I first learned of Dan Fogelberg on arriving in Texas from England in the
late '70's. On hearing him sing "Same Old Lang Syne" and "Leader of the
Band", not only the lyrics, but the tenor of his voice betrayed the
sensitivity of his soul. Now, some 30 years later, both shocked and saddened
as I am at his passing, I'm also relieved that I never missed the
opportunity to be present at every event that he performed for us here in
Houston. To his wife Jean, his family, and his personal friends, I offer my
sincere condolences and thank you for sharing this very special man with us. ~
Julian Langham - Houston, Texas
Dan, your music will be listened to and loved for many years to come. You
will be deeply missed. Your family is in my prayers.
~ Elizabeth, a long time "Dan Fan"
I've listened to Dan Fogelberg's music for many years
and was stunned to hear of his passing from prostate cancer, and at such an early age. I have two
relatives who have suffered from the disease, and in
their honor and Dan's, I'll contribute to
organizations that fight the disease. My condolences
to the Fogelberg family, and their friends.
When I would hear your name, I would immediately think back to my years in high school when I grew up listening to your music. Today, when I hear your songs, it makes me feel just as I did back then. I had just heard "Same Old Lang Syne" on the radio on Friday, two days before your passing, and had fond memories of those years gone by. You have made it possible to remember those days, so long ago. Thank you for your gift of a more carefree time. You will be greatly missed by all your adoring fans. I am one of those. I'll be saying prayers for your family in this time of sorrow. Thank you for everything you did. You were a gift from God while here on earth. ~

When I heard the news of Dan's passing it really hurt my heart. Jean you have my deepest condolences and you will be in my prayers. May God help heal your heart. I have always loved Dan's music and whenever I hear any of his songs, there will always be a twinge in my heart. I guess God needed Dan for his Christmas choir and someday when God brings us home we will be able to hear him sing again.
God Bless us everyone. ~ Roxie Colvin -

To the Fogelberg immediate and extended family, life is so fleeting. Most people will not be remembered more than a
generation or two after their death. Artists like Dan Fogelberg who brought
so much pleasure and comfort to so many of the 70's generation and more will
not forget him. He will be remembered for his wonderful lyrics and tunes
for decades to come. We who loved and appreciated his music will miss his
genius even more deeply.
A few years ago, I asked my 20 something daughter to listen to the words of
"Same Old Lang Syne." She was moved. Anyone who listens to Fogelberg music
is moved. The world will miss him....
With Condolences ~ Mike Cope - Hilliard, Ohio
Rest in Heaven's embrace my friend. I've grown up with your music and have always sensed a peace within when I heard you sing. You will never be forgotten. ~

To The Spirit of Dan Fogelberg and his family and friends,
I cannot say how much your music meant to me. I saw you a few times in concert and you were amazing. I know that you are still with us in Spirit and that you will always be. Your music touched so many people. You are an amazing soul. I am so sorry for your friends and family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sincerely yours ~ Cynthia, a long time fan of Dan Fogelberg
I became a Dan Fogelberg fan when I picked up my brothers Souvenirs album in 1975. From the first notes of "Part Of the Plan" I was hooked, and have been a fan ever since. I was fortunate enough to have seen him several times in concert, my favorites being the Solo Acoustic tours. Dan, his voice and a guitar or piano, that was magic. I have recently started replacing my stolen CD collection and was looking forward to a tour soon. My thoughts are with his family and friends. The world has lost a rare talented human being. In these days of TMZ and self centered idiot celebrities, I admired Dan for maintaining his privacy and on that rare occasion sharing his gift with us. He will be missed. ~ Cliff Rodgers - Southern California
Dan Fogelberg was an amazing talent in song writing and in his voice. I am
thankful to
have been listening to him since 1975. His songs have marinated my heart and soul.
My regards to his wife and family. ~
Tony
We did not know him as you did but felt he knew us. How might we otherwise explain his uncanny ability to reach into the depths of our joy and pain and express in words and song what we found unutterable? And so we share your loss, and the words of others, not mine, seem the only voice to express it – “He brought us joy; we loved him well. He was not ours; he was not mine.” (Out of Africa) “Heaven and I wept together; its sweet tears were salt with mortal mine.” (Francis Thompson) and of course, his words – “I sing to your spirit where all my dreams dwell - the vision--the freedom, the life lived so well. And I sing in your canyons. And the echoes ring clear. And I wish somehow you may still hear.” What gifts he gave us; what gifts you gave us by sharing him, by helping him pass gracefully. I wish you peace. ~ Jennifer
I listened to The Innocent Age on Saturday for the first time in, oh, six
months. I played "Same Old Lang Syne" on the jukebox at a bar I sometimes
go to on Sunday. I learned of Dan's passing Monday morning. Is it irony,
or something else... ~ T. J. Williams
My thoughts and prayers go out to Dan's family. His music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My parents used to play his songs when I was young and they drove me nuts. The older I got , the more I learned to appreciate his music. He could have left no greater legacy .
Again my thoughts and prayers to all that loved the "leader of the band." ~
Mark Valenti
Peace and sweet dreams Dan. You made this world a better place.
