immensely saddened
to hear about his cancer and demise. I'm sure many people's thoughts are
with his family - I hope they realize that.
A living legacy, to all whom listened.
A fan for 40 years, and now only memories.
I can recall these memories through recordings,
but they will never be the same.
Dan's music, lyrics and attention to what it right,
was a gift for all to listen, learn and understand.
My deepest sympathy to all who knew him, friends,
family, loved ones....and so many fans. We lost a
truly beautiful individual, a loyal friend to the earth,
an inspiration to us all. As we go on with this life,
we all lose a part of our soul when someone we
love, admire and respect passes away. Tonight,
another part of my soul is gone. No one can even
attempt to take his place, for he is legend, above
and beyond. Dan will be truly missed but his art
will always call me home. ~
Michael W. Ruddy,
St. Louis, Missouri
My wife and I are heartsick over the news of Dan's passing. Words cannot
begin to express how much Dan's phenomenal talent has brought me such joy and
comfort through the years. My wife and I would attend his concerts in the
Chicagoland area over the years. There was such a sense of familiarity with him it
was like being with a dear old friend.
When we heard of the prostate cancer he was fighting we were devastated but
we always thought he would beat it and we would see him again when he was on
tour. He was too young and still had so much to share. His songs will now have even more poignancy now. But instead of dwelling on the tragedy of his
passing I look upon his life as a great gift from God. He was an instrument of
God who through his music reached into our hearts and souls. I thank God that
He blessed Dan with such a heavenly voice and a songwriting talent that was
second to none. I am thankful that I was able to experience Dan while he was
among us in the flesh and I know I will always have his spirit in my heart
forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. ~
Peter S. Sakas DVM
What a great life! What a legacy of great music! Life is eternity interrupted, and music just might last for all eternity.... ~ Al & Teri
To the Family and Friends of Dan:
I was stunned and devastated to hear of Dan's passing. His music has
touched me deeply through the years. I am certain that he is singing with
the angels now. God Bless you all at this difficult time and take comfort
in knowing how many people he touched. ~
Sue in NJ
Dear Dan,
Your music touched me in a way that no other has. It was the song "Leader Of The Band" that introduced me to your music. It was this song that taught me to be more aware of those we love around us. It also gave me an inner peace that I still cherish today.
It is a sad day indeed when I heard you passed away. Although you have gone to eternal life we still have your songs that will continue on. You have left us a living legacy with your music. Thank you for sharing your gift with us and may peace be with you always.
Very Sincerely ~
Craig Vasily
My thoughts and prayers are with Jean and her family at this time. One of
my favorite songs, "Leader of the Band" brings my own father to mind, and is
a song that has stopped me in my tracks on more than one occasion. It must be so true, that when someone as gifted as Dan, writes a song or
sings a song in a particular way ... he simply cannot truly know the impact
his words and sounds have on other human beings.
My father, who is 88 years old and still with us, will be eulogized, when
the time comes .. with the playing of this poignant tune.
God bless your family ~
Ann Suter
To the Family of Dan Fogelberg: The devastating news of Dan's passing weighs heavy on my heart! Please
accept my sincere condolences and know his sweet music will never be silent. To this day, I cannot listen to "Run For The Roses" without bursting into
tears. I will forever be grateful for him sharing his passion with us all. ~Becky Hackney,
Virginia
My heart is with you Jean. ~
Debbie Maya
I know the "end of life" never comes at an ideal time, but of all days, I had HIGHEST HOPES that Dan Fogelberg would beat this "thing" and he endured it to his final day. I am so sorry for the loss of his family. He was an AWESOME musician with a distinct voice that took me through a lot of ups and downs. The world has lost an excellent performer in body, but his soul will live on through his music. What a MAN . . .
RIP Dan. Your music will live on and continue to change the lives of
others
with your brilliant, poignant lyrics and arrangements. You will be missed.
It so saddened me to hear of Dan's passing but his incredible music and
insights into life, love and the world will live on forever in his music.. ~
Diane
I was so very sorry to hear about the death of Dan Fogelberg. We have lost a truly inspirational musician. You can't get much better than "Same Old Lang Syne" or the many other songs he sang for us.
Billy Joel once wrote, "Only the good die young." This is certainly true in this case. I will miss his special way with words and a melody. My prayers are with his family. I'm sure he is having an absolutely great time in heaven! ~
Jeanette Schneider
God collects stars like kids collect memories. Dan was
the brightest star of all and I will miss him. His
music always made me feel wonderful inside and the 10+
concerts i talk about on a daily basis will remain the
greatest moments of my life. I will miss him so.
Love, Peace and may God enjoy your music into life
eternal. You were loved. ~
John Morse
I just want to say thank you, Dan. Thank you for the music that got
me
through some tough times back in the 80's. You know - girlfriend stuff. You
always seemed to have a song to get me through any situation. And as an
aspiring guitarist and songwriter myself, your music influenced my playing
in a tremendous way. Your chords challenged me. I bought one of your music
book compilations (right after Phoenix) and would play along with your