When I recently learned of Dan's passing my heart was at once heavy and saddened. I was introduced to Dan's music by my best friend in 1980. It was a dark time in my life. I had lost my girlfriend and attempted to commit suicide as I was beginning my freshmen year in college. I came home to find consolation in professional treatment and Dan's music. Your music was a tremendous comfort to me as I lay on my bed at home and listened for hours on end. I will never forget that dark time in my life and how you saw me through. You are loved and missed. ~ Mark
Our most heartfelt condolences to Jean and all of Dan's family. When we heard the news of Dan's passing, this Bible verse came to mind. "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith" Second Timothy 4:7. May God's grace and love give you strength and peace in the days to come. We will hold you close in thoughts and prayers. ~ The Kershners - Harpswell, Maine
Dan’s music always made me feel good (even "Leader of the Band" which always
brought a tear to my eye) and I somehow now miss my father even more…
Goodbye to the "Leader of the Band." Godspeed. Thank you ~
Jim DiGiacomo
My most heartfelt condolences to DF's wife Jean and all his family. I
know your time with this extraordinarily talented person was far too
short. His music has always been in my adult life. In 1974 a close
friend of mine was telling me about Dan Fogelberg and she said, "you
have to listen to him, you are going to love it!" I was hooked, and
for 34 years it has been the music to which I most frequently turn. We
have all been so lucky to have him in this world. May his loved ones
receive comfort and may the next world treat him well. ~ LA in Denver,
Colorado
I am so devastated by the loss of one of my heroes. I did not even know he was
sick, and my Mom called to tell me that he had died. I grew up listening to
Captured Angel and everything after that. Mom knew how much his music meant to me
as she had to endure me singing to his music at home before I moved out. I
always thought Dan was so special and right now I can not really put into words
the loss I feel. I loaded up the stereo with his music and am listening now. My
prayers are for the family and for Dan who left us much too soon. Now he can
play without the pain and sickness with our maker. Thank you Dan for all the
music and the wonderful emotions that we shared as we experienced his gift of
song. We will miss you. ~ Jonathan Denton - Maryville Tennessee.
"Same Old Lang Syne" is one of the very few songs that can stop me dead in my tracks. It is equally inspiring as it is depressing. Though set around the holidays, it packs as much punch in the middle of summer as it does in December. Since Fogelberg, no one has ever captured the pain of looking back in time (and the helplessness of never returning) quite like he did with this song. Though I did not know Mr. Fogelberg, only a very special, gifted human being could have penned such a haunting, intelligent masterpiece. With respect and admiration ~ John Kreuscher (Bohemia, New York)
I have loved Dan's music for many years. I fondly remember listening to them
at some very important times in my life and also they have comforted me
through rough times. You will be greatly missed but always remembered.
I only realized Dan was suffering this disease two weeks ago; why I didn't know, I don't know, it doesn't matter. I just tuned into MSNBC, just moments ago to see where Stephen Stills was diagnosed and clicked on the story when it hit me. Dan Fogelberg was an early idol to me and I grieve his passing. I am too shocked to have anything memorable to say.I just will always be in love with that wonderful, soul filled voice. With a mind filled with life and love and beautiful words and images. My hero. Only my best and honest thoughts to his wife and family. Mere words cannot lessen your loss, just take comfort in knowing your family and friends have you firmly in their hearts and minds. Dan Fogelberg will forever be in mine. God bless you all. ~

Jean, there are thousands of prayers being prayed for you & Dan's family tonight. These condolences reflect just how much this wonderful man was deeply loved by his friends and fans. Take comfort in knowing Dan is with God and one day we will see him again. Dan left us a precious gift; his music for us to enjoy. ~ Del Curry
To Dan's family: I am so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you in this sad time. I know many others have expressed this same sentiment but let me add my voice as well. You'll never know how much Dan's music meant to me over the years. Whenever I am sad or depressed, I pop in one of my favorite Dan Fogelberg cds and his voice and songs comfort me. I hope the thoughts and prayers from we, his fans, will bring some measure of comfort to you as well. Thank you for sharing him with us. ~
Ellen, a longtime fan
I was extremely saddened to hear of Dan's passing. His music was very inspiring
to me for many years. I discovered his music in 1972 right after the release of
Home Free and have owned much of his music on vinyl and re-acquired it on CD.
His music was a common thread for my wife and I when we first met and it still
holds a very dear place in both our hearts today.
The world has lost a great artist although his music and legacy will surely live on. ~
Kevin M. Davies
Never was there a more beautiful soul set to music--it lives "ever on." Resquiat
in pacem Dan. ~ Shawn M.
I was very saddened to learn on Monday of Dan's passing. Dan played a vital role
in my music world from the early '70s on. I was fortunate to see him in concert
several times, from the Souvenirs tour to a more recent solo acoustic tour.
Besides enjoying listening to his albums immensely, I learned to play a number
of his songs on guitar. His sensitivity and musical talent soared high above
most artists. My sincere condolences to Jean, Dan's family and friends. ~ Bruce - Wyomissing, PA
Dan saw me, and many others, through hard times with the power of his music. We
also celebrated many good times with the same songs. He was a very deep and
sensitive lyricist who along with Jackson Browne and James Taylor helped a
fumbling and naive boy of the 70's relate to the opposite sex and the new
mysteries of love. I felt as if I knew him and he was a guiding force in my
life. My condolences to him and his family. He will be sorely missed.
As the son of a lucky prostate cancer survivor whose doctor caught the illness
very early and cured it, and as a Dan Fogelberg fan since the age of 14, I am so
very sad to hear about his passing. I pray for his family's strength and
healing in the trying days ahead. One can only guess how wonderful the angels'
voices will sound now that he is in their ranks. This line is from "Part of the Plan", which I remember signing in yearbooks as a goodbye of sorts when I graduated from high school: "All of the answers you seek can be found in the dreams that you dream on the way."
Rest in peace, Dan. And *thank you*. ~
Steve
I am sad to read of his passing.
I can only say thank you for those wonderful memories in high school
listening to his songs.
Peace ~
Paul Czarnecki
Our real self, the soul, is immortal. We may sleep for a little while in that change called death, but we can never be destroyed. We exist, and that existence is eternal. The wave comes to the shore, and then goes back to the shore; it is not lost. It becomes one with the ocean, or returns again in the form of another wave. This body has come, and it will vanish; but the soul essence within it will never cease to exist. Nothing can terminate that eternal consciousness. Paramahansa Yogananda from "Where There is Light". RIP Dan
To Jean, one of the benefits of loving an artist is that even after they
have passed on, you still have the fruits of his labor to visit. Small comfort,
but some. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family. ~ Ken
Dear Jean, my family and I are truly sorry for the loss of Dan. I'm sure,
that for you, it is hard to even think of what is next, but it will come.
Life is never easy, especially with out the one whom you have shared most
of it with. We will never forget Dan, and all the joy he has brought to us
through his words, music, and his wit. Dan's legacy will always live on. Just remember all the good memories he leaves with everyone. Our best wishes
go out to you and your family. ~ Jim and Julie
I was living in Dublin in 1974 when I bought my first copy of Souvenirs. I've had many
more since. Something about that album got to me - I loved it then and adore it still. I
can also retrace times when I was feeling low or scared and would play "Part Of The Plan"
to lift me up - and it always did.
It is therefore with great sadness that I learnt of Dan Fogelberg's death to cancer
earlier this week - another musical hero of our generation passed away. I don't know
them, but I wish his wife and family the best in this difficult time. Rest in Peace you
good man and thanks for the great songs.
Dan Fogelberg has touched me more than any other musician/songwriter I have
listened to in my lifetime. No matter what I have gone through in my life,
there is something written by Dan that expresses exactly how I was feeling.
He has gotten me through many a trial and tribulation through the years, and
I am forever grateful for him. I never knew him personally - but like so
many of his fans that have seen him perform over the years (too many times
to count) and listened to his music - I feel like I have lost a family
member. Dan will forever touch the lives of those who find joy, peace and
solace in his artistry. My heart is so very sad for all of us, especially
his family and friends. ~ Karen Harvey - Colorado Springs, CO
I cannot even begin to express what his music has meant to me throughout my life. It has touched me as no other music ever has. I passed the gift of his music on to my own children and each of us was inspired in our own way. They have the memory of dancing in the rain on the lawn at the PNC in New Jersey. He will truly be missed but his music will forever live on. Deepest sympathy and prayers to the Fogelberg family .~
Debbie - New York
Our condolences to Dan's family. We have been listening to Dan's music for over 20+ years since when we were still in the Philippines. Dan thanks for everything. ~ Georgene Austria - Los Angeles, CA
Dan we love you. We will miss you. ~ Rich and Joanne - Phila, Pa.
My wife and I and both of our daughters were deeply saddened by Dan’s young
departure. My wife and I have been avid fans and lovers of his music since
1972,
and we have taken both of our daughters ages 17 and 21 to Dan’s concerts and
they too
are part of Dan’s next generation of Fogelberg lovers.
I am still in shock. I am a special Ed teacher and the morning I heard the
news I sang a couple of Dan’s songs to my young kindergartners, 1st and 2nd
graders. They were not familiar with the songs but they saw the tears in my
eyes and I told them about Dan and how he has touched my family and friends lives.
He will be sorely missed, and I think we really still are in shock and do
not fully realize the breadth of his contribution to our world and the world of
music. Tears and so many memories.
Love ~ Randy, Pattie, Emily and Elizabeth
I'm so sorry for your loss. I loved Mr. Fogelberg's music. "Leader of the Band" always made me cry and think of my own father who is still living but is 83 now. My best wishes and prayers. My husband has not had an exam and I know that now he will get one. Thoughts and prayers to all your family. ~ Mary Wolf
Dan was a light to me and to so many. I remember playing his first
album over and over again. I remember the blessing of seeing him
perform. He helped us think and more than anything else to feel. Our
prayers are for you Jean and a thankful heart for the legacy that Dan
left the world; a better world because of him. ~ Dave Oury - Wisconsin
His music brings us memories, peace, thoughts and love. It lives on forever as
he does
through his music.
I am so sorry and sad to hear of Dan's passing. "Longer" was my husband and my
song and was played at our wedding.
His is a terrible loss and he died too young but he left a great legacy and his music will always live on.
Sincerely ~
Deb Walz
I will "drink a toast to innocence and time" in honor of a man who knew great music.
Thank you for touching so many....