albums on weekend mornings - along with Jimmy Buffett and Jackson Browne.
Funny combination, huh? I am so glad I got to see you in concert back then
too. And your song "Same Old Lang Syne" evoked memories of an old
girlfriend from where I grew up (hadn't bumped into her - yet). As someone
who just turned 50, I will take your advice to heart and get checked out
asap. Thank you Dan. I wish I had the chance to meet you, but I'm sure our
paths will cross one day - somewhere along the road.
Thanks ~ Pete Ramondetta
I am another of Dan's faithful listeners who enjoyed his music, and the memories and thoughts that he stirred within all of us through his music.
Our prayers and support to Dan's wife and his family go out to you today.
Thank you for sharing Dan with us, his fans, over the years. He was a very talented, and thoughtful musician. ~
Dan K.,
Chicago, IL
My sincerest condolences to Jean in the loss of her talented husband. As a teenager, he
touched my heart with his music and lyrics and his legacy and inspiration will live on.
May your heart heal and Dan's life inspire you to live on.... ~
Dr. Denise Vuich
Dan Fogelberg's "Run for the Roses" almost always put me to tears and inspired me through
countless long runs. I loved his songs and will miss him dearly. Thank you Dan for making
a difference in our lives.
Peace to him and his family.
Thank you for your music. Thank you for your class. Thanks for all. I am
a
prostate cancer specialist and live through sad stories every day. But happy
ones too. Your message will save lives and I pray that you will be rewarded
for your caring and thoughtfulness. ~
Ron Israeli, MD
For Dan....I fell in love with your music when I was in high school. I've
been inspired, comforted, and lifted by your songs since then. I made it a
point to never miss an album or a concert and wished that someday I might see you
in person. Now, I count myself blessed to have known your gift at all. May
God cradle you in His hand through the remainder of your journey to your
mansion, and may you feel the warmth of the love of all of us who have been the
recipient of your gift. One day, we will all be together. Until then, our
gratitude and love will hopefully warm Jean's heart and give her comfort. All our
love forever...
God bless you Dan, God is with you. You are at his side now. You are loved and missed. Your contribution to our existence continues to live on thru your music and words. There will be a day when we are all together again. Until then, we will all keep the faith my brother. ~
Ken Jensen
We attended a concert at the University of Utah in the early 90's and Dan sang
without any back-up, only his guitar. It was beautiful and I always remember this
Valentines Day concert. He is a genius!!
Sending my prayers and thoughts to your family and loved ones.
Love ~
Debbie
I was deeply saddened when I read of Dan's passing. Ironically, the last thing I
listened to before heading to bed last night was Dan Fogelberg Live. His amazing
music always takes me back to a happier time in my life. Thank you, Dan, and
rest in peace.
I am 46, and my girlfriend in high school and I used to listen to Dan's songs all
the time. That memory still brings a smile to my face.
God Bless to all of Dan's family. ~
Mark
Dear Dan and all of us who have lost him,
Thank you for sharing your beautiful talent through your music and poetry. Whenever you
came to town, my big brother and I would enjoy an incomparable evening; he, the
guitarist, I, the lyrics/harmony lover. What a beautiful soul we were fortunate enough to
get to know through your music. We will miss you and will continue to share the poignancy
of your work. ~ Lisa Betczynski, Illinois
So glad you are finally Home Free. We will miss your light, but will
continue to let it shine. There is a place in the world for a gambler, and a
dreamer. Your music will continue to influence all of us you never even met.
Thank you. ~
Wendy Dwyer
My wife and I were fortunate enough to see Dan in South Bend 5 or so years ago. My wife, who says she really didn't know his music balked at the thought of seeing him, but my tender coercing paid off. We left that night grateful to be entertained by someone who loved music, and sharing his talent with others. My wife loved the show and frequently sings along when I fire up the iPod with his songs on it.
I will take his advice and get checked soon. I will miss Dan. Today we lost a great compliment to music. I often tear up hearing "Same Old Lang Syne", since I too think about those who I dated but didn't end up with, wondering what if. I am happy though, and I hope Dan will be too. ~
Terry Metz
Bless you in your hour of sadness and the joy of celebrating such a wonderful life. Dan's songs are important for their style and lyrical ease that sounded like a good friend exactly when you need one. He will be greatly missed.
~
Ken Ferguson,
Townsend, TN
The news today hit very hard. The sound of Dan's voice and the poetry in his music could always take me back to the days when life was simpler and still so full of possibility. He will be missed greatly. Much love to his wife, Jean, and to all of his family and close friends. ~ Monica - Mounds, OK
Dan,
Thank you for enriching our lives with your words and songs. Your soul lives in each note and every word of your songs. And we'll continue to sing and play them. It's all part of the plan. ~
Viki
May Dan rest in peace. I am certain that he has found his "Nether Lands."
I know his music has been a great part of my life.
My prayers are with his loved ones.
I am so sorry for your loss. What a wonderful man Dan was with a special gift from God.
He touched the lives of so many. Peace be with you...~ Donna Patri
Your light will shine forever. Though the tears burn, the light of your
music, your love, and your willingness to share your words with us all, your
legacy lives on. I will miss you more than I can say. ~ Shelly B. Oklahoma