Dear Jean and family & friends of Dan:
What a tremendous loss for you and for the music community. My prayers are with you all during your time of sorrow, especially during the holidays. Dan's legacy will live on in all of us. He had a way with words and music and will be missed terribly. God bless you all. ~
~Diane M. from San Antonio, TX
Many of your songs have served as great soundtracks for much of my life. Godspeed. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. ~ Sergio E. Gonzalez
I was saddened to hear of Dan's passing. God bless Dan, Jean, and Dan's
family.
I was so, so sorry to hear the news of Dan's passing. It was a shock
because I'm sorry to say that I didn't know that he was ill with this
terrible disease. I can say that his music touched me very deeply. I
cannot listen to "Same Old Lang Syne" without literally sobbing. We have all
been there and experienced these feelings and when that last line is said
and the music switches to "Same Old Lang Syne", it's just brilliant.
My own father was a "man of music" and passed that on to me and my siblings.
When he died several years ago I was tempted to have the song played at his
funeral and always regret that we didn't. I can't listen to that song
without thinking of my dad. Everything he wrote struck some familiar chord
which is why his music was about all of us and touched all of us. I will
miss this "man of music" and send my deep condolences to his wife, Jean and
all of his family. Please know that his music will live in our hearts
always.

What can I say about a man who is a musical genius. When I got the news about the
passing of Dan tears came to my eyes. His music touched my heart deep down inside
every time i listen to any of his beautiful songs. He will be missed by many of
his fans. And to his wife Jean, God Bless you and your family in this time of
grief. My family and I send you our prayers and may God be with you .We are
very sorry for your loss. ~ Tac D. - Williamsburg PA
He was an inspiration to learn guitar. God bless him and his family.
It might seem too late to praise Dan now that he is no longer here to accept
these words of thanks and gratitude, but I believe it is exactly the right time
to express myself.
To Dan's wonderful family, I send you the most sincere and heartfelt sympathies. To my fellow music lovers, I remind you that Dan is only a song away.
Some of the best music ever written because it was about all of us. It was truth. It was heart. It was love.
RIP Dan.You are with us where it counts-inside our hearts. ~
Winston
Thanks for the music and all years of enjoyment yet to come. Your music is timeless....
A battle fought with courage is never lost no matter what the out come may be. Even though you lost your battle Dan, your legacy will continue through
the memories you left and made for all of us that enjoyed your music. I for
one am very glad that in the summer of 1980 someone turned me on to your music and
will continue to listen and enjoy all of it.
God speed my friend. May the Lord keep you near him for he has called another
angel to home. My prayers and thought to Jean and Dan's family. With sympathy ~ Steve R.

Dan, you were truly a gifted musician and songwriter. We will now be blessed with your music to remember you by. A talent like yours only comes along rarely and you will sincerely be missed. The rock band in heaven just added a great talent. I can't wait to get there and hear you once again.
Dan Fogelberg was a wonderful singer and songwriter. He will be missed. I will always remember him for providing me with the thought for a beautiful wedding song. When my daughter and my son in law to be were searching for a wedding song, I suggested "Longer" by Dan. It was immediately embraced by them and all who attended were touched by its words. This particular song will always have life and Dan Fogelberg will live "Longer" along with it. ~

I was so saddened about the loss of an amazing musician and gracious, thoughtful man. Dan's music was woven into my "growing up" years; those memories and his music are forever linked in my heart and soul. There was a huge sense of pride in knowing he was a son of the great Midwest. He will be deeply, sadly missed. ~
Cheri - Brown Deer, WI
News of Dan's passing came as quite a shock to me because his songs are dear to my heart. His music completes the human experience so completely that I suddenly find myself crying, missing someone or just glad to be alive. I have prostate cancer;just finished 42 radiation treatments at the V.A. hospital in Pittsburgh. I hope everyone takes Dan's advice about check-ups; especially for men over 50. I'm listening to The Essential Dan Fogelberg cd right now (for the third time today). Thanks Dan for the music, you will live forever in all our hearts. Sincerely ~ Thom Ewen
Monday, an absolutely beautiful day here in Maine following a most blustery Sunday, has
just become one of the saddest days in my life for I have just heard the news of Dan's
passing. Thank you, Dan's mother and heaven's resident who we know as "The Leader of the
Band," for the love you shared gifted my life and many others with your son's beautiful
music. Thank you, Jean, for your care and love. Your pictures in the photo gallery are
reflective of the love between you and Dan for he permits you to truly capture the
essence of Dan Fogelberg that we hear and relate to in his music. My only comfort through
the deep sense of loss is his music. How fortunate we are. We will be able to hear and
appreciate the genius of Dan Fogelberg until we take the same journey. ~ Mary - Maine
"The lines of life are never long when seen from end to end". Dan, every
time I hear that line it feels like you threw a dart and hit the bull's eye.
You were never afraid to touch a feeling right in the center were you? Time
and again your lyrics touched the depths of my heart in a way no other
songwriter has ever done. The first time I heard "Souvenirs", the sweet
guitar at the beginning pulled me in and tears came to my eyes when you sang
those last 4 lines. "Phoenix" became my personal mantra after a difficult
time in my early 20s and what an AMAZING inspirational warm up song for
running during college. I even bonded with my future husband over our
mutual love of your music."you like Dan Fogelberg, so do I - let's get
married and have the band play 'Longer' as our first dance." Listen to the
guitar lick at the end of James Blunt's "Wisemen"..I hear you all over
that. A master musician, an eloquent poet, a man whose life's mission
touched millions you never knew. What a wonderful work of art, soul, and
spirit you leave to this world to enjoy forever more - WOW! How many people
do that in a life? Everything you put out there was real, true, and
timeless. What a truly wonderful life, Dan - you absolutely mattered. Thank
you for it all. I love you dearly. Rest in Peace. ~ Marybeth Matthews
Emerson - Boulder, Colorado
Jean, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Dan's legacy will live on
through his music and through all those he has touched with such heart full lyrics,
his inspirational music and his contagious smile. His music helped me grow
over the past 30 years. It comforted me when I was sad, made me smile and
inspired me to be the artist I am today. Thank you Dan. May you continue to play
your music in the heavens, we will all feel it in our hearts. God bless ~
Bernadette
My deepest sympathy to Dan's family. I was incredibly touched by Dan's music in the 70's, the words to describe that are just too hard to write but it saddens me that Dan has lost his battle. May he rest in peace. Thank you for your music Dan, you have no idea what it meant to me. ~ Lori
God put Dan on earth for all of us to enjoy. He has now taken him home.
Thank you for sharing your gift.
So sad and shocked to hear of Dan’s passing. I had always felt his music
took me to his heart. It surrounded my soul while listening. He will be
missed but his music will always stay within the fans hearts and soul. ~ Harriet
I cannot begin to imagine the loss of Dan will have on his family. I have
enjoyed
his wonderful music since I was 16 and I am now 50. My daughter has enjoyed
Dan's music as well and she brought one of Dan's CD to Yale New Haven Medical Center last year when I fell off the house and was critically injured. His words and his music just made me feel that all would be well soon. And it is. I think Dan is correct that you need to be tested on a regular schedule to avert the suffering he must have gone through. I will make the appointment.
I wish you God's speed and eternal peace. You have truly touched my inner self
and I will think of you fondly every time I hear your music. The Leader of the Band"
may have left but his legacy will live on forever.
I wish Jean and Dan's family peace. ~

Fifty-six is too young to die. Dan's talent can never be replaced. I will always love his music. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Dan, the battle is over, no more suffering, no more pain. Your beautiful
music was and still is such an inspiration to me. Now you can make
that beautiful music in heaven. Jean - my thoughts and prayers are with
you. ~ Bonnie - Maryland Heights, MO
My thoughts and prayers to the family. A wonderful voice has been silenced.
~ Doug
I have been too stunned until today to formulate any words. For those of us in Maine, Dan's "The Reach" will forever be the quintessential song of rocky, fog-shrouded coastlines, and the lobstering trade. But his music for me goes way back to his early days, when I would sometimes only have his cassettes in my car. Dan was the soundtrack for many long road trips across the U.S and Canada to various military assignments. So gifted and yet so humble a man. I'll close with lyrics from another great singer taken from us way too young, John Denver: "Though the singer is silent, there is still the truth of the song" (From "On the Wings of a Dream, John's tribute to his father) ~
Mark - South Portland, Maine
Dear Jean and the rest of Dan's family, like many others, the news of Dan's passing
created such a feeling of sadness and grief. My feeling of sadness can't come close to
yours but you should know Dan's music touched many of our lives in many ways. He helped
lighten my stress load while studying Nursing courses in college. When the world got to
be too much, I would play his music. "Longer" was played at my wedding. My husband and I saw
him in concert at Merriweather Post in Maryland at least three times. I also tried to
follow the course of his illness via the web when he was diagnosis with prostate cancer.
I've helped many a patient leave this world in comfort, in dignity. I'm glad he spent his
last earthly moments in his home surrounded by family. May you all find inner peace with
his death. He will be sorely missed...Respectfully ~ Debbie McClain - Willow Street, PA
Dan will live on in the hearts and souls of thousands.
He was a truly gifted artist who traversed his way through life with music
and melodies that will always be a part of so many of us. It is with deep
sadness that we say good night until we meet again.
May god bless Dan, Jean, and all of us in these trying times.
The legacy left to us will endure for years to come.
Sweet Jean, my heart breaks with you. Dan died on my birthday; and Beethoven's birthday. My own husband, a wonderful musician in his own right, was taken four years ago by colon cancer at the age of 51. He was always supposed to play a song of Dan's on saxophone at my funeral but he went home first.
I have been blessed my whole life by Dan's music, all of it, but Souvenirs is deep in my soul. We took our nine year old son (now 26) to see Dan here in Indianapolis, his first concert.
Be good to yourself, Jean, and know that you are in my prayers. Dan is now rocking out with my husband and all the angels in heaven. Blessings and love to you.
I was so sorry to hear of Dan Fogelberg's passing, I did not realize he had been
fighting this illness, and it came as quite a shock. Dan's music brings back
memories of very good times in my life, the late 70's, when I was young and the
living was easy. I will always be grateful to Mr. Fogelberg for the wonderful music and talent he gave to us.