God bless you. I am so deeply sorry for your loss.
It was a year ago I lost my oldest brother, Terry Lynn, also
56, to advanced prostate cancer. He battled it a total of 14 years. So know Dan and he are rocking out in heaven. Dan was his favorite
singer. All of ours as well. We
now rejoice knowing, they are all painful, happy, carefree and young again. Take care I will hold you close in my heart, thoughts and prayers always. In his love and grace. ~

Thank you Dan. You will be missed. Scott
The expression "Any man's death diminishes me" has rarely felt so right. But
before his death, Dan Fogelberg's life, through his music, truly enriched
me. I would like to thank whatever God put him here for as long as He did. ~

God bless your soul in heaven Dan. Your music has always done something to my inner most soul when I hear your touching lyrics. I pray that your wife Jean can find comfort in God's loving hands, knowing you are singing for him in his choir now. Your voice will live on forever! God bless D.F.
Dear Dan Fogelberg family members, friends, and fans, please accept my deepest condolences. Like many of Dan’s music lovers, it will be difficult to deal with his departure from us. I have been consoled, uplifted, disciplined, and motivated by his music for over thirty years. Thank you Dan for writing and singing, in my opinion, the absolute best music ever! We will miss seeing you in concert, which is where most of us had the chance to personalize in some way, our celebrity to fan relationship. So, because there are far too many superlatives to enumerate regarding your legacy, only you said the words that sum it up the best for us. Just as your father was to you, Dan Fogelberg will always be my Leader of The Band!! Sincerely ~ Kevin from Iowa.
As I signed on to AOL tonight the news read songwriter dies from cancer,
was saddened to discover it was Dan. As I read all the entries on this site I
realized that there were so many others who felt his songs were written and
sung for us. I heard "Same Old Lang Syne" and it took me back to a time that was peaceful and less stressful. When I got married in 1980 Dan's song "Longer"
was to have been played at the wedding some how it omitted from the ceremony (I was so very irritated). Just recently my mother was diagnosed with stage IV
ovarian cancer and as a nurse I understand the long road ahead of her and
the battle that Dan battled. I pray that Dan's death was peaceful and God will
uplift his family. Shalom
Words can hardly describe how deeply saddened I am that Dan is no longer with us. I am
just a fan, but his music touched me in a way that I will always feel like I knew him. I
am so incredibly grateful for his contribution to music. Blessings to Dan's friends and
family. You are so blessed to have known such a talented artist.~ Jeanne
Please accept my condolences. I have always been inspired by listening to Dan's music.
May you stay strong and keep the faith in this very difficult period.
Sincerely ~

The Fogelberg Family,
Through Dan's music and ease of reaching into the soul of life, he has allowed an insight that has touch many. Dan's music and memory will live on forever. I am grateful. My Condolences and A Heartfelt Prayer to you. I have an everlasting love for Dan's music and his contribution to life. ~ Paul, Topsham, Maine.
I send my heartfelt sympathy to the Family and close friends of Dan's at the loss we have all suffered. This gentle man, who, for me, expressed many of my feelings in ways I could have never done on my own during my formulative years. I started listening to his music in 1973, and continue today. I turned 50 years old this last September and still get the same feelings that I got the first time I heard Dan singing. And, still living in central Illinois, I feel a certain pride in knowing he came from this area. May God comfort you all in the knowledge that he is in a place of no suffering or pain and I am sure is singing with the angels this day and forever more.
God Bless, and Thank you Dan, for you most precious and wonderful gift, yourself ~

I am so incredibly sorry to hear of Dan Fogelberg's passing. His artistry and music
continue to have an enormous effect on my own. I have been listening to Dan's Christmas
record all month which has given me so much peace.
Please accept my deepest sympathies. My own grandmother just left me in October from
cancer, and it's been a difficult season. Just as I feel her presence, I know that Dan's
spirit will continue to touch the world...and grace us with the gifts he left behind.
Love ~