To Dan Fogelberg,
Thank you for the great music. ~ Robert Santos - Philippines
To Jean and to Dan's family:
This man brought such magic into my life at a young age, and I never forgot
that. His albums still are on my shelf, beloved for their songs of love
and loss and life. I will always cherish the feelings and memories that
these songs evoke. My deepest sympathies to you. ~
Patty Soriano -

I just wanted to express my deepest sympathy to Dan's family during this untimely loss. Many many times in my life, Dan's beautiful music carried me through some very tough times and helped bring me back from the edge. During the times when life was running smoothly, his haunting melodies came and lifted me up like no other musician could. I never put much importance on any celebrity, but I feel like I lost a dear friend. Though he's gone, he will never be forgotten, as his music will carry out his dreams, and be a positive influence to generations who need just that. My prayers to his family. ~ Jerry
Dan was a true inspiration through his music & lyrics. I only wish I had the pleasure of
knowing him. In life, sometimes we know that God has given us a true gift, and that gift
was Dan Fogelberg. And life will seem less colorful & bright without him, and his music.
Thank you Dan, for great the listening pleasure trough the years. You will be truly
missed. May God bless you and your family. ~ Joe
Dear Jean, I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. Dan touched so many lives with music and wit. I'm 55 yrs old & have everything he's done, everyone who ever listened to his music is so blessed. God speed Dan. God bless you Jean. Sincerely ~ Joy Hoover
Dan, my dad found one of your albums when he was in the army in Germany.
He thought you looked like a "cool dude" on the cover and bought it
never hearing your music before. From that day forward you were his
favorite musician of all time. He has seen you in concert many times
and has all your records, tapes, and CD's. He even has you on iTunes. Because of this love for your music, you were also the first
artist I heard when I was a baby. And when I was homesick in college it
was your music I needed to play to bring me close to my family. To me,
you are a part of our family, and though we never met, you are a
Glosenger. You will be greatly missed but will live on through your
music and for that, I am eternally grateful. Thank you. ~ Sarah
Glosenger - Seattle, WA
My heart goes out to Dan's family and Jean. May you be warmed by the love of those who
continue to be touched by the exquisite artistry of his life and music.
I am grateful for your music, Dan and will miss your sharing it with us in person. "I sing
to your spirit, where all my dreams dwell, the vision, the freedom, the life lived so
well, and I sing in your canyons and the echoes ring clear, and I wish somehow you may
still hear." Your song is in my soul and will be "Ever On."
Forever grateful for you, Dan. ~Nan
I don't know what to say. Words can't begin to
express the loss that is felt. His music is such a
refreshing breeze of honesty and spirituality. My
deepest condolences to his family and close friends.
We were lucky enough to have seen him perform once.
It was a magic evening. The songs will remain a part
of our lives for as long as we live. ~ Kim/Becky - Mesa,Az.
Oh my Dan,
what a gift you have left for us and future generations. Prayers and our sympathy to your family and friends.
Dan Fogelberg 1951-2007. That little dash represents all of the lives that
you touched during your time on earth. You left the world a better place
because you were here. Thank you for sharing with all of us. ~ Kathy Kempen -

We had the privilege of seeing Dan in concert a few times. Probably the most memorable was at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas about 10 or more years ago. Just him and his guitar asking for our suggestions. SO COOL!!! So Dan. Laid back. It blew our minds knowing he cared about what we wanted to hear him play. He could have been playing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and the crowd would have gone wild. We loved him and whatever he played was so right with us. We'll miss his presence, but his music will long outlive all of us. God Bless his family and friends who knew him so dearly. They are blessed to have known the real musician, Dan Fogelberg. Thanks for sharing this with us.~ Lonnie& Kathy Stilwell
For the last 30 years, Dan’s music has been the bookmarks of my life. It’s
hard to grasp - no more bookmarks.
I had a dream on Sunday night, and in it I was watching a hawk. I told the
hawk that I just wanted to see him, and wondered where he was. He turned,
and faced me with the face of a man and said “I’m not there anymore, I’m
sleeping over there, in the woods and the rocks”.
I hadn't heard the news.
My condolences are for all of us left behind.
Soar on, Dan…I will never forget you ~
Kurt
I was very sad to her that Dan had passed. I have always wanted to see him
in concert but never got a chance to. Your music will be missed. May God
bless your family and may you rest in peace. ~ Bill, a fan for life.
I am so sad at the loss of one of my favorite songwriters. Dan wrote the soundtrack to
my life for several years, and I enjoyed playing guitar and singing harmonies along with
his records. Today I am having my own private memorial - playing the six albums I own on
my trusty record player. I haven't played them for so long, but still know every word
and harmony. They are imprinted on my soul. Thanks, Dan for sharing your gift with the
world and sharing your music with us - affecting far more people than you will ever know. You are gone way too soon. My heartfelt condolences to Jean and all of Dan's family
members. Yes, it's "Part of the Plan", and perhaps one day we'll all understand. ~ Karin

To God, Thank You for sharing the soul of this man Dan Fogelberg with us on this earth. Only you know how many lives his life and music has touched. We know there is a God that loves us when the music of these angels can fill our hearts, and help us to find our compassion. This is a great gift, and we are grateful. Thank you merciful God, for music and for this great man whom you inspired with such a gift.To Dan's family, you were blessed to have such a soul in your midst. My prayers go out to all of us who loved Dan Fogelberg. He knew how to share his heart and soul through his music. His albums got me through a lot of tough times; especially the heartbreaks. Somehow his music gave me enough strength, courage and hope to keep going. For that I thank you, Dan Fogelberg. See ya on the other side. ~ Karen Frump Hennigar
Dan I can't tell you how much your music touched my life especially as a young man. Every time I hear your songs they bring back those memories I thought were buried deep in my mind. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your musical and spiritual inspiration. My prayers are with you and your family during these trying times. The world truly has lost the one and only "Leader of the Band." ~ John A.
What could I possibly put into words to describe what Dan's
music has meant to me. He's probably the most multi-talented musician I ever had the privilege to see live. His vast array of
touching melodies will play over and over in my head for the
rest of my days. What an incredible loss. His music and legacy
will live on and on in the hearts of his fans the world over. I wish
I could see him perform on his little wooden chair just one more
time. What a sad day. We'll miss you Dan. ~ J. D. Wolf
Dan's music helped shape me as a person. I like knowing he was always somewhere in the world and you know what, he still is. ~
Joyce Sippel - Kingsville, MD
May you all find comfort in the love and support of family, friends, and God. I am clearly not alone in sending my heartfelt thoughts and prayers to all of you who feel the emptiness that Dan left behind. He lives forever in his music and in spirit.
Sincerely ~
Susie Cooper
Dan, may you now rejoice in your reunion with "The Leader Of The Band" and thank you for all the beautiful memories you have left here on earth and in our hearts
He was to me a reminder of who I am.
His songs deeply resonated with my own feelings about love, nature, and
beauty. Whenever I feel bad about myself or lonely in this world, I need
only listen to his songs to know that there was at least one other kindred
soul out there. So many pop stars were just posing with guitars and hustling
trendy stuff, but Dan was an innovator and a true craftsman. His style
became the backbone and standard of what grew into my large music
collection. Other artists have come and gone out of favor, but Dan was
always #1 to me. When I was a young teen I was bombarded with songs
promoting shallow sex and excessive drug use; Dan sang about caring
relationships and simple, sentimental themes. He gave me so much hope.
Fans, we are grieving the loss of a best friend, even though he never knew
us personally. But we are not left alone, we have each other, millions of
kindred souls, all moved by his art.
To Dan’s family and personal friends I offer my condolences and thanks for
your part on his special life.
Sincerely ~
Dan Reppert
Dan,
I can't express how sad I was about the news. You have been an inspiration for my music since years and I will keep you always in my mind.
Hopefully you´ve found a place without any pain. ~ Kurt
I am so sorry this has happened to one of the legends. I am a courier for a series of banks and spend probably six hours a day driving. My Dan Fogelberg's Greatest Hits CD is played at least once a week. We will miss this giant talent. Thank you God, for giving to us Dan Fogelberg. He will always be remembered and treasured. ~ Jerry Bowman
My deepest condolences to Dan's family and friends. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
When I first heard Dan had prostate cancer, I was very sad. When I heard he died this morning, I cried. I love his music. His song"Longer" was a hit in 1980 when my husband Jeff and I were married. I carry this song in my heart to this day. I will always cherish Dan's music and his legend. ~
Pennie - Champlin, MN
I am so saddened and heartbroken to hear that Dan lost his battle with cancer.
The world has lost a great talent that has left us way too soon. But cancer cannot take away all of the great songs Dan gave us - and his voice was like no other. I used a line from one of Dan's songs on my wedding invitation. Thank you Dan for all of the wonderful words and music you gave to us - they will live on forever. You will be missed. My sincere sympathy to Dan's wife and family. ~ Janet L. (New Jersey) "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die."
I just wanted to say I love Dan's music. I'm so sorry that he is gone.
His music was inspiration to me. ~ Sandee
My version of God's country is Vermont and Dan's music always reminded me of
that. Whenever I wanted to think about Vermont I'd put Dan Fogelberg on and
escape into the soaring "Nether Lands". Hearing the radio stations play "Same
Old Lang Syne" so often at this time of year makes it all especially sad. I am
thankful I got to see him perform once in Orlando, FL when he played my
favorite "There's a place in the world for a Gambler" and it was just as good as
the live version on CD - it was an experience to be a part of that chorus. My
thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest in peace, Dan. ~ Barb Froman -
York, PA.
My deepest sympathies go out to Jean Fogelberg and the rest of the family. I
have enjoyed and been touched by Dan Fogelberg's music for the past 30 years. I can remember hearing the "Leader of the Band" from my grade school days. I would
be remised not to mention this time of year, "Same Old Lang Syne" being one of
my all-time holiday favorites. To the Fogelberg family: Thank you for
sharing his musical genius, and masterful storytelling, on behalf of millions of
Dan Fogelberg fans, we miss him too...
Thank you, Dan. Your music and distinctive style and talent touched my life. "Longer" was my wedding dance song. You will never be forgotten. So sorry
you left us too soon. God bless Jean. ~
Steve - New Jersey.