Dan ... God's peace will now be with you for eternity. Jean ... May God's peace and hope be upon you as you face the difficult days ahead. My thoughts and prayers are with you. ~ Theresa
How sad I am today to hear of your passing. And even sadder for your family. But then thinking of all my favorite songs of yours - how they make me feel just plain good. "Souvenirs" is my favorite of all. God bless you and thank you for sharing your talent with all of us. ~

The world was a much better place with Dan Fogelberg in it. I just recently lost my husband to cancer so I am hoping that since Dan's music led me to my husband, my husband Rick can help Dan find his way to his new adventure. I grieve for his family. His music left behind such love and compassion.
To Mrs. Fogelberg, I was turned onto your husband's music from a friend over 17 years ago and have to say his music and words spoke to me in a profound way and I always wanted to see him perform live but sadly that will never come to be. I was a very young child when he had his greatest hits and did not discover him until the early 90's but his music was part of an era that held great and positive changes. I called it the "intelligent era" and it was filled with music of love and love lost and not some of the senseless death, destruction and mindless gibberish found in some of today's music. His loss is a profound one to the music industry and I know he is no longer in pain and at peace. The world has lost a gifted artist but God has gained another gifted soul. God Bless you and keep you in this moment of great sorrow. ~ Greg/Plano, Tx
Dan's music has intermittently sustained my soul over the last three decades,
and also touched the depths of that soul. At times, rather than be distracted
with the wail of loud classic rock, I always pulled out a CD of Dan's at the
moments I felt safe to be introspective and soft....which has grown in
occurrence as I've aged. "Leader of the Band" and "Run for the Roses" never fails to
get to the core memories of my father, particularly the later. My dad was born
in the bluegrass pastures of Western Kentucky, a place I visited often as a
child. In my father's last years, ravaged by Alzheimer's, the one thing he still
would remember to ask, as the winter gave way to spring......"Is the Derby this Saturday?" I would always be sure to have the TV on so he could watch that and hear your song. He really didn't know much of who you were, but he loved that song, and in those twilight years actually stand with his hand on his heart for that and "My Old Kentucky Home"...as though they were the national anthem. Thank you much. I pray you're soaring on the winds. ~

Hello. I am so sorry to find out that a true and wonderful person such as Dan has left us. Although I had never met the man in person, his words and Music have touched my life in several ways.
I got back into my guitar playing after listening to his work. He inspired me in ways too hard to explain.
His open talk of Prostate Cancer, hopefully will not go unheard. Frank Zappa left us due to its ravages. My
best friend's father has been diagnosed and treated for PCa, with good treatment he may go on longer still and my Father, thank the Lord, was diagnosed and treated with radiation and has had his gone into remission. Several of his friends thought the test was too weird.. They aren't here to talk about how they should haved taken them. It does not hurt when you go get tested with the Digital Rectal Exam (no Billy Bob, It's not an electric device..LOL)
and some may even find they like it, but we will leave that for another time. It takes about 5 minutes and it's done.
Nothing to it. The PSA also is pretty painless. They take a little blood out of your arm and they can test it for Cancer Antigens
that show cancer cells in your prostate. As Dan Fogelberg stated..Please go and get tested. Your life may depend on it.
I will miss the songs of Dan Fogelberg. I am sure the World would be a much better place WITH him in it than without.
He sang of the Leader of the Band....Now the Leader will have him by his side once again. Perhaps greater things will
come of this. I hope his speaking out will save more than one life.
God Bless ~

I am both shocked and saddened to learn of Dan's death. His music has literally
kept me going through some of the roughest times of my life. I have had the
immense pleasure of seeing him in concert some 20 times in the last 30 years.
The last being I believe, to be his last concert, in Lake Tahoe in May of 2002.
I always joked to whom ever I had dragged to one his concerts that I would never
be satisfied until I could sit close enough to see his sweat. On that night in
Tahoe, by COSMIC luck, we complained that we couldn't see because of a
pole (Caesars Palace), and the next thing we knew, were moved to a table right at the bottom of the stage. I was able to finally see the MAN in action and it was the best of the best. It was just a feeling of fulfillment after a lifetime of dreaming. I never went out and bought Full Circle, but it's one of only two that I don't own, and still listen to on a fairly regular basis. I always felt that Dan was cheated out of the glory he so richly deserved. Maybe now, history will catch up to the man who taught so many acclaimed singers and musicians how to do country rock. Rock on Dan, you were and always will be a driving force in my life.
Sincerely from the bottom of my heart