I was Dan's biggest fan. As a singer and songwriter, I drew so
much
inspiration, lyrically and melodically, from his music. I felt the whole
planet sigh at the news of his passing. He was amazing and he left us
with such rich treasures in his songs that I will continue to enjoy for
the rest of my life. I hope he knew how special his gift was and how
many people he touched with that gift. I really hope he drew peace and
satisfaction from that. I pray God's comfort over his loved ones. ~ Toni Becker
To the loved ones of Dan Fogelberg,
The world is a lesser place with the loss of Mr. Fogelberg. His music touched a lot of us for a lot of different reasons. I share in your mourning and I celebrate his life with you. God speed, Dan Fogelberg. Heaven's gain is our loss. ~
Joni Fanciullo -
Griswold, Iowa
I was very sad to hear of Dan's passing. It is like losing a friend. His music lives on as well as his legacy. Dan, you will be greatly missed. With sincere thoughts ~ Mark George
Dan touched so many hearts and filled so many souls. May we forever feel
his presence, and meet again.
Please know that your loss is felt by many.
Dear Jean, we that loved Dan and his music will miss him greatly.
May his spirit live long in us all.
Jean, may God give you all the strength you need. ~
Tony and Laura (fans forever)
Vale Dan. So much like love, many of your songs stopped my heart the first time I heard them and they became markers in my life. You were as deft with lyric as you were incisive and prescient about communicating the environmental decay that engulfs us today. Your slant on love and heartbreak could only have come from somebody who knew what it was to be loved, and to love. These are devastatingly sad times for your family but they can seek solace in your music that will live on forever. ~
Steve Collins -

My childhood was filled with fond memories of Dan Fogelberg's music. His
music personified Colorado as much as the snow capped peaks. Colorado has
lost a mighty peak and an advocate of a much simpler life. A life his music
so gently conveyed. ~
Tim - Colorado
"I sing to your spirit where all my dreams dwell.
The vision, the freedom, the life lived so well.
And I sing in your canyons and the echoes ring clear, and I wish somehow you may still hear."
Listening to your words for days now, Dan, such beautiful poetry with
gorgeous notes wrapped around it. My heart is heavy; I feel a loss as if I knew
you personally. Thank you for blessing us with the gift of your talent, and
most especially, sharing your heart and soul with so many. You have been and
will be missed always.
To Jean, my deepest sympathy and my hope that you will find peace and joy in
the legacy your husband has left the world.
With love ~

I am deeply saddened to hear the news. Mr. Fogelberg's music, lyrics and
personal warmth significantly touched my life in a very special way. Perhaps his
powerful affect on my life (and others I'm certain) can best be conveyed in
the following poem: The tide recedes but leaves behind bright seashells on the sand. The sun goes down but gentle warmth still lingers on the land. The music stops yet it echoes on in sweet refrains. For every joy that passes something beautiful remains...
Thank you Mr. Fogelberg for making my journey here a more memorable and
enjoyable one.
God Bless ~
James Makowski
In 1974, a radio station in my hometown of Indianapolis featured a new album every week and played it in its entirety. They played Souvenirs and I have been a fan of Dan's music ever since. He will always have a special place in my heart - his music touched me in a way no other artist ever has. My prayers are with his family. ~Kathy Coolman -
Austin, TX
Wow, I really can hardly express the pain I feel at the passing of Dan. I was out on my mail route yesterday when his death was announced on the radio and I just had to pull over to the side of the road. It was as if I had lost a close personal friend, which in some sense I did. I have been a fan since 1973 and have had the honor of seeing Dan Fogelberg in concert several times. Any time he came within a 200 mile radius of my town I had to be there. He will be extremely missed, but his legacy will last forever. To his wife and family I offer my sincere condolences.
When I first heard of Dan's condition a couple of years ago I wrote with the deepest of hopes that he would beat the disease. His passing is very sad news. As someone who grew up with Dan's music, as well as Crosby, Stills (also recently diagnosed with Prostate Cancer), Nash, the Eagles, and so many others, it is an awakening to realize the era is coming to a close. But what a incredibly creative, mind-opening, energetic era it was. And much of Dan's music lead the way. A truer musical visionary I don't think there was.
Dan Fogelberg helped me through the angst of my parents divorce, going off
to college and a long distance relationship.
His music moved me to see him live at the Berkeley Amphitheater in 1977
(78?). Later in life I fell in love with my wife of 22 years - a Fogelberg
fan.
We were fortunate to see Dan play solo at the Sokol Blosser Winery in
Oregon. His gift to my generation will be missed but the music will live
on in our hearts. ~
Shepard Tucker
May God bless you in Heaven as you have blessed us all here on earth, Dan.
To your family and friends and your many many fans, your music has touched us
all. You taught us that a warm, loving and simple approach is the only way.
We have the spirit and legacy of your music to live by. Thank you, Dan. ~ Ian Butt - England
I don't have any adequate or comforting words to add. However, I am deeply
saddened that Dan lost his brave battle. My thoughts and prayers from the
deepest part of my heart where Dan's music lived go out to Dan's family and
friends. The holidays have lost much of their joy. ~
Terri Williams -
Florida
It's so very sad to think that Dan and his talent are no longer in this
world. To Jean, I offer my heartfelt condolences. I hope that you can
draw comfort from all of those offering kind, compassionate words. I am
so glad that Dan had you in his life. And to Dan, "I sing to your
spirit...the life lived so well...and I wish somehow...you may still
hear." "Ever on."
Dan Fogelberg was in my mind the greatest musical artist of my lifetime. "Leader of the Band" is by far the best song that I have personally had the pleasure of listening to. Dan Fogelberg will be missed by anyone who ever took the time to listen to the lyrics of his songs. He was a giant in the music industry.
